Oh, and Hestia and 11 for Harry Potter asks!
11: who's your favorite non-human character?
To be honest, my favorite non-human character is either Dobby or Aragog.
Hestia: describe your ideal house
I actually had a friend ask me this the other day and it's quite long. But the short of it is a 2 story, stone cottage that looks like a witch hovel.
Scene
You turn off the street through a rod iron, ivy covered gate, Down a treelined rough brick drive, the house is hidden from the road by trees and the gate that is half cobblestone half rod iron with ivy spilling over the top in spots. The house is seemingly placed on a pedistul with rock stairs built into the hill from the drive that leads to a rock path through the small lawn that is littered with purple thyme and wildflowers that grow about ankle height.
Surrounding the house is a small cluttered garden of herbs and flowers purposefully creating a wild forest of witchy and homeopathic ingredients that smell divine. There is a well positioned porch that wraps around the opposite side of the house with more potted plants littering around a few chairs and an end table which holds a vintage bed warmer being used as an ashtray. The front door is purple and rounded at the top. With 2 mini windows in it and iron support bars acrost the wooden panelling.
Inside the front door there is a little stone tile entryway with shoes littering the wall to the right behind the door with hooks for coats . To the left there is a small table against the parallel wall with mail and a bowl for keys and an umbrella stand with hats and scarves and leashes for the animals. Passed the entryway the floor changes to older wood flooring, at the end of the wall to the right opens to the dining room with a rough cut, viking style, repurposed wood table with 8 chairs atop an area rug. The table has a hidden leaf to accommodate the 4 chairs stored at various places against the walls of the room. There is a beautiful Victorian style China cabinet filled with a variety of different china patterns on the far wall. There is a buffet table on the adjacent wall (across from the large window that faces the lawn) with a lovely doily runner and dried flowers displayed with tall candlesticks on either side and a crystal candy dish on one side filled with butterscotch and peppermint candies. There is a sliding pocket door beside the buffet table that leads to the kitchen.
The kitchen is a moderate size with vintage tins for each bulk ingredient, drying herbs and flowers hanging all around. There is more ivy growing around the cabinets, which have fogged glass doors, and the bottom cabinets have curtains. There is a garden sink with a window looking out to the wrap around porch and an island in the middle with a grate hanging above it which stores baking pans and hangs pots/pans and various other things. There is a door way to the left of the door you just came through that leads back to the hallway and a walk-in pantry to the right with a hidden root veggie and wine storage beneath a trap door in the floorboard. On the opposite wall of the pocket door you just came through between the oven and the refrigerator, there is a farm door that leads out to the back part of the porch with a secondary screen door.
Going through the door to the left you're back in the entryway/hallway where you can see into the open livingroom passed the bottom of the stairs. Beneath the stairs there is the half bath, a simple toilet and sink set up. The livingroom has a small library in the front of the house surrounding a bay window that doubles as a comfy reading nook crapped in vintage lace curtains. (There is no TV!) There is a wood burning fireplace in the center of the far wall an alter is set up on the mantle with a swing arm that holds my cauldron over the fire fronted by a couple of wingback chairs. To the right further in the house there is a Victorian style couch with a small but long coffee table (with floor pillows stored underneath) facing a TV mounted to the wall surrounded by mounted gaming systems and music system complete with record player. In the corner there is a closet with records, movies, internet router, board games, blankets, and other various things.
Up the wooden stairs the floor the center of the layout is hall with 5 doors. The hallway in the upper floor curls to the left. And there are 2 doors on the left, one ahead, and 2 on the right wall and on at the end of the hall to the left. The closest door is at the top of the stairs to the right. Which leads to an office/library/craft room with shelf's lining the walls except the wall with the window which has a work desk that houses my computer, various printers (3d philament/resin, ink, and graphite), and the scanner. There is a closet to the far right which houses various tools, fabric, etc. In the middle of the room is another work table that looks more like an oversized cutting mat with a few chairs and stools surrounding it. Looks like we've had more than a few paint and marker fights over it. There is a rocking chair in the corner with a small foot stool that has a lovely crochet throw over it for reading when I don't want to go downstairs.
Back in the hall the next door is a full bathroom which has a lovely larger than standard tub in it with a small cabinet over the toilet and a farmhouse washing basin style sink. It is more of a vintage meets farmhouse style guest bathroom. With tile flooring and a small window with a stained glass. There are a few hooks for towels behind the door and on the wall beside the tub for easy access. A few small fluffy rugs to keep people from leaving puddles on the floor. The curtain for the tub is wrap around with some sort of quilted pattern on it. It's not a huge room but is big enough to bathe the baby while your teenager tries to fix their eyeliner in the mirror. Lol
(All of the floors are wood with at least one area rug in it to accent the color or mood of the room)
The next door you come too is a guest bedroom. It is about the size of the office with a queen sized bed pushed almost against the far right corner. There is a small end table with a lamp allowing for a bit of walking room between the bed and the far wall (opposite the door). There is a small chest of drawers across from the bed to the right with a vanity mirror and a vintage washbasin on top complete with pitcher and handtowel. Beside it is a small door to a closet with extra linens and pillows. It's relatively empty other than a few extra things like winter coats and a few hidden Christmas gifts for next year and a forgotten golf bag that dad left last time he was there to visit. Beside the door to the left there is a taller chest of drawers with a few pictures of family get togethers and fun memories on the walls. There are two windows one that overlooks the backyard and one that is on the wall opposite the door. It's simple cute and cozy.
