and its like. at the point they're at, the way that dark is always ready to separate or fling himself away from daisuke in a heartbeat with the complete, utter unassailable faith and expectation that daisuke will always come back for him (and he WILL) drives me insane. dark has nobody else to rely on, nobody else to speak with, nobody else who truly, deeply knows him the way daisuke does: he already only 'half exists,' and being abandoned by daisuke (who did wish that dark didn't exist initially, who had nothing on his mind but being free of his curse,) could be as easy as how krad described the way dark could abandon daisuke; forget him, keep the body for yourself, only dark doesn't do that Despite Legitimately Wanting his own body That badly. there's literally nothing that dark can do for himself in so many circumstances where he gets either trapped or captured, beyond let daisuke go --- but then wait, with nothing more than hope and total faith in his 'other self' and their determination and skills. then there's the funky magic stuff: even when they're separated, they're not really alone. even when they're separated, they're not truly apart. at most it's matter of voice and consciousness, and all dark has to do is wait for daisuke to find and fetch him again. that's part of why he's always telling daisuke that he's too slow or that he's been tired of waiting around; it's a confession of reliance, it's an expectation, it's dark's complete and utter trust, it's 'i'm you,' it's 'you've woken up to my existence inside of you.' dark himself would never and doesn't ever hesitate to reach out 'for the things he wants,' but the words 'i'll help you,' 'i'll come get you,' 'i won't leave you behind,' 'i'm here for you,' all without fail is what that kind of thing entails, though dark so rarely expressly says it - instead it's the honest, simple daisuke who doesn't obscure these sentiments in any way, but they really do operate in the same way for those they care about beneath it all.

     no matter how many times you visited it, the demon lord’s castle will always be an intimidatingly grandiose sight to see. with its countless towers, its towering walls, all shrouded in darkness, you couldn’t help the ominous feeling that spread through your veins.
that ominous feeling always dissipated as soon as you stepped inside. with how often you’ve been here, it began to feel almost like.. home. much like how the house of lamentation feels. you wandered about, passing the magnificent staircases and the shining pillars, walking down hallway after hallway until reaching the one room you were looking for in particular.
every single surface in the kitchen always shone with pride. strangely, the kitchen had become one of the rooms you were most comfortable in here at the castle. it carried many fond memories that you always smiled at the thought of.
“good afternoon, barbatos!” the butler turned towards the sound of your voice, smiling in greeting.
“good afternoon, MC. i’m glad you could join me today. come, i’ve just finished laying out the ingredients we are to use.” barbatos gestured towards the numerous bags and containers in front of him, then pushed a recipe book towards your direction. “this is what we are to be making. please read over it.”
you skimmed over the page before looking back up at him dubiously. “we? as in you and me? i’m not so sure about that, barbs. i’ve never really baked before, i’ve only watched.”
“precisely, you’ve watched,” he said. “you’ve watched me countless of times baking assortments of desserts. surely you’ve retained some information, yes?”
he had a point. everything that was in the book were things that you already knew just from observing barbatos in his element.
“i mean, yeah, but... what if i burn down the castle?”
barbatos chuckled at your pessimism. “i highly doubt that. have confidence in yourself, MC.” he entrusted the whisk he was currently holding over to you. “would you mix the chocolate and the butter together while i beat the egg whites? thank you.”
hesitantly, you took the whisk from barbatos’s gloved hand. he offered an encouraging smile before turning back towards the pile of goey clearness that you assumed were the egg whites.
“may i ask why we’re making this dessert in particular?” you asked, the whisk gliding through the dark mixture. “if i remember correctly, these cakes are massive. why would you want to bake one if you didn’t really need to?”
“the young lord has invited quite a number of people over today, and he requested that i create something special for them,” barbatos replied.
you turned this information over in your mind, adding the cocoa powder into the mixture. “and another thing, why not ask luke to help you instead? even if luke refused, i’m pretty sure you could do this without anyone’s help.”
barbatos was quiet for a moment, his cheeks tinged a subtle shade of pink. “i desired your company. baking with you is always an enjoyable experience.”
“thanks, barbs,” a smile blossomed across your face. “i really enjoy baking with you, too.”
a comfortable silence overtook the room, the sounds of whisks scraping against bowls filling the empty space. your bowl had been thoroughly whisked within a couple of minutes. barbatos, on the other hand, was still occupied with getting the egg whites to form soft peaks. not wanting to break his concentration, you simply decided to examine your surroundings, your eyes naturally drifting towards the demon in front of you.
it was obvious that barbatos took his title as pastry chef very seriously. every single pastry that he baked was the result of meticulous work, and this pastry would be no different. he would carefully add a small amount of sugar, whisk the eggs, then add more. his brows were furrowed ever so slightly, as if he were counting every single grain of sugar that entered the bowl. you found it endearing.
“may i ask why you’re staring at me?” barbatos’s question popped your little bubble, grounding you back into reality. his cheeks were once again that warm shade of pink.
“ah, sorry,” you awkwardly looked away, the mental image of barbatos’s baking face making you inadvertently smile. “it’s just.. you put a lot of time and effort into everything you bake. i admire you for it.”
 the normally calm and composed butler seemed caught off-guard by your response. it’s true, he’s heard this from many other appreciators of his pastries, but hearing it come from you was entirely different. “you have no idea how happy that makes me. thank you, MC.” with one last test, barbatos lifted his bowl and brought it next to yours. “excellent job. i couldn’t have done it better myself. would you please whisk the egg yolks and the hell poison honey while i mix these two?”
you did as told, bringing over your bowl back over to barbatos, who took it with a ‘thank you’ and poured it into the main bowl. he methodically folded it over and over, taking great care not to move too fast.
“barbs? i have another question.” he hummed in response. “why don’t you just mixed the whole thing? it would be a lot faster.”
“are you getting bored of me already, MC?” he mused.
“n-no! it’s just—”
“i’m only teasing,” a playful smile overtook his features. “but to answer your question, i’m taking my time to prevent the mixture from deflating. it wouldn’t be a black cloud cake if it didn’t have a cloudy texture, now would it?” barbatos poured a little bit more of the egg whites into the main bowl, repeating the methodical folding process. you hoisted yourself onto the counter, idly kicking your legs.
“talk to me, barbs. it’s too quiet in here,” you complained, folding your knees into your chest. “c’mon, quiz me!”
“if you insist,” barbatos decided to give you an easy one. “what temperature should we preheat the oven for a black cloud cake?”
your mind blanked. “oh, crap... uh.. 350 degrees?”
“fahrenheit or celsius?” barbatos’s teasing smile showed itself again.
“fahrenheit.” you replied, biting back the urge to add an ‘obviously’ at the end of your sentence.
“excellent. if you wouldn’t mind, could you please preheat the oven now? i’m just about done with this bowl.” barbatos folded it a few more times as you turned the knob on the oven, making sure there were no unmixed pieces hiding in the abyss-like mixture. you lifted yourself back up onto the counter, the two of you waiting patiently for the little ding! that the oven would make.
you hummed a tuneless song while barbatos folded the mixture a couple more times just to be safe, the ding! of the oven echoing through the shiny room. without hesitation, barbatos opened the oven door, slid the cake inside, and closed it back up again. the first time he had done this in front of you, your jaw dropped from the shock. barbatos rarely wore oven mitts, but then again, he didn’t really need them.
“is something the matter?” the butler always seemed to notice every little change in expression that gave away your thoughts.
“no, no, it’s nothing,” you shrugged off the unease. “could you just wear mitts every once in a while? i’m scared you’re gonna burn yourself one of these days.”
barbatos laughed at this, leaning against the oven. “it would take quite the oven to burn me.”
“what if i gave you oven mitts?” you suggested. “would you wear them?”
the hypothetical made barbatos strangely happy. “i would gladly wear anything you gift me.”
barbatos could certainly be a teasing nag at times, but he could be a sweetheart when he really wanted to be. though you haven’t put it together yet, barbatos only shared these moments with you. the more you two spent time together, the more barbatos found himself feeling more drawn towards you. he had no idea when or how a human became so important to him.
the sound of your sigh broke off barbatos’s thoughts. “what should we do with all of the excess ingredients? we still have a whole bunch of that liquid chocolate, we didn’t even use the flour, and there’s still some sugar and eggs. do you think we should bake something els— oh!” the feeling of something slimy slid down your hair and onto your back, causing a shiver to wrack through your body.
“i have a vague idea of what i would like to do with the excess,” barbatos replied, smiling cheekily. a broken eggshell was in his hand.
“barbatos! what the hell was that for?” despite wanting to sound upset, you couldn’t hold back the bubbly laughter that came out with it. you quickly took another egg from its container, aiming for his head. the demon was far too fast for you, instantly catching your wrist before your egg could come into contact with him. “cheater.”
barbatos only gave you that same mischievous smile, his arm easily overpowering yours, using your own hand to crack the egg onto your head instead of his. you used your other hand to reach in back of you, grabbing a fistful of flour and ruffling it into his hair, barbatos releasing your wrist in surprise.
“ha! karma!” you grinned. barbatos’s smile only grew wider, adding a more sinister tone to it. aw, crap.. you had unintentionally started a food fight. barbatos would more than likely finish what you had begun.
 you squirmed past the butler, careful to maintain your distance as the two of you began throwing all sorts of things at each other. clumps of butter, streaks of melted chocolate, handfuls of sugar and flour, pretty much whatever you two could get your hands on. you ran all around the kitchen, using the island as a sort of barrier between you and barbatos, who looked nothing like he usually did. his neat hair was disheveled and white from the powder, his apron was stained with chocolate and butter, and he was absolutely enjoying himself. this was, by far, the most fun he’s ever had with baking, and to be sharing this experience with you only added to it.
in one swift motion, barbatos slid across the island and grabbed hold of your wrists in one hand, the other hand menacingly holding a handful of dripping chocolate.
“wait! wait!” you cried out. “truce! please! i give up!”
barbatos smiled triumphantly. “what was that? i’m not quite sure i heard you.” his hand drew closer and closer to your hair.
“truce! i give up!” you yelled, hanging your head in defeat. “i’m no match for you, barbs..”
barbatos withdrew his hand, although he did not let go of your wrists. his eyes scanned your face, your clothes, before glancing around the room. “oh, dear. it appears that we’ve made quite a mess,” he looked down at his own clothes, smiling almost chastisingly. “what am i going to do with you? it’s hard to be upset when you look so adorably funny.”
you two couldn’t help but erupt in a fit of giggles, barbatos’s hand traveling from your wrists to your shoulders. “look at you, you’ve even got chocolate in your hair.”
“and whose fault would that be?” you retorted, barbatos reaching up to gently pull at the strands of hair covered in chocolate, tucking the strands away neatly.
“i’d have no idea whose fault that would be” he replied innocently, his fingers combing through your hair before settling on either side of your cheek. your giggling fell silent, the intensity of barbatos’s gaze sending a painless jolt through your body. barbatos couldn’t bring himself to look away from your face, drinking in every single feature. drips of egg yolk on your forehead, a smudge of chocolate on your cheek...
“you seem to be quite the messy eater, MC,” he teased, his thumb softly caressing your cheek. your eyes narrowed at that, earning another laugh from the demon. “you have a chocolate stain on your cheek. allow me to clean it for you. stay still, please.” you locked your joints into place, afraid that if you moved even a fraction of an inch you might scare away barbatos or something. slowly, carefully, barbatos leaned in, pressing his lips to the smeared chocolate. the feeling of his tongue gliding against your skin made you shudder.
he pulled back to look into your face, blinking once, twice, then smiling apologetically. “please pardon me. i don’t know what has gotten into me as of late. i hope i didn’t make you uncomfortable.”
“no, no,” you replied hastily, your hand moving to lay atop his. “it’s fine... thank you.” another comfortable silence blanketed over the room, except this time, it felt more.. intense. as if the entire room was filled with electricity. your cheeks stung without pain where barbatos held them.
“i’m not the only one with stuff on their face,” you grinned, cupping barbatos’s cheek and turning his head slightly. “you have chocolate right... there.” your thumb brushed against the corner of his lips, the demon’s eyes fluttering shut at the sensation. “please, allow me to clean it for you.”
barbatos fully turned his face towards you, a tender smile curving his lips. his thumb brushed against your cheek once more as the two of you slowly began leaning into each other, the warmth of barbatos’s chest seeping into your own.
gradually, barbatos’s face drew closer and closer to yours, your lips only centimeters apart.
his sweet breath fanned across your face..
ding!
the sound of the oven made you both jump, your cheeks becoming overwhelmingly warm underneath barbatos’s touch. barbatos didn’t take his eyes off of you.
“it appears that the cake is done baking,” he said simply.
“...yeah..” was all you could say. “you’d better.. go get it before it burns.”
“that would be the wise thing to do.” he still didn’t move an inch, his eyes piercing into yours.
barbatos's loving touch made your brain feel fuzzy. your grip on his sleeves grew tighter. “i’m sure diavolo’s guests wouldn’t mind a little crispiness to their cake, right?”
“i believe it is called black cloud cake for a reason.” he agreed
barbatos pressed his lips onto yours without a second's delay. he found that you tasted sweeter than any pastry he's ever created.

Aurum in Fairy Robes eating noodle; Yes, this illustration was supposed to be switched with the 3rd chapter.
Tale 43: The Small Apothecary (chapter 5 - The Moon 5/5 ) part 8. Stories of Dreams
The next day, Qilin sleep; unable to adjust to the time-zone change. He reluctantly got up, to start his work. Firstly, he asked various people what elixirs they might need. Qilin knew the local doctor required remedies to naga venom, flu symptoms, and bone repair; And others wanted light viles and water clensing; Things the traditional village lacked. So, next it was time to gather. Even if no recipe called for it, Qilin looked for specialties. Some mid-day golden dew, from the ruffled Dok Cahmpa was right there; beaming light the light of dawn. Good for pain, and only found in Doi Veng. These were the yellow flowers he dreamed of. But for the final request, he was comissioned sugar plum jam for sleep.
Qilin walked to the ever blossoming orchard; Various cherry, plum, and orange fruit fey, were planted neatly together; A fluffy arching crown of plush purple and pink. They sweetly whispered above a pool of lucky carp. But the enchanted fish no gave scales of fortune; they rejected every coin. Even the frosted plums forbid Qilin from having a single pome. With a despondent sigh, and empty basket, Qilin realized he needed a witch. For his recipes, the fey had to consent to being picked. Their gifts have different properties if taken without asking. Qilin preferred asking. He considered it violent, to steal pieces of fey.
Having lost, Qilin’s left the orchard in search of Aurum. It was his lucky day; He saw golden silks glow from the corner of his eye. Aurum was riding his familiar off the butte top. Qilin gasped, and ran after him. He had completely forgotten Aurum was showing him the water temple today.
The walk was silent between Qilin and Aurum. Qilin’s thoughts were busied by finally being able to perform traditions from his people. Also, the consuming frustration at current barriers to his craft. Meanwhile, Aurum shuddered at the thought of his neglectful mother being there; He was equally irational in the moment. Ironically, Aurum’s mother came to Doi Veng for the same reason as Qilin. However, money had corrupted her, and she succumb to depression while destroying Doi Veng. She was the very reason they fey acted so cold. For this reason, she now tended the temple and retired from magic.
At the temple, the walls crumbled as nature grew through them. But inside, there was a hall with carved jade walls. There was a set of bells, large gong, and trough of chalk, before a powdery wood floor. Light shone through the gaps of the pillars, and holes above the red beams. Pixies were sleeping about the ledges, that wafted of rose and sandalwood. Their honey would be perfect for making hex incense. Qilin was overwhelmed as he looked above, and walked closer to the chalk.
“How does this work?” Qilin inquired. He bumped into Aurm who was kneeling. Qilin decided to join him. The sound of a steam silently echoed, and Qilin felt himself merge with the moment. His previous thoughts now smothered. His face bright. Then, Aurum’s deep breaths ceased. He had never met someone of the Eastlands, who didn’t know how to give gratitude.
“Well?” Qilin smiled.
“Um, you grab the chalk in your palms, then slam your hands while bowing, and gently interlace your fingers behind your neck. Then reflect on what satisfies your being in that moment,” Aurum said, his head tilted. “Then meditate on the phrase ‘I am greatful for...” He demonstrated. The thud of the bow, and puff of chalk, nearly made Qilin second guess the ritual. He performed it perfectly, powdering white into his black hair. Soon, a singing bowl rang through the room. They sat up as one, in a state of serenity.
“What are you grateful for, Lin?” Aurum grinned. His own father would always ask the same. You can tell a lot about a person from what they appriciate.
“Having the opportunity to live here with my family. You?” Qilin smirked. Aurum stalled, and looked into the brushed bell brass before him.
“To see the colour yellow.” He said calmly. He gently got up, and left to the courtyard. Qilin tip-toes in suit. They sat in the shade of the clensing gingko, growing into the a wall. Crossed legs, well poised, silent, and resting.
The novelty of meditation, wore off quickly for Qilin. His mind wondered back to the rejection of the plums. He fidgeted with the urge to ask Aurum for aid, while unsure if disturbing meditation was allowed. He had meditated little in his life, aside from breathing exercises in school programs. Despite reading the teachings within the poetry of water. Qilin opened his eyes, and turned to Aurum. Tears were streaming down Aurum’s face, as his steady breath trembled. It came from the chest, no matter how hard he tried to use his stomach.
“Why are you crying?” Qilin whispered.
“It does not matter why I am sad. I get sad sometimes, then it goes away. I concentrate only on emptiness.” Aurum sighed, melting into his posture.
“Then how do you process emptiness? How do you let go?”
“Maybe I cry, because I am sad that I have let go. Purhaps right now, it is time to greave.” Aurum said, opening his eyes. His mother was adjacent, and smiling slightly. She wore orchid, with shimmering lotus trim.
“I’m bad at letting go.” Qilin shrugged. “Like, I can’t let go of those stupid sugar plums. This place was supposed to be....perfect.” He petered out. Aurum nodded, having already assumed as much. Aurum’s mother readjusted.
“I’m going now. Those are great thoughts to practice sitting with, Lin. Thoughts that when overcome, make you one with nothingness. Letting go, requires wisdom of what we cannot control. The world will not end because the fey are hesitant, and we feel strongly.” Aurum said, walking away. He seldom took his own medicine, despite his effort. To Qilin, those words made him go red from frustration.
Aurum didn’t fully embrace a single thing he touted most days. He had only been practising for a few years. It can take a lifetime to act on such beliefs. Aurum may need two lifetimes; He had a lot of issues: Feeling incompetent for being coddled, traumatized for being imprisoned, and hard feelings towards his parents for their mistakes. He knew being in the moment would prevent looking back, and alternatively the now is not always pleasant. Like Qilin, Aurum also struggled to sustain his meditation. Aurum radiated a dark presence as he rode back to the village. Like he would block out the sun for anything that dared to near him. That stupid boy was summoning Aurum’s pain with all those questions. Testing his ability to remain present. The flaw of the ways of water, is that human hearts are responsive, thus creating desire and hate. People seek opposites, and fulfillment. They are not like fey. The flow of all things, is inconsistent with humanity’s stubbornness.
Aurum spent three hours coaxing the trees to give up a few plums to help Qilin.
“I don’t believe he is a greedy wizard. He is not from my family. I think he is like our village’s people. He wants simplicity, and your charity, to aid us all. What If I ask you for plums? As your mage who adores you, am I worthy? Am I able to receive your gifts to help the forest?”
“We will trust you for now, mage. But if this boy misuses our gifts, we will gladly have the more mobile fey scare him off.” The orchard threatened. It was so unlike them. Fey catastrophizing? Often, the childlike neutral nature of fey, made them the best teachers of embracing each moment’s wonder and joy. But like people, they know fear and desire. Nothing is immune. Aurum was only able to procure half the ingredients Qilin needed.
“Can you give him more? I want to sleep.” A familiar voice called into the trees. Kugu was feeding rice cakes to the lucky carp, while listlessly humming a lullaby to endear them. She wore her same printed pastel clothes. The trees dropped more flowers and fruit. Aurum’s gaze lingered on Kugu’s forlorn face. He snapped out of it when she thanked them.
Aurum walked over to crouch next to Kugu; The garden was empty in the afternoon. All they heard was birds and fey whipers.
“Thanks.” Aurum smiled.
“I just want a regular sleep cycle.”
“No, I mean for going outside so we can smile with you. You even helped Qilin,” Aurum said, looking at his reflection in the pool. “Honestly I’m sick of only seeing you stare at the wall, each time I sneak in to rid the goblins from your yard.”
“I don’t need pity.” Kugu scoffed.
“Maybe you need tea? I’ve heard good things about tea. I’d love to make some for you some time.” Aurum tensed. Kugu laughed a little. The carp gave them scales.
“Maybe after you give that apothecary his ingredients, and my father overcomes his worry. He should go to the temple too,” Kugu growled. “I like to think it’s working for me. I hope magic can cure me. I should’ve never studied in the city.”
“Should is a toxic word. Like always and never. Best advice my nanny ever gave me.” Aurum said, examining the orange scales. He got up to leave, and waved goodbye. Kugu tried to smile back. Even lost in his glow, she couldn’t do it quite yet.
Qilin nearly feinted at the basket of goods; He could start brewing this very night. There was an encouraging note from his mother. Qilin read it while setting up. The plum jam needed to be brewed under a full moon, all night; Qilin would need to multitask to stay awake. As the sun set, he got to work cutting and grinding. Sugar plum, frosted orange peel, and starlit sugar cane. He had brewing flasks, vials of every material, and all the tools and stoves he needed; Including a pot to make smoked fish rice, as he missed dinner.
After a night’s work, the jam had turned white. To test, he put a spoonful on a plate; It froze the entire table. The plums hadn’t fully consented to sharing their gifts. The elixir could be used in small does to cool food or make ice, so it wasn’t a full loss. But Qilin was deeply disappointed. Not only did he fail brewing for the first time in a year, but the fey didn’t like him. As dawn came, Qilin staggered back to the temple, and feel asleep while meditating until midday; When he could make the golden dew. He was given a singing bowl for the very task. If had a fierly lusture from the dragon forged bell brass. However, Qilin’s confidence was shattered. He lost his posture. Having awoken, his breathing was uneven, but still deep. Like a gasping fish.
“Why are you crying?” Kugu asked. Silence.
“Well, I cry for failing to get a degree, and believing for a moment such things mattered when places like this exist.” She continued. Qilin looked up to see her undone hair and calm face. She wore a silver satin sabok skirt, that glimmered like the moon. She looked nice today. Their eyes met. Qilin’s tears soaked his dirty emerald wrapped pants and sash; He wore only the pants of his dirty wizarding robes.
“You don’t have to share.” Kugu shrugged.
“I cry, because today my mind reminds me I can fail.” Qilin admitted.
“The plums hate everyone. You’re not special,” Kugu snorted. “Well, they like me I guess; Enough to give the other half of your ingredients when I requested your potion.”
“Thanks. Now tell me your secrets. The fey here are resistant to friendship.” Qilin grined.
“I would have ascended to the next spiritual plane, if I knew the ways of fey.” Kugu rolled her eyes.
“Well, me and Aurum know the ways of fey, and I assure you we’re both currently incompatent.”
“He offered to let me watch him burn himself on a stove; To make tea to warm me. Something about it having special properties.”
“Probably something my mom said.”
“I think I said yes, even though I have trouble bonding with people. But with that workaholic, whose smile and misguided mind; He makes me weak. It feels like he’s always there for me. But I can’t get myself to-”
“bonding and getting attention? Just crawl into his window uninvited! I got a week’s detention for that, and I wasn’t even the one naked. The guy didn’t return my textbook, and I had a test the next day. You’ll never forget a moment like that. That’s the secret to bonding with someone.” Quilin suggested. Kugu finally managed a smile.
