thinking about whether my general disinterest for stories that strive to be purely interpersonal and focused on individuals, separating themselves from more overt "political" questions, is just a random preference of mine or if it ties into some of the aspects of myself I've been Realizing™ lately
#of course all individual stories can be extrapolated to humanity as a whole. or to subsections of it#but I'm talking about this book I just finished#a retelling of the arthurian myth focused on the figure of Morgana#(yes yes I know don't you dare think anything about it)#where the author expressly separated Morgana from the symbol and tried to present her as just a woman.#traumatized by her childhood and seeking personal comfort. apart from all the political questions the book raises#(shamelessly using the political background of the arthurian legend and stretching it to parallel modern issues)#and I see how that's rule breaking in a way#writing this mythical woman more as a full person and less as an archetype or the personification of a set of ideas#and yet. am I supposed to be satisfied by that?#'oh the great tragedy of my life is purely personal. divorced from the wider conflicts taken place around me even when it's provoke by them'#sorry. that just sounds less exciting than the other option#but what does this say about me and do I like it#now. why am I telling you this. the awful impulse to overshare onlie where does it come from#mine
