Fanfiction updates and excerpts 02.16.24

I think I am getting better after my burnout, which is nice! And I also finished all my main projects, so that's also nice. Thank you for all the kind feedback and well wishes I've gotten, I appreciate them loads.

My life seems to get steadily busier in spring. I'm observing Lent from 02.14 to 03.28 together with my fiancé, who is more religious/spiritual than me, but I enjoy the mental challenge. Our main way of fasting is restricting the internet outside of work, so I won't be online as much. But I still copy paste comments/messages with me, so I can answer when offline.

The upcoming projects are a few old ideas and a few new ones. Lots of Micah, as always. NSFW content under the cut.

Main works: 

Salt 

Colm/Micah, sugar daddy precanon AU, dark content. Currently at part 5, opening Arc 2: "Christmas with the O'Driscolls". Soon readers can look forward to heavy bondage, accidental retraumatization, a murder attempt, spanking, sounding, needle play and piercing play. And Owen O'Driscoll delivering the line "As a boy, I used to weep in butcher shops," while sneaking into Colm's bedroom at night to ... check out Micah. Here is an excerpt from chapter 6:

"Don't be scared," Colm said, choosing the moment when Micah steeled himself to press his nail into the nipple. He imagined the soft, pink space giving in to his finger, all those sensitive nerve endings giving a way for him, engulfing him like a cunt. The steel mechanism kept on making a slight scraping sound when Micah pulled at them, until he drew his legs up, spreading his knees while his ankles remained bound tight together. "You want more?" 

"I'll kill you," Micah mumbled. 

"Yeah, you want more." Colm kissed the skin between Micah's cheek and ear, then finished the remaining shirt buttons. He tugged the fabric to the side so that he could kiss the boy's shoulder, until the hunching made his collarbone jut forward. It looked delicious, and Colm sank his teeth into the bone until Micah whimpered. 

The Lost and the Lethal

A motorcycle gang AU set around 1990-2010, like in GTA 4: The Lost and the Damned, with the RDR2 main cast as bikers and their horses as smaller pets. While out riding, Arthur gets tasked with recovering Micah, who has been missing from the clubhouse for a few days. After finding him in a lethal condition, there's a race to get him to a hospital, with some help from fellow members and a threat from a rival MC gang. My first attempt at whump with an VdL vs O'Driscoll MC fight in the middle. Kind ZanaZira has been helping me out with this, she is a godsend!!!

Micah came and went to the clubhouse as he pleased, unless forced to stay due to an ankle monitor. He guarded his bike like Gollum with the Ring (a reference he wouldn't get despite the gang's frequent film marathons), but it had been parked in the clubhouse garage for a couple of days. Arthur had even gotten a chance to study the red skull details amid the black paint, and read the edgy quote about vengeance scratched into the fender of the bike.

"Just try to find him, that's all I ask," Dutch said.

"Alright," Arthur grumbled, not looking forward to the shift from open roads to city alleys, the car queues, and the trucks riding his ass like randy dinosaurs. Worst of all was the smog trapped between the tall buildings, tickling the scar tissue inside his lungs. "I'll do it."

The Sweet Escape

My take on the Morbellicious "Blessed are the Meek?" scenario. Arthur has Micah where he wants him, jailed in Strawberry, soon to be hanged. Threats, among other things, are exchanged through the window bars, while Arthur is barely concealed by the nightly rain fog, and Micah's cellmate is being an O'Driscoll flavor of bastard.

"I could use a toothpick, and ... " The hand found him and wrapped around his shaft, pulling him out from the fabric. The following silence made Arthur look down, focusing on Micah's expression behind the bars. Micah was staring at his cock. Arthur flushed; was there something wrong with it? The air was cold, and he was too uneasy to be fully erect, but ...

A whistle from the corner of the cell. "Holy shit, that's a huge dick."

Micah whipped around, "Shut the fuck up, O'Driscoll!" His grip on Arthur tightened like a vice, and he groaned like some sort of demonic background choir to Micah's shouting. "One more word and I'll crack you skull open like I did with your friend!"

"Hey, no fighting down there!" a lawman called from upstairs. Arthur and Micah froze. The O'Driscoll held a finger to his lips, and then fluffed his pillows as if getting comfortable before a show.

CRACK. Arthur has to take Micah to the vet to get him fixed, because his kittens are overflowing in the camp. My notes are all there, I just need to write it in one go, as I do with crack fics.

