You know the funniest thing about SK8 the Infinity or whatever? Langa and Reki, simply do not care. They don't give a shit. The whole series, ADAM is making ominous biblical lusty threats towards Langa and Langa is NEVER paying attention, Reki is too busy having a mental crisis/coming of age moment to pay attention to the guy that literally beats the shit out of him, but at no point are they like 'maybe we are being treated in an odd way' or 'maybe we should find out more about Adam' because they don't give a shit.

They never approach Joe and Cherry like 'we need to know the TRUTH about Adam' because they're too busy dapping each other up in an abandoned skate park. Reki gets hit by a car by someone connected to Adam and when Snake goes projecting all his issues he's like 'okay whatever, unrelatable'. Langa brings up 'I wonder why Adam skates' ONE TIME, and they're like 'it's probably because he enjoys it, no other possible reason'. They don't care about his shady past with Cherry and Joe. They don't care that he's a politician. They simply have two priorities and it's each other and skating.

It's so funny to me that they're THIS apathetic to the main antagonist. Himbo's wish they could be this dumb.

I just finished Sk8 the Infinity

first off "queer subtext" my ass, it is front and center you can't NOT see it.

second, oh my god the theme of love and having a passion for something is done in a way that scratches my brain in the best way. The three main relationships, Reki and Langa, Joe and Cherry, Tadashi and Adam, whether you think they are gay or not they totally are all highlight this dynamic of loving skating versus getting lost in the competition.

Reki and Langa are the clearest example of this. Reki loves skating, he may not be the best at it but he truly loves it. He understands the tricks and the skills, he knows it so well that he can make boards specifically to suit nuanced skills like Langa's because he loves it. He has the passion and the spirit for it which is the central thing he learns during his character arc in the show. But even outside his arc, Reki embodies the spirit of skating, that love of skating. That's what makes his race with Adam so important and that's present in why Langa feels the way he does when he's skating with Reki other than being gay. Langa falls in love with skating and Reki but then he starts to get lost in the competition of it all. Once he races with Adam (who is the antithesis of Reki's skating spirit), his love for skating is poisoned by Adam's "love" of skating. He starts focusing on skills, getting better, reaching Adam's level, he starts losing the spirit of skating. He loses Reki. Once Langa realizes what he's missing, he begins seeking it out again, looking for Reki. But Reki hasn't come back yet, the fun of skating is dead still until Reki has his own realization. Something that is brought back in part by the two other "Reki's" of these relationships: Joe and Tadashi.

Joe and Cherry's is the one that is in the background the most, but it's clear they're meant to parallel Reki and Langa's relationship. While the dynamic is not as extreme as the other two relationships it is still present. Joe loves skating, even if he wasn't the best at skating he'd still be doing it. That is made clear in his conversation with Reki when he gets him to come see Langa at the tournament. He understands that. His race against Adam isn't about proving his skill, he wants to beat Adam because he hates what Adam has become and what Adam is embodying. He wants to punch him in the face. Cherry however does want to prove his skill to Adam. He wants to beat Adam because he's better than him. In a sense, Adam's "love" tainted his enjoyment of skating too. Hence the AI board, the board giving him everything down to the millisecond, to the decimal so he could get the best time possible. I honestly believe part of Joe's worry during Cherry and Adam's race is because he knows Cherry is going to get lost in trying to surpass Adam and forget the fun of skating. Then Cherry gets slammed in the face quite literally by this, he's forced to face what's being going on through this injury. We don't see the resolution of this since it's regulated to the background, but it's still clear these two are meant to parallel Reki and Langa's dynamic towards skating. Also there's the whole thing where Adam is like Cherry's ex and Joe wants to fight the ex that hurt Cherry yadda yadda yes I ship Matchablossom what's new.

