Weird question but was I the only one who didn't notice Zenjoh(Zenjou??) only had one arm when until the scene where it got burned off??
Ps: It might actually rain lol first time asking about non-Dewa characters
It is a little hard to notice if you’ve only seen him in the anime, since he leaves the one sleeve empty rather than cut off. He does eat anko with just one hand in episode 2 of ROK so that might be a clue, they don’t really focus on it a lot in his anime appearances.
(Also can we talk about how his arm just…falls off in Side Blue? Like I was expecting it to be something major and instead it just kinda drops to the ground and Zenjoh himself is just like ‘huh, so that happened,’ YOU LOST AN ARM SIR.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My other complaint with this scene is there’s a moment in one of the manga — I think it’s Dog & Cat — where it’s implied that Zenjoh literally cut Habari’s head off, but the animated Side Blue chickened out and just had him get stabbed. I’m not saying I wanted more violence I just think it would have been more impactful if there was more violence).

Zenjoh Gouki (Zenjou Gouki) - K Side:Blue
The right-hand man (I think) of the previous Blue King, Hibari Jin.
During the Kagutsu Crater Incident, when the Red King's Sword of Damocles crumbled, it also caused the instability and the fallout of the Blue King's Weismann levels. Because of this, Zenjoh had to slay his King in order to not wipe off Japan totally.
He lost his arm in KCI.
Scepter 4 entered a stagnant chapter after the King's death, ultimately because the right-hand man left, leaving them with no leader or any guidance.
Ten years later, Munakata Reisi appeared, and it forced Zenjoh to  go back to Scepter 4 just to observe his actions. Out of his loyalty to Hibari, he didn't want anyone to taint the legacy that the previous Blue King has left behind, so he decided that he will kill Munakata if he sees that he's not fit to be King.
He and Kusuhara shared quite a bond, him being a mentor for the kid in fencing. He's one of the most affected when he died, even straining his relationship with Munakata.
Munakata called him his personal 'Sword of Damocles'.
Favorite moment: When he broke his computer (he left a friggin floppy disk on the slot, so it won't start up properly), he and Kusuhara were like... 'What's that beeping noise?' 'What's an OS?' 'This is a PC isn't it?' They didn't know what they were going to do. Later on, Hidaka and Enomoto cockblocked helped the two of them.
Another fave: When he and Munakata were discussing Kusuhara's death; they were both very emotional, but out of mutual respect and understanding, they came to terms with each other.
So guys, if someone would RP Kusuhara Takeru, someone should RP Zenjoh as well, since they're like couple boyfriends a team.

(trigger suicide)A very strange prompt came to my mind after re-reading Countdown Chapter 6 and Fushimi's profile about him is not good with Zenjou. So Zenjou after Habari's death couldn't sleep because he always dreamed about how he killed his King. On midnight, Zenjou bought a bottle of sleeping pills, but he got sudden thought to suicide with those pills. When he stared intently on the bottle while he walked, judging how much pills he needed to die, his foot knocked on something, made the bottle slipped from his hand and crashed to the floor. He noticed that he bumped a 6 years old kid with a strangely dead eyes. He tried to apologize to the kid, but the kid just said "now we're even". The kid explained that since his house is near Scepter 4 HQ, he overheard Blue officers discussed about everyone owed their lives on Zenjou since he saved Japan from destruction, probably with description of his nose scar and lose an arm. The kid said that he didn't like to be in debt to other people, but since he just 'saved' Zenjou, the kid already paid his debt and then he walked away. Zenjou thought what an unpleasant kid, who said that he wanted to save everyone's life and who said that he wanted to be saved. The kid clicked his tongue and muttered "what a pathetic man"
Fast forward, Post ROK Fushimi bought his fifth coffee from vending machine because he was sleepy as hell but he needs to recover his standing and repurtation in Scepter 4 through hard and efficient work. When he walks a little wobbly, he bumped into someone and the opened can of coffee falls from his hand and spills it's content to the floor. Turns out he bumped with Zenjou, and Zenjou just said "now we're even". Of course Fushimi doesn't appreciate it and thinks that Zenjou is such an unpleasant man, and Zenjou also thinks that Fushimi is such a pathetic kid.