Say that we're sweethearts again

Kind of a sequel to "Through the Wilderness" set 20-30 years later. Old!Micah/old!Arthur. An AU where (low honor) Arthur is tasked to find (low honor) Jack Marston. There's reason to believe (high honor??) bounty hunter!Micah is after him. Having had a stormy relationship ending in Dutch's death, the reunion is tense, and Jack doesn’t help matters. Lol, I loved playing low honor creepy Jack ...

WARNING: REALLY DARK, HORNY CONTENT. O'Driscoll Gang/Micah. Set in my MC AU, extremely dubcon biker gangbang, O'Driscoll Thrash Party … I wanna write Micah trying to steal from the O'Driscolls, getting chased by motorcycles, then waking up in a concrete garage of some sort. Will include duct tape, drugs, vibrators, boot worship, overstimulation, alligator clamps, spider gags, watersports, the writer slobbering all over the biker wear … Colm is overseeing the whole thing and being his beyond creepy self. Colom boy, I love youuuuu (as a fiction character yada yada)

it is 5 in the morning i haven’t slept and i have lots of things to say about the gta v endings!!!

obviously i played all three, and here’s the thing: A and B are fake. that’s not controversial, i’m pretty sure its accepted fact that the devs treat C as the “real” “canon” ending.

but with that being so obvious, what’s the point of including the other endings at all? they’re shockingly short, like the same length as franklin’s misc assassination missions for lester throughout the game, and shockingly devoid of that kind of closure you’re expecting from a story with this many moving parts. franklin kills either trevor or michael, and the antagonists of the game just… give up? like mike and trev were some sort of all-encompassing hot and cold weather system, and all it took was the removal of one of them to prevent a federal agency and private militia and organized crime-sized tornado. silly, deceptively easy, and leaving a bad taste in your mouth.

but— my hot take is that A and B aren’t necessarily “fake”. as in, not meaningless or trivial by any means. i think that something is lost in not playing A and B before C, in fact.

because this game is about franklin clinton. it’s also about michael and trevor, sure, but only in the context of franklin becoming entangled in their lives. franklin isn’t necessarily a “blank state” at the beginning, but he is written with as minimal bias as possible in order to serve as the stand-in for the player as they navigate the story. he serves as the middle ground between the two opposing forces of michael and trevor, but looking past that, he is also at a crossroads in his life. frankin wants to become something else, be “somebody”, but isn’t sure what that means yet.

to that end, franklin never says no. he is open to helping every stranger, killing any target, volunteering for every job, jumping off any building as long as someone offers an opportunity for clarity, prosperity, or self-fulfillment at the end of the trip. franklin goes along with michael’s mid-life crisis and becomes his protege because he is searching for purpose and a clearer picture of himself. he buries his reservations about trevor, the feds, weston, etc, because he is taught by michael that they can be useful in obtaining what he wants. and when he gets it, the thing he thought he needed, the thing that michael told him would save his life, he is still stuck. he lives in an empty mansion, having lost his connection with anyone he ever loved from his previous life. nothing has gotten better.

if you play ending A or B, franklin moves like an automaton through the final mission, offering short condolences or platitudes to his victims while remaining otherwise numb about what he is doing. it’s second nature to him now. michael, and by extension trevor, has honed him into a vessel for greed and carnage and betrayal, a shell of who he once was. during michael’s killing, he will admit to being used and manipulated by him, but it won’t fix anything now. it won’t make him better. endings A and B take away franklin’s soul and leave him with only vague copies of the men he followed after.

the deception of A and B, of course, comes in assuming that in franklin’s crossroads scenario, he only had two possible paths in front of him. which makes ending C, on the other hand, feel like a warm hug.

franklin rejects the paradigm he has been forced into. he regains his agency. he rejects his tutelage and goes by instinct, an instinct that leads him to— for the first time in the game i believe— ask lamar for a favor. lamar gladly accepts, because he isn’t just a bumbling wannabe who leeches off of his friend’s good will! he’s franklin’s friend, and his generosity reminds franklin of what being a genuine human is like. no paranoia, no lies, no backstabbing, just love. and it turns out, that’s who franklin really is after all!! full of love, and drive, and assertiveness, and commitment to those he cares about.

and of course it rubs off on the old guys, who are counseled away from having each other at gunpoint in a matter of minutes. in ending C, franklin teaches trevor and michael how to survive— and not just survive— how to live. how to stop walking down that horrible road to loneliness and inhumanity, how to trust others and utilize your talents for the vaguest semblance gta has of “the greater good”. the gang gets back together, the bad guys are picked off one by one, and the protagonists walk off into the sunset, having learned and grown in the process. it’s sappy! a hollywood ending covered in sugar.

and that’s why A and B are important to play first in my book. ending C is the payoff for having to first do and witness the thing that will ruin franklin’s life, irreparably, forever. the thing that will take away the rest of who he really is. C without A or B is just a schlocky 80s movie, but all three endings together create a cautionary tale for our little guy to struggle through, and eventually come out the other side truly prosperous, having finally found a way to be happy.

