Acacius Sapphirius - 7th Year (1947-48)

Who's surprised that Acacius Romeo Sapphirius is my first drawing of the year? You shouldn't be if you know anything about me. Anyways. He was just a little nerd in school. Little wimpy nerd who followed Abraxas Malfoy around like a lost puppy. No one guessed he'd end up brutally murdering his own father a month or so after his graduation, oops.

THE A-SQUAD

So, the A-Squad is a group of 8 pureblood men who were at Hogwarts in Slytherin House in the 1941/1942 schoolyears. And they all have names that start with A, because I will in fact do anything and everything for the lols.

Acacius "Caci" Sapphirius

We all know who he is, but before he was the suave and sexy Lord of House Sapphirius, he was a fucking nerd who did everyone's homework and didn't know what do with himself at parties. He was really on that grind back then- but to be fair, he still is (I mean he runs a PUBLISHING company for goodness' sake, he's just also a beast.

Abraxas "Brax" Malfoy

Lucius' father, and before he was the refined King of Prudes and an arbiter of Tradition™️, he was even more wild than his son and partied like hell after winning Qudditch games as Slytherin's best seeker. He was also very much the leader of the A-Squad, initiating all of the mischief and mayhem and getting all the girls. Nowadays he's missing his wife and pretending his male best friend cough acacius isn't still in love with him.

Aloysius "Al" Potter

Fleamont Potter's brother/Harry Potter's gruncle, Al represents what the Potters used to stand for: Pureblood pride and great (but wild) hair. He absolutely despises his brother's side of the family but couldn't do much about it as Monty was older and the heir. In his schooldays, Al put all of his hens into Arithmancy and Divination, determined to become incredibly good at predicting and interpreting stocks. He never played Quidditch but he and Seven (to be introduced) would bet on the games... of which Al usually won.

Avery "Seven" Avery VII

Seven is the, well, seventh in a direct line of Avery Averys. Morally he's probably the most a'ight out of this whole group, but he's got a wicked gambling addiction that started in his schooldays and continued looong into adulthood. Acacius as he is now appreciates his friendship enough to continue "lending" him money (Seven never pays him back). He's incredible at poker and holds his alcohol far better than you'd anticipate.

Aspen "Penny" Flack

Penny's the great-something grandson of Minister Flack. He's always been a rather quiet person despite going along with Brax and the rest of the squad's antics with decent enthusiasm. His best class was Herbology and nowadays he, well, works for Acacius, managing the gardens of his Estate. The Flacks were never incredibly wealthy but they were pure enough for the Squad and he's pretty content in his job.

Artimus "Artie" Blackbird

So, for context: The Blackbirds are my "I need a name for this character" family. They're very large and extend far across the UK Wizarding World because one Minister Credence Blackbird got the fuck around and had so many bastards that Charles II would be proud. Artie, however, insists that his line was not a bastard one, and will get very annoyed if you try to say otherwise. He's definitely the most flamboyant of the squad (although all of them wear makeup to some degree, it's just a pureblood men thing) and is Acacius' son Augustus-Timber's favorite "uncle". He did play Quidditch and was abysmal at it, only on the team as a way to pick up girls. At heart, though, he was a performer, and he's made a great deal of money performing and traveling the world... on top of the generational wealth.

Albert "Bert" Rosier

Bert, Evan Rosier's father, was the Crabbe/Goyle to Brax's Draco back in the day. Absolute beast of a Quidditch player who grew into an absolute unit of a man. He was a great soldier for the Death Eaters until, y'know, Voldemort died and he ended up in Azkaban! When he breaks out, he will not let his son's sacrifice be in vain.

Alvin "Vinnie" Taylor

The Taylor family is one of those that has been around for a while but wasn't considered to be "Sacred" because of how common a muggle surname it is. Vinnie will take every excuse to winge about how his House was snubbed. He did the announcing for Quidditch games back in school but he also starred in several school plays, and now he's an actor in the Wizarding equivalent of the West End, being quite successful in that endeavor.

Extra Notes:

For how large the Squad is, they're all obviously not gonna be super close. By adulthood they've barely kept in contact through Acacius' efforts.

Not all of them joined the DE, but Acacius, Abraxas, Seven, and Bert did.

They all have kids, but I haven't fully figured them out besides Acacius and Abraxas 💀

Abraxas has a brother who's Xenophilius' dad

Al thinks Harry Potter is a joke

Abraxas ALSO did theatre but wasn't nearly as dedicated as Vinnie and preferred musicals

Acacius is so bad at singing that it hurts but he would do Shakespeare whenever they put it on

Like everything else on the Estate, the rose garden was blue. Every petal on every blossom bore some shade of the color. Orion briefly wondered if Acacius had commissioned some breed that grew naturally that way. Knowing how well-off the Sapphiriuses were, that explanation was equal in likelihood to the idea that the roses simply had Colovaria cast upon them. However, as he stepped further onto the path between the plants, the Black patriarch’s attention was not on the flowers themselves.

Floating above it all was Juliet Sapphirius - or perhaps Dragna? - herself. Sunrays fell through her translucent figure and lit up the bushes behind her. Out of everything blue on this damned property, she was the only thing that didn’t give Orion a headache. He��d almost call her a headache reliever, for that matter. All of the pressure in his cranium melted away when they were alone together.

He was smiling when she finally noticed his presence.

