#a few of the relevant libraries have since abolished the escalating late-book fines so maybe i can return the books there at least

I have a habit of taking books from bookcrossing, fully intending to read them, and then... well, not. I'm sure I'll return them at some point...
(I was feeling awkward about that until my grandmother died and we had to do something with her huge library, so we kept the books we actually wanted, gave away the books that our friends and/or her relatives were interested in, and most of the rest was carted off to bookcrossing shelves. Literally, in a grocery cart. It took several trips.
They were mostly gone within days - within hours in some cases - and I decided that my debt to bookcrossings had been paid off for several years in advance and I can return to taking the books and maybe reading them eventually.)
do you have a bad habit of buying books, fully intending to read them, and then not?
#I generally don't *return* the book on time#because “oh right I need to get around to reading it”#“I'll get right on that soon”#[a year later] “...SHIT”#this is why I never take out physical books anymore#<- prev tags on libraries that i agree with#except sometimes i just forget i had the book at all#so it's like five or ten years later and i'm worried about fines#and wondering if i'm better off just keeping the book by this point because the fine could be more than i can afford#a few of the relevant libraries have since abolished the escalating late-book fines so maybe i can return the books there at least#...if i ever get back to that city anyway#with bought books it was usually that i read them once and then forgot i had them#once or twice i ended up buying the same book again by accident#bookcrossing#actually not sure if those specific locations were explicitly bookcrossing or just places to leave books or something#i'm not very familiar with bookcrossing as an official project#there are probably other tags i could have added but there's already a lot so that's it i guess
