Dangal box-office collection day 13: Aamir's film beats Dhoom 3, Sultan becomes next target

While it remains to be seen if Aamir Khan's Dangal can trump Salman Khan's Sultan at the box office, according to latest reports, the wrestling-based sports drama is already the 4th highest-grossing film of all time.

Ahead of Dangal is PK with a lifetime gross of Rs 792 crore, Baahubali: The Beginning with Rs 650 crore, Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Rs 626 crore, Sultan with Rs 584.15 crore.

Dangal has now a lifetime worldwide gross of Rs 570 crore with Rs 410 crore coming from Indian theatres and Rs 160 crore coming from international theatres.

Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is based on the real-life story of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his struggle to raise his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari as world-class wrestlers.

Geeta Phogat would go on to become a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in women's wrestling (55 kg category) and Babita would win Commonwealth Games' gold four years later.

Actors Fatima Sana Shaikh/Zaira Wasim and Sanya Malhotra/Suhani Bhatnagar have been appreciated by critics and audiences alike for their portrayal of Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari.

Owing the film's themes of patriotism and women's empowerment, Dangal has been declared tax-free in the states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The film is expected to beat Sultan's all-time box-office collection very soon.