Tadashi and Adam are the most extreme of this dynamic going in a negative direction. Adam as I stated is the antithesis to the spirit of skating. He's completely forgotten what it meant to skate and is now tainting every other skater around him with this "love" he has. He's so lost in this darkness that it's seeping into the other skaters like Langa. All that matters is being the best, to crush everyone else below his level so he's completely alone. He's ruining skating for everyone else. Tadashi is the spirit of skating for him. Tadashi is the one that introduced him to skating and led him to fall in love with it as a comfort and an escape from the horrible environment he was being raised in. Skating with Tadashi was his escape. Tadashi was a comfort. But then Adam is found out by his father and Tadashi makes a mistake, but not the one he believes for most of the show. Instead of leading Adam back to the fun of skating, he lets Adam trample it. Rid of it. Put it completely in the background because he blames himself for what happened to Adam that day. And Adam doesn't rid of Tadashi because skating is still a comfort to him, though twisted and abused. He refuses to let it go. To let him go. Tadashi then tries to completely take away skating from Adam and then tries to get Reki to abandon it too. However, Tadashi's broken spirit only fuels Reki's back to life. Then, as he watches the race, Tadashi realizes where he went wrong with Adam. What the true love for skating was, not what Adam thinks it is.

This spirit of skating versus Adam is why Reki's race, Tadashi's presence in the tournament, and why Langa's race are so central. Tadashi including himself in the tournament is Adam being forced to see the dead spirit of skating that he's forgetting and it pisses him off. Reki's race is him directly being pitted against the living embodiment of that spirit of skating and while he does win the race, he still gets his ass beat. He's not stronger than it. Then his race with Langa is where he finally returns to it. Langa is like Adam, but he's fully back to the spirit of skating. He's had his character arc and now Langa helps Adam return to it as someone who experienced to a certain level what Adam is experiencing. Then Langa wins the race and the spirit of skating, the true love of skating, defeats Adam's "love." And Adam leaves the race changed, he remembers the real love of skating, he returns from that darkness he was in. The Adam of their childhood begins to return to Tadashi.

This main conflict in the show that's present in these three relationships is presented so brilliantly and it's what makes Sk8 the Infinity not just another sports anime with some possible queer subtext or baiting. It reminds me of Yuri on Ice and how the relationship to ice skating is reflected in Yuri and Victor's relationship, a show that I absolutely adore (and yes I wept profusely over it when the announcement came out). I desperately hope that Sk8 the Infinity does not receive the same fate because this show has something great that I want to see continued, it's almost a spiritual successor to Yuri on Ice to me.

Now I need the studio to let them lean into the very very very gay tones of these relationships like Yuri on Ice because holy shit all three of them have it. I thought Reki and Langa were going to kiss in the back of that van, Cherry and Joe kept acting like a couple and the english dub only emphasized that, and then that last scene with Adam and Tadashi hello????

I cosplayed Adam today and got to meet David Wald, who was very sweet but just fucking unhinged. He was part of a Sk8 the Infinity panel with Reki, Langa, Joe, and Cherry’s voice actors as well and boy you can tell why he got casted as Adam. Anyway I also bought a print from him and told him he can write whatever quote he likes. This was his choice.

If so, then can I please request you to write about politician Ainosuke x female reader (reader is a foreigner living in Japan and doesn’t know much about skateboarding)? They met somehow and he liked her and asked her out. Later they became a couple. She learned more about him like him being Adam doing skateboarding. She likes him just the way he is. When he decides to marry her his aunties didn’t approve it. But he went against it and married her.

Shindo had met you when you first moved to Japan, you were still trying to find your way around and make sense of all of the new social behaviours. You were different from anything else that had faced. You didn’t know him, you didn’t judge him and you didn’t expect anything of him, that was what made him take an interest in you and the time that you spent together made him fall for you.

Dating was easy for the both of you, especially after you officially moved to Japan. His aunts never liked you but he didn’t care about what they thought that was even clearer when he asked you to move in with him. What he hadn’t thought about was SK8 and having to hide that from you. You were more observant than most, you noticed when he was a little tired than usual, you always asked to make sure that he was okay and even said that you had heard him moving around at night.

