Blinkende Lygter (Flickering Lights) is a 2000 Danish black comedy following four small-time criminals who steal from a gangster boss and go into hiding in the countryside, where they realise they could stay and start a new life. Mads plays Arne, one of the four criminals, who is pretty deranged.

De grønne slagtere (The Green Butchers) is a 2003 Danish black comedy about two butchers who set up their own shop... which eventually (accidentally) involves cannibalism. Mads plays Svend, one of the butchers who is slightly unhinged.

Adams Æbler (Adam's Apples) is a 2005 Danish black comedy following paroled gang leader Adam who must undertake a rehabilitation program headed by the priest Ivan. Mads plays Ivan, who has his own challenges that has him ignoring reality.

Mænd og Høns (Men & Chicken) is a 2015 Danish black comedy about two brothers who go in search of their biological father, only to find the most bizarre of secrets. Mads plays Elias, one of the brothers, he is an insecure, rude, chronic masturbator who makes a startling discovery about his parentage.

Summary:

Apparently the images of Ivan in various compromising positions aren't leaving Adam's mind anytime soon. During the journey of buying their new tree, the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Ivan tries to solve the problem by talking non-stop, until Adam finds a way to shut him up.

This takes place after Adam and Ivan shares that apple cake/pie. Because I wasn't satisfied that the movie stopped at these two stealing glances at each other.

Adam's Apples and Riders of Justice are hilarious in that very dark Scandinavian humour way. (Men and Chicken I'll admit just grosses me out, and not much does that to me!)

He's absolutely brilliant in The Hunt/Jagten of course, if you want to cry rather than laugh. I enjoyed Another Round, glad I watched it, probably won't go back to it.

It's not just Danish films either. I really enjoyed The Door, a low budget German drama with a sci-fi twist. It doesn't have great reviews, but I thought it was an interesting premise that twisted into more and more convoluted knots.

More people need to watch Mads Mikkelsen's Danish films.

I'm an avid film enthusiast and also very picky about the films I watch. Then hannibal happened and the rest is history...( now you'd catch me watching Ads on YouTube cause it has Mads's shadow in it lol. Karma)

Once I fell in love with Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy I decided to watch most of their existing individual projects and I started of with Mads and HOLY SHIT!?!

Now I've always known that Mads Mikkelsen is a tremendously good actor but what I didn't expect is to fall in love with Danish films :").

I've absolutely loved:

- Another Round. (I'VE NEVER SEEN A MORE BEAUTIFUL ENDING SEQUENCE OF A MOVIE. I Can't-)

-The promised land. (IT'S REALLY GOOD)

- Adam's Apple. (Unexpectedly beautiful. Personal fav)

-Flickering Lights. (Heartwarming watch)

-Men and Chicken. (ELIAS IS A BABY)

-Riders of Justice (Heartwarming watch + DADDY MADS DADDY MADS)

So far and I'm planning on watching ALL of his films eventually! He's such a versatile actor 👏! HIS DANISH FILMS DESERVE MORE RECOGNITION Y'ALL!
