80 minutes on the female gaze and frills. Not a word about the particularly waif-like skinny white actresses.

"The revolutionary work of french female directors" . 90 awful minutes on 'daring' to explore women as you would men. Like there's something feminist about making movies about horrid women bullies and #girlbosses. Like we have any exploration outside of the upperclass. Like us delving into a wierd bored sadist's life is groundbreaking because it's a woman.

I love media analysis, I really love being told about references and hidden signs and how the colour red means this. I watched a great review of how predator switched genres and turned aahnold into a final girl. I also love the ones that will start out by saying "ok let's get this out of the way: there hasn't been any character with depth darker than a milky tea in this guy's work in 8 films and he treats bisexuality like it's a disease this is gross, with that said they have a lot to say about clinical depression, let's get on to the use of doorways as a motif."

People will spend hours watching "ending explained" videos and reading about how Ed, Edd, n Eddy is set in purgatory or some such barmy nonsense, but the moment you tell them a piece of media was motivated by racism or corporate interest in affecting public opinion or the Pentagon's funding suddenly you're reading too much into it.
