The Halstead’s (Jay Halstead Imagine)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Engaged couple, Jay x Reader
Summary: Reader has some news for her fiance, only months before their supposed wedding.
Warnings: Violence, mention of death, guns
A/N: I’ve had this imagine written out for months in so many ways but I can finally say that I’m happy with the final draft! Also, we need more Jay imagines. Like NEED
The warm cup of hot chocolate rested between y/n’s palms while she was zoned off staring at the blank wall in front of her. She rested her back on the counter in the break room, away from the rest of the team trying to clear her head.
“Hey, you okay?” Kim asked, closing the door behind her.
“I’m pregnant.” Y/n whispered, her eyes landing on Kim’s brown eyes. Knowing her to well, she expected Kim to hug her and smile like crazy. And she did, but y/n was still in shock.
“You don’t seem happy.” Kim said, pulling away from the hug.
“I don’t know how to feel; I don’t know if he’s going to be happy. The wedding is next year, we already have a lot of money going into that, imagine a small human being.” Y/n was freaking out, the hot beverage spilling on to the floor.
“First, let’s take this away from you.” Kim grabbed the cup out of her hands and placed it on the counter behind her before grabbing y/n’s hands into hers. “Secondly, he wants to have a life with you. He wants to build a family with you, he proposed to you for a reason.”
“What if he really meant him and I with my dog Teddy by family and not a baby. A baby isn’t independent, he needs a lot of things to go from a small human being to a huge human being and I can’t even remind myself to eat imagine me trying to take care of a baby.” She was freaking out, with the stress of the wedding, family drama and this on top of it all was driving her insane. “My abuelita is going to kill me, she thinks I’m a virgin still. She doesn’t believe in having sex before marriage let alone having a baby.”
“You need to breath, you’re stressing yourself out and not only could it harm the baby but you. Deep breaths Y/n.” Kim grabbed her by the shoulders, shaking her gently to get her to react. “There we go, breathe in and out.” She smiled a bit, satisfied that Y/n was back to her normal breathing.
“I needed that, the whole morning I was trying not to burst out panicking every time Jay asked me if I was okay.” Y/n sighed, running her hands through her tangled hair.
“When did you find out?”
“This morning, I used the excuse of taking Teddy for his morning walk and went to buy the pregnancy test at the pharmacy.” She explained. “Thankfully he was sleeping when I came back, so I took three tests just to make sure and all of them were clear.”
“How are you going to tell him? It’s needs to be cute and original.” Kim was excited and y/n smiled at her. Her best friend always knew how to make her feel better.
“The least I’ve been thinking is how do it.”
“I have an idea, leave it all to me and by the end of the day I’ll have it for you.” Kim gently squeezed Y/n’s hand before walking out the door bouncing of the walls. God, she couldn’t be more discreet.
“Hey, we got a lead on the case.” Adam said, shaking a file between his hand. “Santos and his friends were just spotted on his childhood neighborhood. A patrol car just confirmed his vehicle is parked up in the driveway.”
“What are we waiting for? Let’s go.” Voight ordered, grabbing his jacket along with the rest of the team.
“This son of a bitch has the dignity to come back into town knowing Kings is looking to avenge him for killing his brother?” Jay said, turning up at the correct street.
“This doesn’t feel right Jay; he has never been this reckless.”
“You think something is off?” Jay glanced at her, grabbing her hand with his opposite hand, the other resting on the wheel.
“I know something is off, if Hernandez told Adam’s about him being back, don’t you think Kings would know too by now?” Y/n had a point.
“We’re already here, so let’s see what happens.” Jay squeezed her palm gently into his before pressing a kiss on the back of her palm.
“Burguess and Y/n hit the back, Atwater and Rusek go to the sides while Antonio and Jay barge in with us following behind.” Voight ordered, everyone going to their assigned positions. Y/N heard the door being broken down as she held her gun forwards while Kim covered for her in the back. Y/N’s heart jumped as shots were fired, but suddenly the back door was slammed opened.
“Armed suspect is heading north, towards the Alley behind the house.” Antonio spoke through the radio. “Suspect is wearing a grey hoodie, white sneakers and black jeans. White male about six feet tall with brown curly hair.”
“Get the car.” Y/n shouted at Kim as she made a head start running behind the armed suspect. Kim was about to protest but Y/n had already jumped up the small fence behind the guy.
“Detective Y/L/N is in pursuit of the suspect, I’m right behind her in the van.” Kim announced threw the radio, Halstead checking the pulse on Santos.
“He’s dead.” He called out, Voight’s blood boiling.
“Headed towards Greyfield complex’s alley way, shots fired at the police.” Y/N was the one now speaking through the radio, shots being heard clearly in the background. “Suspect is not alone, I repeat. He’s not alone.”
“Damn it, go after her.” Voight ordered Antonio and Jay, leaving Al alone with patrol in the scene.
“I’ve lost them.” Kim spoke through again, driving like a maniac through every alley she found close by.”
Y/N shot the suspect on the back of his knee, making him fall down to the floor agonizing in pain. “Drop the weapon.” She shouted, clearly out of breath.
“You don’t know who you’re dealing with sweetheart.” He chuckled, his gun still in his hand.
“Wait till you meet with my boss.” She smirked, knowing Voight will be fuming once he gets his hands on him.
Walking closer, Y/n placed the gun behind The suspects head. “I won’t say it again, put the damn gun down.”
