I have to admit I’m not a huge fan of “foxes gain a tail every 100 years” being treated as a central, unshakeable tenet of portrayals of supernatural foxes. While not entirely inauthentic and attested both in China and in Japan in some capacity (though afaik not before the 19th century, and at least in the former case the oldest evidence I can find is a novel), I think it entrenched itself a bit too firmly in popculture and even in popular understanding of primary sources (contrary to a common misconception, no version of Tamamo no Mae legend alludes to it, for instance). There are other, more interesting takes on how the age of a fox might be reflected in their appearance or behavior - ones which lean more heavily into what imo makes fox literature interesting, namely the use of shapeshifting supernatural animals as a stand-in for the Other.
A Tang period source quoted by Xiaofei Kang in Cult of the Fox (p. 29) states that the age of a fox is reflected in the family name used by their human alter ego: “Foxes one thousand years old are surnamed Zhao and Zhang; foxes five hundred years old are surnamed Bai and Kang.” This is basically an extension of the hu (狐, fox)/hu (胡, foreigner) wordplay, since Kang was customarily the family name granted to people from Samarkand (Kangju in Chinese - it’s basically like a nisba) and its surroundings while Bai - these from Kucha (apparently it’s the sinicized form of the name of the ruling family); meanwhile, Zhao and Zhang were (and still are) common Han Chinese family names. In other words, the age of the fox was reflected by how well they can imitate a human - a younger fox had an air of otherness and stood out much in the same way as a foreigner would, a senior fox could basically assimilate effortlessly.
It’s also worth noting that the “new tail every 100 years” stuff is fundamentally at odds with how many sources describe the nine-tailed fox. At least early on they are basically their own thing - in the early sources they typically appear as omens, without an indication a normal fox can turn into one. Shanhaijing pretty much outright says that the nine-tailed fox is merely “a beast (...) whose form resembles a fox”; you could risk saying it’s a fox in the same capacity as the similarly nine-tailed Luwu (陸吾) is a tiger.
It also needs to be noted that there are very few fox stories where a fox has a number of tails different from 1 or 9 - and neither of the two most notable exceptions, two tailed medieval Tamamo no Mae and the three tailed “astral fox” from Dakiniten-adjacent sources - has anything to do with the notion of acquisition of tails. As far as Chinese fox literature goes I couldn't even find a single exception.

Journey to the West God Hunter (2030) 大变西游
Director: Zhang Gang / Zhou Jie / He Guiqing Screenwriter: Zhang Gang / Wang Pengzhan / He Guiqing / Lv Xiaofei Genre: Drama / Animation Official website: www.vasoon.com/works/The Second Journey to the West Country/Region of Production: Mainland China Language: Mandarin Chinese Date: 2030(Undetermined) Duration: 85 minutes Also known as: Deity Hunt / God Hunter / 神猎 / 西游后传 Type: Reimanging
Summary:
In the face of the threat of death, how did Sun Wukong, a superhero, use his unique wisdom and actions to save this world that he wanted to hide? Between him and a few brothers, How did you "indifferently" express your hot emotions? The kind of sincerity in the heart is buried in this strange mythical farce. The continuation legend of "Temperament Wukong", Sun Wukong is a giant locomotive with a bright red suit and a white dragon's transformation, Tang Seng is lazy and leisurely, Bajie is beautiful and elegant, Old Sha carries his son. The scene is magnificent, the visual effect is fantasy, and the Chinese style with the postmodern steam friends with an organic style. Qingqingshu's "Journey to the West" does not stir-fry the predecessor's cold rice. Digging the future expectations of young audiences on the theme of Journey to the West and the image of Wukong. Let him walk into people's daily life alive.

Multifunctional self-healing liquid metal hydrogel developed for human-computer interaction
Recently, researchers from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HFIPS) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by Prof. Tian Xingyou and Prof. Zhang Xian, along with associate Prof. Yang Yanyu from the College of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhengzhou University, used gallium indium alloy (EGaIn) to initiate the polymerization and serve as flexible fillers to construct liquid metal/polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)/P(AAm-co-SMA) double network hydrogel.
"The resulting material was super-stretchable and self-healing," said Li Xiaofei, first author of the paper, "it will promote the research and practical application of hydrogels and liquid metal in intelligent devices and military fields."
The study was published in Materials Horizons.
Most conductive hydrogels suffer from subpar mechanical qualities and lack desirable self-recovery and self-healing abilities, severely limiting hydrogels' potential uses. Liquid metals like gallium indium alloy (EGaIn) can toughen polymers by conforming to their changing shapes. Also, gallium (Ga) in EGaIn can initiate vinyl monomer's free radical polymerization.

Ip Man’s peaceful life in Foshan changes after Gong Yutian seeks an heir for his family in Southern China. Ip Man then meets Gong Er who challenges him for the sake of regaining her family’s honor. After the Second Sino-Japanese War, Ip Man moves to Hong Kong and struggles to provide for his family. In the mean time, Gong Er chooses the path of vengeance after her father was killed by Ma San. Set amidst the turbulent times in China that saw the end of the rule of Manchu dynasty, the embryonic republic established and then the Japanese invasion, we meet a man (Tony Leung) who lives peacefully in the small town of Foshan until he meets Wing Chun grand master Gong Yutian (Qingxiang Wang) who is looking for a successor. That is the beginning of a journey that will see him become a grand master of the martial art himself, whilst meeting, marrying and surviving! It’s a superb looking film but for me just a little too over-stylised. The combat scenes are creatively choreographed but the use of the slowed-down visual effects didn’t always work. Leung and the director are clearly on the same wavelength, and the story itself is a fascinating look at the rise of one culture through the wreckage of an ancient one. It’s also clear that women too had their place in this society – and it wasn’t always where stereotype might assume. A strong contribution from the adept and nimble Ziyi Zhang (Gong Er) demonstrates that well as battle lines between the old and new, the powerful and the aspirational are drawn and a good old dose of ancient tribal warfare sets up a proud story of heritage, loyalty and skill. Though a little soporifically scored at times, this is an enjoyable mix of history with touch of romance and plenty of action, and is well worth a couple of hours.
