Pregnancy Pie the Musical
Or Waitress if you’re lame.
Waitress has the potential to make somebody want to get up and dance while also having the ability to make somebody want to crawl in a ball and cry. The fucking r a n g e
It’s such a pretty musical.
And as I listen to What’s Inside, I remember that I will be next greeted with “deepshit blueberry bake in”
There it is.
Opening Up is a certified bop. Like, seal of bop-hood granted by me. And probably @lesducks
As all songs I try playing, I learned Opening Up on my uke, but it didn’t sound right. But! My birthday is in three days, so maybe we will have a guitar to make things sound better.
If you don’t do the accents when singing The Negative, you’re not singing The Negative.
The Negative is friendship goals. Get you friends who are going to be paranoid as fuck with you when you have to take a pregnancy test. They’re not going to call you down, nope. They’re going to match your anxiety ridden energies.
HEY! HEY! HADESTOWN, TAKE FUCKING NOTES! ALL OF THE SONGS IN WAITRESS ARE UNDER 4:30 SECONDS! THE ADHD THEATER KIDS DON’T HAVE THE ATTENTION SPAN FOR THAT LONG ASS SHIT
I know the plot of Waitress, and if I thought hard enough, I could tell you what was happening during each of the songs and what led up to them. All except for What Baking Can Do. I have no clue what’s happening during that song.
Do I like Club Knocked Up? Generally speaking, no. Will I listen to it still? Yes.
Waitress 🤝 Hadestown
Songs on the Cast Recording that are literally just instrumentals or talking
When He Sees Me is iconic. Another certified bop. Dawn is a whole ass mood. “I don’t like guessing games” she says as she plays a guessing game for the nest three minutes or so.
“Dawn, don’t you think you’re being just a little- i don’t know- just a tad bit-” “I’M NOT DEFENSIVE”
It took me so long to process “I could end up a miserable wife” because I am but a humble idiot who has the ability to process sentences of a literal fireplace.
It Only Takes a Taste and Just a Taste are the same song. Like, literally the same song.
It Only Takes a Taste makes me happy because of how enthusiastic Dr. Pomatter sounds when he says “yeah, no, that’s exactly what I mean.” So sweet. I say like he didn’t cheat on his wife. Minor details
You Will Still Be Mine was the first Waitress song I had really gotten into, and I was really sad to see that Nick Cordero had passed away.
Soft guitar song. Pleasant brain sounds.
Never Ever Getting Rid of Me makes me really upset thinking about that one girl on Tik Tok that bought tickets to Waitress on Broadway and then started loudly singing and recording herself during the show so that she could sing this song.
Bad Idea but I’m Dr. Pomatter. Let it happen.
Sometimes you just have to cheat on your husband with your also married doctor when you’re pregnant.
Bad Idea but it’s Renée Rapp and Antonio Cipriano.
Jenna: *cheats on her husband*
Jenna: *sees Becky cheating on her husband* :0
Jenna, literally the next song: *continues cheating on her husband*
I Didn’t Plan It goes so hard. Just screaming it is helpful when I’m angry, and even if I’m not angry it’s such a good song.
Bad Idea (Reprise) is just a mass cheating. And for some reason it’s really catchy.
You Matter to Me but it’s Renée Rapp and Antonio Cipriano at 54 Below. I should count how many times I mention a 54 Below performance or cover of a song. Cause it’s a lot.
In the spongebob narrator voice “several months later”
I will forever cherish the confusion on my mother’s face when I played I Love You Like a Table in the car. She was just sitting there like “THAT DOESN’T EVEN MAKE SENSE.” ‘Twas glorious
I love that Dawn just casually wrote a drum line.
Take It From An Old Man is just not it. I’m not a fan of the way it sounds. It doesn’t make me feel anything when I listen to it, and in comparison to the rest of Waitress, it’s just lackluster to me.
Dear Baby is not a song. It is dialogue. Why is it on the fucking album?
She Used to Be Mine but it’s Renée Rapp
She Used to Be Mine but it’s Natalie May Paris
She Used to Be Mine but it’s Jeremy Jordan
Okay, I’ll stop now. But go listen to those because yes.
