“Remember when you were bald?” You said through a cough, giving Zuko a sideways glance with a little smirk on your face.
“Oh come on!” Zuko exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air. “What the heck did I ever do to you, y/n? Stop making fun of my bald self.” He crossed his arms and pouted and you just giggled to yourself as Toph and Sokka were holding back laughter.
“You have to admit it’s a little funny, Zuko.”
“It’s not!”
You walked over to Zuko and put your arm around him. “Okay, okay, it’s not that funny.”
“Thank you!” Zuko turned away from you still pouting and the campfire you were around with the others went silent.
Until you spoke up, of course.
“Remember when all you wanted to do was capture the Avatar.” Everyone started laughing and Zuko’s face went as red as a tomato. It definitely didn't help that Aang, you know, the literal Avatar, was sitting right there.
Sure, Zuko was happy that the gaang took him in, but it was definitely a little embarrassing that he had once made it his whole life and every waking moment to capture him.
“I have to capture the Avatar and restore my honor.” You said in a mocking dramatic voice.
Sokka and Toph were completely out of breath laughing while Aang and Katara were trying not to laugh in respect of Zuko.
“Okay, y/n.” Zuko turned to you, his face flushing a dark crimson. “I'm serious. Stop.”
“Zuko,” you walked over to him and tucked his long hair behind his ear. “You know I'm just playing. Sure, capturing the Avatar was definitely number one on your list, but you were still just a kid.” You rubbed his arm and Zuko smiled at you.
Zuko didn't know if he could live without you or his uncle. You were both there for him through thick and thin since he was banished from the fire nation. Heck, you even decided to go back to the fire nation with him after that awful crisis in Ba Sing Se. No matter what, you were always there for him.
“Remember when we would train on the boat?” You smiled.
Everyone turned to the both of you, intrigued.
You just smiled and hugged Zuko’s arm. “You’ve always had the potential to be a great fire bender. Who cares if your sister was some prodigy since she was born? You've always put in the work, making you that much better.”
“Stop,” Zuko said with a bright red face, hugging you to him. “If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be as good as I am.”
“Oh, come on, Zuko! I'm not that good.”
“YES YOU ARE!” You laughed at Zuko’s sudden outburst.
“Yeah, y/n!” Aang butt in, beaming at you. “You’re not only one of the best fire benders I’ve ever met, but also the nicest. No offense Zuko.”
“None taken.”
“You guys are a riot.” You said with a joking eye roll, standing up to stretch your legs.
Zuko stood up with you and wrapped his arm around you, looking at the full moon.
“You know,” Aang said, standing up and walking over to the two of you. “If it wasn't for the both of you hating my guts for that period of time, I honestly don't think that I would have any firebending teacher.”
You and Zuko smiled at Aang, pulling him in for a little group hug. Aang smiled and ran back to the rest of the group and you turned to Zuko and pulled him into his own hug, kissing the crook of his neck. “I'm so proud of you.” You whispered and looked at his bright yellow eyes with small tears of your own.
“I'm proud of you too.” He leaned down to you and gave you a small, but loving kiss on the lips before the two of you cuddled in each other’s arms, watching the clouds cover the moon.

hii! i have a request if that's ok .
for this request you can do either a modern au just just a regular avatarverse because i believe it works both ways (though i think its way better with modern)
basically the girls of the gaang out together for a little girls night out and the guys are just hanging out together. they talk about their girls a little bit but then a storm rolls in and its HEAVY. fiance!zuko (or husband) you know starts to panic a little bit because reader isn't really answering the phone (if chosen modern au), and theirs like a pretty ugly storm. reader DOES come back eventually soaking wet/sneezing and coughing, zuko is kind of like 😟😟, and the rest of the fic is just zu taking care of soaked and cold reader and its all fluff at the end!

“Last week, Suki took me bowling! It was sooo much fun!”
“Were you any good?” Aang replied, interested in Sokka’s most recent endeavours.
The boy huffed in return, hanging his head, “No, I flopped so hard, you don’t even know.” he paused, before looking back up, “What about you, what did you do?”
Aang grinned, “Katara and I spent the day indoors, bingeing her favourite show! To be completely honest, I didn’t really understand what was going on.” he frowned, before smiling as he recalled how she laughed at a joke he didn’t get, then looked at him in shock when she realised he didn’t laugh.
Aang turned to Zuko, tilting his head, waiting for him to add his own side of the story, Sokka doing the same.
“What?”
“What did you and Y/n do?” the brown haired one asked, an encouraging look on his features.
He looked between the two, getting a middle school boy sleepover vibe from the atmosphere. Alas, he didn’t mind sharing, “We had a picnic by the beach.”
“Was it romantic?” Aang asked.
Zuko blinked twice in his direction - what else would it be?
“What do you think?”
“I’ll take that as a yes…” he rubbed his neck sheepishly.
“Anything else?” Sokka asked, feeling like he ended the conversation too fast.
Well, there were plenty of other things you did! You baked a few recipes you’d seen online, struggling to follow the complex instructions, causing a messy end result, but two very proud individuals. Zuko recalls lecturing you after you had some of the raw batter, and you simply wiped some off of the spoon and onto his nose - your husband wasn't very amused. You also made him take a few quizzes online, ranging from which (Favourite game) character are you, to what’s your love language, to ‘create a desert and we’ll tell you what kind of spouse you’re looking for!’. He was highly sceptical of the last one. By the end of that session, you had established that zuko was an introverted-triple chocolate fudge cookie-alien with no favourite colour - he was 99% sure that was inaccurate. Although, his favourite was when you two dressed in your most fanciest outfits, and danced around the house, bodies rhythmic and in sync, despite no music playing. Only sounds coming from the gentle hums leaving your body, content from being held by your lover. He wished that moment never ended, he wasn’t exactly sure how to tell you that a thought you had on a whim is now his go-to romantic activity. Maybe it was the silliness of it all, every new day punctuated with weird games and jokes. He was a fan though.
Sokka nodded, deciding not to push the man’s limits, and turned on the large tv. The movie playing was nothing more than a low budget horror film - if you could even refer to it as that. The CGI was poorly conducted, and the story line was nonsensical. Aang and Sokka enjoyed it though, ‘the tackier, the better’ - their words, not his. Just as the three relaxed into their seats on the large sofa, a loud jumpscare came up, the villain flashing onto the screen along with a horrible screech. It wouldn't have been that scary, if it weren’t for the sudden bolt of lighting striking the nearby ground. The younger two jumped, screaming, grabbing onto anything close to them.

