Cruel Intentions Trailer
I'm seriously racking my brain for a movie / book / TV series (other than Legally Blonde, but the movie isn't really about Delta Nu, is it) in which the sorority/fraternity life is portrayed positively.
After a hazing incident during a Greek event at the elite Manchester College, step-siblings Caroline and Lucien try to lie, seduce, and deceive their way out of trouble.
Cruel Intentions the series, an updated version of the 1999 film, Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, Khobe Clarke, John Harlan Kim, Brooke Lena Johnson, and Sean Patrick Thomas.
Cruel Intentions the series releases to Prime Video on November 21, 2024.

Prime Video Unveils Trailer for New ‘Cruel Intentions’ Series
It’s still a bittersweet symphony. Prime Video just released the trailer for its upcoming series Cruel Intentions, and it looks deliciously twisted. The new teen drama is a “ruthless,” modern take on the cult classic 1999 film of the same name. Continue reading Prime Video Unveils Trailer for New ‘Cruel Intentions’ Series

Ep 295: Your True Halloween Stories III
"I glanced around the room before noticing something odd...a hand reaching around the door frame and resting on the wall, palm flat...it was like a void and had long pointy fingers."  -- Damon, one of tonight's guests
Description:
Once more unto the breach of Halloween, dear friends, once more, as we drift dreamily into some of our listeners’ most eerie encounters! We begin tonight’s fearsome festivities with an account from Kamal, who discovered some ghostly confirmation in “Grandma’s Photo Album.” Listener Holly and her nephew are visited both day and night by a little girl they could consider “Our Imaginary Friend.” Next, while on deployment in East Africa with the Army National Guard, Zac and his fellow soldiers make “Contact in the Desert” with an otherworldly being. While giving a tour at the historic and haunted Belleview-Biltmore Hotel in Florida, Joseph gets spectrally tackled, giving him the “Groundskeeper Willies.” Damon’s story shows that even when you unwittingly stare into the void, “The Void Stares Back.” And finally, when listener Alison is supernaturally harassed and goaded to “Wake up, Ali!” she learns that we thankfully have champions in the spiritual warfare between good and evil. Please join us for our spooky season tradition, where the most astonishing thing is our listeners and their actual experiences.

Cortland: 2023 NCAA Division III Football National Champions
Tumblr media
SALEM, Va. (AP) — Zac Boyes threw for 349 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards, Cortland stopped a 2-point conversion attempt with 90 seconds remaining, and the Red Dragons beat defending champion North Central 38-37 on Friday night for their first NCAA Division III championship.
Cortland (14-1), playing in the Stagg Bowl for the first time in program history, handed North Central (14-1) its first loss since the 2021 championship game. The Cardinals, in their fourth straight title game, won the 2019 national title in addition to last year.
Both teams scored in the final 1:41 — with North Central electing to go for 2 instead of a potential tying extra point with 1:20 to go. Quarterback Luke Lehnen was stuffed on a run to the left side and Cortland recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.
“It means everything. I was over there talking to the officials on the sideline when we were kneeling it out and I’m like ‘We can kneel it, right? We can kneel it out and clock’s at zero’ and he said yes,” Cortland coach Curt Fitzpatrick said. “I can’t believe it. It’s amazing. I’m so proud of our players and coaches and our fan base that drove seven hours to be here.”
Cortland converted on a fourth-and-5 play near midfield with 3:49 to go in the fourth quarter and Cole Burgess ended the drive with a catch in the backfield before racing down the sideline for a 21-yard touchdown.
North Central scored 21 seconds later when DeAngelo Hardy was left wide open over the middle of the field and he cut back a defender to race for a 60-yard touchdown. The Cardinals, who average 60 points per game and rarely kick field goals, were denied back-to-back championship on the goal line.
North Central entered with the nation’s longest active win streak with 29. South Dakota State, which won its FCS semifinal game on Friday, has 28 straight wins, followed by Washington (20), Florida State (19) and Division II Harding (18).
The Red Dragons’ trip to the title game included three road victories and one at home — ending in a 12th straight victory.
Three of the first four drives of the game ended in fourth down stops in the red zone.
Cortland avoided being shutout in the first half of a game for the first time since 2016 when it drove 55 yards in 51 seconds — aided by a 15-yard penalty — to get within 7-3 after Mike Baloga’s 31-yard field goal.
Cortland began the second half with a seven play, 72-yard drive ending in Burgess’ 9-yard touchdown grab for a 10-7 lead. A video replay overturned the call on the field as Burgess got a foot down before going out of bounds.
It was just the second time all season that North Central trailed in a game — with the other coming in the fourth quarter of the semifinals.
North Central tied it at 31-all with 7:16 remaining on Lehnen’s 64-yard run.
Lehnen, who won the Gagliardi Trophy, the premier D-III individual award, threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 159 yards and another score for North Central. Joe Sacco added 159 yards rushing, including his 20th rushing touchdown of the season, to reach the 100-yard mark for the 11th time this season. Hardy made five catches for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Boyes became the second quarterback in school history to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100. Burgess finished with 11 catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns for Cortland. Joe Iadevaio also had two touchdown grabs and 95 yards. JJ Laap made two catches for 75 yards and a score.
North Central’s third made field goal of the season — in three attempts — came with 3:16 left in the third quarter to tie it at 17-all.

