week 2 initial

After the first week of playing around with the guitar structure to my song i came up with a solid chorus and verses that i will stick to, im happy with the rhythm and a lot of ideas come to mind from this. I have now been able to focus on the drumming for the tune and am in the process of perfecting a beat that i think fits the song well since this is my favourite and preffered instrument to play i can be overcritical of my playing so it will take the longest to finish. I have started writing lyrics for the song now and have a chorus im happy with and one verse, i still need another verse or two i havent decided on that yet. I want to learn new fills for this track and show technical development in my playing ,this is essential not only for grading on the course but for my mental state to i need to see improvement in order to stay motivated. I am also still learning to play to a metronome i have always been confident in my timing but i now realise that sometimes with out a metronome timing can become loose and off slightly, i want to devolop my timing to the best of my ability to ensure an advantage when venturing into different career opportunities. This song will be a studio recording using pro tools an possibly easy drummer incase i do not have the equipment i need to record with my acoustic kit in time for the due date. This will be the first time i will record one of my original songs so i hope to gain an insight into the skills needed to record and edit music, with each song i record i hope to better my recording and editing skillset. I will also be adding playing to a metronome to my skillset as i dont usually do this but for this song i want my timing to be on point and for future assignments. We talked about resilience in are recent webinar and id like to apply what we talked about to this assignment, we talked about overcoming mental struggles and that is something i try to work on everyday so using the things we talked about will help. I plan to have a practice routine in place shortly to keep me motivated to play the kit and see improvement, i also try to listen to music when doing any type of work i would normally struggle with or put off and it helps a lot i will continue to do so. There is many gaps in my knowledge when it comes to recording and editing music this is one of the many reasons i joined the course i hope to fill enough of these gaps over the next few week so that i can record and edit my own songs with out a lot of help for future assignments. I also need to learn how and where to position the drum mics if i am to record my accoustic kit for this song i do look forward to that.

jeremy messersmith - accoustic indie pop, very sweet and morbid-melancholy, which is of course one of my favorite combinations. 

the Colony Collapse EP - five remixes of a beautiful dubstep/gamelan collaboration between a Los Angeles electronica artist and an Indonesian rapper! it’s this absolutely GORGEOUS intricate metallic orchestra of gongs, chimes, and vocals.

Jookabox - BIZARRE? there’s only one album and one collection of remixes on their bandcamp - i don’t know how to describe it so i’m going to borrow some words from their own page - folk-tinged, Kafkaesque, paranoid images of decay, worms, flies, and slime. i dig it so hard.

TOO MANY ZOOZ - you guys know this video of two cool dudes absolutely playing their hearts out on saxophone and drum kit in union square? that’s 2/3 of TOO MANY ZOOZ and they go HARD AS HELL. it’s some of the best instrumental pump-up music i have.