“What was that!” Aang yelled, looking out of the window.
“Talk about bad timing.” Sokka sighed, the storm becoming more prominent outside.
The rain stuck to the big window, the outside view becoming more blurry. Zuko’s breath hitched as he realised you were out, immediately tugging at his phone, unlocking it, and searching for your contact.
“What’re you doing?”
“Calling Y/n.”
“Oh my god.” Sokka immediately rushed to get his cellphone, Aang just as fast.
Zuko walked into your shared bedroom, picking at his fingers anxiously as he awaited the calling screen to switch from ringing to the numbers. As soon as he heard your voice he put the phone up to his ear.
“Yn where are-”
“Hi! This is Yn’s voicemail, please leave a message after the beep!”
His heart sank, and he suddenly felt light headed. Zuko didn’t cope well under stress, especially when he didn’t know where you were.
And so he called again. And again. And again... Only to get no response. On the 7th try, it stopped ringing, only calling - you had no service. He officially couldn’t reach you.
“Any luck?” the ponytailed guy said, leaning on the door frame, staring at Zuko’s back, who was now sitting on the far edge of your shared bed.
Zuko shook his head, dropping it into his hands.
Sokka rounded the frame and sat next to him, rubbing his shoulder comfortingly,
“I’m sure she’s okay, her phone probably just died,” he smiled.
“Yeah but how about Suki or Katara or Toph? All of their phones died?”
“Suki never charges her phone before leaving the house, Katara’s phone probably got waterlogged, and Toph never answers anyways.” he shrugged, masking his anxiety with false coolness.
“I guess so,” they both knew that didn’t make Zuko feel better.
Just then, Aang ran into the room, heaving, “GUYS! KATARA’S CAR JUST PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY!”
The boys immediately perked up, a bright smile on Sokka’s face. They sped to the door and opened it, finding you fumbling with your keys, with the three other girls behind you. Zuko’s face lit up, and he immediately engulfed you in probably the warmest hug you’ve ever felt.
“Hey,” you whispered, grinning. “I’m home,”
You knew he was probably anxious, judging by his shaky body, and furrowed brows. He had the tendency to project a face of anger when faced with fear and uncertainty. But you knew better. Zuko was just worried for you - and rightfully so.
He let you go afterwards, leaning back with his arms still on your elbows, examining the wetness on your clothes.
“What took you so long?”
“It wasn’t long at all? The storm only got worse like 5 minutes ago?”
“It definitely didn’t feel like just 5 minutes, Yn” he said sternly, almost like that of a father to his kid who played in the mud. It was cute how worried he was.
Everyone stepped into the house, not forgetting to remove their shoes by the little shoe cabinet by the door, the one you decorated with stickers on a day much like this one, muddy and rainy. The stickers have since then chipped and faded, but the memory the hold within will always be sweet. You immediately went to your room, wincing at the feelings of your wet socks against the ground, a change of clothes being your objective. Zuko joined you in the room as you stripped down, throwing you a pile of fresh pj’s and socks. As you finally felt the warmth of the newly out of the laundry outfit, another, even stronger, warmth covered you. You leaned into him, the scent of his masculine perfume flooding your senses. It was one you picked out for him, seeing as though it smelt less like a scent and more like a feeling. Like the feeling of a cold winter day being ended with a cozy sleep under the soft sheets of a cabin, far in the woods. You loved it, and so did he. It’s been the one he’d dawned for ages now, refusing to swap it out no matter what. He sighed, kissing you softly. You pushed him away, shaking your head.
“Zuko, I think I’m sick. Don’t risk it.”
“Are you sure?” He said, eyes saddened, an irresistible pout on his face.
As if on cue, you sneezed. Not once, not twice but three times in a row, only slightly quieted by your sleeve. Your husband stared in shock, before snapping out of his trance and making his way to the medicine cabinet, passing you a pill for the common cold, mumbling things incoherently all the while. Whilst you took it, he gave suki, toph and katara some clothes you kept for sleepovers with your friends, he always loved your over the top preparations. Then, back to the room he went. He helped you under the soft, warm covers, pulling up the blankets to engulf your shaking body. Definitely a cold. Zuko’s hand was placed against your forehead, warm to the touch. Definitely a cold. Then he got the thermometer, it read 37 degrees Celsius. Yeah, definitely a cold. He sighed, shutting the lights as he left the room to let you rest, check in on the other couples + Toph in the guest bedrooms. Checking up on you again, he realised you fell asleep. Zuko neared your side of the bed cautiously, careful not to disturb your sleeping form. Gently, your lover neared his face to yours, planting an ever so gentle peck on your forehead, before moving back, standing up straight again. He sighed as he walked to the kitchen, already using his mobile phone to research different soup recipes, attempting to find one that actually seemed appetising.
The boy ended up settling on a classic, and began his cooking endeavour. Sure, he wasn’t the best at it, but the effort was there. As the mixture brewed, he moved on to making a drink. Hot chocolate. The brown mixture was being stirred by the spoon as he added sugar, before topping it with three marshmallows, soft and squishy - much like how he was acting, soft and- well maybe not squishy. Moving on from the beverage, he used a ladle to scoop some of the soup into a bowl, then put the bowl onto a tray, beside the drink. He texted the group chat to let the other boys know to grab some soup for the sick if they wanted, before shutting his phone. His sole attention needed to be on you and you only. He took off his home slippers, the cheap ones you bought him as a joke - but he’d grown to love, and stepped into the room, socked feet barely making a single noise. He carefully slotted the tray on his bedside table, and slowly got into the bed, staring at you all the while. Zuko’s arm carefully stroked your covered arms, his feather light touch calling you out of your sweet dreams and into your very lightheaded reality. You groaned, shaking a bit after gaining consciousness.
“Hey love, I made you some soup.” you turned over, Zuko’s eyes staring lovingly at you.
You smiled, slowly sitting up so you could consume it. As you reached for the spoon, he pulled it back, looking at you with an eyebrow raised. “I don’t even want you to move a muscle.” you rolled your eyes, and he fed you a spoon full of the soup, the flavours actually quite nice to the taste.
“Hm, where’d you get this?”
“Why? You don't like it?”
“No, the opposite actually,” you laughed dryly, your throat hoarse.
“Oh” he blushed a little, “I made it.”
“You’ve improved!” you giggled, “They grow up so fast!” you wiped a mock tear from your eye.
He swatted your hand away from your face, a fake angry look on his face, “No moving,”
Although, nothing could disguise the blush from the compliments. He was always a sucker for your affection. Could you blame him though?
Zuko slotted the spoon of broth into your mouth again, the hot liquid running down your throat, helping to warm it momentarily. He then leaned back, passing you the cup of hot chocolate, which he had fit into your favourite cup warmer. Your hands gently brushed his as you took the drink, a grateful smile on your features, one that warmed his nerve wrecked heart. He couldn’t help but smile back.
“Mmm,” you mumbled into the mug, “It’s so good, thank you,”
He hummed in acknowledgment, placing the half finished soup aside after you signalled you don’t want any more, before going back to his original criss-cross sitting style. He watched you gulp the drink down intently.
“Careful, it’s hot.” his voice rang as you took the final sip of the concoction.
“You’re hot,” you replied, lowering the cup from your face.
He chuckled, hiding his bashfulness with his hands, “Shut up,”
Collecting the mug from your hands, the boy popped it onto the tray on the bedside table, turning his attention back to you. A sigh left his lips as he checked your temperature, you sniffling in the process. You grabbed his hand off of your forehead, lowering it to your cheek, and pressing a gentle kiss into it.
“I’m fine Zuko, it’s just a cold,”
“Luckily. Could've been worse.”
“And how so?”
“I- uh,” he paused, “I don’t know. Just could’ve,”
“We’ll, it wasn’t. I’m here, I’m safe, and I’m with you. Nothing to worry about sweetie,”
He shrugged, anything could happen after all.
You cupped his cheeks, your cold hands causing him to scrunch his nose. You giggled at your husband’s reaction, kissing the top of his head lovingly. He stared at you with wide, adoring eyes, and you tucked a lock of his hair behind his ear.
“Thank you zuko,” you whispered to him, a grin on your face.
He tilted his head sideways, thank you for what? You understood the implication of the motion.
“For taking care of me,”
“It’s the bare minimum.”
You laughed, “it’s still sweet”
He mumbled something against your palms, something about your standards being weirdly low, before kissing your hand - an act of physical love he learned from you.
Slowly, zuko removed your arms from his face and laid you down again, pulling the blanket over your body once again. Your fever had gone down drastically now that you’ve eaten and had something warm for your throat. But you were still severely dehydrated. He pointed to the drink next to you - water obviously - and said the following: “If you get thirsty, please drink, it’s right there.”
And you nodded happily, eyes already droopy. A yawn left your mouth as you rolled over, going from a position on your back to a position facing him - on your side. You watched him through half lidded eyes get up and change out of the clothes he was in, in favor of putting on fresh pj’s. He rolled his eyes playfully as he noticed your stare, leaving the room as he tugged the shirt over his head.
The man’s socked feet made a pitter patter type noise as he traversed the hall which housed the rooms your friends were staying in, making sure they were cozy and situated, and alerting them of the different toiletries and essentials you had stocked for this occasion. He gave the men some of his spare pajamas, before leaving to head back to you, a good night leaving his lips as he does. He yawned as he entered the room again, slipping under the sheets next to you. Zuko watched your chest rise and fall with each breath, reminding himself that you were here, and you were safe. Though, he couldn’t sleep. Not one bit. His body was tired, but sleep wasn’t coming to him. For the simple reason that you weren’t by his side, snuggled up against him. He knew you would yell at him if he cuddled up with you, he would get sick after all. But what’s a little cold gonna do? Careful not to wake you up, he scooted closer, wrapping an arm around you. Your body gladly accepted the invitation, spreading your arms over his waist, and your head onto his shoulder. Content, he sighed, a smile playing on his lips, knowing this is the calm before the storm - the storm being the lecture he was bound to hear first thing in the morning. ‘Zuko you could’ve gotten sick!’ He laughed at the thought, your angry face being far too cute for anyone to ever be threatened. His thoughts wandered, mostly circulating around you, before his eyes fell heavy, and his breathing got deeper, his mind lulling into a soft, sleepy trance.