Tonight was a night that he had snuck off to SK8, however tonight you woke up. It was only to go to the toilet but Shindo wasn’t there, you didn’t think much of it at first instead thinking that he must have been in the toilet himself, that is for the first 5 minutes. Eventually you got up and went to the toilet falling asleep again before he came back to bed.

The next morning you woke up to your alarm, finding that Shindo was again in bed next to you “Your back.” You mumbled. “Back?” He asked with a frown grip tightening around you. “You weren’t here last night when I woke up to go to the toilet.” You explained briefly snuggling into his chest. “Mmm, I was in my office, I remembered something that needed doing for this morning.” He explained. “I hoped that you wouldn’t have noticed that I was gone.” “Oh well if I didn’t need to pee I wouldn’t have.” You smiled softly. “Why didn’t you just do it in the morning? All we do is lay around until you have to leave for work.” “Yes and I enjoy the time that we spend together. I will not let my work ruin that.” He answered. “It wouldn’t ruin it, you don’t do it every morning I wouldn’t have been angry. I’d much prefer that you get your sleep.” You gently traced patterns over his chest. “I’ll keep that in mind next time.” Shindo nodded.

Over the next couple of days you woke up now probably because you were checking but every night he was missing, you started to think that what he had told you wasn’t true and before long you found yourself trekking to his office to check if he was in there. He wasn’t… That night you stayed up in the kitchen. You mind raced with all the things that he could be doing, the things that he could be hiding. Your eyes drew to the door as it opened revealing Shindo and Tadashi walking into the house. There was a skateboard clutched in his hand which you watched him stow away in the cupboard before he turned towards the kitchen and noticed you at the table. “(Y/N)? What are you doing?” He asked. “Waiting for you to finish your work.” You answered, Tadashi took that as his que to leave, giving Shindo two taps and a look before leaving the house. “(Y/N)-” “I need you to be honest with me.” You cut him off and he nodded waiting for you to talk. “Are you bored?” “Bored? Of what?” He asked, stepping forward. “What do you think?” You shot a question back at him without a second. “You think I’m sneaking out because I’m bored of you?” He asked “where would I be going?” “I don’t know, Shindo you tell me, you're going there!” You argued. “I… I’m not bored of you, it’s just not something that I like to speak about.” He answered. “My father and my aunts never liked this side of me.” “And you think that I will be the same?” You shook your head “I’m nothing like your father or your aunts, I respect that you have interests the same way that you respect mine. I love you for who you are, but you still hide things from me” You explained. “(Y/N) I-” “It’s fine Shindo I’m tired, I’ll see you in the morning.” You stood from where you were sitting, putting your cup in the sink, as you turned Shindo caged you to the counter. “No, I won’t let you walk away from me like that.” his hands lifted to cup your cheeks. “Like what?” You asked. “Defeated.” He leaned down brushing his nose against yours as one of his hands fell to your waist and pulled you closer. “I was only hiding it from you because I didn’t want to disappoint you the way that I had disappointed everyone else… I should have told you before I showed you, I thought that I could have both without them ever having to meet, I was wrong.” “Shin-” “The secret that I have been hiding is my secret skateboarding club.” He explained. “Secret skateboarding… What?” You asked, he chuckled as pulled his phone out tapping away before turning it to show you someone you could easily tell was your Shindo dressed as a matador on a skateboard. “This is what you were hiding?” “It is.” He nodded. “Why would I be disappointed in this?” You asked “you look like you're having fun, I wish I was there to see it.” “Next time.” He promised “there’s one last secret that I want to share with you.” “Mmm?” You hummed.