The next door is the kids bedroom. (If I have three the guest bed will be the oldest siblings room before they move out and the younger two will more than likely be twins so they'll share or will segregate boy/girl etc.) The kids room is bigger than the guest room. With a bed coming out of the middle of the wall to the left. To the right there is a large mirror-double-doored wardrobe which houses clothes, shoes, uniforms, hats, winter wear etc. In the Tob there is a shelf for a few extra linens for sleep overs or whathaveyou. There is again 2 windows. There is a blown glass style window above the headboard of the bed which has a drapey sheer curtain that falls behind the bed, and there is a more stained glass window to the wall opposite the door that is behind a sort of work desk littered with books and papers and a laotop. Their school bag hangs by one shoulder strap off the chair. There is a more modern floor lamp beside it with a rubbish bin beneath it overflowing with wadded paper. There is a bookshelf to the right of the desk between the wardrobe and the wall full of novels and a radio/Bluetooth speaker. It also stores games and other things my kid has collected (stolen from me) over the years. On the wall to the left of the door is a huge lovesac covered in laundry next to the laundry basket in the corner. There are a vanity to the right of the bed and a small end table to the left (between the bed and the wall). both are littered with books, jewelry, makeup, niknacks, chargers, and a lamp. I don't want to know what's under the bed, but there is a small chaise at the foot of the bed. There is enough floor space to have a blanket fort or a small sumber party of about 6 kids.
The last room is the master suite. You walk in the door, and there is an attached bathroom to the left. Through a door at the far corner of the room. The queen sized bed is rod iron, with a lovely victorian Italian feel to it. It is against the far wall coming out from the middle with an end table on either side (his and her style). At the foot of the bed there is a chaise with shoes underneath. To the right of the door there is a window that overlooks the front of the house, it looks to have a bit of a window seat for reading. There is a glider chair int he corner beside the window. With a foot stool infront of it. To the left between the glider and the bedside table seems to be a combination of a quilt rack and a Butler station with a hanging suit and a little surface with my husband's daily accessories on it (wallet, belt, cologne, rings, knives, etc). To the left of the entry door is a bit more witchy/girly. There is a small writing desk that looks to double as a vanity with a collection of vintage and antique niknacks with drawers and built-in storage for my jewelry, knives, stamps, stationary, passports, etc. Between the vanity and the bathroom door looks to be a 5 panel changing screen where I have a few outfits hanging on a vintage clothes rack behind it. my silky house coat and a towel seem to have taken residence draping over one of the screen panels. Through the bathroom door there is a larger garden claw-foot tub with a Waterfall showerhead that takes up the majority of the back wall. There is stone tile flooring that also lines the walls about a 3rd of the way from the floor. The sink is to the left of the door and is a bit modern and standard with cabinetry beneath in storing towels (extras included) as well as toiletries and toilet paper. There is a cabinet over the toilet to the right that stores most of my body and hair products including my husband's few various products for hair care and maintenance. There is a small stainglass window that lets in natural light between the tub and the toilet where the towel rack is mounted just below it. And there are a few hooks behind the door as well as right next to the tub(to the left) for towels and robes for dressing.
When you go back downstairs passed the half bath between the stairs an dthe livingroom there is a sort of mudroom/laundry room. That leads to the back porch (is about 8 feed from the kitchen door which is to the right) to the left there is a set of stairs that lead you to the little bit of a backyard that has a trampoline and an in-ground pool. There may be a 2 door garage to the left where the workshop is for building and restoring/fixing things along with a section for gardening stuff. I really hate grads do there will be little pads of clover and creeping thyme as well as little gardens lining the gate and overgrown ivy with a few trees--one has a tree swing. Maybe the kid and my spouse plan on building a treehouse soon. I probably have a little garden labarenth hidden in the corner somewhere to do ritual outside. Or offering or whatever.
Yea... That's my house.

Before & After Home Renovation with Pictures
Designed by Suzanne Bolling of Restyle Design, LLC, this home was a complete renovation! The interior designer took it down to the studs and redesigned the space for this young family. They opened up the main floor to create a large kitchen with two islands and seating for a crowd and a dining nook that looks out to the beautiful front yard. They also created two seating areas, one for TV viewing and one for relaxing in front of the bar area, and added a new mudroom with lots of closed storage cabinets, a pantry with a sliding barn door and a powder room for guests.
This home went from outdated and dark to funky and young. Although the entire home mostly features a white and grey color scheme, pops of tangerine brings a sense of happiness to this home. By the way, tangerine will be the color of 2019!
Feel free to pin your favorite “Before and After” transformations. I did a few collages so you guys would see how this home used to look before the renovation. These are always fun to look at, right?

This is random but it’s what’s been on my mind, and it’s nice to plan out dreams; it keeps the soul active.
My dream home pt. 1:
Starting with the backyard, I would love to have a semi-inground pool (or above ground) with pool lights installed within, and string lights hanging high above.
A Jacuzzi with decorative string above and around, a wooden jacuzzi frame, steps and deck
A garden dedicated to growing: fruits, vegetables & herbs protected by a squirrel/raccoon/skunk-proof fencing.
A cat playground, Full of climbing structures and canopies for my cats to enjoy, un-gated.
A backyard shed with multicoloured chevron pattern style for storing supplies & bicycles
An area with comfortable seating with a movie projector & screen mounted on a pergola. String lights hanging high above.
A fire pit and seating for bonfires and marshmallows with friends and family.
I would like a mini outdoor BBQ grill area with a wooden gazebo hanging over; either wooden or stone countertops. An outdoor-compatible mini fridge. Shelving space decorated with string lights to store alcohol when needed. An outdoor table with seating nearby.
