Sakura had always walked a fine line between two irreconcilable ideals, two oaths. 

She was a medic. She took an oath to heal the injured, to treat the sick, to save those who could be saved and ease the suffering of those who could not. Enemy or ally alike were to be healed to the best of her ability (even if enemies just ended up in the Torture & Interrogation Department afterwards; a living enemy was worth much more than a dead one, particularly to the village with a clan of mindwalkers).

She was also a shinobi. When she graduated at 12, she swore an oath to her Hokage and to her village to be a tool, a weapon in its hands, to kill and to lie and to steal and indeed to die for the Great Tree that was the Village Hidden in the Leaves, to fuel its Will of Fire with her own. It sounded very heroic at the time, but the following years had taught her that there was no honour in being a shinobi. Your closest friend from yesterday could try to stick a fist of lightning through your chest the next day. The ninja invading your village and killing your people one day could be your most sincere allies tomorrow. Honour was for samurai and for the dead, Tsunade always told her. 

The Fire Nation was honourable to its very core. It wasn’t just a virtue here, it was a way of life. 

It wasn’t all sunshine and roses of course. There was war, a longer war than Konoha had even existed (and wasn’t that a mindfuck to think about). But even there, honour was a priority. Civilian casualties were avoided where possible, targeting only those capable of bending or combat. When possible, even enemy combatants were held captive instead of killed. Soldiers kept themselves to standards almost as strict as Konoha medics.

For the first time since Lady Tsunade took her under her wing, she didn’t feel the tension between those two roles pulling at her seams.

She had wondered if everyone in this world was just like that. The possibility was both inspiring and terrifying. Inspiring, because it showed Naruto’s dream might be possible after all. Terrifying, because what if all it would take was the rise of one group that thought differently to bring it all down, the way the shinobi had for the samurai. 

She wasn’t sure if she was disappointed or relieved when her time in Ba Sing Se proved even this gentle world had its dark Roots hiding underground.

“What is this about? Your agents show up in the middle of the night and drag me down here?” She made sure to struggle against her Root-wannabe captors. Seriously, she might have to get them some blank masks at some point. “You will not treat a Kyoshi Warrior this way!” 

“But you’re not a Kyoshi Warrior, are you, Princess Azula of the Fire Nation?”

The Danzo act would have probably put her on guard more if she didn’t know for a fact Long Feng wasn’t even one tenth as strong as that warhawk ever was. 

Still, Azula knew the real danger a man like this posed was never his own prowess. No, the danger lay in his command over his private army, and his ability to make the shadows his home.

She narrowed her eyes. “What do you want?”

What he didn’t realize was that a new monster, a shinobi, was now skulking these shadows, far more dangerous and experienced than he could ever be. 

“I want to make a deal.”

He wasn’t going to last a week.

The Godhood Gambit:

"Your Highness, the enemy troops are sallying forth from their positions!"

Stifling a gasp, Mio turned towards her father, anxiously watching his reaction through her veil. The frown that had hung off his face since the start of the siege was briefly replaced by a sad look she couldn't quite identify, before his expression hardened into the proud warrior he had been before her birth.

"It is time. Men, you have your orders. Protect the city with your lives. Today we show these Pirates why water doesn't last in the desert".

A resounding roar answered his proclamation, and then the court was filled by clanking weapons, chafing leather, and barking orders.

Her father's voice rang out over the noise. "Takeo. Stay behind."

Cursing under her breath, she hurried towards her father's side, hoping she could reach him before -

"Your majesty," she heard the glib voice of her betrothed say and groaned. "What task do you have for me? Shall I take out the enemy admiral? Burn down their flagship? Flank their forces?"

Her father shook his head. "No, I need you for a much more important task." Takeo puffed out his chest, ready to receive the honour of a lifetime - "I need you to guard Mio in the Sun Shrine."

"But Lord Haruya-"

"But father! -"

"I have made up my mind on this, both of you," her father cut them both off. "My daughter is the chosen of the Sun God, and my only heir. Without her, there is no future for the Land of Fire." Then he turned to her. "Mio, your safety is of the utmost importance, and Takeo is to be your husband, your future king. You need to learn to trust him, and let him cover your weak spots if you are to be Queen. You are a team. Please, act like it."

Mio bit her tongue, forcing herself to nod. 'Maybe if he wasn't such a dick, we'd be a decent team by now, but it's not like I got a say in who my husband would be now did I?'

She glanced at Takeo and flinched. She had never seen such a venomous look on his face before as he bowed low. "Of course, my lord. I will ensure your daughter's safety."

Silence reigned as her father stared him down. "See that you do," he concluded.