This had to be a joke.
It had been a long day and an even longer night of running from the Fire Nation, and when Sokka and Katara started arguing with each other, you and Toph became increasingly aggressive in trying to annoy the other, and Zuko nearly burned down a whole forest on a quick pitstop, you all collectively agreed that you had to find somewhere to rest for the night in order to prevent a future murder. There was only so much peacemaking that Aang could do with a bunch of sleep-deprived teenagers.
The spirits were on your side for once, managing to stumble upon a sleepy town outside of Fire Nation influence. Everyone had voted in favor of sleeping somewhere other than the ground, so when you saw an inn with vacancies, you were ready to throw every gold piece you had at the owner.
“Aang, I can find a place for Appa to stay,” you said as you handed him your money purse. “You make sure that none of them kill each other and get us some rooms.”
“You got it!” He smiled and took the small bag from you then ran inside to catch up with the others.
You took out a moon peach from your rucksack and held it out for Appa, a treat that he gratefully took. “Good boy, Appa!” You rustled some of the fur on his head before gently taking his reins — finding a spot for the sky bison was one of the hardest parts of travelling when you decided to stay in villages, but you had done it so many times that it had become familiar.
When you returned to the inn, one sky bison lighter, you found Aang waiting in the lobby with a key in his hand and a nervous expression. He looked up as you closed the door behind you and his eyes widened as he tried to put on a convincing smile.
“Hey! Good news, I got us all rooms. Bad news—”
You took the key out of his hand and heaved an exhausted sigh, already beginning to walk towards the staircase. “Aang, as long as I have a room there is no bad news. I can put up with Toph’s snoring or Katara talking in her sleep as long as I have a bed beneath me.”
You looked at the number on your key and idled down the hallway until you found 2A, but when you pushed open the door you were met with… a sight.
“Oh, spirits,” you muttered.
Zuko was your roommate. And not just that, but there was only a single bed for the two of you. When he heard you walk in he whirled around, already attempting to placate the situation.
“I’m in the same boat as you. I don’t know why we’re together or why there’s one bed, but—”
Before he could finish, you had already run out of the room in search of the little bald menace that put you in this position.
“AANG!” you yelled, not caring if you were waking up anyone else. This was what you got for trying to be nice and helping with Appa — Aang had gotten you stuck in a room with not only the boy you were hopelessly crushing on, but with one bed. Maybe the murder from earlier wasn’t off the table.
You found him in the hallway and when you stomped up to him he had the nerve to look happy. “Oh, hey! I hope you like your room,” he grinned, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
“Actually,” you said as you held out your key. “I think that you switched these up. This one’s for you, right? You put me with Katara or Suki or Toph, right? You wouldn’t do something like this to me after I confided in you, right?”
“Relax!” Aang patted you on the shoulder and pushed your hand back. “I’m with Sokka, Katara and Suki are together, and Toph insisted on a room for herself — she put in extra money, so I can’t really go against it. Besides, you’re always telling me how much you like Zuko— this is your chance!”
You groaned and ran your hand over your face — you were far too tired to be dealing with this. “Yeah, my chance to completely embarrass myself! What were you thinking, Aang?”
“It’s going to be fine,” he insisted. “Just be yourself and try to relax.”
“I don’t do ‘relaxing’,” you grumbled as you stormed off in the direction of the front desk. You would try and get another room, or another bed in the room, or anything but sharing a bed with Zuko. You were pretty sure that you would actually die of embarrassment. You had no plans of ever acting on this crush that was in no way reciprocated — you would keep it to yourself, and if it didn’t fade, take it to your grave. Simple.
“Hi? Hello— yes, hi!” You managed to get the attention of the innkeep after desperately tapping on the desk a couple of times, and once on the wall for good measure, before she walked out of the back room.
“What?” She was an older woman who looked like she would rather be anywhere than talking to you at the moment, so you tried to make it quick.
“I’m really sorry to bother you, but I’m up in room 2A? I believe there’s been a mistake, there’s only one bed—”
“We don’t make mistakes here in the Hamatoshi Inn.” The woman was smiling but there was no heart in it. “If you got the room, then you got the room. There shouldn’t be a problem.”
“Of course!” you floundered, trying to save face so as to not get kicked out. “I’m not trying to insinuate anything, it’s just— well, there’s two of us. And there’s only one bed. Do you have any other rooms with two beds, or can you move another bed in, or—?”
This time when the woman spoke, she punctuated each word with a pause in between. “You got the room. There are no extra beds, and there are no problems. Deal with it.”
“I know, yes, but—” The innkeeper didn’t even allow you to finish before slapping a piece of paper on the table in front of you, which read No Vacancies. She met your eyes with an irritated smile, then gestured away with her hand as if to shoo you away.
You glared down at the key in your hand then clenched it into a fist, before trying to let all of your anger out in a breathing technique Aang had taught you. It didn’t work, so instead you tried to remind yourself of how good it would feel to sleep on a real bed instead of a sleeping bag on the ground or on Appa’s saddle.
You closed the door behind you once you returned to the room to see Zuko sitting on the edge of the bed, rummaging through his own pack before he glanced up at you. You shook your head and he sighed, but if you had kept your eyes on him for a second longer you would’ve seen the faint blush on his cheeks.
“There are no other rooms, and there are no other beds.” You lowered your voice to the pitch of the innkeeper’s as you waved your finger around menacingly. “‘And there are no problems. Deal with it.’”
Zuko laughed and you gave him a weary smile, gesturing around the two of you. “So. Camelephant in the room — what do we do about this? I can always try and force Sokka into giving up one of the beds in their room; I’m pretty sure we can beat him in a fight. Or I could sleep on the floor?”
“Is sharing a bed with me really that bad?” Zuko meant it as a joke, but in your combined state of nervousness and sleep deprivation you went into panic mode.
“No!” you refuted, perhaps a little too eagerly. “No, of course not! I just— I don’t want to make you uncomfortable! Y’know, you’re a prince, you’ve probably never shared a bed with anyone—”
This time, you noticed the redness of his cheeks as he shook his head. “No! You’re fine, I— I don’t want to make you uncomfortable! I’m totally okay sharing a bed with you. I’m definitely not gonna make you sleep on the floor; if anything I’m taking the floor.”
You shook your head as you picked yourself up from your spot against the wall. “No, no one is sleeping on the floor. It’s been a long day, and we picked this inn specifically so we wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor.” You took a seat on the other side of the bed, pushing your hand down on the mattress to see it spring back up. “We’ll share it.”
Somehow, Zuko’s cheeks turned an even brighter shade of red and he averted his eyes to avoid you seeing. “That, uh— that sounds good.”
After a few minutes, you had formed a barrier with some extra pillows you had found in a closet and had settled in for the night. You thought that it would be hard to fall asleep, but with your total exhaustion combined with Zuko’s familiar warmth (the boy was a walking fireplace) you found yourself drifting off far quicker than you thought you would.
You were so exhausted that morning came before you knew it, something that became known when rays of sunlight filtered through the shoddy window shutters. You yawned, reaching out a hand to pull the covers tighter around you only to hit your own leg.
You opened your eyes and nearly choked — the warmth was not from your covers, instead from another body. Zuko was pressed up against your back, his arm laid across your waist in a lazy attempt to draw you closer. One of your legs was touching his, all the pillows from the makeshift barrier either at the bottom of the bed or on the ground. From how you felt, you could only assume that you had been like this for at least half of the night.
Oh, spirits.
You immediately darted upwards and pulled your leg away — not that you weren’t okay with it, it was just— there was so much to go through with this that you didn’t even know where to start.
“Zuko.” Your urging did nothing to wake him up, so you tried again, saying his name a little louder. “Zuko.”
“Five more minutes,” he muttered, his hand moving around blindly in what you figured was an attempt to find yours again.
“Zuko!”
This time, it seemed to work as he cracked an eye open. He saw you next to him, the pillows separating the two of you gone, and your visible embarrassment, and it all seemed to click as he echoed your thoughts and jumped up, equally embarrassed and now fully awake.
“Oh, spirits!”

earth-2182 AU
(the home dimension of x-men character nocturne (talia wagner) daughter of kurt wagner and wanda maximoff) but with particular emphasis on the nightcrawler x scarlet witch ship.
Tumblr media
what’s actual canon in the marvel earth-2182 that i’m hanging onto:
kurt wagner & wanda maximoff are married and so besotted in love that their (adult!) daughter says ‘they’re like teenagers’. nightcrawler is an x-man, but the scarlet witch is a member of the avengers.
ok so AU time really just an expansion on that b/c there’s little to nothing else we know abt TJs parents in her universe... wanda meets kurt on a joint-team mission just after joining the avengers… she's 23 and he's 25 (so he's been an x-man for 5 years while she’s still v new to hero-ing) their teams get split up mid-crisis and they end up stranded together and it’s like omg crisis! actually we’re a really good team. actually you’re kinda hot??? etc, etc. i remember i read some random comic panels of them meeting and wanda impressing kurt b/c she speaks a bit of german and they’re really on the same wavelength and idk these little panels too give the hint that they’d just hit it off straight away y’know
afterwards kurt finds any reason to send her gifts or call her or show up at avengers tower - very flamboyant and dramatic. but anyway wanda is in a better place than in avengers movie etc. (and pietro is alive. the maximoff siblings are romani jewish and both alive.) anyway so wanda is doing okay and learning to be a hero, and then when that gets stressful there’s a guy who’s doing the absolute most just to see her smile. its all very charming and they get together. also it’s the 1980s.
more under the cut!
they date for about three years before they get engaged and then married very soon after. why wait! they’re in love (ages 27 and 29). scott summers officiates and cries about it, kitty pryde is kurt’s maid of honour, pietro maximoff is wanda’s best man. it’s the party of the year and the biggest x-men/avengers mixer ever lol.
kurt is your classic I LOVE MY WIFE guy, as we know he always chugs his respecting women juice. he’ll admit he’s a little terrified sometimes of the sheer power wanda has, but they’re so dedicated to each other its like katara getting aang out of the avatar state.
they continue to be on separate teams with separate bases as in earth-2182 canon but they do have their own place to spend time at together, luckily for wanda having a husband that can travel anywhere in the blink of an eye is extremely convenient.
kurt loses his eye 3 years later (ages 30 and 32) in a scuffle that i’m writing a fic abt the aftermath b/c i love angst and hurt/comfort lol and it shakes them up enough that they both decide to take time off from hero business.
during this time TJ is conceived!!! she is born (wanda 31, kurt 33) and wanda moves to xavier's so that they can get help with raising her and allowing her to grow up around other mutants, it’s the 1990s, kurt isn’t an active x-man but he is the school’s drama teacher. wanda really gets stuck into motherhood and realises it’s everything she’s ever wanted, literally Best Mother, sings the most beautiful lullabies, gets really into sewing and sews tons of matching outfits for herself and TJ.
later wanda rejoins the avengers and after about a decade kurt takes over leadership of the x-men and things continue from there. TJ trains to be an x-man and also sings in a riot grrl band. she’s a big time music lover b/c she inherited her father’s flair for the dramatic. she’s got main character curse a lil bit tho lol so during a x-mission she gets universally displaced (as in comics canon somwewhere idk i’m not fixated enough on it)
so TJ disappears in about 2015 at age 20, making wanda 51 and kurt 53.
and then there’s my whole mental disney movie about TJ trying to return home lol, probably it DOES put a bit of a strain on kurt & wanda’s unshakeable marriage because it’s understandably traumatic for your child to go missing no matter what age they are, and ofc TJ is having her interdimensional situation but i’m not imagining it playing out like in the comics too much because in my mind it’s all culminating in [this] because we love a happy ending. she deserves to make it home.
(TBH the most AU thing about this whole thing is just that kurt wagner NEEDS to be sexy and canon old man nightcrawler in in canon earth-2182 is like... not sexy, sorry. but the eyepatch is a vibe!!! so much of a vibe i’ve noticed it in the latest x-men gold(?) run, we love pirate vibes kurt)

