the best acting in dunki is done by srk's hair, followed closely by vicky kaushal but unfortunately he vanishes off the script in about 5 seconds.

Finally watched Masaan. And god it breaks you down to your soul. And then says life goes on because you're still here. Your life is still yours even if it's hard right now.
For a movie to deal with grief it's a oddly comforting one. The songs the ghats the rawness are one of the reason. And of course thank gods for heartfelt actors.

I watched Dunki on the second day (sorry, i had to break the tradition of watching the first day first show cause depression won over), and it was underwhelming, to say the least.
So yes, there was a plot, but the execution sucked? I was not at all entertained nor moved by any of the reasons why these 3 wanted to go to London. None of the reasons felt pressing enough for them to undertake this extremely dangerous journey. I was moved only by Vicky Kaushal's backstory. But that was it. Neither has the movie utilised the actor Boman Irani, which was sad. None of the jokes landed for me. They were too cringe 😭 I also did not like Taapsee or SRK's performance (his acting sucked sorry he was overacting😭) but of course, SRK is a treat to watch on screen.
But I did like SRK's character, Hardy, tho. He reminded me of our kdrama oppas, and then it struck me that SRK has always given us oppa vibes!
I feel like one of the main reason Bollywood movies suck nowadays is because of the way they are executed. They just know how to fuck up a good plot with their extremely bad execution. But if you look at Jawan, directed by a South Indian, everything about it was top-notch. Even tho, one would say it really doesn't have a plot (I don't necessarily agree with this but ok), everything about it was executed reallly well - from cinematography, to backstory to songs, etc.
That being said, I'm extremely happy that SRK had a great year in terms of conquering the box office. I'm also very glad that I could watch all 3 of his movies at the cinemas this year (watched Pathaan and Jawan twice at the cinemas 😎). I also absolutely never care about plots if there's SRK, so even if continues to make shitty films, I'll always go watch it.
I'll miss him in 2024 😭

The predecessor of ‘Bad Newz’ was ‘Good Newwz’ which starred Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani. It was a laughter riot and at parts, emotional, too. The audience expected the same level of humour with this one, but did it meet the expectations? Let’s find out in this review.
Plot:
The topic that the director Anand Tiwari chose for this film was completely unexplored. The topic of Heteropaternal Superfecundation is something that hasn’t been touched upon by any Indian film before and the way it has been shown in the movie will make any layman understand it.
The film shows a woman to has twins from two different fathers simultaneously and how hilariously each father competes with each other to establish themselves as the better one.
Casting and Acting:
The film stars Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri and Ammy Virk in lead roles. Apart from that, Neha Dhupia, Neha Sharma, Sheeba Chadha and Ananya Pandey were seen in supporting roles. The performances were fine and the characters did the best of what they were given.
Songs:
The songs of the film are very catchy and trended on social media like ‘Jaanam’ and ‘Tauba Tauba’. The remake of ‘Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam’ was not that good.
Humour:
In a comedy film like ‘Bad Newz’, the humour matters a lot. There were some good jokes and self-roasting humour like Tripti’s character being labelled as ‘Bhabhi 2’ or ‘National Crush’ and comparing Akhil Chadha (Vicky Kaushal) to the actor’s other film ‘Manmarziyan’. However, most of the jokes were not that funny to make it a laughter riot, like it was in the previous film.
Direction, Screenplay and Cinematography:
The locations of the film are exquisite. The screenplay, direction and filmmaking are at par with the previous movie. The sets are also beautifully designed.

Dunki has been watched and I'm still under the haze.
How do you review a movie when you've gone beyond a common audience and start adoring the actor beyond the screen?
If I could still, it's a wholesome movie. There's no loose end to tie up at the end. It's a story that starts and ends, has been a long time since that happened for sure, with universes and sequels and what not.
So anyway, if you want to laugh at the silly jokes, which work btw, go watch Dunki.
If you want to see srk simp over a lady who stands on her own, go watch Dunki.
If you want to see a sad love story, go watch Dunki.
If you want to be amazed yet again by Vicky Kaushal, go watch Dunki.
I'll talk more later for sure, I'd have to gather myself for that.

DUNKI ( 2023 )
Tumblr media
As much as I had anticipated to watching the dream collaboration of Rajkumar Hirani & SRK, this was not what we deserved. The movie in itself is a good watch but being a Rajkumar Hirani film, it's a letdown.
The actors have done their performances well, especially SRK & Vicky Kaushal. The album of the movie was also really good. The comedy however was average but atleast the emotions tried to hit the right spots.
But addressing the elephant in the room, this would have been a good film but coming from Raju Hirani, the movie clearly lacked his touch. All Hirani movies have that element which makes them memorable but this film clearly lacked it.
The comedy from Hirani's previous ventures still stands out today and will in the future. But Dunki's comedy was totally off and in terms of giving a message, the film tries to buy but it doesn't come out well.
The actors did their part well based on the script but it was the script that needed improvement. But the movie is still a good watch. But I hope to see Hirani & SRK coming together again in the future with something better🤞✌️

I didn't feel like making this post to Letterboxd. In December of last year, I met the ICONIC Anurag Kashyap along with the actors of film he'd come to promote at IIT Bombay for Moodi. The film was obviously Almost Pyaar. The culture surrounding the film was woven through 7 years of finding its footing through financing, pre-production and shooting. The music as much as the film fails to grasp the roots of Gen Z media. Maybe the film is made for the masses, but this isn't a Gen Z film by any standards.
Gen Z here has been portrayed as the shallowest form with no personality beyond the grasp of social media. I don't know, maybe it is that Alaya F plays a minor in both iterations of her role which shows her shallow nature due to her immaturity. The bits where they tried to show her true nature against her own characterization fell short because they felt like an afterthought. I don't remember what either of Karan's characters are called but I remember asking myself whether I relate to him on any level being a Gen Z man. The answer was a resounding No. I don't relate to any of the characters in either timeline. The most interesting character DJ Mohabbat brilliantly played by Vicky Kaushal wasn't in any of the promotions or material till the release. Only Kaushal felt like the only actor in this film who was trying to make do with what he got.
I feel like Kashyap with this film was trying to understand a generation that he clearly hasn't been able to. Maybe it's the young people of today who are to be blamed for this heinous film. But I'd say Kashyap's lack of form in recent years - trying to make films for a new generation might be another of the reasons he isn't able to work out a proper strategy.
Anurag, I know you're never gonna see this. But if you do, check your Instagram dms. I asked you out to movie date. Pls response -><- thanks for reading.
