cozytober2024: 11. Unexpected Family Gathering

"And we have a real treat for you tonight," the auctioneer announced. "An elven wine that has been aged for 10,000 years. One of it's kind, and certainly fit for kings, a bottle of the famous millennium wine."

Zoe raised his paddle before the man had finished his spiel. The bidding kicked off high-stakes and fast-paced. The others around them dwindled down as Olineaux money outpaced them in leaps and bounds. Vicky's birthday was coming up again and the best gift always resulted in the most lenient drinks being shoved upon them. This year Zoe would not be the one with the worst hangover. He would not.

He eyed one of his competitors down in the front row, a squat little man with dirty blond hair who was waving his paddle around enthusiastically enough to grate on his nerves. He also had deep pockets, but Zoe was determined to win.

Just then, the woman sitting next to the man put her paddle down and the man laughed. It was so familiar that Zoe stood up and shouted, "Balfey?"

The man stood up and turned around, goggling at him. That was indeed his son.

"Zoe?" came a call from the other side of the room, and he turned to see his wife looking at him with wide eyes.

A man three seats down from where Christie was sitting stood up and glared at them, it was Hugh of course. Zoe panicked. "Is Vicky here too?" he yelled to the lot of them. They all yelled back negatives and he breathed a sigh of relief. He'd hidden all papers relating to this auction specifically to keep Vicky from learning about it.

"I told her it was a fake," Balfey yelled proudly.

"I gave her extra work," Hugh shamelessly declared.

He looked to Christie, who had a distinctly guilty countenance. Ah, then Vicky must have been so busy this week she hardly had time to breathe, much less learn about the auction. Good.

Zoe cleared his throat and, realizing they were interrupting the auction, and that everyone was watching this little family gathering play out rather than continue, he decided, "Well, now that we all know we're here for the same reason, I'll just take-"

Hugh screeched from across the room. "That's not going to work this time! I'm getting that wine for Vicky."

"We could team up against them," Balfey offered Hugh, likely because his funds were short at the moment after the latest investment. Zoe was so proud of him for trying to build an alliance, even if it was against him.

Hugh scoffed. "I came here to dominate. I'm sorry Balfey, but you're on your own."

Balfey cried out in betrayal and Christie leaned across the seats to scold them better. While they were busy Zoe upped his bid by 1,000,000 gold coins. The rest of them yelled in protest and attempted to catch up. He had to end this quickly, before they made the front paper and some moron told Vicky about this whole mess, spoiling her perfect birthday present that Zoe was going to get his hands on first.

So I have been playing an app called Helix Waltz for 2 weeks now. Here are my thoughts:

-Barris is husband material. Also I can't help be think of Ace Attorney because of him. He ain't afraid to roast his nephew.

-Juven is pretty but let's just stay as friends okay?

-Nyx is the cutest girl ever! I just want to embrace her and protect her <3

-Gonzalo is bff material. I love him and need him to pick out my outfits please!!

-Alminas is a beautiful sad elf who I want to wrap him up in a blanket and give him hot cocoa

-Alan is so sweet and Gonzalo is pinning for him?! Alan is a great catch.

-Zoe is both handsome and frightening at times. He seems like the kind of guy who sits back and watches the drama unfold.

-Willow, a beautiful elf with a beautiful voice. This guy IS the fight club if you know what I mean.

BONUS:

-What's fashion in this game? Pull up your trousers kids cause you are going to throw random clothes together and look like an accident.

Does Helix Waltz have a thing where when you get to the highest possible place in the senate the AI would have to be the ones to impress you and like pick subjects to talk about and you can act bored as shit and reject them. Because i serious want to revenge Zoe I cannot get over it. Also Tilla...