Despite first 2 chapters starting so slow I took me a while to pick back up I’m glad I did continue playing.

Someone asked if I liked gta 5 or rdr2 better and story and character development rdr2 hands down.

Putting this all time favorite games. I gotta see where find copy of rdr1 now

9/10 game gonna cry playing John while I morn for my babygirl Arthur :’)

“Marinette! One of your friends is here!” Her maman’s voice called up the stairs, interrupting a frantic bout of cleaning. She’d lost track of time and put it off until the last minute once again, but at least now her room looked presentable when (or if) the party moved upstairs.

“Coming!” With a few last minute adjustments, she raced down the stairs to see who had arrived first. When she saw her maman chatting away with Alya in the kitchen with her duffel bag, she shook her head with a smile. Who else would’ve showed up an hour early? Her best friend noticed her arrival and grinned.

“Hey, girl! You ready to party it up this weekend?” Alya held out her fist, which Marinette gladly bumped. Before she could respond, her maman cut in.

“Hopefully you’ll remind your friends not to ‘party it up’ too hard, right dear?”

Marinette gave her most winning smile. “Right, we’ll be on our best behavior.”

Her maman seemed dubious. “Even Alix?”

The smile became strained and uncertain. “Y-yes. I’ll do my best.”

With a kiss on her forehead, her maman replied, “That’s all I ask. Have fun, dear.”

Once she left the room, cup of tea in hand, Marinette turned back to Alya. “Did you bring everything you’ll need?”

“Relax, girl. I’m psyched and ready to go for this weekend-long slumber party.”

Doing her best to play the part of the unconvinced friend, Marinette crossed her arms and cocked an eyebrow, though her grin gave her away. “So we aren’t going to have a repeat of last time?”

Alya threw her hands up. “Come on, girl! It was one time. What’s a midnight convenience store run between friends?”

They chatted until the sound of the front door opening drew their attention. Marinette rushed over to greet her guests, only to have Rose rushing to meet her at the same time.

“Marinette! I’m so happy to see you!” She collided with Marinette, ensnaring her in a hug. Over Rose’s head - the bubbly girl being one of few people Marinette was taller than - she saw Juleka give a small smile and a timid wave.

“Rose, Juleka! It’s great you could make it. Did you remember to bring everything?”

Rose nodded enthusiastically in way of response, while Juleka said while reaching into her bag, “We even brought games like you asked…”

“Hang on, don’t tell me what game you brought until everyone gets here. It met all the requirements, right?”

“Mhmm. It works on one of your consoles and we could theoretically do multiplayer on it. Or be fun to watch.”

“Awesome!” She lead her three guests into the living room. “We’ll be sleeping in here tonight since the bakery is closed on Sundays and we won’t have to worry about papa waking us up at four in the morning.”

“Sweet, there’s a little more space down here.” Alya sat down on the couch facing the TV. “Any clue when Mylene and Alix are supposed to arrive?”

Scrolling through her texts, Marinette replied, “Alix is going to be late-”

“-as usual-”

“-but Mylene should be showing up any minute now. Once she’s here we can make some snacks while we wait on Alix.”

Rose, seated next to Alya, bounced up and down on the couch. “And then we can start the gaming marathon!”

“Yup! I just hope we can get through all the games…”

“Don’t sweat it, girl!” Alya leaned back. “I was kinda hoping to play mine after everyone was gone anyway. It wouldn’t be that exciting for everyone, and it’d just get jumbled with too many people around. And it would take awhile to get through.”

She could already guess what Alya had brought, given what had been occupying her free time outside hanging out and her work on the Ladyblog. Before she could dwell on it too much, the door opened once again. Marinette went to get her, the others following shortly after.

“Hello!” Mylene waved with one hand while clutching the strap of her backpack with the other. “Everyone else here?”