He led you to his office, turning on the light as he walked around his desk to sit in the chair, pulling you to straddle his lap before reaching around to grab something from one of the draws. Leaning back with a velvet black box in hand, tears welled up in your eyes as you looked at it. “You are the most important person in my life, I need you to know that and with this last question all my secrets are bare to you, so will you marry me?” He asked, opening the box to reveal a beautiful ring. “What about your aunts? They won’t want this.” You frowned and you looked at him waiting for him to speak. “I don’t care what any of them want, I want you for the rest of my life, so I ask again will you marry me?” He asked, emphasizing the you in the question. “Yes.” You answered, you couldn’t imagine what you looked like in that moment tears streaming down your face and a huge smile but he slipped the ring on anyway, before pressing his lips to yours. Your arms wrapped around his neck pulling him closer still as his hands rested on your hips, grip tight and unyielding in that alone you could tell that he wasn’t letting you go. That was enough.

Eve Reki AU

Aka Sk8 but Reki catches Adam’s eye instead of Langa.

Reki’s boards becoming more and more out of shape the worse he gets.

What used to take him no time at all now takes him hours. He’d make simple mistakes and any boards he made now were losing his own personal flair.

To the point Oka questioned if they were ones he’d bought trying to sell them off.

When really Reki had just begun to care for them less and less.

His passion was fading and with it his joy for inventing. He could hear Adam’s laughter in his ear telling him that it didn’t matter how good his board may be.

“After all a loser is still a loser hmm? So why don’t you spend some time actually trying to improve instead of playing arts and crafts.”

The board in Reki’s hands wasn’t one of his own. It hasn’t been for a while as Adam had had held his hand out expectantly and Reki had handed the board over obediently.

Watching it be thrown aside into a burning fire. And no matter how much it hurt him, Adam made sure Reki kept his eyes on it until it was reduced to nothing but ash.

The new board felt different and it took a while for Reki to get accustomed to it. It was top of the range any skater worth anything would die for even a turn on it.

Reki might’ve once.

The rest of his skateboards ended up on a sale in Dope Sketch. Oka kept asking him if it was fine and Reki simply nodded.

He didn’t trust himself to speak.

It would’ve been easier to never see those boards again but Langa was always carrying his. And then one day out of the blue so did Miya.

Why they both continued to use the boards Reki had made them was beyond him. Langa sure but Miya definitely had way better gear to use.

It did mean they’d need tune ups here and then and even with everything going on Reki couldn’t find it in his heart to tell them to find someone else.

He made them it made sense.

Both of them would sit beside them like they didn’t have anything better to do. Watching as Reki carefully fixed their boards and made them even better then before.

Because Reki could never find it in him to make their boards to be any less than perfect. His enthusiasm was quieter and he was so much less sure of himself then before.

But it was one of the few times Reki seemed like Reki again.

You can imagine Langa’s horror when his board breaks…

Sorry - you DON’T think Adam is a creep?: a Study on Why Eve is Romantic

Within the anime Sk8 the Infinity, there is possibly one topic more taboo and controversial than any other. This topic is the accusation of Adam potentially being a pedophile due to viewing Eve as a romantic partner and proceeding to pursue Langa as his Eve. Some people believe that Eve is just meant to be the perfect skateboarding partner, whilst others take a darker route of thinking when watching the show and looking at the subcontext, believing that Adam sees Eve as more than just platonic and instead as romantic. This essay will be diving into reasons why it appears Adam sees Eve as a romantic partner, rather than just a skateboarding partner as there are real reasons for this view - as disturbing as it is. These reasons include the implications of Adam and Eve as chosen nicknames, his strong love motif - especially romantic love imagery, and his actual actions towards Langa, who he believes to be his Eve.

