Thriller Recommendations: "I Support Women's Rights (and Women's Wrongs)"
I think it might be obvious by now that I am a SUCKER for a good thriller. It has become my most read genre (I have already read more than thirty of them so far this year.) I love trying to figure out the plot twist before it is revealed, and although I am still pretty bad at it, it is still a fun process. I have come to love the trend of “supporting womens rights and women’s wrongs.” I have…

It's Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off on a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives. But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations. As Anna sets out to find her friend's killer, she discovers hard truths about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love. As she awaits the judge's decree, it becomes clear that everyone around her thinks she is not just guilty, but dangerous. When the truth comes out, it is more shocking than one could ever imagine...

Thrillers about toxic female friendships perhaps with a surprise gay twist?
Oh, how I love these... my gold standard is Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas, which was rereleased as I'll Never Tell, and you'll also want A Line in the Dark by Malinda Lo, She's Too Pretty to Burn by Wendy Heard, and Trouble Girls by Julia Lynn Rubin. Taking a little bit of a left turn from this but in an area that I think still firmly works, People Like Us by Dana Mele. In Adult, you'll want to add Dare Me by Megan Abbott, and Black Iris by Elliot Wake w/a Leah Raeder.

gale liptrapp -> garret jacob hobbs (by default. sorry.)
belinda brown -> jack crawford
amanda snodgrass -> dr alana bloom
nash -> beverly katz
dayshawn -> brian zeller
milner -> jimmy price
(i put both of them on the bau team so they could make butt buddy jokes. thank you.)

christine russell -> dr bedelia du maurier
dascious brown -> phyllis 'bella' crawford
janice swift -> miriam lass

**this is the most hear me part out of this list**
ray liptrapp -> molly graham (LISTEN. not romantic. maybe platonic. idk either. but they become friends s2e8 and i think that’s reason enough. sorry again.)
lacey russell and/or lynn russell -> mason and/or margot verger (THERE IS NO ONE ELSE FOR THESE ROLES OKAY. I KNOW THIS IMPLIES SO MUCH BUT JUST BEAR WITH ME PLEASE.)
mi-cha -> chiyoh (SHE KNOWS ABOUT THE STORAGE UNIT AND I THINK IT TRANSLATES SOMEWHAT???????? help me.)
russell’s mom -> mischa (he’d probably kill her. so.)
russell’s dad -> man in the cage (and he’d probably blame him for her death. see. i make a little sense.)
i never figured out who would be francis and reba but i accidentally made some lesbian ocs for a separate vice principals fic storyline who would totally fit the roles but i’m not talking about them here.
will’s dogs are gamby’s ducks. :)
hopefully this made a little sense? even just a pinch would be great.

Mystery/Thriller Monday
Tumblr media
Aruba, a bunch of friends all having the time of their lives. Then. Anna’s best friend Elise is murdered. It gets worse. Anna is accused of the crime. And so she is on the case to find the actual killer even though everyone else seems to think that she did actually do it.
It was publicized as ‘ripped from the headlines’ and, it definitely seemed like Haas took a few different of the most recent (and most disturbing) cases along these lines and smushed them together for great dramatic effect for sure.
The twists were twisty, and I did not want to put it down. Awesome book.

Title: Dangerous Girls Author: Abigail Haas
Stumbled upon this in a book recommendation vlog. First impressions first, its book cover and title were uninviting. During the time that I was reading the actual content, the cover and title didn’t supply it with justice.
This is a narrative of several teenage friends spending a vacation on a remote island only to have one of them dead, dripping in blood. We’re introduced with Anna and Elise, a dynamic duo, the best of friends and may either be a protagonist or an antagonist. Anna’s presented in a light, cheery, kindhearted good girl in the initial bunch of chapters whereas Elise, the victim, was an awful influence to her peers. It seems like she brought the danger on herself. There is Max and Chelsea; they are twins of Elise’s parents’ friends. There are also Tate and Lamar who I presumed are Lacrosse players. As supplement of having a partial, high school, setting, there is a popular girls clique which previously had Melanie and Elise as members. Things happened and all the aforementioned young ones became their own cluster. They’re enrolled in a private wealthy school and most of them have rich and powerful parents too. The complementary catty attitude was but somehow bearable for me.
Each chapter ends smoothly enough to capture the reader’s interest. Every single chapter’s written cleanly, only including the salient relevant matters. Was delighted with the inserted trial and court proceedings even attached with interrogation snippets, reporter interviews and the like. When the prosecutor is called in the witness stand, that’s when you know things are about to go round. Little did I know that this addressed some life truth the world has to hear. Especially regarding the injustice and corrupt politics that takes place in real life. A part of this book teaches about the misinterpretations and people’s shallow judgments. I end this with two words: chills and confusion. Those were the appropriate description that conceived in my mind just after finishing this novel.
“Wouldn’t we all look guilty, if someone searched hard enough?”