I saw your list of ships that you like and dislike. You explained why you dislike M@iko and I agree with all your reasons. It’s the absolute worst relationship in the entire series. I literally can’t stand it. You said you that don’t like K@taang either. I wouldn’t say I like the ship but I don’t dislike it either. I’d like to know your reasons for disliking K@taang.
Hello anon!
You are correct. I do not like Kat.aang. In fact, it makes me very uncomfortable as a woman. Now, just to get this out of the way, before the accusations start. I do not hate Aang. I have so much sympathy, empathy, and compassion for him. The poor child lost his entire people and culture, was frozen in an iceberg for a century, and woke up to world ravaged by the Fire Nation that could only be saved by him. That’s absolutely awful, and he still managed to remain a good person and save the world despite the immense pressure. I want him to be happy. But all of that does not entitle him to Katara’s romantic affection. And that was the way Kat.aang was written. I anticipate this will be fairly long, so everything else will be below the cut.
It was understandable that Aang had a crush on Katara. She was the first girl he’d seen in a hundred years. She was always there to comfort him and help him. And she was pretty. He did appreciate her and support her at times. But Katara did not seem to even notice his crush on her and just saw him as a friend and even mothered him, until The Fortunteller Episode, which was supposed to really begin to set up Kat.aang. Ironically, that is the episode that completely put me off Kat.aang.
The writers clearly wanted us to sympathize with Aang failing to get Katara to notice him in a romantic way. It did not focus on Katara’s feelings. It was all about Aang’s desires. Then when we did hear what Katara desired in a partner, someone tall and handsome, which is a description that did not fit Aang, then she later looked like she was beginning to consider Aang as a romantic interest after Sokka called Aang a powerful bender. That really rubbed me the wrong way. To me, it looked like the message that was sent was that women should lower their standards and accept dating less attractive men, while men should be entitled to attractive women.
During that same episode, Meng had a crush on Aang, but she learned to accept rejection unlike Aang, who was rewarded by the narritive for having a crush on Katara even though it doesn’t look like she reciprocates. The Fortuneteller Episode sent the message of, “Katara is an idiot for not realizing how great of a guy Aang is because she’s such a shallow teenage girl who only cares about looks, but later that will change.” So I feel like it shamed women for having preferences, but rewarded men for having preferences. For me, that’s when Kat.aang shifted from feeling like an innocent little crush to a nice guy fantasy.
There is also something about the Kat.aang dynamic that I did not like. I didn’t like how Katara was the only one who could get him out of the Avatar state when he went into it uncontrollably. The writers clearly meant for that to look romantic, but to me it looked like anything but. Katara was put in danger time and time again for Aang’s sake. They made her responsible for calming him down at her own personal risk. Katara also did mother him a lot, which is not a good foundation for a future romantic relationship. The writers made Katara’s feelings for Aang so ambiguous and then on top of that made her act like she was his mother. She coddled him and was always so considerate of his feelings, sometimes even at her own expense.
Then in the Day of Black Sun episode, that’s when I truly started to completely loathe Kat.aang as it officially geared into non-con territory. There is some debate on whether or not Aang kissed Katara without her consent in that episode, but will not be debating that. He did. Katara was in the middle of talking, and he smashed his lips to hers. She stayed with her eyes open blinking in surprise for a while. She did not look pleasantly surprised. She did blush after but then she looked away, as if in discomfort. People can blush due to discomfort or embarrassment as well, not just due to attraction, for those who claim that her blush is proof that she liked the kiss. Then to make matters worse, Aang didn’t even stay to ask her if she had liked the kiss. He just flew away, and they never discussed the kiss again until the Ember Island Players episode.
The Southern Raiders is an episode where I have issues with Aang’s behavior towards Katara, and trust me, it has absolutely nothing to do with Zutara or Zuko. I understand that Aang was raised as a pacifist and he was taught that forgiveness is always better than violence, but Katara was not an Air Nomad, and he knew that she and the rest of the world most certainly did not share his pacifist beliefs. Many Kat.aang shippers criticized Katara’s behavior during that episode, when she literally did not do anything wrong. Aang was trying to get her to forgive her mother’s killer. Of course she reacted negatively to that.
He compared her to Jet for wanting justice. Zuko did not tell Katara that she had to kill Yon Rah, he just was defending her from Aang telling her that she had to forgive. And yes, Aang did lose his people, and that’s very painful, but that is not the exact same pain as losing a mother. Air Nomads did not have family units. They were raised by the community. So he cannot understand the deep bond between mother and child. That’s not his fault, but it’s the truth, and it makes Zuko more equipped to understand Katara’s pain, having for all intents and purposes lost his own mother. Aang later did accept that Katara had to go on the trip to face Yon Rah, but he still insisted that she forgive him, and yes, Zuko mocked him for it. Was it nice? No. But Zuko reacted like that out of annoyance for Katara, and because he himself could not imagine forgiving Ozai for taking away his mother. It was an emotional reaction.
And by the end of the episode, when Katara returned, she did not do what Aang wanted. She faced Yon Rah, she scared him, but she did not forgive him. No, she didn’t kill him. But she didn’t do what Aang wanted either. When Aang tells her that he’s proud of her and assumes that she forgave him, Katara tells him she didn’t, with a rather angry expression, and then goes on to forgive Zuko wholeheartedly. Zuko tells Aang that he was right, but that isn’t true. The writers were wrong. Katara did use violence. She did display her dark side.
She did what she needed to do. She did not forgive the man like Aang told her to. So Aang was not correct, and that episode put me off Kat.aang even more by how Aang was trying to get Katara to forgive the man who murdered her mother. Aang felt uncomfortable with Katara’s anger, “You sound like Jet” he was used to the soft, kind, and gentle Katara who always was accommodating towards his feelings. Aang was shaken when Katara acted out of his idealized perception of her. And I love that episode for Katara. She got to do what she wanted, others be damned. She got the closure she needed. She forgave Zuko on her own terms.
After the Day of Black Sun kiss, I think that was when Aang truly began to feel entitled to Katara, and he hadn’t even asked her how she felt about him in return. I think he had the mentality of, “I’m the Avatar so she’ll have to come around sooner or later.” So when time passed after the kiss and Katara did not automatically become his girlfriend, Aang began to show his entitlement issues towards Katara during the Ember Island Players episode. During the play, Aang showed some alarming possessive behavior in regards to Katara.
He angrily nodded when an actor on stage said, “I thought you were the avatar’s girl.” That made me so uncomfortable. Katara and him had not even discussed their potential romantic feelings. But Aang still viewed Katara as his without any regard for her feelings. Then when Aang and Katara talk in the balcony, Katara looks so uncomfortable. She has her arms crossed and she plays with her hair in discomfort. It reminded me of a similar situation I went through in my own life. I felt so bad for Katara, and I related to her as a fellow woman who has dealt with pushy men. When Katara told Aang that he was overreacting and he said that “If my chakra wasn’t locked I would be in the Avatar state” I actually felt alarmed and scared for Katara. Aang said that he would go into what is essentially an all powerful destructive God-mode because an actor playing Katara said that she viewed him as a brother.
Then Aang went on to say that he thought him and Katara were going to be together after the kiss at the invasion, to which Katara had no comment. It was honestly as if she had forgotten about the kiss entirely, which again, is not a good foundation for a future romantic relationship. Aang’s immaturity really showed. He was a 12 year old who did not understand that the feelings of the other person were important as well in a romantic relationship. And people defend him with “He’s 12! What do you expect?“ Well, exactly. If he thinks he is entitled to a girl’s affection after one kiss that wasn’t even discussed after, then he is not old enough to be in a romantic relationship. Then Katara told Aang that she “didn’t know” and that “it isn’t the right time” and that “she’s confused” for some reason, Aang took this as permission to kiss her, to which she rightfully got angry at. I thought I couldn’t hate Kat.aang more than I already did by that point, but I was wrong.
Yes, they did show Aang calling himself an idiot for kissing her. But that isn’t enough. It was narratively framed as the writers wanting us to feel more sorry for Aang than Katara. I felt the message was “Yes, Aang was wrong to kiss her, but aw poor Aang! He just loves her so much!” Not, “Poor Katara, who got kissed without her consent for the second time by a boy who is supposed to be her best friend.” After Katara ran away, the camera stayed on Aang instead of following Katara to show her more negative reaction. We were meant to sympathize more with Aang than Katara, and that really rubbed me the wrong way. There should have been a scene that showed Aang apologizing to Katara and showing that he truly learned that it is wrong to kiss someone without their consent. But there was no such scene.
Then after that, there was no more discussion about Kat.aang. There was no focus on Katara’s feelings. In the finale, after Aang saved the world, Katara magically knew that she liked Aang back, and went to make out with him on a balcony. We did not see Katara’s reasons for doing that. And no, I don’t buy the excuse of, “Katara liked Aang back, she just didn’t want to be with him because of the war.” Because if that was so, she would have just told him that. But she didn’t. It was hard for me to interpret that scene as anything but Katara being handed to Aang as a trophy for saving the world. To me, Kat.aang read as a nice guy fantasy for men who do not feel as attractive and who have been rejected by attractive women. It is not Aang’s fault. It is the writers for writing it that way.
The romantic relationship as a whole made me deeply uncomfortable. Other women have spoken out about how Kat.aang also made them uncomfortable, and have been rudely shut down by Kat.aang fans, because some of them shipped Zutara, as if that somehow invalidates our discomfort with Kat.aang. It doesn’t. When Zuko chased Aang and by default Katara, he was her enemy. He was not supposed to be nice. But when Aang kissed Katara without her consent and did not care about her feelings, he was her friend. A friend is supposed to respect you. To value what you want. And Aang didn’t do that. To me, that is worse.
I understand not feeling comfortable with the enemies to lovers trope. I’m not comfortable with it either unless it is done right. With Zutara I feel that it was. Katara was allowed to be angry at Zuko. His actions were not excused. He worked to earn her forgiveness and she forgave him when she was ready. After that, they developed a friendship based on mutual trust and respect. They supported each other equally. And if a romantic relationship developed from that, I would feel comfortable with it, because they had the foundation of being friends.
Zuko and Katara cared deeply for each other, and that was shown especially during the Final Agni Kai. Zuko initially took her with him to fight Azula with him, but then decided to keep her out of the fight to protect her when he realized he could defeat her alone. Then he took lightening for her at the potential cost of his own life. Then Katara tried to heal him during the fight despite Azula chasing her. Then she did heal him with tears of joy in her eyes. You cannot tell me that Zuko and Katara didn’t care deeply for one another. So yes, I feel uncomfortable with Kat.aang and ship Zutara, and that is not invalid, no matter what anyone else says.
I also did not like the way Kat.aang was portrayed in LOK. Kat.aang was not a multicultural family. Bumi seemed to be part of neither of his parents culture’s because he was a nonbender. Kya seemed to only participate in Water Tribe culture because she was a waterbender. And Tenzin only participated in Air Nomad culture because he was an Airbender. The Kat.aang kids did not participate in both of their parent’s cultures. Katara’s only grandchildren are from Tenzin, and they are all airbending Air Nomads who never participate in her culture. I feel that it wrong, because Katara’s own culture was almost completely wiped out too, and coming from such a family-oriented culture would have made her want for her descendants to be part of her culture too.
I feel that realistically Aang and Katara would have clashed culturally and ideologically. As someone else pointed out before, Aang did show disgust for Water Tribe culture once because of the use of animal skins. He also didn’t like their food, which is fine, it’s a taste, but it is concerning because his future wife is a proud member of the Southern Water Tribe. And I can’t picture Aang being truly okay with participating in a culture that is so different from his.
People say that Aang and Katara bond over being genocide victims which is true, but I think they’d clash more over their different cultures and ideologies on life, and I can picture Katara feeling the pressure to birth Airbender children to repopulate the Air Nomads, which is just something that is so unfair to her. Kya and Bumi canonically did feel overshadowed by Tenzin, which I think definitely says something. I get that Aang was trying to rebuild his culture, but I think it would have been so much easier if it had been done with an Air Acolyte, someone who is willing to completely embrace the Air Nomad culture, so that Katara wouldn’t have that pressure on her and she’d be able to focus completely on her own culture, that was also completely annihilated.
And you may be thinking, “But Ella, Katara would have to give up her culture if she was with Zuko too!” No, I don’t agree. There are many ZK fanfics that portray Katara still participating in her own culture while married to Zuko. Their kids are proudly both Water Tribe and Fire Nation, regardless of their bending. And Zuko and Katara also have more similar ideologies on life. They are both not pacifists and both omnivores. They both come from cultures that have family units. Yes, I’m aware that the Fire Nation nearly wiped out the Southern Water Tribe and I totally understand why someone may be uncomfortable with Zutara because of it. But as I’ve said in another post, Katara does not blame the entire Fire Nation. She helped the common people of the FN and she forgave Zuko. And Zuko himself also was not responsible for the raids. And he would make reparations to her tribe and help her rebuild. Some people think Katara would be uncomfortable with marrying Zuko because of the Fire Nation’s atrocities towards her tribe, while ZK shippers do not for the reasons I explained. Therefore, we are not invalid for disliking Kat.aang and shipping Zutara.
People are welcome to have different interpretations of Kat.aang. But this is the way that I interpreted it, and that is why I don’t like it and why it makes me uncomfortable.
Thanks for this ask anon. I’m not going to lie, this was kind of hard for me to write because I’ve gone through experiences in my life where I’ve felt like Katara when she was being pressured by Aang. To any potential haters, don’t even waste your time trying to invalidate this view. You will not silence me. I send support to any other women who feel uncomfortable with Kat.aang. You are valid no matter what anyone else says.
Thanks for the ask!

