my superpower is relating the song i’m your man to any and every fictional character or pairing to exist. coriolanus snow? yep. maven calore? one hundred percent. arthur lester and john doe? definitely. jonathan sims? YUP. my own oc’s? of course. it simply works with everything i fear.

i come back to say that maven's back had to be somewhat arched in that bathtub scene. he did not take his heat suppressants or something. because like what was that.

Was trying to think of the reason of the Love Triangle between the boys and Mare and I think I got something down lol.
— Kilorn is the representation of Mare’s life as a Red and of her past, being the reason why she’s so overprotective and constantly wanting to keep him safe. But also not wanting to pursue him romantically because her life as a Red was horrible, and because of how much hatred he harbors for Silvers and that of the unknown (back when he found out she’s a Newblood and didn’t react positively). Her rejecting Kilorn is a milestone for her, refusing to let her hatred and anger of Silvers and of her identity as a Newblood consume her.
— Maven represents War and the present, a person she is afraid of becoming because of the similar circumstances they were both brought into. They were used and turned into people neither of them wanted to be, making Mare afraid that she’s capable of becoming just as bad of a person. Because of war shes made to change, forced to do things she doesn’t like. She pursues him at the start because it’s easy to find comfort in war and anger, especially when it’s painted with rose tinted glasses. But through the series she shows distress in Maven, each time distancing herself from him. In a way, killing Maven signified letting go of the war. That it doesn’t define her.
— Lastly Cal, being Peace and the future. From the very start we see Cal as someone soothing, the person who hears Mare out and offers her the job position in Summerton. Mare is hesitant to seek him out romantically and at times loathes him, but he is also the only other person who understands her. Cal had constantly shown support and compassion to both Silvers, Reds, and Newbloods through the series (showing distaste when Mare kills Silvers, sneaking out at night into red villages to be a better king, etc.) He is a constant warming presence for her, even if she doesn’t seek it. Though Mare sometimes clashes with peace, as getting it is not easy by no means. In order to achieve peace sacrifices have to be made, and you have to let go of war. Seeking Peace in the midst of War can be hard, especially when you’ve faced so much tragedy. Coming to terms to it after war’s over is even harder. But in the end, Peace is what she needs the most to overcome the trauma and grief. It’s the one she stays with by choosing Cal.

something in my soul is touched when i reread the scene in war storm where maven goes to mare's stilts home and destroys it
it feels like he was in mourning, you know? because he had lost her. he lost her so so many times, but she was so close to him THIS time and she slipped right between his fingers like cupped water.
and it specifically feels like mourning because maven calore didn't feel love. all he ever felt was loss and the idea of love that was more leaned toward obsession. so instead of mourning in sadness and depression like he did with thomas, he mourned with rage and destruction with mare.

okay so if i may be ill for a second here. because the calore brothers will always bring it out in me. the fact that cal tried so hard for maven and maven like to talk big but when it came to actually killing cal he couldn't. bc cal loved him so much, and even if maven couldn't even love him back in the same way because elara literally twisted love in his mind.... maven still cared. It might not have been love but whatever it was it was enough for him to still care. and if that doesn't make you go insane about brotherly bonds then i don't fucking know what.
another thing too is that maven was literally cast aside, a shadow. tiberias vi was indifferent to him at best, julian openly hated him, elara wanted to carve him into a perfect heir to get one up on coriane EVEN AFTER she killed her with her own two hands.
cal one the other hand was brought up to be perfect and placed expectation on him by not only his father but the whole court who were watching him like hawks
NEITHER of them had their own agency. it's just that cal's actually gave him a chance to gain a more positive outlook and maven's only choice was to be cynical.
when maven did try, thomas was killed and he lost his ability to love. LIKE!!??!?! TO LOVE
and cal still tried his fucking hardest to love him, despite. and even if it wasn't enough to save maven in the end, it was enough to grant cal the mercy of not killing his brother with his own hands.

