Decades after many other rich countries stopped forcibly sterilizing Indigenous women, numerous activists, doctors, politicians and at least five class-action lawsuits say the practice has not ended in Canada. A Senate report last year concluded “this horrific practice is not confined to the past, but clearly is continuing today.” In May, a doctor was penalized for forcibly sterilizing an Indigenous woman in 2019.[...]
There are no solid estimates on how many women are still being sterilized against their will or without their knowledge, but Indigenous experts say they regularly hear complaints about it. Sen. Yvonne Boyer, whose office is collecting the limited data available, says at least 12,000 women have been affected since the 1970s.[...]
In 2018, the U.N. Committee Against Torture told Canada it was concerned about persistent reports of forced sterilization, saying all allegations should be investigated and those found responsible held accountable.[...]
Until the 1990s, Indigenous people were mostly treated in racially segregated hospitals, where there were reports of rampant abuse. It’s difficult to say how common sterilization — with or without consent — happens. Canada’s national health agency doesn’t routinely collect sterilization data, including the ethnicity of patients or under what conditions it happens.[...] In response to questions from the AP, the Canadian government said it has taken steps to try to stop forced sterilization, including investing more than 87 million Canadian dollars ($65 million) to improve access to “culturally safe” health services, one-third of which supports Indigenous midwifery initiatives.[...]
In 1976, the U.S. found that forced sterilizations happened in at least one-third of the regions where the government provided health services to Native Americans. The U.S. government has never formally apologized or offered compensation. Indigenous leaders in Canada say an official apology would be a critical step towards rebuilding the country’s fractured relationship with First Nations people. Only the province of Alberta has apologized and offered some compensation to those affected before 1972.

G20: mayors from around the world gather in Rio to present key demands
Document estimates cities will need $800 billion annually until 2030 to tackle climate change challenges
After four days of discussions at the Armazém da Utopia in Rio's port area, the Urban 20 (U20)—a G20 forum that brings together leaders from major cities worldwide—concluded yesterday with the presentation of a document to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The document was signed by representatives from the 26 member cities of the U20, along with seven observer cities and 25 invited cities, totaling over 100 cities represented in the discussions. The document focuses on addressing climate change issues, emphasizing that local governments will need approximately $800 billion annually until 2030 for investments to mitigate urban impacts.
Lula received the document from Rio's Mayor Eduardo Paes, alongside Mayors Yvonne Aki-Sawyer of Freetown, Sierra Leone's capital, and Anne Hidalgo of Paris. Chilean President Gabriel Boric also attended the ceremony as a guest. The expectation is for the Brazilian government to present the document at the main G20 summit, happening today and tomorrow at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), with the participation of heads of state and government from the world's largest economies. The document contains 36 items covering topics such as social inclusion, combating hunger and poverty, reforming global governance institutions, sustainable development, and energy transition.
Upon receiving the document, Lula stated that "cities cannot bear the cost alone (…) of financing the climate transition" and stressed the need for both global investment and "appropriate multilateral governance."

Honestly, these last few shifts have Yvonne tired as hell. Eight cups of coffee and maybe a sacrifice of her very soul later she finds herself standing in the courtyard. Usually it’s occupied by at least a few others, but it’s empty for now. The nurse spots her bird friend hanging out on a tree nearby and approaches it while reaching into her pocket.
Nobody’s around so they CANNOT call her a nut. She’s gotta stay at the top of the food chain here after all.
She takes something shiny from her pocket; a pin of a crow napping in a heart shaped nest. “Got it at a farmer’s market during my lunch break the other day. It reminded me of you, lil birdie.” She lets out a tired but tender giggle and stands on her toes to give the crow a little smooch on the top of its head, then the tip of its beak.
“Why can’t my dates be as sweet as you? You always listen, you bring me shiny stuff too, and like, your feathers are really soft.” Aw, she’s attached to her bird friend! “Maybe I can "princess and the frog" it up in here. If I give you another kiss, would you turn into a pretty royal and sweep me away?”
Another tired laugh leaves her at the thought of such a far-fetched scenario. “Who am I kidding, I’m not a princess. But I know that I would love to take a nap right now.”
At this point, the crow has made a habit of hanging around this part of the courtyard whenever it has some downtime. It's an unexpected twist to its routine, but ever since one of the nurses struck up a friendship with it and started treating it like a somewhat more interactive sounding board for hospital gossip and exhausted rants, it's found that 'socializing' like this wasn't that bad.