Hot Water
The following week, Qilin decided to earn the trust of fey the old-fashioned way: bribery and proximity. He failed fey studies, but was a believer in power of confidence. Qilin was now desperate to gather ingredients; Preferably without Aurum or Kugu. He watered and tended the wondrous flora daily. Trying to tell himself it’s ok if they don’t give him anything. It’s just a low rank potions, he’d repeat like a new mantra. When he dare feel the frustration boil, he decided to seek other useful ingrediant.
Thus, Qilin stood at the graceful falls on the red lacquer bridge, being misted gently by the cleansing water. He wanted one of Goober’s golden scales, to make glistening dye; dragon-yellow was good at thermoregulating houses. Useful in tropical climates, like here in the Eastlands. Summer, was indeed upon the baking butte; Making Qilin’s cloths stick to his every inch. Goober requested a watch. Qilin didn’t have one. Like Aurum, Qilin shook an open palm over the rail, and into the pool below. The bottom was littered with clocks. After wading to the shore, Qilin sat there causing at the universe between breaths.
Meanwhile, Aurum had melted into his sleeping mat. Finally, he was able to let his trains of thought come and go freely. One with existence. He felt the come and go of joy, in this accomplishment. Calming gratitude for the sun and Kugu’s courage, and Qilin’s spirit. His breath deep and relaxed. He was lost to the world, for what might have been ninety-minutes. Even the crash on his balcony, and tumble through his open shutters, didn’t stir Aurum. Must be the birds. He thought in passing. Kugu was angered Qilin’s advice didn’t work.
Kugu had crawled out of bed for nothing. Like those around her, Kugu’s ability to be one with acceptance, was being tested. She sat an inch from Aurum’s face for fifteen-minutes before stillness left her. She ran back out the window; Not before seeing the entire kitchen littered with burnt pots, and random perfectly clean tea cups. Kugu wondered if he washed things with soap, cleansing water, or just alchemized dishes as he needed them. Once again, a train of thought brought someone out of the moment, and over a rail. Kugu fell into a mundane gingko, and then landed her tailbone on the walkway. She covered her face in embarrassment, and pain, as she passed people who weren’t watching.
A week later, Qilin gave the cooling jam to the local cook. His brother was baking in the back, and mocked Qilin’s chalk powdered hair. The temple had quickly become Qilin’s favourite spot between brewing.
“Are you sure you don’t need it? It will keep food from spoiling in the heat,” Qilin insisted. “One drop in the centre of a room each day, should keep any place a cool.”
“Brilliant! But... Why can’t a mage do this? Wouldn’t a winter spell, or whatnot, be permanent? How can I be sure a wizard used ethically sourced ingredients? I don’t have money to pay you either.” The cook questioned.
“Words of thanks, or food, will be payment enough,”Qilin smiled. “Potions are made to be used. I would never waste goods made from the gifts given by our local fey. Besides, Aurum can be busy, now that Whitestead is not in Doi Veng. Sir, I assure my elixirs are fit for our current needs.”
“I supose.” The man smiled. Qilin smiled back, as he handed over the potion. The man gave him his day’s worth of calories in dumpling soup, and peanut tofu. Qilin decided to go home to sleep it off, since he was unable to brew anything that day. He had given in to his failure, and tended the fey only out of admiration. Which led to several baskets of ingredients, by Qilin’s side. He was admittedly content. Maybe he had gotten his Happily Ever After enchantment. Things seemed to bother Qilin less with time. Maybe Doi Veng was rubbing off on him, as he wished. Each moment became succulent. Even his mother and siblings seemed to be calm and rested.
After waking up from meditation, Aurum decided to eat some leftover stuffed buns, and ride his familiar to the greater Doi Veng area, outside the gate. He had nearly forgotten there was a large town nearby. Everyone in Doi Veng forgot about it eventually. Which is good, because the town felt sad. Aurum attended magic school here, and got a witchery masters. When Aurum arrived, and gave a beaming aura as he walked. It contrasted with from the roughed up neighbourhood. He decided to buy incense for the temple, and as gifts. Aurum received some nasty looks. The people even walked around him, or switched sidewalks; People feared mages. Aurum could feel their impulsive reactions, through the traditional smiling greetings. He briefly remembered those things used to bother him, then moved on. Aurum decided to go back with taro rolls, offer the incense, and return home.
In his abode, Aurum examined the tea he bought. He had no clue if Kugu liked tea.
How does one know if something is made with love, or rant serenity? He held up the box, and looked at it vacantly. Aurum felt the unsteady breath panic. But he had a resolve of independence. A desire to become a calm grown individual. His nanny was gone, and taught him many things.
How hard could it be to make tea? I know magic after all! Surely making tea is easier then cooking or bartering with dragons. Aurum thought, tensely exhaling.
Instead of sitting with that, he ate the rest of the taro rolls like hotdogs, while watching Qilin appease the foliage. They were now trying to give him too many gifts, of which he would refuse.
“You wanted their gifts so bad… Why are you turning them away?” Aurum asked.
“Because I don’t want thing I won’t use. Their to kind to reap...” Qilin shrugged. There was a pause as he commanded winter water, from his wand; Sprinkling the garden with glittering dew. Water spells always have an explainable lustre to them. Like living glass.
“Actually, I’m also scared I’ll mess up, Qilin confessed.
“It’s pretty hard to truely mess up.”
“ But I botched the jam, and now I have to wait another lunar cycle to have a full moon. The cooling potion was the best I’ve ever made, if that were what I was making.” Qilin grumbled.
“That’s a lot of looking forward and back. I hate when I do that too.” Aurum said. “For example, I don’t know how to make tea, and I offered it to Kugu. To help her. Because I like her. The thought of failure is intrusive... Wait! You brew stuff, Lin; Any hints?”
“Great. We’re on the same page. The human attachment to time and social pressure. Well, since one of us has to succeed: First you grab a pot. Then you fill the pot two-thirds with water. Then you heat the water until it bubbles, and-” Qilin started. “Are you taking notes?”
“Yes. Keep going.” Aurum smiled innocently. He had summoned his mage journal and ink. Qilin looked into middle distance as if a wind of lukewarm essence flooded into him. Or perhaps a sneeze; It can be hard to tell sometimes. Qilin’s vision greyed, and hearing blurred, as he provided instructions. What sort of person doesn’t know how to make tea? Is that a judgment... Wait, should this man even be near fire?
“Thanks! I knew an Apothecary could help! Are you ok, Lin?” Aurum said, bending a little to look into Qilin’s eyes.
“Spaced out I think.”
“Yeah, that’ll happen when you become aware of your stupidity. Happens often.”
“Stupid? Actually, I think I was thinking too hard; You don’t possess the skill of tea brewing. Do you struggle to wash your clothes? I keep meeting people who can’t wash clothes...” Qilin huffed. Aurum gave nervous laugh.
“Yeah. Um, anyway, I meant you looked consumed by regret. Are you embarrassed that you forgot the full moon is actually tomorrow night? We do encourage forgetting time here. Don’t feel too ashamed.”
“WAIT. WHAT.” Qilin yelled.
By Evening, Kugu sat quietly on the mat by Aurum’s tea table. Jewel coloured walls, and dusty wood floors. His possessions were few, and the minimum quality needed to function. Every object traditional second-hand antique. The glaze on the ceramics had crackles, and the wall scrolls faded. Wood furniture losing lacquer, and cushions nearly flat. It gave the room personality. Kugu was intentionally not watching Aurum, who was behind her in the kitchen. He had burnt himself twice. But at last, he sat across from her.
“I’m sorry, it’s um, steeping.” He said. “How was your day?”
“Fell from a tree, again. Now I am here. Again.”
“Oh no, are you ok?”
“I am here.”
“I am not here. My mind is presently in that kitchen, watching the tea brew, worried you’ll hate it.”
“We offer tea because it’s neutral. I neither love nor hate tea. I actually have very few opinions. Which is why I have no friends, and ended up here.”
“Then you’re in the right place! I lack the full concept of most things, but I try my best to be ambivalent and absorb each second of being. Like being uncomfortble from tea.”
“Do I talk like that now, too? Without any emphatic words?”
“No. I normally don’t. I just hope that if speak like that, it will sink in. It’s super hard. I feel it might be working. Sometimes.”
“huh, never thought of it like that. Also, tea only takes three minutes to steep. You should check on it.” Kugu laughed. Aurum jumped up and dashed to the kitchen. There was more swearing, shattering, a little sobbing, some silence, and then Aurum returned with a white pot and two simple cups. He set the table perfectly. Kugu went to pour before Aurum could offer. She filled his cup, then hers. She put down the smooth warm pot, and went for her beverage. Then she noticed the tea was clear. She drank it to be sure. After a swallow, Kugu made eye contact with Aurum. He had also dranken it, and tensed with nerves.
“This is hot water.” Kugu said. She tried not to snicker. She took another sip, maintaining eye contact.
“Um. Nah. It’s tea! Brewed with love.” Aurum said calmly. His face was calm, and holding back nervous laughter. He finished the cup. The soft tap of his cup on the table sounded, before he gently poured himself more.
“It is warm, and maybe burnt. A little calming. Things we make for others, are of lesser quality; But still valued.” Aurum continued. Kugu put her hand over Aurum’s cup, before he could pick it up. She had started giggling. It’s contagious nature causing Aurum to join her.
“Alright, fine. I dropped the previous pot and improvised.” He admitted. Kugu took her cup and also refilled it. It was like a child’s tea-party. They drank simultaneously.
“Thank you for the tea.” Kugu bowed. Aurum put his cup down.
“It’s hot water.” He looked down biting his lip. Holding back both laughter and embarrasment.
“Yup. Just boiling water. That’s uh… Yup.” Kugu requited. “You tried though.”
“Hm.” Aurum wilted. “But did it work? The new lady said tea made with love brings inner peace.”He continued. Kugu reluctantly nodded. She thought herself above being swooned by such tomfoolery.
The following evening, Qilin held his basket of requested plums. His lab was fully prepared. Thus, it was time to brew. He didn’t need the sleeping elixirs himself anymore, but knew it was useful enough to make regardless. He remembered Kugu showing interest. While Qilin worked by the stove and couldon, and the sun set, and sweat dripped. His mother silently entered while her son was lost in his craft. Smiling, she sat by the table.
“Mind if I watch? Your brothers said they find people using magic unsettling, and refused to visit. I brought your sister though.” She gleamed.
“You want to stay up all night, watching me brew random things, cook rice, and make mystical jam?” Qilin checked. His mother nodded, and little sister smiled.
“I want to see why you love it. I always wondered where potions came from. You turn all these pieces of fey, into substances that help us. Like making tea, that cna make anything happen.” His mother said. Qilin lit the stove with moon fire. She flinched, but held her ground. Qilin smiled to comfort her. He enjoyed her company, but didn’t need to say it. His inner child was happy to have his mother to himself, after so long. She was his greatest blessing.
“Is Doi Veng what you dreamed? Is being a wizard what you imagined, Lin?” His mother asked. They shared rice while they watched the pot simmer. It had a crisp and sweet scent, akin to pure vanilla.
“Well, no. It was really exciting, I guess. But somehow, I thought wizardry would be cooler than cooking by another name.” Qilin sighed. “Doi Veng is as magical and whimsical as I thought, but it doesn’t feel that way. It’s simply another place now. I think I got my Happily Ever After, and everything lost its flavour. In a good way. It melted into perfectly still water.”
“I like it here. I came because you inspired me, Lin. You’re full of good ideas. Once I came here, I became content with the flavour of my life. It had been so long since I felt that. Like the rain no longer stops me from going about a day. It’s so colourful, and the things speak. I find the clothing comfortable, and have time to paint more scrolls. Now that all my babies are grown, I have time to spend with them.” Qilin’s mother explained. He gave a small chuckle and stirred the pot; Scrapping the thickened jam on the side back in.
“I have no clue what made me choose any of this, nor why I’m ok with it. I almost hate that it worked out so nicely. You gave me doubt. Maybe something inside, decided I wanted to do something random, right that minute; I kept saying yes, and I ended up here.” Qilin said, checking his watch. He looked out the window, as a soft light illumined the village. Qilin pulled his mother in, and they looked into the pot.
“This is the best part; And what separates a cauldron from a crock-pot.” He jitterred. As light beamed against the cracks of the roof, the jam went from purple to opalescent blue. Qilin jumped up in laughter, hopped in circles, and hugged his mom. Success!
Qilin’s mother and sister watched keenly, as he used a small spatula to pour the elixir into violet labelled vials, with floral caps. They shimmered like his smile. Around him, the glassware glittered brilliant colours, in every inch of the shop; Glistening jewels, that made one see more the longer they looked. A memory being made.
“This must be the best part.” His mother said.
“Actually, it is one of many good parts.”

Komet narrowed his eyes at her. "Fine. You're weird." He replied flatly and turned back to Sam. The memory was...painful to watch. To see his only friend and mentor jump back into certain death. He supposed that was how it should be. Protect the Admin no matter what. And if Rinzler trusted these two to go with him to the Portal, then there was no use killing them. At least for now.
The memory played a few times. The light of the hologram flickering against the black and red of his suit. With a sigh, Komet turned back to the console as it announced their pending arrival. "Two is fine. We'll have to fly anyway. The carrier and everyone in it was at the City, so it'll be empty."
The Solar Sailer slowed as it eased it's way into the station. The golden sails collapsing while the vehicle stopped with a soft hiss.
"Now arriving at Station Zero. Please watch your step when exiting the Sailer."
Komet was out of the cabin before the others could stop him. His steps were sure and steady now that he was out of the cramped room. The station was eerily empty, but expected. Like he'd said before, all of Clu's forces were on the front lines. The only life here were basic maintenance programs. A security program would have no problem passing through
"This way." He didn't bother checking if they followed or not. The mission was the only important part. Wasn't his fault if they couldn't keep up. The three of them climbed up a wide set of stairs at the end of the platform. It rose up to meet the main thoroughfare that was built into the side of a mountain.
The only sound around them was the wind as it blew through the empty tunnels that led to the now absent carrier. It didn't take long to reach the empty dock where the once massive ship rested. "There." Komet pointed at the portal in the distance. "Through the Void." He turned back to Sam and Eve, a hidden smile on his face. "Avoid the pillars or you'll end up in the Sea."
Sure enough they were standing over the dark and lifeless Sea of Simulation. The waves crashed against the side of the cliff that held up the platform. Komet pulled out his single jet baton and gestured out with it. "Ladies first."
"You can say I'm weird, you know." Eve commented, wandering over when she fully woke, plucking the energy vial out of Sam's hands and storing it away. "Chances are, I'll take it as a compliment." She disappeared off to the other side of the cabin, taking an inventory both of what was in the sailer and what she was carrying.
Eve was the kind of Program who kept their batons next to their disc, rather than at their hips. It gave her a crucial amount of extra movement, less chance of someone snatching one... even so, the four she carried seemed excessive. Perhaps stranger than even this was her casual disregard of the very real danger Komet could be.
Sam played the memory for Komet. From this angle it looked even worse, Not-Tron practically swallowed by the white glow behind him even before he leaped into it.
Five micros to arrival at Station Zero.
"I was thinking we fly there in a two-jet formation - Eve's jet is a two seater, and I'm a better gunner than I am a pilot anyway. Once there, we see if there's any new orders to supercede these, and if not we go through."
"Have any questions, Komet?" Sam asked quietly. "If you do, please tell me them. I can't address them or adapt to the points in them if I don't know what you're unsure about."

“EVERYONE! THERE’S A MASSIVE FIRE! RUN!”
Blaring sirens and loud clamoring were the first noises that reached her ears. She jumped up with a start, and rushed to the small barred window in her door, watching dozens of scientists running past her, many of them screaming.
None stopped to help her. Not that she expected them to, they had never cared about her before. Well, not outside of the many experiments done on her. She sighed quietly and curled back on the single sheet she had for comfort.
Maybe this would be it. Maybe should could finally leave this place, leave the whole world. It would almost certainly be better than staying alive.
A clicking noise came from across the room, followed by the familiar creak of the solid iron door. Someone had opened it. But who? Who would care enough to let her go, to not let her burn?
She thought that she would die, but maybe not. Whether of her own want to escape, or the self preservation she though gone, she found herself standing up, and then also running away.
Faster and faster she ran somehow outpacing the scientists who were bewildered at her presence, but didn’t care enough to do anything about her.
Step after step, her only goal was to escape.
“Out. Out. Get out.”
These sentiments were loud in her head, as she used her modified legs to bound past all the personnel.
There was the door. The door to the outside. She’s never been this far. And then she passed through the doorway, neither the cold air blasting her nor the darkness outside were deterring her as she continued to run away.
Large machines zoomed past her, the likes of which she had never seen. She didn’t think about it too hard as she continued to run. Across the giant stream of water, through large brown and green pillars, past poles of light that illuminated an empty concrete plane.
She kept at it for a long time, but as all living beings do, she started to slow down. Her entire body in pain, her vision blurred and feet ripped up from the coarse ground. But she couldn’t stop, she had to keep going. Had… to keep going…
Everything went black.
——————————————————
A Cadillac was driving down an empty road, unusual but not uncommon considering it was very late at night.
“Duke, do you see that?” The woman in the passenger seat said to the driver.
“I do, it appears to a… corpse? Perhaps it’s still alive,” The driver responded, with a hint of confusion in his voice.
“Stop the car near the body.”
“As you request,” Duke said as he slowed the car down, halting it right next to the body. Both of them exited the car to inspect the body.
The body in question was a thin and tall one, with many scars and scratchers, missing it’s left arm and with one black prosthetic right leg. However, the most unusual part of the body was the ears. Instead of traditional human ears, this body had two car like ears on the top of its head. The body was only wearing a thin gown, with a dull grey color.
“Poor thing, this one is. A product of human testing, how dreadful,” The woman fretted, crouching over the body.
“Would you like to bring this one back to the manor?” Duke offered.
“Yes, we must patch them up.”
“Very well, I’ll arrange that the infirmary will be able to accept them, and for a room to be prepared.”
“Oh Duke, you always know what I’m thinking.”
“A perk of being your loyal servant, ma’am.”
As they finished their conversation, Duke lifted the body into the back seat in a safe position, before quickly driving the three of them off to the manor.

The answer is parallel.
Pairing: Getou Suguru x reader
genre: angst.
Part 1, Part 3
Notes: How can you turn an intersecting line to a parallel one? by erasing it completely like it never happened :D This is part 2 of my previous fic but it can be read as a stand alone. I think I did better than the first? I might come back to the last one for some small fixes here and there.
A year had passed since that incident occurred. Suguru was too lost in his world. Drowning in his ego and dilemma. Forced to return to normality with sets of homeworks, tests and missions as if nothing had happened. It made him stressed as they all neatly lined up to grab his attention in wherever direction he went, forgetting something important in the process. He could always go back to it once everything settles. Right now, for him, the present was more crucial.
Staring back at him was his failed assignment in algebra. Angry red dragged across every crevice of the paper, dictating all the right and wrong answers to him. Crosses out weighed the circles. He couldn’t help but fume on all his mistakes. He knows he answered everything perfectly. Math is his best subject, well was. Maybe the question itself was wrong? Especially the last one. All the numbers in his calculations lead him to believe they would intersect. How could he be wrong?
“Fuck this.” He said. There were still other things for him to do than to mull over something so small. He’ll do better with the next one, he has to. He’s Getou Suguru, the model student after all.
Without realizing time had flown all too quickly like a strong tidal wave. It had crashed onto him, sweeping his being along the shores repeatedly. His best friend was leaving him behind as Satoru grows stronger. Shoko had become MIA doing her roundabout ways, ignoring everything and everyone. One of his lowerclassmen had died too, only leaving half of his remains and a friend empty. As Suguru tried to crawl away from the currents, it had left him too drench in black and blue.
The imaginary chalkboard of his psyche had crumbled. Tragedy had forced its hand and added itself in his equations. Defying the equalibrium, tipping the zero scale further to the negatives. Unable to keep track what's on his mind anymore, what's universally right and wrong. Now he just stands there in the middle of the room surrounded by two corpses, in a place he once called home.
He had killed his parents. The people who he once loved and cherished. His mother who made his favorite food, who cleaned up his childish wounds and greeted him every morning of his life. She's gone and so was his father. The person who he looked up to, who proudly announced the world his only begotten son. They were all gone and all that was left were red.
That’s okay, he thought to himself. They were wrong answers anyway just like that washed up village too.
Bzzz.
Bzzz.
The sound of his phone suddenly reminded him of the thing he forgot all summer long. With a single swipe of his fingers, his eyes were greeted by a familiar name. A familiar picture.
It was her.
How dare he forget? The person who had become his pillar, his anchor and his bound eternity. Tons of messages had piled one after another in his inbox. Letters of hellos and good mornings to how are yous and goodnights. Reading every word felt too bright, too selfish. He could only squint. He hasn’t replied for months now, let alone read a single one and yet she still continued to send them.
Y/n: I miss you. I hope you're okay. One of them read. Suguru couldn’t help the annoyance swell inside of him. How was he okay? Everything had gone to shit. A few weeks ago? Months ago, he couldn't even remember extactly but he knew he almost died. Even now just a couple of days before, two innocent kids were abused and mistreated. And yet —
Inhale
Exhale
How would she know? She was probably too focused on her own little bubble to even see what’s wrong with the world. Living so freely in a rose colored world. Probably waiting for the next episode of her favorite show or gossiping on the latest news. She wouldn’t understand the dangers he faces everyday, how his kind sacrifices their life just for them to be safe. She was clueless.
He hates this.
He hates her.
He has to.
Looking at the screen with utter nonchalance, he finally replied. It's time for their mathematical lines to finally diverge from each other. No, to erase it like it never happened. In the first place they were never meant to intersect, never meant to reach and traverse each other. She was, after all, just a monkey. He can’t make exceptions, not even one. This is for the future he dreamed of.
With one last click, he asked her to meet him.
Time seemed to flow slowly as he sat on the empty park bench waiting for her. She was late for their rendezvous. It’s fine, he doesn’t really mind if she doesn’t show up. It’s rude but it's better that way. At least she was far away from him to taint his being, he thought. Far away and safe from him.
The unconscious prayer seemed to be ignored as the sound of running footsteps brought him back from hell. His vision was greeted by a disheveled figure. Y/n’s hair was strewn all over her face and skin drenched in sweat. All she wore was the sweater he left behind, her red school track pants and house slippers. A mess she was but still looked pretty in his eyes.
Y/n was Suguru’s little rebel. She would always trust whatever stupid teenage idea pops out of his mind. Played along with his little whims. Even now, sneaking out from her strict parents' gaze to have a midnight escapade with her boyfriend. She was too good for him. Rubbing his neck, Suguru couldn’t help but bitterly smile at that thought.
"Suguru, did I make you wait?" Hands on her knees, catching all the air she can with those puffy lips he loved the most. She wasn't really sporty to begin with but she was determined either way and other ways. "Sorry, I had to wait till everyone’s asleep."
“It's fine.” he responded coldly. Mustering up every fiber of his being to put on a façade. He reminded himself she’s a monkey.
Silence embraced them both as they drank in the reflection of each other. It's been months after all. Both of them were too busy with their own lives. Suguru with the jujutsu world and y/n with her own normal life. Neither of them knew what's in each other's brewing pot but they wished they did.
Y/n could only search his eyes for answers, for words to say. She missed him so much, too much. She wanted to ask how he is. Has he been eating well? He looked a bit skinnier than the last time she saw him. Is his school overworking him too much? Is Satoru being an ass to him? Her mouth could only open and close as the questions were jammed in her throat, unable to vocalize all her convoluted feelings. unable to seek the truth. So instead of words, she closed their distance with her lips. Enveloping him in her warmth.