Her father held her back for a moment longer.

There was something in his eyes in that moment that made her freeze. He looked terrified, like he was afraid she would disappear any moment.

He held her shoulder, his dark hand moving a strand of her blond hair out of her face. "Please, my Ray of Sunshine. Promise me you will stay in the shrine with Takeo until I tell you it's safe today. No matter what happens, I need to know you will stay out of danger."

She hugged him, not wanting to see that strange sad look anymore. "I promise. I love you, father."

He held her tight for a moment. "And I love you, Mio."

He let go. "Now, go, you two. May the Sun God protect you."

Historiography of the Elemental Nations: Sakura the Historian:

Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it. A trite saying, but not without merit. The Uchiha and Senju, Kamizuri and Fushō, Karatachi and Yuki. All clans that joined together under the banner of villages to prevent the bloodshed of their people. A mere 20 years later would see each of their villages perpetrate and suffer more catastrophic losses than ever before

“-and that’s why the clans lived together peacefully within Konoha ever since. Alright, now everybody grab your lunches, and I’ll see you all at the target range for shuriken practice in an hour!”

Sakura dutifully finished her notes as Mizuki-sensei finished up the class, then hesitated. She wanted to hurry outside to have lunch and chat with Ino, but something was bugging her. 

Ino shot her a questioning look when she noticed Sakura lagging behind. 

“You go ahead,” Sakura said. “I still have some questions about the lesson.”

Ino shrugged and skipped ahead, effortlessly inserting herself in the center of the conversation with some other girls from their class. For a moment Sakura felt a stab of envy, wishing she could navigate social situations as seamlessly as her more popular friend, but she buries it, focusing instead on her current goal. 

“Ah, Mizuki-sensei? I had a question about today’s material.”

Mizuki looked up with a raised eyebrow. “You didn’t understand something from the lesson? That’s unlike you, Sakura-chan.” 

Sakura blushed, the compliment catching her unaware. 

“Ah, I - Thank you Mizuki-sensei, it’s just - I was curious about what it was like during the Warring Clans period? I mean, you said it took a lot of convincing for the Senju and Uchiha to work together, and for other clans to join. But if it was so bad during that time, there had to have been more people looking for alternatives, right? Or they had to have good reasons not to change? I don’t know what period came before, but maybe it was even worse then? I thought…”

She trailed off, heart sinking. Mizuki was looking at her like she had turned into a toad, completely baffled, though that look was slowly replaced by something she couldn’t identify.

He remained silent for a moment. “Sakura-chan, I’m sorry to say but there wasn’t anything before the Warring Clans period, nothing we know of at least. There’s myths about the Sage who supposedly lived between one and two thousand years ago, but that’s more the domain of Temple Monks, I wouldn’t know anything about that.” 

“Nothing??” Inner shouted, and she couldn’t help but agree. “What does he mean, nothing!? It can’t have just been 800 years of Warring Clans if it was so horrible. There’s got to be more on this!”

Seeing her look of confusion, he seemed to decide something. “Tell you what, I’ll write you a pass for the library giving you access to some history scrolls of genin level, if you can do some research about the history before the founding and write me an essay about it, I’ll grade it for extra credit, does that sound good? You have to promise you’ll keep up with your normal schoolwork however, although I doubt you’ll have any problems with that.” He winked as he said that, and she felt the blood rushing to her cheeks again.

“Th-Thank you Mizuki-Sensei! I won’t let you down!”

She grabbed the permission slip, stuffing it in her pocket, and ran outside to find Ino again.

Michizula Sugarmommy AU:

Standing in front of the door ready to knock, Azula hesitated. She’d often stood in front of this very door years ago, impatiently waiting for Mai to show up. Being here now for a very different reason, she wasn’t sure what to make of it.

She still didn’t know if she could trust Matsuri. Could this be a plot Mai cooked up, a trap she was about to walk into? 

Azula knew Mai still didn’t trust her around Zuko. Despite her complete lack of involvement in politics since the end of the war, she’d heard her image, as it was portrayed in the old propaganda posters, was still considered a rallying point for opponents to Zuko’s rule. If Mai had discovered where Azula’s desires truly lay, there was no doubt in her mind she would publicly expose her to tarnish her image among the Sozinists and to protect Zuko’s position. But why she’d use her old home when Azula would recognize it instantly, she didn’t know.

She steeled herself then. If it was a trap, so be it. If it gained her new enemies, at least it would give her a target for her anger that wasn’t herself. Agni, if it lost her the dubious ‘support’ of those who’d preferred her as the monster she’d been, perhaps she’d be viewed with less suspicion. 

