#Zacchaeus wasn't saying that he would restitute anyone he had wronged just to sound cool or pious - he *knew* it would COST him

Jesus: "It's easier for a camel to pass through the hole of a needle than for a rich person to go to Heaven."
Jesus: "A servant can't serve two lords, because they will love one and hate the other. You can't serve both God and Money."
Jesus: "That widow who donated two coins donated more than the rich person who filled the vase with money."
Jesus: "Don't store up treasures on Earth. (...) For where your treasure is, there will be your heart."
Jesus: "Don't worry yourself sick about owning things. God always rewards work with the means for you to survive (food) and even the little luxuries you need to express yourself (fine clothing)."
Jesus: "Don't be like that rich fool that worked so hard to accumulate grain and was so happy when he finally got to a point that he owned enough to never go hungry again. He died that same night, so what was all that for?"
Jesus: "Woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry."
Jesus (to a pious rich person): "Oh, you observe all ten commandments since youth? Good. But if you really want to go to Heaven, sell everything you have, donate to the poor and follow me."
(and I could go on, but you got the point)
----
"Christian" leaders: "If you work hard you will make lots of money because having lots of money is a sign that Jesus loves and blesses you! :)"
#jesus#capitalism#riches#religious hypocrites#theology of prosperity#it's honestly amazing how some churches dodge those teachings like Neo dodging bullets#considering you don't even have to page that much through the evangelists to get examples of Jesus throwing shade towards richness#one of the few rich people he complimented heartily was Zacchaeus who was famous for giving half of his riches to the poor when met Jesus#and pledged to restitute fourfold any wrongdoings he commited when taking taxes#he is the polar opposite of the pious rich boy who got sad when Jesus asked him to donate his money and got away#and make no mistake Zacchaeus wasn't a saint before meeting Jesus for Jesus said He was 'saving a soul that was lost' that night#Zacchaeus wasn't saying that he would restitute anyone he had wronged just to sound cool or pious - he *knew* it would COST him#thus the reason why Jesus complimented him and stated that he was that unicorn rich that gets to go to Heaven#so you read it here first folks - rich people who want to go to Heaven better start working in not being *that* rich anymore