She really missed him. She could crumble anytime with his presence alone. With his touch alone. Never even wanting to let go, holding on tightly as she can. There she waits for his answer.
But Suguru couldn't embrace her back, couldn’t kiss her back.
Even if his hands were aching to, even if they were dying to scoop her up and just eat her there all together. He can't. He already convinced himself so. Instead he broke her to tiny pieces pushing her to her abyss. Pushing himself to his abyss. "Sorry y/n, I don't think this is gonna work out." Eyes looking beyond her existence for there was a better calling for him than her religion. There's no need for prayers anymore.
It hurt.
But it's okay. Everything has an end after all, its just this one has to be erased completely.
Y/n already anticipated this but it still hurt nonetheless. Years they spent together now being thrown aside. Was it all for nothing? Was it because she was powerless and weak? Not a part of his world? Tears flowed her cheeks, unable to hold it in anymore. “I heard from Satoru…”her hands were holding the ends of his sweater she was wearing, finding comfort from its scent as her lips trembled.
“... I love you and it's okay.” was all she could say as much as she wished there to be more.
She had known all this time. She wasn’t clueless as he thought she was. She knew what he had done and what he had become. How he felt so broken, alone and in pain. How this world was too cruel to him. To them.
She knows what he’s about to do too. His friends had informed her, warned her even but she didn't care. All she wanted was for them to continue to intersect once more, it's all that mattered to her but she couldn’t lie that a small part of her hoped it was all made up. That her Suguru isn’t capable of ever doing those atrocities but just from his demeanor alone told her otherwise.
He noticed her fear, her rejection of the truth, of reality. It wasn't only her voice that was shaking, her body too. Holding herself together as much as she can. Seeing it right in front of him made him want to puke. It wasn’t supposed to end like this. It was supposed to be quick and easy like he did to his parents yet it became too emotional.
"I am sorry." That’s all he could say as her tiny sobs increased its volume.
The agonizing sound ripped through his already resolute determination. Surprising him as his body began to betray him. The feeling of her small form against his. He wanted to be disgusted by this sudden sweet vulgarity but a part of him couldn’t. Pressing her further, deeper, swallowing all her tears and cries. this was all for him and only for him. Locking it forever inside him, this would be a fleeting memory that solely he would remember. “So sorry.” he mumbled over and over again as he dug his grave in her hair. Saying goodbye to the Suguru she knew, He was.
With every repeated apologies it had crossed off all his broken promises, marking it red and never to be fulfilled.
In their last hour of their forged numbers, forged convergence and forged eternity. They were in each other’s arms as lips danced for the last time. Whispering their I love yous over and over again till the other couldn’t speak anymore.
At that moment, Getou Suguru remembered the last question of his homework. The answers were never supposed to be intersecting. With clear bright markings correcting his mistakes, the answer was parallel.
They were parallel.

Win(d)fôl: a piece of unexpected good fortune || After a bad breakup, you’ve given up on the prospect of a relationship, and on romance in general. Things take a turn once you get dragged to a mysterious party an encounter an alluring stranger.
A/N— Happy 2021~ I hope you guys enjoy this sinful fic! This was the first fic I ever wrote a threesome scene for and I was quite happy with how it turned out. Reviews and reblogs are greatly appreciated <3
Tumblr media
Ever since your breakup, it was as if love was in the air for everyone but you. Seeing happy couples everywhere served as a constant reminder of your bitter split with your longtime boyfriend. Your jerk ex-boyfriend dumped you right before the holiday season, even after you had planned to spend Christmas and New Years’ with him. Left dejected and inconsolable, you gave up on the idea of romance.
“You gotta stop moping around,” your friend, Chungha, tried to cheer you up.
Chungha was single too, but by choice. Boys (and girls) were constantly flinging themselves at her. She didn’t care for a relationship at this time, and would rather opt for meaningless one night stands.
“Come with me tonight!” she excitedly shoved a flyer in your face.
“Love is Out, Lust is In! An exciting one night event dedicated to adventurous singles who just want to have fun…” you read the flyer aloud, “Yeah, I don’t know about that.”
“Girl, you gotta stop feeling sorry for yourself! It’s not your fault that that idiot dumped you. To be honest, I always thought you could do so much better,” Chungha rubbed your back, “I’m not gonna force you to meet anyone new, but one night out can’t hurt. You might even have a serendipitous encounter!”
“Fine, I’ll go. But just to watch over you, I don’t want some creep to follow you around all night,” you caved in.
“I love my little knight in shining armor! This’ll be so fun,” she excitedly clung onto your arm, “I’ll pick you up tonight. Wear something sexy! I think the motif is black? Something appropriate for an anti-lovey dovey stuff.”
Tumblr media
It was nearly time for Chungha to pick you up. You concluded that dressing up for the first time in ages was the right move. Maybe it was about damn time to move on from your past.
“Ohhh girl you look amazing!” Chungha praised as you stepped outside, “There’s no way you WON’T be getting dicked down tonight.”
“Oh hush, before I change my mind. I haven’t worn anything this revealing in forever,” you tried to hide your embarrassment.
You were wearing a black mesh top that revealed your bra (the one that makes your boobs look the best of course) paired with a flattering skirt. You felt sexy, but you didn’t have the confidence that you used to. Chungha also looked amazing, but that was a given.
“Where did you learn about this event?” you asked as she drove.
“My friends in the cabaret club told me about it,” she answered.
“You have friends who work in a cabaret club? That’s cool,” you mused as you gazed out the window.
“Not exactly. It’s just called that; it’s really just a group of girls who like to brunch on the weekends. The place we’re going to is known for being a bit secretive,” she smiled.
“What does that mean?” you start to get anxious.
“You’ll see!” she said gleefully.
The venue looked more like some millionaire’s mansion. The property was stowed away at the end of a sketchy road that was more akin to a beaten up dirt path. However, you saw that the lot in front of the house was littered with fancy cars; from G Wagons to Bugattis. The guests emerging from the vehicles all looked like celebrities.
“Where the hell are we?” you asked Chungha.
“Not quite sure, but I can’t wait to find out,” she was also awestruck.
Upon arrival, a gentleman stationed at the entrance requested for your invitation. Chungha pulled out a fancy envelope and casually handed it to him. It looked far more formal than the flyer she showed you earlier.
“Is this your plus one?” he gruffly asked.
“Yep,” Chungha linked her arm in yours.
“Very well. Here are your masks. Enjoy your stay,” he responded curtly.
“Masks? Chungha, seriously. Where the hell are we? I was picturing some dingy club based off of the flyer you showed me. Not to mention that I am drastically underdressed,” you admitted as you helped her put on her mask.
Chungha took the sparkly white mask that was adorned with feathers, which was fitting since it made her look even more angelic. Your mask was matte black accented with gold trimmings. It was far more elegant than the outfit you were wearing.
“Okay, I confess. I made the flyer. I knew you’d decline if I told you it was actually a swanky invite only shindig. I’m sorry for lying! I just really wanted to take you out,” she pouted.
Her puppy dog eyes worked on you every time.
“I forgive you. I don’t know if I’d ever get to experience something like this without you anyway,” you pulled her in for a hug.
“Aw yay! Alright, we’re gonna have a bunch of fun tonight! Also, you look hot. Don’t worry about what you look like. Plus, I have a feeling that people aren’t gonna care,” she says as soon as you both enter the foyer.
Your jaw dropped as soon as you saw the most sumptuous house imaginable. The foyer opened the house up to two grand staircases. The baroque decor screamed nothing but lavish expectations for the rest of the house. Chungha led the way into the large room past the staircases. The room was even more magnificent than the entrance, with white marble pillars creating the doorways.
The place was bustling with activity. Once you finished admiring the place, your attention turned to the guests. Some women were wearing seductive gowns, while others were only wearing beautiful (and probably extremely expensive) lingerie. All of the men were wearing suits or tuxedos. With the motley of outfits you observed, you figured what you were wearing really wasn’t that strange.
“Drinks ladies?” a waitress materialized from thin air.
“Yes please! Thanks,” Chungha quickly grabbed two glasses.
Your eyes widened as the waitress walked away. She was wearing a thin white sheet that was completely see through, and she wasn’t wearing anything underneath.
You realized that this must have been their uniform, as the rest of the servers were dressed the same way. Both males and females.
“CHUNGHA!” a shrill voice cut through the air.
“Ah hey! Thank you so much for inviting me!” Chungha greeted the girl who called out to her.
“Of course! I live for these parties! I’ve never seen hotter men anywhere else,” the girl winked, “My uncle wants the guests to know that all of the servers are available. All the rooms upstairs are unlocked, unless they’re being used of course. I hope you ladies get a good catch tonight!” the girl quickly hugged both of you before scampering away.
“The servers are all available…? For what?” you shot a confused look to Chungha.
“I think you can figure that out,” she smiled sheepishly.
“Chungha, did you invite me to a freaking orgy!?” you cried out.
“You said you wanted to watch over me!” she playfully argued, “You’re already here, ___. You might as well try to enjoy yourself.”
“I guess I’ll settle for people watching,” you sighed.
“Oh! I see someone I know, I’ll be right back,” Chungha squeezed your arm before disappearing into the crowd.
After snatching another drink from a scandalously clad waiter, you retreated to an empty corner. You hoped to observe the guests unnoticed and unbothered. After about half an hour, you noticed an odd pattern. People would woo their target, disappear for a bit, and then return to continue the hunt. Their clothing was often disheveled once they resurfaced, but it didn’t really matter when they were bound to be torn off again.
“Bored?” an unfamiliar voice asked.
“I’m thoroughly entertained,” you answered without taking your eyes off of the party.
“I think I could bring you more entertainment,” the man suggested as he gripped your hips.
“Get your hands off of me!” you push him off.
The assailant was an older man, at least 30 years older than you, and he seemed bewildered that you turned him down. His breath reeked of alcohol, and the dilation of his eyes alluded to his other indulgences of the night.
“I was promised that everyone at this party wanted to have some fun,” he angrily grasped your arm.
You cried out in pain. You were about to punch him in the face until someone else beat you to it. The man crumpled to the ground clutching his bloody nose.
“You little shit! I’ll find out who you are and ruin your life!” the man threatened.
“Mind your tone, worm. Or do I need to beat you senseless to remind you of your place?” your savior shot a baleful glare at the pathetic man who now cowered in fear.
“Are you okay?” your rescuer asked in a soft tone after the man was out of sight.
“Much better now, thank you. That guy was crazy. I’m ___,” you raised your hand for a handshake.
“I’m Jimin. Pleasure to meet you,” he delicately kissed your hand.
His intricate silver mask matched his hair. Even with his face half covered, you could tell that he was remarkably handsome. His dark suit made him look professional yet charming. You felt out of place standing beside him.
“Have you found a partner yet?” he asked bluntly.
“I’m not looking for one; I’m just here to take care of my friend. I don’t think I belong here,” you admitted.
“Why not? I know half of your face is hidden, but I’m willing to bet that you’re more gorgeous than half the people here. I like your style, it shows that you don’t really care for the norm,” Jimin gave you a thumbs up.
Even though it was meant as a compliment, it was off putting to know that you really did stick out like a sore thumb.
“Thanks,” you replied softly, “Have you found yours?”
“Nah, I hate big parties like this. Especially this one,” he shrugged.
“Then why are you here?” you figured that he’d have a line of women begging to sleep with him.
“Much like you, I’m watching over a friend. However, I have lost track of him. Where’s your friend?”
“I lost track of her too,” you laughed.
“If you don’t mind, could we go somewhere quieter? I’d love to get to know you better. Wait, not like that. I genuinely mean I’d like to have a conversation with you,” his flushed cheeks made him even cuter.
“Sure, lead the way, my noble hero,” you took his hand in yours.
It was a bold move, and you usually preferred to play it safe. Tonight was different. You’ll probably never see this guy again. Where’s the harm in flirting a little?
“Of course, my lady,” he played along.
He led you outside to the gardens. Fairy lights were strung up everywhere, giving the gardens an inviting aura. Tall shrubbery caught your eye. Jimin’s eyes followed your gaze.
“It’s a maze,” he said, observing your curiosity.
“This place has an actual labyrinth?” your eyes widened in disbelief.
“Wanna go explore it? I can’t guarantee you that we won’t get lost,” he offered.
“Yes please!” your eyes lit up.
Jimin couldn’t help but smile at your ebullience. How did someone so sweet end up in a twisted place like this?
“Can we take off these silly masks now? I hate wearing mine,” Jimin squeezed your hand.
“Sure, I don’t care. I apologize in advance if you go blind after seeing my face,” you jested.
You both took a moment to soak in each other’s true appearances. Jimin was more handsome than you could’ve dreamt. His individually delicate features attributed to an overall godly image that you had a hard time believing was real.
“Even more beautiful than I imagined,” Jimin acknowledged you with an approving smile, “Let’s ditch this stupid soiree,” he held out his arm for you.
Abandoning the masks on the ground, you practically dragged Jimin into the labyrinth. Corn mazes at Fall Festivals were fun, but this was the real deal. The hedges were at least 3 meters tall. No one would be able to find you if you actually got lost here.
“I think I heard that the trick is to keep to the right wall,” Jimin explained.
“Why don’t we take turns choosing which way to go? Unless you’re scared of getting lost,” you teased.
“Don’t get mad at me when we’ve been stuck in here for days,” he laughed.
You traversed the maze hand in hand with Jimin. The conversation began to flow naturally. Jimin listened to you intently and replied thoughtfully.
The night darkened as the party was left further behind. Normally, this eerie setting would frighten you, but your company made it bearable. Nothing but the moonlight lit your path now. You were too busy enjoying yourself to realize that you both were hopelessly lost.
“I hope you don’t mind me pointing out that this is the third dead end we’ve encountered in the past two minutes,” Jimin elucidated once you found yourselves staring at a green barrier yet again.
“Do you think someone will come to rescue us?” you started to panic.
“Definitely not tonight. Probably not tomorrow either,” Jimin answered brusquely.
“Let’s retrace our steps again. I might end up eating you if we really do get stuck out here,” you tried to joke.
“Eat me?” Jimin chuckled, “My dear, what if I end up eating you?”
“Sorry pretty boy, but I feel like I could easily beat your ass in hand to hand combat,” you laugh as you turn to leave.
Suddenly, your back was being pinned against a hedge. Jimin placed one of his hands on your shoulder and the other one on your waist.
“Let me rephrase that. What if I end up eating you out?” he raised an eyebrow suggestively.
“I might enjoy that. However,” you quickly hook your leg around his knee to dead leg him.
Jimin’s surprise gave you the opportunity to knock him to the ground. You wrapped your right arm around his left arm, effectively pinning him down. You firmly gripped his left wrist with the same arm, rendering both of his arms useless.
“I don’t think you’re capable of doing that right now,” you fake a pout as your free hand wanders from his chest down to his crotch.
He was already somewhat hard when you began to palm him through his pants. You planted a soft kiss on his neck, sucking slightly before breaking contact. Jimin moaned at the sensation, his hips bucking up into your hand.
“What do you want, pretty boy?” you whispered in his ear as you cupped his length in your hand.
“Oh my god I want to fuck you,” he pleaded.
“You’re in no position to fuck anyone,” you reminded him, tightening your grip on his arms.
“I want you to fuck me, ___,” Jimin’s whines grew desperate.
“Is that so?” you say as you unzip his pants, “Here outside? On the ground? That’s a bit improper for a prince like you, don’t you think?”
His erection was fully exposed now. You slowly pumped him, pleased with his length. It took every bit of self-control to not immediately pounce on his dick. You traced your thumb around the soft tip, causing him to moan again.
“I don’t care. I just need my cock buried in you,” Jimin replied between moans.
“You’re so needy. I guess I could help you out,” you release him from your clutches.
Jimin instantly knocked you onto your back as soon as he was freed. He pinned you the same way you pinned him. You were both impressed and shocked that he learned how to do it already.
“That was a cheeky display. Very hot. I admit that I’ve never begged for pussy before, so props to you,” Jimin awarded you plaudits.
His free hand snaked its way down to your clothed pussy, pleased to find that you were already wet. He toyed with your clit through the fabric of your panties. He relished watching your squirm beneath him.
“It’s not so fun being pinned down, huh?” he kissed your neck in a similar fashion, except he ended his kiss with forceful suckling that was sure to leave a mark.
“I don’t know, it’s kind of fun,” you tried to keep your cool, but were failing miserably.
“Do you want me to touch you, my dear ___?” Jimin asked sweetly.
“Please do,” you exhaled with exasperation.
“You can beg better than that,” he admonished.
“Jimin, fuck me until I forget my own name,” you begged.
“You’ll only know my name by the end of tonight,” Jimin promised as he pulled your panties aside.
He slid in a finger to test how wet you were. You squealed with delight as he easily stuck in two fingers. He expertly curled them in you, grazing your g-spot. Your body tried to move to cope with the pleasure, but Jimin refused to let you go.
“You’re staying right here until I say so. I enjoyed going along with your power play, but you have to learn that I’m the one in charge,” he smirked.
His thumb circled your clit as he mercilessly fingered you. Your legs spasmed as your orgasm led a wave of euphoria across your body.
“Jimin, I’m--oh fuck, I’m cumming,” you cried out.
Jimin helped you ride it out, not slowing down his pace. However, he still didn’t slow down afterward. Your clit was oversensitive and tears began to well in your eyes.
“You’re beautiful when you cum, I want to see it again,” he praised as his pace quickened yet again.
It wasn’t long before your second orgasm hit. The bliss was more intense this time, causing you to cry out even louder. Jimin finally pulled his fingers out of you, then promptly popped them into his mouth.
“You taste like a delicacy,” he said after licking his lips, “You ready to take this cock?”
You nodded silently, as you were attempting to catch your breath.
Jimin aligned his hips with yours. He tantalizingly ran his dick along your wet folds. His tip eventually teased your entrance by barely entering before he took it out again. He loved watching your body beg to be fucked; your hips seemed to move by themselves as they tried to buck into him.
“Jimin, I can’t take this anymore. Stick it in already!” you yelled.
“So impatient,” Jimin chuckled, “Ready?”
“Yes!”
Jimin slowly inserted himself in you. You groaned at the feeling of finally being stretched out by his cock. His tip was fully inside you when a commotion interrupted him.
“We’re fucking lost bro,” a guy said.
“We wouldn’t be in this mess if you listened to me in the first place!” his companion retorted.
Jimin immediately pulled out and helped you up. He shoved his erection into his pants before leaning against a hedge to blend into the shadow.
“You’re the one who said you wanted to go in!” the first man bickered back.
“I said ‘I bet no one else is in there, let’s check it out’”, his companion explained.
“Okay, well now we’re lost. We haven’t even seen a single person since we’ve entered.”
Jimin took you by the hand and quietly led you out of the dead end. He didn’t know where the interrupters were, but he simply went in the opposite direction of their voices.
“We’re all alone now. Pull down your pants, Hobi,” you heard one of the guys say.
“Make me, Yoongi,” the other guy challenged.
“You won’t be so cheeky when my balls are in your mouth,” Yoongi replied, his voice suddenly lower and domineering.
The sound of clothes being ripped off mixed with passionate groans and wet noises grew further away as Jimin navigated through the maze.
“They sound like they’re having fun,” you broke the silence.
“That should have been us,” Jimin was obviously annoyed, “I’m gonna get us the fuck out of this goddamn maze. I swear to god, I’m going to dick you down properly tonight.”
You didn’t know which was more impressive: sheer luck or Jimin’s determination. Either way, one of those things (or maybe some of both) allowed both of you to finally emerge from the maze’s clutches.
Jimin dragged you back to the mansion while completely ignoring everyone who called out to him. You’re not surprised by his popularity; this man looks like he was carved by God himself.
The party had only escalated inside the mansion. Guests had started to forgo public decency altogether. You saw at least three explicit acts of fornication on your way up to the private rooms.
Once upstairs, you heard nothing but people deep in the throes of passion on the other side of just about every door. Jimin led you past them all, not even stopping in front of the ones indicated as ‘vacant’. At the end of the neverending hall was a large ornate wooden door. Its style clashed with the sleek marble that decorated the rest of the mansion.
Jimin whipped out a key from his pocket and unlocked the door. You weren’t prepared for what was on the other side. Unlike the modern style that fitted the rest of the house, this room was decorated with wood.
The carved wooden furniture gleamed brightly due to their polish. The room itself was huge. A king sized bed awaited you at the opposite wall. Elegant curtains draped around the bed, reminding you of the beds royalty would use in movies. Even though the room gave off a cozy aura, it still boasted opulence.
“You like it?” Jimin asked once he saw you gazing around the room in awe.
“It’s beautiful. It feels like I’m in some Elvish Woodland King’s room or something,” you spoke honestly.
“That’s high praise,” he chuckled, “C’mon. I believe we have some unfinished business,” he pulled you onto the bed.
Jimin kissed your neck, peppering in nibbles that made you shudder. You slipped off your skirt and panties as he fondled your breasts. You helped him undress as you threw off his suit jacket and unbuttoned his shirt. You held back a gasp when his abs and toned chest were revealed. You figured he was fit, but you didn’t realize how fit.
His fingers found their way back into your pussy. Jimin sucked on your neck as his nimble fingers made you wetter by the second. Your back arched as your moaned in pleasure when his thumb played with your clit.
“I’m so fucking wet, Jimin,” you breathed into his ear.
“All for me, baby?” he cooed.
“Who else? Honestly, I’ve never been this aroused in my life,” you admitted.
“I’m happy I could change that for you. If you liked my fingers that much, let’s see what my cock can do for you,” he winked as he tugged off his pants.
Jimin spread your legs open as far as they could go. He didn’t have the patience to tease you this time. He filled your pussy up with the entirety of his cock. You relished the stretch; you’ve been waiting all night for this the moment you laid eyes on him.
Jimin began vigorously thrusting into you. The sound of his hips slamming into you coupled with the wet noises of your sopping pussy were drowned out by moans from both parties. Hearing Jimin’s grunts only turned you on more, and the same could be said whenever Jimin heard your melodic moans.
Jimin leaned over to makeout with you, his tongue dipping between your parted lips. You clawed at his back while you kissed him back with ferocious reciprocity. You were getting close to climaxing yet again.
“Jimin, I’m so--”
“Missionary? I know you can do better than that,” an unfamiliar voice interrupted you.
“Fuck off, can’t you see that I’m busy?” Jimin replied angrily, yet he never stopped fucking you.
You were so embarrassed that you grabbed a pillow to hide your face. One person seeing you like this was already flustering enough, but two? Although your mind immediately went to shaming you for being in such a compromising position, it was also kind of a turn on.
“Aw, is she shy? That’s cute,” the unfamiliar boy said.
“What do you want?” Jimin finally pulled out to actually hold a conversation with the intruder.
“I got bored. I figured I’d come in here and jack off or something. I didn’t think you’d be using it,” the voice got closer.
“Well, I am. So get lost,” Jimin growled.
Suddenly, the pillow that covered your face was yanked off. Looking down at you was a man whose beauty rivaled Jimin’s (though you didn’t think that was possible). The man had more of a boyish devil-may-care look. His long dark hair framed his face perfectly, as it showed off his sharp jawline. He traced a finger from your cheek down to your chin.
“She’s cute,” he gave Jimin an approving nod.
“Yeah, and she’s mine. Go away, Jungkook,” Jimin was getting more frustrated by the second.
“Yours? Are you guys dating already?” Jungkook raised his eyebrows in amusement.
“No, but--”
“Then it should be fine if I did this,” Jungkook cupped your face with one hand as he bent down to kiss you.
“Jungkook!” Jimin threw a pillow at him.
Jungkook chuckled as the pillow harmlessly bounced off of him. He deepened the kiss, and soon your tongues were swirling over each other. One of his hands wandered over to your breasts. He pinched your nipple, causing you to gasp into his mouth.