The front of the house will have beautiful landscaping; green turf, low maintenance flowers and garden decor with a few lights. I will have to learn to love gardening after all.
The walkway path to the front door will be concrete or brick with lights illuminating the path. A front deck with comfortable seating and string lights.
Garage large enough to accommodate two cars side by side.
Space beside/behind house near backyard to park RV.
In the living room there will be wall-mounted cat shelves and a wall-mounted cat tree for my cats to enjoy. a massage chair, a large tv mounted on the wall with a inserted fireplace below, or a ethanol-fuelled fireplace. A large sectional couch with coffee table.
Four bedrooms; 2 guest bedrooms, 1 master bedroom & an additional adjacent bedroom that will be converted into a walk-in closet, enclosing organize shelves, bars and large mirror. The separating wall will be remodelled into a wall with large sliding doors, opening to the closet.
2 bathrooms. First floor bathroom will have a large soak bathtub. The master bathroom upstairs will have a large mirror, a spacious walk-in shower with dual shower heads &/or dual rain shower heads or 1 large rain shower head above, compatible for more than 1 person. Beside, the large soak bathtub, a tv on the wall ahead with a mini electric fireplace below.
The basement will be separated in two parts: 1st is a theatre room with a sectional couch & large tv with a surround sound system. Starry sky ceiling effect. 2nd room will be a Himalayan salt cave room. With 3 lounge chairs and 1 massage chair. Himalayan salt on the floor, Himalayan salt bricks as the walls. A waterfall in the corner, and a surfing sound system (for relaxing music).

"Pacemaker, mechanic yikes. You really are put here attacking me just to give me something new to talk about in therapy"
The doors open and Tony stands off the wall to go and lean back on the wall of the elevator. He's stroking his goatee absent-mindedly.
"What do you need glamours for, you're beautiful. Oh! That reminds me! I've shown you a fair bit if tech now and haven't seen much of your magic, I uses a copper alloy in the gloves to make them conductive but I'm not sure how they will work with your magic."
When the elevator doors open again they open to a one-room apartment. There is thin carpeted floors, the kind used in school libraries and office buildings. The carpet is a deep charcoal grey as is the soft leather couch visible from the doorway of the elevator. In front of the couch is a castiron coffee table with glass top covered in tech crap that screams impending disaster. However it's the only surface in the apartment that seems to have any kind of clutter. Perpendicular to the couch is an armchair of the same material oh, both the armchair and the couch have deep red crushed velvet throw pillows. On the opposite side of the coffee table is a black brick fireplace above which a TV is mounted.
The walls are lined with floor-to-ceiling windows wherever possible. A good ways behind the couch is a California King bed in dark wood with iron grey comforter but mahogany red Egyptian cotton Sheets. The bed space is parallel to a set of windows and there is a large privacy screen on the other side of a nightstand to block out the view of the bed from the window even though this is the tallest building in New York. Beyond the sleeping area is a little Nook kitchen complete with breakfast bar all done in castiron and dark wood with stone countertops.
Tony sits on a bench at the foot of his bed and removes his shoes kicking them under. He straightens and points down a hall next to the kitchen.
"The spare room is down there. It was it's own bathroom. You can use that to change if you want or to sleep in if you've changed your mind. Make yourself at home, the kitchen should be stoked if you need anything."
Sometimes being a superhero really sucked. Like when you had to go prompt a depressed middle aged man to get off his ass and get back to work.
“Seriously? Why me?” She huffed looking over at Wong.
“Because I don’t want to deal with Stark and you’re the Sorceress Supreme. I just watch the books.” He replied nonchalantly.
“I hate you sometimes.” She replied.
“No you don’t.” Wong tossed over his shoulder as he headed back to the library.
So here she stood, outside the avengers- sorry. What should be the avengers compound.
Steph took a deep breath, and portaled in looking over at Tony.
“Ya’ know you look better on the tv.” She remarks, her Irish lilt thick as she spoke.
She gave him a small sympathetic smile.
“My name is Stephanie Strange, I’m so sorry for your loss.”

37 Hours in Stowe, Vermont: A Perfect Winter Getaway for Outdoorsy Couples
As a native of the northeastern United States for more than twenty years, I’m biased in saying that it’s the most charming region in the entire country. And, even though I’m a lifelong Rhode Islander, no state is more quintessentially “New England in winter” than Vermont. Soaring mountain peaks, quaint valley towns, covered bridges over icy crystalline rivers, and couples packing their requisite Subarus with skis, kids, copious amounts of hot chocolate, the family dog, and … everything necessary for a day on the mountain.
Which is how Kelsey and I have come to love the town of Stowe, Vermont for our semi-annual romantic weekend getaway. Just an hour from the Canadian border, this tiny mountain town is best known as a year-round mecca for outdoor enthusiasts.
Winters offer some of the best skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and … well, you name it … in all of New England. And still, through decades of popularity amongst locals and tourists, it’s managed to maintain a picture-perfect small town feel.
Frankly, I’d recommend a visit any time of year. But here we provide a brief list of our favorite winter spots to visit in Stowe …
Day 1
Stowe is easily accessible by car from almost anywhere in New England or by plane with a quick stopover in a regional hub such as Logan or Manchester. With that in mind, plan to arrive by noon to kick off your 37-hour stay.
Lunch @ Cliff House
Mapletini at The Cliff House, Mount Mansfield, Vermont © Mike Richard
Start your long weekend with a breathtaking gondola ride up Vermont’s highest peak. Situated at nearly 4,400 feet above sea level, The Cliff House atop Mount Mansfield offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and the town of Stowe below.