Decision made, she gave a firm knock on the door and waited. And waited. Finally, the door opened to reveal Mai’s mother Michi. 

The last time she had seen Michi had been back in Omashu, but there she had been wearing an outfit that was appropriate for the colder Earth Kingdom climate. This time Azula couldn’t help but notice the way the thinner fabric clung to her form, revealing more of her figure than before without diminishing her elegance a bit. She forced herself to meet Michi’s gaze, holding back a blush. Clearly, being caught reading a scroll like that had rattled her more than she thought.

Michi raised an eyebrow at her, having noticed her appraising look, and she flushed a bit. Great going, Azula. Ambush or not, she was already making a fool of herself. 

Michi smiled warmly at her, and stepped forward to give her a hug. “Azula, darling, what a lovely surprise! What brings you here tonight? Did Mai want to meet you here for some reason? She should have told me, I’d have had the cook prepare you two a meal!” She pulled back from the hug a bit, her hands still on Azula’s arms.

Azula shook her head and cleared her throat. “No, no, Mai didn’t ask me to come here. I’d heard there was a type of… soirée, of sorts, here tonight? A woman named Matsuri mentioned it. She told me to tell you she’d invited me.”

Michi gave her an intrigued look at that, a calculating gleam in her eyes. “Did she now? How interesting. She did tell me she invited someone, but it seems she failed to inform me it was such a close family friend.” She stepped aside, gesturing for Azula to enter while laying a gentle hand on the small of her back. “Please, darling, come in! You’re always more than welcome here, let me show you around.”

They walked down the opulent halls, paintings of flowers and mountains decorating the walls. Finally, they arrived at a dark wooden door. Azula remembered Mai telling her and Ty Lee that it was a room her mother occasionally entertained guests in, and that they weren’t allowed in. She’d been curious about the room for a little while after that, like any kid told not to do something, but it was always kept locked, and as they started spending more time at the palace she ended up forgetting all about it. 

Now, hearing multiple voices talking and laughing behind it, her old curiosity rose up once more. 

Michi put a hand on the door and sent her a smile before pushing it open. “Welcome, Azula, to the Golden Orchid Society.”

The room beyond showed itself to be a tastefully decorated lounge. As she followed Michi in she could see a table where four women were playing mahjong in the corner to the left of the door. In the middle of the room, stretching from the northern to southern end, was a long, low table, surrounded by red-cushioned zaisu. Behind that in the other corner stood an impressively filled wine rack. 

The southern half of the room had two seating areas next to a set of wide open sliding doors taking up the entire southern wall. To the right of the entrance, three women were seated around a small round table, two of them sitting very close together on the red couch decorated with a stitched golden floral pattern. The second conversation area was across the room, featuring an L-shaped couch around a small coffee table with Matsuri and another woman gesturing wildly as they discussed something.  

The sliding doors opened up to show an entirely walled-in garden. There was a tree, two flower bushes, and a path going around a small half-moon shaped pond. On the other side in the arch of the pond stood a pavilion.

Azula gaped as she took in her surroundings. Never in her wildest imagination did she think this could be hidden in the home of her childhood friend. She turned back to Michi when she heard her laugh.

“Should I take your silence as a good sign? I’m glad I can still impress you even when you no doubt grew up with much more luxurious surroundings.” She then gestured for Azula to follow her again.”‘Come, let me introduce you to everyone.”

The barn is old. 50 years, at least, but probably older for all anyone still knew. Every plank had been replaced at least once, giving the barn a mottled pattern of wood that ranged from an old, faded grey, to a vibrant brown that had still been a tree last autumn. A windowsill in the loft was set to be replaced when the apple tree in the field started blossoming, its wood damaged by rot after the heavy rainfall last year.

The barn is quiet. The animals had been let out in the morning, most of them now out in the field enjoying the summer breeze. The few animals remaining inside were asleep, cooling off in the shade.

The barn is dirty. A few pigs had been lucky: a flock of crows had come by three nights ago, knocking a few premature apples into the mud below, and they'd wasted no time the next morning helping themselves to the treats they found. Faces smeared with more mud than usual, they'd made a right mess for someone to clean up once they went back inside. You could hardly blame them: why not enjoy the little things while you can?

The barn is old.

A famous prompt: Describe a barn as seen by a man whose son has just been killed in a war. Do not mention the son, or war, or death. Do not mention the man who does the seeing.

