Survey #383
“the big bully try to stick his finger in my chest  /  try to tell me, tell me he’s the best  /  i don’t really give a good goddamn ‘cuz i got my lunchbox & i’m armed real well”
Ever had a friend online for a long time without seeing a photo of them? Well yeah. Most of my friends are online, and while I've seen pictures of most at least once or twice, some I still haven't. The last time you threw up, what caused it? It was a side effect of a mood stabilizer I started. Any foods from other countries you would like to try but haven’t yet? I'm sure there's something, idk. Do you think the world would be more peaceful without any religion? Yes. Have you ever had a stalker? No. Does it hurt your feelings when people talk shit about things you love? It makes me self-conscious way more than anything. I start to obsess over whether or not the person things poorly or weirdly of me for liking what I like. I just feel judged for liking it, but that's my problem. Do you like it when people give you nicknames? I do, actually. It feels kinda affectionate to me. Do you often find yourself checking out people’s butts? Haha I'm not gonna say it's never happened, but it's not something I make a habit out of for sure. What fandoms are you in? MEERKAT MANOR IS BACK BAYBEEEE, Markiplier, Silent Hill, Shadow of the Colossus, World of Warcraft, Spyro, Wings of Fire, and lots more, honestly. I'm into a lot of stuff, and I don't love in moderation, haha. Are there any fandoms you used to be in, but left? Yeah, like Supernatural, Good Mythical Morning, or Warriors, but it wasn't out of "I don't like it anymore" or anything, I just drifted away. Anything the fans in your fandoms do that pisses you off? World of Warcraft if particular has one of the most toxic fucking fanbases. There are so many goddamn elitists and people who whine about "boohoo WoW is dying" and "omg this game has been trash since Wrath" and yada yada yada and it's annoying as hell. They always find some shit to complain about. Then Silent Hill... ugh. I think people just hop onto the "the series sux after 1-4" bandwagon to fit in with a certain crowd, but that's not the main thing that annoys me; rather, it's the fact the former main admin of the SH wiki made a fucking joke out of us there. He was clearly having personal issues and made a HUGE and utterly ridiculous deal of Silent Hill 4 having heavy symbolism to the main character being obsessed with the bullshit idea of him being circumcised, and it led to a maaaassive thread of us members trying to talk some damn sense into him as he abused his power. He was finally banned by the Wikia staff, but not in time for some gaming websites to publish "news" stories about it because it was just that ludicrous. Now, YEARS later, we still get trolls coming onto the site to try and revive the drama by inserting absolute rubbish into pages or making new ones. Nowadays I'm the main administrator there, and it's fucking embarrassing sometimes. I'm supposed to keep the wiki under control and respected, you know? Ugh, I'll stop. I could rant for a very long time about this. Do you prefer ruffly or regular potato chips? Ruffly. Do you write down your own recipes, or just commit them to memory? I don’t cook. What color do you want to dye your hair? My top three are pastel pink, lilac, and a light creamsicle orange. I REALLY want to dye it SOMETHING. :( How do you like your chicken? Of course breaded (like nuggets, tenders) is my favorite, but I also enjoy is broiled and seasoned well. There's other ways, but because I don't cook, I, uh... don't know how a lot are made lmao. Do you enjoy cheese fries? UUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH YES. Do you eat refried beans? I absolutely hate beans, so no. What is a food you enjoy, but don’t have very often? A whole lot because a lot of it is from restaurants and we don't eat out all that much. As well, my diet is very narrow just because of how picky I am. Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn? Why? I mean, what are we comparing them for? I think Audrey is fucking gorgeous, though. Marilyn is also beautiful. Favorite fictional world? Uh, I dunno. Do you use lint rollers often? No. Do you carry pepper spray? No, but I want to. Has your power ever gone out for more than a day? I think so. Other than a dislike button, what’s something you wish Facebook had? Hm, I dunno. What time do your parents normally get home from work? Mom can't work right now, but I think Dad gets off around 5PM. Are you afraid to ask people out on dates? Yep. Do you think it’s better to look for love or let it find you? Both can work, but I definitely prefer to let it find me. I feel that *in general* that usually has better results. Have you ever found yourself worrying about commitment? No. I'm a very committed person romantically. Would you get involved with someone if they had a child already? No. Have you ever had a rash from poison ivy? I don't believe so, no. Do you have any chairs in your bedroom? No. Did you watch Elmo as a child? Some, yeah. Do you know anyone who doesn’t eat meat? I don't think