Maybe Fushimi's house at the time was also like within what the radius of Habari's Damocles Down would have been if it had fallen. In the days afterward Zenjoh is still staying in Scepter 4 but he's just kinda shell-shocked and wandering around like a ghost, Shiotsu handling all Habari's affairs and trying to figure out how many members of Scepter 4 are still alive and what they're going to do going forward and all that. Zenjoh just wanders in and out of rooms, not really talking to anyone, still recovering from his injuries and from the memory of killing his own King.
At the same time little Fushimi is still living with his terrible parents and say he likes to sneak out a lot, even though he's young just anything he can do to get away from Niki (and besides he's probably left alone more often than a kid his age should be, the maid is technically there sometimes but she never really pays attention to where Fushimi is and focuses more on cleaning and making food). The big building that is Scepter 4's headquarters is close enough nearby that Fushimi will like walk over that way and just hang out in the shadow of the building, it's always lit up and he has a good view of the city. He overhears a lot of the remaining members of Scepter 4 walking around and even though Fushimi has no idea what a 'Damocles Down' is he's able to figure out that the huge explosion that decimated part of Japan a couple weeks ago was related to it and that something almost happened here too, like one of the members says something along the lines of 'If Zenjoh-san hadn't sacrificed his arm to do what he did all the houses here and the people in them would be dead.'
Some nights later Zenjoh can't sleep, haunted by dreams of his King. He's walking around with some sleeping pills Shiotsu gave him to help him sleep and as he's looking at them he thinks wouldn't it be easier to just take them all and be with Habari. He's walking outside along the perimeter, holding the bottle of pills and he says to himself that he destroyed Habari so it's only fair if he destroys himself too, as befits 'the Demon.' He opens the bottle but suddenly someone jostles his arm and the pills are scattered everywhere onto the grass, impossible to see. Zenjoh looks down and there's this gloomy little kid in glasses looking up at him with a distinctly unimpressed look. Zenjoh wonders who this kid is and the kid's like 'So you're the guy they said saved everyone? Tch, what a pathetic adult.' Zenjoh's like excuse me and Fushimi says well, he lives nearby and he supposes Zenjoh saved him too, so now they're even and Fushimi doesn't owe him anything. Zenjoh watches the kid walk away with this kinda bemused look before shaking his head and smiling a bit, like really some cheeky brat just saved his life.
Jump forward post-ROK and maybe Fushimi's been overworking himself even though he's still injured, wanting to make sure he regains his standing in Scepter 4. Munakata and Awashima have been trying to get him to rest but he keeps sneakily going for more coffee. He's on like his fifth can and is bringing it back to the office when someone jostles him, spilling the coffee all over his uniform. Fushimi clicks his tongue and then a voice says 'You'll need to go back to your dorm to change. Take a nap while you're there.' Fushimi glances up at Zenjoh and clicks his tongue, Zenjoh keeps walking past and adds 'now we're even.' Fushimi mutters 'what a pathetic adult' and Zenjou smiles a bit as he's like such a cheeky brat.

Is Zenjou in Idol K? He should be! Young Zenjou with Habari, omg. In Idol K. They'd be like senpai or "graduated" or whatever it is K-pop and other Asian popstars do. Cute. ;o;
I feel like he should have shown up at some point, everyone gets to be in Idol K right. Like Zenjoh and Habari were the original main stars of label Scepter 4, with Shiotsu maybe working as like their manager. Their style of singing was different than the popular idol style that Munakata and his Scepter 4 use now, like a less flashy style and more old-fashioned 80s type idol singers. Zenjoh was popular for his rough and tumble 'bad boy' look while Habari was considered more of the well-behaved ikemen type and their combination was part of their appeal. The two of them were definitely looked up to by a lot of Scepter 4's young and upcoming idols and it was expected that they would help guide newer idols in the future.
