This was an idea I had cooking in the past.
Essentially since she’s the big diamond commander and stuff I thought a cool gem power would be that she has these blades that she can then kinda combine to create different kinds of weapons. Like a living armory of sorts.
(Or I just wanted an excuse to draw Yellow in all sorts of cool poses 👀)

Rapid Fire Tips for New Players
You can hit a stunned partner out of their stun.
Speaking of stuns you can see when a partner is stunned, next to their name two little yellow stars will show up and they stand still while wobbling helplessly. You can also hear when someone gets stunned.
One fire? Roll 3 times on dry land and fire's put out. On water or moist surfaces you roll twice or once and the fire's out.
Sharpen your weapon between "matches". When a monster stops attacking to go to another area it'll be the perfect time to sharpen your weapon. Please do.
ALWAYS BRING LIFEPOWDER!
Unless it's an Elder Dragon always capture the monster. I know y'all wanna be edgelords and kill the monster but it's in YOUR best interest to capture the monster. Unless you want to repeat every single optional hunting quest. Plus it's safer to capture, say you're one cart away from failing the quest and the monster is finally going back to its nest. If you capture it it can't fight back which means there is ZERO chances for you to faint.
Speaking of Elder Dragons, they cannot be captured. Traps (shock, pitfall) do not work on them. There is no way you can capture an Elder Dragon, I don't care what the commander said. In fact he should've known better!
Always upgrade your weapons. Trust me, you don't wanna play catch up once you reach High Rank. It'll be insanely frustrating.
Go back to the smithy every once in a while to see if you can upgrade your armor. Don't be an idiot. More defense = less damage = less carts. Don't be cheap with your armor upgrades.
Always take some time to go gathering, fishing and foraging in all different maps. You get materials, you can gather monster clues, you learn the map, you find pets, and unlock investigations. This is also an excellent way to complete bounties which net you Research Points and Armor Spheres. Green (easy), blue (medium), red (hard).
Every time you spawn back in Astera stop by the Resource Center (place with the woman, elf and dawrf...I think it's a dawrf...).
Make use of the Botanical Center. Trust me.
Take some time to rearrange your item box. It's empty now compared to how it'll be later, especially after Kulve Taroth. You're welcome.
It's okay not to "main" a weapon. It's also okay to have a comfort weapon. Play around with all 14 and see how you do and how comfortable you feel. Some have a heftier learning curve than others. There are plenty of good tutorials on YouTube. The only weapon I can give a full tutorial on is Insect Glaive ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
However! I do suggest you get acquainted with at least 1 ranged weapon for hard to reach monsters like Rathalos, Paolumu, Bazelguese, Azure Rathalos and Legiana. *laughs in flash pods*
Hey, dual blade users, quit fucking doing Demon Dance every chance you get. It's extremely risky as you are locked in a lengthy animation and a monster can easily cart your dumb ass. You also should not do Demon Dance on a downed monster's head if you're in multiplayer. The head belongs to hammers and hunting horn users. You go for the body.
Downed/tripped/KO'd monsters can be divided in 3 parts for attacking: head, body (this includes the wings) and tail. Each weapon is "designated" for each part. To sorta give you an idea: horns and hammers go for the head. Insect Glaive, Dual Blades, Sword and Shield go for the body and/or wings. You can even divide yourselves. One on the back/wings and one in the front so you don't trip each other. Long Sword and Great Sword users go for the tail. Charge Blade and Switch Axe users can go for either the tail or body just asses the situation. Bow, Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun don't need to get up close and personal so they can go where they please just be mindful not to shoot your partners.
Hey, Great Sword, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Hammer and Hunting Horn users. Be mindful of your partners and your upswing attacks. You'll send your partners flying which means less DPS on the monster which is never a good idea. Ever. Unless you're communicating and someone asks for a boost to mount the monster then go ahead and upswing that bitch and y'all can laugh about that successful mount later.
Hey, Hunting Horn users, before you even think about engaging a monster do the Improvement Song on yourself. You're welcome.
Hey, Bow users, you know the Arc Shot? Neat right? Stop fucking spamming that shit! Look, unless you got it set up to get consistent KOs all you're doing is flinching your partners out of their attacks which means less DPS on the monster and like I said that is bad, no bueno. Quit. It. Even if you have it set up right you only throw it when you can get it lined up right so that rocks hit the monster's head.
Hey, LBG users, you know your Wyvernblast? When a monster is tripped, falls over or gets KO'd run up to its head, plant 1 Wyvernblast near it and let your meelee weapon partners go ham on it. MORE DAMAGE!
Hey, Insect Glaive users, you know all those really cool aerial attacks you can do? They're practically useless! Stop it! While pretty and flashy it does less damage than grounded attacks. Aerial attacks are pretty much situational and a bit niche. Don't spam that shit!
Hey, Bow users, yes, you again! Dragonpiercer looks really awesome but you should never do it just because you can. You're locked in a long animation and the monster could aggro you and cart you because you decided to be flashy. There's other reasons not to do the DP because it has less elemental damage but I don't know the math behind that. Find some tutorials on why DP is no good really.
Wanna join a quest? Cool, do not click on "available quests". It's rude, you'll most likely fuck up whatever the host is trying to do and there's a good chance you'll get kicked out anyway. Unless you're in a squad session or someone asks people in the hall to join their quest there's no reason for you to do that. Don't be that person.