Let’s be real. I bet that if Aang looked like Zuko, you all would ship Kataang. Just admit that you think Zuko is attractive and not Aang. And Zuko may be your type, but he isn’t Katara’s. She never expressed any attraction towards Zuko, not even a subtle attraction like she did towards Haru. You may not think Aang is attractive but Katara obviously does. She has her own taste.
Uhhnmm????
Excuse you???
No. Even if Aang looked like Zuko I wouldn’t ship it because my problem with their relationship has literally nothing to do with aesthetics and everything to do with the fact that Aang doesn't respect Katara's boundaries.
It also has to do with the fact I personally identify with Katara's passion and have been with a partner who hated conflict/confrontation like Aang, which wasn't a great time for me. It is a deeply personal dislike based on my struggle to make my feelings more palatable and toned down for my male counterpart in the relationship. It was painful and I see that part of myself in Katara, who handles all of the attempts to get her to calm down and do the easy thing with a grace and strength I can only aspire to.
Also it's a bit disgusting to assume some random person's type. It's at the very least rude. You know absolutely nothing about me and the argument that you're insinuating is that I want to "fuck Zuko." Whether that's your intention or not, that is the implication and it's completely disrespectful of the aspec Zutara shippers, which I personally identify with, and any Zutara shipper that is not attracted to men. Please take a solid look in the mirror and think about that.
And you know what, yeah. I don't think Aang is attractive because he is a literal child. No one except maybe other children should be finding him attractive!!! That's weird.
Additionally, Katara literally tells us her type in "The Fortune Teller" if you missed it. She specifically mentions that she hopes her partner will be tall and handsome. Aang is neither of these things in the show, and he shouldn't be because he is a 12-year-old child.
And yeah, Katara doesn't express any interest in Zuko but literally what does that have to do with the conversation? This about Kata*ng and how a lot of the scenes in the show make some women uncomfortable. Zuko does not fit into this equation at all.
I also noticed you mention Haru and not Jet, someone Katara is most definitely interested in. Jet and Zuko look strikingly similar and if Jet is Katara's type, I see no reason why Zuko wouldn't be, although I will admit this is speculation, but it's pretty well founded if you just... look at both of them lol.
Katara is welcome to have her own taste. I have no issue with that, but what I find odd is that the guy she ends up with is one she shows little to no interest in during the show and the ones she explicitly shows interest in look nothing like her canon love interest and are instead tall and handsome. Your argument could carry some weight if she actually ends up with Aang when she's older, but she doesn't.
And also we don't need to see her express any canonical interest in Zuko to ship it. We're here for concepts and the chemistry, although I can see how that can be confusing to someone who's main argument for their ship is that its canon and everyone else should just move on.
Please go enjoy canon on your own. You're more than welcome to, anon. I encourage you to do so and to block any tags that may upset you in the future.

You people who think Steven should've killed the Diamonds, I just have one question for you:
How?
How? With what weapons? With what powers? With what army? How, exactly, could he have killed them?
Even if Steven wanted to, he couldn't have done it, he wasn't strong enough. He wasn't powerful enough. At least, not at the time of CYM.
This isn't like Avatar where Aang could've easily killed Osai if he'd wanted to, he was just some guy with really strong fire bending, he wasn't that difficult to kill.
The Diamonds were the biggest, strongest, most powerful things in the universe. How, exactly, was Steven supposed to kill them? Even if he wanted to, it wouldn't be possible for him.
He has powers and he's strong, but he's not strong enough. He's only 14. How is he supposed to kill them? He's short for a 14-year-old and those things are FUCKING HUGE.
What? With the Breaking Point? The Breaking Point's design is actually really flawed. You have to get super close to the other Gem to be able to kill them. It's not like a gun, where you can shoot from far away, you have to get super close or it doesn't work.
Little potato Steven wouldn't have been able to get close enough to any of the Diamonds to use the Breaking Point, they would've stomped on him.
Any way I try to slice it, there's no way Steven or any of the other good guys could've killed the Diamonds. They were too strong. They couldn't even poof them.
And I guarantee you. The same people who say Steven should've killed the Diamonds would probably have said "Deus Ex Machina" if Steven had suddenly found some great, powerful weapon or some insanely strong power up that would've allowed him to do the deed. You people are never satisfied. You always find something to complain about.
Also also, if Steven killed the Diamonds, then they wouldn't have been able to cure the Corrupted Gems and that would've been a crappy ending for fans of Jasper and Centipeedle.
So, if you have an enemy and you can't kill them (you literally, physically can NOT), you can't lock them up in prison, you can't even ignore them.... what's left? Talking. You have no choice but to use words. It's the only thing you have. Steven had no choice but to talk to them. He wasn't strong enough to do anything else. Talking was literally the only option.
Steven couldn't have killed them even if he had wanted to, he couldn't even poof them. None of the good guys could have done anything. They couldn't lock them up or punish them. It wasn't even an option. Talking was the only thing that had a sliver of a chance at working.
If Steven had tried to kill them, he'd be dead now.
If you want to argue he should've killed them, I need you to explain to me HOW.

