My current thought is that it's because she took in Bumpy. Bumpy's a (probably illegally-trafficked) dinosaur, the family probably doesn't know that much about them or trust her...and I'm assuming that Sammy probably did something big and they got mad at her for that.

On the other hand, though, I think she'd remember Bumpy sooner if that was the reason. Wouldn't wait for Ben to speak or anything.

The way she moves on could be a homophobia thing, but...also, yeah. I think it's the part where she keeps going "IT'S FINE. I'M FINE. EVERYTHING'S FINE." She won't even get Brooklynn's stuff out of the guest room.

It should be noted, though, that if that is the case, we're going to have to resolve Sammy's issues BEFORE That Particular Event happens in the show. Otherwise, it's going to be a cheap cop-out. Unless they do a Mission Failed thing and Sammy has to recover differently.

What makes me more curious than anything is that I genuinely can’t think of a reason why Sammy’s family would stop talking to her (THAT WE KNOW OF). I don’t think it’s because she likes girls; in season five we see her dad be very welcoming once Sammy and Yaz tell their respective parents that they’re dating. Obviously this doesn’t mean that the rest of her family was as happy but I just don’t think it’s the case. Nor do I think it’s her spying that she did in season one. Because the way she talks about her family in JWCT makes it seem like their no contact is a relatively new thing, or at the very least, not six years old. (Which is why I also don’t think it’s because she’s gay) My closest guess at the moment is that it’s because Sammy refuses to stop with her “everything’s fine ignore the smoke!” attitude and get herself the help she needs. But then again, I feel like her family wouldn’t turn away, rather they would try to HELP her. So really it’s just a shot in the dark. Anyway what I’m getting at is that MAYBE the reason they’re drifting away is something totally new and not anything we know so far. And if that’s the case I am PUMPED and I really hope it comes up in season two
