i've rewritten this post like 17 times cause im really not trying to be a huge stick in the mud about this but like i keep seeing it and. it really rubs me the wrong way when people say xie lian is 'too feminine' to be a strong character (already very weird thing to say about a character whose gender presentation is clearly posited as important to them) and then do stuff like shorten his hair or change his robes to make him more 'masculine' when they draw him . . . like 1) why is it even considered okay in the first place to deny gnc / gq men their femininity 2) don't you think it's kind of racist to say a character is too feminine and then go ahead and change traits that are masculine or neutral in their culture to ones that are masculine in western cultures. doesn't that feel weird to do. like you can do whatever you want i can't stop you it just really bugs me when people actively dunk on his canon appearance. this happens on tiktok all the time where people are like ermmm he's supposed to be the STRONGEST martial god how come he's feminine 🤨🤨🤨?? and it somehow manages to be homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic and racist all at once. really incredible
