Still Life 1
I am at a cafe that I first started coming to in the late 90’s. Over half of my life ago. Dana Street Roasting Company in Mountain View, California. It has been decades since I could call myself a regular. I don’t know who anyone here is except for Nick, the owner, and no one here knows who I am - not even Nick, though maybe he once did, a little bit. When I started coming here, when I actually was a regular, the place was called Jumpin Java. Nick still owned it then, the name change came about when he bought a roaster and started selling beans. In the old days, everyone who worked here was a punk who had moved from Austin Texas or somewhere close by, the was a group of five or six of them. The main figure among them was a guy named Aaron who managed the place. He wore tattoos from Wilson’s Illuminatus! Trilogy, constantly played loud industrial music in the cafe, and led the Texas punks. If you were sitting outside and he came out and hung with you for five minutes while taking a smoke break it felt like a great privelege, like being chosen for something. Like most people I knew in Mountain View, he has long since left, first for Arizona, and now I believe he lives in Washington. It was a lively place, for a small boring town like Mountain View, often hard to get a seat unless you knew someone who’s table you could join, and there was a little stage with live jazz and folk bands playing from Thursdays to Sundays, three tables outside for smokers, and also a whole alley where people hung out. There were two other main cafes in Mountain View in those days - Red Rocks and Cuppa Joe’s - which also had decent crowds and live music on the weekends. Also two corporate cafes further up Castro Street, a Starbucks and a Peet’s, but I’m not counting those. Also a branch of a local bagel chain, a fake French bakery, two good pho places, a ramen place, several Indian restaurants with good lunch buffet deals - one of which, Sue’s, also featured a gallery of art by the owner. Also several good dim sum places, a handful of American style Chinese food places, a couple of bars I was too young to have much interest in, a large Chinese grocery store, an excellent taqueria called Los Charros (for the food, but also there was a bartender working there with a famous mustache), a hippy ice cream shop, a small Hong Kong style bakery with great pork rolls, and a number of acupuncture and herbal medecine shops. If you were to sit at a table outside the cafe and look towards Castro street, you’d see an herb shop, an attorney’s office, a small real estate office, and then on the corner there’s Easy Food Company, a Chinese convenience store that sold a wide range of imported goods from snack foods to liqueurs to statues, where I used to buy Parliament Lights for $2.50 a pack.
This town has been through many drastic changes. The above description applies to when I was in my late teens and early twenties. When I came to the downtown area as a young child, it was different, like it came from a different era. Appliance stores that looked like they were from the 50’s, wooden boardwalks on the sidewalks, a weird fake “old west” vibe. But I didn’t spend much time here as a child so I don’t know much more about it beyond that superficial impression.
Now it is over two decades later since the time I describe in the first paragraph. The three tables are still here outside the cafe, and I’m sitting at one of them. But the inside is a jumble of upside down chairs, plastic milk crates, burlap sacks of coffee beans and burlap sacks of burlap sacks. There is nowhere to sit, no music playing, no schedule of upcoming live bands, and nowhere for any bands to play or set up anyway. But the outside part of the cafe is unchanged, and when I look towards Castro street I see the herb shop, the attorney’s office, the real estate place, and Easy Food Company, which still sells a wide range of imported Chinese goods from snack foods to liqueurs to statues and they probably still sell Parliament Lights too, though I’ve long since quit and I doubt they are $2.50 a pack.
Beyond Easy Food, Castro Street itself, is where the most drastic change has occurred. The most obvious change of course is due to the pandemic. Once busy with cars, the street has been blocked off up at California Ave all the way down to the train station, which means about five blocks of it are pedestrian only, and the restaurants and cafes have spilled out into the street. This happened back in 2020, and a number of neighborhing towns did the same. Some of those, like Palo Alto, have reversed course and opened their downtown areas back up to traffic. But in Mountain View this seems to be a more permanent situation, and personally I think it’s a drastic improvement. On evenings and weekends Castro street fills up with families eating at the many restaurants that now have tables in the middle of the street and there are musicians performing on street corners. But if you come here on a weekday morning there are few people around and the lack of cars provides a peaceful atmosphere.
