Something i find oddly funny is Studio Orange’s Twitter. HNK is like their redheaded step child that they actively just ignore despite numerous people asking how they’ve been doing. They’ll post a lot of their other stuff and like supportive comments, but then they pretend that HNK never existed, despite the show being asked for for every post they make and HNK being their big break. But to be fair, if they liked a bunch of comments regarding HNK, people would assume that they are hinting for a second season.
I mean, yeah, I think it's a complicated issue?
On the one hand, the HnK anime was pretty influential for orange, it's their first major adaptation before they were known for Beastars, and I'd say it's a pretty good success (putting aside criticisms from people who would've preferred HnK to be a 2d anime). It's a solid project and I genuinely think it made them grow a lot. That's why they bring it up every so often, even if it's getting a lot less relevant as time goes on and they have new projects and new challenges to look forward to.
But yknow what isn't cool? When people remember you for one (1) thing you made, and refuse to acknowledge anything other than that. I'm not saying it's the case for EVERYBODY who follows them, but im gonna keep it real with you, i always purposefully dodge the replies on orange's tweets because EVERY time HnK is brought up, it's on a tweet that's totally unrelated to the series. And it ranges from curious, innocent comments like "what about HnK s2?" to replies that are a lot more accusatory and sometimes attack the studio for prioritizing other projects.
And like. This is batshit insane to me for so many reasons, like, it's not NECESSARILY orange's choice to make a second season or not. There's so many reasons why it could not work: Ichikawa deciding the anime doesn't embody what she imagined and she isn't interested in seeing more of it, or maybe she doesn't want it to be adapted until the manga fully ends. Or maybe it was never meant to get a second season and it was just a way to promote the manga. There's like 1000 reasons why S2 might not happen that do NOT involve orange, not to mention, they DID say back then that they would be happy to work on more HnK things. So, yeah, I can certainly see why they'd stay away from a series they worked on 5 years ago, if any reference to it had the potential to get people riled up even though orange, as a studio, can't just manifest a new season out of nowhere.
And EVEN if orange was somehow responsible for a second season not happening, well. That's still not a reason to be disrespectful to their other projects honestly! It's a good thing they keep making really good anime. Constantly reminding them of something they made a while ago isn't gonna help, I'm sure