You were walking into the arena wheeling your suitcase behind you as you just came from your hotel; as you made it more down the hallway until Byron Saxton stopped you to interview you

“Y/n…”

He got cut off by Sonya, Shayna, and Zoey walking up to you taking over the interview

“Y/n?” Zoey puts her hand on your shoulder

“We have been watching you and we think you're good and would like to offer you a spot in the group”

“No, no thank you”

Zoey went to get in your face but Shayna stopped her

“No, it's not worth it. I have an idea” after Shayna said that the three of them walked away

You continued to walk to your locker room, what did Shayna mean when she said that? You got to your locker room setting your suitcase down on the couch getting out the gear you want to wear tonight, while you got ready you couldn’t stop thinking about what Shayna had said

You got a roll up pin victory over Kairi Sane, you head backstage to celebrate by yourself but that didn’t last long as Shayna walked up to you alone

“Wow that was a nice win Y/n, but let me give you a hard dose of reality fluke or ‘lucky wins’ like that don’t make you stay on top in this company they will drag you down. So a pointer is just join Pure Fusion Collective”

“Kindly I say no”

“Join us next week when we talk as a group”

“Shayna I-”

“I wasn’t asking, I’m telling you to” Shayna walks away after she said that

One thing you don’t want to do in this company is test Shayna Baszler, it won’t end well for you.

The next week while you walk into the arena yiu thought about what Shayna said, after you got settled in you head to the PFC locker room because the last thing you want to do is go against Shayna’s word. You knock on the door for it to be answered by Zoey Stark

“Shayna the door” Zoey says as she goes back to the couch

Shayna lets you in then shuts the door behind you, she looks over at you “Sonya and I will be right back so Zoey will keep you company until we come back”

When they leave Zoey looks over at you

“I’m on to you” she says looking over at you

“What?”

“I know what you are hiding”

“I’m sorry?” You looked at her confused

“I know you like Shayna”

The look on your face gave it away that she was right

“So the plan was to get you to join the group because Shayna wants you in the group”

“But why?”

“Maybe Shayna feels the same way” Zoey implied

You thought about it for a while and you made your decision, when Shayna and Sonya came back you stood up looking at Shayna

“Okay, fine I will join your group”

“Good”

“You start next week and you are now a heel so I will go let Adam Pearce know and you will have a character change”

“Good choice” Shayna looked at you

The next week you went down to the ring with Shayna alone showing that you aligned with Pure Fusion Collective, but Zoey and Sonya were nowhere to be seen which left you confused. You brushed off that questionable confused feeling as you stood ringside to watch Shayna fight Tiffany Stratton

You watched the control in the match go back and forth so you got on the apron distracting Tiffany so Shayna can get a roll up pin victory, when Shayna went to pin her you got down but it was only a 2 count so Tiffany rolled through but Shayna put her in the Kirifuda Clutch

Shayna got the win by submission and rolled out the ring quickly as you rushed over to meet her on the ramp, she put her arm around you smiling at you because she got the win with your help. You smile back as you thought about what Zoey said; maybe Shayna does feel the same way

KPop Demon Hunters thoughts below, including spoilers! Specifically: what should have happened to the Honmoon?

Disclaimer: I really enjoyed this movie! But the ending felt a bit rushed relative to the growth the characters had to go through, and the themes suffered for it. The Honmoon should have stayed broken.

From the juice shop onwards, the theme of needing to embrace one's entire self was really pronounced. This message contrasted sharply with Celine's philosophy that one must bury their flaws. Obviously, being raised like that would give anyone intense anxiety, and each character is shown to have their own issues. Zoey and Mira tensly laugh off this show-no-weakness idea when Celine is mentioned, so they were clearly adversely affected, but not as much as Rumi.

When Rumi finally confronted Celine, the "I love you!"/"Not all of me!" interaction hits hard: how many queer people have had that exact conversation with their parents? The internalized self-hatred comes to a head, and Rumi ultimately says she's glad she destroyed the Honmoon if the entire purpose behind it would tear her apart. This line could have been the groundwork for a new world order, but it ultimately wasn't.

Contrast the above with to Rumi and Jinu's dynamic. Seeing his humanity in his demon side helps her accept herself. Their connection was real despite him manipulating her. I think Free was the emotional height of the movie as far as both worlds coming together, and "understanding the whole" really made sense in that scene.

Then, the movie ends with Rumi singing the song she had been trying to get out the whole time to wake up Mira, Zoey, and their fans to defeat Gwi-Ma. The bond between the trio was clearly strong, and I never doubted they would come to terms with Rumi's demon side, but it felt unearned. We saw Rumi really develop as she grew to trust Jinu because she had to work through her internalized self-hatred. In addition, she had to reckon with the group's entire purpose--killing demons to protect the Honmoon--maybe not being the goal she actually needed to achieve. Sure, we see Mira and Zoey go from pointing their weapons at Rumi to hugging her, but they don't really wrestle with their fundamental beliefs about demons like she does.