so, off the top of my head. When you throw up, do you cry? No, but I'm a whiner and will also shake from fear because I have such a phobia of vomiting. Doing it totally turns me into a baby. Who was the last person to carry you? I couldn't tell you the last person to full-on carry me, but back when I tore a ligament in my foot, my mom kinda had me lifted when she would help me walk. Is it easy for you to accept loss? Absolutely not. I handle it very, very poorly. Have you done anything sneaky lately? No. Have you ever had a rolling back pack? Yes. Who knows you better than anyone else? My mom, probably. Would you ever want to go to Brazil? Sure, if the opportunity came up. Are there any medical conditions that run in your family? A lot, mostly heart problems. What band has the best guitar solos? Metallica imo. Who is the biggest jerk you've ever met? She was somehow my former best friend. Have you ever swerved off the road to avoid hitting an animal? I've never been in that situation, thankfully. What's a charity you would never donate to? I'm really not familiar enough with charities and their practices to know which ones are sketch or not. Have you ever grown your own herbs? No. Do you have any exes you'd consider dating again? Yes. What were some of your favorite classes you took in high school? Art and German. Mythology was fun, too. Do you know anyone with a profession in law? Yeah, I have a cousin that's a lawyer. Have you ever Googled yourself? Yeah, outta curiosity. What's the shortest amount of time you've had between relationships? Like, two days. Part of the reason I left Girt was because I liked Sara. As a child, what comfort foods did your parents make for you when you were sick with a cold or flu? Chicken noodle soup. What's a movie series where the sequel was better than the original? Ha, for some reason Inspector Gadget came to mind. I guess from mentioning my childhood. I was FUCKING OBSESSED with that movie as a kid. The first one's fine, but I love the second one. Does your car have heated seats? Mom's doesn't. What is the strangest pizza topping you've ever eaten? Nothing strange, really. Describe your hometown. What’s it like there? Small and dangerous. Lots of run-down areas. A gang nearly broke into our house once, if that helps you get the picture. What was the last video game you beat? I replayed Silent Hill 2 forever ago. What did you learn from your last failed relationship? It really just taught me that you need to take care of your own mental health before you can effectively handle another's properly and strike a healthy balance. What country does your favorite band hail from? Britain. What’s something on your to-do list that never actually gets done? Finish decorating my room. -_- Have you ever been really passionate about something but then lost interest? If so, what was it? Good Mythical Morning, I suppose. I used to be OB-SESSED. I still adore Rhett and Link as people, they are fucking wonderful human beings and excellent entertainers, I just drifted away from their content. I don't really know why. Do you sleep with the TV or the radio on? No. What’s the worst thing about being male/female (whichever you are)? Menstrual cycles, I'd say. It affects your mood so much, and as someone who's bipolar, it can be very confusing. I like to know why I'm feeling a certain way. What movie has the best special effects? /shrug How many work hours per week is too much for you? I wouldn't know, I've never really worked long enough to figure this out. Can you remember your first day of school? I think I have the faintest memory of it. I know I was very scared to leave my mom (I had absolutely awful separation anxiety from her) and I MIGHT have cried, but I don't really recall with certainty. Have you ever entered a modelling competition? Would you? No thanks. Did you keep any drawings/stories from when you were younger? Most, no, because the level of cringe is LITERALLY unbearable for me. Do you have a safe? Mom does somewhere. What’s the scariest thing to happen to you so far? The breakup. That night was just fucking terrifying. I was so certain my life was over, like the situation was so, so impossible in my head. What was your last dream about? (or your daydream if you don’t remember) My memory's faint, but I just remember I had a nightmare where a LOT of my bones were totally snapped in half. When was the last time you saw a relative? Excluding my immediate family, I last saw my now-departed grandmother and my uncle a while back at a hotel as they were passing through. Have you ever been in a TV audience? No. Are you in any way close to reaching a personal goal? Not really... Do you prefer crosswords or word searches? Word searches. Do you like making collages? Not really. Do you remember any inside jokes from childhood? No. What would you love to learn to do? Digital art, like drawing on a tablet. Do you prefer monkeys or lemurs? Lemurs. Do you watch movies based on the actors or the movie plot? The plot, 100%. Are you more shy in real life or on the internet? I am WAY more shy irl.

How Does Hypermobility Affect Your Feet?
