Artist of the Day: Saudi ABDULAZIZ ASHOUR

Abdulaziz Ashour is a Saudi plastic artist who was born in 1962 in Jeddah. He wasn't trained as an artist in his early life, but rather used to be working for the Ministry of Energy. He was involved with art at such a young age, and participated in several exhibitions. However, he only became a full time artist in 2009 and has discovered his abilities as he creates pieces that combines many aspects of his life. In many of his painting we can notice the influence working with the Ministry of Energy had on him, particularly in his usage of materials like wires and circuit boards. Abdulaziz also writes regularly for several Arab newspapers, and have been an avid reader of Arab and international plays after he took art as his path. During this stage as well, we can notice the usage of materials like newspaper and magazine articles on the paintings and collages he creates. His style of painting is very traditional in the color combination he uses, but even with that he was able to create paintings that are vividly unique to his approach and mentality.