Then the mysterious 'Kagutsu idol incident' happened and they both promptly disappeared from the idol scene, leaving promotion Scepter 4 in shambles until Munakata appeared to clean up its image and bring it back to its former glory. Munakata of course felt it would be helpful to have a past idol on hand to guide the new generation but Habari's dropped completely off the radar and is unable to be found. Munakata does manage to find the retired and reclusive Zenjoh, and brings him back into Scepter 4 to work as something of a mentor figure. I imagine Zenjoh isn't very interested in being an idol anymore and maybe he thinks there isn't a point anyway, since the style of idol he and Habari were is something that can no longer be replicated in this current era. He also has his doubts about Munakata and the 'idol way' that Munakata supports, like is this spirit of being an idol really the same as the one that Habari so proudly created back in their prime. Zenjoh refuses to ever go on stage again but there's a rumor in Scepter 4 that if you look in on the practice room late at night after everyone's left you may spot him performing in silence, doing the same steps of dances that he and Habari once performed together, perfectly in step with a partner that's no longer there.

By the end of ROK I really wanted to see Zenjou openly acknowledge Munakata as his king and have a moment of finally understanding about the type of man/king Munakata is. The whole is he good or evil, should I slay him like I did Habari debate he had in Side Blue, but I don't think there was ever a nod to that? At least an open acknowledgment from what I remember. How do you think Zenjou would have expressed this + munakats reaction to him accepting him as his king?
This was my big disappointment with Zenjoh's arc in general, like it had a beginning and then a kind of muddled middle and then it just....disappeared (especially watching Side Blue again, and thinking about the parallels between Zenjoh having to kill Habari when he really didn't want to vs Munakata having to kill Mikoto when he also didn't really want to). I feel like Zenjoh might not have said it openly, like not in the same way that, for example, Fushimi was struggling to vocalize who his King is, Zenjoh's is more of a quiet acceptance that Munakata is worthy to take the position once held by Habari even if they aren't quite the same.
I like to imagine that at some point post-ROK Zenjoh goes to see Munakata in his office and they have some kind of talk, like Munakata wondering if Zenjoh wishes to continue in his current position at Munakata's back or would he prefer to return to the records office. Zenjoh notes that his sword is no longer needed and Munakata wonders if that's so, wasn't he going to slay Munakata if Munakata did not meet his expectations. Munakata says that Zenjoh did give such duties in the end to Awashima anyway and Zenjoh says that was not his job to do. Munakata wonders what Zenjoh considers his job to be then and Zenjoh considers for a time before stating that Munakata's 'justice' and Habari's 'justice' are different in their manner but more similar at the root than he thought. Zenjoh knows that Munakata wanted to make use of him as a 'sword' but Zenjoh feels like that is a job he put behind himself years ago. However, if Munakata still needs him to work in the records room and to watch over things, to see where Munakata's Scepter 4 goes now that his Kingship is ended but his duty isn't done...if that is the case, Zenjoh would be pleased to remain working as he has before. This is the closest Zenjoh will get to acknowledging Munakata and Munakata knows it, smiling brilliantly as he says that he will surely have plenty of work for Zenjoh to do in the meantime even if it isn't the sort he was initially planning for, and perhaps that isn't so bad a thing after all.

Mikorei hanahaki AU. Munakata starts coughing out flowers after Mikoto dies. Thanks!
It starts the day after he killed Suoh Mikoto.
Munakata wakes up that morning and he feels a tightness in his throat, irritating, because all he did was his duty – Munakata's decided on his chosen path as a King and all he did was what the Blue King had to, so he's not going to allow himself to look back, or to regret. His throat hurts though, like he can't breathe, and it's strange because he's never suffered from allergies or anything of the sort. It feels like something's stuck there, roots reaching up from his chest and clawing up his throat, and Munakata thinks 'this isn't grief.'
He gets up, changes into his uniform, and coughs up a flower petal.