The first point to be discussed is the fact that he calls himself Adam while claiming he’s looking for his Eve. There is no way to get around the biblical allusions that he’s making with these titles, the fandom recognizes this to the point where the ship name between Adam and Langa is Eden - which, by the way, super creepy that they’re a ship. But, the point is, that Adam calling himself Adam and saying he’s looking for his Eve has romantic implications. Adam and Eve were the perfect pair, Eve being quite literally made for Adam, and were together romantically. They were husband and wife, they had children together, they lost their place in Eden together - Adam and Eve hold a deep romantic history. So, for Sk8 the Infinity to have Adam be a character who is looking for his Eve, his perfect partner, it feels like it has deeper implications than just skateboarding. It feels less like Adam wants the ultimate skateboarding partner, but instead the person who can join him in every aspect of his life, someone who he can possess because of their perfect compatibility. Adam chose the moniker of Adam and Eve, and he did so purposefully. While some may view it as him just searching for the perfect partner, these names may hint to a deeper intent - a bigger desire.

The next issue is his strong love motif. To start with, his secondary title is “the Matador of Love”. While Adam is his primary name at S, this secondary name is brought up multiple times, and it just furthers his character being associated with love. He’s out here with anything that could be seen as love themed, and when translated matador means killer. This nickname feels like he could be claiming he’s the killer of love, but specifically that he’s killing two things - other’s love of skateboarding, but also love that sprouts up that would take attention from him. Both of these are seen with how he interacts with Reki the most, as he outright tries to destroy Reki’s relationship with Langa, while also beating out his love of skateboarding through their first match. So, Adam being called the “Matador of Love” has both meaning with the killer theme, but also ties to the references to love that the titles of his moves show to be romantic. The two skateboarding moves that Adam frequently uses are called “Love Hug” and “Full-Swing Kiss”. These names are deliberate, and are shown as romantic in different ways. The first is the “Love Hug”, where he literally grabs and hugs his opponent, dipping them - almost like a dance. The hold of it is reminiscent of the dips done in dances such as the tango, the salsa, ballroom dances, and probably so many more. While dancing is of course able to be platonically, it can also be a very romantic and couple bonding type activity as well, and this move being called the “Love Hug” just makes it feel like it pushes not only his love theme, but also the romantic side of it. The second move is outright called the “Full-Swing Kiss”, and yeah, people kiss their friends and family, but that doesn’t make this move any less sinister sounding when it’s done by Adam. When added to everything else about his love motif appearing romantic, even the name of this move being the “Full-Swing Kiss” should be called out.

The third thing pairs with his name of “the Matador of Love”, which is his costume. Adam wears a very showy and traditional matador look, which is stunning, but the design all lines up with his love theme. For starters, the costume is a beautiful shade of red - the colour associated with not only danger and power, but also romantic love, passion, and desire. Not as innocent sounding with those last three meanings, as while matador costumes traditionally can be red, there were also other colours they could be. To have it red, the colour of romantic love, could be another hint that Adam’s quest for Eve is actually romantic, as he dresses himself in the colour of desire. It doesn’t help that there are numerous hearts on Adam’s costume, with the most prominent being on his mask, his shoes, and potentially on his belt. The belt one isn’t as clear, and maybe it isn’t actually a heart, but it does hold some resemblance of one. The ones on his mask are very clear though, especially when Adam’s face is animated close up, the hearts are just beneath his eyes. The other clear hearts are on the top of his shoes. In a way too deep read into these hearts, one could potentially say that the heart placements are meant to show that he’s searching for his love, his Eve. Eyes for watching out for his love, his feet for always wandering until he finds them. The hearts are also done in red, on top of white and black respectively, making them very much the romance heart vibes. The second big colour within Adam’s costume is gold, which is getting a shoutout because it is a pretty popular colour for wedding rings. While not all wedding rings are gold, they are the most classic metal for them, and paired with the hearts and use of red, the gold does feel notable.

