early op/dc au fic plot points

in honor of finding my notes finally after five months have passed since writing them and after i just wrote out a huge block of what happens during part one of the fic relying entirely on memory and wit alone, here are some freebie things-that-will-definitely-happen (and just random Things to throw in between) to think over while i'm trying to get back into writing this fic

also tagging @kiteou who created jason/sabo and 100% inspired this verse (please look at their ship art it's all so impeccably goooood)

sabo wears make-up to cover his scar when he goes crime fighting and chooses to hunt criminals in a distant district of gotham to avoid being recognized since he doesn't wear a mask

though he doesn't weak a mask, he does adorn a large tophat with a wide brim and uses the shade to conceal his face from view; when he runs into jason and snarls about a hero not posibly wearing a fucking full-face helmet mask, jason argues back about protecting his identity and accuses sabo of being a hypocrite since his hat also hides his face

jason quotes old literature sabo has never heard of when he's trying to make the most of a situation (so rarely) and sabo scribbles illegible-chicken-scratch words in tattered notebooks when he needs to vent about Life in general (it's maybe his goal at some point to create an autobiography of life in gotham and how much It Sucks, Bad™)

sabo using a metal pipe as his choice weapon reminds jason of damian (he's in his bo staff days) in kind of a fond but wary way - this does not last; at some point the pipe scraping against concrete or brick sets jason off, triggering something in his subconsciousness bad enough to make him lose focus in a fight, and it gets to the point where he tells sabo they can't fight together anymore if he's gonna continue to use the pipe as a weapon

ace and sabo are 19 in the beginning because it takes place in fall, and jason is newly 20 - because of this, sabo is 5'9 and ace 6'0 but sabo wears platform and heeled (the heel is inside so it's not visible) boots when he plays vigilante so he's taller than jason by a couple inches; at some point when ace meets jason he implicates sabo's true height and sabo shouts at him (shut the fuck up, ace!) before ace can finish; even later on, sabo ends up at jason's apartment and when his shoes come off, he stands shorter than jason, much to jason's surprise; sabo admits gruffly that being over six foot makes a person more intimidating, which is his goal at night when facing off with criminals, but also insists that he's still growing (which he is, and eventually he doesn't need the boots to stand at 6'2 properly); even though ace is (barely) taller than sabo (just like he's barely older than sabo), he's still shorter than jason, which rubs him the wrong way (and sets off the comment about sabo's alleged height)

while ace is just trying to survive in gotham, owing nothing to the city that's chewed them both up in childhood and spit them back out again in adolescence, sabo chooses vigilantism in a bid to 'just do what's right, or at least try to'

^ going with this, ace and sabo both have awakened meta-genes that grant them fire powers; ace got his first and is proficient in using his powers - in contrast, sabo develops his after his accident that leaves a portion of his upper body scarred, and refuses to train or even try and control/subdue his powers at all due to his intense fear of fire; this causes daily strife because ace should be able to coach sabo through developing (or at the very least, getting under control) his powers so they don't cause accidents all the time, being the more experienced and honed of the two, but because he's never willing to overstep and always afraid of reigniting sabo's trauma, he never pushes sabo toward what should be the reasonable solution

aaaaaaaa smth smth jason being more experienced in relationships but none of them ever going well, versus sabo who's never been in love and doesn't know how to act, doesn't know how to be vulnerable in front of another person (who's not ace, but even then) or what's considered normal for their relationship status, and eventually having to tell all of this to jason to dispel some worries threatening to make him sick; jason tries his best to insist that sabo doesn't need to act a specific or certain way and that they were going to figure this out together and find what worked for them; in the beginning their "romantic" relationship is super dysfunctional and not much different from their status before when they were just friends, but it slowly becomes more functional when they start to clue in to what they and each other want out of this