If you wanna avoid uninvited guests just change your player limit to 1 so it's just you. Or put a password so no one can come in unless they know the password. Just know that if you change the amount of players to 1 you can't use the SOS Flare.
Abandon Quest will replenish all items you used so if a quest isn't going your way you can use that option.
If you're in multiplayer and you or someone else carts DON'T BE AN ASS CLOWN AND LEAVE THE QUEST. Fucking stay, you never know, you might just make it. 4 is better than 3, 3 is better than 2 and 2 is better than 1.
Please, please, please refrain from making racist, homophobic, rape and other offensive shoutouts. It's stupid af, cringey and you look like a fucking moron. I can't believe it has to be said in the year 2019 but I've seen some really stupid shit.
When in multiplayer please fucking avoid taking every item out of the item box. Each person takes 1 pack of potions and 1 pack of rations. That's it. Everything is shared between y'all and taking everything is a bitch ass move. Share!
Don't be that person that stops in the middle of the fight to carve a tail. There's a good chance you'll get hit by an attack and cart. Do it when the monster leaves the area, is killed or is captured.
If someone mounts a monster DO NOT FLASH THE MONSTERS. If you're a ranged weapon keep attacking. If melee take the time to sharpen your weapon and heal or reapply buffs. Soon as the mounter takes the monster down it's time to go ham on it. You get a few seconds of free DPS as the monster will be down and won't attack.
A lot of people still do this shit and it's caused a lot of carts. Do not flash Lunastra. It doesn't make her fall, it just pisses her off and she spams her Super Nova attack. This is for High Rank people.
Guild cards! Send them to everyone you see but only once. There's an achievement that unlocks once you collect 50.
Need help in the arena but no one wants to help? Go to the Handler or board. Online Session - Search for an Online Session - Filter Search - Quest Preference and switch it to Arena. It can be filtered to find any specific thing you need and chances are there'll be people already hosting sessions to do a specific thing.
If you're trying to track down a monster but the scoutflies are all over the place and you're kinda lost just open the map and close it. That resets them.
You can save builds in loadouts and it saves everything you wear so it makes switching between builds easy. Everything saves. Only got 1 specific decoration that you wanna use for several different builds? That's okay, make the build, save it and then make the other builds. The game itself will remember what you had saved and it'll "move" tat one decoration to the build you equipped. Easy peasy. Though I suggest you wait till High Rank so you can save the good end game loadouts.
You can also make item loadouts and save them. You can also customize the wheel and save it to the item loadout.
There's monster poop in every map. Hoard that crap like your life depends on it because it WILL depend on it during HR when Bazelguese and Deviljho decide to invade your quests.
Investigations are perfect for farming. Need a monster piece? Check your Hunter Notes and see what part you gotta break for it and then start an investigation. Bronze boxes give you shitty parts, silver give you good parts and gold gives the best parts.
Slinger ammo is actually more important than you think. Try to always have some ammo loaded on your slinger in case you need to get a monster's attention, need to stop it from escaping or flinch it after it pinned you down and you need to make a quick get away.
Monsters have weaknesses and resistances. Check what a monster is weak to and use it. Don't go fighting Kirin with a thunder weapon! Remember Pokemon? Same concept.
When you or a partner makes a monster fall asleep stop attacking! You can tell because the monster suddenly stops attacking and the music dies down. This is the perfect time to put some bombs on the monster to do massive damage. When you see a sleeping monster don't touch it!

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne - How to Use Every Weapon's New Attack
Tumblr media
Last Edited: September 7, 2019 at 8:32 PM
Each weapon in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne received upgrades and brand new moves with the expansion. This is in addition to the new tool, the Clutch Claw! Watch the video below for a concise montage of how to do every new weapon attack, or continue below for more detailed instructions for each weapon.
Tumblr media
Video Time Stamps:
Note: All commands are listed as PS4 controls, for Xbox use the cheat sheet below.
PS4 Button Xbox One Button Square X Triangle Y X A Circle B L1 LB L2 LT R1 RB R2 RT
Tumblr media
All weapons with the ability to aim now also get the ability to aim switch between their normal reticle and the slinger with the weapon drawn. Simply press L2 and R3 to switch these aiming modes.
Tumblr media
In addition to this the Bow also gets the added move Thousand Dragons. This is a devastating short-range shot that uses all of your slinger ammo. Note that you can still use this attack without slinger ammo but it will do far less damage. To perform this attack hold L2 and click in R3, then Hold L2, Triangle and Circle simultaneously.
Tumblr media
Encouraging Charge Blade users to use the axe form more often, the Savage Axe Slash is added to the Charge Blades already extensive technical maneuvers.
Tumblr media
To perform the Savage Axe Slash, when using an Amped Element Discharge or Super Amped Element Discharge, hold down L2. This will perform an upward slash that changes your Axe into a spinning wheel of death known as power axe mode. Each consecutive swing while in this state will use stored phials.
Tumblr media
Dual blades get two useful additions to the move set. Firstly is the Claw combo. Enter demon mode using R2 and use Circle 3 times, ending with L2.
Tumblr media
This will hit the monster with your clutch claw letting you grapple onto it from the combo. From here you also have a Spinning Rising Slash using Triangle or the other clutch claw attacks as usual.