As you might expect, lunch is a variety of hearty soups (the onion soup is fantastic), stews, and entrees with a mix of apres ski-inspired cocktails, like their unique Mapletini. While I didn’t order this, I did steal a sip from my Kelsey and I’m not ashamed to admit that it was quite tasty.
2pm / Snowshoeing @ Wiessner Woods
If you’re looking for outdoor kit, you need only make one stop in Stowe: Umiak Outdoor Outfitters. This small, unassuming shop is a hub for winter sports enthusiasts, offering virtually any type of rental including snowshoes (rentals around $20/day), skis, extreme sleds ($5-20/day), and more. And, if you don’t know how to use it, the staff is more than happy to provide a primer so you don’t kill yourself!
Snowshoeing Wiessner Woods, Stowe, Vermont © Mike Richard
There’s no shortage of outdoor adventure options in Stowe. I’d recommend grabbing a pair of snowshoes and a trail map from Umiak. Nearby Wiessner Woods is an excellent choice for your first outdoor fix in town, with a small network of relatively short paths, all perfect for a quick, “we’re only here for the weekend” jaunt. There’s no hunting and motorized recreation is off limits, so it’s an ideal spot for grabbing some peace and quiet and communing with nature.
From there, head to Marshall Hill at Stowe Elementary School for some extreme sledding. Once a beginner’s ski slope, it’s since been converted into a badass sledding hill with a nearly 100-foot drop. Beware: this slope is not for the timid! Bonus: the nearby playground at the school is a nice spot for the kids (or childlike grown-ups) to relax between sled runs.
If you need a post-sledding warm-up, PK Coffee serves great artisanal espresso drinks and their Logan’s Hot Chocolate is arguably the best in Stowe.
Dinner @ The Bistro at Ten Acres
Lounge at The Bistro at Ten Acres in Stowe, Vermont © Termineater Montreal
The Bistro at Ten Acres is a fine-dining French-meets-American restaurant disguised in a casual and thoroughly unpretentious atmosphere. Everything from the burgers (and buns!), marinades, and steaks are made from scratch and the service is excellent to boot. Splurge on the Pan Seared Lobster — arguably their signature dish, splashed in bourbon, tarragon sauce, and polenta.
Overnight @ Stone Hill Inn
I’m hesitant to tout raw numbers but, as recently as a few years ago, Stone Hill Inn was ranked #16 among more than 21,000 (!) B&Bs by TripAdvisor readers. It’s a picturesque boutique property designed for couples in search of the perfect romantic getaway.
Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, Vermont
While I’m typically more a fan of budget/boutique hotels, Kelsey and I fell in love with Stone Hill Inn the first time we stayed there in 2012. With few rooms, it offers all the charm and intimacy of a traditional New England B&B but with plenty of space to ensure every guest has complete privacy. We like to think of it as a bed-and-breakfast for folks who don’t typically like bed-and-breakfasts (read: us).
Fiddlehead Room at Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, Vermont
Every room features a warm, beautiful design, unique floor plan, and modern appointments. Our Fiddlehead guestroom was a corner suite with almost 500 square feet to relax and spread out. A double-sided fireplace warms the bedroom and bathroom simultaneously — a luxurious feature we quickly grew to appreciate, particularly after coming in from the brisk Vermont cold. The adjacent, ensuite bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom itself with an oversized spa tub, walk-in shower, and dual vanities.
Guest Lounge at Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, Vermont
Innkeepers Todd and Kristie Roling ooze Southern charm, and get to know every guest personally. An hour after we checked in, they knew us and every other guest by name. They’re kind, gracious, and inviting.
Common amenities at the inn include free snowshoe use (with onsite trails), unlimited use of their DVD lending library, and a common area where guests can gather and relax around a towering fireplace. Plus, there’s local wine and beer available from the front desk, and the guest pantry is always stocked with free fresh-baked treats, coffee, tea, and soft drinks.
Day 2
Breakfast @ Stone Hill Inn
Wake up early for breakfast at the hotel where it’s prepared fresh daily by Todd, Kristie, and their family. In addition to a selection of fresh fruits, yogurt, cereals, granola, and muffins, hot a la carte dishes inspired by locally sourced ingredients are cooked to order.
Chicken and Sweet Corn Waffles at Stone Hill Inn in Stowe, Vermont © Mike Richard
The breakfast literally became the highlight of every day of our trip. The Roling’s herald from Texas, and there’s a distinct Southern-inspired flair behind every dish. Especially notable: the chicken and sweet corn waffles with maple butter and spicy maple syrup. Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s are also available upon request.
9am / Zipline @ ArborTrek Canopy Adventures
ArborTrek Winter Canopy Tour at Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont
It’s no surprise that, with so much varying terrain, Vermont offers some of the best ziplining in the country, and ArborTrek Canopy Adventures is the best in the state. At their Smugglers’ Notch location, you’ll spend upwards of three hours in the Green Mountains traversing up to 4,500 feet of zip lines, crossing sky bridges high above the forest floor, and rappelling from trees. It’s an ambitious trip for sure, but no experience is necessary making it perfect for kids or first-timers. (Note: due to road closures during the winter season, allow at least an hour to travel between the hotel to/from ArborTrek).
Noon / Wine Tasting @ Boyden Valley
Wine in Vermont?! Wait … what?? It’s true. And more surprising is that it’s pretty damn good. There’s a shorter growing season to be sure, but that just means the wineries must be that much more clever and work that much harder at making great wine.