THE CONTRACTION BALLET IS JUST BREATHING, AND IT MAKES ME UNCOMFORTABLE BEYOND COMPARE! UGHHHHHHHHH
Okay, now that that’s over, Everything Changes is so pretty, and I love it. I can’t call it a bop per sé, but it is a certified vibe.
Why does this make me so emotional? I’m a teenage girl who is most certainly not a mother
Opening Up (Finale) is what we call perfect. It makes me wanna jump around and smile and sing and shit. Just like- I really like it.
WHAT’S INSIDE OF LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE
SUGAR! BUTTER! FLOUR!
Wooooo! I got through three musicals today, and I’m pretty proud. I’m trying to do Wicked and The Prom tomorrow and then I can do Come From Away on Thanksgiving. And then that means I can have my birthday as Frozen day.
Final Judgement: Waitress is a great musical and has the ability to attract not only theater fans, but also people who aren’t as interested in musicals because of it’s fun songs. It doesn’t make me feel overwhelmingly sad or happy, which is how you want to do it. 10/10 would recommend

Waitress on the West End
Having been a fan for about two and a half years, I finally got the chance to see this wonderful show. I went to see it with my friend who I have been talking about taking to see it since it was announced it would come to London and I haven’t seen her in months so it was a perfect reunion. I have seen the bootleg many times so there’s not much else I can say about that but I still want to share my thoughts.
The theatre really does smell of pie and they hand out pies in little ice cream cup things. However, they cost £7 each so no thanks.
The stage is surrounded by pies in tubes spinning around.
I’ve stopped comparing casts of shows as it becomes so hard when all the actors are amazing and there’s no way you can decide which is better than the others. Most of this cast were the same but there were two standout performances and I think those were Marisha Wallace as Becky and David Hunter as Dr. Pomatter.
Marisha: She has the most incredible belt. No audio would do it justice. And the way she delivers every line is comedy gold. It was an interesting choice to cast a younger actress as Becky and something I have noticed the West End does a lot which is quite a problem but I can’t complain in this scenario as she was so good. It also brings up the issue of them slimming down characters as Becky is typically played by fat actresses and I would not necessarily call Marisha fat. But again, she was truly amazing.
David: I was worried about his performance beforehand as my friend had heard his accent was a little off. Indeed, he slipped out of the accent on the first line but after that it was perfect. He was just so awkward because he’s so tall and thin and didn’t know what to do with his limbs and he kept doing awkward dorky dancing. He really made me love a character who I have had trouble with (given that he’s a cheater and all with a loving wife).
Moment I almost cried: during What Baking Can Do, we see Jenna’s mum and dad and her dad being abusive. I had never noticed this on bootlegs and it was just something so devastating in one of my favourite songs.
Some songs only had one instrument playing and it was visible onstage and it was so cute!
I forget that there are people who haven’t seen the bootleg and who gasped when Jenna and Dr Pomatter made out, and laughed especially loudly during the *ahem* eating out scene
Another thing I never noticed on the bootleg and idk if they changed it but there’s an f/f and m/m couple in the background during bad idea (reprise)
She Used To Be Mine is so amazing and so heartbreaking live.
The people behind me actually laughed every time Earl said something emotionally abusive because “haha he’s so stupid”. I wanted to turn around and shout at them.
Lulu is soooo adorable! The actress playing her came to the stage door with her mum and asked if she could wave at everyone before leaving.
Jenna, Dr. Pomatter and Dawn didn’t come to the stage door but everyone else did and I was amazed how many are British as their accents were so good. Earl is Scottish and really nice irl. My favourite to meet was Nathaniel Morrison who is an ensemble member and so talkative and friendly.
For the things I didn’t like:
Was not a fan of this Joe. He just seemed too mean and grumpy and didn’t quite pull off the sweet old man. I’d heard people on here say that about him already which might have influenced me but they were right.
I just don’t like Ogie as a character. He reminds me way too much of Earl and I hope that’s part of the commentary. He’s so toxic and stalkerish and I can’t believe they make it a joke. Everyone in the audience around me was laughing so much and I giggled a bit because he genuinely is funny, but at what cost? The actor who plays him is very good though and so nice.
