heeere's the aotc crawl!
repabliki tta senati de kalpa di. ksangokiya halmizeolko di repabliki de kon de naditta na zadakh koriyal. kero orogoti kaunto dooku de rrewa re isagai anakoka di na, torowi jedai naitage di, ovoo re halmiyanssan ade maskar ki jjerediz naraysiyeh ka. nende naboo tta kuin la senatori amidala di, senati tta repabliki de lannadiyeh na. zadakh di, dadiovoo, norangali jjedai naitage a aysaki durali gelissa votoriyi.
no noun class version yet, but here's some vocab notes:
kalpa = dissatisfaction, discontent, disagreement, conflicting wants or needs... it's a broad sort of word.
ksangokiya = lit. 'thousand-and'; it's a real big but unspecific number, used for describing birds in a massive flock and the number of stars visible on a clear night in the countryside.
halmizeolko = 'star system', a political term used to describe sovereign systems (i.e. members of the Republic in their own right, such as Dorin). There is a different term for astronomical systems, and for non-sovereign systems.
kon de naditta = to go away, to leave (future certain tense). nadi on its own doesn't specify the direction of movement, so you add a directional indicator to clarify. This gives you kon de nadi (to go far away), nak de nadi (to come here), ghale nadi (to go south), and many more!
zadakh = purpose, aim, goal, intention; sort of as much a grammatical marker as a word. Combining zadakh and the na intentional particle is sort of like saying "I'm going to [x]" or "The aim here is to [x]". They both sort of mean the same thing but zadakh is much stronger.
kaunto = transliteration of 'Count' lmao. There are no native kel dor titles; their social structure doesn't have a noble class of any sort, so titles like this mostly just get treated as part of the name.
rrewa re = leading. rrewa is the head of a caravan, the one who's guiding you through the trail, blazing a path over safe ground; it's also the growing tip of a branch or a root. To actively lead is rrewanadi, but to have the quality or status of leadership is rrewa re (see the re qualitative particle).
torowi = few, not enough, a vague quantifier expressing insufficient numbers or amounts.
ovoo = trouble, difficulties, awkwardness; specifically trouble that isn't your fault. (Trouble that is your fault is ivooli.) dadiovoo is big trouble.
naraysiyeh = ongoing form of naraysi, meaning to cultivate or care for, typically used in the context of agriculture or custodianship of one's own environment, implies protection and nourishment.
durali = initially a verb meaning 'to fight in defense' (keldeorinyaa can get really specific about violence), then adopted for things like planetary defense forces and ultimately the GAR. (There is lots of debate on whether the GAR counts!)
votoriyi = to vote. Compound of a loanword (vote) and a native verb (riyi, to speak). There's a few similarly-derived words like this (for example, lekturiyaa 'a lecture').

Zadakh were the stalwart guardians of Po-Metru. Built as the strongest of the Vahki, these particular unit types greatly enjoyed open combat. This resulted in many infractions done by law breaking Matoran to go largely ignored because they served little challenge in combat, if any. These Vahki instead preferred taking on rampant Rahi or other great threats to Po-Metru. Interestingly enough, the Zadakh functioned with limited maneuverability. They performed best in open areas.
Aside from the standard Kanoka launcher installed on every Vahki unit, Zadakh units were also equipped with Staffs of Suggestion. These weapons held the power of suggestibility, as their names might hint. Targets under the influence of the staffs’ power became entirely agreeable and open to suggestions from others.

^^^ this. It makes perfect sense that if you're always in fear of the vahki watching through other people, you'll learn to keep your mouth shut, even around those you should be able to trust. It might explain why Whenua is often one of the quieter Toa Metru, and prone to keeping his opinions to himself
It's also kinda neat that you can pair the vahki up into similar powers, and their respective Toa almost pull in perfectly opposite ways to each other
- Nuurakh (Ta) & Zadakh (Po): Staff of Command & Staff of Suggestion: both staffs cause one to follow the orders of others. Vakama results in being very focused on the orders others give him, to the point of destruction, while Onewa is instinctively abrasive to authority and commands
- Vorzahk (Le) & Keerakh (Ko): Staff of Erasing & Staff of Confusion: both meddle with the mind in a way that makes it difficult to trust one's head. Matau relies mostly on his instincts, barrelling into situations without thinking, while Nuju prefers hard logic and reason (things easily lost if struck with a staff of confusion)
- Bordahk (Ga) & Rorzahk (Onu): Staff of Loyalty & Staff of Presence: both make it impossible to trust others. Nokama bears the greatest respect for Unity out of all the Toa (even if she struggles) and preaches on working together, while Whenua seems more comfortable with holding his tongue, as if still expecting the vahki to be listening in
I'm collecting interpretations and headcanons how each vahki of a Metru narratively relates to why the Toa Metru are lonely / to their worst issues.
So far, I have the easiest time with Nokama and Onewa.
- Bordakh, Ga-Metru, and Nokama: Explained well by other tumblrs. Staffs of Loyalty instill an overwhelming desire for order in their victims. The victims often would corner troublemakers and betray friends.
It would discourage matoran from making close bonds, keeping others at a distance. Said 'order' probably means that socializing is to be kept at a minimum - no informal groups that can gather and do their own thing unlike what they're supposed to do -, and work to be prioritized. It's safer to be professional at all times rather than being seen as disruptive.
Nokama's friends don't recognize her as a toa and she doesn't approach them again to clear the situation up. The only friend she goes to is Vhisola. She seems to be clinging to her almost as much as she clings to Nokama, overlooking a lot of her concerning behaviors. As if she's starved for connection.
Nokama has a breakdown as a toa hordika, screaming that she's still a toa. A hordika isn't what a toa is supposed to be like. But it also implies that she held such standards for herself before, too.
- Zadakh, Po-Metru, and Onewa: Staffs of Suggestion make victims susceptible to suggestions from others. But Zadakh enlist other matoran to influence the victim.
Similar to the Staff of Loyalty, the culture this would foster would be one of fear of making close bonds. But rather that they are forced to betray their friends - so they're not at fault -, the victims are the vulnerable ones.
Even if Zadakh used their staffs the least. Their presence alone plus the staff incidents that happened could've been enough to sow paranoia in some parts of Po-Metru. Who's to say how the vahki choose matoran to oversee the victims? Did they use that to fracture mutual support structures? Or was it rumors?
Can you trust your peers and superiors not to take advantage of your condition? Isn't it better you keep working all the time?
This would add to Onewa's bitterness and distrust of others. He could've seen peers use and betray their addled fellow po-matoran. He could've heard rumors that re-enforced his beliefs. He rather works alone the entire time, out of sight, than be vulnerable at the hands of another matoran.
Onewa's also very bossy. He'd hate the Staff of Suggestions' existence alone.

Ended up looking through some old photos, so throwback to some stuff I made years ago I actually still like:
-H.A.M. Evo (Heavy Artillery Mod; bulky armor and tons of weapons are still a top aesthetic for me)
-Perfect Cell MoC (favorite DBZ villain so I had to give it a try, shoulders are too wide and the head needs redone but I’m still fairly proud of it)
-Exo-Zadakh and Shinryu Zadakh (the evolution of my super original self-MoC and what he looks like wearing the corpse of a Final Fantasy superboss)
