The Crusade

Brief History

Before the 2012 David Production anime, there was another adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure done in 1993 by Studio A.P.P.P. (Another Push Pin Planning). It was 6 episodes long and adapted the Stardust Crusaders Battle in Egypt arc. In 2000, Studio A.P.P.P. adapted the beginning of Stardust Crusaders. These were 7 episodes long. All 13 episodes had a half an hour run time. In 2007. Studio A.P.P.P. released a film adapting the first part of JoJo, Phantom Blood. According to viewer testimonies, the film was roughly 90 minutes long and ran for 3 months in various cinemas. After that, it was never seen again. All that exists now are the 16-minute workprint, 2004 teaser, 2 trailers, and various promotional materials. 

What I’m doing on this blog

I simply want to bring attention to the JoJo OVAs as they were a brilliant piece of media and criminally underrated. I also want to provide content for fellow fans and provide resources to be able to watch them. In addition, I want to bring attention to the Phantom Blood movie so there could eventually be some sort of full release. I will be doing all this by

creating my own original content (in the form of clips, text posts, homegrown shitposts, and more if I ever gain new skills)

reblogging content from other creators (art, gifs, and shitposts)

providing information

advertising other’s works (outside of Tumblr)

and more (if I think of more)

Even if I go dormant at least my resources will be archived :) (I am a university student so I may be slow)

Where can I watch the OVAs? (EDIT: 16/03/2023 Notelu’s restoration is down)

There are two places I go to to watch the OVAs. Notelu’s restorations on Internet Archive and aniwave. Do not watch the ones on YouTube as the quality is less than ideal (to say the least). We mean stretched footage and overly saturated colours, and in some cases bad audio delay.

It truly is a bizarre case. The search for it has been quite an adventure too but sadly the leads we get tend to be dead ends :( We have not even been able to find why the movie was shelved in the first place so we just have to go off speculation (the most plausible was the Quran controversy) since people behind the film, Junichi Hayama for example, have chosen to make no comments on the shelving which is unfortunate. Who knows, maybe one day but some miracle the movie will be public

How many of y’all know about the lost phantom blood movie because it’s genuinely fascinating. Like it was made by the same people who made the stardust crusaders ova to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Araki writing jojo that three year to make. Just vanished it was only in theaters when it released in 2007 and then nothing. There no home release so it was left to rot. The only footage that we have is from a dedicated group of jojos fans that are devoted to finding it you can see said trailers on YouTube and the first 16 minutes of the movie which was uploaded by a student who was given the footage with only the music for a class. The footage only has music and sound effects added by the student for the project added by the student meaning that there is no dialogue. Also there was a theme song that was made for the move called voodoo kingdom by SOUL’d OUT. The song is really good and is supposedly written with the perspective of dio in mind. Also there is a bunch of cut content from the manga. For a tragic example the character of Robert E.O. Speedwagon was cut. The charaters of straizo, dire, and poco were cut. They were ultimately replaced in regard to their role were replaced by Will Zeppeli who was given a much more important role in the movie. Also from what we know about the movie it was much more focused on Jonathan and dio’s relationship. Sketches, frames, and concept art for the movie have also been found.If I had in any way got you interested in the phantom blood movie I strongly suggest you to check the trailers for it. Also there are YouTube videos that go into much more detail than I possibly can in one tumblr post.

I still can't get over this inexplicable piece of OVA promotional material. Jotaro never gets an injury like this in the series. Jotaro's undershirt never gets damaged like this. Neither Dio nor the World (unfortunately) ever scratch Jotaro like this

I believe there was a video on youtube that combined the game dialogue with the 16 minute footage. I couldn't find it but if you want to try search for it please feel free and tag me if you do :)

I wonder something.

We have sixteen minutes’ worth of footage from the Phantom Blood movie. The PS2 game also based on Phantom Blood apparently has a lot of the same voice actors as the movie (not surprising since the game is meant to be a tie-in). I wonder if what the acting originally sounded like could be partially reconstructed with voice lines from the game? There is at least one scene exclusive to the movie, though, so that particular scene probably couldn’t be done.

I don’t know that any of the lines would sound exactly as they originally did, considering that the game seems more faithful to the manga than the movie, but it might be worth a shot.

Ending the happy new year greetings. New MANKAI Company will also celebrate the 2nd anniversary. Theater members are also increased, and I suspect that the fans who support us are also increased. And this, Theather blog will also enter the age of 1 year...

That's why starting today, theater members will update their blog every day. Create content that includes introducing them self, and asking questions to the next update. Must answer the question given. That's the rule. I plan so that all the fans who have supported us for this one year who might just know us can have fun together. Well, to spend time on New Year's holidays.