i CANNOT find my notes which makes me sick (< actually i did!!! not long after i wrote this which makes me SO mad in hindsight) but in this verse jason runs around with roy harper and artemis crock, who are roughly the same age as him and sabo but have the dynamic they do in earth-16 when they're (sibling) in-laws, meaning, they get along like a tight pair and often will team up to lovingly tease jason whenever the opportunity present itself; when they're introduced to sabo, the initial reaction is them recounting ('oh so this is the boy you're always mentioning') various things jason has said about him and then low-key embarrassing the both of them with their teasing, so it takes a bit for sabo to warm up to them

after sabo is burned by a lighter and his make-up runs, jason believes his old face scars to be part of the fresh injury and rushes sabo to leslie's clinic to get seen; sabo is bandaged up and none of the staff ask questions about the vigilantism that would (tie him w illegal activity) but in the beginning when someone asks sabo a basic question in regards to the injury, sabo clams up; jason has to snap at him that (leslie) was a doctor and not the fucking cops, so would sabo please put an ounce of trust in someone for once and let them take care of him; sabo relents and lets himself be treated

when he arrives home with his eye covered, ace is shocked because sabo never lets anyone but ace bandage him up; ace asks what (the fuck) happened and sabo clams up, flinches back when ace tries to reach for the wrap, and snaps at him to leave it because an actual medical professional treated him for once; ace says smth like 'but you always let me patch you up' and sabo appeases him by saying he can redress the wound later when it needed changing, but right now, he wants it left alone; later ace gets to see the damage and immediately realizes sabo got burned which terrifies him, putting sabo's shying away from him earlier into a new light, and ace takes on a new perspective when he helps sabo tend to the injury in order to frighten sabo as little as possible

sabo lives with ace and rouge until zero year, when their apartment floods and rouge gets sick and eventually dies in the hospital without proper medical care; without rouge, neither of them go back to the house in coventry and instead spend most of the remainder of zero year in a church - despite spending a good portion of their upbringing from that point on around clergymen, sabo refuses to believe in a god that would let him and ace to suffer through life to the extent that they had, and when ace curses 'god damn' or 'oh god' sabo isn't even willing to humor it, always blunting insisting 'there is no god' that ace in turn always counters with 'it's an expression, sabo, it doesn't have to mean anything'

RWBY Reaction Part 1

So! Storytime: When the RT shutdown was announced, I was of course very sad, but I also got anxious, because a very dear friend of mine, @ajelementus had previously expressed the desire to watch RWBY with me, and at the announcement I was worried that we would not be able to, since at the time we didn't know if RWBY would be coming back. So, we found a time, and we marathoned all the way through RWBY over the course of about four days, finishing just ahead of the website deletion. I spent the whole time writing down our reactions, and now, in honor of RWBY being so back (!) I'm releasing them. This will be part 1, covering volumes 1-6. I'll do a second post later with V7-Beyond, and maybe I'll even release the RWBYxJustice League reactions too!

Actual reactions under the cut. Important note, I had already watched RWBY before, but AJ never had. My reactions will be black, AJ's green, quotes from the show in bolded red, and any other notes in purple italics. With that, let's get to it!

-”She's gonna lose because of the shoes, isn't she?”

-About the white fang “They are very bad shots.” “Although I suppose if they did hit we might not notice because of aura.”  “True.”

-“this doesn't make sense.”  Three seconds later “this doesn't make sense!”

-Blake kicks Torchwick’s head.  “Good shot.”  “He deserves that.”

-During the V2 finale “I don't trust them [Atlas] one bit.  They're gonna be the enemy, mark my words.”

-”I feel like there's something about the Grimm we're missing.”

-”I don't trust him.”  Ironwood “You have to trust me.” “I don't!”

-”The Amity colosseum flies.”  “Until it falls.  That's how it usually goes.”

-“I don't know who to trust.  These people are either evil or really bad at not being ominous.”

-”Silver, why are they being so stupid.”  

-”I don't want her to change. They're cute.  Don't ruin it.  Aaaaa!”

-“Wait, is this a show where people die?” (I laughed so hard at this.)

-We had to skip over Penny's death.  I told her what happened, but it was too much.

-“Grimm attack incoming” “Oh good, everyone's feeling super emotionally stable right now.”

-”They do not have enough airships for the evacuation.” 

-How did they get the Grimm on the airships?