(It certainly wasn't because both the man and the intern occasionally handing the crow have both become invested in hospital gossip and were eager for me, no ma'am. Hospital gossip has certainly not become some kind of communal interest at Onychinus HQ.)
It snaps out of power saving mode upon Yvonne's arrival, perking up and stretching out its wings. It's interest is piqued by whatever it was she was searching her pockets for. It hops down to a lower branch, curious, and hoping it wasn't more seeds. The engineers were starting to get annoyed by its chassis always being full of food.
The design of the pin catches it by surprise. It moves its head down to take a better look, and there was a visible temptation in its eyes for it to take the shiny thing.
But it doesn't--the kisses take it by surprise, and it turns its attention fully onto Yvonne as she laments and muses about dream scenarios and wishful thinking.
(Both the man and the nosy intern sit at the desk. They'd love to ask about Yvonne's day because surely there's a reason why she's talking about all this, but it wasn't as though they the means to without arousing suspicion or alarm.)
There isn't much that the crow can do to help Yvonna get some rest. At most it flies off briefly, making haste because it knows she doesn't have that much time for a break, before returning with a little something in its beak.
It's a small prepacked cookie, still sealed, like the ones little kids get as treats. It offers it to her, a little hopeful.
(There's a small heated discussion breaking out between the man and the intern. Don't mind them, they both just think they're right.)

Movie Review | The Curse of the Werewolf (Fisher, 1961)
Terence Fisher is too classy a director to go full bozo mode and have non-stop Oliver Reed running around as a werewolf. Instead he has things like story and what have you filling up most of the runtime. To his credit, the story stuff is pretty involving, and this does not paint an especially flattering portrait of society. And as he'd done a few of these things before, he has a great handle on the production design and makes this look pretty tasty.
We actually don't get any wolfman or even wolfboy for the first third of the movie, which takes place before the wolfman is born, and instead dramatic investment depends on Yvonne Romain, who plays a mute servant girl who finds herself at the mercy of a cruel nobleman played by Anthony Dawson and is raped by a drunken beggar played by Richard Wordsworth, which leads to her giving birth to the wolfman. Given that she has no dialogue and her characterization can be summed up as "swarthy heaving bosoms", she brings a surprising amount of pathos to the role. Anyway, drunkenness and losing control prove to be recurring motifs in the movie, so Reed's casting makes a lot of sense in retrospect.
Anyway, Oliver Reed is a very intense performer, and he pours a lot of that into the character, getting a lot out of his character's sweating and squirming pre-transformation, and making his werewolf mode rampage scenes extra physical. So yeah, you do eventually get Reed running around as a werewolf if you stick it out until the end, and these scenes certainly deliver.

If you have time and don't mind, I'd love for you to work your backstory magic ✨ The only things about her that are certain is that her name is Yvonne and is an aspiring (if a bit too invested) journalist. She's also in a poly relationship 💜
Yvonne, sometimes called Von (but you should ask first), grew up on the Eastside of San My. the youngest of 7. with so many voices to compete with in her own home, she took to writing early. she won Essay of the Day twice in the Arts District youth writing competition when she was 12. always got A's in literature. never interested in the basics like poetry, she is fascinated by the world around her and chose to write about it. a natural investigator with so many siblings. chose journalism for obvious reasons. hopes to discover her real father. has suspicions that moms husband is not her dad. is the only redhead in the family. never eats a whole gummie. only drinks apple juice. irrational fear of penguins because "why are they so TALL?". once had a gerbil but it ran away. bubblegum chewer. can do the splits. pigeon-toed.
*****
So I'm clearing out these asks from yesterday! Thanks for being patient friends! Also not taking any new ones because, story stuff.

Can you rank the 9 40min + episodes( including before ever after and plus et en vouz)
I'm going to rank these based on initial reaction, both my own and the fandom's, and give a bit of a description as to why I put it where I did. Note that this order doesn't necessarily reflect the order in which I find them the most entertaining to watch.
Destines Collide - I feel like, in terms of what people were anticipating by this point in the series (we all knew someone would betray Rapunzel, there was the theory about Eugene being the Dark Prince flying around, we wanted to know what would happen when Rapunzel touched the Moonstone, etc), this episode was the most satisfying to watch.
Queen For a Day - I remember watching this episode with a sense of "Oh, god, I know none of these people are going to die here, but by god, are they giving me a heart attack watching them go through all this!" And then the ending, where Varian goes villain? MWAH! *chef's kiss* Fantastic storytelling.