In addition to this, Dual Blades also gets an additional evade maneuver called Evade Shot. Attack with Triangle and then press L2.
Tumblr media
You’ll evade to whatever direction you indicate with your left stick, firing a shot at the monster in the process. Keep in mind that this does require slinger ammo.
Tumblr media
The Greatswords new addition is an add on to its Charged Slash attack. Charge up to a True Charged Slash, and should that hit be on a soft part of the monster’s hide, the second hit will change into a more powerful True Charged Slash. This can be a great combo once a teammate weakens an area of a monster with the Clutch Claw.
Tumblr media
In addition to this, Greatsword also receives Slinger Burst, where after attacking with triangle, you can press L2 to fire a powerful slinger shot that can stun monsters for an opening. You can also then immediately press triangle again to combo into a True Charged Slash.
Hold L1, then press Triangle/Y + Circle/B to load the Wyrmstake Blast. This requires slinger ammo.
Tumblr media
You can then use the Wyrmstake Cannon Combo to make the shot and lodge the Wyrmstake Blast Stake into the monster’s body for a while, then hit the Wyrmstake with shelling to detonate it for extra damage.
Tumblr media
With the Hammer, you have two new moves in your arsenal with Iceborne. The first is comboing your charge attack into a Claw Shot. Charge an attack with R2, right after you unleash the charge attack, you can fire your claw with L2, a nice way to stop the charge while keeping the flow of battle. The claw attack changes on the level of charge.
Tumblr media
The second added addition is the Slinger Burst, a powerful slinger shot used while charging that makes monsters flinch more. While charging with R2, before unleashing the attack, tap L2 to fire a Slinger Burst.
Tumblr media
Like the Insect Glaive the Heavy Bowgun can also switch between its standard reticle and the aiming of the slinger with the weapon drawn. Simply hold L2 and press R3 to change up the aiming.
Holding L2, Triangle and Circle Simultaneously attaches a special scope to your weapon – if the mod is equipped.
Tumblr media
When hitting a target from a specific range while using this scope, a super critical blast will be initiated. You’ll know by the bright orange reticle. ‘
Tumblr media
The new addition to the hunting horn is the Echo Attack. Pressing L2 after an attack performs an Echo Attack.
Tumblr media
The Echo Attack will leave an Echo Mark on the Music Staff. Sometimes performing a melody with the Echo Mark will leave an Echo Bubble, which applies effects on contact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a few new additions to the Insect Glaive. Firstly is the ability to switch between aiming the marker of your kinsect and the aiming reticle of your slinger. You can do this by holding L2 and pressing R3 down.
Secondly, the weapon gets some new mid air attacks. While in air, pressing R2 will initiate a Descending Thrust, while L2 will initiate a Mid-Air Claw Attack.
Tumblr media
You can also Charge Your Kinsect with Slinger Ammo.
Hold L2 + Triangle/Y + Circle/B.
Power Charge requires slinger ammo dropped by a monster. This Increases Kinsect attack, and decreases the interval when Kinsect Powder is released.
Spirit Charge requires slinger ammo found in the field. This increases the Kinsect’s max stamina and the duration of the hybrid effect for combining three colors (excluding green).
Tumblr media
The Lance receives a new Guard Shot technique as well as a Claw Counter Stance.
To perform the Guard Shot, Hold L2 to go into guard stance and then hold R2 to fire a Slinger Burst at the monster.
This Slinger Burst will be a more powerful version of the standard slinger shot that’s more likely to make monsters flinch.
Tumblr media
Holding L2 and Circle will perform the claw counter stance.
Tumblr media
This consumes stamina, but lets you cling onto a large monster with your clutch claw should it hit you. You can also combo into this from a guard shot or counter thrust.
Tumblr media
Like the other weapons that aim Light Bowgun also gets an aim switch to make it easy to use clutch claw, but it also gets a few new moves depending on which mods you’re using.
With the Evading Reload Mod Attached, shoot, then dodge twice immediately to load while evading.
Tumblr media
With the Wyvernblast Type 2 mod attached, Wyvernblast is replaced with a forward firing mine that counters with a large explosion when attacked by a monster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Longsword gets some very cool attacks it can easily combo into from many of its other attacks. After attacking you can use R2 and X to go into a Special Sheathe that can be followed up with the following:
Special Sheathe: Attack, then R2 + X/A
Then:
Iai Slash: Triangle/Y after Special Sheathe
Use the Iai slash to gradually increase your Spirit Guage. If you land the hit just as the monster attacks, you won’t flinch and the gauge will continue to fill up for a longer time.
Tumblr media
Iai Spirit Slash: R2 after Special Sheathe
Iai Spirit Slash costs one Spirit Gauge Level but deals massive damage. Use R2 to initiate it. If you land the hit as the monster attacks on this, you won’t flinch, and your Spirit Gauge will not decrease.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Switch Axe‘s new addition is Power Axe Mode. Mash circle while in axe mode to perform some wild swings. After doing so press triangle to go into Power Axe mode, which increases your damage output while in axe mode.
Tumblr media
Like the hammer, the switch axe also gets a new Slinger Burst attack. Press L2 after certain attacks in axe mode to initiate a powerful version of the slinger shot that is more likely to make monsters flinch. Keep in mind that of course you need Slinger ammo.