I'm back🤸‍♀️
here to request a possible friends to lovers katara x reader based off the prompt “Every time I see your face I go crazy.” “Crazy in a bad way or crazy in a good way?” “Undecided.” maybe it happens during that one play they go to in book 3 i think it was. and readers making a big deal about how everyone sees katara and reader together instead of zuko and her. Just a suggestion though. you can make the setting wherever you want doesn't matter to me. THANK YOU FOR READING !!!!!!!!
I absolutely love this and had to re-watch the episode that you are referencing to (which was amazing bc it’s been a minute since I watched the show) honestly, this was fun to write! 💕💕
“Then Do It.”
Tumblr media
pairing: katara x fem!reader
info: oneshot, not proofread
warnings: none
summary: you go with the gang to a play that you all end up hating. The only good part was seeing a certain someone loosen up and laugh a bit.
a/n: I have no words other than please don’t call me cringe, I already know I am.
Tumblr media
Watching Zuko and Aang train wasn’t the most entertaining thing in the world. After awhile, even firebending gets really old to watch. The only reason you were out here was because Katara was. She insisted on keeping an eye on the two boys to make sure they didn’t get injured. You tried to tell her they knew what they where doing and that she should go inside and enjoy some shade but she wouldn’t listen. That was Katara, stubborn as ever.
You made yourself a promise that if she was going to sit out here you were at least going to let her get some stuff off her chest. She was always so stressed out and worried about other’s, that stress needed to be relieved. So, you let her talk, spill out all her worries and thoughts. You actually listened to, because you cared, maybe a little too much even.
“Okay, now that you’ve gotten all the doom and gloom out, what’s the first thing you want to do after we win the war?” You asked her
“You’re so sure we’ll win.” She said
“We will, now my question.” You replied
She sat there for a second and thought, then said
“Maybe a nice spa day like the one you, Toph, and I had. Oh, and possibly go to a nice bakery afterwards and get some sweets!” She explained, a smile forming on her face.
“And think about it, we could find a nice pond to spend the day near and just have some good old fun.” You added on.
“Yeah, that sounds nice,” she said, “also scaring Sokka by drenching him in a wave of water.”
You both laughed, imagining her brother’s face after getting completely drenched out of nowhere.
“We have to win the war first though.” Katara stated, dampening the previously light mood.
“I’m telling you Tara, we will, I mean, we have the literal Avatar, who can bend all four elements! Zuko’s father doesn’t stand a chance.” You explained
“Yeah, but Aang’s just a kid, he shouldn’t have the burden of the world on his shoulders.” She sighed
“He shouldn’t, none of us should, but we just do the best we can, and keep going.” You spoke solemnly.
“Maybe after all this is over you’ll get to see my home for the first time.” Katara perked up, speaking of something you had imagined many times.
“I’d really like that! We could go penguins sledding!” You exclaimed
“Yes!” She agreeed.
“Guys, guys, look what me and Suki found!” Sokka cheered as Aang and Zuko walked over to join You, Katara, Sokka, and Suki.
“What is it?” Katara asked
“They made a play! About us!” Sokka exclaimed.
“About us?” Toph asked
“Yup, probably because we are 100% coolio to the max.” Sokka explained.
Suki laughed at the phrase.
“I know that theatre. My mother always made me go watch their plays. Butchered my favorite story every single time.” Zuko piped up from where he was standing next to Aang.
“Is it really a good idea to go to a play right now? We’re in the middle of a war.” Katara pointed out.
“Katara, this is the kind of crazy random stuff we’ve been missing out on!” Sokka protested.
Eventually everyone agreed that they would put on their fire nation attire and attend a play about themselves that evening. You knew Katara was worried that it was a “waste of time.” And you tried to talk to her about other things to keep her brain distracted. She seemed to appreciate it, always giggling and smiling when you made a joke or told a funny story. Good, your plan to de-stress your friend was working. However, you will admit every time she laughed at something you said, it gave you immense butterflies in your stomach. That was probably just nerves about the play though, right?
When you got to the theatre the first thing that happened was Suki, Sokka, and Aang grabbing every snack imaginable before we got to our seats. Then, Toph made a comment about where we were sitting and that she couldn’t pick up anything with her feet. Very understandable complaint since that was her way of sight. Katara promised to explain everything to her, oh how kind she was.
-☾❤︎☽-
The play was definitely something. No one liked how their character’s where portrayed, not even you. While they where accurate to an extent, everything was horribly exaggerated. That was the point of theatre, you knew, but this was too much. When intermission hot, you were more than happy to get out of the theatre and get some air.
You could tell you weren’t the only one who was upset. It wasn’t that you didn’t like how they portrayed you, well, yeah, that was it. You weren’t a bender and the play definitely got that spot on. Except, they made you out to be this weak person who just follows Katara around like a puppy letting her protect you.
That was hardly the case. Sure, you might not be a bender, but you had studied at the university in Ba Sing Se, where you met the gang. You had learned how to make small gadgets there that would help in combat and everyday life. So, being portrayed as helpless just because you couldn’t bend and you were a girl didn’t sit right with you.
Zuko and Aang didn’t seem to happy either.Zuko was more than his usual grumpy and even seemed a little sad. Him and Toph were sitting together, you assumed she would take care of him. Suki and Sokka were attempting to sneak backstage so Sokka could recommend some better jokes as the “dedicated fan” he is. Aang had gone out on the balcony to sulk, or at least that’s what it looked like he was doing when he walked out. Now, where was Katara?
You walked the halls for awhile, and made a full circle back to where everyone had been sitting. Your feelings hadn’t gotten any better. In fact, quite contemplation might have made them worse. You saw Katara walk back in from the balcony where you assumed Aang still was since he didn’t seem to follow. She looked exhausted, yet still somehow had a small smile on her face.
You tried to lift your chin, put on a smile, and pretend like nothing was wrong. She saw right through it the second you told her you had been looking for her. How? How could you be so good at hiding your emotions and yet she was always one step above at sniffing them out? She asked you what was wrong, you told her you didn’t want to burden her with one more thing.
“Y/n, I care about you, a lot, I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t want to know.” She told you
“Katara, do you really think that I’m just the tag along in the group. I hate saying all this because it sounds so pitiful and I don’t mean to but, am I really the weak bender who doesn’t have a use?” You rambled off to her.
“No, absolutely not Y/n, you are a valuable part of our team. You matter so much to the others, especially me. I, personally, don’t know where we would be without you and your handy gadgets and gizmos.” She explained to you
“Really?” You asked
“Yes!” She exclaimed
“I really matter that much to you?” You took a leap of faith with the question.
“Y/n, every time I see your face, I go crazy.” She confessed
“Crazy in a bad way or crazy in a good way?” You chuckled a little as you questioned her.
“Undecided.” She replied
“Oh.” You said, trying you hardest not to sound too disappointed.
“It’s just been so hard with the war to sort out my feelings. I mean, so always get this weird feeling in my stomach when you are around. Also, I find myself wishing you were right beside me all the time. It’s crazy, sometimes, I even just want to lean in and kiss you!” She ended her aggressive ramble.
You were in utter and complete shock. She confessed, this was the moment you had been waiting for ever since you met them in Ba Sing Se. This was it, and now that it was here, you couldn’t think of a single thing to say. So, you blurted out the first thing your brain thought of.
“Then do it.” You said
She did
-☾❤︎☽-
When you two pulled apart the. Rest of the gang was there wide eyed. Of course, the first one to speak up was Sokka.
“Ha, Toph, you owe me five gold coins AND a full statement saying that I, Sokka, was right and you, Toph, were wrong.”
“Wow, I mean, I always saw you guys look at each other funny, but I never guessed,” Aang started “I’m happy for you two.”
“I won’t lie I always thought Katara would end up with Zuko.” Suki admitted
Katara laughed, probably harder than she should have.
“Hey, it’s not that funny.” Zuko said,
“Don’t take offense to Zuko’s mood, he’s always like that, he’s quite pleased with this pairing, and so am I.” Toph explained
“Well, at least one good thing came out of this horrible play.” You jested
“Yeah, and it’s not even over yet.” Sokka replied

Note
I really don't know where this whole idea of Katara likes Jet so Katara would've liked Zuko too came from.
Like Katara thought Jet was cute but he was also charming and he wanted to make the world a better place.
Zuko was a total ass in season 1 who thought earthbenders and waterbenders were beneath him. Like Katara Jet had a strong sense of justice. Jet and Zuko are polar opposites.
I mean it sounds to me like ZKs are the ones who are reducing Katara to shallow girl who only dates a guy for good looks. Especially since you obsessive shippers lose sleep at night over Katara not dating hot guy Zuko.
It's simple: They focus on the fact that Jet and Zuko DO have things in common, while ignoring that said shared traits were what made Katara not only lose interest in Jet, but also actively see him as a traitor and a threat.
The anger, bitterness, resentment, and especially the mentality of treating killing innocent people as a "necessary evil" that Jet had, even coming from a place that is at least understandable AND that Katara would understand, shattered the image she had of him.
He was no longer an equal, a survivor, a brave, noble, selfless warrior saving people, protecting those that couldn't defend themselves, changing the world for the better, little by little. He was a murderer. A manipulative monster.
THAT side of Jet, the violent side of him, was what Zuko could relate to - hence Katara HATING Zuko for his support of literal war and genocide, and warning Aang not to trust him because he is the type to pretend to have actual feelings and then stab people in the back.
Now, Katara DID have her moment of choosing violence - but she stopped herself, and she even wondered if it was because she was too weak or too STRONG to do something like that.
Katara sees holding onto hate and giving into one's worst impulses not just as a flaw, but as a deal-breaker. Hence her forgiving Zuko, but not demonstrating any interest in him, AND her forgiving Jet, but her crush on him not coming back - because his actions had already killed that possibility.
And who does she end up with? Aang, a pacifist that she believed could save the world, even before she met him, and then he went on to prove her right - and he did without killing Ozai, even though that was something that seemed so inevitable that even Katara had no issue with.
And since you brought up the attraction factor, let's not forget that Katara doesn't seem to have a "type", at least for looks (she blushed when Haru complimented her, even as he had that horrible mustache for God's sake!). What she likes is presence and personality.
While Aang could be a dork, he had his charm and charisma. Katara was already willing to kiss him in "Cave of Two Lovers", when he had absolutely ruined the moment - in "The Headband" with Aang's charm at full force, she was absolutely smitten by him as they danced, as he made sure to make her feel important, even though everyone else wanted his attention. And again, AVATAR and savior of the whole world.
Jet was pure charisma and charm, to the point that he literally swept her off her feet, and she was blusing and had heart eyes every second he was near her OR that she so much as thought about him.
Zuko... well, he had a nice date with Jin, but she had to do 90% of the flirting. And his smoothest moment? Was with a girl that was as emo as him, to the point that their version of "I love you" was "I don't hate you." Totally works for them and was super adorable, but it would NOT impress Katara.
So yeah, Zuko has the WRONG things in common with Jet, and doesn't have the things that made Katara attracted to him, which makes the argument of "She liked Jet, therefore she'd be into Zuko" complete nonsense. Meanwhile Aang, the guy they claimed was totally wrong for her, checks all the boxes for the instant infactuation AND long-term attraction.