“I knew you’d need a bathroom break eventually,” she teased, a grin spreading upon her freckled face. It was his favorite excuse- mostly because it was the only one Walburga couldn’t completely lambast him for. And it was never a lie. Orion always ended up legitimately relieving himself. The only thing he was dishonest about was where he would go when he was done.

What the mistress doesn’t know, the mistress doesn’t mind.

“Well, yes,” Orion admitted, clasping his hands behind his back as he stepped forward. “Had to drink a little more than usual– I’m burning up in these robes.” A strange and morbid benefit to being around his dead friend was the removal of the necessity for a cooling spell. Ghosts made everything in the surrounding area cold, after all. Which was admittedly ironic, considering the woman next to him.

Juliet frowned a little, looking him up and down. “Surely Burga allows at least one summer outfit?”

“This is the summer outfit,” Orion lamented. “Believe me, there would normally be three layers.” He pulled apart his topcoat to demonstrate that there was nothing but a dress shirt underneath. “This only has two.”

From Madness of Memories and What Could Have Been:

Apparently, it was up to Kingsley to tell her everything and ask the final question. Despite Ron's vague assurances, it still felt like a guillotine waiting above her head, swaying in the breeze.

She'd been so self-absorbed— as much as it hurt to realise— to notice what was going on in the world around her besides the papers that crossed her desk. Sure, she knew about the plight of hags who were attempting to integrate into society now that they had Moonshine's potion, that relations with centaurs and merfolk were tense, and that werewolves were facing some of the worst persecution in the past thirty years.

She hadn't known how fragile Kingsley's position as Minister for Magic was. That her divorce was finalised amidst sweeping reforms to magical law that was barely popular in the first place. That it was already chaffing the purebloods that their power over the Ministry was being challenged. Didn't realise that the claims of muggleborns attacking magical tradition were part of a broader argument being picked up by unsettled purebloods.

How Travers and Doyle treated her during the husting made more sense now. They had been leaning into the public unrest and distrust of the new reforms. Using the growing bigotry to encourage the judges to let the pureblood Weasleys pursue 'better' marriages away from 'lesser' blood. Framing their marriages to feed the bias of how Harry and Hermione weren't worthy spouses.

Used it to paint her as little more than an animal, because that's what half of the judges wanted to believe.

A lump rose up in her throat memories howled at her, but she wasn't going to face them. Not now. Not now. She shoved the observation room of the husting back to it's dark corner of the Ministry in her mind.

Acacius Romeo Sapphirius

So I got sick on technically the 20th (of September) but it really hit me the 21st. Which was frustrating to me, because I'd just gotten back into a mental state of productivity. But after I'd gotten actual sleep, I decided on the 22nd for some ungodly reason to embark upon finally putting together a proper full-body design for my favorite character of all time. The second ungodly decision that I made was to, some extent, paper-doll this reference. 11 hours of work straight the first day cemented for me that I could not simply just… give up on this project, like so many others.

It is now the 25th. I don't know how many hours I've worked on this. I slept a lot in between. I am still sick. But it is done. My magnum opus, my love, my life.

For today's question- Amortentia! What would it smell like for your ocs? Who are they attracted to that makes it smell that way?

AND, on the other end, what would someone smell if they were attracted to your ocs?

If memory serves, one of your ocs is also on the aromantic spectrum, so what do you think they would smell, or just an aromantic person in general tbh, if they don't really experience romantic attraction?

GOD OKAY I'M SO EXCITED TO ANSWER THIS I LOVE BEING ABLE TO TALK ABOUT MY AMORTENTIA HCs (I would draw something for this but alas I am working tirelessly on... a couple different comics actually 💀 Why did I do this to myself 💀)

So, important to note, the way I interpret and therefore write Amortentia is that it's, well, bad. Magic can't create real feelings and it ends up being more akin to... liquid Imperius, if that makes sense. The reason you smell what you're attracted to is because it's sort of preying on a more biological level again if that makes sense. This however does not make Aro/Ace people immune to it, it just... well, you'll see lol. As much as I enjoy the HCs that the potion could smell like... power, for example, unfortunately I'm married to the more dangerous interpretation

BUT I LIKE BEING ABLE TO USE THE SMELL AS A FUN CHARACTER THING! Although admittedly I struggle to conceptualize smells sometimes, so def making me think again!/pos

What he smells: Griffon spit, citrus, wet dog (I love Poppy but tell me that's not what she smells like)

What he smells LIKE: Cabbage rose (supposedly a very expensive perfume back in that era was made out of it), that "new clothes" smell, parchment

Breezy:

What she smells: Peanut butter, sunshine, gazelle musk

What she smells LIKE: Smoke, treacle, lavender, and like... oak-y idk why

Lily-Athena: SINCE THOUST INQUIRED

What she smells: Nothing. Genuinely, nothing. I have an outdated little doodle from pre-revamp where she's not particularly polite in how she conveys this fact during the 6th year potions lesson with Slughorn 💀

What she smells LIKE: Potion fumes, leather, antiseptics, notably cinnamon

Acacius: SINCE I CAN

What he smells: rose, setting spray, goat milk (do not question this 💀), whatever tf a thestral smells like (death, perhaps?)

What he smells LIKE: rose, mint, alcohol, that metallic smell you get when you touch a piece of jewelry (because of all of his rings and whatnot)