Rapunzel and the Great Tree - This episode introduced the concept of the Reverse Incantation, as well as really gave us fodder for Cassandra's eventual betrayal. And even though a lot of these major plot points were eventually brushed under the rug, at the time, they were such a huge deal and sparked so much debate in the fandom.
Cassandra's Revenge - While I find this the most satisfying portrayal of Cassandra as a villain, it doesn't change the fact that the whole time I was wishing she'd just stay committed to the bit instead of being wishy-washy. Still, it has the reveal of Eugene's birthday and age, and Rapunzel wanting to propose to Eugene, not to mention that absolutely epic battle, and proof positive that "Enchanted Girl" was indeed Zhan Tiri, in case anyone still had any doubts.
Tangled: Before Ever After - The one that started it all, and the episode I've seen the most times. Did you know I watched it literally eleven times the day after it aired? I watched it live the night before, then just ran it On Demand all day the next day. I do have some complaints with a few things, but overall, it got us going. It gave us a reason (sort of) for the hair to return, and it was just so nice to see my baes (and their animal sidekicks) again.
Beyond the Corona Walls - My dudes, I cannot explain how shook up the New Dream fans were to learn that Eugene had been previously engaged, and for those of us who know Chuck (the series) to have found out that Yvonne Strahovski was going to be playing her. This was the third party interference that so many had been waiting for. Not to mention, Rapunzel was finally getting to see the world, at last! Very important!
Secret of the Sundrop - You would not believe how much Rapunzel forgiving Frederic and never getting to bring up his gross invasion of privacy did to sour my mood for a big chunk of this episode. Also, by the time it aired, I wasn't particularly invested in Varian's arc (due to overexposure). I was, however, extremely interested to see how Rapunzel was standing up for herself and not just letting Frederic keep her locked away. I loved seeing her actually harness the power of the black rocks and control them. I loved the wall breaking, even though she hadn't directly told the rocks to do it. "Ready As I'll Ever Be" became such a phenomenon, it brought a lot of people to the series who hadn't even heard of it because it was suggested on YouTube.
Rapunzel's Return - I spent the majority of my first watch-through of this episode angry. I really, really hate that Gothel is Cassandra's mother, and the fact that they not only made that canon, but made that the focal point of her betrayal really pissed me off and soured my mood for most of the episode. It's good, though, it really is. Varian's redemption was a little rushed, but was still satisfying, and I like that he came to the conclusion on his own that he was in the wrong. I also like that Rapunzel got to tell him what I'd been saying for a year or so (and still am).
Plus Est En Vous - I'm not going to lie; by the time this episode aired, I was very ready for the series to be over. There's a lot - and I mean a lot - that I actively dislike about it. There are also several good points in it for me, though, but most of them are moments at best, rather than entire scenes. The best part is literally the very end. If it hadn't ended on the proposal, I probably wouldn't like this episode. I will always have the fond memory of having watched it with @kelseyfitzherbert, though. She came to visit me just for the finale, but of course we also went to Disneyland the day before and got New Dream hugs, and we got tattoos together later that day (they don't match, but they are both Tangled-related). So the events surrounding this episode, I'm very fond of, while the episode itself, not so much.

The Baronet
Engeram Tarman was granted the title of baronet due to a significant sea-faring investment that returned a huge fortune to the Kingdom of Damrel. It's uncommon for upper gentry to maintain their businesses, but Engeram is a sailor at heart and can't give it up. He often cavorts with his old pirate buddies in the dark of night.
Ida Tarman is the wife of the baronet, andalways likes things just so. She has an additional position in business as a travelling merchant/negotiator for her husband's business. She's devoted to her husband, but don't think she wouldn't leave him the second the opportunity struck to rise up the social ladder.
Cookie Hugh was the cook aboard Engeram's vessel long ago, and they've stayed close ever since. Cookie was a person of interest in the attempted assassination of the queen, and was eventually proven innocent...but can he be trusted?
Ida and the Baronet found Rosaline in a basket along the shoreline of an island they were pillaging in their pirate days. To earn her keep as their adopted daughter (big bold question mark), Rosaline works as an indentured servant. The ethics are questionable.
Davit and Yvonne are twins! One day, one of them will inherit the baronetcy, and the other will keep the shop alive...hopefully.
Tyon and Vanora are also twins...lot of twins in this family.