THE GAANG WHEN THEY HAVE A CRUSH ON YOU
gn!reader
ੈ♡˳·˖✶
Aang
- omg he’s so shy around you.
- always trying to impress you during fights
- he blushes every time you walk into the room. like his heart literally leaps out of his chest.
- who gave you the right to be so beautiful??!??!!
- he is def making you a friendship bracelet rn.
- he’s waiting for a big moment to confess to you
- unless he finds out you return his feelings ;) then he’d confess right then and there.
- would be disappointed if you didn’t like him back, but would try to be chill about it. he understands its not your fault…
- still cant get rid of his feelings for you though, even if you rejected 🤕 poor guy
- in conclusion, give him love.
Katara
- acts 100% like a mom
- you tease her for it, and maybe she’ll give it up a little bit
- but she really cares about you and your safety!!
- constantly giving you compliments
- wants to spend every second hanging out with you
- likes to show off her bending in front of you, but if anyone brought it up, she’d deny it
- her confession would be a spur of the moment thing. like if you got hurt, or maybe succeeded in learning this really hard bending move.
- if you feel the same way, great!
- if you don’t, well then she’d be very upset and would probably never talk to you again. lol. she’d still understand, but please !! don’t break her heart !! she cares about you so much !!
Sokka
- constantly joking around you, trying to make you laugh
- always staring at you during training
- you’re the only one he’d share his food with
- he would be pretty stingy, but still.
- he’s always trying to impress you with his sword/boomerang skills.
- he’d have his confession all planned out for you, but something would happen and… it wouldn’t go as planned. it wouldn’t be as fancy, but his confession would mean a whole lot more.
- if you don’t like him back, he’d pretend it was a joke. despite feeling extremely let down, he wouldn’t want to loose his friendship with you.
Toph
- always making sarcastic comments with you, rather than at you.
- pretty touchy with you, but in a punching your arm because what you just said was way out of pocket kinda way
- knows if you like her back or not, because of her bending.
- if you like her back, she’d confess her feelings. it wouldn’t be formal, though. just while you too walking alone together to collect some firewood or something.
- if you don’t like her back, nbd. she’ll just be less enthusiastic around you, leaving you to wonder, what happened?
Zuko
- super shy around you, typically a blushing mess.
- at first, it was hard for him to talk to you 😪 but then he warmed up around you
- the feelings he has for you is very foreign, so he doesn’t understand it at first…
- until you two spend some time alone.
- he realizes he really likes you.
- you would have to be the one to confess.
- he might try a few times, but nerves probably got to him.
- at some point you’d catch on, and if you liked him back you’d just be like hey, i like you too.
- zuko would be so ecstatic omg.
- then you two become the second sappiest couple in the gaang, following katara and aang 😇
Suki
- she’ll want to spend all her time training with you.
- suki’s constantly trying to include you in conversation and loves make inside jokes with you
- she’d blush a lot around you, and would try to cover it up
- to confess she’d make it simple, maybe saying something after everyone else had gone to bed, and you were outside under the stars having one of your regular talks that basically just questioned the meaning of life
- she’d definitely change how she acted around you if you didn’t like her back, distancing herself
- if you like her back, from that point on, you two are attached at the hip.
ੈ♡˳·˖✶
I hope you enjoyed!! That was really fun to write, I can’t wait to do more!

I cannot decided what the funniest part of this scene is. The fact that Sokka’s plans up until this point have been grounded in reality and then he just starts off with ‘we dress Momo as a ghost’. How Momo is just letting Sokka use him as a part of his presentation and then perches on top of Sokka’s head like a cozy little hat. The fact that there’s basically no reason for Momo to distract the guards if they’re just going to use force anyway. Aang just avidly listening to this plan for a solid thirty seconds. Sokka still holding onto the validity of this plan when in literally any other situation he’d favor the rational plan that draws the least attention. This whole interaction being the clearest example of ‘Sokka and Aang are reasonably intelligent on their own but put together they share one (1) brain cell’. Maybe it’s the part where there’s a good chance that Aang could just walk up and do some airbending and they’d let him in just on the basis of him being the Avatar like, guys, there’s really no need for you to sneak in as bus boys you could just use your celebrity status.
We appreciate ATLA’s comedy so much, but this scene is constantly slept on and I cannot fathom why. This is where ATLA’s comedy peaked and you can’t change my mind.

‘The Firebending Masters’
Ah, the famous Zuko loses his 'stuff' episode. It really sucks for the guy, because he was only accepted in the group to teach Aang firebending, so I bet Zuko is feeling really nervous about having already exhausted his usefulness. And Zuko is still clearly feeling like an outsider... because he's being treated like an outsider, so this is hard on him. At the same time... sorry, but I love Katara being devastatingly nasty to him. Mean girl rights are respected in this house. <3
Okay, and then the episode becomes a pure Zukaang adventure. I mean, Aang and Zuko end up dancing twice. Aang literally ends up telling Zuko "Zuko, get over here! I want you to dance with me!" Pretty unambiguous if you ask me.
The Sun Warriors are pretty cool. The dragons not being extinct is even cooler. And I get that this is a very important episode in terms of firebending lore... and that's interesting, sure. But also... I'm not super invested in Zuko and Aang's spiritual adventures. Throughout this episode, my mind was actively thinking about what the other characters were doing back at the air temple. I definitely would have preferred if this episode hadn't focused on Aang and Zuko this much.
What I love most about this episode is actually the final exchange, which is more merciless teasing of Zuko, and I'm glad to see the Water siblings taking charge again:
Sokka: We'll just tap-dance our way to victory over the Fire Lord.
Zuko: It's a sacred form that happens to be thousands of years old!
Katara: Oh, yeah‌? What's your little form called‌?
Zuko: .... The Dancing Dragon ...
I'm sorry, but vicious Katara is the best Katara. Anyway, that's all for me on this episode. I know a lot of you guys love this one, but for me it's just... alright. No changes to Jerk Points, and I'll see you on the Boiling Rock!

The Headband Re-Watch
This is a funny episode. I don’t think I have anything too groundbreaking to say about it, & I wouldn’t call it a favorite, but I always have fun with it. I know it’s a rip off of Footloose but I’ve never seen the real Footloose lol. I do kind of like that Aang rebels against the Fire Nation culture through something as universally human & expressive as dance - it’s a nice antithesis to the repression the Fire Nation seems to encourage. This is also the first & only time we get a look at regular Fire Nation culture & the indoctrination they grow up with. It’s an interesting glimpse at the everyday life of Fire Nation civilians.
Aang humiliating Hide is hilarious. +500 iconic behavior points. I also think this episode presents interesting evidence for those of us who like to write modern high school AUs. Aang’s role is clearly a bit of a class clown & also very much a popular kid. He instantly gets the entire class to like him enough to want to come to his illegal dance party AND to cover for him when they get caught. This kid has a very high charisma score. I’ll also admit that this is kind of a cute Kataang episode. I still don’t personally ship it but I can’t say anything against it in this episode. The party scene is funny & cute. The best thing about Kataang in this episode is that Katara is shown reciprocating Aang’s feelings. It’s obvious she has a bit of a crush here.
Katara & Sokka disguised as Aang’s parents will never fail to crack me up.
Tumblr media
[id: Sokka with a fake mustache & Katara fake pregnant while Aang sits between them looking sheepish. end id]
Sapphire & Waang Fire my beloveds. They’re so funny & dramatic. I always cast the Fire Siblings as theatre kids & I stand by that ‘cause there’s a lot of evidence for that too. But have you considered? The Water Siblings are also theatre kids. +500 iconic behavior points each for Sokka & Katara for their hilarious disguises.
Zuzu is a hot mess (affectionate) in this episode. I feel like for a while I was trying to pretend I wasn’t a blatant Zuko apologist but I totally am & I think maybe I should just embrace it. This is probably the episode where Zuko is the most asshole he’s been yet but I still feel bad for him. It’s just…. Is he a complete jerk for melting down while visiting Iroh in prison - a prison Iroh is in because of him? Yes. But also…. I mean, the thing is, you guys, he’s a teenager trying to undo a lifetime of freaking indoctrination. Iroh didn’t tell him to join the Avatar until it was literally showdown time. Iroh had already started to question the Fire Nation & consider the importance of balance, but he & Zuko didn’t talk about any of this! From Zuko’s perspective, siding with Azula is the exact thing that always would’ve been expected of him. I just feel bad for him. I still feel awful for Iroh too though, rotting behind bars because of his nephew who he views as a son… ouch. And honestly, I feel like the thing that hurts the most about this for Iroh isn’t even that he’s suffering personally it’s that he hates seeing Zuko choose his father & the Fire Nation after everything they went through.
Tumblr media
[id: Iroh facing the viewer, frowning. Zuko is in the background behind bars. end id]
Huge fan of shots that put a character outside of bars behind the bars so it’s unclear who’s imprisoned.
I love cinnamon topography.
Also, I love Mai & Zuko’s little picnic.
Tumblr media
[id: Zuko & Mai smiling on a picnic. End id]
After watching Wednesday, Mai calling the color orange disgusting as they watch the sunset reminds me of something Wednesday would say. They’re just so cute.
I like how Azula gets Mai to go away by telling her Ty Lee’s braid is tangled. Hey, ladies gotta have their priorities! Also, once again Zuko’s inability to lie pops up. Azula is literally being such a considerate little sister by warning Zuko about visiting Iroh. I don’t see how anyone could view this any other way. She’s looking out for her big brother & I think that’s really cute.
I have nothing else to say about this episode. Tune in next time for more rambling recaps!

local bastard torments the teenage gays without even meaning to but then very much with intent once he realises what he's done:
“I’m thinking.” Sokka snapped, angrier than he ought to be but he couldn’t bring himself to feel bad, not when Bato had opened his big mouth and forced Sokka to think about Zuko like... that.
“I literally just asked if you liked the guy,” Bato sighed, admiring his cuticles, “you don’t need to have a breakdown over it.”
Sokka grit his teeth, glaring at the boy in question. Zuko and Aang were stood in a clearing in front of where Bato and Sokka had sat to spectate, going through some firebending katas, blissfully out of earshot. Sokka had been here first, by the way, but apparently, Bato didn’t care for that, sitting himself down and immediately chatting as much shit as feasibly possible. It had started simple, Bato asking why Sokka was watching the firebending to begin with, and when Sokka had given some flimsy excuse about keeping an eye on things, blue stare following the fire, Bato’s expression had taken on a dark understanding. That was the last moment of seriousness Sokka would get from the older man, because it was clear that Bato was bored, and a bored Bato was a very dangerous thing.
“You know, from an entirely political point of view, you are the next generation of Water Tribe,” Bato said, feigning aloofness, though his stare held a pinpoint accuracy, “and there is a big chance Prince Zuko will one day be Fire Lord Zuko.”
“So what, you going to marry me off?” Sokka scoffed, part of him wanting to be embarrassed they were having this conversation, the other half too aware of how ridiculous it was to even care.
“I was talking about the benefits of kindling a friendship between the Southern Water Tribe and Fire Nation after the war.” Bato frowned, like he wasn't sure how Sokka had progressed to that train of thought. The silence began to stretch. A smile crept onto Bato's face. “What were you talking about?”
Sokka immediately flushed, and then cursed himself for flushing because it wasn’t like he’d actually said anything bad.
“It was a joke,” Sokka hissed, tone a little too desperate, that desperation only growing when Bato’s smile became an evil grin, “I was kidding.”
“Hey, no judgement here.” Bato said, holding up his hands, “I think that’s very forward-thinking of you. Take one for the team. Very enterprising. Hey, is that why you almost passed out when I asked if you liked him? You know I meant platonically, right? Not that there’s any shame with taking it another way but-.”
“Okay!” Sokka shouted, scrambling to his feet and, Spirits, drawing the attention of Aang and Zuko with his sudden outburst. “I’m done with this conversation. I think... is that Katara calling me? Bye, Bato.”
He stomped off to the tune of Bato’s laughter and the blood pumping in his ears.

