The boys asked me, “Can you stay with us? And what you’ve talked about, building up the voice.. can we do that?” So I did, I went on the X Factor tour with them - it was five weeks. And I made the five of them a schedule, one hour each. And we then worked every day at the hotels. They’d come in and I’d have time to build up their voices. Because they were so young - the voice is not at all fully developed - so you needed to be careful. And after that I was with them from the beginning to the end. I actually only finished this year, with Louis. He was the last of my boys. I then helped them in their solo careers, to get them ready, get their bands ready, and be there with them in the beginning. So that’s Louis.. he got set back due to Corona and the death of his mother, tragic circumstances. This year I finished [the voice work] with him, as the last one. So it's all great, they're all self-reliant now, and.. what is it you say, touch wood, that none of them have lost their voices. Once you build it built up, you can't really lose it. You may get tired, but you can't lose it. At least now they know how… or they can call me. But they’ve got this.
Helene Hørlyck talking about working with the One Direction boys from the X Factor and onto the launch of their solo careers.

Streaming off that many devices is more absurd than immoral. There’s no way that wouldn’t be flagged as bot behaviour and excluded. The reality is that a relative handful of obsessed fans from a mid tier artist like Louis aren’t taking money out of the pockets of smaller artists. Louis’s streaming numbers show a normal pattern of use. The numbers are high in the first week and then decline because that is how fans have always reacted to new music from their favourite artists. (1/3)
The elephant you never want to acknowledge is that the handful of top tier artists like Harry are making obscene profits at the expense of smaller artists. They always have but streaming structures have exacerbated that. They don’t even do it primarily for the money either. They do it for the prestige of awards and kudos. (2/3)
It’s the same with dynamic pricing too. You could sell five other tickets for the average price of one of Harry’s tickets. It’s even worse for some artists. Top tier artists sucking up the majority of people’s disposable income will prevent other artists from touring. I wonder how they justify the choice to put other artists out of work. (3/3)
*******
So there are a couple of things I want to say to this.
The first is that all members of 1D, including Louis, are among the handful of aritsts who are making very good living from streaming. 1D is still making them a lot of money and they're all doing well enough out of streaming to be in the very top tier of artists. The idea that Louis is a 'mid-tier' streaming artist - shows that your understanding of the music industry has already cut out most musicians. If you're going to try and talk about the music industry, please learn about the wider range of artists who are either on the brink of making a living, or would have been able to make a living in the past.
I don't think it helps people understand the industry to compare dynamic pricing to streaming. Streaming is literally a zero sum game. There is a finite pool and if fans stream more, eveyone gets paid less per stream.
Dynamic pricing isn't so direct - there may be people who have very strict concert budgets and stick to them, but mostly people are going to be choosing between concert tickets and a wide range of leisure (and non leisure!) spending. Dynamic pricing sucks, but the impact on other artists is nothing like the impact of streaming.

bands like one direction and 5 seconds of summer have genuinely changed people’s lives and it’s time to start putting respect on their names as bands rather than dismissing their fame because the majority of their fanbases are women <3

sending zayn so much love and strength and hugs for having such a good start to the tour. i truly can not fathom what he must be going through rn because. he hasn't been on stage in nearly a decade now and he has spoken about the anxiety surrounding performing and for him to finally find a space where he can pace through live performances at his own level makes me feel so immensely proud of him. the last time he was on stage, he had four others backing him, supporting him and helping soothe his anxiety. and now one of them is gone. and like. it took him around eight years to be able to look back at his time in 1d fondly, to be able to embrace the band days and get nostalgic about the songs he made as part of the band. and now two days ago he was there when they buried liam. and to go through such monumental change and to still power through and perform. god he truly is one of the strongest people ever. i am always proud of him and he will always be such a shining star in our lives
#zeestar#yeah. i honestly can't even imagine how he did it but i'm so proud#i'm so glad he has khai now because if she's the reason he was about to heal from his 1d trauma and perform again then#he truly is such an amazing dad