The last part of the love motif is Adam’s skateboard itself. This beautifully sinister skateboard has romance written all over it. The top of the skateboard has the word “love” written on top, as well as a clear heart on the back. It’s done in a shade of pink that looks like amaranth - which is a cool red-pink colour. This just continues Adam’s theme of using colours associated with love, as pink is also a colour used for love. The bottom is where it gets really interesting though, as it’s got numerous hearts on it, all done in the same pink colour, as well as one in the center that has swords through it. Even more convincing that Adam’s whole motif is specifically romantic love is the fact that right under that heart is a banner that reads “may death do us part” - a very traditional wedding vow. Again, Adam and Eve are seen as a romantic couple, they’re also commonly considered to be married as they’re literally made for each other. So, to have a wedding vow on his skateboard really does push the idea that Adam is looking for someone who would be the perfect romantic partner, not just the perfect skateboarding partner.

The final point is Adam himself - his actual actions and words. One of the bigger things that Adam does at one point is give a massive bouquet of red roses to Langa. Red roses are romance as an object, everyone knows that red roses are traditional to gift to a romantic partner. They symbolise romantic love, passion, desire, they’re used on Valentines day and at weddings for people to give to whoever they’re romantically involved with. Adam giving Langa red roses, right before they race, is incredibly blunt as a way to say that he’s interested in love when it comes to Langa - who he considers his Eve at that point. If Adam wanted to convey platonic love, he could’ve used pink roses (symbolising admiration, innocent love, grace, and happiness) or - even better - yellow roses (which outright symbolise friendship, as well as joy). The big bouquet of red roses, paired with the way that Adam seems to view races as a courting ritual, screams that he wants to actually pursue Langa. The second big red flag is their first meeting. Adam didn’t need to get that close to Langa to show him the proper footing, rather - he could have just demonstrated it for him. He could have pointed it out, Adam didn’t have to lean in, and correct it, get so close to the seventeen year old. Adam not outright touching Langa does not make that interaction any less creepy. And, as previously mentioned, Adam appears to think of skating against someone to be a courting ritual of sorts. What gives this away is the time he outright tells Miya that he falls in love with all of his skating partners, and to make it creepier, he claims that Miya was a bud who hadn’t blossomed yet, and that was why Adam had yet to fall for him. That whole interaction with Miya is awful, but has some damning evidence that points to Adam viewing Eve romantically. He claims to fall in love with those he skates with, and he’s searching for his perfect skateboarding partner, Eve. 

Overall, the evidence lines up. While everyone can interpret a character differently, there is weight to the interpretation that Adam views Eve, and therefore Langa, as a love interest. From his chosen moniker of Adam claiming he’s searching for Eve, to his entire love motif in names and his costume, to finally his actions and words. All of it creepily hinting toward Adam searching for a dream romance with his Eve, the perfect skateboarding partner, but also more to him. The way he acts towards Langa is even worse when framed in this way, as it makes Adam someone who’s interested in a seventeen year old boy when he’s well into his twenties. Adam as a character gives off bad vibes in general, and none of this helps his case of innocence. So while yes, people can see a character in different lights, some people will take off the rose-tinted lenses, read deeper into the sub-context, and see Adam as a probable pedophile who is outright pursuing a teenager, and people with this view shouldn’t be hated on just for interpreting a character in a darker way.

He's truly the hisoka of sk8. I cant even claim to be objective when looking at him though because my favorite character is Cherry and. Well i dont want to spoil since i dont think youve reached episode 9 yet... i think having just terrible antagonists that a sad-ish backstory cant redeem is fun! Antagonists that are fucked up for the love of the game are something i am fascinated by and adam definitely fits, a politician who uses his money and power to get away with things, deranged pervert villain. But this being said i hate him so so much and i think the ending of the anime was rushed... i also wouldve liked to see him and tadashi race... ah no spoilers! Back in the day i surrounded myself with ppl who loved matcha blossom so i dont think i saw that many adam fans, or if i did i erased it from my memory, but i do remember thinking people who genuinely shipped adam and langa were insane. I still do not want them anywhere near me. Rooting for the groomer and his victim to be together is... a choice! Not a good one unfortunately. Anyway. Do you ever think about the fact that, had langa not started skating, miya was on the path of being adam's new "eve"...