The other massive change is due to the growth of the tech industry, but this is a change that has occurred in waves, again and again, over the course of my life. The phrase “Silicon Valley” is often used in the media and discourse as a shorthand term for the computer/internet/technology business regardless of location, but also Silicon Valley is a physical place, it’s the Santa Clara Valley, and Mountain View is very much in the heart of it. The growth of this industry brings influxes of people - people from all over, but mainly from other parts of the US, from China, and from India and other South Asian countries. My own family came from Massachusetts in the early 80’s. This was of course several decades before Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. came into being. The main tech companies in those days were Sun, Hewlett-Packard, Apple still a fledgling but very quickly growing. In those days it felt more concentrated down in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, towns where you’d see these huge corporate “office parks”. By the time I left for college there was another “tech boom” with a different suite of companies, this time around the internet. The age of Yahoo, Hotmail, Geocities, the personal web page, the AltaVista search. I wasn’t in the Bay Area at the time, and what I heard was that it changed a lot and then changed back. It was a bubble that burst. But it was to be one of several. There was another, later growth of the industry around a new set of internet companies - the ones we are dealing with now. Google in particular probably had more of an effect on Mountain View than most, when they set up a massive campus here. Now as I write this, any random person I see on the street in this town or a neighboring town has a good chance of either being an employee of one of those massive tech companies, or of being someone who was recently laid off by one of them.
In terms of this town, and my place in it, the change is both bad and good. The inequality gap has grown wider, and personally there is no way I could afford to live here now, unless my fortunes were to drastically change. I only come to this area a few times a year, when visiting my wife’s family, who are the only people I still know in this part of the Bay. All of the wonderful types of food that I describe in the first paragraph are here, and more, if not the exact same places. Los Charros is now called La Espuala, but the menu is the same, even if the guy with the mustache no longer works there. There are many good Indian restaurants, though they no longer offer cheap lunch buffets. Red Rocks, one of the other independent cafes, is also still around and even has an open mic night once a week, and more places to sit than Dana Street - but their coffee just isn’t as good. Some of the places are the same - one of the pho places that I used to go to on lunch breaks when I was a telemarketer is still here, and still looks the same. A lot of the other places are essentially just more expensive or “prestige branded” versions of the places that were here before, and there are a lot more of them, and even if I can’t afford to live here I can at least, sometimes, afford eating here, and in fact after I finish writing here I’m going to go to the Hong Kong bakery to get a pork roll.
During the time while I was writing this, someone came and joined me at the table to do some work on a laptop. After some time they mentioned that they “used to come here a long time ago” and I thought it was so odd that I was writing about the exact same subject, and wondered if this was someone I used to know. But further conversation revealed that by “a long time ago” they meant 2012, while I was thinking of the previous century.
If you’ve read all this, for whatever reason: this isn’t a story or a polemic. There’s no point to it. Just writing for the sake of writing, background without a foreground.

so yesterday (10/2) a lady came in and was on her phone the whole time she was shopping and so we couldn’t really help her on the floor. then she got to the register to check out and she got a bunch of products that were full price and she asked if they came up for the buy 3 get 1 free sale and i told her they were excluded from the deal. she then proceeded to SCREAM at me about how the sign was with those products and california law requires certain verbiage on signs that specify exclusions and i told her the sign did say “select” items and it has details in the fine print.
i also let her know that the sign was in the cabinet NEXT to the products she picked, which had a completely different collection, and THOSE products were part of the deal. she spent the next 5-10 minutes in our store screaming at my other manager and said she was about to go to her acupuncture appointment and now she was all tense. it was also really hilarious how when my manager wouldn’t give her a coupon or a discount because she didn’t read the sign, she said “i’m gonna call corporate right now and you’ll see, i’ll have a coupon from them by the time i leave!” and my manager just said “okay” and then she left…..without a coupon.