“We’re waiting on Alix.” Marinette pointed out the way they came from. “You can drop your stuff off in the living room. We’re going to make some food while we wait.”

They had burned an hour cooking in the kitchen, doing their best to stay out of the way of her parents as they went about running the bakery. By the time the last guest arrived, it was midday and the bakery wasn’t going to be open for much longer anyway. Marinette crowded around the living room table as she considered this. It would probably be best to do Mecha Strike III first then, so papa would be less likely to interrupt for a challenge bout. She loved him to pieces, but maman and him seemed to enjoy butting in when she was trying to have friends over.

“Okay everyone. Pull out the game each of you brought and show it to the rest of us.” Marinette suited action to words by slapping down the Mecha Strike III case as though it was a gauntlet. The groans and grumbling she got from the rest of them was like music to her ears.

“We’re agreed that we’ll deal with Marinette trouncing us for as little as possible?” Alix looked around the table and the rest of the girl squad resolutely nodded back at her, like the judgement of a sage council.

“Oh come on! It isn’t that bad,” Marinette attempted to get their hopes up, secretly relishing the thought of dashing it against the ground.

“Max trained for a year and you tore him apart.”

“Well, duh. Fighting the AI only gets you so far!”

“Whatever, here’s my pick.” Alix tossed her game on top of Marinette’s - Grand Theft Auto. Somehow Marinette wasn’t surprised.

“That game doesn’t have split screen and it’s mostly just messing around. How does that fit the requirements?” Marinette crossed her arms over her chest, still slightly miffed from the resolute dismissal of her choice.

“Oh don’t worry about that, pigtails.” Alix smirked. “I have a plan.”

“Well… okay. Mylene?”

“I, uh, brought a Mario Party.” She began to get quieter as she rambled on. “I don’t have a lot of games and we play it a lot at my house so, I, uh… thought you guys might like it. I know it has a bit of a reputation as a friendship-ended, but still-”

“Chill, girl.” Alya patted her shoulder. “It’ll be fun losing to someone who isn’t Marinette for once.”

Marinette stuck her tongue out at Alya as Juleka gently sat her game, the remake of Resident Evil 2, on the table. When the rest of the girls looked to her for any kind of explanation or defense of it, she simply shrugged and said, “I liked it. Plus, not a lot of split screen horror games, you know? Have to take what I can.”

“Fair enough. What about you, Alya? Still playing those detective games?”

“Of course! Gotta keep my mind razor sharp if I’m going to unravel Ladybug and Chat Noir’s identities.” The aspiring reporter shuffled in place, hands empty as she didn’t reach for her duffle bag. “It’s a computer game though, so I don’t have a physical copy. If you don’t mind, I’ll start downloading it now and we can play it tomorrow.”

“Sure. You know the password and everything so go ahead.” While Alya left the room, Marinette turned to the last member of the group. She never really gamed with Rose before, so she didn’t know what to expect. What she definitely didn’t expect was Dark Souls III. Yet, that was the game Rose was waving above her head excitedly. Her mind reeled for a moment before settling on something to say. “Uh, Rose? Isn’t that also single player? What is everyone else going to do?”

Juleka smiled as she put her arm on Rose’s shoulder. “Watching her get into the zone is something to behold.” Seeing the dubious expression on Marinette’s face only caused her grin to widen. “You’ll see.”

Leaving the matter at that, they settled into place to start their marathon. First up - Mecha Strike III.They were packed tightly on the couch, except for Alix and Rose who preferred the ground anyway. The latter leaned back against her girlfriend’s legs while playing, and the former kept scooting closer and closer to the television as the loses piled up. It only took an hour of easy victories for Marinette before they unanimously decided to not play it again for the rest of the night.

Next up was Grand Theft Auto V. While Alix clambered forward to switch out the games, she explained to them. “Here’s the plan - we’re each going to take turns at it. Our goal is to steal a tank.” She whipped back to look at them, a manic glint in her eyes. “Clearly, since I’m the best at this, I’ll go last to give you all a chance at it before I sweep in.” She brandished the controller. “Who wants first?”

After half an hour of a cycle of spawning, charging into a military base via ramping car, dying, and repeating like the world’s worst version of Valhalla, the controller finally ended up in Alix’s hands. She had spent the entire time smugly commenting on how each person messed up, detailing what they should have done. The next person would take that into account and fail at a completely different obstacle. With a knowing smirk, she turned to everyone else and said, “Now watch the master at work.”