I’ve talked about this before but I’m sleep deprived and I’m gonna talk about it again.

Why Adam Hates Reki And How Exactly Sk8 Made The Best Bible Metaphor Of All Time; A Disorganized, incomplete collection of thoughts:

For all its flaws, there are many aspects of sk8s symbolism that are masterfully done and today I am thinking, again, about Adam, his “Eve” Langa, (ew) and Reki.

Like. Adam’s obsession with Langa is self explanatory enough. Therefore I will spare all of you, and myself, and let that speak for itself.

“But how does Reki fit into that?” You ask, and I am so glad you did.

The first point I want to make is that, obviously, Reki’s color is red. I mean, just look at him. You can’t miss it. Okay, hold onto that thought because I will be coming back to it.

Now, see, Adam could have asked anyone to stand in for Shadow in the tournament finals. Joe. Cherry. Miya. Literally anyone. But no. He has Tadashi, aka Snake, invite Reki, specifically. Because in his eyes, Reki is a threat. An ‘obstacle’ between him and Langa that needs to be dealt with. (Excuse me while I barf.)

“That’s crazy!” You say, lips curled in outrage and disgust. And, on one hand, you’re correct. But on the other hand, so is he. Because he’s right. In a way.

One thing we are shown repeatedly as the audience is that Reki embodies a pure and genuine love of skating. (What? Gasp, no way. And water is wet and the sky is blue???? Say it ain’t so!) Another thing we are shown is that Adam used to love skating the same way when he was younger, but all that sincere passion he used to hold for skating has been wheedled away into something dark and destructive. It is canonically stated on at least one occasion that he considers skating “an act of love”. So, maybe Adam’s annoyance (jealousy) of this particular aspect is more subconscious. Or he could be entirely self aware. I wouldn’t put it past him.

Another side still of Adams’s jealousy is much more simple. He hates Reki because Langa loves Reki. In his twisted little head, he is Adam, Langa is Eve, and Reki is a speck of dirt under his skateboard. Nothing else makes sense to him. And that is because he forgot the third and final piece of the gross bible metaphor he thinks he’s living.

Reki is not useless, a nobody, or a third wheel.

Because Reki is the apple.

The embodiment of knowledge, and the thing used to tempt Eve.

He is never referred to as such explicitly, but he is the one who first showed Langa how to skate. Reki is, in Langa’s words, his “teacher”. The person with the knowledge Langa wants to learn the most. (Plus, I find it hard to believe that they ‘accidentally’ had Snake, of all people be the one made to extend the invitation to Reki, which was done purely to get at Langa. )

And that is a good chunk of why I think Adam well and truly despises Reki.

You have Adam, Langa, and Reki.

Adam, “Eve,” and the apple secured by the snake.

And brother, Adam knows that Eve always chooses the apple.

I think I started to like him because he seemed so mysterious at first. And when he finally broke his silence I saw that his character had more layers than I initially expected. His personality is so funny to me he’s like that meme about the business man lying on his stomach like a teenage girl to answer emails. It would’ve been easy for the writers to make him a typical evil plotting advisor who is trying to take down Adam so I like that they went the romance route instead, it’s very cute to me. It also makes things am more complex because Adam is the one we usually see causing problems but Tadashi has hurt him too, which severely fractured their dynamic. So seeing him take accountability and try to remedy his past actions is really cool. It shows that he has more integrity than he lets on. But also he looks down on himself so much???? I know in a way it makes him happy to be beneath Adam but I still hope Adam helps this dude work on his confidence. You DO have opinions Tadashi pls break your silence more often

Reki is an extremely close second tho, he was v relatable to me when I first watched the show at 17 and I find him to be a really enjoyable character overall. I love the way he talks and how much energy he has, how deep his love for skateboarding goes. And also peak character design btw

Oh my god you made that sk8 post about how all of langas issues tend to be kind of ignored in the fandom right?? I'm so happy someone else brought it up, i could cry.