It would have been nice to have even a couple of moments where Zoey and Mira made the connection that, if Rumi has feelings and is capable of good, maybe demons share those traits just as all humans do. The sharp twist that Takedown was unintentionally directed at Rumi instead of the Saja Boys illustrates how Zoey and Mira needed more development before they could credibly accept Rumi as a half-demon. Instead, we never saw them grapple with these extistential questions. They hear the song, embrace Rumi, and ultimately repair the Honmoon together.

I think the resolution to reconstruct the Honmoon inaccurately makes Mira's and Zoey's acceptance of Rumi seem conditional. Does Rumi get to stay on their side of the Honmoon because she is "one of the good ones?" Restoring the Honmoon really feels like pulling the ladder up behind her. Admittedly, destroying the barrier between demons and the human world has implications that would have been difficult to reconcile, but I think abolishing the structure separating the parts of a whole would have been worth the added difficulty in writing. It's the same abolition Rumi just experienced.

Individually, uniting the whole pays off. Both Mira and Zoey--especially Mira--knew something was wrong with Rumi. They readily pointed out how Rumi would never go to the bathhouse with them, that she dressed modestly (to hide her pattern), and that she had emotional walls. Rumi even has a separate dressing room from them. Celine had hammered into Rumi that her friends would never understand. At the end, though, we finally get to see Rumi relaxing with them in the bathhouse. Then, Rumi walks down the street in a crop top, pattern showing. Just like coming out, it's scary and changes everything, but the authenticity on the other side is generally well worth it. It's a shame that this radical self-realization wasn't taken a step further and extended to the world by way of leaving the Honmoon broken.

Pure Fucking Coincidence (Part 3 of 3): Past & Future Concerns

“Hey there, stranger!” A familiar voice made Shayna turn around and she couldn’t help but smile when she saw who it was.

“Having some drinks on the rocks?” Sonya guessed, noticing the bucket of ice that the Queen of Spades was carrying as she faced her.

“Zoey was injured during a match today,” Shayna explained. “This is for the swelling.”

“I’ll have to stop by to see her, then,” Sonya noted. “Which room are you guys staying in?”

Shayna pointed right down the hall in the direction she had been walking.

“My room is right here,” Sonya said, pointing her thumb at a nearby room in the other direction. “The three of us being booked on the same floor? That’s a coincidence I can get behind!”

“Don’t do that,” Shayna said, smile evaporating in an instant.

“Do what?” Sonya asked trying to decipher Shayna’s new expression.

Shifting the bucket to her other side, Shayna controlled the urge to fidget, looking directly into the eyes of the bombshell in front of her.

“Look, you make my girl happy and I really appreciate that, but you don’t want to be with me.”

“You know what I want, huh?” Sonya asked, doing her best to keep a lighthearted tone. “Why don’t I want to be with you, then?”

“Because I’m like a loaded gun with the safety off that people keep trying to use as a hammer.”

Sonya considered the statement for a moment before replying. “What, dangerous?”

“… Sometimes.”

Shayna saw the quizzical look she was being given and sighed before explaining, gaze falling to the ground.

“All my life, fighting is what I did best. MMA, pro-wrestling, generally not taking shit from anyone - I knew how to handle myself, knew what to do when I was angry. Problem is, I never learned what to do when I felt anything else. Every relationship I’ve had has been a disaster; I know exactly how much damage I can do and I can’t… I won’t let myself do that again. Not to her.” A flash of unbearable sadness shone in her eyes as she continued. “Even then, I know I might still ruin everything. You shouldn’t put yourself in harm’s way just because Zoey’s my girl.”

Sonya waited until Shayna looked back up at her again to respond, the Queen of Spades obviously steeling herself for the worst possible reaction.

“Who says I’m into you just because of Zoey?” Sonya asked, trading innuendo for sheer sincerity. “I can tell you mean well, but trying to protect Zoey like that means you’re holding back. She deserves to know what you’re thinking and how you feel.”

Shayna looked almost panicked at Sonya’s gentleness and understanding, eyes shifting as if she wasn’t sure where to look.

“This is a conversation you should be having with her, too,” Sonya concluded when she finally caught Shayna’s gaze again. “You’re not going to scare either one of us off just by being honest.”

It was the last thing Shayna expected, and - as Sonya spoke - she began seeing the woman in front of her in a new light. It made her wonder what else she had yet to learn about the raven-haired beauty and, hell, even about herself.