The first step was to get a car, which everyone had accomplished in true GTA fashion by standing in the middle of the road and carjacking whoever stopped to avoid hitting them. Alix stepped onto the road boldly, an admirable start. Instead of slowing, however, she was hit full speed and sent flying by wonky physics. Immediately the screen turned black and white and the text ‘Wasted’ appeared on the screen as her character sailed through the air. There was a moment of stunned silence before everyone (sans Alix) absolutely lost it. She didn’t even look back to hand Marinette the controller, simply thrusting it behind her. After a few more rounds, Alix’s as unlucky as always, the person who ended up winning the challenge was none other than Rose. After a celebratory rampage, she closed the game and they were free to move on to Mario Party.

Looking back, Marinette couldn’t remember much about the two (or was it three?) matches they played, probably because each match had been about an hour long. The turns ran together after a while. They passed by in a blur of competitiveness, fully absorbed with the friendly and eventually not-so-friendly banter. At the end all she could say was that she didn’t win. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mylene took that honor for at least one of the matches, having had the most practice with the minigames and the layout of the maps.

The change from Mario Party to Dark Souls was as sudden as it was jarring, trading bright, cheerful colors for the bleak wastes of a ruined kingdom. It didn’t take long for Marinette to figure out what Juleka had been talking about; immediately, Rose became hyper focused on the game as she laid in front of the television on her stomach, tongue sticking out in concentration as she deftly ducked and rolled away from enemy lunges. Marinette watched carefully, but the first time she saw Rose get hit was about an hour in, long after the fight with the first boss.

When she finally put down the controller, the only thing the rest of them could do was applaud.

Which left the last game of the day, Juleka’s horror game. Fitting, since by this point it was later in the evening, though not quite midnight. Marinette remembered even less of this game, at least partly because of how often she excused herself to the kitchen for any number of excuses - wanting everyone to have full drinks, extra snacks, stretch her legs, whatever she could do. Horror… not her favorite genre of movie or game.

At least I’m not alone, she thought while eating some cookies with Mylene in the kitchen. If the danger was real, it was much easier to handle for reasons even Marinette herself couldn’t wrap her head around. By the time they finally out of excuses, everyone was getting tired and they agreed to turn off the games and go to sleep in the living room. They managed it, even if Alix kept deliberately annoying everyone by asking random inane questions at all hours. Marinette could practically hear Alix’s smirk as she lobbed at pillow at her face. But eventually even Alix got tired and fell asleep, a fitting end to an eventful day.

When Marinette managed to drag herself out of bed, two things became apparent - one, the sun was unfortunately up and preventing her from drifting back to sleep and two, everyone else was gone. It was this second fact that caused Marinette to actually get up rather than stay wrapped up on the floor for a little while longer.

“Hey, girl,” Alya quirked an eyebrow over her toast as Marinette walked into the kitchen. “Pleasant dreams, Sleeping Beauty?”

Deciding that the smell was delightful, Marinette elected to make herself some toast too. “Mhmm.” Once she had her breakfast in front of her, she asked, “Everybody else leave?”

“Yup! They’ve got early plans.” She winked. “But don’t worry, you won’t be getting rid of me that easily. We still have some investigative work to do, if you remember.”

Playing along, Marinette asked, “What’s the case?”

“‘Shadow At Water’s Edge.’”

“Sounds spooky. Thankfully, we can count on each other.” She swallowed the last of her toast and added, “Let’s get to it then. After you, detective.”

The two rushed upstairs, Marinette eager to continue her well deserved break in excellent company. It felt good take a break in fiction - reality was far too strange a place for her anyway.

#1 yes, unless I'm hopelessly stuck, I really try to not use walkthroughs

#2 I think it might actually be 343i, as much as I may complain irl about certain games (halo 5) from them, I've still tried them all, and still play many many halo

#3 untitled goose game, it was a great experience the whole way through

#5 probably GTA, I've played bits and pieces of different GTAs over the years, never bought my own copy, never played it myself

#6 I've never personally played it but i watched a playthrough of "That Dragon Cancer" and man that fucked me up, it was a fantastic game, 100%

#7 metroid prime believe it or not, used to watch my dad play it on the GameCube and whenever he died I could not watch the death cutscene, it was literally the scariest thing I had ever scene in my life, cause I was a little baby bitch boi

#8 I've fallen asleep to Halo 3: ODST many many times all thanks to the smooth jazz and rain

