Across the Bay 10k

The Across the Bay 10k is a race that takes you over the famed Chesapeake Bay bridge from Annapolis to Kent Island. It is a nice course with one big hill up and over the bridge. The race is the 6th largest 10k in the country. Which is awesome because this only the second year the event has been held. The weather was a little cool, but still very mild for the first week of November. I started off in Wave 1 and set new personal record for a 10k. I almost came in under the 47:00 mark. Missed it by just 4 seconds. The race is extremely well organized and offers a nice after party and free high resolution race photos. Out of the 21,000 finishers, I came in 683rd. 60th in my age group out of 984. I felt really good during the run got to have the very unique experience of running across the four mile long, 182 foot high bay bridge. I recommend this race for its uniqueness.

Across the Bay 10K - 11/06/2016

It was my second year doing this race and Lorelie’s third year (I missed last year because I was sick). This race isn’t so much of a race for us, but rather a leisurely 10K run across the eastbound span of the Bay Bridge, with plenty of opportunities to take in the views and take pictures.

It’s definitely a race worth doing if you’re in the area. It’s the only time of the year that they let people go across the bridge on foot, so it’s a rare opportunity. The race itself is pretty well organized, too. From the designated parking areas, to the shuttles to the start, the corrals, and the finish area. (The race director is Dave McGillivray, who is the RD for the Boston Marathon, and the race was recently acquired by Ironman, apparently. So, I expect the race to continue to be well organized in the years go come.)

One of the coolest things about the race is that the medals, so far, have fit into each other like puzzle pieces. Lorelie has all three years of medals so far and it looks like they’ll have at least two more years of puzzle piece medals. We’re looking forward to completing the collection!