The thing that could always bring gladness Will now surely always bring sadness. Four men in black dress Laid their brother to rest. Liam’s gone? What the fuck is this madness?
#liam payne#rest in peace liam#tw liam's death#my brain is entirely disinterested in processing his death#i've made no progress — it's still october 15 and he's still alive#still can't listen to 1D#the funeral coverage seemed very sanctioned#it was kind of his family to let fans in on the grief#i hope they've had a lot of time to grieve privately#i was so moved all four were there#and that they seem to have orchestrated a unified front in terms of displays of mourning#giving the media just enough to write the headlines#but not turning it into a 'reunion' spectacle#what's hitting me hard is seeing them dressed in their funeral blacks#i fell hard for 1D with their performance of through the dark on snl#i didn't know anything about them before that#and seeing these five men in svelte black suits was so contrary to what i imagined them to be#(well — four were svelte. louis was straight up slutty.)#and their funeral attire takes me back to that moment#but 'through the dark' plays in my head like a dirge now#will it ever not be hard?#hope y'all are all ok#liam's funeral

By Hollie Geraghty | 22nd June 2023
Niall Horan has said that he believes One Direction are still close because the band “never believed the hype”.
The Irish musician, who released his third solo studio album ‘The Show’ earlier this month, parted ways with One Direction when they split in 2016.
However, the band members – Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik – remain close, according to Horan.
“I just think we never believed the hype,” Horan said in a new interview with Sunday TODAY, after host Willie Geist noted how the boy band avoided the “fire” that has damaged other groups in the past.
He went on: “As I said, the state of shock was always there. You have to remember, it was us, our team, our bubble around us, and we just went from place to place worldwide and kind of went along with it. If you’re looking in, it must have looked crazy, and everybody’s going, ‘You’re in the biggest band!’ We were just having a great time. We always used to say we’re normal people doing an abnormal job, which is a good outlook to have.”
The singer also recalled the name of their 2014 stadium tour ‘Where We Are’, “because we always used to be like, ‘Look where we are!'”
He went on: “Every now and then you catch yourself just like looking at each other going, ‘This is nuts’.”
Horan also said that “thankfully” the feeling has never gotten old, adding: “I love it.”
The full interview is set to air on Sunday (June 25) on Sunday TODAY.
In another recent interview, Horan said that he sometimes sends his solo music to his former bandmates for feedback.
“Not every time, but if I feel like I need an opinion, I always send it out,” the singer told Esquire.
“This time I sent it to Louis, and he gave me his honest opinion on it, which is always handy,” Horan said, referencing ‘The Show’.
“We’ve released enough songs over the years, so we know what’s decent and what’s not. All the 1D boys and artists alike, I’ll always try and send it around and get everybody’s opinion.”
The former group have shown each other support publicly in recent months. Styles thanked his ex-bandmates after he was named Artist Of The Year at the 2023 BRIT Awards.
In a recent interview with NME, Horan said of his new album: “The last time I wrote an album I did less thinking. You don’t in your early 20s, you don’t think too much at all – well I didn’t anyway, probably just immaturity of me.
#here's the aforementioned niall piece#niall's like 'we're all besties' never mind that some people haven't acknowledged each other in like.. 7 years :/#but we know they're#💛#most of them anyway..#niall#about 1D#nme#22.06.23#link

Watching This Is Us and it’s actually so interesting to see the difference in fan behaviour from ~10 years ago to now. Like in 2013, the internet was definitely there as a motivating force but interactions were still somewhat controlled? There’s just like no compartmentalisation between real life and life on the internet now?? This is so incredibly bad lol? Why isn’t there more academia on this???? Also, this band really does not get the recognition they get for being the phenomenon they were lol. Truly a once in a generation moment I’m so grateful I was around for
#so many people write about the Taylor Swift effect but I do believe she’s just riding the remnants of the culture that 1D created.#she’s just the last one from that generation because everyone else moved on and evolved