From that point on it's a regular occurrence, always there in his throat, settling in his chest. He can feel it like a plant growing between his ribs, branches and leaves winding around to make a cage of his heart. He knows it will only grow thicker, vines and thorns, and maybe someday it will squeeze so tightly his heart won't be able to beat. But until then the flowers crawl their way up his throat, a constant cough that won't go away. Munakata's good at hiding it of course, because he's always been the sort of person who maintains perfect poise in every situation. He sits in his office and listens to Awashima give her report of the Ashinaka High incident – which is what they're calling it, not the Colorless Incident, not the Red King's grave – and he nods and gives his orders, and when she's gone he coughs flower petals into his tea. The petals are red like blood, floating in the cup, and perhaps there's something thin and amused in his smile as he stirs the tea with his finger.
A week passes, a day, a month. A new Red King rises out of the ashes of the old, and there are still flower petals in Munakata's throat, dotted like blood on his lips. When he meets Kushina Anna at the foot of the Mihashira building she looks at him for a long moment – 'I will not blame you for it, but I will not thank you either,' and he has not asked for either from her – and he suspects she can see it, the cage of branches and deep red blossoms holding his heart in check. There is red shining deep in her eyes and it's nothing at all like Suoh's, because Munakata knows Suoh's red. The bright burning fire that could tear everything to pieces, heat in those rough hands that had torn at his flesh like a wild beast, fire in the mouth and tongue that entangled with his, burning in the way only a wildfire can, like a thing that knows it must burn its brightest fast because once that fire dies there won't even be ashes behind.
(No blood, no bone, no ash. Mikoto has left none of those in this world now, and another flower falls from his lips.)
In the chamber of the Slate Munakata sees him sometimes, out of the corner of his eye. It's only a flash, here and there, and Munakata can't help but wonder if this is the Slate playing its own games. The Slate is alive, after all – no one who has sat in this room with their hands pressed against the glowing stone trying to tame the god that gave them life in the first place could deny that. Sometimes there are whispers in the back of his mind, promising him beautiful dreams and what this power could do, and Munakata never dwells on those. He's made his choice. He will not regret his choice.
Every time he leaves the chamber there are flower petals scattered on the surface of the Slate, but no one else enters this chamber and so it's simply his secret alone.
Munakata coughs into his hand, red petals fluttering in the wind, and he can feel the clock ticking down in his mind. It's aggravating, perhaps – he had more that he wanted to do, and of course it should be Suoh who still drags him down in the end.
(“You're an idiot, Munakata.” Biting his lips, blood dripping down like flowers, and Munakata pulls back Mikoto's head by his hair and tells him to be quiet.)
He knows the condition his Sword is in and he knows what is – still – growing in his chest. Munakata can calculate how the growth inside has increased with the cracks above his head, and he knows exactly how much time he has left. He will make the most of it.
Suoh Mikoto is smoking a cigarette just around the corner and Munakata can smell the smoke, but he keeps walking. A thorn pricks in his heart and this time there may be the smallest speck of red blood marring the petals that fall from his mouth and scatter away in the wind.
No blood, no bone, no ash.
“This isn't like you, Munakata.”
He planned everything perfectly, because that is who Munakata Reisi is. He knew what his duty would be the moment he stepped onto the ground at Ashinaka High, and he knew what his duty would be when he walked through the streets of Shizume City towards jungle's hideout with Zenjoh Gouki at his back. In the haze of the Gray King's power no one is able to see the petals flying in the wind and it's easy to explain away the blood as being from the wound on his head.
('Unlike me?Perhaps.' Once he would have smiled back at that, refuting the words even as he entertained them. But Suoh was that kind of person, who dragged out all the contradictions that Munakata had spent such time quelling. Perhaps he had always been unwell, that he'd entertained this in the first place. Perhaps that seed had been there from the start, waiting to be watered in the blood that he'd spilled – that he hadn't wanted to spill, and that was the truth of it, but it changed nothing so why did it matter – and he'd been absolutely lost from the start, from the very moment he'd been caught by the eyes of the beast and decided to take on himself the task of taming the untameable.)
