HELLO! a year ago i went on what is now a permanent tumblr hiatus except i dont want to completely abandon my sideblogs so im trying to experiment with coming back to them in a healthy way. in going through the drafts on this sideblog i came across this mostly finished post and decided i wanted to continue this series so here we are! eagle - hamster was written by my november 2022 self and my december 2024 self endorses her opinions lol. everything from hippo onward is written by current me!

FAVORITE VILLAGERS BY DESIGN — PART 2

eagle: AMELIA!

there’s a reason this girl is / was one of my dreamies and earliest islanders!!!! I LOVE THIS GIRL i love her name i LOVE her colors and pattern i love her general aura (and that’s not even getting at her personality lol)!!! she is a queen and a near-permanent resident of madeira 😌💓

honorable mention:

buzz — his design is rly simple but i love the lighter accents on the edges of his feathers! a cool lookin guy

elephant: BIG TOP!

this one actually surprised me bc im not the hugest fan of the action outfit villagers!! i just think big top is super cute i love his colors and his eye shape.. he just has a lot of character to me! like a shy / more reserved guy who is finding his confidence by being part of the team and doing… whatever it is the action villagers do lol

honorable mentions:

opal — one of my original acnl villagers! she is very pretty :D

dizzy — everyone’s favorite little guy!

paolo — ive always thought he’s a cutie hehe. more rikkakuma vibes w those eyebrows

frog: CROQUE!

i rly love how simple but also like. Unique croque’s design is! the yellow details and then the white little mask thing just looks rly cool. he has a lot of character i like him :D

henry — exudes good energy w his calm yet knowing facial expression!

drift — rly cool colors and patterns. i love the gradient thing he’s got going on

puddles — simple and yet so off-putting in a good way! she gives me like.. bunnie vibes and i really like it

goat: BILLY!

a former islander of mine!! i really love billy’s warm colors and i think his face is really cute! (it gives me memini (my starsona LOL) vibes :D i also just really like his hair i think it fits him rly well! i want to ruffle his little head lol

honorable mentions:

chevre — SO close to beating out billy but i just like his colors more LOL. i think she’s really cute and i also like her memini eyes / mouth too!

pashmina — this girl looks SO gorgeous. i love her eyes and her coloration! (also side note the goats have the most insane cheekbones that like bulge out from their face at a certain angle. my cheekbones kinda look like that too it’s almost alien like lol and i love it)

gorilla: HANS!

i have this guy on my new leaf town!! i love his eyes and his nose and i think his colors are so cool. my giant yeti <3

no honorable mentions for this one bc i don’t rly like any of the other gorilla villagers 😅 sorry

hamster: SOLEIL!

this gal is GORGEOUS!!!! i love her mismatched ears and her white mouth, i think her colors are just super cool and the placement of them is rly effective on her design! i just said billy gives me memini vibes and well… soleil gives me pepe (my um… cat. sona. sorry) vibes 🤩 also her eyes are just so cool looking and a rly gorgeous color!

honorable mentions:

hamlet — just an all around good hamster! he looks VERY similar to a friend of mine named steven (like same hair eyes facial feature placement everything LOL) so i always want to call him steven but no… his name is hamlet!

marlo — i just like his colors and aesthetic!

truly just because his huge eyes are SO cute but i really love this guy 😭 he reminds me of the pigeon from those mo willems books i used to love as a kid

honorable mention:

rocco -- i have him on BOTH wild world and city folk (which i have started playing since i last used this blog)! i love his seafoam green color and i think his eyes are very interesting :~D

horse: PAPI!

this one is SO hard i love so many of the horse villagers' designs 😭 but okapis are so beautiful and i think papi's design very creatively captures their most beautiful features! ngl i also may be HEAVILY swayed by his default outfit choice in acnh... that striped sweater could not be more perfect for him. obsessed.

honorable mentions (there are MANY!):

buck -- i love his green color! and theres something about his eyes on top of the eye spots... idk. i love it

reneigh -- THE cool girl!! i think her coloring is so gorgeous... the black / brown / blue / silver go so well together. i especially love the gradients from her hooves up her legs and her eyelashes!