“Oh, she’s so sensitive,” Jungkook smirked, “Let me play with her after you.”
“She’s not a toy,” Jimin defended you.
“It’s okay,” you said softly.
“What?” both of the boys asked in unison.
“You can both use me...however you like,” you looked away shyly, bewildered at what you had just said.
“Fuck, that’s hot,” Jungkook grinned.
“You’re too sweet for your own good, ___. Are you sure?” Jimin asked.
You simply nodded, not able to make eye contact with either of them.
“Alright, baby. Let me take care of you first. Jungkook, you can watch how a man properly fucks a lady,” Jimin glared at Jungkook.
Jungkook stripped down to his underwear as Jimin flipped you onto your knees. You moaned loudly as he started hitting it from the back. This position allowed him to penetrate you even deeper. You buried your face in the sheets in an attempt to muffle your whines.
“Nuh uh,” Jimin tsked as he grabbed a fistful of your hair.
He pulled your head up, exposing your lustful moans. He thrusted harder when he heard you. You opened your eyes to find Jungkook intently staring at you. Feeling cheeky, you made a ‘come here’ motion with one of your pointer fingers.
Jungkook happily obliged. Instead of directly kissing you, he licked up your neck, causing you to shudder. He sucked lightly on your neck as he once again played with your boobs.
“You’re not mad, Jimin?” he was surprised.
“She got wetter. Keep doing whatever you’re doing,” Jimin was lost in pure bliss.
Jungkook pulled you into another heated makeout session. You periodically moaned into his mouth whenever he tugged at your nipples. You whined as he broke the kiss.
“Such a good girl,” Jungkook stroked your cheek, “Wanna try something?” he asked.
You eagerly nodded. It was hard to think when one gorgeous man was making out with you and pinching your nipples, while another gorgeous man was roughly fucking you from behind.
“Open your mouth and stick your tongue out,” Jungkook ordered.
You complied, opening as wide as you could. You watched Jungkook reveal his hard cock, which made your mouth water. His dick was bigger than Jimin’s, but less girthy. It had a little curve that made it look prettier for some reason.
“Want me to put it in? I’d love to see how deep you can take it,” Jungkook stroked his cock.
“I’ll take it all,” you said confidently.
Jungkook smiled at your determination. He lightly placed the tip onto your tongue. You twirled your tongue around it, making Jungkook moan with surprise.
“Maybe she’s not as shy as I thought,” he said to Jimin.
Jimin harshly spanked your ass, causing you to jerk forward. You heard him chuckle behind you.
“I love it when good girls go bad. They’re always the most fun,” Jimin reached his hand around you to play with your clit.
You almost lost control in your arms and fell forward when Jungkook grabbed you.
“You have to be a good girl and hold yourself up. We can fuck you from both sides if you do that, babygirl,” Jungkook ran his thumb along your drooly lips.
You propped yourself back up on your arms and opened your mouth again for Jungkook. He patted your head in approval before placing his dick back onto your tongue. He began pushing himself into your mouth, his eyes never leaving yours.
“Blink twice if it’s too much,” Jungkook instructed.
To his surprise, you managed to take in his full length. You kept gagging since Jimin was thrusting you forward, but that just made it feel better for Jungkook. Jungkook let you know that he was going to start face fucking you, to which you nodded in response. Well, as much as you could nod while his penis was in your mouth.
It didn’t take long for both of the both to boys to fuck you in unison. They rhythmically pulled out and thrusted into you at the exact same time. The intensity of everything turned you on so much, you could feel your juices running down your legs.
Your climax hit you like a truck. Your legs spasmed under you as you cried and gagged on Jungkook’s dick. The feeling of you cumming on Jimin’s cock brought him to the edge. Almost immediately after, Jimin pulled out and came all over your ass.
“Switch places with me,” Jungkook instructed Jimin, “You didn’t think you were done yet, did you?” he winked at you before pulling his dick out of your mouth.
Your sensitivity was through the roof. Jungkook didn’t give you any warning before he inserted himself in you. Jungkook went even deeper than Jimin, and your legs were on the verge of giving out.
“It looks like she can’t hold herself anymore,” Jimin observed with a sly smile.
“I guess I have to do all the work. Stupid slut,” Jungkook groaned, abruptly snatching your arms.
He chuckled when you momentarily fell forward onto your face, but he easily lifted you back up by pulling back on your wrists. You’ve never been roughly restrained like that before, but you wouldn’t complain. Jungkook’s powerful thighs slammed into you repeatedly.
You couldn’t begin to comprehend how sinful you looked: titties bouncing, messy hair, and a lustful expression that rivaled that of succubi themselves. Not to mention you were practically glowing from the film of sweat that developed over the night.
“I’m jealous that he’s kissed you more than I have,” Jimin pouted before he cupped your face.
Wriggling underneath you, Jimin made it easier for you to kiss him. His pillowy lips felt heavenly as he playfully fondled your breasts. He didn’t twist or pinch your nipples like Jungkook did. Instead, he massaged them in a way that still felt delightful.
“Dude, your junk is really close to mine,” Jungkook complained.
“I don’t give a fuck,” Jimin responded between your kisses.
Jungkook’s pace started getting sloppy. You could tell he was close just by his irregular breaths. The room was filled with lewd sounds. Jungkook’s grunts, Jimin’s moans, and your mewls all blended into a chorus of carnal pleasure.
“Fuck, you’re so hot,” Jungkook stuttered before pulling out.
You felt his hot juices splatter across your backside. You toppled onto Jimin when Jungkook let go of your wrists. Jimin just chuckled and held you in a warm embrace.
“You did so well, ___,” he praised before kissing your forehead.
“Was that your first threesome? If so, I’m impressed,” Jungkook cleaned you up with a warm washcloth.
“Mhm,” was all you could muster up to answer his question.
“She’s pretty out of it. Should she stay here for the night?” Jimin asked Jungkook.
“You’re offering to house her? You must have really loved her pussy,” Jungkook laughed.
“Shut up, I’m being serious. I don’t want to let her go back out there to those animals,” Jimin disclosed.
“Did she come alone?” Jungkook sat at the foot of the bed.
“She said she was watching a friend...I don’t think she mentioned who though. Hey, ___, darling, who did you come with?” Jimin gently questioned.
“Chungha,” you said meekly.
“Holy shit. Everyone has been trying to get with her all night,” Jungkook was shocked, “Yeah, I think her friend will be fine on her own. I can watch after her if you want.”
“By watch you mean fuck?” Jimin rolled his eyes.
“Who’s to say I haven’t already?” Jungkook replied cheekily, “You’ve been the most fun I’ve had in a while though,” Jungkook affectionately began scratching your back.
Your eyelids were getting heavier with each passing moment. You instinctively clutched onto Jimin tighter. You’ve always been a cuddler when it was time to sleep.
“I’m gonna go, want me to lock the door?” you heard Jungkook say.
“Yes please. I’ll see you tomorrow,” Jimin sent him off.
“Are you sleepy?” he asked while stroking your hair.
“Mhm. And hungry,” you said half asleep.
“What would you like to eat?” Jimin inquired.
“Grilled cheese,” you said without skipping a beat.
“Just grilled cheese? I could get you anything you want. Lobster, caviar, takoyaki, or maybe even steak?” Jimin was eager to take care of you.
“What time is it?” you asked groggily.
“Uh, a little past 1am.”
“It’s time for a midnight snack. And grilled cheese is the perfect midnight snack,” you nodded your head to confirm your reasoning.
“God, you’re adorable. Alright, a grilled cheese will be here soon,” he kissed your forehead again.
“You go make it?” you pouted, not wanting him to leave your side.
“No, I just texted one of the chefs,” he answered.
“Oh, you’re friends with a chef? That’s nice.”
“Somewhat? They work for my father.”
“Is your father the head chef?”
“No, he’s a businessman,” Jimin chuckled.
“Do you like business? Like your father?”
“No, I actually detest it. My father’s riches mean nothing if he can’t even love his family. He does ridiculous things to showcase his ‘love’ but I don’t buy it. Like this stupid fucking party that he throws every year. His excuse is that he’s providing any luxury money can buy. It’s all just bullshit,” Jimin sounded upset.
“This party? Your dad hosted it?” intrigue stirred you from your sleepy state.
“Yeah, this is the house I grew up in. This is my room,” Jimin admitted.
You were silent for a bit before responding, “I’m sorry your dad is a dick.”
“Don’t worry about it, it’s not your fault. At least one good thing came out of tonight,” he squeezed you tighter.
A knock at the door interrupted your thoughts. Jimin retrieved the delivery. Never in a million years would you have thought that you’d be eating grilled cheese off of a silver platter. Jimin ate quietly beside you.
“I don’t know if this is too forward, but would you like to go on a date with me sometime?” he finally piped up.
“I literally can’t think of anyone that has seen me more intimately than you. Well, besides Jungkook. Of course, I’ll go on a date with you,” you leaned over to kiss Jimin’s nose.
“I guess the dating timeline is a little off since you’re spending the night here too,” Jimin laughed before stopping himself, “Wait, you are spending the night, right?”
“I have no idea where Chungha is, and she’s my ride,” you shrugged.
“You’re welcome to say here if you’d like,” he offered.
“I suppose I can clear my schedule for you,” you teased.
With a tummy full of grilled cheese, it didn’t take long for you to fall sound asleep in Jimin’s arms.
[9:24am from Chungha] BITCH! I heard rumors you slept with THE Park Jimin?! A different rumor said you slept with Jeon Jungkook??? Explain please???
[10:19am] What if I slept with both?
[10:20am from Chungha] NO WAY! Tell me all about it asap
“You good?” Jimin nuzzled your neck.
“Never better,” you smiled.

~ Monday, 3:00pm ~
The explosion at Harvard labs reverberated throughout the campus and the surrounding suburb. The ER is swamped, an all hands on deck situation. Ambulance after ambulance arrives, wheeling in more patients before departing. Doctors and nurses are being pulled every which way, trying to help as many patients as promptly as possible. But they’re quickly becoming overwhelmed. Empty boxes of sterile gloves line the walls, medical equipment wrappers scatter the floor. They can barely hear each others’ shouts over the cries and less severe injuries are left unattended as the dire patients are intubated, defibrillated, or ushered off to an OR.
Ethan, Naveen, and Serena’s friends are on the ER floor, moving as quickly as they can, doing as much as they can, hoping their training and expertise is enough. But every time someone enters the hospital, they can’t help but pause for a beat and stare, hoping it’s her.

Patients are referred to by their room number, blurring together. Everyone is exhausted, limbs heavy, grabbing yet another cup of coffee to keep going.
“Incoming!” A handful of nurses and doctors leave their stable patients and rush to the entrance, receiving the new bout of admittees.
“What’ve we got?”
“Two individuals, one male, one female, recovered just outside one of the classified Harvard labs. They’re unconscious, but stable. We didn’t see any obvious injuries, but that doesn’t rule out anything internal. The site of the explosion just cleared enough for us to work our way there,” one of the EMTs respond.
Ethan’s ears perk up at this new piece of information, but before he can corner the EMT, there’s another shout.
“We need an OR room stat!!!” Everyone turns towards the automatic doors at the familiar voice.
Rapidly pushing the side of a stretcher, is Rafael, his face ashen.*
Reclined on the stretcher, is Serena.
Ethan feels his world stop, the noise and hurried movements of the ER fading to black as his eyes trail over her. She’s covered in blood, drifting in and out of consciousness, and breathing through an oxygen mask. There’s several visible gashes on her head and body, but the most alarming thing is the large piece of metal protruding from the side of her abdomen.
She slowly turns her head towards him, as if she can sense his presence nearby.
As they lock eyes, he regains his senses, and rushes to her side.
While the paramedics continue to push the stretcher, he reaches for her hand and clutches it over his heart. "Baby, can you hear me?!"
She blinks groggily at him, acknowledging his words.
"H—," she swallows. "...Hurts," she manages to squeak out.
He nods continuously, his other hand reaching up to brush her blood-matted hair away from her face. "I know, baby, I know. Help is on the way. Until then, I need you to stay awake, okay?" He lifts her hand and kisses it. "Look at me, focus on me, and stay here with me," he urges. He relaxes a fraction of an inch when he feels her lightly squeeze his hand.
"Dr. Ramsey, I need you to step back!"
He shakes his head furiously. "I'm scrubbing in."
"The hell you are! We both know you can't be in there." Harper watches him closely. He's hunched over the stretcher, keeping pace, knuckles white from gripping Serena’s hand, eyes never leaving her face.
Harper sighs and her voice softens just a touch. "Let me do my job."**
He knows Harper is right, but Serena’s eyes are searching his and the thought of leaving her side makes him sick.
"E…"
"I'm here, I'm right here," he responds, tapping their entwined hands over his heart, hoping she can feel the heart that beats for her.
"I lo—," she lets out a breath and her eyes close.
"Rookie?" Her head lolls to the side.
"SERENA!!" He squeezes her hand multiple times, but her hand remains limp in his grasp.
As they push through the doors to the OR, her hand is ripped away from his. He reaches for her, but is stopped by Naveen and a few security guards he called for backup.
"LET ME THROUGH!! SERENA!!!" His voice cracks over her name. He continues to fight, leaving the security guards no choice but to drag him back towards the ER entrance.
Naveen stands in front of him. "ETHAN! You're not in the right state to be in the OR! Serena needs you to trust in Harper and her team. She needs you to be here when she wakes up! And you can't do that if I have to lock you down!"
Naveen takes in the man before him. Ethan's normally perfectly coiffed hair is in disarray, strands falling in his eyes. Cheeks flushed from the effort of screaming and battling the guards' hold. Hands and clothes covered in blood. Serena’s blood.
Naveen's heart plummets at the realization and it aches for the man he's come to consider a son.
Ethan stares down Naveen, chest heaving. After a few seconds, he gives a curt nod. Naveen waves his hand and the guards let go.
As soon as Ethan has range of motion, he walks to the nearest wall, and punches it. He walks away in a huff, leaving a room full of stunned individuals, and a gaping hole in the wall.
~ 8:45pm ~
Ethan sits with his head hung low in the waiting room, elbows resting on his bouncing knees, hands clenched together. Different people have come through, taking turns checking on him. He only mumbles or moves his head in response. The assortment of food and drinks brought to him remain untouched. He refuses to go home, sleep, or even change out of his bloodied clothes. Each time there's slight movement in the direction of the OR entry, he immediately turns towards it, only to be disappointed.
Naveen has been watching from afar, waiting to take his turn. He meanders over, silently taking a seat next to Ethan. He leans back in his chair, lacing his fingers over his stomach. He sits calmly, patiently.
After ten minutes, Ethan lets out a shaky breath.
"She needed me," he whispers, barely loud enough to be heard.
Naveen remains quiet, waiting for Ethan to continue.
“She left me a voicemail… said she was scared, that she wanted to hear my voice. I’m supposed to be her protector, but I didn't even pick up the phone.” He buries his head in his hands.
Naveen leans forward, gently placing a hand on Ethan's shoulder.
"My boy. You couldn't possibly have known what was going to transpire today. You can't hold yourself responsible. Don't think I haven't seen the way you look at her, treat her. How you're always standing slightly behind her, a pillar of support during patient interactions, ready to step in if need be. How you consistently have a gentle hand on her, guiding her through the busy corridors. How you wait to leave together so she doesn't have to take the T,*** despite the fact that your shift ended hours earlier. You do protect her, every single day."
"But when she needed me most!” He shakes his head. “I wasn't there. I failed her. Miserably.” He runs his hands through his hair.
"She is everything to me, Naveen, everything. She's shown me what it means to be loved unconditionally, that vulnerability isn't a weakness. I no longer see the world in strictly black and white, or even in shades of grey. I see hues of red, purple, green, the whole damn rainbow, all because of her. She's made me a better mentor and doctor, a better son, a better man. I can’t even imagine where, or who, I’d be now without her. I wasted so much time running from my feelings, when committing to her has been the best decision I've ever made.”
He takes a steadying breath.
"She's the love of my life and now… not only may I never get the chance to tell her, but I also may never get to see our future together," his voice cracks and tears stream down his face.
He swivels his head slowly to face Naveen. "I can't lose her. I just can't."
Naveen nods solemnly. "I’m worried too; I don’t want to lose her either. One of the best surgeons in the country is leading her case. You know Harper and her team will do everything they can and we know Serena is one hell of a fighter. She has to be, to have gotten past your walls and to deal with you on a daily basis,” he teases.
It does the trick, as Ethan chuckles through his tears, nodding in agreement.
“She really is something, isn’t she?”
“She really is,” Naveen responds with a twinkle in his eyes. “And that’s another reason why I have faith. She's a warrior, having fought so long for you, for your relationship, and she knows you’re out here, waiting for her, waiting to be reunited and happy together. She wouldn’t give up now.”
Naveen locks eyes with his protégé.
“The two of you? The story is far from over. I know that in my soul.”
Ethan holds Naveen’s determined gaze, drawing strength from it, and sits up a little straighter.
“Thank you, Naveen. It means more than you know. And… I’ll take care of the hole in the wall,” Ethan grimaces.
“Don’t worry about it, my boy. I’m just relieved you didn’t do more damage,” he laughs. “And if we’re being completely honest, I’d be more shocked if you hadn’t punched a wall.”
Naveen gives Ethan a wink before he stands and walks back towards his office, leaving Ethan shaking his head in amusement, feeling a bit lighter and more hopeful.
~ Tuesday, 1:30am; 1 Day Since Attack ~
Ethan had finally dozed off, albeit uncomfortably, in a waiting room chair, when he felt a petite hand gently shaking him awake. He lifted his head and opened his eyes, coming face-to-face with Harper. He bolts up.
“Where is she? How is she?” Ethan’s eyes are frantic, searching Harper’s face for any sign of information.
She remains silent for a few beats.
“She’s currently being moved to the ICU.”
“She’s alive?”
Harper nods. “She’s alive.”
Before Ethan can breathe a sigh of relief, Harper continues.
“But Ethan… it was really bad. The piece of metal in her body was larger than we thought. It spanned from her kidney to her lungs. It was only two centimeters away from puncturing her heart. Additionally, it was so embedded within her body that every time she took a breath, it dug itself deeper. This isn’t even mentioning the bits of shrapnel she had in other places.”
She squares her shoulders, bracing herself for what she’s about to tell her friend.
“At one point during the surgery, she flatlined.”
Ethan gasps and his eyes widen.
“For a very short, and scary, moment, she was gone.”
Harper’s words hit Ethan like a semi-truck and he has to sit back down to try and calm his thundering heartbeat. Harper crouches down in front of him, eyes softening.
“But we were able to bring her back and I strongly believe that the brief lack of oxygen will not have any lasting effects.”
“However, she has been through a lot in the past twelve hours,” she gently places her hand on his shoulder. “She’s still in a coma and we cannot say for certain if she’ll wake back up.”
Ethan tightly shuts his eyes and balls his hands into fists.
“I assure you, Ethan, that we did everything we could. But now, it’s up to her, and her body, to decide if she wants to rejoin us.”
A tear slips down Ethan’s face.
“Can I see her?” His words come out soft, broken.
“No visitors until she makes it through the night. But, you can see her through the window.”
Ethan is unmoving, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.
Harper stands. “Come on,” she tilts her head slightly. “Let’s take a walk.”
Ethan follows suit and they make their way through the waiting room, side by side.
~ 2:00 am ~
Before Ethan knows it, they’re in the ICU, Harper having coyly led him in that direction. She comes to a stop in front of a room.
“This is her. If you need anything at all, you know where to find me.”
Ethan stops her as she begins to turn away, looking at her earnestly.
“Thank you for saving her, Harper. It means…,” he sighs. “Everything.”
“Don’t thank me yet,” she responds, eyes fixed on Serena through the window.
Ethan gives a weak nod.
“She’s a stubborn one. I have a feeling she isn’t done with us yet.”
She turns and walks down the hall a ways, before glancing back. Ethan has one hand on the glass, watching Serena wistfully. She hopes that doing everything she could was enough.
~~~~~~
Disclaimers:
*I kept Rafael as an EMT because I wanted to include as much of the crew as possible and having a friend wheel Serena in adds to the angst deliciousness.
**I know Harper is a neurosurgeon, but I wanted to include her badass self and a bit of her platonic friendship with Ethan. So slight Harper AU!
Speaking of AUs and plots, OC damages someones car by accident and instead of money they want to be paid back in dates.
Anonymous said: For the request: “I can make you a deal you can’t refuse.”
2.3k || 100% Light Fluff || Kim Seokjin
Seokjin grips the steering wheel.
He blows through the yellow light even though he should’ve stopped but there’s no time to waste, not when the last thing he wants is to be late for the meeting. Everything has to be perfect.
Which is what makes this phone call the worst.
“I’m not coming.”
“What?!” Jin looks to the display screen where there’s Jisoo’s name as if he can telepathically send her his exasperated expression. “Why not?!”
“You know why. I don’t want to be a doll that’s supposed to sit there silently, Seokjin. I’m done.”
“No. Please. You know how important this meeting is to me. You can’t be doing this—”
“Oh, yes I can.”
She hangs up. Seokjin groans, the urge to slam his forehead against the steering wheel overwhelming. But he resists and when he gets to the next red light, he frantically calls Yoongi.
The dial tone rings over his car speakers and then the man picks up. Yoongi is calm by nature and there’s little that can faze him. But now, his voice pitches up every so slightly. “What’s wrong? Aren’t you on your way to meeting the Jeon’s?”
“Yeah, but Jisoo just called to tell me she’s not coming.”
“Oh shit.”
Family. Marriage. Commitment. They’re essential pillars for the Jeon’s who’ve been married for fifty years. They’re old school, the epitome of tradition. The plan was for Jin to look like a family man too, to add to his own integrity and to show that he shares the Jeon’s company values. And everything matters when it comes to the contract they’ve been trying to sign for the past year. A minuscule detail like this could tip the scales and make the Jeon’s sign with the competitor instead.
“Is Irene there?” Jin asks as he drives. “Maybe she can come instead.”
“She’s already running an errand for Hoseok. Just...make something up. Maybe you can say—”
At the exact same time, as Seokjin stops for a red light, the entire car jolts forward without warning. He nearly slams his head on the wheel — this time, unintentionally.
What the fuc—
“Yoongi, wait. I just got rear-ended.”
“What?!”
As if things couldn’t get worse today. Jin undoes his seat belt and climbs out of the car. The perpetrator of the accident also gets out and he looks at you who’s completely wide-eyed.
“I’m so sorry!” you screech in horror. “I was just singing to this new album and looking around, I’ve never driven on this street before and I wasn’t paying attention, I’m so so sorry.”
You come to look at the damage at his bumper and a gasp tears from your throat. It’s a Maserati.
You don’t know much about cars, but even you’re aware this is a luxury vehicle imported from somewhere in Europe. Germany. France. Italy. One of those fancy countries where you haven’t even dreamed of traveling to. You don’t know much but one thing’s certain — you’re so fucked.
As you’re losing your mind, Seokjin taps his foot and checks his watch.
His eyes bulge when he realizes the hour’s almost up. “Do you have your insurance information?” he blurts, interrupting your internal meltdown.
“I-Insurance?” You deflate all at once. “I don’t.”
Seokjin sighs and glances over his shoulder. The Hwagae Hotel where the meeting was taking place was so close that he could practically see the entrance door from here.
There’s no more time to waste.
“I’m heading to the Hwagae Hotel.” He points down the street. “Do you want to talk about it there?”
You nod dejectedly and get back into your car to follow him into the hotel’s parking lot before you slow down traffic any more than you already have. Getting more angry drivers on your back is the last thing you need at the moment. At the same time, your mind scrambles for solutions. But it comes up empty.