Avenue south residence price list
For over three decades I had been in the advertising and commercial film industry working with the talented, rich and famous. At the end of this, I thought I could disappear into quiet. I began my Madison Avenue advertising career in the heyday of advertising in the mid-60's, last century, at the top of the ad game, Young & Rubicam. Y&R had the top accounts, creativity and billing. It was a great place to work; if your family could initially afford to send you there (their starting salaries reflected their entry value). After a few restless years of changing departments four times we both (Y&R and I) finally realized corporate America was not the right fit for me and I went back to NYU film school and jumped to the other side: commercial film production. I was destined to keep working with the talented, rich and famous. Fate continued to linked me with some of the most talented commercial and feature film directors in the world; the likes of Ridley and Tony Scott and George Lucas. The Scott brothers and I, along with many multi-talented people, founded Fairbanks Films and that company took over the commercial film production advertising world in short order producing such famous TV commercials as the "1984 Apple Computer" spot that launched cyber technology into the world. Then the Lucas films people decided they wanted to get into the advertising game. And why not? After the motion film industry, the advertising business was making as much money as anybody. So over to Lucas I went with all the inventive, digital technology at hand. It's fair to say, we taught the Avenue south residence price list advertising world digital wizardry, even though others jumped on quickly. It was great fun being the director of marketing of the commercial division teaching the ad world how they could bring any image to the screen, if only they had enough money and time. We changed the look and abilities of commercial film forever producing thousands of spots worldwide. Many of these spots became household icons. During my three decades, I got to know the planet up close and personal and it was more than anyone could ask out of career! So I thought when it came time to retire I surely would be ready for peace and quiet. Wrong...
If you are in the film business, you get to know California really well. Or at least I thought I did. The weather, locations, studios and crews made California an almost MUST on any production schedule. Only strikes and cheap clients would prevent you from shooting in California. Fairbanks Films was my finishing school in southern California and the Lucas organization completed northern California. George Lucas preferred the north over the south (for reasons we won't get into).
While commuting to northern California from New York City my entire time with Industrial Light & Magic Commercials/Lucasfilms, I often took advantage of the natural wonders this part of the world has to offer. One of my most memorable trips was driving to the top of Mount Shasta, just south of the Oregon border. Mount Shasta is part of a dramatic volcano mountain range that snakes its way north. The size and grandeur of this mother of mountains was amazing; you could see it from 100 miles away. We had nothing like it on the East coast. And I thought enjoying its wondrous size and beauty was enough at the time. I would later learn otherwise... Ten years later I would return 'retired' for another purpose entirely...
Some say as we grow older and get closer to leaving, some become more spiritual, women become more masculine and men more feminine, or something like that. Well, anyway after some medical mishaps and 'enough is enough' syndrome, I did leave film and advertising. I mean what else was I going to do, produce another commercial? The last spot we did was the biggest commercial ever created for Ford motor company (90 days of shooting all over the world, the largest budget ever, aired all over the world; this was the perfect swan song. Did I need another cue? No! And there was this curious notion that something inside of me was awakening... Something else was next...
My mother was American Indian descended and my father Irish. My father's Celtic grandmother, my great grandmother, was a back woods Alabama healer. I call it my "I" and "I" links (Irish & Indian, both known for native healing). I remember sitting by great grandmother's bedside as a young child listening to her stories of her healing potions and how people would walk for days to get to her for "a healing."
She knew how to pick herbs from the forest floor and turn pine tree sap into a soothing medicine. So I imagined this ability was also in my DNA. And it was.
Filmmakers are often multi-faceted people and while I was working with one of my film directors on a project I developed a cold and shared my family's healing background. My director-friend immediately suggested that I see his alternative medical doctor named Dr. Herbert Fill. This filmmaker knew I was at the end of my film career and there was more to cure than a cold. Dr. Fill was a rare mix of psychiatry, acupuncture and homeopathic remedies, and commissioner of mental health in the city administration; all this in a Park Avenue office. It was not long before the patient became the student of alternative medicine under Dr. Fill. This was my transition from advertising into the "healing arts."
Once my transition, or should I say, my transformation began it went fairly quickly. After a couple of years of studying under Dr. Fill, I easily moved into energy therapy training called Reiki and Light Ascension; and became certified in these. These new alternative medical worlds introduced me to an entirely new community of people not associated with advertising or film. I began to know this was not going to be the beginning of a quiet retirement but a reinvention of self.

Quite sweet wine goes with dessert as almost every other wine paired which has a sweet dish will flavor acidic. The whites will Lower by means of brine plus the reds will add texture for the meat and both will draw out flavours. For dining establishments it might be beneficial to consider the factors when it comes to taste with the wine as that cannot be altered the food can be made within the wines available. Become a Cupping Therapist: Build a Successful TCM Practice
Cupping therapy has been an essential part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine practice for centuries. But it gained sudden popularity four years back.
During the 2016 Rio Olympics, several athletes were seen sporting red spots all over their bodies. Many Olympians including the swimming legend Michael Phelps was seen winning the gold with red marks all over his back and arms. Even the USA men’s gymnastics team used cupping for efficient healing. Suddenly, it triggered the popularity of cupping.