Boyden Valley Wine, Vermont
Stop at Boyden Valley Winery for a tour and tasting with wine room manager Bridget Jones. Her endless energy, bubbly personality, and encyclopedic knowledge of all things wine make for an educational and fun tour. Don’t miss their Ice Ciders and Glogg (mulled wine served hot with a variety of added spices)! There’s also plenty of take-home bottles on offer, with the Big Red being their best seller.
2pm / Lunch @ Bench
The Copper Tap Wall at Bench, Stowe, VT
Like most eateries in Stowe, lunch at Bench is a low-key, unpretentious affair. So come as you are, belly up to the bar, and be sure to sample a few things from their lengthy menu. It’s all about comfort food, so expect hearty fare like duck fat fries, wood-fired pizza, and homemade lasagna. Although, there are more “adventurous” specialties like wood fire roasted duck and salmon tacos. The beer list is solid and almost entirely local.
4pm / Massage + Relaxing @ Top Notch Spa
Indoor Pool at Topnotch Resort & Spa in Stowe
After a hearty meal, it’s time to unwind at Topnotch Resort & Spa. The award-winning spa at this five-star resort is routinely ranked among the best in the country. And with good reason: the changing rooms alone are the largest and swankiest of any spa I’ve ever visited, complete with large seating areas, flat-screen TVs, fireplace, and comfy couches. It’s a perfectly relaxed atmosphere akin to hanging out in your (rich) friend’s living room.
Opt for the uber-romantic, 90-minute side-by-side couples massage. You’ll enjoy a treatment room larger than some apartments I’ve lived in, complete with fireplace, couch, and chairs. And if you really love the person you’re with, splurge on an even longer treatment with optional accouterments such as sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries.
Treatments here include access to the spa’s numerous amenities: a sauna, steam room, indoor and outdoor pools, and a hot tub with a waterfall (this last bit alone is worth the price of admission). Spend the rest of your afternoon by the pool, where you can order light snacks and adult beverages while relaxing in your robe and slippers.
Or, if you really love beer, abandon all that frilly nonsense and …
6pm / Stock Up at The Alchemist
The Alchemist Brewery in Stowe, VT © Jess Graham Studio
There’s no shortage of breweries, brewpubs, and beer-related destinations in New England. But, The Alchemist might just be the pinnacle, the mecca. Beer lovers travel — in their words, pilgrimage — hundreds of miles to visit the brewery. The reason is simple: it’s among the only places on the planet to buy the beer fresh (the only other outlets are located in Stowe). Their Heady Topper is routinely ranked among the best in the world.
Tasting Room at The Alchemist in Stowe, VT © Mike Richard
For a few four packs and a T-shirt, our bill in the taproom came to more than $70. And you can expect to wait an hour or more (on a good day) to cash out. But, it’s worth every penny!
Visitors are only allowed a few four-packs per beer variety. So, be sure to stock up before you …
Dinner + Overnight @ Stone Hill Inn
Once you’ve had your fill of several hours of relaxation, head back to Stone Hill Inn. I recommend planning a night in. Specifically: order a pizza from nearby Piecasso (the “Carcass” is among the best meat lover’s pizzas I’ve had anywhere in the States).
Pizza from Piecasso in Stowe, VT
Then, grab your Heady Topper and head to the inn’s billiard room for a few rounds of pool before kicking back in your room where you can enjoy a movie (from the hotel’s free DVD collection) and one last glorious soak in your private hot tub.
It’s the perfect end to a busy weekend of outdoor fun, gourmet food and wine tasting, and a perfect trip to one of the most quintessential New England towns in the Northeast.

The Summer in Georgia
Chapter 13. Daryl’s House
Daryl lived about 12 miles from Rick. The road was heavily wooded on both sides, occasionally, they’d pass a house, but they were few and far between. The scenery was beautiful, Isabella thought. She had never seen trees like this. Her world was surrounded by sky scrapers, the only trees she saw were in the parks. She loved the country. She felt so free. Daryl slowed the truck as he came to a dirt circle driveway with a small frame house behind it. There was a small attached garage and there was a motorcycle parked in front of it. The house was ranch style. It had a screened in porch on the front and window flower boxes on all the front windows, but no flowers.
Daryl pulled into the driveway and parked.
“This is me.” He said, getting out of the truck.
“It’s so pretty.” Isabella said excitedly, as she jumped out the other side.
Daryl held the screen door for her as she walked up onto the porch. He unlocked the front door and let her walk in first. She walked into a big entryway with wood floors, there were hooks on the wall with jackets and coats hung on them. As she continued down the hallway there was double doors to her left, that led into a huge room with lots of boxes and some old furniture. She looked in.
“If ya’ gotta’ use the bathroom, use that one back there.” He said pointing to the back of the large room. “It’s clean. I use the front one up here and it ain’t no where a lady should be.” He said, pointing to another room just ahead at the end of the hallway.
That room was huge too. It was also full of boxes and furniture and a lot of mounted deer heads lying around on the floor. Off to the right inside that room was the front bathroom. Daryl took Isabella all the way into the bedroom. He led her to a big table toward the back of the room. There were a million photographs all over the table. Mostly of nature, but there were others of Rick, Charlie and the other guys down at the station. Against the inner wall of the room were storage cabinets and shelves filled with photography equipment and several cameras. At the very back of the room was another door that led into a small dark room. Isabella was surprised that Daryl was interested in photography. She was amazed at all the beautiful photographs, he really seemed to be able to capture the hidden beauty in things. She was very impressed and she, hoped that he would photograph her one day. The left the room and went back into the hallway.