#9 can't say I have one, I really love sound in games

#10 hasn't been many lately but I tried to play fable when I was younger and from what I remember I basically locked the game by killing everything in sight and I haven't played since

#12 I beat 85% spring season in forza in a single day, then it took the rest of the season to finish the daily challenges but I don't think those count

#18 either of the halo wars games, the people online are straight up hard-core and it's not fun at all

#19 it sounds tacky but I think I would love to see a Halo 3 Anniversary as long as it was handled like Halo 2 Anniversary, that is a top tier remaster

Official hunting season for 2018 is long over. With another season in 2019 just around the corner. I visited what was to be the final yard sale of the 2018 season on October 25th 2018. A brave older couple was downsizing and held a yard sale when it was 36 degrees out. Unfortunately, they were not gamers. Nor did they have any games from any kids or grandchildren. They did have some stereo equipment, and a surround sound speaker system. No music, or blu rays either though. The stereo was a shelf system, not a component type unit like I would be looking for to match the Sony TC-WE805S tape deck that I got at the start of the season. An all around bust of a sale for me. I wished them luck and headed on my way.

I closed out the last post with the PS3 find from 09.01.18. Giving me access to HD console gaming. A new era for this Old Nintendo Nerd. I do primarily game at 240p being that NES, SNES and N64 are the consoles nearest and dearest to my heart. GameCube and Wii weigh in at 480p at their absolute best, still falling short of HD. But now, with a PS3, we’ve got 720p gaming (mostly, some is 1080p). I have no problem with collecting a little for this system, I’ve heard good things about Uncharted, The Last of Us, and a smattering of a few other games that I will be looking out for.

Before we get into finds for the last, freakin 5 months, I have sold a couple things since the last post, and I should hope so, since its been forever! Right? Sorry. Life.

I had a bundle of 16 total PS1 games that I let go of. Titles were the likes of Syphon Filter, Driver, Test Drive 5, Rainbow Six, and a smattering of other luke warm titles. I’ve posted all of them up here at one point or another, so you have an idea. They were nothing I’d ever want to play, and since I only paid around $16 total for all of them at $0.99 a piece, I thought if I could average around $2 a pop on eBay id be doing OK doubling my money. They all added up to a value of about $95 on pricecharting. Now granted, that is fantasy prices, even those prices aren’t the prices the sellers MAKE when sold. Ultimately they all went for $52.99 as a lot. After fees and shipping it netted me $38.44, which comes to right about $2.40 each. 40 cents higher than I was hoping to get per game. Not bad!

The end of the last post left us with $9.73. Put that in with the $38.44 for a total of $48.17.

Additionally, I sold a disc only copy of Animal Crossing on eBay that I had laying around for $18.99. This came to $13.58 in pocket after fees and shipping. Tack that on and we now have $61.75 game hunting money moving into this post.

I’ll be honest, it’s been thin, it is cold here in the winter, there are no yard sales through the cold months at all. Places like Arizona or Florida where you could sale year round are lucky. Not here. Even donations to Goodwill slow down significantly as well, making the hunting quite a bit more difficult. I had zero finds for basically all of September. Which was surprising, it is really the last warm month here with temps still reaching 70′s and sometimes low 80s. But it wasn’t until the end of the month I ran across something at the Goodwill.

Disc, case and Manual all in pretty good shape, but nothing to write home about. If it were June and prime hunting season and I’d been getting finds, I probably wouldn’t have bought it.

But I did, and it cost me $3.21. Takes the total down to $58.54.

Next up was the first official game for my new PS3. Again nothing fantastic, but at least it rang up at the DVD price instead of the game price. Saved me $1.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Found 10.04.2018 at Goodwill

Minty fresh.

But, again nothing special, not even a full game. But I sat and played it for an hour anyway. Probably already had $2 worth of fun with the thing. Despite being labeled $5.99, they still only charged me the DVD rate of $1.99. Hah! So, $2.13 out of the till leaves us with $56.41.

The next find was literally the next day. Different Goodwill though.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on PS2 and Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3 - Found 10.05.2018 at Goodwill

This was absolutely minty fresh as well. Both of them were. Discs, cases, and manuals / maps. I wasn’t going to buy San Andreas but when I saw that it was in as good of shape as it was, and had a bonus inside, I couldn’t not get it.

First time I’ve found a game in Goodwill with a Memory Card inside. Those are $8 to $10 each right there, and I am a little short on memory cards, so I had to get it. The game was technically the bonus, I bought it for the memory card. Heh.