Tumblr media
Sword and Shield gets several new additions to its moveset. The first is the Switch Slinger Burst Aim similar to other aim switches for the other weapons with L2 and R3.
Claw Evade Attack: With weapon unsheathed, evade into a monster and press L2
Tumblr media
Perfect Rush: Backstep, Triangle/y (Immediate), Triangle/Y, Triangle/Y, Triangle/Y
Backstep by pressing Circle/B after dodging forward, or hold back on the stick and press Circle/B. Then, immediately press Triangle/Y to start Perfect Rush.
Time the next three Triangle/Y presses when your hunter glows red. The controller will also vibrate when the time is right.

Now, this is how I wanted to start my morning with some new footage for Monster Hunter World: Icebourne details with the new weapon upgrades. So far my buddy and I have been constantly looking up details on Icebourne on the daily. Today Capcom has released 3 videos talking about each class and your Beast gamer is going to go through each, so join me!
MHW Icebourne Heavy Weapons:
youtube
(applause) BRAVO!! Good show so far. We got to see all the heavy weaponry with all the glory of new moves. Honestly, I am not much of a heavy weapons user with only using the Great Sword. What caught my eye in this video was how sweet the Hammer looks with the new upgrades. I might have to invest in the hammer soon because I definitely want to give these monsters a good knock out!
Hot damn, can we talk about what is going on with the Heavy Bowgun? A sniper attachment feels kind of overpowered even when it is overpowered already. I know a few people are going to have some fun with that.
#gallery-0-10 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 16%; } #gallery-0-10 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Next Stage: Light Weapons!
youtube
Oh wow, the light weaponry is quite impressive. If I had to pick I would go back to Long Sword with that new slash attack going right through enemies and then countering with the jump slash. Yup, I will have to do some heavy practicing to get the timing just right. My homie Crystalline needs to see what she can do now with the Dual Blades because now you can be a slash dancer with accurate damage!
#gallery-0-11 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-11 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-11 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-11 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Stage 3: Technical Weapons
youtube
This is my area of expertise as I am an Insect Glaive user. With what I saw I could not help but scream like a crazed BTS fan at a concert! That dart dive attack with some new maneuvers as you use the clutch claw is fantastic. The hunting is quite adorable with his echo attack and now getting buffed while running through bubbles? I see what you did there. The bow with a mid-air attack makes Legolas look like an amateur. The charge blade is favored by my homie Fressh_Prin3_ and he went crazy already with the new blade spin moves turning the monster into a pizza pie.
#gallery-0-12 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-12 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 16%; } #gallery-0-12 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-12 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Beastly After Thought:
I am all in no question and I am looking forward to the expansion coming out this fall. Oh man, this was too much for me to take in at once and I can’t wait to get home and get more practice in. If you want to get your copy or have not picked it up at all you can pick it up here! If you want to team up some time on Monster Hunter World before the big release. Definitely message me on twitter and we can meet in the gathering hall! Get ready the Icebourne expansion drops on September 6th, 2019. – Beast Out –

In this MHW Iceborne: Everything We Know article we’ll catch you up with all the new details revealed about the expansion, from pricing to new locales and armor.
MHW Iceborne: Everything We Know, New Monsters, New Locale, New Elements!

September 6th, 2019 (PS4, Xbox One)
Winter 2019 (PC)
Price:
For existing owners, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is available as digital DLC for MSRP $39.99 / €39.99.

For newcomers, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition containing both the main game and the Iceborne expansion is available to preorder at retail and will be available for purchase digitally at launch for MSRP $59.99 / €59.99.
At North America retail only, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition Deluxe option that also includes the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Deluxe Kit DLC comes in a Steelbook for MSRP $79.99.
MHW Iceborne Features
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is a paid expansion comparative in size to previous “G Rank” and “Ultimate” categories. This time around, players can expect a new location called Hoarfrost Reach that features freezing temperatures and contrasts with the jungle-like setting of the Ancient Forest.
Massive Volume of Content – Iceborne builds on every aspect of MHW with a wealth of new challenges and surprises.
New Story Introduces Hoarfrost Reach Locale – Picking up the plot from MHW, hunters will travel to a snow-covered terrain which progressively expands with the story, eventually becoming the largest region in MHW so far.
New and Returning Monsters – The new locale is home to brand new frigid climate foes as well as returning fan favorites joining the Monster Hunter: World lineup. Leading the pack is the new flagship monster Velkhana, an elder dragon with powerful ice attacks that is a pervasive threat in the new story.
Master Rank difficulty option – A brand-new quest tier above High Rank that makes new and existing monsters more ferocious than ever.
Added Gameplay Mechanics Deepen Combat – Options for the Slinger tool have been added including a Clutch Claw grapple move and Flinch Shot that stuns monsters. With the new ability to use the Slinger while the main weapon is drawn, new strategies and opportunities are available for combat.
Expanded Weapon Options – Each of the 14 weapon types will get new combos and new elements, offering new depth to master.
New Gear and Items to Craft – Added monsters means hunters will have new materials from which to craft equipment as they take on new quests and challenges throughout Hoarfrost Reach.