As you rounded the corner at the end of the hallway there was a big kitchen on the front wall. Beside it was an empty room, that must have been the dining room. The sink, main counter and cupboards lined the front wall. There was an island stove in the middle of the kitchen and the refrigerator, other cupboards and counter were on the wall that separated the house and the garage. There were dirty dishes and takeout containers everywhere. A round table and 4 chairs sat on the other side of the island stove. On top was a laptop and some files. Straight ahead there was a doorway that led out to the garage. On the inside wall that faced the kitchen were several gun safes, several large knives and a crossbow hanging on a hook. Isabella figured he’d probably have weapons, he was a hunter and a country boy, but she never expected him to have so many.
On the back side of the house was the living room. As they walked from the kitchen area into the that room, off to the right there was a sliding glass door that led to a covered patio. This was set behind the garage. There were two sofas. One faced the back wall and windows and the other sat on the wall that bordered the bedroom with the deer heads. Next to the sliding glass door was a huge stone fireplace with a very large mounted deer head above it. Along the back wall sat a huge flat screened TV that stood on its own and in the corner, next to the sofa was a camouflage covered recliner. There was a glass coffee table and one end table that sat between the sofa and recliner. In front of the sofa was a makeshift bed. It looked like there was a thin mattress on the floor, covered with sheets, blankets and pillows. The living room was a mess, too. There were books and magazines all over the place. Dozens of beer bottles sat on the coffee table along with two or three ashtrays full of cigarette butts. There was no art or pictures on any of the walls and the carpet in the living room was filthy.
“It’s dirty. Sorry. I woulda’ cleaned a little if I knew I was bringin’ ya’ over today, but I didn’t.” Daryl said embarrassed.
“It just needs a little tlc and elbow grease, that’s all.” Isabella said, smiling and looking around. “I could clean it for you, if you want.” She offered.
“What? Nah. I’ll get around to it. I know it looks pretty bad, but it ain’t like I got people comin’ over all the time or nothin’.” He said.
“Well, I think it’s great. I can’t believe you built this with your own two hands. You must be so proud.” Isabella smiled. “Do you sleep here in the living room? You don’t have a bed?” She asked.
“I ain’t gotta’ bed. I just crash here on the floor.” He said, pointing to the pile of blankets on the floor. “I gotta’ lot of work to still do around here, but I ain’t in no hurry.”
“What’s out here?” Isabella said, looking out the sliding glass door.
“It’s a patio. Go on out and look, if ya’ want.” He said, pulling the door open.
She stepped outside on to a beautiful covered patio, with a couple of picnic tables and a porch swing on it. There was a huge grill near the door and lots of tools and auto parts lying around. At the end of the patio were steps that led down into a tree covered yard, where there were more tools and auto parts. The back of the house was all forest. Isabella turned and smiled at Daryl. Daryl lit up a cigarette and followed her around.
“You’ve got yourself a real piece of heaven, here. I love it. Do you ever have parties out here?” she asked, looking around the patio. “You could hang string lights along here.” She said, pointing to the rafters. “You could put a bar along this wall or just one of those galvanized water troughs filled with ice and drinks.”
“Never thought about that.” He replied, snuffing out his cigarette on one of the picnic tables.
She smiled and they walked back inside. He showed her the garage, which to her surprise was spotless and well organized. There were cupboards, tool carts, storage cabinets, a work bench, a freezer, another refrigerator a washer and dryer and in the middle of the garage was what looked like a half-built motorcycle. Everything was in its place. She was impressed. They walked back into the house and he closed the door behind them. He grabbed a set of keys off a hook on the wall, next to the door. He took one of the keys off the ring and handed it to Isabella.
“Here.” Daryl said.
“What’s this?” Isabella asked.
“It’s a key to my house in case ya’ ever need ta’ get in and I ain’t here. Ya’ can come over whenever ya’ want. It’ll be clean next time. I promise.” He said.
She smiled and took the key. “Thank you. I’d like to come and visit you sometimes. That would be fun.” She said, smiling up at him.
He smiled back and motioned for her to follow him. They walked into the big bedroom with the double doors. He led her to the back of the room where there was another doorway leading into another room. He pushed opened the door and let her walk past. It was the other bathroom. She was completely surprised. It was a beautiful bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower. The bathtub was a big old fashioned tub with feet. It had a high faucet that was set in the middle and it was deep and looked very comfortable. There was a pretty vanity and sink over in the corner with a window that overlooked the other side of the yard. This room was dusty, but in perfect condition. It was so different than the rest of the house.
“This room doesn’t look like it belongs with the rest of the house. It looks like a woman’s bathroom. Did you have a girlfriend when you built it?” she asked, dreading the answer.
“Nah, I built it for a woman though. I figured that I if I ended up sellin’ it, it could be a house for a family and shit. I thought a wife or somethin’ would like a bathroom like this. It would be like a sellin’ point, ya’ know whatta’ I mean?” He said proudly.
“That’s very good thinking, Daryl. It’s a beautiful bathroom. If I were a wife or something, I would most definitely want a room like this. You were smart.” She said, making him feel good. “What’s in these boxes?” she asked, walking back into the bedroom.
“Just a bunch a junk, I gotta’ go through and sort out. Most of it’ll probably end up in the trash. Just ain’t gotten around ta’ messin’ with it yet, that’s all.” He explained.
“If you need help, I’m always around.” She said, playfully.