If you have hypermobile joints, you're probably already used to experiencing others' surprise and confusion when you mention it. Even though estimates say that about 20% of the population has hypermobility syndrome (HMS), few people know about it. And even fewer understand what it is and what its symptoms are. You may experience chronic pain as a result of your condition; this pain can come from your lower back, hips, or knees. But did you know that HMS can also affect your feet? It's true: having hypermobile joints can cause problems with pain and injury in your feet. Let's look at some ways HMS affects your feet—and how a Podiatrist Windsor can help you manage those effects.
Hypermobility can cause musculoskeletal pain.
In some cases, this can lead to pain in your joints and muscles. The trouble is that it's hard to pin down which hypermobility causes what kind of pain. You could be born with hypermobility, or you might develop it over time after an injury or illness.
Some types of musculoskeletal pain are more common than others among people with hypermobility:
joint instability (a joint that feels loose or unstable)
joint tenderness (pain in the joints)
muscle weakness (feeling weak when you try to move your arms or legs)
Hypermobility can result in early-onset osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition where the cartilage in your joints starts to wear away, causing pain and stiffness. The most common places you'll find OA are in your knees, hips, and hands (called degenerative joint disease).
Hypermobility is known to be a risk factor for early-onset osteoarthritis. The reason why this happens is that it's harder for hypermobile people to keep their joints stable when they move them around. So if someone with hypermobility twists their ankle while running or playing the sport, it's more likely that they'll end up with an injury that will lead to osteoarthritis later on in life.
Tumblr media
Hypermobility increases your risk of injury.
As you can imagine, this increase in flexibility can leave your body open to injuries. The ligaments and tendons that hold your joints together are not built to withstand such a stretch. As a result, it is not uncommon for someone with hypermobility to experience injuries like sprains and tears around the knees or ankles.
For example, if you were to twist your ankle while playing sports or dancing and land on it incorrectly—even just once—you could tear something called the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). Your ATFL works as a stabilizer between two bones on either side of your ankle joint; when it is damaged by injury or overuse, it causes pain when walking upstairs or running on uneven ground. This kind of injury will require some time off from activities like dancing or hiking until the pain subsides so that healing can begin.
It's important for anyone who has hypermobility symptoms to be aware of these risks so we can avoid further issues down the road!
A podiatrist can help you manage your hypermobility symptoms.
You may have tried to deal with your hypermobility symptoms on your own—but you're not alone. A Podiatrist Windsor can help you manage them, and in many cases, they'll be able to recommend the best way for you to do so.
When it comes to treating hypermobile feet, it's important to remember that not all treatments are created equal. For example:
Some of these therapies will simply involve changing how you walk or run; others might require surgery and/or a more invasive procedure such as taping up the area around your heel bone (calcaneus).
There are also some treatments that can help reduce swelling in your lower leg (plantar fasciitis), including corticosteroid injections and orthotics that provide extra support for specific areas of concern within your foot.
Conclusion
Hypermobility is a great way to keep your joints healthy. However, it's also good to know how this condition affects your body as well so that you can avoid pain in other areas like the knees or ankles. There are many ways to keep hypermobile joints strong, so if you want more help with any problems related to hypermobile feet, then talk with your doctor today!

Turf toe and Treatment
What You Should Know About Turf Toe Bowers and Martin introduced the term “turf toe” into the literature in 1976 to include soft tissue hyperextension injuries in athletes.15 Although we have grouped these injuries under the general heading of turf toe, they represent a number of different injuries from mild to severe around all the structures of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MPJ).
The incidence of turf toe injuries is difficult to quantify.16 However, turf toe injuries rank third behind knee and ankle injuries at major universities.17 While researchers coined the term turf toe with the advent of artificial turf, these injuries do not solely occur on artificial turf.16 In one study involving the University of Arkansas football team, ankle injuries were more prevalent than first MPJ injuries. However, the first MPJ injuries were more severe, accounting for a disproportionate number of missed practices.18
The most common mechanism of turf toe injury is usually pure hyperextension of the plantar capsule of the first MPJ.18 To diagnose the structures involved, a knowledge of the functional requirements of the great toe during athletics is necessary. As an athlete rises on the ball of the foot to initiate activities such as jumping, blocking or running, the hallux dorsiflexes at the MPJ upward of 100 degrees. As the proximal phalanx extends, the sesamoids move distally and the articular surface of the dorsal aspect of the metatarsal head bears most of the load. In the progression of forward motion at the first MPJ, the plantar complex attenuates or ruptures, leading to unrestricted dorsiflexion at the joint. This can lead anywhere from partial tearing of the plantar structures to frank dislocation.