red queen taking place after the 6th mass extinction event has me so unhinged and feral like,,,
its about the underlying theme of being undone down to your base essentials and than remade entire by circumstances out of your control. its about stumbling out the other end, having miraculously survived the horrors done to you but being unable to recognize the person looking back.
its about how humanities hubris will always guide us down the same paths and corridors. how our base components and nature will always ripple across time even as the knowledge of those that came before us is lost.
and what of the great blood divide? how many times were those that bridged the gap unraveled and sewn back together by the massive amounts of radiation they were subjected to until they emerged with silver blood and abilities? How many succumbed to radiation sickness? How long did it take?
How long did humanity claw themselves across the ground of their forefathers failings before they learned how to walk again and how long until they repeat it?
i need to know of the calamities, i need to know what domino fell first. what happened afterwards, How the blood divide happened. Was the Silver’s creation violent and cruel? to mirror the natural, 1500 year evolution of the New bloods? were they made from those in poverty left to die to the radiation, to circumstances they had no control over but managed to somehow survive in spite of it? to mirror the Silvers treatment of Reds now?
was Cal’s arc the radiation? was it the explosion that shattered the windows and cracked the pavement? was it about the unmaking of everything youve ever known to pave a path for it to be remade for those who come after? was it feeling yourself come undone, feeling your dna unraveled, your cells torn apart and Surviving but seeing someone else staring back at you in the mirror? that the blood and ash is still on your hands but the person who stares back is not who you were before. he is scarred and scared but Better, kinder with gentle hands that will hold the world aloft, to help pave a way for those who can fix it, To fix it because he has Learned where his ideals and duty would have lead through his own unmaking.
was Maven’s arc the ruined cities? a place once full of joy and sorrow, of music fluttering through the windows, the smell of paint that clings to some people, the gentle noise of people typing as they write novels and essays and chat with their friends, of people walking and talking, of everything humanity was and now it is nothing more than a hollow city full of the echo of ghosts. A place left to decay and crumble beneath the tragedy brought by those that promised to protect it. A place that is seen as unsalvageable but only needs time to heal. Plants and vines climb up through the cracks, leaving a promise and echo that it Can heal. That it could have healed.
and was Mare’s arc the aftermath? was it the stubbornness and determination to stand on to shaky legs, to look out upon a world ripped apart and left in ruin and choosing to fix it, for yourself and for all those who will come after you? was it about pulling together a community left to die, to rebuild all that was lost, to heal the world and yourselves with gentle seeking hands and promising to do better? you came out bearing scars and cracks, searing memories of the terrible things done to you and choosing to take a trembling step forward even as the earths crust shakes beneath your will. You have had terrible things done to you time and time again but still you loved and still you chose to stand up on your own or reach for outstretched hands. You are scarred and you see yourself as unfixable but your community and family do not and they will give you the things you need and the time to patch yourself up until your tremors stop and your waters settle, until the sun is blanketed by your ozone and made gentle and kind again, until your raging storms become kind bouts of rain. They will wait for you to be okay again, and they know you will never be the same and they will love you through everything. They will stand with and beside you until the end of time. are you the aftermath of humanity or are you the earth’s embodiment?

What do y'all imagine being the catalyst for Thomas's death? I've seen some people say it was started by Maven in the ~throes of passion~ but I tend to think it was more of a heated (no pun intended) arugment. But what were they fighting ab? I've been toying with the idea of writing a fic but idk how to go about it. Is it obvious? Am I dumb? Or was that left ambiguous on purpose? Victoria help.

no Maven was actually crazy for getting in Cal’s face screaming shit about “You killed the king you killed our father!” after Elara just forced him to while he was begging her to stop like truly one of his more batshit moments if i do say so

If I had a nickel for every time I read a book with a prince named Tiberius who had a brother who was engaged to a girl who was in love with someone else and said brother ended up betraying the girl and holding her captive in some way I would have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

IN THE END IT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE MAVEN AND CAL. YOU GET IT RIGHT? IT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE CAIN AND ABEL. MAVEN WAS NEVER GOING TO GET BACK AT CAL. CAL WAS NEVER GOING TO SAVE MAVEN.
MAVEN WOULD NEVER KILL CAL. CAL WOULD NEVER KILL MAVEN. THEIR HANDS ARE FREE OF THEIR BROTHER'S BLOOD FOREVER.
CAL TRIED TO SAVE HIM. BUT IT WOULD NEVER BE ENOUGH. MAVEN TRIED TO LOVE HIM. BUT IT WAS NEVER ENOUGH.
TRAPPED BY THE FUCKING NARRATIVE. THERE WAS NO WAY OUT! DON'T YOU GET IT?!?
IT WOULD NEVER BE ENOUGH!!!!!!!!
