One idea i had to Rhodanthe was she was going to have an interest in science which would've put her at odds with merlin but i decided to have her use traditional magic and make artie the one interested in science. Not only it gives him an actual hobby but also a motivation as he stands out in a world full of magic and the supernatural but NEVER in opposition.