In addition to pure hyperextension injury, combined mechanisms occur and depend on the position of the first MPJ and the associated forces applied to the hallux at the time of injury. An injury to the medial plantar structures caused by a valgus directed force is more common than injury to the plantar lateral structures caused by varus directed forces.19,20 The turf toe type injuries can increase in severity in the presence of excessive foot pronation because of the hypermobility and the lack of stability when the foot hits the ground, thereby allowing a further amount of abnormal dorsiflexion to occur at the first MPJ.
A Guide To The Etiology And Classification Of Turf Toe We generally accept that the two most common etiologic factors of first MPJ turf toe-type injuries are the playing surface and footwear flexibility. It is likely the athlete at the greatest risk for sustaining injury is the one who participates in cutting or pivoting with lightweight flexible cleats on synthetic turf or hard playing surfaces.16
Researchers have classified first MPJ acute injuries into three general categories.20 In evaluating these injuries, the clinician must keep in mind there are many variations to the injury. A comprehensive and accurate history is always critical. On-field observations are the most helpful. Reviewing game tape video will provide keys to the real mechanism of injury that occurred. Hopefully, this will be available to you to improve your assessment.
In the actual examination, one should note the presence of ecchymosis and edema, paying attention to the location. Perform palpation of the joint surfaces of the first MPJ. Assess the comparative joint range of motion bilaterally. Assess abnormalities such as a mechanical block from interposed soft tissue entrapment, hypermobility resulting from a plantar plate or complete capsular tear as well as joint instability.16 Perform varus and valgus stress testing as well as the Lachman test (dorsoplantar drawer test) and compare the test results to the uninjured side. This can help you assess the plantar capsular ligament complex. Resistance examination of the first MPJ can help you evaluate long flexor and long extensor strengths.
Pertinent Treatment Insights On Turf Toe When treating turf toe, first evaluate the patient’s foot structure as well as shoe and cleat wear, and then make the proper adjustments. One can work with the athlete to improve Achilles, calf and peroneal flexibility, if necessary, in order to increase dorsiflexion through stretching, foam roll and the Graston Technique®. If the condition is chronic, use the Graston technique and joint mobilization to break up joint adhesions and improve range of motion in the ankle and toe joints.
Intrinsic muscle exercise and foot and toe exercises can help improve function. Exercises include picking up marbles with the toes, toe crunches and towel curls. Control the pain and inflammation with deep icing of the joint along with compression and electrical stimulation. For athletic activity, a “turf toe” tape job can help with function and decrease the chances of irritation.

Hi there! I'm wondering if you could possibly write me a little some from prompts 33 and 53? MSR?
Dear Anon, this somehow turned into a sequel to this prompt.
33. “Are you surethat’s the decision you want to make?” + 53. “Do you think I’m scared of awoman?”
They’re lucky, for once; the ER is mostly deserted. No otherdisoriented, disorganized agent in here with an unexplained injury. The nursetold her that a doctor would be with them in just a moment, but Mulder can’tkeep his eyes open. His head keeps lolling about only to snap back as soon asit hits anything solid. Whether it’s her shoulder or the window in the carearlier. “Drunk, huh?” The doctor, a short blond female greets them with asharp nod, snaps on her latex gloves and smiles at Scully. Who feels strangelyprotective of Mulder at that moment.
“Actually, no,” she answers not knowing if it’sthe truth; for all she knows Mulder is drunk and has been ever since he showedup at her apartment earlier, “he hurt his wrist.” Mulder, like a lostpuppy, offers his swollen wrist. The doctor grabs it and he winces.
“Yeah, we’ll x-ray it,” she says, “so whathappened?”
“I had an accident,” Mulder’s words are slurred;Scully is certain that he did not sound like this earlier, “Just anaccident.”
“Is it just your wrist? Did you hurt anyone else?”She turns to Scully, who shrugs. She doesn’t know anything and for the firsttime this night she thinks maybe she should have asked Mulder beforehand. Thisis not like her; she is unprepared in every sense of the word,
“No one else hurt,” he assures them, “no,wait!” Both women turn to him. Scully tries not to think about it. Maybehe got into a drunken fight. Or he hit someone with his car. There’s an endlessstring of possibilities running through her mind; this is Mulder after all.