God fucking dammit. You shouldn’t have been cheap. You should’ve just gone hungry for an entire week to get the car insurance. Why on earth did you think you didn’t need it?!
By the time you get out of your car again, you’re on the verge of tears.
You eye the expensive, sleek black car. Then your eyes stray to the stranger.
“I...I don’t have much money I can give you.”
Jin glances at his watch and then at you. He finally gets a good look at you. Or rather, he notices your simple skirt and blouse ensemble. In an instant, a light bulb flickers in his brain.
“You don’t need to pay if you follow me.” His head nudges towards the hotel and your eyes become rounded at the suggestion. You gawk at the door of the hotel and back at him within seconds, entirely horrified. Seokjin quickly clarifies, “I have a business brunch inside and I need a partner to go with. You don’t need to do anything. You can just stay silent and eat.”
Seokjin watches as you look at the car and then his crisp suit before you’re slowly coming to nod. “A-Alright.”
He turns on his heel and struts into the hotel lobby without waiting for you.
Seokjin wouldn’t necessarily call himself a spontaneous person, but when push comes to shove and it’s the last moment, he’s good at coming up with fixes. He prides himself on it, having been the person who jumped in at the last second to repair things on more than one occasion.
Podium mic not working at the charity banquet? He ran to the nearby mall and bought a portable karaoke microphone at a booth. The client has a pollen allergy he didn’t know about? He threw the flowers on the table out the window when she turned around. The handouts for the shareholder meeting were forgotten? He announced they were going paperless.
The point is: Seokjin will do whatever it takes. Even if his methods are unconventional.
He enters the lavish hotel restaurant, already finding the couple by the windows. He brushes past the hostess with a sparkling smile and peeks over his shoulder to make sure you’re still following after him.
“Seokjin!”
They’re an old couple in professional garb. The man is in a gray suit while the woman is in a modest navy dress. He doesn’t miss the Louis Vuitton purse next to her wine glass filled with water.
“It’s good to see you, Mr. Jeon. You as well, Mrs. Jeon.”
He shakes their hands and at once, Mrs. Jeon looks at you with her brows raised. “And who is this?”
“This is my partner….”
“Y/N,” you fill in for him, realizing he doesn’t even know your name. You’ve been through your fair share of meetings, so you smile and shake their hands with ease.
As strange as the situation is, you’re just relieved he wasn’t lying about it. You had the impression he wasn’t, but you were ready to hightail it out of here if he brought you into a hotel room.
“I didn’t know you had a partner, Seokjin,” the older man notes, impressed and curious.
Jin laughs. “Well, I’m glad you know now.”
Everyone takes their seats and the waiter comes by to fill your glasses of water and ask if anyone wants a particular drink. Once he’s sauntered away, the woman across from you makes conversation. “What do you do, Y/N?”
So much for having to do nothing. “I’m an intern at JML.”
“Oh, I have a friend’s niece who works there. Are you looking to become an accountant then?” her husband asks.
“Hopefully.” You smile before lifting the glass of water to your lips.
“That’s so nice,” Mrs. Jeon sighs. “You young-ins should work and develop a career while you still have the chance. Heaven knows things become so much more difficult once you start a family.”
Family? It’s a foreign concept to hear considering it’s not a subject even in the realm of your concern. You manage to stiffly nod.
“How did you two meet?”
You almost spit out your water.
Seokjin reaches over to pat your back as you wheeze. “Are you alright...darling?”
You wipe your mouth with the tablecloth napkin. What was this guy’s name again? Seokho? No that wasn’t it. It had a J in it. Seok...ju? No….
“Seokjin, I’m fine.”
Mrs. Jeon watches the interaction through rose-coloured glasses and smiles knowingly. “My apologies if it’s an intrusive question. I just adore a good love story.”
“Actually, it’s a funny story.” Jin smiles as a sweat bead practically rolls down his face. “Y/N here rear-ended my car when I was on my way to a meeting and that’s how we got to know each other.”
He looks at you and starts to laugh. After a delayed moment, you join in and inwardly cringe at how awkward it sounds. Yet the old couple doesn’t notice.
“How long have you been together?” Mr. Jeon asks with a warm smile, hands threaded on the table.
You look at him and his laughter dies down. “T-Thr-Two years! Yes, two years.”
“Well isn’t that sweet,” she swoons to her husband who nods in approval. “Are you going to get married soon? It’s not good to let a young woman wait too long.”
If you didn’t choke before, you might again. This time from your own saliva.
Mr. Jeon hums. “Yes, I personally don’t think one should wait long if they know it’s the right person.”
“That’s right.”
“Well that’s good news,” Seokjin interjects before you get the chance and he suddenly blurts, “Because we’re already married.”
Your head whirls to him, neck nearly breaking from the whiplash. You gawk at his profile.
Mrs. Jeon gasps in amazement. Mr. Jeon appears intrigued.
As the proclamation leaves his lips, it’s already too late to take it back. Seokjin isn’t spontaneous. He’s just good at quick fixes, too good that they become permanent fixes.
The point is: Seokjin’s an absolute idiot sometimes.
“Really?! Where’s the ring?”
“We’re getting it fixed at the moment. Y/N lost a bit of weight so it kept slipping off her fingers.”
He turns to you and you stare at him incredulously before deadpanning, “Right.”
“When did you get married?” Mr. Jeon asks.
“Recently,” Seokjin lies without batting a single lash. It’s not hard to pitch an idea or an outlandish one at that when he used to work as a door-to-door salesman during his teenage years and then a car salesman during his college years.
Seokjin’s entire career has been built on convincing others.
“So you’re newlyweds then.”
You give him a look. Jin smiles.
“Yes. We are.”
By the end of brunch, you know more about Kim Seokjin than you ever intended to know — case in point, you’re now aware of his last name. You know he’s three years older than you are, that he’s been working at his company for four, and he’s pretty high up on the corporate ladder but is still continuing to climb it. You even know about the possible contract between his company and the Jeon’s, and the open plot of land on Hwarang avenue that would apparently be the perfect location to expand the Golden Resort and turn it into a franchise.
You’re sure he knows way more about you than he’d like to know too.
“I’ll be honest, I was unsure if I wanted to sign with your company, Seokjin. But you’ve shown me you have a lot of integrity and a strong work ethic. I think our values are compatible as well.” Mr. Jeon shakes hands with Seokjin. “You’ll get a call from my office soon and I think you’ll like what you’ll hear.”
“Thank you so much, sir.”
“You’re a lovely couple,” Mrs. Jeon adds on as she looks at the pair of you standing next to one another. “I look forward to seeing you again soon, Y/N.”
“Y-Yes…”
The two of them bid their final farewells and Mr. Jeon lifts his hand to the valet across the lot. Mrs. Jeon hangs off his arm as their Cadillac is driven up to the door. They get in soon after.
It’s silent between you and Seokjin.
“So…..we’re married, huh?”
“I’m sorry.” He turns to you with a heavy sigh. “It was a really important client I have to sign with and they really value family and relationships.”
You nod. It doesn’t really matter now — what’s important is that it’s over. But one thing isn’t. “About your car….”
The both of you walk across the lot to his vehicle and he finally has the time to get a good look at the damage.
There’s a clear dent in his back bumper and a scratch. But luckily, there doesn’t seem to be much anywhere else.
“It’s a ninety nine thousand dollar car.”
You wheeze. “Pardon?”
“I don’t know how much the damage will be, but it might cost a bit.”
Oh my god.
Seokjin suddenly turns to you with a mischievous glint in his eye. “I can make you a deal you can’t refuse. I know you don’t have the means to pay for the damage, so you won’t have to. But in exchange, accompany me to business brunches or galas. It won’t be often and it’ll be similar to what you just experienced. You won’t have to say much and you can even eat for free.”
There’s a drawn out pause. You blink at him owlishly.
“I accidentally told him you were my wife and if you weren’t there from now on, it’ll look suspicious,” Seokjin explains. “It’ll be just for a little while. Maybe half a year? I’ll figure something out after that. How does it sound?”
You know you don’t have much of a choice.
You don’t have insurance and you don’t have money to pay out of pocket. If anything, the offer is generous and Seokjin seems trustworthy — especially considering you’ve gotten to know him in the past hour.
For all those reasons, maybe that’s why you nod. “I can do that.”
He smiles and you brace yourself for a whirlwind.
Fictober Day 2
Prompt #2: Nobody Warned you about me?
Title: One Night in the City of Sin
Rating: T
Warnings: Some Violence
Alexa had been to dive casino’s before, but none had given off the solemn stink of sadness like the Golden Apple. Low ceilings and worn-down carpeting that made you feel like ducking your head even though there was plenty of room. Plaster pillars that might have once been red, now peeling and discolored by decades of cigarette smoke. Neon lights that only gave the faintest whimpers of vibrancy anymore, but still forced to hang on the stained walls. Despite the abundance of tables, there were precious gamblers to play and even fewer actual dealers. The tables were so packed together that the entire casino felt claustrophobic and empty at the same time.
The workers themselves only added to the sense of melancholy and times gone by. Each one Alexa saw looking more run down than the last in their horribly faded and frayed gold jackets. What lights there was did little to illuminate, likely to try and hide how few people there truly were through the fog of cigarette smoke and broken dreams.
Thought fascinated by the pervasive atmosphere, Alexa didn’t let it distract her from her mission. She strode through the clouds of smoke with little regard for the empty people around here. There was only one man she was here to see.
Her eyes raked over the tacky decorations and entertainment until she found a door being guarded by two men. Square-jawed and broad shoulders dressed in cheap suits, they stood on either side of an unmarked door, arms clasped and sneering at anyone who got too close.
They’re eyes locked onto her and she veered in their direction. She imagined that she hardly looked like a regular customer. Her pure white trench coat denoted a level of wealth and class that was sorely missing from this establishment. As did the gold chain on her neck and her black boots just visible beneath the hem of her long coat.
Alexa kept her approach languid, but focused. She didn’t rush, but she made no secret of where she was heading. On a whim, she chose approach the one on the left. With a flick, she produced a golden card she had liberated from a bloody hand earlier that night. She held it out and repeated the words she had been told through a broken jaw.
“Rat man sent me. I’m here to see Lime Ricky.”
The guard took the card, flicking the corner with his thumb like he was checking an ID. He glanced at the card, up at her, back down at the card, then over at the other guard. Finally, he pocketed the card and nodded. “You’re expected.”
Turning from her, he unlocked the door and gestured her inside. Stepping into the door, she found herself in a sterile white hallway, dimly lit with LEDs. The guard stepped behind her, locking the door after him. He set off down the hallway, Alexa following closely behind.
Their steps echoing loudly in stark hallway, they otherwise moved in silence. Alexa tried to scout any potential exits, but what few doors they passed were all shut tight. Stopping at one of these doors, the guard turned to regard her with flat expression.
“I’ll need to check you for weapons before letting you in.”
Grimacing slightly, Alexa considered protesting, but she needed to get into that room. Swallowing her pride, she raised her arms in acceptance. Pleasantly, the guard didn’t take the opportunity to get handsy. Instead quickly and professionally patting down her sides and extremities for weapons. Satisfied she was unarmed, he opened the door and let her in.
Alexa had been expecting an office, so walking into an indoor pool caught her off guard. Though pool might have been a generous term, as the entire thing was scarcely twenty-five feet in length. It barely even fit in the room, being nestled in the corner with two of the four sides directly meeting the wall with no lip.
Both the pool, the floor, and the walls were completely tiled, each colored a faded mint green that Alexa couldn’t imagine had ever been in style. A single, long LED light softly buzzed on the ceiling, being the only source of light. The pasty artificial light only serving to further drown out the color of the room. Her nose burned at the lingering stench of decades of chlorine. The entire room more closely resembled a bathroom than a private pool.
Several men sat on tile steps at the far end of the room. Three were cut from the same cloth as the guard that had just escorted her. Bulky and intimidating. The one at the center, whom the other three all hovered around, was very different. He sat hunched over, with only a towel around his waist. Shoulders that had likely once been broad and powerful, now seemed to weigh him down. An entire forest of white hairs sprung from his shoulders down along his back and chest. A loose gold chain hung equally low with aged jowls, matched by the gold rings that struggled to stay on his thin fingers. What white hair still remained on his head was in firm retreat across his scalp. Alexa thought that, in many ways, he was an encapsulation of the Golden Apple as a whole. Former glory left beaten and faded by the march of time.
Still, despite appearances, Vino Costanza was wired into the city. If anyone had the information Alexa was after, it was him.
There was only a single narrow walkway to reach the other side of the room. Alexa made her way across carefully, mindful not to slip on the wet tile. He watched her as she approached, beady little eyes squinting through the bags of skin that hung down his face.
“I suppose I don’t need to tell you why I’m here.” Alexa said.
He laughed at that, voice rough with the weight of a lifetime of cigarettes. “Certainly not. The mess you caused over at The Peacock has the entire strip buzzing. You have my thanks for that, by the way. Hearing the damage you did to Tony’s eyesore of a casino made my night. That bum could do with having his teeth kicked in from time to time.”
He scratched at his chin, eyeing her shrewdly. “As for why you’re here…yeah, I got a good guess. Ol’ Gunsmoke up and disappeared on ya’. Now you’re trying to find out where she went.”
“We were attacked last night. I woke up this morning-“
“Save the sob story, I already heard it.” He said, waving his hand. “You woke up in the nice suite Tony set up for you, three members of the Carone family mafia dead, and no sign of your boss or the god bars she received for her latest shipment of weapons.”
Vino clearly expected her to say something, but she held her tongue. She knew it was best to let men like this fill the silence. His expression fell into a flat, unimpressed look. “Look, doll, I commend you for your loyalty, but you can’t possibly be this stupid? Surely you know a set-up when you see one?”
Alexa arched her brow. “Of course we were set up. They knew exactly when and where to hit us when we were making the exchange.”
“Not what I’m talking about kid. From where I’m standing, you look like you got set up to take the fall while you boss made off with the goods.”
Hackles rising in shock, Alexa could barely keep from shouting. “Irene would never set me up!”
Vino raised his hands imploringly. “Look, I know its never easy admitting when you get played for a sucker, but that’s the nature of this kind of dirty business. We’ve all gotten our backs stabbed by someone we thought we could trust.” The guards around Vino nodded sadly in agreement. “If anything, you should be proud you made it, not running around like some beaten housewife trying to get her scumbag husband back.”
White hot fury nearly made Alexa come undone. Her entire body shuddered under the weight of her rage. Fists clenched tightly, she fought to pull her anger under control. Exploding into violence would solve nothing. She needed to be human for this conversation. Eyes closed, she took several deep breathes to center herself, all while repeating the same mantra in her head.
‘Irene wouldn’t abandon me. She wouldn’t.’
Successfully fighting back her anger, Alexa opened her eyes, but kept her expression neutral. “I didn’t come here for you conjecture. I came here for hard information.”
Vino stared at her pityingly for several seconds before shrugging. “Suit yourself, doll. But I’m afraid you wasted your time. I don’t have a clue where Gunsmoke disappeared to.”
Alexa’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t lie to me, Vino. I’ve had more than enough of liars tonight.”
“Listen, I get you’ve been getting the runaround tonight, but I swear I don’t know nothing.”
Staring at Vino, Alexa sighed internally. So much for being human. With forced casualness, she reached into her pocket and pulled out two cards. “Fine, then how about you swear on these?” She tossed them at Vino’s feet, the plastic clattering on the tile. Two ID cards, belonging to two of Vino’s lieutenants. Both were splattered with dried blood.
Vino slowly raised his head, all sense of geniality gone. “What did you do?”
Alexa simply shrugged. I realized your two boys were following me around my second trip into the Peacock. Figured we’d have a nice chat about why. So, I pulled them into a nice dark alley…and I made them talk. They said that you were the person to talk to about Irene. They were quite insistent on that, in fact. Oh, and I wouldn’t expect them to be coming into work tomorrow. Or ever.
Moving faster than she would have expected an old man to be capable of, Vino surged to his feet and backhanded her across the jaw. She turned her head with the blow, letting it glance off her. With deliberate slowness, she turned to face Vino again. The unconcerned look on her face only pushed him further into a towering rage.
“I tried to be nice, doll, but now I see I was wasting my time. I’m gonna have my boys here take you to the room where we deal with cheaters and they’ll go to work on you. Nice and slow. Then we’ll see-“
Alexa didn’t let him finish. She lashed out, planting the heel of her hand directly into his throat. He stumbled back, clutching at his neck and gasping for air. His three bodyguards moved to surround her. The one on her right died first.
Alexa’s right arm unraveled, like a cable of wires being peeled apart. Pink skin and bone gave way to pale white tentacles. The thick, wet appendages thrust out, diving into his torso and blowing out his back with the force of a shotgun. He gurgled in surprise, then fell limp.
Distracted by such violent display, the other two hesitated. Alexa made them pay dearly for it. Her left arm blurred, the barrier between her flesh and the outside world running together. Her arm became mist, a glittering cloud that glowed with a color that did not have a name. The men’s flesh and clothes melted as they came in contact with the mist. Skin and blood running rapidly across the tile floor like melted wax.
Pulling her tentacles free, Alexa turned to find Vino desperately crawling along the floor towards the exit. Clicking her tongue, she grabbed his ankle with her tentacles and hoisted him into the air. His windpipe was too crushed to scream, but his eyes were wild with fear. “Now then Vino, I believe you have some information for me.” He gasped several times, the sound reminding Alexa of a fish dying on shore.
“Nobody warned you about me? None of the various greedy business men I’ve had to intimidate into submission let you know it’s not a good idea to cross me? Many men have thought Irene was an easy target to take advantage of. I made sure they knew better. I suppose I should be flattered. It means my warnings stuck. Oh and don’t worry about your voice. You won’t need to talk for this.” Alexa pulled Vino in close, then the two of them tipped forward into the pool.
Beneath the water, Alexa let the barrier of her corporeal form fall. Darkness spread from her like ink. The entire pool soon turned black, covering her and the thrashing form of Vino. Soon, the water was black as pitch and utterly still, like a fallen piece of the night sky, bereft of stars.
The room was quiet and still, only sound to be heard being the gentle buzzing of the LED lights.
A head of black hair slowly began to rise from the dark water. It was followed by a neck, shoulders, arms, and a torso, until Alexa stood in the pool up to her waist. The water remained utterly still around her. She stared into nothing for several long moments, trying to process what she had learned.
Vino had known who had taken Irene, and Alexa now understood why he was so adamant that he did not. He didn’t know why Irene had been taken, or what they hoped to gain by doing so. But he knew who had done it, and that alone was enough to frighten him into silence.
Yerik Baladin. The world’s first vampire.
Alexa had felt many things since she woke to find Irene had been taken. Fury, concern, worry, despair. For the first time, she felt fear. Up until now, she had been confident that she could steamroll anyone who got in the way of finding Irene. Such confidence was no where to be found now that she was aware of how deep a shadow was looming over her.
Within her, the eldritch beings that inhabited her body debated on their next action. From her left arm; arrogance, disgust, and confidence. It saw no reason to be afraid of any being limited to a physical form, no matter how old or powerful. From her right arm; fear, reluctance, and doubt. Having a physical form, it was much more aware of its own vulnerability, and feared what crossing a creature like Yerik could cost. From her chest, she felt caution. It knew better than most the dark powers a vampire could command, and one so ancient was not an enemy one could make lightly.
While they warred with each other, their host took a deep breath. Alexa held the air inside of her, letting her lungs burn for a moment, before slowly exhaling. “Irene needs us.”
There was a pause at that, as they each considered her words. There was a flurry of emotions. Reluctance, anger, fear, frustration, despair. Then finally, acceptance. The corners of Alexa’s lips tugged up into a smile. “Thank you, everyone.”
Alexa pulled herself from the pool, utterly dry. She checked over herself, but didn’t find a hair out of place. She straightened her jacket and headed for the door. She briefly considered doing something with Vino’s bodyguards, but saw no point. No one would come looking for Vino unless asked. The bodies would remain there until the cleaning crew came in the morning, and Alexa would be long gone by then.
She headed for the back door, using Vino’s knowledge to dodge security cameras on her way. She stepped out into a small, private parking lot. The warm air of the desert night felt rejuvenating after the cramped air of the Golden Apple.
Vino’s vintage Cadillac sat waiting for her just outside the door. Alexa snatched the key from where it was hidden under the boot and quickly hopped inside. The car sprang to life when she turned the key, engine purring softly. For all his money issues, Vino had cared for this car deeply. She was in excellent shape. Pulling onto the road, Alexa revved the engine and shot off into the night.
“Let’s go get our girl back.”
Borrowed Time [Din Djarin x F!Reader]
ੈ♡˳‧₊*: • Chapter 2: The Way ✩࿐ ˚.✧
Summary: You are the princess of Mandalore, held hostage on your own planet by Moff Gideon and his army of Imperial troopers. Left with no choice, you send out a distress signal; a plea for protection— and who comes? None other than Din Djarin, a foundling of The Death Watch. He, by creed, is your sworn enemy. And where you have asked for his protection, he has been told by his mentor that he must marry you and gain the ability to restore Mandalore to its former glory.
Din pulled up the throttle and exited hyperspace, thankful that he was now in the perimeter of the hot and arid world of Mandalore. He'd never been to Mandalore before, only heard talks and folklore from the creed who raised him. He had thought that, since the war, Mandalore had become inhospitable. He'd thought a lot of things— but now, as it turned out, not everything was as it seemed.
When the Imperials took over Mandalore, it was said that they slaughtered the monarchy, ruthlessly, and showed no remorse. Whilst no body of yours was ever discovered, the absence in communication from you, the princess, was enough to assume that you had passed away alongside the other Mandalorians. Kriff— even a memorial had been held for you.
Din didn't know how to feel… he was being sent out to protect and marry a princess. Him, out of all people. Din sighed, leaning into the plushness of his leather pilot chair. "I don't understand kid," he hummed, shaking his head as his ship glided through the stars. He watched as he neared your planet, anxiety nesting in his tummy. "Why couldn't she assign Paz to marry her? Or one of the other Mandalorians."
Grogu, Din Djarin's little green bean of a son, garbled something incoherent, blinking his big black eyes innocently. "Hey! Speak for yourself!" Din chastised, wiggling his finger. Grogu giggled and Din rolled his eyes under his beskar helmet. He had no idea how this would possibly go, but as long as he had Grogu by his side, he knew he'd be okay.
As he approached Mandalore, he set the ship for landing. He apprehended some Imp infiltrating the comms system, requesting Din to state his business; although strangely, nothing of that nature occurred. He wasn't going to argue over it. It just meant he'd spent the last four hours making up excuses as to why he was going to Mandalore for no good reason.
"I could say we're going to Mandalore for…. a farmer's market. Do you think they have a farmer's market?" Din quizzed. Grogu spluttered in disagreement. "What about… sourberry picking?" Din shrugged helplessly and Grogu made another sound of dismay. "Well I don't see you having any bright ideas!"
The child reached over to a lever on the ship and groaned wantonly, his little claws flexing as he yearned to grab the ball his father would always let him play with. Din sighed in defeat, unable to resist his son, and unscrewed the silver ball from the lever. Grogu squealed excitedly and immediately used his special powers to lift the ball in the air. He watched it float around the cockpit with a curious glint in his eyes and Din let out another deep exhale.
"No doing the magic hand thing on Mandalore either, especially not in front of the princess. You heard what the Armorer said about you guys… the Jedi. If there was a war between the Jedi and the Mandalorians then the chances are she's not going to take a liking to you lifting up rocks at your own free will. Just please be on your best behaviour. Please?" Din asked. Grogu curled his large ears in understanding and Din smiled. "Thank you. Now, I'm going to make some bone broth before we land. Want some?"
Grogu grinned happily in affirmation, his two little teeth pointing over his lips and the corners of his round eyes crinkling with delight. Bone broth sounded yummy right now.
