Some Notes from the Third

Auston Matthews heads to the box for high sticking Pickering, Penguins go back to the power play for the fourth time tonight. They scored on their first power play in the first period and haven't been able to connect since.

5:34 PGH GOAL ! - BUNTING CONNECTS IN FRONT OF THE NET ON THE POWER PLAY!! It's his 6th of the season and fourth on the power play.

This period has been so physical, with a lot of missed calls too....

Penguins get stuck in their own zone again for over a minute and a shot rings off the post.

These Nylander boys getting away with a lot of missed calls but the Penguins finally get one and head back to the power play. They are not able to connect on this one.

Glass gets slammed to the ground and no call is made... I don't complain much about officiating but man it's hard not to when there's super obvious calls being missed.

Geno has a breakaway chance and mishandles the puck, slipping it to the outside of the net, he attempts to pass it to DOC who shoots it but Woll gloves the shot. Incredible chance by the Penguins to add insurance.

Rust gets sent to the box for an overexaggerated high-sticking call after the officials miss one on Pettersson. Mike Sullivan is absolutely furious.

Leafs pull Woll to make it a 6v4 and the Penguins win a HUGE stick fight in their zone to pull the puck away.

Penguins win and extend their home winning streak to four games. Tristan Jarry picks up his fourth straight win, which is absolutely huge. He looked great tonight and came up with huge saves in the right situations. Especially those breakaway chances from Nylander and Tavares. Penguins score three unanswered goals, two of which were empty netters and the other was a power play goal. The team moves to 12-13-4, 8-6-2 at home.

Jarry - 25 of 27 shots saved, .926% SV. He looked VERY good tonight.

End of the First: PGH 0, OTT 1

Notes from the end of the first period

Three minutes into the period there have been no shots on net.

Some good sticks so far from the Penguins, Tomasino breaking up a few shots from the Senators.

The Penguins look like they're playing with some pep in their step, a good chunk of the ice time so far in the period has been spent in the Sens o-zone.

Geno had a really nice breakaway chance on Ullmark but the goalie poked it away before Geno could drive it into the net.

7:34 OTT GOAL - Claude Giroux stays patient with the puck and wraps around the net, drawing Jarry out. Thomas Chabot takes clear advantage of this and the collapse around the net and walks in for the first goal of the game. 1-0 OTT.

Wow.... Ullmark with the save of the night in the first period. Geno sends a pass up ice for Bunting who takes a shot and draws Ullmark out of the net. Karlsson goes for the clean up and Ullmark absolutely robs him and blocks the shot with the shaft of the stick. Unbelievable.

9:18 left in the period and the shots are OTT 7 and PGH 3.

This top line is due for some more goals tonight, especially Sid who has been goalless since the Utah game where he collected his 600th.

Physical game so far, Marcus Pettersson got trucked and walked right down the tunnel. Really awkward landing for Pettersson who kind of split and slammed right into the boards.

Penguins and Senators trading a lot of chances in this first person, but the Sens have the edge in shots.

Bunts had another breakaway chance but was outnumbered.