“Now c’mon,” Sonya said, grabbing the bucket, “Let’s get this ice to Zoey and see if we can’t find other ways to make her feel better too, hm?”

Some wrestling thoughts as I procrastinate finishing my next story:

-As I try to engage more with wrestling fans I’ve realized that most are not actually wrestling fans. They are actually wrestling stans. They are just here for one(or more) wrestlers and anything bad happens to them or they feel they’ve been slighted, then nothing else matters. Not the storyline, the potential story, the reasoning, or any other little web. It’s annoying. I wanna talk wrestling and why this happened and where do you think it leads. And the “oh yeah! So and so should have won cause then this could happen!” And the “man! This would have been a good feud.”

-I’m sure Becky wishes she had a pop up window on her X account that said “do you really want to post this?” But she posted it and the joke fell flat. I view it as maybe it was trying to start a feud with Roxanne upon her return but it was the wrong way to do it. But Jesus, some people want a pound of her flesh. “She needs to write a 10 page apology”. No. She deleted it. May have sent a text or called and said “aye. That was stupid of me. I’m sorry.” And that’s that. She does not need to apologize to anyone else other than Punk and Roxanne, maybe AJ. And it doesn’t have to be public. You just want it to be public so you can rip it (and her) up.

-I can tell a lot by when people started watching wrestling by some of their opinions. The biggest is the fallout over Rhea losing the belt to Iyo. There was a time when the only person guaranteed at Wrestlemania was the Royal Rumble winner. He punched his ticket. The champ (who actually wrestled at the Rumble in a title match) wasn’t set. Sure you knew probably who was taking the belt to Mania but he was probably going to lose it and gain in back in the mean time. It was actually kind of nice.

-“but what about my rematch.” How many times did we watch Liv and Rhea? There is no rematch when the feud is over. Liv doesn’t get a rematch because the feud ended. To have a rematch means they’ll continue the feud and nobody wanted it to. Nobody wanted it to go on as long as it did. And Liv wasn’t winning the feud. Be serious and think about the storyline. They did not add in the layers between them other than Liv injuring her and while away, Liv took everything. That sucks because they did have layers. And it sucks the feud was poorly written. It could have been so much better. They deserved better.

-Liv does not need to be added into the impending triple threat match at Mania. Once she lost the championship, she was taken out of the title scene. Yes she lasted in the rumble. Yes she was the last person in the chamber, but that’s because she’s one of the top females. They weren’t sending her packing early. They were going to let her eat. But her story is taking over the tag division because Bianca’s time was up.

-everyone can’t be in the title scene all the time! Some of the best matches have nothing to even do with a title.

-I personally think the women’s tag division (and the Raw’s tag division to be honest) suck. They released women who were part of genuine tag teams and were left with who? And the actual tag teams still there (Zoey/Shayna, Kayden/Kalani) have been kept in catering while women who should be in the main/mid title scene fight around in the tag. Let’s face it, the women’s roster is depleted. That’s why we get the same matches and lacking feuds.

-honestly sometimes I think the women need to be consolidated back into one roster because damn there just doesn’t seem to be enough.

-With Rhea losing, I’m doubtful she wins at Mania. Iyo is keeping it and Bianca is winning. If Iyo wins then I’m worried where she goes. Bianca is SD. Who is on Raw to feud with? Will they carry Iyo and Rhea into Summer Slam? Will Becky be returning to that title scene.

-Bianca could win but no way she’s done with the Jade story. There is more there. She definitely playing the “I don’t care” card too well on Monday. Her friend was just brutalized and it was “I’m worried about me”? Yup. More is coming.

-if you made it this far… I hate the John Cena heel turn. I also hate The Rock popping in for shit like this. I actually hope we get Legend Killer Orton back, but they’ll probably have him turn on Cody too. This may be a layer to bring back Rock V Roman because Roman could view it as going too far but he’s dancing with Punk and Seth but with Triple H…we got time.

I'm not sure if it's just something I misremember from my time reading House of Night, but looking back, didn't it feel like the moment the authors decided Neferet was going to be the villain, it was just a foregone conclusion? There was no real build-up or wrestling with the situation, especially in the context of how (apparently and given what the Casts have told us) a high priestess is supposed to be a religious leader, head teacher, governor and mother, all rolled into one person, and as such is supposed to have the highest social standing one can have without also being a head of state?

I supposed it partly has something to do with how the teenage drama often warranted more importance in the narrative than whatever Neferet was up to, and also how Neferet was frequently committing the same kind of immoral and criminal acts as Zoey was - just without the authors' carte blanche.