2.21.23 (but actually drawn at least a month ago - and now posted 6.2.23) - some xy fic sketches. rambles beneath the cut
.
in my Great Fanfiction Rewrite of the (X)Y plot because it was sadly lacking in some places, Calem/Xavier kinda sorta joins Team Flare! To be honest this isn't my 100% original idea, I saw someone post once on here somewhere how cool it would've been if your rival, frustrated with constantly losing to you, joined Team Flare in desperation to beat you. I have taken this concept and am running with it. Xavier in my story Did Not take kindly to losing the Mega Ring to Yvonne: a rookie trainer, a girl, a girl who doesn't fall into his preconceived notions of what a young female trainer should be like, a girl he initially assumed he would be in a relationship with and he'd be the tough trainer in contrast to her contest abilities, someone from a poorer family from his. He gets uhh a little wild trying to prove his might makes right (deeply sheltered child who was never exposed to anything that would upset him syndrome)
In my head Y is the canon, but I'm doing a ramshackle combo into a tentative Z in which Yvonne and Yveltal fight Lysandre together, but also Xavier and Xerneas at some point and Zygarde is there too as a result of Team Flare managing to find BOTH legendaries (who in the anime were depicted as being right on top of each other) but only figuring out how to use Yveltal in the Ultimate Weapon. Xavier steals the Poke Flute and uses it to wake Xerneas (willingly or not - he's irrational, but IDK how down he'd be for the "destroy the world" plot, but Xerneas DEFINITELY uses ~fairy powers~ to fuck with his mind)
Yvonne has vitiligo! Dyes her hair blonde for the first halfish of the game, lets it grow out to its natural brown as a symbolic representation of not wanting to conform to certain beauty standards. She starts wearing very snazzy suits post-game, avoiding short sleeves and skirts
My HC is that Sycamore is her da! He and Grace were an item back in the day when Grace was in Kalos Rhyhorn racing, and she only realized she was pregnant when she'd already left. Sycamore didn't feel ready at all to be an active father, and Grace didn't feel any strong need to be in a relationship with him/have him be a part of Yvonne's life with a strong circle of friends and family who'd help with childrearing, so he stayed in Kalos and continued his work on evolution and Fairy Types in Kalos, every other month or so receiving an email of an update of Yvonne's life in progress. Eventually Grace's racing injuries/chronic pain is too debilitating to continue racing, and Sycamore offers his grandparents' cottage in the starting town. Yvonne knows her father is an academic/scientist in Kalos but doesn't know it's him, and doesn't want to know until she's more comfortable in the region. She DOES start to suspect though, but only confirms it mid/post-Geosenge crisis (haven't decided how long that's drawn out) in a hospital bed. Sycamore (after years of watching his daughter grow up from afar, and has become more invested in her life in the past few years) is delighted that she's willing have a familial connection
a lot of people draw Yveltal as a bird (super cool, no judgement) but it's very dragon-y to me with the hands/wings, kinda like how bat wings are just elongated fingers with skin between them. The logic of the tail eludes me though. It's Yvonne's buddy post game! As much as she does not want it to be her buddy! But when a super powerful ancient deity of death decides it wants to be your friend there's not a lot you can do to stop it. She warms up to it eventually. They have a fun time threatening Malva together
Korrina is a sports lesbian
Shauna slight redesign. She and Yvonne become an item around Laverre. In my story there's a cool Ren Faire-ish thing happening when they arrive and they both get a little tipsy and kiss and spend the evening running around in semi-accurate reenactment dresses giggling and dancing and giving each other wildflowers
Gogoat =)
#pokemon#xy#gen 6#serena#yvonne#calem#xavier#yveltal#sketch#my art#this has been languishing in my drafts long enough

Looks like our investment in race hustling is not going to generate any returns. What a big surprise.
A Black Lives Matter activist, who was instrumental in the infamous protest that toppled the statue of Sir Edward Colston, has pleaded guilty to fraud after money donated to a fundraising page she established went missing.
Xahra Saleem, 23, who is also known as Yvonne Maina, pled guilty this month to one count of fraud at the Bristol Crown Court after £30,000 in donations from the public disappeared.
Saleem, a founding member of the BLM-offshoot ‘All Black Lives Bristol’ group, had established an online fundraiser in the days prior to the toppling of the Colston statue, in order to allegedly raise funds for the George Floyd-inspired protest.
According to a report from The Times, the fundraiser promised to donate any additional funds to a local charity to subsidise the cost of a trip to Africa for deprived local children in Bristol. However, the youth group, Changing Your Mindset, claimed that it never received the money and raised the issue with local police. The youth group later shut down entirely after reportedly being disillusioned over the incident.