Hoarfrost Reach
The new location looks absolutely gorgeous and highly detailed, with monster and hunter tracks trailing paths on the snow. It also brings the possibility of Hazards such as freeze being introduced as a mechanic, which we would love to see be combated by the new, warmer-looking armor.
A new item “Hot Pepper” will be used to make hot drinks to combat the frost, much like the Chillshroom was used for Cold Drink. Players can also opt to get into “Hot Springs” – as long as they are willing to share the bath with some monkeys!
A new locale also means new Endemic Life, so prepare your capture net as you’ll be hunting for Stonebills and Rime Beetles. Small monsters confirms a new type of wingdrake called Cortos.
Iceborne Progression and Itemization
Monster Hunter World’s endgame became about Tempered and Arch-Tempered Monsters dropping materials for powerful Gamma versions of existing armor sets, so we are extremely excited to see the new Master Rank and its effects on existing monsters.
Players can expect to see new materials, which in turn means a whole new sets of armors and weapons, likely tailored to counter Hoarfrost’s cold and to power Hunters to unexpected levels. Augmentation and Decorations could also be enhanced with this expansion, so existing gear could still remain powerful and help new players catch up to the new content and enter endgame Master Rank.
Based upon previous free DLC, if we expect a conservative Alpha and Beta set for each new monster, we are looking at (in the very least) 10 completely new armor sets. Assuming each monster will provide just one new weapon of each type, this would also add 70 new weapons. This is before considering the impact on Palico Armor, Charms, Decorations and potential Item Crafting.
For new players, a bundled version of the game is being sold for USD 59.99 which means we expect to see a combination of Event Quests that cater to both newbies and veterans alike. This will breathe new life into the multiplayer component and the leveling up of old monsters could enhance the appeal of returning to older hunts and now-obsolete monsters.
Iceborne Mechanics
The “Hot Drink” and “Hot Springs” hint at an environmental hazard of freeze, but that’s not where mechanic changes end. Capcom is leveling up their Slinger game to bring something fans had been daydreaming about: Clutch Claw. This special grapple will allow you to grapple to a monster and get up close and personal and seems to count as an on-demand mount. We do not know the specifics of how this will work: Will it be for any monster?  Will it be only to specific parts of the monster? Whatever they do with this, it is a brilliant idea that we cannot wait to see in action.
That said, the most salient point to me was by far the mention of a new Element and upcoming new moves for ALL weapon types. This is an exciting development and some of the confirmed new moves are Bowgun Evade Reloads, Power Shots on Great Swords, and grapple-chaining for Dual Blade users. This will significantly impact the way weapons are perceived by the player-base as it has a chance to bring all weapon types into the “in range” fold, and might even convert some weapon users to a new type.
The official press release also promises “Iceborne continues the skill-based progression and robust crafting system found in World“. This means we can expect to see new Skills. This will inevitably change the way we approach Builds and likely have an effect on base game, so we are very excited to see more.
Get Over Here!!
Meet the new Iceborne Monsters
Let’s start where everyone wants to get to, the Elder Dragon Velkhana. This icy new monster seems to be somewhere between a Rathalos and a Legiana, and will be the main antagonist of the expansion, in the way that Nergigante was to the original launch. As such we can expect the monster to appear after some story progression only, and its gear to be some of the best in the game.
Banbaro is a Brute Wyvern monster coming with the expansion that was featured prominently in the trailer and looks kick-ass. Featuring large antlers and a furry coat to withstand the cold, this monster will hurl boulders and even trees at approaching hunters, rampaging through the landscape.
Beotodus is a snow-shark of sorts that can swim freely through the ground and emerge for agile and devastating takedowns. It inhabits areas where snow is deep, which slows hunter movement. Most likely a Piscine Wyvern, hunters can use Sonic Bombs to force it to surface.
Nargacuga is a returning Flying Wyvern characterized by stalking and stealth attacks. Since this is a prominent monster, we expect to see it after some initial introductions to the area, and likely as a predator hunting other monsters.
Small monsters confirmed include the wingdrake-like Cortos and the herbivore Popo.
Preparing for Iceborne
We expect we’ll be seeing more information about Iceborne around E3 and Gamescom, but players can start the hype train by jumping on an Arch-Tempered Nergigante hunt for a limited time from May 11th UTC. Defeating this ultimate challenge will yield the powerful Nergigante γ (gamma) armor. In addition, a dynamic theme showcasing the lethal monster complete with custom ravaged system icons and the main game’s theme “Stars at Our Backs” as background music is now available for sale digitally on PS4™ for MSRP $2.99 / €2.99.

BETA Weapon impression thing for posterity more than anything else, as such it’s a readmore to avoid spam lol.
Great Sword: My poor baby. Alright, so GS got a couple new toys, namely a shoulder tackle that can interrupt most actions to skip you ahead in the “charge” order, and a third charge attack.
But honest to god it just doesn’t feel on par with the improvements made to the other weapons, and the third charge is awkward. It’s cool, it hits REALLY hard, but there was a fluent motion to the 2nd charge. The 2nd charge felt like a stronger charge attack and had that awesome (optional) sweeping slash after it landed that did THE SAME damage as the 2nd charge (resulting in big damage and good feelings for all).
The third charge is isolated from all the fluent motion of the previous 2 charges (and sweeping slash). Isolated, it feels pretty alright, but it being the 3rd charge instead of some R2+triange+circle new super move kind of ruins the flow.