“My pride,” he grins, “I think I hurt mypride.” Scully feels her cheeks burn. She feels sorry for the poor doctor. But her pity is limited; at least doesn’t have to take Mulder home with her andnurse him back to health. That job lies with her and her alone.
“That's… it would really help, Mr.-” she checksthe chart, “Mulder, if you could give us some information about what hashappened. Is anyone else hurt? Another human being?” He shakes his headno, finally.
“I went running,” he quickly glances at Scully, before he looks at the ground, “and I took off my shoes in the bedroom. Ialways do. I took a – a shower. I forgot the shoes and well. My hand stoppedthe fall.”
“No alcohol was involved?”
“No,” Mulder sighs, “I took a couple of pillsto make the pain go away.”
“What kind of pills?” Scully asks before thedoctor can and earns a confused glare.
“She’s a medical doctor,” Mulder explains for her, grinning from ear to ear, “I thought it was Tylenol. I don’t think itreally was Tylenol, though, Scully. I feel dizzy.”
“Come on, Mr. Mulder. We’ll just x-ray your wrist andthen you can sleep it off.” He follows the doctor and a young nursedutifully.
“I’m not drunk,” he tells them, “Scully, tellthem I’m not drunk.”
“I hear you, Mr. Mulder. Given your current state, Ithink it would be a good idea if we kept you overnight.”
“I’ll take him home with me,” Scully interjectsquickly and Mulder smirks, “and make sure he gets all the rest he needs. Iam, like he said, a doctor myself.”
“All right,” the ER doctor is not convinced, butScully couldn’t care less right now, “Now let’s get your wristx-rayed.”
Scully watches them wander over and fights the need tofollow. Mulder doesn’t need her to hold his hand. Their voices are fading asthey slowly make their way down the hall; it’s quiet here this late and thewhite walls echo only Mulder’s voice, louder than usual. Or maybe she’s just soattuned to him that she can hear him amongst all the chaos in the world.
“Do you think I’m scared of a woman?” She hearshim ask and she sees his face turn towards the tall nurse. “If you’retalking about my partner then you’re absolutely right. She shot me once, youknow.” The words put a smile on her face and it’s the last thing she hearsfor a while; the nurse gently pushes Mulder into a room and closes the door.
When Mulder returns, finally, his wrist is in a bandage.Scully throws the magazine she’s been reading aside and quickly joins him.
“Just a torn ligament.” He answers her unaskedquestion, grinning at her as if he won a prize.
“Mulder, it’s not funny.”
“I agree. It really hurts. I think the pills arestarting to wear off again.”
“Here’s some ibuprofen you can take, Mr. Mulder.” Thenurse hands him the pills and Scully takes them from him immediately. The nurseblushes.
“I’ll make sure he takes them.”
“Of course. I’ll finish the report.”
“Oh Mulder,” Scully sighs, gently examining hisbandaged wrist, “come on, we’re going home.”
In her living room, Scully removes the melted Ben &Jerry’s container as Mulder, still wearing his jacket, examines the VHS box ofScully’s movie. He holds it up like a piece of toxic waste.
“Did you watch this?”
“We can’t all have your excellent taste in movies,Mulder.” She mocks him, making sure the molten ice cream doesn’t drip onher carpet. She throws the container away and stares at it longingly for amoment. This is definitely not how she imagined her quiet weekend at home.
“We can watch it,” Mulder almost yells, “Idon’t mind, you know.”
“Mulder, you need to sleep. Whatever you took earlier, you should sleep it off.” Scully makes a mental note to check the pillbottle tomorrow when she takes Mulder to his own apartment. And then take itaway from him.
“I’m not tired. I feel like I slept all day.” Hedoesn’t look like it, though, she thinks, biting her tongue.
“But Mulder,” Scully sighs; she doesn’t want tocomplain, she really doesn’t, but it’s late and he’s looking at her like thatpuppy again. Ready to be walked, ready to be entertained, “I’mtired.”
“Then go to sleep. I can,” Mulder looks around,“I’ll find something to do.”
“Mulder, please.” Scully begs of him. For a momenthe remains still, but she can almost feel the wheels turning in his head – and shehas a distinctive feeling she’s not going to like whatever he’s going to saynext.
“How about we make a deal.” His lips curl upwards.
“What kind of deal?” Scully asks carefully.
“I think I remember you wearing a certain garmentearlier. Or was I hallucinating?”