The Sword of Damocles shuddered above his head and Munakata covered his mouth again, petals crushed between his fingers. If this was the end, that was it, he supposed. Unlike what it was meant to be, and unlike himself, but his plans had run dry and the thorns were starting to squeeze at his heart, vines cracking his ribs.
And then –
The Red King.
It was just another illusion, he knew that. Kushina Anna stood there alone, and no one was behind her. Perhaps it was only the Slate again, one last machination from a cornered beast, thinking this might cause him to do – something, to stop this.
But Suoh Mikoto looked right up at him, that lazy half smile on his face that Munakata was so used to, mouthing words that weren't an apology – it wouldn't be like that man at all, to apologize now, and it wasn't what Munakata wanted from him anyway – but which resonated in his ears anyway, shuddering their way down his throat, reaching for his heart.
A red flame burned through the plant rooted there, burning each and every vine and seedling, each small red blossom, each thorn sheared away –
-and for a moment, perhaps, embracing his heart, leaving a burn scar on the surface where no one could see--
The Sword above his head shattered into thousands of glowing blue shards, and one last petal fluttered from Munakata's mouth into his open palm.
There was the faintest whisp on smoke lingering on the tips of his hair, Suoh's brand, and Munakata shook his head with something like a smile on his face.
“Truly an unreasonable man.”
Nothing answered him, but for the first time in a long while his heart seemed to be beating free.

habari x zenjo living in countryside au! inspired frm the “everyone is ok” ask And what if the other s4 members come visit them xD
Imagine them living peacefully in the countryside and then Munakatakeeps showing up to bug them or Shiotsu pops by because the Minatotwins are tiring him out again with their weirdness and he needs abreak from watching the kids and Zenjoh is just like ready for Habarito tell everyone to take a hike so they can have some privacy. Sincewe’re going ‘everyone is okay’ AU maybe in this AU Habari justdecided to retire after having enough of the Red King’s bullshit andhe moves with Zenjoh to a nice house in the countryside (Kagutsu alsodecides he’s had enough of his own bullshit and abdicates too, goingto become a rice farmer somewhere in the rural part of Japan). Zenjohisn’t sure about this 'house in the country’ thing because he thinksit’s a little dull and his skills won’t be of use here. Habariassures him that they will have plenty to do and the next day Zenjohprobably walks downstairs to see Habari wearing nothing but an apronwhile cooking breakfast, Zenjoh almost chokes while Habari waves tohim all calm because he’s probably always wanted to try the apronthing and all Blue Kings are dorks after all.
So the two of them are living happily in their little countrysidehouse spending a lot of time just idly sitting together and chattingor maybe sparring from time to time and it’s very calming. Maybe theyget a couple cats too because Habari noticed that Zenjoh seems toenjoy them and he thought it would be nice to have the extra company.Oh maybe Kusuhara shows up at some point to be unofficially adopted, like since we are talking everyone’s okay AU say he just getsinjured instead of killed and Munakata decides he has the perfectplace for the kid to recover, which is how he ends up on Zenjoh’sdoorstep. Zenjoh is ready to close the door in Munakata’s face butHabari is intrigued by Kusuhara and thinks Zenjoh might get alongwell with him, Kusuhara quickly makes himself useful helping withcooking and cleaning and fixing the computer because Habari andZenjoh both suck at that. Zenjoh does miss some of the privacythough, especially since now Munakata’s decided he has free rein tojust show up unannounced whenever he feels like it and Zenjoh doesn’tsee why Habari won’t let him punch the upstart brat in the face.Shiotsu pops by from time to time and is totally unsurprised by theclose dynamic between Zenjoh and Habari, the three of them probablyhang out on the porch drinking and talking about old times, Shiotsukeeps the two of them posted on all the stuff that’s going on inShizume and Kusuhara makes everyone some soba and they all get tochill away from the drama and chaos of the actual series happenings.