-”Roman is way too casual to be participating in total civilizational collapse.”  “I get the feeling he doesn't know the big picture.  Then again, he's participating.”

-”Aha, they [the robots] ARE the problem.  Just not the way I thought.  Go Ruby go!”

-When the dragon emerged “That's great.”  (The most sarcastic I have ever heard her.)

-AJ’s least favorite character as of v3e11: Mercury.

-“Lie, steal, cheat, and survi-” “Well that was unexpected.  It was so random!”

-about Adam: “creep”

-”Well we're just dropping like flies.”

-AJ is doubtful that Oz is dead.

-In the tiniest voice I've ever heard from her:  “Pyrrha.”

-Wow that animation jump is bigger than I remembered.

-”I'm glad Ruby teamed up with Team Juniper.”

-Ooh boy, here she comes.

-I don't know what's wrong with Tyrian,  but it is not a small thing.

-Seriously, what is Oscar doing?  And why? 

-“I don't think that's gonna work.”  “big mistake.”

-“Right, then I will” Run for it.

-I forgot how great this music is.

-Me @ Jacques Schnee:  Blech.

-AJ about ironwood:  “I like him now, I was wrong, but I was right about the robots!”

-I reiterate:  whatever is wrong with Tyrian is not a small thing.

-Jacques is a terrible person.

-”Weiss needs to go to Ironwood.”

-As of now, Jacques is riding in AJ’s least favorite list, along with Tyrian.  Favorites are Jaune and Ruby again.

-”Qrow and Tyrian fight is cool.”

-”It's the shire moment.  [For Oscar]”

-Baby Ren is adorable and this episode tears my heartstrings.

-AJ doesn't think that the flashback in Kuroyuri has the characters' accents matching Ren.

-Poor baby Nora

-“You didn't drag us along, you gave us the courage to follow you.” “I knew I'd like this guy.”

-I'm literally crying, I forgot how much Ren losing his parents hurt.

-I hate the nuckelavee so, so much.  It makes the WORST sounds.

-“Go Nora!  Only close one of your boyfriend's hands around his ancestral weapon so he doesn't cut himself!”

-Weiss escapes:  “finally!”

-Watts really did just put his feet on the table, didn't he.

-AJ thinks Shay’s name is great.  I think he's a sleazeball.

-You startled my dog, Mr. Pilot man.

-Oscar's switch is creepy.

-AJ agrees with Nora.  

-I think Weiss would literally rather die than go back to Jacques, which is fair and valid.

-Oscar has jumped to AJ’s favorite.

-I love the old West music they keep giving Yang.  On a related note, AJ burst out laughing when Shay said he's dead.

-“I've known that Vernal is spring since the first time we saw her.”  (Me internally:  are you sure?)

-Qrow's list.  “That's not a good sign.”

-Raven’s voice is really nasal.

-I cannot believe a nomadic bandit tribe is hauling around all this crap.

-“Raven is a nosey spy.”

-“There's revelations left and right.”

-It's strange and amazing seeing Weiss defend Blake.

-“Someone didn't have her aura up and got the wind knocked out of her when she got divebombed.”

-“Oh look, he took off his armor.” “What was he saying about…”

-Watching this knowing all the songs is so cool, I'm catching way more details than the first time.

-“The return of the gun-chucks!”

-“Fennick is not so bright.”

-I love that Blake's crisscross straps are a Menagerie style.

-“[Cinder] needs to go down.”

-There's something wrong with Hazel too.

-AJ has called the healing semblance nearly ten minutes early.  Best guesser I've ever met.

-“That's a perfect semblance for Jaune.”

-After the raven reveal, “Should have gone with my original instinct.  We didn't know about the maidens then, but there was something.”

-Forever Fall playing when Jaune says he still believes Pyrrha!

-“I love how [Jaune's] semblance is what Pyrrha did for him.”

-“Why would you pose on something that's actively falling?”  “She can fly.”

-“It's interesting how there's layers of villains.  We don't like Raven, but we really don't like Cinder.”

-”What the heck is up with Emerald’s understanding of bones?”