Have to rant about Teen Wolf for a bit (anti-sterek, complaining about anti-scott mccall, pro-stiles)
Why are people upset that Sterek was never canon?? Like it's already confusing that so many people ship it like it's a normal ship. Like guys, STILES IS A CHILD, DEREK IS AN ADULT. Yeah, Stiles is an adult at the end of the show, but they met when he was like 15/16, Christ at that age I couldn't even image dating someone 17 or 18, much less 25!! (His age is a little unclear but it's around that) (and yes I know about his age recon, it's irrelevant because he was originally 19ish and that's still an adult/child relationship) That's a whole decade age gap. If they had met when stiles was already 18+, sure, still kinda weird but fine. But that's not what happened.
To put it in perspective, I bet a lot of you think the Kate and Young Derek kiss scene was gross and weird (at least hopefully you do) Google says she was about 29 when that happened and Derek was turned 15. That's a 14 year difference. Now you might be complaining, 'the sterek age gap is smaller than that!' well it's about 9ish years and that's STILL GROSS
And on young Derek, he was around Stiles' age (1-2 year difference) and it's such a drastic age difference from normal Derek, right? So if young Derek is considered a child who shouldn't be kissed by an adult, why is it ok when it's Stiles? And it also just shows how large of an age gap they have when Derek is around Stiles' age and he's literally a baby if that makes any sense.
They reconned Derek's age because if he was 19 and she was like 27-28 then he would've been 13 when they got together and she would've been 22ish. Huge pedo issue there obviously. And guess what, thats the same age gap as Sterek.
And some of you might say, 'well other shows have canon adult/child relationships!' that's true, but either it's criticized in the narrative or Pretty Little Liers (I really like that show but WTF was up with all the pedo ships???? Especially AriaxEzra) and just because a lot of things do it doesn't make the thing ok, for example, shipping Sterek.
They don't even really have any romantic chemistry, like their dynamic was funny but most of it was Derek literally hating on Stiles. Like if you're going to ship a morally dubious ship, 1) at least have it be an interesting ship? They're so boring together 🙄 and 2) own up to it!!! Most of y'all act like Derek wouldn't get thrown in jail if he was into stiles like that
Personally I like to think after some nice character development, Derek comes to see both Stiles and Scott as little brothers, but unfortunately I've become so tainted by the onslaught of inescapable sterek content that even then with a very cute, platonic relationship seems wrong, which is stupid but my brain has now blacklisted any fan content with either of them in it now...
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON SCOTT HATE, genuinely what is WRONG with you people?? He's the purest, sweetest character in the entire show! And sure, Stiles is more interesting as a character, but Scott is a really good protagonist. Good comparison I thought of is how in ALAB everyone is obsessed with Zuko even tho Aang is the main character. The only difference is that for some reason a big percentage of the fandom decided to shit on Scott for no reason.
Main 'reasons' I've seen:
Scott is a bad friend
- When???? Where? The only time I could kinda see that is in season 1, but think about it like this, he's 16 (A CHILD) and not only is in love for the first time, but has to deal with all the werewolf/alpha stuff that went down in that season. He's busy, he's going through it. And yeah Stiles was very involved and was doing his best to help, but Scott can't be in a million places at once. Guys, normal kids are worse friends than Scott ever was and are still good people, cause it happens sometimes. Are you constantly think about your bestie when you have a million other things going on? Probably not! And it wasn't even that bad because Scott did keep stiles in the loop 90% of the time!!! Y'all actually like Scott was Gon in the chimera ant arc 🙄
His argument with Stiles in season 5
- Was Stiles having a rough time? Yeah, absolutely. Was he in the right? Yeah. But was Scott also really going through it?? Definitely, boy was struggling. Not only does this kid have the weight of the world on his shoulders all the goddamn time, but there was the whole mess they were dealing with, Hayden was dying, he and Liam were arguing, he was having such bad anxiety his asthma was coming back... Man was not in a good headspace.
Coupled that with the very specific way that Theo lied to him (let's be honest, it really does sound like something Stiles would do for his dad), and the miscommunication of Stiles not denying that something did happen, Scott believing that it was more murder than self defense makes a lot of sense to me. And when they do finally talk it out, it's really wholesome and Scott is not only really understanding, but apologetic.
Also, again, real relationships have misunderstandings and lack of good communication all the goddamn time. This doesn't make someone a bad person or a bad friend. FICTIONAL CHARACTERS CAN HAVE FLAWS AND MAKE MISTAKES WITHOUT BEING BAD PEOPLE!!!
Really sorry this is so long and probably has mistakes in it but I was mad and it's late lol

Oh my god that post with the "Aang looks nothing like Katara's canon love interests" - he IS her canon love interest! Jesus Christ.
My type is girls with dark curly hair, but I've been in love with several blondes. It happens. Katara saying that her fantasy guy is tall and handsome is not a contradiction to her liking Aang, not in the slightest.
I don't think you all want to fuck Zuko. I think you just like the ship dynamic of a tall, strong, fire bending, short-tempered man and a smaller, beautiful, kind but feisty women. And yes I do believe that if Aang looked like Zuko and acted a bit more traditionally masculine, you'd totally ship Kataang instead.
I really don't mean to be rude but did you read that post? I said that the characters Katara expresses explicit interest in look nothing like her canon love interest lol. I know you're going to say "well look at the headband! she obviously liked him then!" or the forced ending, but I just have to say that it's pretty much irrelevant.
Kata*ng is built on a writing trope in which one character explicitly expresses romantic interest while the other is specifically written to ambiguous about their feelings. This is traditionally associated with a "superhero" type story as in the end the girl comes around and gets with the man who saved the world.
Katara is literally designed within the show to not express explicit interest in Aang until the very last moment for ~drama~ so when I say that Aang looks nothing like the people she shows explicit interest in, that is what I mean.
This leads into the section of my post that you are so vehemently distressed with. Here's a friendly little reminder of it for you:
Tumblr media
Now, just to reiterate again with that screenshot, I say that the characters Katara expresses explicit interest in look nothing like her canon love interest. You can rest easy knowing that I am aware of how the show ended.
And sure, you can be in love with people who don't fit your physical preferences. I'm not going to say you can't and I didn't say that you couldn't in the previous post either. I'm simply pointing out that it's kind of weird considering there was another character who fit her preferences pretty perfectly right there, but this is all just speculation really. It makes sense to me and if it doesn't to you, that's fine. We don't need to agree.
I do enjoy the dynamic, although I would describe it a bit differently than you have. I enjoy the dynamic of two people who can fall in love against all odds and see each other as equals in a world that was torn apart by a superiority complex. I enjoy seeing two people who are similar enough to understand each other, but different enough to complement each other. That is the Zutara dynamic. That's why we love it.
I must express my distaste for your notion that I think Aang is not as ideal of a partner for Katara simply because he is less traditionally masculine than Zuko is. I love that Aang is comfortable with who he is. I hope that someday all men can feel comfortable with their traditionally masculine and traditionally feminine traits in the same way that Aang does.
Lastly, I've already said my issue with Kata*ng has absolutely nothing to do with looks. Stop saying this. It's a dumb argument. I don't like Kata*ng because Aang does not respect Katara's boundaries. That is something I cannot support in good conscious. It's disgusting.
⚠️Slight discussion of what I would consider sexual assault below!!! I'll leave another little message to indicate the end of the discussion⚠️
Aang forces himself on Katara on screen. There is absolutely no excuse for this decision. It is a horrible example for anyone watching. It violates Katara's boundaries. She is visibly upset and verbally angry with him for doing it. Aang does not even have to apologize to her or face any consequences for it. I am so angry about that and I will never stop being angry about it. I am going to move on because I am physically shaking with rage, but I will state very clearly that if Zuko ever violated Katara in that same way, I would be furious and I would not ship Zutara.
⚠️Potential sexual assault discussion is over⚠️
I have even more reasons to dislike Kata*ng on a personal level, which I mentioned in that same post you're talking about. It just proves to me that you either did not read the post in its entirety due to your blind rage or completely discounted my personal experiences. If you did the latter, it's extremely frustrating.
Personal experience is just that, personal. If someone says something makes them uncomfortable based on things that have happened in their life, take it seriously. That goes for people who ship Zutara too. Neither of us should be dismissive of feelings we do not fully understand. If Zutara makes you uncomfortable based on your life, that's completely valid. If Kata*ng makes you uncomfortable based on your life that's completely valid. It's your life.
Now anon, I suggest reading things a little more carefully to avoid confusion in the future as well as blocking tags you find irritating or distressing.