Saleem was charged with fraud “while occupying a position, namely organiser, in which you were expected to safeguard or not act against the financial interests of ABL Bristol”.
“You dishonestly abused that position intending to make a gain, namely used the funds raised for yourself,” the charge added.
While a trial was planned for December, Saleem appeared before the Bristol Crown Court on September 19th to plead guilty to the charge. She will be sentenced next month.

PLEASE TALK ABOUT YVONNE !!!! ifeel like i barely know her character
@acollectionofcuriousreblogs HEAHEHEHE YES WIN okay so this will moooatly be abt specificlaly yvonne and her friendship with jedidiah . id love to analyze yvonne on her own but its a little difficult at the moment with the material given to us (mayfield please give yvonne stuff to do outside of interact w her male friends im begging) so i have to analyze them thru the lens of their dynamic w jedidiah . but it will go into a lot of what that Reveals abt yvonne as a person also (: and what i think they have in common!! so so basically i think an underrepresented aspect of yvonnes charavter is that theyr .... pretty much the Only person besides sydney to expressly convey that she Misses jedidiah . and that she wants to spend more time with him . yes him and joshua seemed to have been maybe-friends (although they both have a kinda noticable disdain for each other and joshua says jeddie hated him so idk) as well but theres a clear difference marked between their investment in this, exemplified by lines like
this interaction, which carries the weight that while joshua wants to help Sydney, yvonne Specifically is the one that wants to help jedidiah . theres a clear contrast in the phrasing used - joshua's desire to help sydney is emphasized, and yvonnes desire to help jedidiah is a separate one that is emphasized separately. another example of this would be the fact that yvonnes college story is a story about Jedidiah, and joshua's attempts to relate to jedidiah (referencing how he used to be sydneys roommate, as well as the hotdog story) are both stories about Sydney. yes, joshua is trying to reach out to jedidiah as well, but there is a clear implication created in multiple ways that yvonne is significantly closer to him. which means a Lot when the amount of people who are significantly close to jedidiah is Slim. and again, most of the emotional moments of connection that attempt to bring jedidiah out of his shell are from yvonne also:
as well as her being as far as im aware . the Only person besides sydney Ever to express a desire to be with jedidiah more and be friends with him in the present tense, and imply that she misses him:
again, this contrast between joshua and yvonnes level of closeness with jedidiah is drawn!! yvonne says we are worried about you, but i like chatting to you. i want to do it more. which is fascinating!! why do we not talk abt this more!! jedidiahs avoidance doesnt only hurt sydney, it hurts yvonne as well - we know that its been bothering them all summer, and theyve been talking to joshua about it:
WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT IS ABLE TO GET THROUGH TO JEDIDIAH!!!!!! i think jedidiah analyses need to analyze his relationship to yvonne more genuinely . yvonne talking to jedidiah and telling him that hes hurting them is Able to get through to him to some small degree, gets him to acknowledge his behavior - i think that speaks a lot to how much their relationship stands strong, because again, like yvonne says, jedidiah does not like confiding in anyone.
and speaking of confiding!! jedidiah does the Most emotional soulbaring in this episode to yvonne (and joshua yeah but again ive shown earlier that the emphasis is a lot less on joshuas friendship) than he does to Anyone besides sydney or his mother. jedidiah talks about Deep rooted feelings that he feels horrible about having with them. Jedidiah Talks About Things He Feels Guilty About. that goes against so much of what weve seen of his character!!!! so much of jedidiahs time is spent avoiding confronting his guilt, avoiding confiding in anyone, locking himself and his emotions away - i think jeddie opening up in this scene speaks Volumes to how much his friendship with yvonne means to him, i really do think that. the fact that jeddie and yvonne arent listed on each others relationship sections in the wiki is a Crime but i digress - they clearly care about each other
but Why . this is a lot of shit about their friendship Now, but why do they feel so close to each other? what brings them together? yvonnes dedication to hanging out with jedidiah and bringing him out of his shell abd worrying about him is a pattern of behavior:
which we know from this scene here - yvonne has wanted to be close and have fun and hang out with jedidiah since college, this isnt a situation where shes just worried about a guy she knew in college being weird - they have Always liked jedidiah and wanted to hang out with him. they genuinely like yhe guy!!!!! i keep reemphasizing this but i feel like their friendship is really underanalyzed.