Add to it, the influence of celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian, and many more, you understand why the ancient practice is finding its fans in the Western world.
Cupping therapy is an ancient healing practice that focuses on alleviation of pain, loosening of muscles, improvement in blood flow, and better relaxation. Many people even consider it a form of deep-tissue massage. A licensed therapist will put special kinds of cups on the skin to generate suction and increase muscle recovery and optimize the energy flow in the body.
In addition to muscle relaxation and quicker recovery, cupping therapists believe that cupping can help in treating several types of conditions such as:
1)Paralysis.
2)Migraines.
3)Varicose veins.
4)High blood pressure.
5)Anxiety and depression.
6)Digestive complaints.
7)Shoulder pain, cervical spondylosis, hip pain, etc.
8)Plantar Fasciitis.
9)Fibromyalgia and Arthritis.
10)Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
11)Lung disorders such as cough, common cold, chest congestion, asthma, etc.
12)Skin problems such as eczema and acne.
You will find practitioners using glass cupping sets and kits. The cups are made from bamboo, earthenware, silicone, and plastic as well.
Primarily, cupping involves two types of therapies:
1. Dry Cupping: Suction-Only
During this type of cupping therapy, the practitioner will put any kind of flammable substance (usually alcohol, herbs, and/or paper) in a cup. As the substance is burnt in the cup and the fire goes out, he will place the cup upside down over ashi (painful area) or over an acupoint depending on the treatment. Because fire is involved in dry cupping, it is sometimes called fire cupping as well.
As the cup slowly cools down, it creates a vacuum and pulls the skin upward. This expands the blood vessels and loosens the tension in the muscle. Nowadays, you will find many practitioners using cupping sets with suction pumps to avoid the use of fire in the treatment. This technique is also called air cupping.
During the course of treatment, sliding silicone cups are used to treat large muscle groups. In this treatment, massage oil is necessary before the application of cups so that they can easily glide over the skin.
2. Wet Cupping: Suction plus Incision
In wet cupping therapy, the therapist will follow the same procedure in the beginning. Once the cups are removed from the skin, he will administer little cuts to remove toxic blood from the body. Usually, medical-grade acupuncture lancets are used to draw blood in a controlled manner. This technique is also popular as “hijama”.
Build a Career as a Cupping Therapist
If the world of cupping and traditional healing practices excites you, it can become a rewarding career. Learn the benefits of becoming a cupping therapist.
A. Higher Demand for Holistic Healing Practices
Acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion and several other types of TCM practices are taking the entire world by storm. Holistic practices focus on the overall health of the patient. People across the world are opening up to ancient practices that do not rely on pharmaceutical drugs, but focus on treating the problem from its roots.
B. Recognized by the Government
Unlike many other traditional practitioners, TCM practitioners are widely recognized in America. Several states have their own governing and licensing bodies for TCM. This means that when you get a license to practice TCM therapies including cupping massage therapy, you have incredible growth opportunities. And, with the growing popularity of alternative medicine, you can truly build a solid career for yourself.
C. Flexibility is Essential
One of the disadvantages of working in a corporate set up is bureaucracy. On the other hand, flexibility is one of the biggest perks of working as a cupping therapist. You can work on your terms and even open a practice on your own. It will give you the flexibility to manage your schedule and you give the opportunity to become a successful entrepreneur.
D. Expand your Horizon
Due to the increasing popularity of cupping therapy, your job opportunities are practically limitless. You can choose where you want to work. All the major cities have a demand for the profession. And, it can even take you to exciting places. Whether you want to work at a resort, spa, wellness center, or cruise ships, you can pursue a career in the way you deem necessary.
E. Faster Growth Trajectory
If you are passionate about the health and wellness sector, a career in TCM practice is a faster way to reach your goals and practice alternative medicine. It doesn’t require you to spend years learning allopathy and you can stay away from the phenomenal burden of student loans. By learning acupuncture, cupping, and other TCM therapies, you will be able to build your career quickly.
Becoming a Licensed TCM Practitioner is the First Step
In order to establish a practice in the field of alternative medicine, you need to get a valid license and certification from the regulatory board. In America, a majority of the states have rules in place to regulate the TCM practices. For example, California has its own examination and licensing policy. A few other states may require you to get a certification from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Buying Quality Cupping Massage Supplies is the Second Step
Once you are ready to practice your skills, it is essential that you have the best cupping supplies available on the market. As you are going to treat patients with cupping massage frequently, it makes sense to buy cupping accessories in bulk.