Part of why I write my fanfic for this fandom is very much to not only address the double standard above, but also reckon with the very magnitude of Neferet's villainy and give it the attention and gravity it deserves. I hope I'm doing at least that much!

Monday Night Raw (8/14):

Backstage, Adam Pearce spoke to WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Chelsea Green about the future of the titles now that Chelsea is without a partner as Sonya Deville has a torn ACL. Kayden Carter and Katana Chance interrupted, saying that they wanted a shot at the titles once Chelsea found a partner. Kayden and Katana were then attacked from behind by Piper Niven who declared that she would be Chelsea's new partner and took one of the title belts from her.

Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley defeated Indi Hartwell. After the match, Candice LeRae and Indi attacked Rhea before escaping up the ramp. match length-3:05.

Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus ended in a double count-out. The match ended after Becky and Trish began to brawl in the crowd. They continued to fight up the stairs and into the concourse. As they reached the merch stand, Zoey Stark appeared and helped Trish to lay out Becky. match length-11:30.

Backstage after the match, Adam Pearce confronted Trish and Zoey. He said that Trish would have another match against Becky, and that this time it would be in a steel cage.

NXT (8/15):

Blair Davenport defeated Dana Brooke. match length-3:39.

In a backstage segment, Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley & NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio called out Lyra Valkyria & Dragon Lee, issuing a challenge for a mixed tag team match next week at NXT Heatwave. Later in the show, Lyra and Dragon Lee accepted the challenge.

Jacy Jayne defeated Thea Hail. match length-8:11.

A video package of NXT Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton was shown. Stratton promised that she would be on NXT Heatwave next week.

AEW Dynamite (8/16):

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. defeated The Bunny to qualify for the AEW Women's World Championship four way match at AEW All In. Britt claimed the final spot in the championship match in London, where she, Saraya, and Toni Storm will all be challenging Hikaru Shida for the gold. match length-7:31.

WWE Main Event (8/17):

Natalya defeated Tegan Nox. match length-5:43.

Friday Night SmackDown (8/18):

Bianca Belair & Charlotte Flair defeated Damage CTRL (WWE Women's Champion Iyo Sky & Bayley). Bianca pinned Bayley to score the win. match length-13:50.

Bianca was in the middle of being interviewed backstage, when she was attacked by Damage CTRL's Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky.

NXT Level Up (8/18):

Jacy Jayne defeated Karmen Petrovic. match length-5:10.

Dani Palmer defeated Brooklyn Barlow. match length-4:56.

AEW Rampage (8/18):

AEW Women's World Champion Hikaru Shida & Skye Blue defeated The Outcasts (Toni Storm & Ruby Soho). After the match, Toni and Ruby attacked Shida and Skye. Saraya also attacked the champion and her tag partner, before Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. ran down the ramp to make the save. All six women brawled to end the show. match length-10:08.

AEW Collision (8/19):

Willow Nightingale defeated Diamante. match length-11:02.

On Wednesday morning, Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Lacey Evans has officially left WWE. This follows Lacey removing "WWE" from her social media handles, as well as indicating in her Instagram bio that she is no longer with the company. As of writing this, there has been no statement from WWE regarding Lacey's release, but she has been moved to the alumni section of the WWE website. According to a report from Fightful Select on Tuesday night, Lacey had indicated that her deal was set to expire at midnight.

Dakota Kai confirmed during a Twitch stream that she still has a ways to go before she is cleared to return to in-ring action. Specifically, she said that she is just under six months away from being cleared.

The Scottish Invasion: How Scottish Wrestlers Took Over The WWE Part 3

I am back with Part 3 of my series about Scottish Wrestlers in WWE. If you have not read Parts 1 and 2 , please check those out! In this article , I am going to focus on the third Member of NXT’s Gallus and The Unholy Union.

Wolfgang

Wolfgang was born Barry Young on December 3,1986 in Glasgow, Scotland. He made his professional wrestling debut in 2003 and his WWE debut as a part of the NXT UK brand in 2016. Wolfgang is a one time BCW Heavyweight Champion , five time Tag Team Champion, and a two time Openweight Champion for the promotion. He is also a one time ICW World Heavyweight Champion and a one time Zero-G Champion. He is also a two time PBW Heavyweight Champion and a one time PBW Tag Team Champion. He is a one SPW British Heavyweight Champion. In his WWE Career, he has won the NXT and NXT UK Tag Team Championships alongside his younger brother , Mark. Wolfgang is also a member of the Scottish Wrestling Network Hall of Famer ( Class of 2017). He is also a member of Gallus alongside Mark and Joe Coffey.

