Eight hundred years ago, a powerful martial god— the god of wealth, luck and gambling— ascended.

After he was mortally wounded because of a selfless act in an intense battle to save his people, he ascended and his healing was personally seen to by the Heavenly Emperor himself.

This god, Hua Cheng, is as mysterious as he is powerful. Nobody knows where he came from, or what battle he was in that caused him to ascend.

Only a couple of centuries after he first ascended, Hua Cheng destroyed the lair of one of the four Heavenly Calamities, causing it to rain blood. He earned the title Crimson Rain Sought Flower when he used an umbrella to shield a lone flower from the bloodbath.

Now, he is as feared as he is revered. In some locations, he is respected and prayed to as an all powerful being. In others, he is a story to keep children in line. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, one thing is for certain:

HC's part of the prologue is here! it's a lot shorter than XL's, but that's because there's meant to be a lot more mystery surrounding him and his origins

also a clarifying note for if I do post the first few chapters of this fic in full: XL's calamity story is very well known, but I very deliberately didn't put his actual name in his story (and mentioned that it had been forgotten over time). this is why HC is confused and thought he hadn't heard of XL before (this is implied in the chapter 1 excerpt I posted)

meanwhile i may have read the entirety of tgcf from xl's perspective but i still apparently dont know him that well. is he catastrophizing and packing his little rucksack and running away? is he laughing? crying? both? calling yin yu ugly? like any strength he may have gotten from hua cheng's support... can he still hold himself up with it. maybe xie lian just also doesnt know. bye everyone im going to go hang out with qi rong and watch his relationship with the tiny baby he has in his care and think about corruption of morals. dont look for me OR is he staying until the bitter end just to be able to think he wont have done what mu qing and feng xin (feng xin rights btw. hope hes doing well in this situation) did sooo many years ago i just dont know

WHAT IS HE DOING!!!! many possibilities yeah i dont know whats most likely... hes been through the very depths of despair before and this is pretty bad but its not that.... what has his journey of self acceptance taught him? does he utterly despise himself or has he truly accepted the fact that he is flawed? maybe he is hiding from the world being dramatic about it and deciding he is lowly enough that the only persons company he is fit for is qr.... except i think after a day or two of that he might go actually no one deserves this (me projecting my never-ending qr hate campaign) im going to go face it and make it right. or maybe its more likely he would want to run and hide but would stay and try to work it out until it was clear it could not be worked out. but i think that aspect would depend on hc's reactions because he would be hurt and xl wouldnt want to hurt him and i think might eventually get upset with hc for neglecting his own feelings... feng xin rights soooooo true but more on him in the next ask :3