Make sure you choose a reliable wholesale acupuncture store to make the purchase. You will find that cupping sets come in multiple sizes and materials. Nowadays, digital cupping sets are also available to enhance the benefits of electric acupuncture. So, you need to understand your needs and discuss your requirements with a wholesale supplier. It will help you in making an affordable purchase of cupping sets and supplies.
All the best!

The Chakras Handbook: Tap into Your Body's Energy Centers for Well
The Chakras Handbook: Tap into Your Body's Energy Centers for Well-Being, Manifestation, and Positive Energy
Hardcover – January 22, 2019
by Athena Perrakis (Author)
Tap into the nine major chakras that affect your power, health, and well-being. A condensed version of the best-selling The Ultimate Guide to Chakras, The Chakra Handbook is the essential portable reference for the experienced energy worker, as well as the perfect introduction for anyone just starting out. First discussed in ancient Hindu texts and studied for thousands of years in numerous spiritual traditions, including acupuncture, meditation, and yoga, chakras are the power centers connecting your physical body and the world of energy. By tapping into the power of your chakras, you can live a healthier, balanced, and more abundant life. Athena Perrakis, leading metaphysical teacher and creator of the world's largest online metaphysical resource website, SageGoddess.com, has created a modern guide to the ancient practice of working with the chakras. Unlike most other guides, which only address the seven body chakras, The Chakra Handbook addresses the nine major chakras you can tap into to balance, heal, and manifest. This guide explains how and why different crystals, aromatherapy, essential oils, and sacred plants help to support each chakra. Each chapter of The Chakra Handbook also includes magical exercises for accessing the energy of each chakra, including meditations, journal exercises, and working with goddesses and spirit guides. Readers will even learn how to create a dedicated chakra altar, a mandala, chakra-specific incense blends, as well as other inspired projects. Lavishly photographed and illustrated, this guide promises to be an essential volume for beginners and experienced energy workers alike.

Through its co-op model and educational programs, Gather studio in San Diego aims to make yoga and wellness accessible to all.
Gather studio in Encintas, CA.
Live Be Yoga ambassadors Lauren Cohen and Brandon Spratt are on a road trip across the country to sit down with master teachers, host free local classes, and so much more—all to illuminate the conversations pulsing through the yoga community today.
I could feel it the moment I stepped into Gather in Encinitas, California – the simplicity, the warmth, the humility, the devotion. It permeated the air and the architecture, creating a sense of belonging. After walking along a short pathway on the side of the building to enter, I admired the open, light-filled space. I checked myself into class simply by writing my name down and choosing which form of payment I’d like to use to pay the teacher – cash or Venmo – on a sliding scale of $10 - $20. At Gather, it’s all about the yoga: there’s no distractions, no front-desk staff, no pressure to purchase anything and no marketing collateral. As I set up my mat, the teacher greeted me with a sweet smile and welcomed me to the space. I dropped right into my practice – this practice that has transformed my life and continues to inspire and awaken me, over and over again.
After speaking with Lauren Duke, the founder of Gather, it’s clear that she had a similar experience when she first walked into Yoga Swami 11 years ago, after moving from the Bay Area to San Diego. Duke discovered yoga, as many do, seeking a way to “quell her suffering." She described her first class as equally intimidating and enchanting. That first savasana was the first time she felt truly present, and that sense of presence is what inspired her to dive deeper into the practice, taking her first training when she was 19 and opening a studio at age 24 in Pacifica, California.
When she moved to San Diego and found Yoga Swami, she also discovered a home and a community that couldn’t be matched. Before the space closed in 2009, it was a community hub that provided donation-based classes inside a yurt, in the heart of Encinitas. It operated as a co-op, giving each teacher the opportunity to pay rent and take home the earnings from their classes, while being part of a larger mission to bring people together through yoga. Having attended many yoga classes at various studios, Lauren remembered how different she felt walking into Yoga Swami for the first time.

Lauren Duke
The Studio that Started it All: Yoga Swami
“When I first went to Yoga Swami as a student, I could feel the difference compared to other studios,” said Duke. “There was no one to interrupt my flow and turn my experience into some sort of monetary exchange. On top of that, there was an obvious difference in the level of practice. The artfulness and authenticity was up-leveled because teachers were paying rent for their classes. You don’t do that unless you’re really good at what you do.”