Suddenly, two strong hands pulled her face down to the ground, her gun flying out of her grip. “Stupid bitch, you women never learn to listen to a man when he tells you to.”
Coughing from the sudden impact on her chest with the ground, she felt a foot holding her down as the third man stood in front of her with his gun pointing at her.
“Detective Y/L/N report your location.” Jay’s voice was the one heard on the radio, he needed to keep his emotions in. But all he thought was the worst things that could’ve happened to her.
Kim made a sudden stop when she recognized her partner, who was being held down on the ground.
Y/n was suddenly pulled up and pushed against a brick wall while one man held her arms tightly behind her back. Eyeing the second man, he hid his gun on his back as he tried to help her partner up from the floor. Knowing that was her only shot to get away, she kicked the man who was holding her on his balls and once he released her hands; her elbow met with his nose.
Groaning, she took the gun hidden on his back and hit him across the face with it until he was down on the floor. Running towards her own gun, she shot at the second man who had been holding the main suspect at the same time he pulled out his own gun. She shot him once on his knee and the second one went through his shoulders. “I’m at the alley way behind Greyfield’s bar.” It was all she managed to say, resting her back at the parked abandoned car.
Kim was the first on the scene, helping Y/n handcuff the suspects. Not even a few minutes later, the rest of the team were on scene. “Heck of a run kid.” Antonio was the first one to speak as she made her way towards the team.
“I’ve had worse on my rookie days.” She chuckled.
“He’s all yours Sergeant.” Y/n spoke to Voight, only for him to pat her on the back gently before leaving her for the suspect who had shot Santos.
“I was worried.” Jay said, dusting off the dirt on her face.
“I know you would be, but I can handle myself.” Y/N sighed, leaning against his car.
“I know you can, but I still worry.” He chuckled, caressing her cheek with his thumb. Y/n smiled at him, he always worried for her but he knew she was capable of taking anyone down by herself.
“Oh God.” Y/n mumbled, pushing Jay aside all of the sudden before leaning down to throw up. Jay’s hand automatically went to her back as he ran his palm up and down to soothe her down.
“You okay?” Jay asked worriedly, Adam handing y/n a small hand towel to help her clean up.
“The adrenaline rush caught up to me.” She nervously laughed it off, wiping herself clean.
Back at the station, Y/n packed up all her stuff and was ready to go home but Kim had something for her.
“I’ll take this to the car for you, I’ll wait for you there when you’re finished.” Jay pressed a quick kiss to her temple as he grabbed her gym bag out of her hand. “I would kiss you right now but you stink of vomit.” He chuckled as Y/n punched him on his shoulder.
“You’re lucky that I love you.” She rolled her eyes at him before he left.
“Is he gone yet?” Kim asked, coming out of the break room. Y/n nodded, eager to know what Kim had for her. “Here it is.” Kim took out white box from her bag and handed it to Y/n.
With her trembling hands, she lifted the box’s top and was left in awe. “How did you get this made? He’s going to love it.”
“I pulled a few strings, plus I felt like it if wasn’t something related to you both it wouldn’t make sense.”
“Thank you so much Kim, you’re the best.” Y/n pulled him into a tight hug, trying her best not to cry.
“It’s the least I could do for you, you deserve the world Y/n.” Pressing a kiss to her cheek, Y/n made her way down the stairs and hid the little box in her handbag before meeting up with Jay at the car.
At their shares home, Y/n grabbed the pizza box from the table and took it to the kitchen to be dealt with later. Jay was watching his baseball game on the tv with his second beer bottle of the night while Y/n had snuck away to get the little box from her bag.
Once the commercial break queued, she had all of his attention. He watched her make her way towards him, eyeing her head to toe. She was beautiful, stunning and amazing in his eyes. He wouldn’t dare trade his life for anything else.
Y/N took the beer out of his hand before sitting on his lap, wrapping her legs around his waist. “I have something for you.” She smiled, before giving him a quick peck on his lips. He rested his hands on her waist, his glistening eyes admiring her completely. How did he get so lucky? He thought.
“What else could you give me? I have everything I want in front of me.” He looked up at her lovingly, placing small and sweet kisses on her neck and exposed shoulders.
“Wait till you open this.” Y/n said, handing him the white box she hid behind her back. At first, he gave her a confused look. But then he slowly took of the top of the box to reveal a detective plaque on top of a small silver cushion.
“The Halstead’s, soon to be parents.” Jay read out loud, his eyes quickly darting towards hers. “You’re pregnant?” He stuttered, his eyes getting foggy from the tears. Y/N nodded, not being able to form a single sentence from the knot forming in her throat. Jay placed the box on the coffee table in front of them before grabbing Y/n’s face between his hands. “We’re going to be parents.” He was smiling now, the happy tears already dampening his cheeks.
She couldn’t help but cry even more at his reaction, he didn’t freak out, he was happy. “You know we might have to push the wedding.”
“The least thing I’m worried about is about that, all I’m thinking of is how lucky I am to have you and our baby. I love you.” Jay said. Resting her hand on the back of his neck, she pulled him in for a kiss. His lips meeting with her in sync. She couldn’t help but smile, she loved him.
“God, you’re amazing.” Y/N mumbled between kisses. “I love you so much Jay.”
“I love our little family already.” Jay’s smile was breathtaking, he was in awe and full of love. It’s the happiness he deserved.
