Oc introduction: Katyusha from Ambrose Summer Vacation

After seeing some really fun oc introductions (@rottent33th) and the very cool blog belonging to @the-pinstriped-hood, I thought that perhaps it's time I also formally intoduce Katyusha. I hope it's okay that I jumped on the bandwagon and let me know if you prefer the tag removed. Her personality is playing a bigger and bigger part in the story she is in than I had ever expected when I started writing The Ambrose Summer Vacation, a poly Sinclairs fic.

It was difficult to give visual shape to her personality and the way she influences the narrative, since I am only a sporadically visual person. But here it is :)). Thank you for reading my fic and I hope you enjoy giving this a look too, if you like.

Katyusha's journey through the story is one closely tied with who is is, and how she has been perceived throughout her life. In Ambrose, she is a foreigner. The town feels wrong to her and she feels wrong to the town, but Ambrose is patient for her to unfold and show who she will become inside it. To Vincent, she is his muse; a subject to draw. To Bo, she is useful and good entertainment. For herself to navigate these dynamics that she had no say in, she will have to be careful and learn to show her true nature - after all: suppressing your essence will only get you so far.

As the twins grow accustomed to her presence and her influence, she finds strength and relief within herself - in who she is and where she came from. She has to, as Bo and Vincent are demanding, impulsive, volatile. The old Sinclair house is affected by them all, and the house grows warmer as the days cool down into Autumn.

Ambrose has something unique to offer to any who comes across it. To many, that is the unlucky embrace of an untimely death. To the wax inhabitants it is a stage, a mockery of life. To the twins it is their haven, their life's work, their everything. For Lester, it is the place he can't seem to escape from. And for Katyusha, it can be anything she makes of it.

Wriothesley knows he's in for one of your long-winded lectures when you find out. He knows you're gonna chew his ear off, and that he'll sit through it and give you his whole attention like a good husband, but in the same way that he can't resist it when you ask him of something, he can't resist when his kids beg him for something either.

"Daddy, daddy!" Thomas yells right into his ear, making him wince. "What's that over there?" Thomas points one of his short arms at the entrance to the pankration ring's elevator, eyes glittering with curiosity. Sitting on his opposite arm, cradled to his chest just like his brother, Edward shares the same look.

"That? Oh—" He stutters for a second, wincing internally. He can just tell how much you're gonna tack on to your lecture later if you find out he brought your kids into the pankration ring. "That's... daddy's old workout place. Nothing cool to see there, bud. Haha. Hey, do you guys wanna see what Miss Sigewinne is up to—"

"Let's go there daddy!" Edward exclaims, trying to jump up where he sits, making Wriothesley quickly have to brace himself to not fall. "We wanna see where you practice beating up bad guys!"

"It's... Let's— Uh."

"Let's go daddy!" Thomas says, gripping his collar and tugging it as if to try to lead him there like a horse.

In unison, they chant: "Let's go let's go let's go!"

And Wriothesley can do nothing but sigh and let his kids tug him where they want him to go.

By the time he's getting back into the elevator to head back to the administrative area, he can say he's a little winded. Just a little, mind you. His kids, however, are bursting with life after they'd damn near forced him to show them every single nook and cranny of the fortress.

Oh he's in for such an earful later.

As Thomas and Edward continue to chatter to him about how cool the fortress is, how nice the people are and how awesome they think their daddy is (that last part makes him smile; makes him puff his chest out just a little bit more) Wriothesley nods along with each thing they say. Adds in a little bit where he needs to, corrects a couple details, but generally lets them prattle on about what they've seen.

"I wish mommy could've come with," Thomas says with a pout, and Edward nods. "I bet mommy has a lot of stories about this place, too."

"Haha—" Wriothesley laughs, but it's a little strained. "Y— ahem, yeah, mommy's been busy with work today, so how about we don't mention the tour today, hm? I'm pretty sure that mommy's gonna be super tired at home so we shouldn't—"

The elevator doors open then, and there you stand, eyes narrowed and arms crossed over your chest. Staring into his very soul.

"—make a lot of noise. Hi, sweetheart."

Your boys, however, all but jump for joy at your appearance, hopping out of their father's arms to run and cling to your legs. "Mommy! You're here!" They both cheer, grinning brightly. And for a moment, your cold rage at your husband is tempered as you crouch to their level, offering them a small smile.

"Hey, beetles," you coo, as they grab one hand each and clutch it tightly. "You two have fun running 'round the fortress with daddy the whole day? I bet you two saw lots of sights."

"We did!" they say excitedly, and in a blur of words and exclamations, they both try to tell you all about the things they've seen with their dad. You let them talk for a bit, smiling and nodding, before you gently interject.

"Sounds like you two had quite the day with daddy. Let's go back to his office— I have some snacks that Miss Sigewinne laid out for us."