Alba Fyre/Kay Lee Ray

Alba Fyre was born Kayleigh Rae on August 11, 1992 in Paisley Renfrewshire , Scotland. She made her professional wrestling debut in 2009 and her WWE debut in 2017 as a part of the Mae Young Classic, however , she signed with WWE in 2019. She became a member of the ICW in 2011 and became a three time Women’s Champion in the promotion. She is also a one time Fierce Females Champion for ICW. While in ICW , Fyre was a member of the faction , Black Label alongside Drew Galloway ( Drew McIntyre) , Wolfgang, Jack Jester , and her husband, Stevie Boy. She also appeared in TNA’s British Bootcamp. In 2015, she made a one time appearance on NXT , losing to Nia Jax, thus , returning to WWE in the Mae Young Classic. She is a one time NXT UK Women’s Champion and NXT Tag Team Champion with Isla Dawn. She is also a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Winner alongside Io Shirai ( Iyo Sky ).

Isla Dawn

Isla Dawn was born Courtney Stewart on February 2, 1994 in Glasgow , Scotland. She made her professional wrestling debut in 2013 and made her WWE debut in the Mae Young Classic in 2017. Dawn defeated Nikki Storm ( Nikki Cross/ASH) in 2016 in the first Women’s match for Reckless Intent Wrestling. She also competed in the Inaugural wrestling show for Pro Wrestling: EVE. She also competed in the 5 Star Grand Prix Tournament for the Japanese wrestling promotion , World Wonder Ring Stardom ( Stardom) in 2016. In 2017 , she made an appearance on WWE Monday Night RAW as Stacy Coates in a squash match against Asuka. She was defeated. She competed in the 2018 Mae Young Classic and was signed to WWE ‘s NXT UK in 2018. She is a one time NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion alongside Alba Fyre.

The Unholy Union will be competing in a Triple Threat Match against Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark and Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships at Clash At The Castle.

My Final Thoughts:

Part 3 of this series was one of the most interesting to research and write about. These wrestlers are some of the best on WWE programming. I’ll be writing about Nikki Cross/ASH in the finale of the series.

All your stories have such great titles! (what's your secret?) They all sound intriguing, but I must say I'm really curious to know what The Godhood Gambit is about?

Ahh thank youuu!! tbh I don't really have a secret for titles, even when I was in university I just put a lot of effort into coming up with good/funny titles for essays (I once got a 10, which in the Netherlands is practically unheard of, for an essay titled 'Tea for Brits and Coffee for Wits; the impact of coffeehouses on British society in the late seventeenth century'). But most things go through like 2 or 3 different titles before I settle on one, so it's just working out what sounds better.

As for The Godhood Gambit! It's the original work I've started trying to actually turn into a full novel since like, January? Admittedly most I have now are 2 or 3 random scenes, but I do have a full outline ready to guide me, so I'm hopeful I can do it, just might take some time (I am not a fast writer). I'll add a summary below:

It's the story of a fugutive princess traveling a war-torn world in order to become the Goddess of the moon.

Ririka, former general and princess of the Water Empire, escapes Emperor Reijiro's (her brother) desert prison in one of the Water colonies in the Fire Desert with the help of the new Sun Goddess Mio, who kept her company during the days in prison and became her girlfriend. Unfortunately they discover that new Gods start losing their humanity the longer they interact directly with the mortal realm, and Mio is starting to have episodes where she loses control, posing a danger to people around her. Ririka decides that, since she doesn't have a real chance at freedom in the mortal world anyway, she will find a way to become the Moon Goddess in order to be with Mio forever. To do that, she travels with Mio and Takeo, Mio's grim ex-fiancé from when she was human, around the 5 elemental realms (the Empire of Water, the Land of Fire, the Wood Tribes, the Metal Dynasty and the Earth Clans) trying to beat the clock before the Mio she loves is gone. Along the way, she comes face to face with the real outcome of the Empire of Water's expansionist ambitions, though it seems not everyone is happy with the results of her brother's peace deal either.

Reviving & Re-Casting an Old Idea: Neutralised (1994) [1/?]

For those who didn't know me back when this blog first started, it was not a wrestling or music fanfiction blog, it was a page for my comic book and tv series ideas.

Back then I had 2 ideas that I never quite found time to write for: Brainwaves (A Ghostbusters AU), and Neutralised (a sitcom/drama series set in a mortuary building). Yes, I know the idea of Neutralised seems a bit odd, but I was watching a bunch of 'Chicago Hope' and 'Dead Like Me' and decided to set it in the same universe as 'Chicago Hope'.