"Your highness, The Razor Crest has requested permission to land in docking bay 94 of the palace. Do you accept or deny?" An Imperial soldier asked you.
You blinked momentarily. Razor Crest? That ship was pre-Empire. "Yes, that's fine." you nodded casually, looking down at your hands until the guard had left your quarters.
You had to play it cool. Nobody knew that you had sent out a distress call and nobody could know— it had to remain a secret, because if an Imp found out, they'd have no choice but to tell Moff Gideon. And if Moff Gideon found out that you were communicating with surviving Mandalorians, he'd have you done for treason. You may have been the princess, but he was still technically the Manda'lor, and not only that, he was a high ranking Imperial officer. You couldn't mess this up.
You pulled yourself out of your bed and slid your feet into your fluffy slippers, grabbing a silk robe and draping it over your body. They were here already. You couldn't believe it. Your protection. You wondered many things; would they be human or another far off species? How many eyes would they have— and what colour? Blue? Green? Brown? Pink? Would they have hair, and if so, is it long or short, curly or straight? So many questions.
Din held Grogu tight in one arm as he left the ship, and let a nervous hand drop his thigh holster just in case he encountered any trouble. He was thankful to be able to dock within the palace walls because it meant he didn't have to walk for miles in order to reach you. The anxiety was beginning to settle in. Mandalore was important to all Mandalorians, and the monarchy was something they respected very much. Din couldn't even think about marrying you and what that meant, even though the beskar wedding rings that the Armorer had forged were already weighing him down... all he could fixate on was how he was even going to talk to you. You were literally royalty. You came from the Kryze bloodline who were some of the greatest Mandalorian leaders. He'd read about you and your people in storybooks. Leaving Nevarro was one thing; because Din had left his home planet many times to do bounties and Guild Work. But this time, he wasn't even sure when he'd return or if he'd return. Mandalore could be his new home. If he were to marry you, this could be his new life, and Din wasn't sure if he was ready for such a commitment.
As he approached the palace, a cold chill hung over his shoulders and Grogu scowled at the onlookers. The Imperials who guarded your home watched as Din walked through the gardens, their own fingers feeling very trigger happy. A Mandalorian on Mandalore? What were the chances? It was said that the Mandalorians had been obliterated; wiped out and scattered amongst the galaxy to fend for themselves. Of course it would be ridiculous to assume that their entire creed had become extinct, but no Imperial would have ever expected to see a Mandalorian, suited up in full beskar armour, back on Mandalore. Especially since the princess had been announced dead by Moff Gideon after the great take-over. Immediately, the Imperial guards knew that something wasn't right. A Mandalorian had no reason to be on Mandalore— not after everything that had happened to their people.
As Din approached the gates, he couldn't help but feel the glares of his enemies grow colder, and their stares burned into his sheathed body. Grogu made a questioning noise and Din shushed him.
"I don't know…" Din mumbled, not wanting to cause too much fuss or bring too much attention to him and his son.
The point was; the princess had accepted the Mandalorian's request to land in the palace docking bay. The princess was apprehending his arrival. She knew about this.
The two troopers who manned the entrance of the palace did open the doors to Din, although begrudgingly. The strange feeling that surrounded the duo was not lost on Din. He wondered if it was in fact a trap. Maybe the plea the Armorer had received was an old holo recording of your voice that the Imperials had utilized to get a Mandalorian sent out. Either the Imperials were expecting Din, or they weren't expecting him at all. But Din had just assumed the princess had at least made it safe for him to come.
The lobby of the palace was enormous. Beautiful marble floor that must have been centuries old. Ornaments and flower arrangements stood erect on every corner and tall, gold pillars held the building together. Din wondered where he'd find you, but his pondering was cut short when he heard your delicate footsteps clicking against the floor. He turned around, his grip on his son tightening in anticipation, but the moment his eyes met yours, his whole body deflated.
There you were; the Princess of Mandalore.
Din couldn't find words. His whole body involuntarily tensed up as his gaze raked your body. It was perfect; you were shaped like a goddess, or perhaps one of the angels from the moon of Iego. Your hair was the most beautiful colour and Din admired the way it shone under the amber candlelight. Your eyes were doe-like and sparkling just like the stars, and your lips were simply the perfect plumpless.
But your heart was struck with fear when you saw the Mandalorian; fully dressed in beskar armour and a helmet. Not a single inch of skin was on sight, and your vision immediately turned red. There was only one Mandalorian tribe who never took off their helmet; and it was the tribe who was responsible for the death of your mother. It couldn't be…
Grogu's sweet little voice interrupted the silence, his garbles echoing throughout the extensively sized yet empty room.
Your lips curled into a smile as you approached the child, extending your arms and taking him out of Din's grip. "Hello friend." you cooed, and the little green bean giggled under your touch.
"He likes you," Din said, his voice modulated from under the helmet. "He doesn't like many people."
You ignored Din's comment, too busy fussing over the child. Grogu laughed and squeaked as you caressed his floppy ears. "Grogu, hm? You're a cutie."
Din furrowed his eyebrows together, perplexed. He wasn't the best at understanding Grogu, but how did you know his name already? Din hadn't told you.
"Oh, you like it?" You asked curiously, taking your earring out of your ear and placing it in Grogu's claw. "It's a ruby."
Wait— you were talking to him. You could understand him. The only person who could fluently communicate with Grogu was Ahsoka Tano, and that was because she was force sensitive. Of course Din could understand menial gestures and phrases, but here you were, the princess of Mandalore, having a full conversation with the little green bean. For a brief second, Din considered if you had any force-like abilities similar to what Grogu and Ahsoka had. But the thought passed fleetingly. There was no way a Mandalorian could have force powers. Not after the war between Mandalore and the Jedi sorcerers.
"His name is Din Djarin… I see." you nodded knowingly at Grogu before glancing up at the Mandalorian.
"Uh- yeah, that's me," Din said awkwardly, taking a step closer to you. "It's an honour to meet you, your highness. I must admit, I wasn't expecting to visit Mandalore tonight. Or ever- really." Din rambled, picking at his mustard coloured gloves.
"Do they still… do they still think I'm dead?" you asked uncertainly. Din nodded and you swallowed. The Imperials had really done a good job of covering up your existence then. You glanced back down at Grogu, and back up at the Mandalorian. "You walked through the palace gardens… dressed like that?" you asked him with a frown.
Din looked down at his armour in bewilderment— your comment suggesting that there was something wrong with what he was wearing. "Uh- yes?"
Your eyes went comically wide and you thrusted the child back into Din's chest. "Are you out of your mind?" you gasped, slapping your hands over your mouth in distress.
Din placed a hand on his hip. "Excuse me?"
"Take off your helmet." you demanded, your eyes stone cold.
"What? No!" Din gasped, taken aback. "Why aren't you wearing your helmet?"
You blinked. "Why would I? I'm not in battle!" you argued, raising your voice slightly. "Take off your helmet, that is an order from your Manda'lor."
"How could you ask me to do such a thing?" Din asked defensively, his fingers curling around his blaster pistol. "Are you really the Manda'lor— or are you an imposter? A true Mandalorian wouldn't ask me to remove my helmet."
No. You weren't the Manda'lor, you didn't have the darksaber anymore. But Din didn't need to know that.
"Are you… are you a Child of the Watch?" you whispered, feeling genuine fear wash over you.
"What?"
"What is your tribe's mantra?" you beckoned further, your eyes desperately trying to search for his through the visor of his helmet.
"Our secrecy is our survival. Our survival is our strength. This is the way." Din informed you.
You gulped and looked away. He was Death Watch. His people were the ones who teamed with Darth Maul and attacked Mandalore. They were the ones who killed your mother, and now, for the very first time, a Death Watch Mandalorian stood right before you.
You had sworn that, on the occasion you met a Child of the Watch, they wouldn't live to see the dawn of a new day. But this man… this man was a father. And killing him would orphan a child, just like you were orphaned as a young girl. You could never do that. You were not a fighter.
"I think you should go." you whispered, hating the way the words left your lips. You sounded weak.
You were struggling to hold it together. You didn't realise how much it would hurt, seeing a Child of the Watch. You didn't realise how it would bring to life a million memories of your beautiful mother.
"What? I just got here."
"I am sorry for bringing you out here, and I'm even more sorry for asking you to remove your helmet. But you need to go." You said more sternly. Din didn't move. "Go!" you shouted, and Grogu flinched slightly.
"No." Din insisted.
The tears were spilling from your eyes now, and there was nothing you could do to stop them. You shuffled backwards until your ankles hit the first step of the grand staircase. You sunk down onto the steps and held your head in your hands, sobbing. You missed your mother so much; it was like every bone in your body ached for her touch. You missed the way she'd comfort you and hold you and whisper the Songs of Eon's Past to lull you to sleep. She was the greatest of leaders— a pacifist who would never hurt a single soul. She renounced all wars, even at the cost of her own life. She wouldn't want you to hurt Din. All these years you told yourself you'd kill the Children of the Watch for vengeance. But how could you now?
Hesitantly, Din placed Grogu on the ground, and padded towards you. He sat down next to you and wrapped a big arm around your body, pulling you into his beskar clad chest and hugging you. It was the first time in over a decade you'd had the pleasure of feeling human touch. You sunk into him and whimpered, letting your tears fall and dampen the black material under his chest plate. Din said nothing, only shushed you and rubbed comforting circles into your back.
He had no idea what caused the onset of your tears, but he knew better than to ask. There was no shame in crying. None at all. All Din knew was that he was not going to leave you. Not now, not ever. He was going to make you his wife.
Tales of Ealden Cynedom: 24. The Small Apothocary (4/5)
Tale 43:The Small Apothecary (chapter 4 - The Plum Trees 4/5 ) part 8. Stories of Dreams
The next day, Qilin sleep; unable to adjust to the time-zone change. He reluctantly got up, to start his work. Firstly, he asked various people what elixirs they might need. Qilin knew the local doctor required remedies to naga venom, flu symptoms, and bone repair; And others wanted light viles and water clensing; Things the traditional village lacked. So, next it was time to gather. Even if no recipe called for it, Qilin looked for specialties. Some mid-day golden dew, from the ruffled Dok Cahmpa was right there; beaming light the light of dawn. Good for pain, and only found in Doi Veng. These were the yellow flowers he dreamed of. But for the final request, he was comissioned sugar plum jam for sleep.
Qilin walked to the ever blossoming orchard; Various cherry, plum, and orange fruit fey, were planted neatly together; A fluffy arching crown of plush purple and pink. They sweetly whispered above a pool of lucky carp. But the enchanted fish no gave scales of fortune; they rejected every coin. Even the frosted plums forbid Qilin from having a single pome. With a despondent sigh, and empty basket, Qilin realized he needed a witch. For his recipes, the fey had to consent to being picked. Their gifts have different properties if taken without asking. Qilin preferred asking. He considered it violent, to steal pieces of fey.
Having lost, Qilin’s left the orchard in search of Aurum. It was his lucky day; He saw golden silks glow from the corner of his eye. Aurum was riding his familiar off the butte top. Qilin gasped, and ran after him. He had completely forgotten Aurum was showing him the water temple today.
The walk was silent between Qilin and Aurum. Qilin’s thoughts were busied by finally being able to perform traditions from his people. Also, the consuming frustration at current barriers to his craft. Meanwhile, Aurum shuddered at the thought of his neglectful mother being there; He was equally irational in the moment. Ironically, Aurum’s mother came to Doi Veng for the same reason as Qilin. However, money had corrupted her, and she succumb to depression while destroying Doi Veng. She was the very reason they fey acted so cold. For this reason, she now tended the temple and retired from magic.
At the temple, the walls crumbled as nature grew through them. But inside, there was a hall with carved jade walls. There was a set of bells, large gong, and trough of chalk, before a powdery wood floor. Light shone through the gaps of the pillars, and holes above the red beams. Pixies were sleeping about the ledges, that wafted of rose and sandalwood. Their honey would be perfect for making hex incense. Qilin was overwhelmed as he looked above, and walked closer to the chalk.
“How does this work?” Qilin inquired. He bumped into Aurm who was kneeling. Qilin decided to join him. The sound of a steam silently echoed, and Qilin felt himself merge with the moment. His previous thoughts now smothered. His face bright. Then, Aurum’s deep breaths ceased. He had never met someone of the Eastlands, who didn’t know how to give gratitude.
“Well?” Qilin smiled.
“Um, you grab the chalk in your palms, then slam your hands while bowing, and gently interlace your fingers behind your neck. Then reflect on what satisfies your being in that moment,” Aurum said, his head tilted. “Then meditate on the phrase ‘I am greatful for...” He demonstrated. The thud of the bow, and puff of chalk, nearly made Qilin second guess the ritual. He performed it perfectly, powdering white into his black hair. Soon, a singing bowl rang through the room. They sat up as one, in a state of serenity.
“What are you grateful for, Lin?” Aurum grinned. His own father would always ask the same. You can tell a lot about a person from what they appriciate.
“Having the opportunity to live here with my family. You?” Qilin smirked. Aurum stalled, and looked into the brushed bell brass before him.
“To see the colour yellow.” He said calmly. He gently got up, and left to the courtyard. Qilin tip-toes in suit. They sat in the shade of the clensing gingko, growing into the a wall. Crossed legs, well poised, silent, and resting.
The novelty of meditation, wore off quickly for Qilin. His mind wondered back to the rejection of the plums. He fidgeted with the urge to ask Aurum for aid, while unsure if disturbing meditation was allowed. He had meditated little in his life, aside from breathing exercises in school programs. Despite reading the teachings within the poetry of water. Qilin opened his eyes, and turned to Aurum. Tears were streaming down Aurum’s face, as his steady breath trembled. It came from the chest, no matter how hard he tried to use his stomach.
“Why are you crying?” Qilin whispered.
“It does not matter why I am sad. I get sad sometimes, then it goes away. I concentrate only on emptiness.” Aurum sighed, melting into his posture.
“Then how do you process emptiness? How do you let go?”
“Maybe I cry, because I am sad that I have let go. Purhaps right now, it is time to greave.” Aurum said, opening his eyes. His mother was adjacent, and smiling slightly. She wore orchid, with shimmering lotus trim.
“I’m bad at letting go.” Qilin shrugged. “Like, I can’t let go of those stupid sugar plums. This place was supposed to be....perfect.” He petered out. Aurum nodded, having already assumed as much. Aurum’s mother readjusted.
“I’m going now. Those are great thoughts to practice sitting with, Lin. Thoughts that when overcome, make you one with nothingness. Letting go, requires wisdom of what we cannot control. The world will not end because the fey are hesitant, and we feel strongly.” Aurum said, walking away. He seldom took his own medicine, despite his effort. To Qilin, those words made him go red from frustration.
Aurum didn’t fully embrace a single thing he touted most days. He had only been practising for a few years. It can take a lifetime to act on such beliefs. Aurum may need two lifetimes; He had a lot of issues: Feeling incompetent for being coddled, traumatized for being imprisoned, and hard feelings towards his parents for their mistakes. He knew being in the moment would prevent looking back, and alternatively the now is not always pleasant. Like Qilin, Aurum also struggled to sustain his meditation. Aurum radiated a dark presence as he rode back to the village. Like he would block out the sun for anything that dared to near him. That stupid boy was summoning Aurum’s pain with all those questions. Testing his ability to remain present. The flaw of the ways of water, is that human hearts are responsive, thus creating desire and hate. People seek opposites, and fulfillment. They are not like fey. The flow of all things, is inconsistent with humanity’s stubbornness.
Aurum spent three hours coaxing the trees to give up a few plums to help Qilin.
“I don’t believe he is a greedy wizard. He is not from my family. I think he is like our village’s people. He wants simplicity, and your charity, to aid us all. What If I ask you for plums? As your mage who adores you, am I worthy? Am I able to receive your gifts to help the forest?”
“We will trust you for now, mage. But if this boy misuses our gifts, we will gladly have the more mobile fey scare him off.” The orchard threatened. It was so unlike them. Fey catastrophizing? Often, the childlike neutral nature of fey, made them the best teachers of embracing each moment’s wonder and joy. But like people, they know fear and desire. Nothing is immune. Aurum was only able to procure half the ingredients Qilin needed.
“Can you give him more? I want to sleep.” A familiar voice called into the trees. Kugu was feeding rice cakes to the lucky carp, while listlessly humming a lullaby to endear them. She wore her same printed pastel clothes. The trees dropped more flowers and fruit. Aurum’s gaze lingered on Kugu’s forlorn face. He snapped out of it when she thanked them.
Aurum walked over to crouch next to Kugu; The garden was empty in the afternoon. All they heard was birds and fey whipers.
“Thanks.” Aurum smiled.
“I just want a regular sleep cycle.”
“No, I mean for going outside so we can smile with you. You even helped Qilin,” Aurum said, looking at his reflection in the pool. “Honestly I’m sick of only seeing you stare at the wall, each time I sneak in to rid the goblins from your yard.”
“I don’t need pity.” Kugu scoffed.
“Maybe you need tea? I’ve heard good things about tea. I’d love to make some for you some time.” Aurum tensed. Kugu laughed a little. The carp gave them scales.
“Maybe after you give that apothecary his ingredients, and my father overcomes his worry. He should go to the temple too,” Kugu growled. “I like to think it’s working for me. I hope magic can cure me. I should’ve never studied in the city.”
“Should is a toxic word. Like always and never. Best advice my nanny ever gave me.” Aurum said, examining the orange scales. He got up to leave, and waved goodbye. Kugu tried to smile back. Even lost in his glow, she couldn’t do it quite yet.
Qilin nearly feinted at the basket of goods; He could start brewing this very night. There was an encouraging note from his mother. Qilin read it while setting up. The plum jam needed to be brewed under a full moon, all night; Qilin would need to multitask to stay awake. As the sun set, he got to work cutting and grinding. Sugar plum, frosted orange peel, and starlit sugar cane. He had brewing flasks, vials of every material, and all the tools and stoves he needed; Including a pot to make smoked fish rice, as he missed dinner.
After a night’s work, the jam had turned white. To test, he put a spoonful on a plate; It froze the entire table. The plums hadn’t fully consented to sharing their gifts. The elixir could be used in small does to cool food or make ice, so it wasn’t a full loss. But Qilin was deeply disappointed. Not only did he fail brewing for the first time in a year, but the fey didn’t like him. As dawn came, Qilin staggered back to the temple, and feel asleep while meditating until midday; When he could make the golden dew. He was given a singing bowl for the very task. If had a fierly lusture from the dragon forged bell brass. However, Qilin’s confidence was shattered. He lost his posture. Having awoken, his breathing was uneven, but still deep. Like a gasping fish.
“Why are you crying?” Kugu asked. Silence.
“Well, I cry for failing to get a degree, and believing for a moment such things mattered when places like this exist.” She continued. Qilin looked up to see her undone hair and calm face. She wore a silver satin sabok skirt, that glimmered like the moon. She looked nice today. Their eyes met. Qilin’s tears soaked his dirty emerald wrapped pants and sash; He wore only the pants of his dirty wizarding robes.
“You don’t have to share.” Kugu shrugged.
“I cry, because today my mind reminds me I can fail.” Qilin admitted.
“The plums hate everyone. You’re not special,” Kugu snorted. “Well, they like me I guess; Enough to give the other half of your ingredients when I requested your potion.”
“Thanks. Now tell me your secrets. The fey here are resistant to friendship.” Qilin grined.
“I would have ascended to the next spiritual plane, if I knew the ways of fey.” Kugu rolled her eyes.
“Well, me and Aurum know the ways of fey, and I assure you we’re both currently incompetent.”
“He offered to let me watch him burn himself on a stove; To make tea to warm me. Something about it having special properties.”
“Probably something my mom said.”
“I think I said yes, even though I have trouble bonding with people. But with that workaholic, whose smile and misguided mind; He makes me weak. It feels like he’s always there for me. But I can’t get myself to-”
“bonding and getting attention? Just crawl into his window uninvited! I got a week’s detention for that, and I wasn’t even the one naked. The guy didn’t return my textbook, and I had a test the next day. You’ll never forget a moment like that. That’s the secret to bonding with someone.” Quilin suggested. Kugu finally managed a smile.
Previous Part || Shut In Masterlist
Hours were spent on the road in thick silence.
The both of you had been driving around for a while now. You were a considerable distance away from the mansion and Pierce, but you didn’t dare to stop.
Initially you had only put the pedal to the metal without solid plan. Get the fuck away from there was the only objective you cared about.
Hours later a signboard registered in your frantic thoughts. Familiarity struck a chord, and all of a sudden you had a vague idea of where you could go. You were unsure if it still existed, but it was a risk you were willing to take.
Darkness still coloured the sky, but the roads were deserted. No cameras along the highway was a welcomed feature. You eased your foot off the accelerator, carefully assessing the path you were taking for your exit.
You saw a small clearing near the highway, taking a deep breath before pulling the car into a sharp turn off the road and into the woods.
“Where are you going?” your companion jolted up when the car swerved abruptly.
You didn’t answer; just kept your eyes peeled for the structure. You didn’t have a backup plan if this didn’t go right.
It took much longer than you anticipated before you found it, pulling the car to a stop. You were deeper into the woods than you would have liked.
You stuck your head out of the window to confirm you were at the right place. It looked like you were.
“Where the hell are we?”
“My summer vacation house,” you murmured, unbuckling your seatbelt. You stepped out of the car to assess the damage. .
Another door opening and closing told you that he had gotten out of the car as well. However, he trudged ahead, leaving you behind.
The car was pretty beaten up. The metal gates hadn’t done it any favours.The question was whether it would still work if you needed it to.
Probably would, but not for too long.
You looked to the side to see where he went. He was standing in front of the house, arms crossed over his chest as he ran his eyes all over the building.
You trekked past him, walking up the two steps to the door. Pulling at what looked like a doorbell in any other scenario, you tugged off the outer shell to reveal a small scanner underneath.
You pressed your thumb to it, tapping your foot impatiently as it gave a beep of approval. The door gave a soft click. You let out a breath you didn’t realise you were holding, twisting the handle to let yourself in.
“You’re kidding right?” he asked incredulously from a distance behind you.
“Hey, man, stay outside if you want. Suit yourself.” You were sure he could fashion a bed out of leaves and twigs if he was that desperate.
Fumbling for the light switch, you sigh in relief when the room is illuminated.
“Whose safehouse is this?”
“Ransone’s.” You shrugged nonchalantly, moving ahead to inspect the place.
“I have every single one of his safehouses committed to memory.” His voice was becoming fainter as he planted his feet firmly at the doorway, refusing to move. “This ain’t one of them.”
“He’s sneaky. Once watched the next episode of Desperate Housewives without telling me.” The house wasn’t as dusty as you thought it would be, clearly being maintained once in a while although not regularly. “Broke my whole heart, he did.”
“Whose house is this?” he asked once again, tone hard as steel.
“Best that you don’t ask questions, buddy.” You looked at him wearily, a slo warning in itself, ending the conversation there. “Or else you’re welcome to leave.”
The entrance opened directly into what you assumed was the living room, or a sorry excuse for one. It had a couch facing an old cable television set, mounted on a small cupboard.
In the same space was the kitchen, with a microwave, a sink, and shelves lining the wall. A small mini fridge sat atop the counter.  There was a dining table with six chairs for a family, almost like a sick joke. You found yourself letting out a short exhale at it, moving onto the next room.
It was bare except for a shelf pressed against a well. Opening it, you found yourself looking at multitudes of what looked like burner phones, microphones, cameras, some as small as a button. Regular security cameras and monitors to go with it, trackers, anything you needed was available in those four drawers.
You pocketed a burner cell to use for later, moving to the room on the opposite side of the hall.
However, unlike the rest of the rooms you had seen so far, this one was empty. Not even a shelf decorating it.