isn't puss in boots a fairly smart, calculating character in the stories he's from? like a super planner-in-advance, several steps ahead kind of character? because if zac's playing him like that i'm so hyped to see zac play an incredibly smart character again, he's so delightful when he does :D

Cages in the Sandman: Sleep of the Just
One thing I really appreciate the handling of in the Sandman show is the cage- or should i say cages in the first episode. Dream's and Alex's, that is. I'd like to give this frame in particular (and the scene it belongs to) as an example:
Tumblr media
There are several things I enjoy about this frame, and not just that it looks gorgeous. I love that the iron bar of Dream's cage is between their hands, literally and visually keeping them separate from each other. I love that the arch of the basement over Alex's head mirrors the iron arch over Dream's, the shape of Dream's cage rippling out into the world surrounding him, the thing that Roderick Burgess built trapping not only Dream but himself and Alex too.
I love that the mirroring is not 1:1. The camera itself is tilted at an angle, and Dream's cage isn't exactly flat, either. Despite being both caged they are not on equal footing. Dream is suspended, precarious- and actually, if we were to right the angle, Dream would be reaching down to Alex... but he isn't. In fact Alex is almost looming over Dream here, still visually in a position of power despite it not quite looking the same were we to see the same image flat.
I also love the stark difference in lighting and clothes, which I feel tie together in this shot. There are seven light sources in frame alone, all in the basement and outside Dream's cage, and yet Alex is cast in darkness as well as dark clothes in contrast to Dream who despite the lack of lighting is illuminated and vulnerable. For Alex he can afford to hide in his father's shadow- it's not his fault, Roderick was the one who imprisoned Dream, etc... while Dream doesn't have a choice but to have everything on display against his will. And, it's of course a reminder that to at least one person, Alex cannot hide from his mistakes. He has no choice but to see Dream exactly as he is: starved, naked, alone, and continuing to be this way unless Alex makes the choice to free him, which he doesn't.
Finally, I love that this takes place after Jessamy has been killed, and after Roderick has died. Alex is indignant that Dream treats him the same as his father, but Dream absolutely does not! Even after Alex has murdered Dream's best friend and only hope at getting out, Dream offers a hand out to him, something he never did for Roderick. And it's almost an understanding gesture- almost an I understand that you couldn't free me while your father was here, but now he's not, so now you can!
But he doesn't! Because he's so used to their roles, their separate cages, that he continues to inflict them on both of them! Despite all evidence showing that asking for anything in exchange for freedom Will Not Work Out, he still does it. Despite Dream being perfectly willing to reach out to him pre-demands!
Because by God he's determined to keep them in the exact same cages they've both been in since 1916!

god it really wrecks me sometimes that one of c!dream's motivations is pacifism. and it's so interesting how this interacts with his strategic, ends-justify-means approach.
how he had nothing to do with c!tommy burning c!tubbo's house down at the beginning, and in fact would have been justified to avoid c!tubbo entirely, and yet rebuilt c!tubbo's house from the ground up because he could. and how even recently despite c!eryn having been part of the group trying to stop him from escaping pandora, c!dream was still happy to wordlessly trade with him without inciting anything.
just. the way that at his core, at the beginning of the server and now, c!dream is a person that believes in peace, co-operation, and pacifism. and yet he's turned himself into 'the villain'.