The first strike of the new charge attack does pitiful damage, the second strike does UNGODLY damage. But there’s no follow up swipe and getting to the 3rd charge requires (at best) spamming shoulder tackle awkwardly until you do it and (at worst/best for damage) doing ALL 3 charges back to back WITHOUT using the 2nd charge swipe and dedicating 25 seconds to this entire endeavor.
It just feels... not great. I think if it was a new super move that you could go directly into (like wyvern fire R2+Triange+Circle) it’d feel better simply because it’s got terrible flow with the other great sword attacks.
The weapon still feels alright, but it doesn’t feel as meaty as it used to and the new charge is kind of crap. The tackle’s cool. I like having options and the tackle is basically a free fluid motion attack to skip to whatever move you want to in your combo.
Sword & Shield: HOLY COW THEY MADE SNS FEEL SO MUCH DIFFERENT WITH MINIMAL CHANGES.
So basically the charge attack where you jump back and charge a jumping slash became an ACTUAL mounting attack and propels you into the air to hit again.
Really that one new move made SNS feel so much more aerial, mobile, and devastating. It's amazing.
Dual Blades: Feels like Dual Blades. Honestly I had to look up what was new because it feels just as simple as it always has. Hit the monster, activate demon mode, use the demon mode rapid slash combo. It does a lot of elemental/status so it's good. But it feels almost exactly the same as it used to to me, and the playstyle still isn't remotely interesting to me. It's fine/good. Not for me though.
Long Sword: HOLY COW LS GOT HYPE. LS was one of my first mains, but I fell out of favor of it in 4U/Gen. The new moves are so hype though, it's nuts. I built up to red and found out you can just SPAM the new "stab and anime slash" attack like crazy for like 40 seconds.
If you do that it's a little one note-y but it just feels so darn good. And the rest of the moveset is still pretty good so having a "rush and spam" phase doesn't feel like it ruins the rest of it. LS is just so hype to use now.
Hammer: Hammer got more flashy, and the power-charge buff that changes your combos into more flashy-higher-damage combos is pretty cool too. If anything I'm just glad it got more flashy because it makes it more interesting to new hunters. Hammer, once upon a time, was my main, and I don't feel like I see as many hammers now-a-days because everyone is busy shoving charge blade and insect glaive in my face.
I'm hopeful that the new "SPINNY AIR HAMMER SLAM" and other hammer gems will entice players to play hammer some more. I certainly enjoyed playing it more.
Hunting Horn: COOL! The new hunting horn is built around making songs much easier to stack and play in a way that lets you focus on hitting the monster without coordinating your pounding with song prep. It 'feels' like it naturally pushes horn users to actually hunt instead of feeling like they need to sit in the back like a bard (Newsflash, that's not how any weapon works, please stop sitting in the back yelling "I'm the support" that's not how horn works).
It pushes you to actually hunt, which should put a small dampening on "support horn" users and instead have people play the weapon more correctly.
That's good stuff, and it's really fun to boot! I almost made it my main, so it'll probably be my main melee in World.
Lance: They upgraded the charge attack, added a super shield defensive move, and added shield-dash and triple-injection-stab which suddenly made lance RIDICULOUSLY mobile in the right hands.
Surprising that the slowest moving weapon can become so mobile in a few upgrades. It's pretty interesting to see, and pretty fun to play (though I seem to get drunk on power and start shield dash triple stabbing like mad in a reckless and dangerous way).
Pretty darn cool.
Gunlance: THEY ADDED A HEAVY COMBO INTO PILE ATTACK AND THAT'S ALL WAS NECESSARY.
I *think* the quick reload didn't use to reload the entire clip? So maybe that's an upgrade? But really the addition of a heavy combo pile attack just made gunlance feel like a DPS hose. You just pour pain out of that thing, it's amazing.
Switch Axe: Switch Axe fell out of favor with the addition of Charge Blade, so in World they made Switch Axe like 10x as flashy as it used to be.
All in all, good additions, good tweaks, and now Switch Axe feels quite a bit better than it used to.
The infinite axe slap was made easier to access (from what I remember), the sword got a buff'd up mode that comes from repeated attacks, the elemental discharge can now pseudo-mount you to the monster for bonus damage, and the sword got some super flashy combos added.
All in all SA got some nice updates that make it a lot more fun to wield.
Charge Blade: I don't care.
Okay, the new things are nice. My first hunt was garbage because it's a little unintuitive to figure out how to power up your shield/sword outside of looking it up in the hunter notes (It 'makes sense' but it feels terrible the first few times).
The new additions are neat. Specifically, I like being able to power up my sword so that sword and shield mode becomes a viable option instead of just using Axe when I can and unloading phials constantly.
It feels pretty good like this. I still harbor terrible feelings towards Charge Blade simply because it came out overtuned intially and I had to deal with hundreds of hunts with CB users who don't know what the heck they are doing but since they seem to do big damage thanks to the elemental discharges and phials they think it's fine.
It got tedious, not as tedious as dealing with inexperienced "Vault vault vault vault" IG users, but still.
I lost the thread there so tl;dr, the additions are cool, I like powering up the sword, I hope we don't have another entire game where everyone plays CB poorly and refuses to use any other weapons.
Insect Glaive: That sure is IG.