“Mulder, no.” The grin disappears and his lowerlip comes forward just the tiniest bit in a sneaky pout. Scully can’t help butthink that he knows much how that affects her. He must know.
“Then I’m not going to sleep.” He tells herdecisively, turning away from her. She rolls her eyes; all she wants right nowis to sleep and she knows it’s not going to happen if Mulder is out here, unobserved.
“Mulder,” she begins, but he refuses to look ather; just like a little child, “Are you sure that’s the decision you wantto make?” He nods, playing with the lapels of his jacket. It completelyslipped her mind to help him out of it.
“Mulder, look at me,” he doesn’t, “I have adeal for you.” His head snaps into her direction.
“Let me help you out of your jacket first.” Mulderlets her take it off for him. They manage to avoid coming into contact with hiswrist. That’s something at least. Until she remembers that she’ll have to helphim out of the rest of his clothes, too, in the near future.
“What’s the deal?”
“Ask me again about the tank top,” he opens hismouth, “when you’re no longer high on drugs. Now come on, g-man. We needto get you into bed.” He mumbles something, but follows her obediently.
“What, Mulder?”
“I’m not high on drugs, Scully.” He mimics her.
“Of course not,” she not so gently shoves him intoher bedroom and he sits on her bed, waiting, “We have no idea what youtook, Mulder. So I’d rather wait for it to wear off.” For once he decidesto remain silent. He lets her help him out of his pants; he’ll have to sleep inhis boxers and t-shirt, Scully decides. Mulder watches her as she reaches for herpajama pants she threw on her bed earlier.
“I’ll be right back,” she tells him gently,“get under the covers.” She almost winces; she sounds like his motherand that’s not at all what she wants. As she enters the bathroom, she hearsrustling and she sighs in relief. In the bathroom, she quickly puts on herpajama pants. For a moment she debates whether to leave the t-shirt on or not;it stays on, she decides, turns off the bathroom light and joins Mulder in thealready dark bedroom.
“Scully?”
“Hm?”
“I’m sorry.”
“About what, Mulder?”
“Everything. I crashed your evening and I realize I – Iprobably should have called. And I didn’t mean to, with the tank top. I know I –just ignore me, Scully. You’re probably right and I’m high on drugs. Goodnight, Scully. Thank you for letting me stay here.” With a sigh, she grabsthe hem of her shirt and takes it off. It lands with a soft thud on the floorsomewhere.
“Scully?” She’s aware he can’t see her in thedarkness.
“Shut up, Mulder,” Scully says, lying down next tohim, “And sleep.”
He manages to stay quiet for a couple of minutes; longenough for Scully to almost fall asleep. Almost.
“Scully? Are you – I must be hallucinating, but… areyou wearing the tank top?”
“Mulder, if you shut up now you’ll wake up to mewearing it in the morning.” Scully expects him to say something – anything– but he remains beautifully quiet. She doesn’t tell him that if he’s hisnormal, drug-free self tomorrow, she might even let him take it off.

Acupuncture Found Effective For Pelvic Inflammation
Acupuncture Found Effective For Pelvic Inflammation by Ting Feng , healthcmi.com June 24, 2017 Researches find acupuncture effective for the treatment of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). A total of 70 female patients were randomly assigned to two groups and the results were compared. Group 1 received acupuncture and group 2 received Fu Ke Qian Jin Pian for oral intake. The group receiving acupuncture had a 91.43% total effective rate and the Fu Ke Qian Jin Pian herbal medicine group had a 74.29% total effective rate. Acute PID is often treated with antibiotics and surgery; however, chronic PID is often unresponsive to multiple regimens of antibiotics and exploratory surgery. This research indicates that acupuncture and herbal medicine are both effective for the alleviation of chronic PID. Acupuncture outperformed the herbal tablets by 17.14%. The 91.43% total effective rate produced by acupuncture indicates that it is a viable treatment option for patients with chronic PID. Chronic PID is characterized by persistent low-grade subclinical inflammation. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease is categorized under the scope of abdominal pain, vaginal discharge (leukorrhea), and infertility. PID involves the pernicious influence of fire-poisons (i.e., infection) in the lower abdomen, specifically in the uterus, broad ligaments, fallopian tubes, cervix, or ovaries. Scarring may cause infertility and long-term inflammation damages the qi (energy), thereby causing deficiency of the body’s constitution. Primary Acupoints Guanyuan (CV4) Zhongji (CV3) Zigong (extra point) Xuehai (SP10) Sanyinjiao (SP6) Tianshu (ST25) Guanyuan (CV4) and Zhongji (CV3) are Ren meridian acupoints, which regulate the Chong and Ren meridians. The researchers selected these acupoints for the treatment protocol for their ability to dissipate blood stasis, dredge the meridians, and to relieve pain. Zigong (extra point) and Xuehai (SP10) acupoints are used to eliminate blood stasis, relieve pain, and dredge uterine vessels. Sanyinjiao (SP6) is an acupoint located at the intersection of the liver, spleen, and kidney meridians. In TCM, it is used for nourishment of yin. Tianshu (ST25) benefits the lower jiao, intestines, and stimulates qi circulation. Secondary Acupoints Shuidao (ST28) Yinlingquan (SP9) Hegu (LI4) Taichong (LV3) Diji (SP8) Qihai (CV5) Zusanli (ST36) Secondary acupoints were chosen for each participant based on differential diagnostics. Shuidao (ST28) and Yinlingquan (SP9) eliminate blood stasis and damp-heat. Hegu (LI4) and Taichong (LV3) acupoints regulate Qi and blood circulations. Hegu (LI4) and Diji (SP8) dissipate cold, dredge meridians, and enhance blood circulation. Qihai (CV5) and Zusanli (ST36) enrich Qi and promote blood circulation. Treatment Both groups were provided with 4 courses of treatment, each course of treatment consisted of 5 days of continuous treatment. After each treatment course, patients were allowed to rest for 2 days prior to the next course of treatment. The acupuncture point prescription was based on the Zhen Jiu Xue (Acupuncture and Moxibustion) text and the clinical findings of Professor Li Yue Mei from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Secondary acupoints were chosen based upon differential diagnostics: Damp-heat stasis: Shuidao and Yinlingquan acupoints. Qi stagnation and blood stasis: Hegu and Taichong acupoints. Cold-damp stagnation: Hegu and Diji acupoints. Qi deficiency and blood stasis: Qihai and Zusanli acupoints. Patients were instructed to first urinate and then rest in a supine position. Stainless steel acupuncture needles (30 gauge, 1 – 1.5 inches in length) were used. Tianxie brand disposable sterile needles were used to perform the acupuncture therapy with single-handed needle insertion techniques or hold-and-insert techniques. Upon deqi arrival, primary acupoints were manipulated with mild reinforcing and attenuating techniques. Additional acupoints were manipulated with pressing, rotating, reinforcing, and attenuating techniques. The needle retention time was 30 minutes per acupuncture session. Needles were manipulated once per session. Patients in the herbal medicine group did not receive acupuncture but received administration of Fu Ke Qian Jin Pian. The herbal medicine Fu Ke Qian Jin Pian (0.32 g/tablet) is manufactured by Zhuzhou Qianjin Pharmaceutical Co, Ltd. Fu Ke Qian Jin Pian was taken orally with warm water, 6 tablets each time, 3 times per day. The patients were asked to avoid spicy, raw, cold, oily, or greasy food. The tablets were comprised of the following ingredients: Dioscorea japonica Fructus rosae laevigatac Radix angelicae sinesis Radix codonopsis Herba andrographitis Indicators According to the researchers from Guangzhou, CRP (C-reactive protein) was observed as a degree indicator of low-grade inflammation in chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. The researchers selected the monitoring of CRP for several reasons. CRP indicates inflammatory responses. Tissue injury often rapidly increases concentrations of CRP, usually within 4–6 hours. CRP is not affected by gender, age, hypergammaglobulinemia, anemia, pregnancy, and other factors. CRP activates the complement system, which is a cascade of biochemical responses in the immune system that promote inflammation. CRP activates the complement cascade via the C1q (an 18 polypeptide chain) protein complex. Hence, C-reactive protein was observed in this study as an indicator of the degree of low-grade inflammation in chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. Results Acupuncture produced a 91.43% total effective rate. The breakdown is as follows: 10 completely healed, 16 had excellent results, 6 had significant improvements, 3 had no improvement. Fu Ke Qian Jin Pian produced a 74.29% total effective rate. A total of 7 completely healed, 12 had excellent results, 7 had significant improvements, 9 had no improvements. The results of the investigation indicate that acupuncture and herbal medicine are effective for the treatment of chronic PID. Survey #382
“’cuz if i stand up, i’ll break my bones, and everybody loves to see a fall unfold”