victoria -- i feel like she gets a lot of hate but i really like her! she reminds me of my horse girl days 🤪 and i feel like her colors go really well together but i may be biased because i love yellow and reddish-brown horses were some of my favorites growing up

roscoe -- KING. i feel like i see him on a lot of artsy / funky islands so i have a really positive association with him bc of that! he reminds me of a chess piece. i love him so much. he used to be on my new leaf island. also i cant embed the recording of it but one time when i was villager hunting and talking to orville on the dock trying to leave he wandered onto the dock just to stand right next to me <3

kangaroo: KITT!

i dont loooove the kangaroo villagers (both design wise and model wise) but i do think kitt is my favorite! i really love the spots around her eyes and her natural coloration! her baby is so cute WAHHHH

honorable mentions:

astrid -- i love primary colors and i think hers are really nice :~) i dont loveee her eye style / shape but it's passable!

marcie -- i think her eyes are really interesting esp in combination with her lack of a snout. she looks like a completely different creature and i love it

koala: ALICE!

this one was genuinely SOOOOOO hard because there are so few koala villagers i do not like design-wise (and just in general). koala villagers on the whole are SO underrated imo!!! but... alice is tabby-level weird and i LOVE her for that. i think the fact that she looks human-adjacent is so interesting and creative. im especially obsessed with her nose and the stripes in her hair!

honorable mentions:

lyman -- i was SO close to picking this king as my favorite koala design... like so close that i debated cheating so that i could say he and alice are tied. i think his eyebrows are just so neat and i LOVE his color combination so much!

yuka -- she's one of my dreamies tbh 😭 she is so so beautiful... her smile and her nose are just so satisfying to me! and i love the blue!

faith -- another human-adjacent koala i really like! i think the little hood design on her head is really cool and interesting!

gonzo -- i JUST got this guy on acnh! his little pink ears are so cute to me idk 😭 he looks like a mouse and i love him for that

sydney -- this girl is a SWEETHEART. she's on my city folk town and i truly could not find her more charming. she just radiates happiness with her little pink cheeks and her big smile!

I have nothing against Opal, but man! Oh, man! I’m super shocked by how much worse she looks in New Leaf compared to Pocket Camp, which has much better textures. Here, she just looks muddy, like there’s some kind of weird dithering on her face with multiple shades of green. I don’t think that there is, of course, and I don’t think the lighting in the tent is doing her any favors.

Happy Birthday Opal! 

This snooty elephant has been in every game to date, and she gets her name from the opal, a multicolored gem that’s a reference to both her snooty personality and her unique coloring! She has the fashion hobby, and she’ll often be found carrying her favorite purse or supporting the local businesses with her shopping! She’s skilled at memorizing, and one day she wants to be a doctor! She loves blue mountain coffee with tons of milk and sugar, and her favorite song is KK Cruisin! Wish her a very happy birthday, snoot!

My niece is 5, and like many kids her age, she likes to draw.

Last night she was kind of bored at Thanksgiving which, yeah I don't blame her. So I said to her "hey do you want to go draw pictures with me?" and she was all for it. She had her paper and I had my tablet.

She asked me how my tablet worked, so I do what I usually do and write "Hello" and a smiley face. Well now she wanted to try my tablet. She's a gentle kid so I was fine with it.

I even showed her really basic stuff with clip studio paint. like drawing on it, zooming in, and picking colors. Whenever she wanted to draw something else, I just made a new layer for her and hid the other drawing.

I have the Rolf amiibo card, and a friend wanted a photo so she could check if a card she saw online was authentic. Well, my niece took a liking to the card, and she was gonna draw Rolf. Then she said she didn't know how to draw him. I set the card next to her and I said "draw what you see."

So here is my Niece's drawing of Rolf, with creative liberties.

she gave him yellow glasses so I guess I should get a pair for him in the game. Let's be real here, I think if she grows older and wants to continue drawing, she has potential. She even tried to add detail like the dots in his shirt and the stripes on his head and legs.

She also asked me to draw Rolf, but that's not important.

I’ve been seeing a lot of Eloise in Pocket Camp lately, for some reason, and so seeing Opal feels a little strange. The two look so similar, despite their radically different colors. I mean, they both have the painted-on bangs and the side mouth and the colored tips on their trunks. I guess that’s... actually all they have in common. And that they have literally the exact same model for their bodies, but if I were to harp on that, I’d have to call out my eight cat villagers for the same thing, and I won’t do that.