The next door you opened was a bathroom, the final being a bedroom with one bed in the centre pushed up against the wall. A wardrobe in the corner contained numerous t-shirts of black and grey of every size, tactical pants and other necessary items of clothing.
You eyed the last door at the end of the hall before finally deciding to pursue it.
It opened to the patio in the back, two steps leading down from the house into the wooded area. Pillars held up the corners of the roof. It all looked picturesque, meant to blend in as a normal house.
You stood there for a second, taking in the silence around you. Nothing could be heard for miles, so if something were to happen-
You shook your head, forcing your imagination to stop running wild. You shut the door behind you, steadily making your way back to where the guy was.
It appeared that he had caved. He had moved from the doorway, instead taking a seat on one of the dining chairs. He was observing you, eyes keen as you took a seat opposite to him.
Dropping the burner phone on the table, you looked at him expectantly. Silence ensued until it dawned on him what you were implying.
“I’m not calling him,” the guy said, leaning on his palm. Coward.
“Fine.” You pulled it back, snapping it open to dial the number.
You let it ring all the way until the very last second.
“Hello?” the low voice resonated from the other end.
“Ransone.” You rolled your eyes at his tone, somehow letting your exhaustion tear down any kind of filter you usually had while in conversation with him.
“Y/N?” His voice jumped two octaves higher to his usual pitch, dropping the facade immediately.
“Did you set us up?” You ignored the small glance you got from the guy at your name.
“What?”
“Did you set us up?” you repeated brazenly.
“What?”
“Oh, cut the shit Ransone, was this a trap?” The guy next to you exploded impatiently.
“Wilson?” Great. A name to the face.
“Answer the fuckin’ question, Vincent.” The mention of Ranone’s first name had you surprised. No one dared to call him that.
“No, Sam,” came his response almost mockingly. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Sam Wilson. It sounded familiar. You’d heard it tossed around a few times at the organisation.
“Why were both of us on the same assignment?”
“I told you, I wasn’t sure if Wilson was going to show up.” You could hear his chair faintly creak in the background. “This was his mission first.”
“The hell is that supposed to mean?” you interjected. Faint memories of a passing comment he made during your briefing were beginning to surface.
“It means,” Ransone emphasised. “I called him first. He was being a bit… difficult. So I sent you as a backup.”
You looked at Sam. He dismissed you with a wave of his hand, as if to say to ignore what he was saying.
“And you didn’t think it was important to tell me that you were sending someone else?” If Ransone had told you, he should have mentioned it to him too.
“Oh, grow up.” Ransone sounded irritated, a tone that he seemed to reserve for Sam specifically. “You’re not children anymore. You can handle a few miscommunications.”
“Bullshit. You and I both know this isn’t an accident,” Sam retorted, dangerously good at not giving a shit.
“You better watch yourself, agent.” Ransone snarled. “I don’t like being questioned.”
“Like I give a shit about what you like or not. We were outnumbered 8 to 2. You tellin’ me you had nothing to do with this? That the stars just aligned to royally fuck with us?”
“Yes, I waited until Mercury was in retrograde to plan this hit,” he drawled sarcastically. “Don’t you for a second forget what you owe me, Wilson. You’d be stupid to believe I’d let it go so easily by having you killed.”
His voice was ice by the end. Sam’s eyebrow furrowed as he leaned back, crossing his arm over his chest.
“Then what about me?”
“Y/N,” he sighed, instantly sounding softer. “I didn’t think he would show. That’s it.”
“You’ve never been unsure of anything.”
“Which is why I sent you in. Pierce had to die one way or the other. Don’t care how.” It wasn’t what you were talking about, but it brought up something else.
You looked at Sam. Should you tell him that Pierce was dead before you got there?
You decided against it, not knowing what his reaction would be and too tired to gauge it over the phone. If someone else had gotten to Pierce before you, it meant that Ransone didn’t get a chance to deliver a dramatic end to his life, which would tick him off endlessly.
“How do I know you’re telling the truth?” Sam broke the momentary pause.
“You don’t.” He paused. “Distrusting me is the wisest thing you could do.”
You scoffed at his stupid Game of Thrones quote. How he was this obnoxious at a time like this was beyond comprehension.
“Give me your location.” He couldn’t sound less interested, like a parent forced to pick up their child. “I’ll send someone to come pick you up.”
Sam’s finger tapped at the table, drawing your attention to him.
He slowly shook his head, mentioning to his ear then drawing his finger in a circle indicating his surroundings.
Disclosing confidential information over the phone wasn’t the wisest idea. You had no idea if anyone was tapping into Ransone’s calls, listening for sensitive information. For all you knew that’s how they got to the mansion before you.
“Forget it. We’ll figure it out,” you told Ransone, eyes still locked on Sam.
“All right, stay low for a while. Keep me updated.”
You cut the call without another word, removing the battery and tossing the phone onto the table.
“What now?”
Neither of you said anything for a while. The silence rested uncomfortably between you as you stewed over what to bring up.
“Did you kill Pierce?”
“Christ, we still on this?” he scoffed.
“It’s a yes or no question.”
“No,” he stared at you. “I didn’t.”
“Did Ransone send you to spy on me?” It wouldn’t be the first time it had happened, although you thought he had moved past the need for that years ago.
“No, I was there for a mission.”
“You got any proof?”
He rolled his eyes. “Scout’s honour.”
He lifted his hand up in a mock-salute. A wince flashed across his face; barely, but enough for you to catch it. His arm dropped back down again.
You examined him silently, searching for any hint of a lie or bluff. You found nothing, only an adamant set of eyes staring right back at you.
Your chair creaked as you pushed yourself away from the table. You could feel his gaze following you as you walked down the hall to the bathroom. Shuffling through the shelves for something you were sure was there, you soon stepped back out.
You had no idea why you were doing this. You didn’t even know the guy.
He had his sleeve pulled up to his shoulder, examining the wound from the bullet graze. Dried blood streaked his forearm, partially covering his tattoo.
You tossed the first aid kit onto the table, watching it slide across to where he was sitting. Sam glanced at the box, then up at you.
You just turned around silently, walking back down the hall and towards the bedroom, shutting the door behind you.
__________
Sleep didn’t come that night, and predictably so.
Whether it was the survival instinct guarding you from the stranger in the house, the adrenaline from the mission or even the anxiety of not knowing what exactly was going on, you were sure that you didn’t catch even a bit of shut eye.
Morning came around after what seemed like days rather than hours. You still stayed in bed well past the sunrise, pulling at the hem of your pillow. Your knife was still strapped to your thigh and your gun found a place on the nightstand, just in case.
When you heard the opening and shut of cabinets down the hall, you finally pulled yourself up, stretching to get rid of the weariness in your muscles. You decided against the gun but left the knife strapped to your thigh as you shifted off the bed.
You paused at the doorway, hand on the knob. Shoving aside your hesitation, you opened the door quietly. You could handle it, easily.
Walking towards the kitchen, the volume of his ruffling and filing through the kitchen only became louder. You stopped at the entrance, watching as Sam slammed a cabinet door shut.
“C’mon man,” he groaned before turning around to lean his body weight against the counter. There was a small bump under the sleeve of his arm, different from the curve of his muscle. You assumed he had bandaged the bullet graze the night before.
He was still wearing the same thing as yesterday. Dust was slightly settled on his shirt and one knee of his pants was ripped slightly.
“Mornin’.” You quickly looked back up at him, not realising when he had seen you. “Get any sleep last night?”
You wordlessly shook your head and he shrugged in understanding.
“Did you?”
“Oh yeah. Out like a light.” He pushed himself off the counter.
“Really?” You watched as he pulled out a chair for himself, taking a place at the dining table, same place he was sitting the night before.
“Sounded like the reasonable thing to do.” He had an unnatural amount of faith in the fact that you wouldn’t murder him. Although you couldn’t judge if he was simply putting on a show, having stayed awake just as you had.
“I'm stuck in a safehouse with a stranger, forgive me for being a little careful,” you muttered defensively, crossing your arms over your chest.
“Hey, never said you were wrong.” He lifted his hands up. “But just to make sure; are you going to kill me?”
Your eyebrows furrowed. “No?”
“And I’m not going to kill you. I’d say that’s enough reassurance to get at least a nap in.”
“Give me one good reason to believe you.”
“If you killed me, Ransone would blow the roof of this place with you still in it. I’m one of the best he’s got.”
“Bullshit.” You scoffed, walking around the table to go see what you could find to eat. Ransone wouldn’t do that for anyone, and he knew that.
He didn’t bother responding but you could sense him tracking your movement.
The first cabinet you opened consisted purely of jars of peanut butter, stacked together neatly. The one beside it had jelly arranged in a similar fashion, jar to jar and taking up the entire space. Adjacent cupboard had loaves of bread, probably the most you’d seen together in a house ever.
The next cupboard was... empty.
“You have got to be fuckin’ with me,” you cursed under your breath. “Is there nothing else here?”
Save for a few plates and cutlery, every other shelf was empty. Your frustration only grew with each drawer you opened and shut, finding nothing but the same three components over and over again.
“There’s some soup on the top right, behind the bread.” His voice came from behind you. You checked where he mentioned, finding multiple cans of tomato soup. “I hope PB&J is your favourite, ‘cause that’s really all we got. I checked twice.”
“We won’t be here long anyway. It’s fine.” You walked a few steps towards where the TV was, sitting atop a small cupboard. If you weren’t getting gourmet meals, hopefully it would be compensated with some entertainment.
Rummaging through it didn’t prove to be a major hassle since there were only three DVDs; Die Hard, Notting Hill and Megamind. Beside it sat two books, American Gods, and Pride and Prejudice. That’s all.
“Really made sure to cover all demographics with those movies. There’s only one local news channel, everything else is static,” Sam informed you, unmoving from his position. You sighed, tossing the DVDs back and shutting the door.
“There’s a room over there with some basic shit. Burners, mics, cameras. Clothes are in the bedroom drawer. Should probably take a shower while you’re at it, I can smell you from a mile away and it’s giving me a migraine.” You pushed yourself off the ground, pointing towards the rooms as you walked down the hall. “Backyard’s all heavily wooded. If we try hard enough, I’m sure there are a few trap doors or crawl spaces or whatever around here.”
You could hear him follow you as you gave him the tour of a place you were sure he already had examined thoroughly before you greeted him this morning.
Pushing open the door to the suspiciously empty room, you stepped to the side, allowing him to observe. The both of you had the same thought process as you split up, sticking close to the walls, running your fingers across the plaster to look for any major differences.
“Got it,” he called out. You spun on your heel to face where he was standing. A small chunk of the wall was missing, a small button in the centre of the cavity he had created.
Pressing it lightly, the mechanical sound of sliding doors filled the air as the entire side of the room gave way to shelves upon shelves of weapons. Guns, knives, ammunition, bulletproof vests; enough material to last you years.
The doors slid shut when you pressed the button again, not until you had a mental note of what was available in case you found yourself in a situation where you required them.
“That about covers it. Don’t think we’ll be here long so just think of it as your three day long staycation.”
“I’ve had a better time at funerals than I’ll ever have in this shithole.”
________
“What do you mean they escaped?” Their voice was booming, dripping with slow rising anger. “Someone explain to me how the fuck that’s possible.”
“They took the car and left.”
“They took the car and left,” they said mockingly in a high pitch. “I know that, you fucking imbecile. I’m asking how they were alive long enough to do it?”
“They teamed up. Took out nearly everyone,” the agent was monotone. His arm was in a sling and his partner stood beside him, thick bandages around his midsection.
“They shouldn’t have been there together. They shouldn’t have been sent together.”
No one said a word, not even daring to breathe loudly.
“This wasn’t supposed to fucking happen. We killed Pierce. Everything was perfect,” their voice dropped as they spat out the last word. “So then how did this fucking happen?”
“Boss, we’ll-”
“I want them dead.” They interrupted, casting silence in the room. “I don’t care how you fucking do it. I want you to find them and rip them to shreds. Both of them.”
“Yes, boss.”
“And if you even fucking think of coming back without a proper update-” they brought their hand down harshly on the table. “-I’ll make you wish you were never born.”
The agents just nodded, faces pale as they shuffled out of the room silently.
“Fucking idiots.” They nursed their forehead on their palm, calming the nerve that was menacingly visible on their temple. “This wasn’t supposed to happen.”
Reality Check - Chapter 7
4400 words later, here we are!
Summary: Memories.
Notes: This is just to give you an idea on the reader’s past!  Obviously, it doesn’t include every single moment Loki and the Reader have spent together.  I’d have a lot to write.  But this gives you an idea of how it all started. They’re so cute together!  I’ll include more about their story later on, I think, but for now... Here’s the origin.
Masterlist
“Who are you? And why does the Allfather want you here of all places?” Loki, one of the princes, asked, watching you browse the library. You had just come into the palace for the first time a week ago. The library was one of the many rooms you hadn’t explored yet.
“He noticed that Frigga and I have been meeting constantly, researching together, and he wanted to know what I knew about it. He wanted to learn more.”
“Learn more? Doesn’t he know everything?” He sat down, continuing to watch you gaze at the books.
“Not everything,” A sly smile was on your lips. “There are many things he doesn’t know of yet. Worlds that he has yet to explore and magic he’s yet to seen or experience. Frigga and I are hoping to introduce him to this new knowledge. Once we figure it out too, of course.” You pulled out one book, its cover worn and torn from old age. You sat down next to Loki, flipping through the pages.
“Interesting. You never told me your name though. How do you know my mother so personally that you’re on a first-name basis with her?” He asked.
You froze momentarily, trying to come up with an answer. “Let’s just say she’s a close friend of mine. We met a while ago and that’s about the extent of all that I can say right now. It’s a secret,” You placed a finger on your lips, winking at him. “The name’s Y/N, by the way. You’re Loki, right?”
“Yes, that’s my name. How did you know? You don’t look like anyone else here given your,” He looked down at your outfit, “Clothing of choice.”
“Your mother talks about you a lot. She cares about you very much and I’ve heard a lot. She thinks that I don’t listen to her but she’s told me many stories about you and your brother.”
“Hopefully nothing too humiliating, I’ll assume,” He said, smiling sheepishly.
“Nothing of the sorts, I promise you.”
~
“Do you just hang out here every day? Don’t you have princely duties to do or something?” You teased him, walking into the library. It seemed like you ran into him every time you went for a book in the room.
“Not every day, but most of the time to avoid my brother,” He shrugged. “No one ever notices when I’m gone anyway,” He muttered under his breath. He began following you down the aisles of books.
“Clearly I notice when you’re gone if I noted that you’re here all the time,” You said, grabbing a book from one of the many shelves. Loki was standing nearby, leaning against a pillar. “Can I help you?” You asked.
“Just figured I’d follow, in case you needed something from the top shelf, darling.” He grinned.
“I’m more than capable of grabbing a book on my own, thank you very much, prince,” You rolled your eyes playfully at the man, who only grimaced when you said that.
“Oh, don’t call me that. Mother used to call me that every time I was being improper and now it only gives me traumatic memories.” He said, trying to hold back a small laugh.
“Oh yeah? Well, perhaps I’ll only use it when you accuse me of being too short to grab a book. Besides, I don’t need my height to help me get something from a high shelf, I could always use-” You stopped short, unsure of whether or not you could tell Loki. Frigga always told you to try and keep it a secret from as many people as possible.
“Use what?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Use a step stool,” You said slowly, knowing it didn’t sound believable at all.
“A step stool?”
“Absolutely! Those things are very helpful, even for taller people! You don’t want to hurt your shoulder by stretching it, right?”
“I can’t think of a single time where I hurt it that way, but if it helps you sleep better at night, we’ll say that for now.”
You smiled at the man, who smirked at your reaction. He knew you knew that there was no saving this one. “So what were you going to say before you tried to lie?”
“Would Frigga be mad if I told her son about what’s going on with me? Probably not, but I’m not telling you in case she does,” You said, shaking your head at the god. He frowned, before the smirk returned on his face once again.
“You’re far more interesting than I thought you would be.”
“You once thought I was dull?”
“Oh, absolutely. Most people here are. But you won’t even tell me what’s going on between you and my mother. I can’t say that I’m not intrigued.”
You looked at the shelf before you, keeping your eyes off of Loki on purpose. You grabbed a red book from one of the shelves, clutching it close to your chest. “Looks like I have what I need. I’ll see you later, prince.”
“Didn’t you need something from the top shelf?”
You continued to walk away, refusing to look back at him. You bit back a remark. “I never said I needed one from the top shelf, you did. Besides, if I need one I’ll go find a stepstool first.”
~
The next time you entered the library would be quiet. You looked around the large room. The chairs were pushed into the tables, the small oil lamps were off. Curtains were pulled back, allowing the daylight to seep in, but not so much that they reached the books.
You breathed a sigh of relief, being unable to find Loki. It’s not that you didn’t like him, but you didn’t feel like talking to anyone right now. Frigga exhausted you of your energy during your session today. She wanted to see the full extent of what you could do and all you wanted to do was sleep.
Unfortunately, you had to grab a book on light magic before you could go to your room. Frigga requested you to grab it before you slept, and besides, it would’ve been a far journey after sleeping to go all the way back to the library. It was easier to catch it on the way back.
You walked down the aisles, scanning for the book. It was a large one, the size of a dictionary. It couldn’t be hard to miss. Of course, though, it was on one of the higher shelves.
You groaned outwardly and stepped onto one of the ledges. It gave you enough height to reach the book at least. Easily pulling the black book out, you cheered while stepping off the ledge. Unfortunately, not everything could be as easy as pulling a book out.
A book that was next to the one you wanted slid out because of the opening next to it, falling off the shelf. Before it could hit the floor you held your hand out. It stopped two inches off the ground. You breathed a sigh of relief, before moving your hand up. The book began to move along with your hand, swiftly being placed with the other books.
You lowered your hand, exhaustion really hitting you now. As if it wasn’t bad enough that you wasted energy this entire afternoon on practicing, you used up even more just so that the book wouldn’t crash on the floor. No one was even there, it’s not like it would’ve disturbed anyone.
Or so you hoped.
“What are you?” A voice made you jump. You turned around to see the one man you constantly see in the library. Loki.
“What do you mean?” You asked, rolling your eyes slightly. You weren’t in the mood to tolerate his attitude.
“The way you lifted that book without laying a finger on it. Any magic user would leave some kind of residue on it, whether it’s visible to the naked eye or just something another user can sense. You had neither,” He commented, walking up to you.
“What do you want me to say, Loki?”
“I want you to tell me who you are.”
“Do you promise not to tell anyone else?”
“Cross my heart.”
~
“The Phoenix Force, you say? I’ve only read about it in fairy tales. It’s not supposed to be real.” The two of you were now sitting in a separate section of the library. It was a study room, completely empty, meant only for the royals. You sat across from Loki, who watched you in amazement.
“It’s as real as you and I, clearly. I didn’t exactly have these powers ten years ago. I don’t even remember how I got them.”
“The Phoenix Force is said to only show itself to those who are near death. Perhaps you nearly died once and you suppressed the trauma.”
“Maybe. Either way, that’s why Frigga and I have been working closely together. They couldn’t help me where I’m from. Frigga says that word had spread around that the Phoenix Force made an appearance, which led her to me. She was the only one who would even approach me.”
“Why?” He asked, leaning back in his chair.
“I didn’t have any control over it. Everyone feared me because of it. When Frigga walked up to me I just assumed she was the only one brave enough to end me right there. She used her own magic to protect herself because I kept flinging objects left and right, turning them from glass to gold.” You shook your head, trying to get the awful images out of your head.
“Is that why you won’t tell anyone? You’re afraid of how they will react?”
“Since when were you a therapist?” You scoffed.
“Since I found out you’re more powerful than you look.”
“Careful now, prince. I’ll start thinking you just want to use me. We both know the Phoenix is a lot stronger than a lot of magic when it’s controlled.”
“Then I challenge you to a duel.”
“What?!”
“Clearly you underestimate what I’m able to do, and I’m interested in what you can do now. Let’s have a duel. May the best man, or woman, win.”
“What if your mother finds out?”
“With Thor’s coronation coming up, she’ll be far too distracted to worry.”
~
The two of you met out in one of the gardens. No one was around. The trees were much larger than you thought at first, easily towering over anything nearby. They created enough shade that shielded you away from the blistering sun. The grass beneath your feet was still warm, gently brushing against your ankles.
On any other day you would consider this a beautiful day. Today, you dreaded the gardens. Loki planned for the duel to happen today, only two days after you told him about your powers. He was waiting very impatiently for this day. A part of him simply wanted to test your powers, but another part, you knew, was to try and prove himself.
You hadn’t known him for long, but the conversations the two of you shared were enough to tell you what he was like. He was kind when he wanted to be, but he was slowly being corrupted by the favoritism that lurked within the royal family. Anyone could see that Thor was favored, but not everyone could see how much it affected the younger brother.
Whenever the two of you spoke about Odin, venom would lace his voice. When he spoke of Thor or Frigga, it would be replaced with love and admiration. It was clear he loved his family... Well, except for his father.
If you ever started talking about Odin with him you would find a reason to change the subject. You liked when he talked about anything else. He had a passion for reading, learning about various cultures or magic. The first time you asked you could see his eyes light up. It was clear that he was used to being ignored by everyone.
“It’s beautiful here, isn’t it?” His voice broke you out of your thoughts. You looked at him, noticing that he had his Asgardian armor on.
“It is. I can see why you chose this place now. Is this where you go when you’re not in the library?”
“Sometimes. It’s the perfect place to get away from everyone. Not many people venture this far for a garden. Most of the other gardens are much closer to the castle.”
“Which is why no one will be able to see us having it out as well,” You deduced.
“Precisely. Now, are you ready?” He grinned.
“I was born ready.”
The battle quickly began with Loki running to hide behind a tree. You followed him quickly, looking behind the tree he just went to. He wasn’t there, leading you to back yourself up against the tree, scanning the area for him. You spotted him only a few yards away, grinning at you.
Something felt off about it, so you cautiously walked up to him. He sent a blast of energy at you before teleporting once again. You dodged it, sending you somersaulting away. Before you could get up, you felt a kick send you into a tree.
Almost as if it was an instinct, you lifted your hand, sending a cosmic flame at him. His eyes widened as he quickly backed away from the heat. It was too intense for him, but it was clear it meant nothing for you. “Pyrokinesis, hm? Interesting.”
The flame died out and you could feel the amount of energy you lost. The adrenaline rush was enough to make you stand up though, backing up a little to create some more space between the two of you. He pulled out his blades, watching you carefully.
He threw one of the daggers at you, barely missing your shoulder. Your eyes widened as you tried to figure out your next move. You didn’t have a lot of time though since it was likely he would throw the next one immediately after.
Sure enough another dagger was thrown by you. You jumped back in fear, the dagger skimming past your arm. A small cut appeared, blood beginning to form on top of your skin. Glancing down at it was your big mistake as he took advantage of that.
Grabbing you by the wrists he slammed you up against the trees. Because you were too shocked from the action and too weakened by what you had done earlier, you were practically powerless in this situation. His eyes flickered from your eyes to one of your wrists. “You’re hot,” He commented.
“Well, I’m flattered, but I already knew that,” You said sarcastically. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“What do you mean by that?”
“Asgardians don’t use that word? Oh, nevermind I’ll explain it later. But yes, I’m hot. I always am anymore since I’ve gotten this power.”
“It makes sense. What’s concerning is what you would do if you had to face an Asgardian summer. I fear you’ll burn to a crisp,” He joked. Loosening his grip on your wrists, he backed off.
“Well let’s hope that doesn’t happen. I quite like living,”
He laughed lightly before turning serious. “Your technique needs improvement and it’s clear that you need to train more with the Phoenix. You show potential though. I can see why my mother is meeting with you about it so much.”