He smiled at her and said, “I’ll keep that in mind.” They left the bedroom and walked back into the entryway. “Well, that’s it. Whatta’ ya’ wanna’ do now?” He asked.
Isabella shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know.”
“We could go back ta’ Rick’s and practice swimmin’, if ya’ want.” Daryl offered.
“I would like that a lot, but I don’t have a swimsuit.” She answered.
“What about Lori, she’s probably got one, right?” He asked.
She furrowed her brow a little and explained that you weren’t supposed to wear someone else’s bathing suits and things like that. Daryl didn’t know that, but it made sense to him, once he thought about it.
“Ya’ wanna’ go to the mall and get yerself a suit? They gotta’ lotta’ stores there. I’m sure you could find somethin’ ya’ like.” He assured her.
“I only have $85.00 left. My brother made me pay for my train ticket down here out of my $200.00, but I guess I could find one that I can afford. What do you think?” she asked him.
“I think yer brother’s a dick, but yeah, I’m sure ya’ can find somethin’. They got all kinds a stores in there. Come on rabbit, let’s go.” He said, pushing her playfully towards the door. She giggled and let him steer her out onto the front porch. He turned and locked the door and they headed to the truck.
“I gotta’ get somethin’ to swim in too. I ain’t got no suit, either. I usually just swim in my drawers or… butt naked.” He laughed. They climbed into the truck and headed to the mall. “We’ll stop for lunch afterwards, ok. I gotta’ great little diner I go ta’ on Sundays. Ya’ ever eat chicken fried steak?” he asked her as they drove down the road.
“No. Is that veal?” She asked, concerned. “Because I don’t want to eat tortured baby cow.”
“Nah, it’s just a tenderized piece of beef. It’s good, you’ll like it. I ain’t gonna’ make ya’ eat no tortured baby cow.” He said laughing at her. She laughed and punched him in the arm. A tenderized piece of beef, why not? She’d try anything once. Anything but tortured baby cow.

4 Apartments That Absolutely Nail The Grey Shade
Grey decor has never been so popular. As far as neutral shades go, grey reins supreme right now as a seriously chic and mature choice for homes big and small, from modest to amazing. Grey provides the ideal backdrop for a brighter splash of colour, or can be used as a stand alone shade. These four gorgeous home interiors have a combination of these two approaches. They also couple smooth shades of grey with textured pieces and natural elements for a varied visual, with lighting schemes that add drama and focus attention on special features. Many think of grey as a cold shade, but in these homes it is warm, welcoming and simply gorgeous.
Visualizer: Z Design This living room is like a dark grey cocoon of cosiness. It is an open plan room where the kitchen runs straight into the dining space and on into the lounge area. Despite the multiple uses of the room, the space feels completely calm and cohesive thanks to one serene colour choice.
A grid of hundreds of niches make up the tv wall decor and a feature wall by the dining spot. Mood lighting creates interesting light and shade over the installation.
The minimalist living room contains a super smooth sofas that are reminiscent of huge grey pebbles. A subtly textured rug adds dimension underfoot, beneath a low level white coffee table.
The dining set is made up of a wooden table and dining benches which bring a beautiful gentle warmth to the whole scheme. A couple of white dining chairs lighten up the set at the head and foot of the table.
A slimline linear suspension light illuminates the eating spot without drawing any attention to itself.
The razor edge of the suspension light almost disappears in front of the light kitchen.
Inside a grey bedroom, the warm glow of an LED strip light cuts the headboard wall in half.
The bedroom lighting promotes a restful atmosphere.
Visualizer: Anna Zarechnaya & Andrei Erokhin This living room dining room combo illustrates how to use a statement colour against a grey backdrop without overpowering it. This dusky pink shade tends to tone with the grey rather than cancel it out.
Beige has also been introduced to add lighter notes to the room, in the sofa upholstery and a modern area rug.
Raw concrete tv wall decor helps balance out the sweetness of the pink notes. A grey console unit sits beneath the wall mounted tv, blending in with its backdrop.
Above the sofa, a set of pink and grey shelves have been recessed into a nook. LEDs light the shelves. A swing arm wall lamp extends as a reading light over the sofa.
Wood and white nesting coffee tables perch atop the rug.
Framed mirrors have been given the dusky pink treatment in the dining area. The mirrored glass helps the room feel bigger too.
Grey marbled floor tiles run the length of the hallway, where grey closets line the walls.
Dusky pink base units and wooden wall cabinets make up the kitchen.
The L-shaped kitchen also contains a concrete breakfast bar, which is positioned to divide the kitchen from the lounge and formal dining area.
Visualizer: Kupinkskiy & Partners Green scatter cushions add a dash of the unexpected to this grey living room.
A red plant provides further contrasting colour at the other side of a monochrome area rug.
Padded seats top a dining bench at the breakfast bar.
A reading nook has been fashioned along the window wall. A wooden bench supports green seat cushions to lounge on.
A low grey console unit equips the tv wall, which divides the main living room from the bedroom.
The glass wall bedroom allows an unobstructed visual flow, and maximises the sense of space in compact living quarters.
Inside the bedroom the decor is ethereal. An all white bed set, throw, rug and feature wall add up to a clean and calming space.
However, the closets and a chest of drawers bring charcoal grey base notes to the light and airy ensemble.
Visualizer: Wu Design We’re met with a rustic living space inside this Kiev apartment.
Tree stump coffee tables nestle as a trio in front of a light grey couch.
The modern sofa is a sectional design which has been arranged in a U-shape to hug the lounge space, and keep the kitchen diner separate.