Great shape for two Goodwill games, they look brand new. Plus I heard that while GTA V is superior graphically, GTA IV is better with exploration, in that you can enter buildings, and enemy AI is a lot better as well. So I thought, what the hell?

Those two ran $6.42 together taking us to $49.99.

The next find was from 10.15.2018, from Goodwill, another few halfway decent games. Borderlands, Alice, Dante’s Inferno, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3,  and a Disc only copy of Skyrim. It was actually in the same case as Alice, just under the Alice Disc for some reason. I wasn’t arguing with that so I left it there.

PS3 Lot - Found 10.15.2018 at Goodwill

Sucks about the two basically disc only games. Marvel Vs Capcom and Skyrim. One being from Best Buy pre-owned. The other hiding under Alice in the same case. not that I’m complaining about that one. Free game? Nothing wrong with that. How Best Buy even gets disc only copies of stuff is beyond me. Game system trades or returns with games still in them? I wasn’t aware they did pre-owned anything.

In any case... They are all in good shape. Minimal labels and damage.

Especially Alice. I dig the art on this one, and it is in very good condition.

As for Skyrim, well, I had a spare case laying around for FIFA 09, and I figured, why not print out a cover for it. I couldn’t give a shit less about FIFA Soccer. You can see the print lines, but it’ll do to hold the disc.

All of this ran me $12.86 being I paid for four games at $2.99 each plus tax. This takes the hunting money down to $37.13.

Moving into November, I had a spectacular find. At least, for the hunting money total. Not so much on the video game front, because it was just a Blu-Ray movie.

Wing Commander Blue-Ray - Sealed - Found 11.08.2018 at Goodwill

This thing, just looks like cheese from the cover. I picked it up, and immediately put it back down and walked around the corner to where some more shelves are. Then I said to myself you know what? No, let me check that, immediately dismissing something out of hand like that loses people money. Pulled up eBay on my phone and about pooped my pants. A sealed one was listed for $180. I thought that has to be some looney toon’s listing. I kept scrolling and no, used ones were just under $100. Check sold listings and there were real sales for $80+. Suffice to say I bought it, of course. Listed that sucker up, and I was hoping to get over $100 for it since it was sealed, but, there was some damage to the corner. The plastic was not in tact anymore.

This made the listing go for a lot less than $180. However, I was still pleased to see it sell for $85.00. For a $2 item? That’s a home run! After fees and shipping it netted us a nice cool $68.67. To be fair I will pull the money I used to buy it from the game hunting money, it was $2.12 ($1.99 plus tax) dropping us to $35.01. Then, adding $68.67 gives us...

My 8bitdo Pro 2 Review - Part 8 (Recorded Video) (w/ my paper dolls) [Mar 22, 2022]

Hello! Here’s Part 8 of my new 8bitdo gamepad, the Pro 2 Bluetooth Gamepad/Controller! 🎮😁

For this part, I'm going to do a button test once again for my current 8bitdo gamepad, only this time w/ the current firmware already installed (v 1.07) from the previous part.

So, without further ado, let’s get started:

My Experience:

• So far, I enjoyed playing games on different emulators & also PC game(s) (namely GTA V Online) using my new 8bitdo gamepad. Moreover, using D-Pad from Pro 2's gray edition is slowly embraced w/ my left thumb after the departure of my old SN30 Pro+'s G classic edition. Overall, pretty much the same feeling as my old one, but that's v 1.03 firmware. Will the current firmware v 1.07 for the Pro 2 improve my gameplay test? Let's find out in my record video.🙂🎮🖥️

• I'm now at my trusty gamepad-tester website [CLICK ME!] & my Pro 2 gamepad immediately connected via my Ugreen Bluetooth after I press the start button once. That right there is far better ⬆️ over my old SN30 Pro+ gamepad, where I press the start button for about 3 to 5 seconds (as far as I know). Anyways, my Pro 2 is already connected, and so far the face buttons, d-pads & other built-in buttons are all functional as before. The only noticeable changes I've found are the triggers, analog sticks & the turbo function's ring light. Let's bring down the ff:

○ ⬆️ Trigger Buttons: Their now significantly response in the firmware v 1.07 than the v. 1.03. You see, when I go gently pressed either of the two trigger buttons it had a response by a tiny percent, and I tested in GTA V Online during the free roam race when I press gently the car began to move slowly. The same goes for the brake button, I press it very gently & I've seen the red light glows at the vehicle's back.