-I forgot about Dee and Dudley.

-I didn't realize how early the diagonal checkerboard pattern showed up.  I think I saw it clear back at initiation.  Something to keep in mind for v9

-Cinder appears alive “Awwww”.

-“I was wondering what was up with the lady in the last season.”

-I never noticed that og Ozma sounds just like Oscar 

-Me and AJ @ the brother of light:  “what the heck?”

-Oh goodness, the unison guards.

-We decided it would be easier and include less ads if we just found supercuts on youtube for the Adam vs. Blake and Yang and Cordovan fights, so some stuff here may be out of order.

— rindou and (name) going on a shopping spree for new furniture for their new place.

— it was weird moving out from ran's place and several nights rindou couldn't sleep. even though he woke up to his partner laying peaceful beside him, the apartment still felt empty without his brother sleeping in the next room over.

— so after the 5th night of (name) waking up at three in the morning to rindou lounging on the balcony, a cigarette in hand, rindou took a day off and the two went shopping for little household items to make their small, one bedroom apartment seem more like home.

— they spend the whole day going from store to store. rindou follows behind his lover shyly smiling down at her as they happily coo over and daydream about where to place a decoration or a light fixture.

— definitely carries the bags. he isn't the tallest but he is definitely one of the strongest in (name)'s life. he enjoys it too! gives him a chance to flex his strength; carrying their shopping bags feeds his ego and gives him a sense of pride.

— knowing their favorite color is purple, rindou finds a pair of cute key hooks that pop open revealing white kitten/ inside when a key is hung from the bottom of the cats' boxes.

— rindou knows how much his roommate and lover likes their games. while the two were out, he sneaks off to an electronic store and orders a full, state of the art gaming set-up complete with a purple pair of cat-ear headphones and a purple gaming microphone.

— may have asked his brother to come over one day when mikey sent everyone home early to help set everything up while (name) was out at work. definitely shooed him out the door, though, once they were done. this was his surprise to (name), after all!! he wanted to see their face when he proudly lied and said it was all him!

— probably also got those tiktok room string lights but in purple for (name)'s and his home study. for their room his got the same lights but in white.

— both are usually pretty good when it comes to going to bed on time. but sometimes, rindou would stay up late mixing music one headphone on while (name) sits beside him on their computer farming a domain or playing through a quest.

— when they have a free moment/a free hand, they definitely, slowly entwine their fingers together.

— occasionally distracts (name) when their favorite character appears or when they're wishing on a character banner: "one kiss for every wish." gets a little jealous when they talk about how pretty their favorite characters are, hence the kisses, gentle touches, and affectionate nicknames (i.e. princess, my sweet girl, baby girl, doll, my queen, etc.) whenever a certain character appears on the screen.

— he still adores them though and loves to see them happy and smiling. bonten is well-known, wealthy organization, after all, and gladly replenishes (name)'s crystal top-up for them. also got into their favorite games and will co-op with them and give them assistance and advice with certain domains or bosses or character builds.

— one of the most patient men in tokyo, regardless of what other rival gangs and coworkers say. and that definitely shows when the the couple spend quality time relaxing in (name)'s favorite region simply exploring together after a long day.

— lets (name) sit on his lap while they play and rewarding and teasing them with surprises kisses and nose bumps.

— rindou isn't too big into skincare and haircare, unlike his brother ran. but he does the bare minimum, at least. will settle in together in the tub or shower and wash each other's backs and hair massaging their scalps and shoulders for each other. after they're all clean, (name) will do rindou's skincare routine.

— the soft, admiring, loving look rindou gets in his eyes as (name) rubs the moisturizer into his face and across the bridge of his nose. he cannot resist pecking their face with kisses. loves to hear his giggles as he does so.

— lots of "i love you, princess" and "how did i get so lucky?" will immediately get shut down, though, the second he says "i don't deserve you."

— once their skincare routines are done, he snuggles up to (name) pulling them close to his chest. loves it when (name) traces the huge, matching tattoo he got with his brother. definitely groans and hums as their fingers brush against his collarbone and his ribcage.