I think reki is a more popular character because people can probably relate to him more. He's very expressive and charming and his struggles are heartbreaking and serious but they're also something many people have experienced before.

To be clear i love reki a lot and i really liked his Arc in canon. But i think due to so many people so heavily projecting onto him/realting to him more/just liking him more, it often goes ignored that that whole thing hurt langa a Lot too. There's really no great way to handle a situation that emotionally fraught, so i'm not even critizing reki. but fact is langa was in a new country after losing his dad and indirectly the sport he'd clearly dedicated most of his life to. He had one friend and one thing he was very passionate about tied directly to said friend, and then suddenly he loses that too. I sympathized a lot with reki but also extremely with langa.

I Just wish there was more fics/art out there focusing on langa experiences because he's a character i really love. He's pretty socially awkward but very genuine to other people. He's clearly a prodigy but we also see him work very hard. He's really really passionate about his sport(s) and really ambitious in that regard. Even though his relationship with skating and Snowboarding is clearly complicated. I really wish there was more stuff about him out there....

Anyway sorry for ranting, i'm just really glad to see someone else point it out.

yes that was me!!!! reki is definitely the more popular out of the two of them, due to his relatability, so it makes sense as to why what happened to him was more focused on by the fandom. he also got a whole arc about it but langa’s was definitely more subtle to me.

langa went from having everything in okinawa (friends, a new hobby, actually feeling things, etc) to having nothing all in one argument. langa just didn’t know what was going on and thats so?? heartbreaking to me i guess. he knew that the tournament had something to do with it, though. but the thing is he thought skating against adam was what gave him that adrenaline rush and making his heart beat, but in reality that was all reki, and langa just didn’t know that. he went through an absolutely rollercoaster with that, and also with being preyed upon and being taken advantage of when he was vulnerable by adam. so yeah, i also sympathized a lot with him too (if you couldn’t tell)!

i CRAVE more langa fan content, he is my favorite character in the whole series after all! but the fact is that he is such an interesting character, and he has so many things about him that can make for interesting content.

Anon! I was so late that you already watched it lol But I am very happy that you enjoyed Sk8!!! Even though it’s been a while, I still love it a lot! Especially Adam/Langa, this is why whenever we remember about Sk8, we always get an urge to draw these two lol Such a lovely ship.

I am so, so happy that my logs made you want to experience Sk8 though! It really is an amazing show, so short yet so impactful somehow, with so many fun themes about self-worth, self-discovery, the importance of having fun and escapism. It feels like a passion project, a very special little show.

And even though the Langa=Silver question isn’t relevant anymore, I do feel like they are pretty similar. Of course, there are a lot of differences in their circumstances and motivation, but both of them are somehow passive/sleepy sweethearts who don’t seem very emotional but in fact feel very deeply about those who are close to them. Langa is crazier than Silver though lol

Since you consider Vil and Trey to be more strictly gay would their fem versions be more strictly gay too? Are there other people that you wouldn't consider as strictly gay as a guy but would as a girl or vice versa or is it a perfect one to one translation of gayness?

In regards to the girlies, I picture both Vil and Trey as strictly lesbians! And I think I should probably clarify what I mean by “strictly gay” because it’s technically not the most correct way to put it… Sorry for being confusing!

In general, we don’t think about sexualities at all. I say that by default everyone is gay because we just don’t find non-gay relationship all that interesting, even though we would ship absolutely anything that we find interesting and fun (including f/m ships). So the true default state would be like “anything is possible, but we don’t like to think about it”.

When I say that a character is more strictly gay in my head, what I am trying to say is that there are some aspects of gay existence/experience/etc that I feel align with this character quite well. And since we aren’t at all interested in headcanoning sexualities, this is a pretty rare occasions. So my examples are usually Vil and Trey because I just feel like they are the people who would trigger one’s gaydar very obviously based on who they are as people. I hope that makes sense.