○ ⬆️ Analog Sticks: Analog sticks, on the other hand, are now optimized, but I noticed that there's a tiny portion of drift when I tap the sticks. Luckily, the tiny drift won't affect my gameplay test, what a relief.

○ ⬆️ Turbo Function's ring light: Finally the turbo function's ring light. When I pressed both the star & B buttons at the same time (or any other buttons), the ring light changes from super-rapid blink to now a slightly slow rapid blink. You know, this is fine, but I prefer the super-rapid blink over the slow one. Otherwise, the turbo function is perfectly fine as usual.

○ (Extra) ⬇️ Start Button: I also noticed that the turn-off button which is the start button is now requiring a longer press than before. For about 5 to 6 seconds? Yeah, I measured it using the stopwatch. Hopefully, the new firmware will fix the longer start button for turning off my Pro 2 gamepad.🔧⚙️

BTW: Both star & back paddle buttons are never present in the gamepad-tester (as always). Somehow, the start button didn't work, because I switch off the shortcut button for XBOX Game Bar which I never use, only for recording anyway. Whereas back paddle buttons, I've never mapped it yet.

My Gameplay test:

• As for my gameplay test, I would say it's significantly improved. I've played all emulator games like Kirby Super Star Ultra (NDS) ⭐, Gran Turismo 1 (PSone) 🚘🚗, Gradius Galaxies (GBA) 🚀, and the aforementioned GTA V Online 🏙️🔫 as well as other emulation games 🎮🖥️. All seem fine without any issues. And as I said, I've slowly embraced the gray edition's D-pad & I'm getting the hang of it. Heck, I even try the turbo function for selected games (namely shoot'em ups) w/ the new slowly rapid blink ring light. Yeah, I prefer the old one though.

• BTW, I forgot to tell ya! This is "Retroarch", my new home for my favorite game emulations! 😁🏠👾 This is basically all in one box. With Retroarch, I could load any games to my heart's content; namely, Nintendo gaming portables (GB, GBC & GBA), Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Sony PlayStation 1 & 2, and more! Pretty much everything in Retroarch, but to do that, it requires instructions & fetching data game files before you played any games you desire.🙂 And your rewarded was this cool PSP/PS3 inspired theme which pretty cool, in my opinion.😎

• My paper dolls want to play games! But, of course! I'll invest two mini controllers for my paper dolls, someday.😊

Overall:

• The v1.07 firmware for my Pro 2 gamepad improves my gaming performance. Although some we're downgraded for start button & rapid blink for the turbo function after updating, so hopefully the next firmware will be addressed two issues I've found. Otherwise, it was a solid promise for my recent 8bitdo Pro 2 gamepad.👌

UPDATE [for Analog Joysticks]: Ummm... About what I said on the tiny portion of joystick drift. Well, I lied & I've seen a little minor problem, but not the majority. You know what, it might be there, but I guess this also should be addressed or waited for another firmware. Right now, I had to think hard on whether should I back to v1.03 by downgrading or maybe not, who knows.😐

It seems like this game is going to be a playable mashup of the movie Zombieland and GTA. The community building aspect of this game is another thing to look forward to. The need to upgrade skills, weapons, and housing for an ever-growing community brings a level of realism to this game. I’m interested to see how it pans out because the characters in your community are not only playable, but they can die permanently… Sorry, Sally, didn’t plan that raid out very well! I absolutely can’t wait to play this (and maybe get my hands a little dirty cleaning up the Z’s) and I’m thinking a lot of you are just as excited!

If you enjoy a challenge, this is definitely a title worth picking up at the end of the month!

This is probably the game I am most excited about on this list. I have always been a huge fan of games which force you to make game altering decisions throughout their story. After playing the short demo for this game multiple times (I NEEDED to know what all the possible endings were), I was already more than hooked. The graphics are phenomenal, the voice acting is spectacular, and the tension this game can build throughout scenarios is unlike any other game I’ve ever played. In fact, I think that’s the most important piece to mention here. The weight of the decisions you make causes them to genuinely feel like they matter (at least in the free demo). I was a huge fan of Until Dawn because of the choices available and how they affected your story along with clues you needed to discover, but this game takes that concept to a whole new level and somehow just feels… different. This is one of those games I’ll be rushing out to bring home right away… and possibly having to call off sick from work the next day to keep playing.
