Advertising has always been about telling people what they want and why they need it, but it’s impressive how far companies will go now. An increasing hostility towards their target market, reshaping platforms to be less user-friendly and less informative, every day a new hoop to jump through and a new pitfall to avoid.
There’s bending over backwards and then there’s breaking your own spine.
#literally every aspect of the internet has been consumed by advertising interests#and you really have to stand back and admire how the benefits of forums and news sites and search engines#were steamrolled by companies wanting to make that extra .006 cents for the click on an ad for a product they never buy.#ad execs still think eyeballs are a direct correlation to people caring. and it’s not.#the more obtrusive and inescapable advertising becomes the less it matters#you think if you corner people and grab them by the face and force them to look then they’ll see why they need Your Thing#but odds are if they realize you’re forcing them to look then there’s a reason why