When Yoga Swami shut down as a result of Encinitas banning sustainable wooden structures due to potential fire hazards (i.e. the yurt), Duke decided to take matters into her own hands in order to keep the community alive and honor the co-op model that inspired this higher level of authentic studentship (adhikara).
She opened Green Flash Yoga as the next iteration of Yoga Swami. Less than two years later, when the building was sold, Duke relocated to a new space called Yoga Bergamot. Six years later, that building was sold too, and Duke decided to find and create something that could really last. After she successfully raised $25,000 through a Go-Fund-Me campaign, it became even more clear that she had the support she needed to make it happen. Next thing she knew, she and her partner were renovating an old tear-down building to carry on the legacy that had inspired her and so many others
So, while Gather has only been open for two years in its current space along Highway 101 in Encinitas, it is really the continuation of a 10-year project and the fourth iteration of a space that has become much more than a yoga studio. This is why Duke and the Gather family think of it as a “social movement,”rather than a yoga space, with a mission to cultivate community, creativity and wellness through yoga and various educational programs.
“Gather is an education space and a hub for knowledge, connection, inspiration and community,” said Duke. “We want to open up the box of yoga and make it more about mental health and tapping into tools to help people enjoy their lives more.”
Students work on their handstands at Gather studio.
How Does a Yoga Co-Op Work?
As a co-op, teachers at Gather collectively pay rent on the space and everyone acts as a team player. Teachers take home 100 percent of class fees. They are themselves responsible for growing their classes, and, in turn, helping to grow the Gather community. “Through this model, teachers are more willing to hold themselves accountable,” said Duke. They are building their brand while also building Gather’s, and when done successfully, they can make 4 to 10 times as much money as they would in a regular studio setting.
What I love most about this model is the fact that everyone who is part of Gather is viewing it as a project and as a movement - one that requires a dedicated team working together to be of service to anyone and everyone that walks through its doors. The model also provides teachers with a beautiful incentive to create what they want to create and to be entrepreneurs in every sense of the word. As a teacher who is very familiar with the hustle of going from class to class at various studios, at times feeling isolated in the process, I am deeply inspired by the co-op model and the overall vision of Gather; inspired so much that I am exploring how to bring the vision to life in San Francisco.

Teachers Creating and Nurturing Community
It was particularly inspiring to chat with three of Gather’s senior teachers who have not only found success through the co-op model but have been instrumental in the studio’s success as a whole.
“It’s been a saving grace to have the community we’ve created. It truly feels like we’ve been able to preserve and maintain what made us fall in love with yoga in the first place,” said Josh Vincent, a lead teacher at Gather, who has been by Duke’s side since the early days at Yoga Swami. “Having the co-op model has allowed me the freedom to keep it about the yoga, which is what I’m most interested in. As a teacher, I have the ability to share what I want to share without feeling any pressure from the outside to teach a certain way.” This is particularly unique, as more and more teachers are managing the expectations of studio owners and corporate models that require classes to be taught in a certain way.
Libby Carstenson, a Kundalini teacher agrees. “Laying roots in a community like this has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever experienced,” said Carstenson. “We are evolving the narrative of yoga - every teacher is teaching from their direct experience and from an embodied and authentic space. As a result, there is a humility and accessibility in what is being offered.”
This is exactly what Aubrey Hackman says makes her excited to teach at Gather – the accessibility and sustainability it provides to both students and teachers. “As a practitioner, the sliding scale makes yoga accessible, she said. “As a teacher, your pay truly reflects your skill level. Gather gives me the platform to earn a real living and provide a service that most people can afford.”
Along with a full class schedule (28 classes per week) plus workshops and pop-up events on weekends, Gather offers massage and acupuncture; its sister space, Be Well, serves as a membership-based women’s co-working space during the week as well as an event space. Between the two spaces there are a full spectrum of workshop offerings, ranging from “This Is Your Brain on Yoga,” to the Wim Hof cold therapy method, writing workshops, and more. Thought leaders, wellness experts, entrepreneurs, artists, innovators, yogis, neuroscientists all join together to share their expertise on healing, self-discovery, and self-acceptance. “The goal is to offer various methodologies and tools to help people dive into their own consciousness and to navigate their lives so they can really be well,” said Duke. “After all, yoga is ultimately a path to help you live your life.”