Since 'styles' aren't a thing anymore, I'm glad IG got some more identity put into it thanks to the aerial 'puff' move and self propelled combos in the air.
Now only a few weapons are actively 'aerial' and IG deserves to be the 'most' aerial. They did a good job of it. No complaints.
Light Bowgun: The bowguns as a whole just feel so much better because they've been adjusted for controllers. Shields are more valuable and useful, aiming feels great, mobility is MILES above what it used to be.
LBG specifically, it benefits from all the upgrades, but I don't really like the new mines special ammo. I really hope there are other special ammos for LBG because I really, really don't like this one.
Stop shooting, run up, plant mines, back up and continue shooting? No thanks. I know some people like them so that's great! Just really throws me off my tempo to the point where I just stopped using them.
Heavy Bowgun: HOLY COW. So it benefits from all the same things as LBG which I admit I didn't go into but here's some of it.
All ammo is loaded at once instead of needing switched out between shots, mobility is godlike even for HBG, shields work better since you can move/aim independently, aiming feels better etc.
The special ammos feel great for HBG, though the sniper shot feels undertuned compared to the gatling gun. It does amazing damage, but it feels like it can't match/outdo the gatling and it's the harder special ammo to efficiently use?
The harder to maximize ammo can't reach a point that outdoes the easier ammo? That feels off.
HBG feels so good that it's going to be my first main in World, so that should say something about it. It's worth mentioning that a lot of this comes down to all the ammo types feeling more viable than they used to be.
HBG used to be PIERCE and only PIERCE, but now it honestly feels like anything is viable and seeing gunners use a plethora of options instead of just one sounds like it might become the norm.
Bow: Feels alright, I like the new super shot a ton. Otherwise it feels pretty normal, charge a shot and follow it up with a quick shot.
I still feel like bow shouldn't be the "go-to" link between ranged and melee, LBG and HBG feel so much better to me, but of course that's opinion.

Quick Tips for New Players pt. 2
You can roll through roars. Each monster type has different timing and will require a bit of practice to get it right but once you do it'll make fights a cakewalk.
To be fair you actually CAN roll through some lesser attacks but it takes practice to get the frames right. No, this isn't like Dark Souls where rolling through everything makes you invulnerable. Take some time to see which attacks you can safely roll through.
Every monster attack is heavily telegraphed and if you pay attention you can completely avoid all their attacks. For example right before Rathian does her air flip to hit you with her tail she will crouch lower, her roar will be a guttural growl and then she'll jump.
Every monster except for Bazelguese and Deviljho (correct if wrong) sticks to a certain path and area. As you get familiarized with the game you'll learn where they hang out and which camps to spawn in.
Gunlance users and HBG users. For the love of all that is sane please be considerate of your partners! When a Gunlance user uses Wyvern's Fire or an HBG user fires cluster bombs it sends your partner's flying. Not only will it prevent someone from attacking a monster and doing more damage to it it will also stagger a player and will prevent them from evading an attack and that could cause them to cart. The fault is all yours. So be mindful of cluster bombs and Wyvern's Fire. Don't be that person that spams that shit without regard.
Flashpods are only effective three times during the fight on tempered monsters. It's best to save them for when the monster is limping away to its nest where things can get super risky and hectic. Looking at you, Kushala.
Make use of the training room. It's fantastic! Spend some time labbing a weapon and get a feel for it. Also any items you use there will not be consumed so go ahead and test out a build and use some demon juice or powder or what have you to see how much damage you're doing.
Every weapon is capable of inflicting status effects (poison, paralysis, sleep, blast) it's just that some have an easier time doing it and with more consistency. For ranged weapons the best option is the Light Bowgun. For bladed weapons it's the Dual Blades. But even the painfully slow Great Sword can inflict ailments.
Speaking of ailments. Every time you poison, sleep, paralyze or add blast to a monster its resistances to that ailment go up. It doesn't mean you won't be able to do it again, it just means each time it gets a status effect it'll take more hits than the last time to get the effect. There are ways to make it easier like charms or decorations or you can eat for Felyne Specialist at the canteen.
Speaking of the canteen, if you scroll all the way to page 4 you'll have 6 slots to make your own menu. This allows you to save menus that have Food Skills you wanna make use of during a quest. Oh and FYI the "daily" skills ain't daily. They change every time you spawn back into Astera. I have no idea why they chose daily.
You can cancel any healing or buffing in case you need to get the fuck outta dodge or avoid an attack. Just roll. If you do it early enough the item won't be consumed.
When you heal using a potion or mega potion your character wipes their mouth. You can cancel that animation by rolling as soon as your health bar has recovered. Ain't much but it sure as shit could save your ass.
Lance users please stop "running over" your partners when y'all are attacking a monster. See #5 for reasons why you should cut that shit out. Now!
Low Rank and early High Rank players should definitely take advantage of festivals. Not only because of the events but because during festivals, up in the Gathering Hub, the canteen will have a special platter which is guaranteed to give you more health and stamina. You can only get it up at the Gathering Hub.
Do not throw away, sell or trade decorations when you start out in High Rank. Every decoration is useful and you never know how you'll change your playstyle in the future. Some of these are extremely hard to come by so keep them. Once you've established yourself a little better and are holding about 500 Palico Rally decos then you can trade them.