Stone clad tv wall decor reaches up to the rafters.
Gold statuettes decorate the console unit.
Seating has been arranged around a fireplace to create a cosy snug.
A comfortable reading chair with footstool and a rocking chair face into the modern fireplace, awaiting the spectacle of leaping flame.
A live edge dining table and brown dining chairs make up an earthy set.
The run of modern grey kitchen units pause at the centre of the wall, where a large window looks onto rolling green fields.
Lampshades are suspended from branches to make the rustic chandelier.
Black tableware suits the heavy rustic charm of the table.
Four swivel bar stools at the kitchen island have a industrial rustic charm.
A full length decorative wall mirror backs each of two pink stools in the hallway.
Sculptural art plays on the peaceful theme of the decor scheme that lies within the home.
The home layout plan better shows the location of the pink stools and sculpture plinth in the home entryway. We can see the two stools here next to a small sofa by the entry door.

Textural Interior Smoothed By Curves & Classic Arches
Slatted panels and natural stone bring deep and luxurious texture to this chic modern home design, visualised by ArtPartner Architects. The textural decor is smoothed by curvaceous furniture lines and graceful classic arches within the high ceilinged architecture. Large living spaces exude elegance under a delicate tonal colour palette of warm beiges and soft browns. Copper accents add a rich and lustrous element inside the captivating kitchen design, where a stone island lays down a solid anchor in front of a kitchen run that’s concealed behind slatted doors. The textural theme is consistent throughout, with lined feature walls crisply counteracting curves at every beautiful turn of the sumptuous living area and impressive master bedroom.
A curved sofa embraces the lounge perimeter with a sweep of soft fawn brown. A matching modern lounge chair and ottoman dot circular accompaniments.
In front of the curved sofa, a round coffee table creates a core for the loose furniture layout. A circular chandelier takes the curved shape theme to the ceiling.
Modern wall sconces are paired vertically behind the sofa to fashion a decorative column of gentle atmospheric light. A contemporary lamp sits low by the armchair to distribute an even glow.
The large modern chandelier makes the most of the impressive ceiling height in the living room. Surface mounted spotlights ensure practical, wide-spread illumination.
A natural, woven area rug softens the wood laminate floor.
The TV wall includes a bespoke wall mounted bookcase that reveals only glimpses of the home library from behind dark wood slatted doors.
A luxe marble hearth runs the length of the room, with a small modern fireplace flickering neatly at just one end of its sleek stone surface.
A wall mounted OLED TV takes pride of place dead centre between the floating bookcases.
The dining room is a chic, sophisticated arrangement with a delicate palette of fawn and grey. Light brown upholstered dining chairs encircle a cool stone dining table with moments of visual warmth.
A round dining room chandelier reaches wide across the width of the large dining table.
The rounded silhouette of the dining room chandelier and the curved back dining chairs complement a row of classic arched windows. Venetian window blinds fall in front of the arched glass, where they cause an interesting criss-cross effect against a surrounding wall of ribbed panelling.
An attractive botanical centrepiece adds a touch of wild to the refined dining set. Feathery plumes of Pampas grass make a tonal link with the brown upholstered dining chairs.
Unique flatware issues the tabletop with a fresh white setting.
The kitchen is a captivating space set beneath a high sloping ceiling with large velux windows, which rain copious amounts of natural light.
The light from the velux windows is perfectly positioned to play upon two bright copper kitchen extractors, causing spectacular lustre.
Tilework is fashioned into an arc beneath the beautiful solid stone kitchen island to honour the home’s architectural arches.
Dining chairs are set along the edge of the kitchen island to form a breakfast bar.
An inset induction hob brings the chef to the diners.
Ribbed gypsum panels texturise a feature wall opposite the island, around the kitchen’s bay window.
A small sitting area is arranged in the bay window as a place to take in the view or to enjoy reading under the unique floor lamp.
A small side table offers a spot to set down tea or coffee.
Behind the kitchen island, the rest of the kitchen cabinets are revealed from behind a wall of slatted doors, which perfectly match the bookcases in the lounge.
A copper kitchen tap melds warmly with the brown cabinets and coordinating countertop.
Moving on into the private master, the colour palette is cooled to an all grey scheme. A grey and white houndstooth bedroom rug is spread out beneath the grey bedstead, and a grey bedroom chair occupies the corner.
Elegant arched windows gracefully leap alongside the bed. Modern round bedside tables complement their perfect curves.
The deep headboard multitasks as a bookcase and a comfortable bedroom workspace that stays peacefully hidden from view. A curved back chair dips just below the surface of the incognito desk design, staying neatly out of plain sight.
The bed is angled toward a large balcony and a wonderful wide open view.
A wall of fluted glass separates the sleep space from the bedroom entryway, and forms a cosy screen around a comfortable seating area.
Sculptural pendant lights descend on the seating nook, where a planter of Pampas grass is softly uplit to highlight its texture and colour.
A change in flooring takes place beneath the two club chairs, to mark change in function.
A slimline chrome floor lamp provides reading light by the bed.
Light switches and handy charging points are set right into the deep multifunctional headboard design.
Textural botanical displays soften the corners of the room, whilst gypsum wall panels maintain modern clean lines.
Ribbed, slatted and fluted materials make linear counteraction with the arched windows and doors in the architecture of the home.
An arched doorway with a dramatic deep reveal sets an impressive first impression at the home entryway. An arched mirror replicates the aesthetic.
In the luxurious bathroom, linearity reigns supreme with ribbed unit facias and a sharply square vanity mirror.
