Quieter GPU Fan Curves With MSI Afterburner

Do you need to make your graphics card a little quieter? Less noise for your graphics card can save your sanity!

The Zotac Zbox is a great small form factor PC but that has its drawbacks.

The fans can sometimes be a little distracting especially in low use situations like browsing and watching movies.

Using MSI Afterburner you can create a custom fan curve to reduce the overall system noise or DB levels.

In this video I manage to drop around 10-15 decibels of the idle and not have any negative effect on the systems performance or gaming abilities.

Maybe you can do the same?

The Zotac Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB in this pc was running at just over 50% fan speed at idle, which in some towers would be undetected, but in this pint sized powerhouse the noise was at a pitch that was starting to annoy me.

I lowered it to its lowest setting which is 40% and managed to reduce the noise to a far more suitable level.

Let me break that down for you. E is the E series of PC, the R5 is for the CPU used. In this particular model the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 at 3.2ghz with 4 cores and 8 threads (nice), 1060 is the reference to the GPU used in the Zbox, in the model they are using the slightly modified Zotac GTX 1060 3GB Mini.The case is around 5 inches tall and not much bigger than an ITX motherboard.Inside is room for a desktop grade CPU and GPU and a 2.5" drive and a M.2 2280 drive (or smaller)The supplied power pack will provide up to around 250w of peak power, which should be more than enough for this setup.You get to choose your own storage, RAM and OS although I would highly recommend Windows 10 or maybe a Linux distro.Once installed and running the box is pretty near silent with the fans occasionally ramping up for WIndows Updates :-)But gaming is where this Zbox is aimed, and it hits the mark. Very enjoyable with CSGO at full graphically settings at 1080p with well over 150 fps, and Fortnite was a similar deal with full eye candy still hitting minimums of 60 fps with highs over 100.Small size BIG power. That sums it up really.