Hold off on trading Gleaming Stones at the smelder. I highly suggest you augment your armor first. I know it's tempting but these are a bit of a pain to come across and you REALLY will need augmented armors for end game and especially for when Iceborne drops.
Augmentation is unlocked the very second you get you hands on a Hero Streamstone or a Sullied Streamstone. Just do some tempered investigations, either threat level 2 or 3. Chances of getting one or the other are strictly RNG based. There is no way to know if you'll get it. Just keep at it and eventually one will drop.
The Siege of Kulve Taroth is super fun and can be done as soon as you're done with the main storyline. Not only do you get some really neat weapons but you can also make KT's Alpha, Beta and Gamma armors (I suggest the Beta and Gamma). Once you crafted the armor you want I suggest selling all of her materials for Zenny (the game's currency). You always end up with a bunch of materials and they sell for high easily netting you over a million. Just don't sell her gems.
With the exception of KT you should never sell any monster materials especially hard to come by pieces like tails and gems and plates. You never know which weapon or charm or armor piece you may need in the future.
If you wanna join a quest I highly advice you avoid any that have been ongoing for more than 8 minutes. Once the quest hits 10 minutes and you join you won't get any rewards. Unless you don't care for getting rewards, in that case join whenever the heck you want.
Deviation is the recoil or kick from each trigger pull. Recoil allows you to move as you shoot. All rapid fire ammo (the ammo with a white arrow pointing up) benefits from this. 3 Recoil Suppressor mods are mandatory for rapid fire ammo. You only really wanna do this for LBG. No matter how high the Deviation is it's super quick to adjust to and frankly after a few quests you won't even notice it. The wording in this game can be frustratingly confusing.
Insect Glaive users should also upgrade their kinsects along with the Glaive. Make sure you pair up the right kinsect with the right Glaive for maximum efficiency. Imma save you a lot of time and headaches. Grancathar III, Whispervesp III, and Pseudocath III are the best ones. All the others really suck. The kinsect from the Final Fantasy questline is absolute shit until you upgrade it.
If you're looking to hunt a specific monster with other players just hit Join a Quest, Respond to SOS and scroll down to Target and choose the monster you need. Some are easier to get than others but keep trying.
If you're going to join Low Rank quests don't be that asshole that never actually helps and just wants to show off. Actually help the host. Debuffing yourself is stupid as fuck.
It may feel a little intimidating at first but the hud has all the information you need. Pay close attention to it especially during a quest.
When you hover over a quest all the information about it is laid out right in front of you. It will tell you the time limit, reward, small monsters in the area, will say if it's a slaying, hunting or capturing quest so be sure to read everything carefully so you're prepared.
As you hunt monsters your Hunter's Notes get updated. Check back every once in a while to see what new info it has to offer.
Yeah, the game autosaves frequently but it's never a bad thing to manually save. I've had the game freeze and crash on me while I tried to join a game.
I highly suggest you get very well acquainted with the dive dodge. It will save your life! Remember, it can be done while running AWAY from a monster but it has to be within reach.
Some attacks will knock you down and if you don't press any buttons you'll just lay there for a few seconds. This can be super useful to avoid a fast follow up attack as NOTHING will touch you while you lay there. As you get familiar with the monsters and their attacks you'll learn when to get up and run and when to just lay there for a few seconds longer so that the attack completely whiffs.
HBG users, yeah you can put shield mods. In fact, it's kind of a really good idea to do so because putting away that weapon is painfully slow. However, you only really need just 1. Literally 1 is enough.
There can only be three monsters per map. Every time one leaves the area it's replaced by another. Do keep an eye on this HR as the missing monster can be replaced by Deviljho or Bazelguese.
Adamant Pills cure Guard Down.
Demon Powder, Might Seed, Adamant Seed and Hardshell Powder last for 3 minutes. Adamant Pill and Might Pill last for 20 seconds. Armorskin, Mega Armorskin, Mega Demondrug and Demondrug last until quest completed or you faint. Dash Juice lasts for 4 minutes. Also Might and Adamant Seeds, Adamant and Might Pills cancel each other out so you can only consume one or the other, can't eat both a seed and a pill.
Your buffs and debuffs show up next to your name on the screen. You can tell when a buff is about to go out when it starts rapidly blinking. Same for the powered up Kinsects. When they're about to go out they'll blink rapidly.
When you mount a monster quickly avert your eyes to the top right corner of the screen the game itself will tell you when to brace, attack or move. Don't look at anything else! Eventually you'll learn when to do what but it's just safer to watch the commands.
Your character doesn't level up in the traditional sense, your gear does. A level 29 could have far better gear and builds than a level 49. Don't let the Hunter Rank fool you.
Kelbi horns are fantastic items to have. Find a Kelbi with big horns and smack it in the face with a blunt attack, for example the shield of the Sword and Shield, to make the horns fall off.
Wanna talk to one person in particular in the session. Press options, triangle, hover over their name, click on chat, open the chat option and type.
Listen, no Elder Dragon in MHW (pre Iceborne) is weak to the dragon element. None. Taking a weapon with dragon element into an ED fight is just going to prolong the fight. You can get the Elder Seal effect by the dragon pods that they drop themselves. If you have the space for it the Elderseal decoration can up the effect of these pods. Dragon element weapons against Elder Dragons = horrible idea.
