Brb crying over Timon and Pumba and the artists who storyboarded them
#like#and the lion king. you wouldnt expect it to see it but according to what ive read and heard it was more of a passion project#the studio was working on Pocahontas at the same time which was considered the more artistic and -snaps fingers- uh the.#the more prestigious(!) film. lion king wasnt really supposed to be good. people didnt want to work on it. so the ones who DID iirc#basically turned it into their passion project out of SPITE. like ok. i c u and u kno wat. im gonna make this the best thing ever then.#and on the way to doing that they fell in love with africa and changed the film to reflect it. and distilled those pieces into the movie 2#like i think i remember pieces of scenery being anachronistic to the geography which is why i say africa as opposed to#the savanna. and is why we get the zulu in the op etcetc#and so the spite turned into love and and care and that in turn elevated it beyond anything ANYONE EVER expected#and. and i think thats beautiful. thats the joys of creating. because its telepathy in a way.#when you love what youre working on and youre passionate about it your audience can tell#just like they can tell what a shameless money grab looks like. -looks at the lion king LA remake-#and that ability to connect on a metaphysical level without ever having seen the people but to feel their love and excitement and#its beautiful. i love it. i dont know if thats true tho im 99% sure it is but. i also want it to be.#Pocahontas was important to me growing up because. hell. representation hi. lol i even had a Pocahontas barbie.#but it also feels like....pretty for the sake of being pretty. and also like the people who were attracted to women were. uh. having fun on#that level too. among other things. and so the feel of the movie feels different. and i think thats why fewer people connected to#a movie about people than a movie about lions and warthogs and hyenas etcetc#because we can still sense the humanity not just in the story telling but behind the screen also.#and i love it.#i mean i think there's a lot to be said for pretty for the sake of pretty. i love pretty things.#but the weight on the humanistic level tends to lag there a touch. emotional connection counts for so so so much#and just#hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i wish 2d animation was still in.#i dont get that feeling as much from 3d as i do from 2d. its still so much hand rendering but.#idk.#idk what it is. maybe im just biased because 2d is my original love and passion but.#it just. feels more. than digital. analogue vs digital i love analogue every time.