They cheer once more like the little boys that they are, releasing your hands as they run back in the direction of Wriothesley's office, barely slowing their steps when you yell, 'Be careful!' behind them. Then you turn to the man himself the glare back on your face as he grins a little sheepishly at you.

"Before you start!" He says, holding a hand out placatingly, "I didn't plan to give them the whole tour. I was just gonna bring them to the cafeteria, then they got curious and... well... you know how they can get. "

You just sigh, the tension in your shoulders easing just a little. Because you do know how they get, and you know that Wriothesley can never say no if they ask nicely enough. It's one of his greatest weaknesses.

"Just— Please tell me you didn't bring them to any of the more dangerous places, please?"

And he has the audacity to snort. "Okay. I won't tell you then, sweetheart."

Alternatively, merfolk, knowing how cruel the sea can get, are overprotective of their young and keep them close on a tight leash until they're old enough to fight back. After a few centuries of this, the young elvers would most definitely be instinctually drawn to their parents for care and protection. Whoever's more clingy just depends on who's the primary caregiver when they're young.

I really love the idea that because Artemis and Apollo as deities don’t seem to have originated from the same cult as siblings and weren’t always associated with each other, instead later being worshipped together as siblings (and as twins, much later-ish!), you could write them as found family twins. Undoubtedly-platonic soulmates (this would fit bc some very old texts claim that they were married instead, which could be explained with “people assumed they were romantic soulmates until they firmly asserted that they were not remotely into each other like that at all.” (they are very scary) instead besties and found family siblings.) Given that their initial association with each other may have been so due to their similar domains at the time (disease, hunting, protection & death of the young, music and dance, as far as I can remember!) you could absolutely have them being freaky weird hunting and disease young gods who saw each other in the woods one time, realised they shared similar interests, hung out and IMMEDIATELY pack-bonded and went “I WILL NOW KILL FOR YOU!!” They are best friends and siblings and family and also so very codependent. They kept pointing at each other going “TWIN!! BUDDY!!” and the universe went “yeah sure” and they’ve been twins since for thousands of years!! Through everything!! Do not separate them!! AAAAAAAAAA

AAAAAAAAAA SO I RECENTLY FINISHED ACT ONE AND IT'S REVEALED THAT LYNEY AND LYNETTE ARE WITH THE HOUSE OF HEARTH (a Fatui organization overseen by Arlecchino, who everyone calls Father; this also gives me so many ideas about a Promised Neverland au hehe, but I digress). Lyney admits to the Traveler after the trial is over that he is indeed a Fatuus and that he's with the House of Hearth, but that he and Lynette only wish to help save the people of Fontaine from the prophecy, which (according to him) is also Arlecchino's goal. She saved the twins from an abusive noble when they were both young and thus offered shelter and protection to the twins because they both had similar plans.

So, after hearing this information, naturally I had to think about what he might be like if he was more than just a Fatuus but a powerful Harbinger. >:) omg can you imagine how easily he would be able to hide such a scary, secret identity? And you'd completely underestimate his strength, too swept up in his theatrics to even question things. You fail to see the soldiers who lurk in the shadows, watching over you and Lyney, ready to strike should you prove to be a threat to the Lord Harbinger. Lyney seems so harmless, albeit a little silver-tongued, but he appears to be just a kind magician dedicated to his craft.

You have no idea this same magician holds so much power in the palm of his hand, commanding troops and having a seat amongst the rest of the Tsaritsa's Harbingers. Lyney doesn't take any twisted enjoyment in frightening you. Rather, he loves you and wants to show you all of the pretty, pleasant sides of the world, even if the concept of love is abstract and foreign to him; and he isn't one who truly understands romance in all of its capacity. But the love (infatuation) he feels for you is so special. You can't blame him when he frets over you and your safety. You can never be too careful! He's just looking out for you; ignore those undercover Fatui agents who seem to linger near and around your house and other places you frequent.

Lyney isn't hollow, though. He's smart and calculating, but he isn't a monster devoid of emptiness. He only goes as far as he must, never pushing it unless he absolutely needs to, but when you've witnessed so much misery and bloodshed over the years, whether directly or indirectly, you'll become numb to the horrors. He promises you won't be hurt so long as you just listen to him. Please let him explain. He never intended to deceive you! This was just...an unfortunate happening. Really, he'd rather you remain blissfully ignorant to who he is outside of the sparkling title of magician.

But it's all right. He'll fix this. After all, he's a renowned magician who can make anything and, by that extension, anyone disappear. Only, unlike on the stage, you won't be reappearing. And it isn't magic that keeps your disappearance sealed shut, but you can pretend it is when you wake in his home, pampered and waited on. Lyney only wants what's best for you. But sometimes even the sweetest romances are tinged with a little difficulty and angst. This he understands well enough.