“Yeah, I’m hoping she’s able to help me with that. It seems like it’s uncontrollable at times. It just wears me out if I use it too much.”
“That’s expected. You said you’ve had it for less than a decade, correct? No one would expect you to be a master at it yet.”
“Keep in mind that ten years is like a week for me,” You mentioned.
“Even in human years, that’s not long at all for your special case. You need a better understanding of what the Phoenix Force is before you can master it. Fortunately for you, I know exactly where we can learn more.”
~
The weeks went by and you spent more and more time with Loki. You bonded with him more than you thought you would. He was a good person, just closed-off because of how he was brought up. He wasn’t used to being someone’s main focal point. Odin had always pitted him and Thor against one another, so to be able to relax with someone without worrying about his father was... Different. It was new.
Which brought him to this exact moment.
“Will you come to the coronation with me?” He asked, closing the book he had open in the library. It made you jump because it had been so quiet for so long.
“What?”
“Come to the coronation with me.”
“As your date? Aw, Prince Loki, I’m honored!”
“Date?” He questioned.
“Oh for the love of- It’s another thing from Earth that you won’t understand. But wouldn’t that give a different message for everyone if I walked in with you?”
“Perhaps it will. Would there be a problem with that though?” He asked, almost innocently. He knew exactly what he was doing. He needed you to agree to it though. With the planned attack for the coronation, as long as he knows you’re close by he can ensure your safety as well as his mother’s.
“No, not at all. I would love to join you,” You smiled. He smiled back at you sweetly.
“I’m sure you will enjoy it. You’ve never seen an Asgardian celebration. Now that is something that will truly be a blast.”
“And how else would I see it unless I’m standing next to one of the royals? I’m not going to know anyone there though. I hardly ever have a chance to talk to Thor on a normal day!”
“You need not worry about that, Y/N. I’ll make sure you enjoy your time and you get to meet some of the nobles. Most of them are quite dull though so I warn you now they may convince you that these celebrations are actually a bore.”
“What ever would I do without my prince in shining Asgardian armor?” You smirked and rolled your eyes.
“Have an even duller time at the party,” He remarked.
~
Loki had been in his room all day. You weren’t sure if you should knock on his door or not. It hurt to not see him today, but whether it was Thor’s banishment or the stress of Odin falling into Odinsleep, it had brought Loki to lock himself in his room. Even Frigga, who stayed by Odin’s side 24/7 anymore, worried for her son. She worried so much that she actually came to find you.
“Y/N? May I ask for a favor from you?” She asked, smiling softly. You were in one of the abandoned halls of the palace, practicing levitating large objects.
“Yes, of course. What can I help you with?” You asked, worried about her. If this was something so big that she left Odin’s side then it’s something you would help her with immediately.
"It's about Loki.  I know you two grew rather close these past few weeks and I'm happy about that, truly.  He needed someone to be there for him, especially with everything that has been going on.  But recently he found out about something new and that's why you haven't seen him as much.  I know you may have been thinking that he was hiding because he is required by the Asgardian law to take up the throne now, but it really isn't.  He needs someone, needs you to talk to him.  Can you please check on him?" She asked politely.
"Frigga, you know I would love to, but what if he just needs to be alone?  Maybe he doesn't want to see me.  Maybe this is something he needs to do by himself."
"Trust me, dear, he doesn't want to do it alone.  I know my son and this is not something he wants to face alone.  He wants you to ask him about it."
You thought about the choices you had here.  You had considered asking him about it anyway, but now that Frigga was asking you to do it too... How could you say no?  You looked up at her and nodded.  "I'll check on him."
Her smile grew and she thanked you, leaving the hallway.  A small echo could be heard as the door shut.  You groaned, flicking one of the objects up, letting it crash onto the floor.  How were you going to approach him?
~
You made your way to the door, standing in front of it for a few seconds before you even knocked.  You spent five minutes finding your way to his chambers, trying to figure out what you could possibly say to him.  How could you figure that out though?  You don't even know what's wrong.
"Who is it?" His muffled voice came through the door.
"It's Y/N.  What's going on, Loki?" You asked.  IT was one of the rare times you had actually called him by his name.  You always called him "Prince" to annoy him.  The fact that you're not doing it now alerted him that he should really be serious about this.
He opened the door, letting you see him for the first time today.  His eyes were bloodshot and a little puffy, but other than that he looked fine.  With a simple illusion he would've been able to fool anyone into thinking that he was okay.  "Come in," He said, opening the door even more to allow you to walk in.
He shut the door behind you, sitting down on the bed.  You took a place next to him.  "Do you want to talk about it?"
Loki took a deep breath, trying to figure out where to start.  "Have you ever discovered that no matter how hard you try to be accepted you'll never truly fit in with everyone else?" He asked.
It was a rhetorical question.  You knew him well enough now to know that much.
"That's how I feel right now.  I knew that I never had a chance for the throne against Thor, but I finally know why.  I thought that maybe it was because he was the older brother, or perhaps it was because Odin always liked Thor better.  But now knowing, now truly knowing what the reason was..." He drifted off, fighting back new tears.  You placed a hand on his back, rubbing in circles.
"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to," You warned him.  He shook his head.  You remained silent after that.
"I was raised to always believe that frost giants were monsters.  Asgardians fear them, and what we fear we fight.  We kill them, keep them in their place at all times.  That's what Odin did to me because he never told me that I was one of them." He raised his hand, watching it turn blue.
You gasped unintentionally, watching his pale skin turn blue, markings beginning to rise.  You watched as it took his entire body, his eyes turning red.  He stared at you, watching your every movement with sadness.  He knew that if Asgardians feared what he was, then so would you.
He wasn't expecting your next reaction.
"So what?"
His eyes widened and he blinked in shock.  "What do you mean?" He asked nervously.
"So what if you're a frost giant?  You're still Loki to me.  You're still that arrogant, annoying prince to me.  You just look different this way."
"But-" He tried forming words, but for once he didn't have anything to say in response, "But I'm a monster."
"Yeah, sure you are.  To everyone else, maybe.  But to me you're just the prince who I consider my only friend in this place.  No one else talks to me willingly.  I try to come up with conversations with them, but you're the only one who actually wants to talk to me.  You've helped me through training sessions, reading, studying, and coronation parties and I don't think a monster could do that.  So in my eyes, you're not a monster."
"Besides," You decided to continue.  "I'm a monster too, so that makes two of us here."
"What do you mean you're a monster?" He asked, confusion littered across his face.  He seemed almost hurt by the idea of you believing you're a monster.
"Everyone around me feared me because of my powers.  I couldn't go anywhere without them cowering away or trying to kill me.  So trust me, I know exactly how that feels.  It hurts.  It hurts like hell to be treated like a monster, but Loki you are not one to me.  I know you're not one to your mother either." You took one of his hands in yours, squeezing lightly.  He was surprised you were able to.
"How are you doing that?" He asked.
"Doing what?"
"Holding my hand," He responded.  "Frost giants' skin is supposed to be so cold that it can harm anyone who touches them."
"I think you forgot that the Phoenix makes me a lot hotter than other people.  It looks like we balance it out that way," You smiled.  "Do I feel hot?"
He focused on your joined hands, taking his thumb and rubbing your knuckles in circles much like you did with his back.  "No, not at all."
"See?  We may be exact opposites but that works in our favor for once.  Opposites attract, clearly," You laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
He smiled, his eyes turning back to their normal shade of green.  His skin turned back into its regular pale complexion.  He could feel your hand become hotter, or at least it felt like it became hotter as he went back to his normal form.  "Thank you, Y/N."
"Of course, Loki.  We'll be monsters together.  Complete opposites, but that's what helps us stick together," You grinned.  He pulled you into a hug suddenly, taking you by surprise.  His arms locked you in place, holding you close to him tightly.  You wrapped your arms around him, enjoying the feeling.
"Thank you, darling."
You may not have been able to help him through much, but this was something you could do.  His lust for power and his fear would corrupt him later on, but for just this moment in time you could make him feel safe and loved.
And he loved it.
A little buzz sounded as my cell drew open, the chamber opposites sat empty. My head turned slightly to see a gruff man walk in, electrified baton in hand. I knew to be careful when they carried one of those.
"Up." Was all he said, hand wrapping around the metal cuffs and yanking me to my feet before he was dragging me through the desolate corridor.
It was strangely quiet - the past month the cells had been full, SHIELD agents and enemies of HYDRA clogging up the little glass rooms with blood stain clothes and bruised faces. I guess they'd been disposed of, and that though sent a chill down my spine. Is that how I was to end?
His hand pushed roughly between my shoulder blades, one foot falling over the other in a stumble as I fell into the room, the guard stepping in behind me and letting the heavy metal door slam shut with a threatening thud. The man I had first met when he smiled grimly at me once my alterations had first been completed was waiting with a smug grin - a sickening expression a rarely saw him without unless it was replaced with one of rage. I had come to know him simply as 'General'.
"Good afternoon, Miss Stark." He grinned, waving his hand menacing to motion me forward. I did as I was told, plodding forward tentatively until I was stood before him. A wince escaped me as he rough grabbed my chin, pulling it between his thumb and finger to tilt my head back so my gaze bored into his. "We are starting your training today." He stated, his free hand reaching around to unclasp the metal contraption laid over my mouth.
He tossed it to the bench that stood next to him before he raked a hand through my greasy hair, pushing the tangled locks out of my face. He seemed to observe me for a moment, letting his eyes wander over my body - which was clad in some simple black tactical suit - before landing back on my eyes again.
"You will be fighting the winter soldier every day for at least two hours. This training will only stop once you have beat him, and once this happens, we'll know you are ready to be released into the world." The General explained, letting go of my chin and giving me a nudge towards the centre of the room. It was only then that I saw the soldier standing there.
But he was not my comfort buddy. This version of him was rough, cruel looking. His teeth were bared, chest heaving and nostrils were flared. His bicep bulged against the leather of his suit and his face was set in a ruthless scowl. I gulped, meekly making my way to stand in front of him.
"Begin." Was all the general had to say before the soldier was on me, metal fist flying for my head in a fast punch. I ducked just in time, scurrying to the other side of him and taking the time to think.
I begun to hum a hypnotising tune, in hopes of stopping the lug of a man preparing to hit me harder this time, but with no luck. Distracted, his fist collided with my stomach this time, sucking the air from my lungs and lurching my backwards until my ass connected with the ground. I groaned loudly, rubbing my sore stomach as I tried humming again. All the while the soldier advanced on me, taking heavy step before his Chucky boat was connecting with my side.
"You may found his mind is much...stronger than a usual human's." The general smirked and my eyes widened as I quickly flipped onto my front, desperately attempting to crawl away. But I had no luck, the feeling of the soldier's gloved hand made me cry out as it gripped my hip and pulled me backwards harshly before his metal hand curled around my throat. He hoisted me up it the air, turning my small body in his hands as if I were as light as paper before slamming my head backwards into the wall, hand still tight around my neck.
My legs kicked aimlessly in the air, hands clawing frantically at his own as he repeated slammed my head backwards against the concrete.
"Enough!" The general barked as I felt my eyes rolling back, consciousness falling from my grasp. The soldier released me, my limp body falling the the floor at his feet as I coughed and spluttered. The soldier tune Ed away, walking to the centre of the room as I gasped for air and leant forward on my hands, retching at the ground from all fours. "Again!"
My eyes widened in realisation and I began to scramble to my feet, but the ominous footsteps reached my first and before I could utter a single word my body was crushed to the floor, the soldier's thick thighs straddling my own - tapping my arms at my sides too - to stop my from flailing.
The impact of his metal fist crashing against the side of my face burst my lips open and the wet trickle of blood down my chin made me shiver. Then it hit again and I cried out, a stinging echoing across the right side of my face. I could feel the flow of blood from my nose and the tangy taste of it on my tongue as it infiltrated my mouth, sliding over my lips.
I started to slip away, ready to let the pain take me when I heard the word boomed again.
"Enough!" The soldier pulled away instantly, pushing up from my thighs and thudding back across to the centre of the room again. A dizziness washed over me, and I soon came to realise that it would be a long time before I beat him. Then the dreaded word was ordered, reaching a groan from me as I climbed onto shaking feet, this time raising my aching arms and dusting my hands in order to attempt to block him: "Again."
... You'd think that was the worst part, huh? Well, guess again. What the general had definitely failed to leave out was the punishment for losing. For each game I lost, I earned myself five strikes.
When our first session was up, I was quickly escorted out - not before they replaced my silencer (that's what I opted to call it) - and dragged to another new room. This one also stood bare, only housing a single wooden pillar that stood around my own height that housed a round metal cuff of either side about half way up. I sealed thickly, eyeing the cuffs with fear and hesitation as I was shoved forwards until I was stood before the wood.
"Kneel." That order was spat at me, and the baton in the guard's hand made me oblige quickly, sinking to my knees before it and grimacing at the uneven gravel under my knees that bit into my skin even through my suit. He silently walked over to me, grabbing my wrists one at a time and locking them into the cuffs - nothing gentle about it. The jingle of his key was like nails on a chalkboard in my ears as he slipped my back into his belt and walked away.
The door was slung open, loud footsteps approaching me before an unsettling breath was at my ear.
"Maybe after this, you'll actually try to win tomorrow." The general gritted out, the cold tip on a knife hooking into the top on my suit and poking the back of my neck making me flinch. I gasped suddenly as he yanked the blade down, slitting the suit down the back and cutting it free of my arms until the fabric bunched at my waist. My sports bra was next to go, leaving me feeling humiliated as I felt the watchful eyes of both the general and the guards on my bared breast and nipples which were leaked from the cold.
I felt humiliated, knelt with my wrists bound and my top half naked in a room full of much less than honourable men in a place I didn't know. I flinched again when I heated the whip crack in the air, the general flicking the leather around in order to test it out.
"Why don't you count for me, princess?" He mocked, the sinister laughter of the guards adding to his at the sexual inference and my bottom lips quivered. The snap of the leather against my back sent a scream through me, snuffed out by the silencer. My body quaked and my eyes pooled with stinging tears as they became bloodshot red. Sweat broke out on my forehead as the once again sickening feeling of blood trickling down my skin filled my senses.
One, I counted in my head and a second later, the second hit harder than the first.
║Aether║Hate Me
Angst??
Word count: 2.2k
---
The stars- when looked from way down below in Teyvat- was much smaller, this is what you concluded as you gazed at the dark sky being glittered with little white dots.
"How many months has it been?" you muttered to yourself, subconsciously clutching the grass under your hands. 'Since I have felt this way?'
As you dwell in your own thoughts, you didn't hear the oncoming person and was spooked at the sudden contact of their hands on your shoulders. "Hey." It was Aether, the Outlander that is not from here- from Teyvat. The one who trespassed to this world.
"Is something bothering you?" he asks, sitting down beside you, gazing the stars as well. Yes, there was something bothering you, but that was something you dare not tell him until that day comes. But, you were conflicted. When that day truly comes, is your heart still as merciless and cold as before or has your heart fallen to a trap by the male beside you?
"No.." you lied. "Just couldn't sleep." It wasn't truly a lie, per se. You couldn't sleep and it was because of the pondering thought of the day when the Outlander's journey will finally draw to an end.
"Same here, but it seems that Paimon is having a good sleep," he chuckles, looking over his shoulder to stare into a make-shift tent at his small companion. "May I join you?" he asks when his eyes returns to meet yours.
You nodded. "I mean, you already are here anyway," you stated. He chuckles. After that, silence befell on the two of you as you both ogle at the stars.
Your heart ached as you repeatedly ask yourself, "Could I kill him?". When you met them, it wasn't by mere fate. You wanted to meet the Outlander simply to assess his being in your world and nothing more, but oh were you so wrong. Instead, you joined him in his adventure-- ate with him, chat with him, laugh with him. Now, you regret staying any longer than you had planned because you didn't know what to do with your feelings.
"May I.. Lean on you?" you ask, eyes now on the ground. Aether turns to observe your face, seeing a lot of mixed emotions swirling in your eyes. What were they? He does not know. But he does knows that whatever it was, it was too much for you that you seemed lost. So, with that said, he nods. "Of course."
Content with the answer, you leaned on his shoulder, closing your eyes. Aether returns to gaze at the stars until you had fallen asleep. Quietly, he brought you back inside the tent and returned to sit outside. The day, he thought to himself, is coming. Knowing this, his hands clenched into a tight fist.
What is that day? The day when he finally meets the one who took his sister. He looks behind him once more, asking himself whether or not to leave you there. He doesn't want you to get involved, especially when that god who took his sister was most likely going to kill you, a weak mortal who is powerless to the divinity that even Archons feared.
Aether did not sleep throughout that night, waiting for the sun to rise to tell him that it was finally the day he gets his sister back.
Paimon woken up from her slumber, greeting the Outlander outside. "You're up early," she yawned. "Good morning, Paimon," Aether greets.
After the remaining sleep finally shaken off of her, she spoke right into the matter. "So, are you ready?" she asks. Aether nods sternly and then turns to your sleeping figure. "But we have to wait until a little someone has woken up," he adds.
"You sure that's the wisest choice? I mean, you're fighting a divine that is way too powerful," Paimon points out, fearing for your safety. "Yeah.." He will allow you to decide to leave the field of battle rather than forcing you to go. You might not have a vision, but you were certainly a fiery one and more than capable to kill and Archon if need be.
When you awoke, you three finally went to Celestia- the place where the god resides. Upon stepping onto the land far above the ground of Teyvat, you noticed how barren it was and clearly not one worth the praises of mortals below.
"I think that is where the god lives!" Paimon points to the obvious choice of a building. Right in the centre of all things and much more grander than the ones surrounding it.
"But where are the other gods?" Paimon asks, seeing as there was not even a single soul around. The Outlander were told many times that Celestia was a haven and in it, resides those fit to be a god. But now seeing Celestia with your own eyes, the words of the people turned sour as it was completely false.
Walking head on to the grand door, you were greeted with a wide room that was empty of all things except pillars that decorated the sides and a single red carpet that stretched outwards, stopping right at the throne in the end.
Paimon fidgets as the Outlander makes his way inside, eyes darting around the room for any signs of the god.
You stayed far behind, not even taking another step when you stepped inside the room.
When Aether was at the foot of the throne, the room began to dim a colour red as large cubes appeared out of nowhere. Aether and Paimon looks at the cubes, full with alertness.
"H, hey.. Aren't those people inside?" Paimon shakily points at one of them and gestures to some others.
"You're right." A voice somewhere far off the room answered, their voice booming louder than Paimon's.
It was the god.
The god was in the same room.
But that god..
Aether reflexively turns to look at his back at the sound of the all too familiar voice-- at you. "H, huh? (Y/N), you're not.." Paimon trails.
No longer the face the two met and recognize, orange eyes stare down at them; cold and one of a merciless being. "I am the one who you seek, Aether." You are the one he seeks and in doing so, he planned to kill you and get his sister back.
Aether's eyes widened and in that moment, his heart shattered like a fragile crystal. He felt betrayed, but most of all, saddened that you- the one who joined his adventures one day- was the god.
He shook his feelings, remembering the reason why he started to look for all the Archons in the first place. Gritting his teeth and sword in hand, he stances himself to fight. "Tell me, where is Lumine?" he demands. He doesn't want to fight you and hope that there was some sort of explanation for your actions.
"Your sister? Who knows? She might be in one of those cubes or escaped successfully," your voice monotoned, free of any emotions that you might've once had. Stretching your arms outwards, a black vortex of a cube appeared to your beck and call just like before-- when the two of you met in your true form all those years ago.
"Aether," you began, watching him dodge your incoming attacks, "I'll let you in on some knowledge. These people- the ones inside the cubes- have the right to godhood." Your feelings dissipated that night when you fell asleep and your eyes showed that. If he wanted to kill you then you have to kill him first.
"This is Celestia, the place all mortals wish to be in. The seven embedded words of praises in their heads and give me chosen ones as their duty as Archon," you continued, "I govern Celestia and Teyvat. If I see a person not fit of living, I erase them-- this applies to Archons as well."
"Many have tried to rebell against me so I had to cleanse this world as their great divine," you state. "You came at the wrong time, Aether-- well, not like I would have allowed you to trespass in the first place."
"You do not belong in this world. But in this world, I allowed you to die. Unfortunately, that didn't happen," you said.
"Why can't we just talk this over, (Y/N)?" Aether shouts from across the room, already scrabed by one of your attacks. "Why? As the divine, I have no time to talk to foolish people like you," you answered. "My role is to punish."
After time, one of your attacks took a blow on him and he fell backwards, sword far from his reach. You floated down and walked towards him, kneeling to take a closer look at his eyes that held hesitation. "Aether, do you not wish to kill me?" you ask. "You are wavering, Outlander."
"No, I don't," he grunts. Your blinked your eyes twice, showing great surprise. Something flickered in your chest. Were you the one wavering instead?
"Oh? Have I fooled you into thinking I was your friend all along? How foolish." Your eyes darkened. "If you want your sister, you better kill me."
"And what if I don't? What if I just continue to make you talk?" he asks. "I will have no choice but to kill you," you answered almost immediately, as if you have thought of the scenario before.
"I know you won't." Those word he said struck you deep. He was right, you admit. You have fallen in love with the Outlander and the single tear he saw that trickled down your face as you sleep showed that. "Please, we can talk this out. What you're doing isn't right, (Y/N), and you know that."
"These people that you've locked up doesn't deserve this," he said. His heart turned sour for you, but he did not give up in pestering you with questions, using your feelings as he does. "Didn't you feel happy when you went on an adventure with me?" he ask. "Or did you treat it as entertainment?"
No, he was wrong. You didn't think it was something foolish. You truly did enjoy what you two did- talking, laughing, and the other fun things you two did. Your heart opened up because of that. "I.." You tried to speak, but nothing came out.
"I like you, (Y/N). So please, tell me why you're doing this!" he confesses, voice loud that it echoes throughout the room. Your eyes widened. He likes you? Your heart fluttered and all signs of the coldness you once wore faded-- never to return again.
"I, I'm sorry.." You cried, on your knees as you buried your face into your hands. Aether instinctively hugged you and you accepted, crying even more. He admits, he still holds hatred towards you, but getting you to lower your guard and help him rather than kill you was a much better idea.
His sword disappeared from the ground and reappeared in his hands. Should he kill you? Now that you were at your weakest, he could easily kill you. But just as he had said to you, he liked you and killing you might make him go insane.
Not knowing what to decide he asks, "(Y/N), where is my sister?" You look him in the eyes, tears staining your face. "I, I don't know.." You don't know? What does that even mean?
"She isn't in one of my cubes, you can see it for yourself," you said. Aether looks at each cubed prison. You're right, Lumine wasn't in any of them. "But didn't you take my sister?" he asks, feeling blood boil up in his veins.
"I did, but I don't know what happened after that, please believe me," you pleaded, subconsciously gripping your hands onto his shirt, not knowing how to explain this uneasiness in your heart when you stare at him. "S, she might be dead.."
This was it for Aether and the next thing you knew, pain washed all over your body and coughed out blood. You stare at Aether with wide eyes filled with shock flowing him as he takes out the sword from your back and standing up.
He stares down at you, eyes now visible with hatred, watching as you collapsed onto your side and coughed out more blood that splat onto the cold, hard floor.
"A, Aether.. I.. I thought.." You couldn't continue-- not when pain was everywhere. "If only you weren't the god.." he muttered. "But if you don't have my sister, what use are you to me?"
He grits his teeth and kicked you to lay on your back before he stomped on your stomach, letting it stay there. You cried out in pain. "If you don't have her, it means that she could have been dead all this time for all I know!"
More tears fell onto the floor, staring at the man who just confessed to you not too long ago and let your guard down.
Light in your eyes started to die out, but he didn't care and watch it does so, uttering one last thing:
"I hate you."