but again . that doesnt explain Why theyr friends . this is a lot less evidence based and a lot more me interpreting yvonnes character in my silly little brain, but i think it largely comes from the fact that theyre Similar and yvonne reaches out to that . obviously they both have a common interest in video games lol but im more talking about the fact that they both seem to be generally kind of bad at confiding their emotions in others? i get the feeling that yvonne doesnt like being vulnerable, particularly from this back and forth:
my interpretation of this is that yvonne doesnt Like sharing their emotions with people other than joshua - it doesnt come naturally for them, just like it doesnt for jedidiah. expressing that you miss a friend of yours whos been isolating himself isnt an extremely embarrassing thing to say, and joshua isnt even saying That - just that yvonnes been Bothered by it. but thats enough to get them frazzled and on the defensive, trying to get joshua to shut up. i think yvonne and jedidiah both have difficulties with expressing their emotions to others and i think thats why yvonne is drawn to jeddie - they both have this same shared difficulty, and its comforting to be with people with similar struggles to you. i think we can even sort of see this in how, like i mentioned earlier, yvonne has been waiting to tell jedidiah this All Summer - but didnt tell him in this moment. why didnt they? why are they practicing this whole monologue at all? i think its because emotional vulnerability is something they struggle with, and jedidiah is the same way. they can connect over that.
also i just think yvonne thinks jedidiahs fun and they like being around people they find fun!! i can do all this analysis but i just genuinely think they like each other!! and jedidiah seems to joke about with yvonne in a similar way to sydney on occasion, so i think theres a reason to think its reciprocal. i also think that the combination of their similarities and differences clicks in a way rhat makes them enjoy each other a lot - on the one hand, jedidiah is nervous and skittish and extremelt christian, and yvonne is a quote "fun-loving troublemaker" (can you tell i read the wiki a lot for this post) and a party goth. being w people who are different from you is fun, but at their core, theyre pretty similar - they have a common interest in video games which is really important in a friendship, they both have difficulty being vulnerable with their emotions (although yvonne seems to have a healthy outlet in joshua and seems to make much more of an attempt to overcome this flaw than jedidiah does, so i actually think yvonne would be a reallt healthy friendship for jedidiah going forwards as i think theyr someone who could be helpful and a good example to follow), and they honestly both seem to have a similar sense of humor. idk that might just be the sense of humor of the show but they seem to have good rapport with each other with dry jokes when jedidiah loosens up a little.
also i couldnt really fit this into the flow but:
i think this scene is fun i like that they had Adventures together and i like that jedidiah says he "didnt know how to talk to people" past tense as if this isnt ABSOLUTELY still the case. but also the fact that yvonne was the best thing about college for him?? SO sweet but also makes me SO sad that their friendship isnt so close anymore. jedidiah really cares about her!!!! i couldnt fit this into the flow properly but i think its important to notice that jedidiah absolutely cares for yvonne too!!!!!
thank u for ur time . they r one of my favorite relationships in the entire show and by far my favorite friendship
#jedidiah martin#yvonne marley#i like chatting abt them#sorry if i messed anything up here i read transcripts like thirty times#but i am fallible . alas

Born on this day: dancer turned actress Yvonne Craig (16 May 1937 - 17 August 2015) - immortalised in popular culture for her role as Batgirl in the campy 1960s TV series Batman. Interestingly, the podcast Gayest Episode Ever recently celebrated Batgirl as an LGBTQ icon, persuasively arguing, “the final season of the 1966 live-action Batman series saw the debut of Batgirl, a twirling, high-kicking female hero created to get more girls invested in the series — and more dads to keep paying attention. But Batgirl’s creators didn’t count on the fact that they were creating the exact kind of character that little gay boys would become obsessed with. Thanks in part to Yvonne Craig’s spot-on performance, Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) became one of the most queer-friendly aspects to an already queer series.” And no one ever looked better in a sparkly purple catsuit! Hellooo mun!!! If you met your muse (or muses, if you wanna do both or just the birb) how do you think that interaction would go like?
((omg hello!! gosh ahsjdk tbh i never really thought about it because i don't even like the idea of any of the actual canon characters interacting with me personally [see: @dolasach's reason for existence + this blog honestly just being made so that i could have a reason to interact with the rp blogs without having to bring out my oc] but this did get me thinking >v<
for the crow:
crows are honestly extremely rare where i live, at most i see them as small black figures in the sky when they're flying off. so if i got the meet the crow irl i think i'd be genuinely thrilled?
as in. i would go through the motions of trying to befriend the thing and also play the part of a fool that tries to feed a mechanical bird ;-; i'd hope that it'd be like what's going on with yvonne, but i'm not talkative enough with animals to get any sort of emotional investment out of anyone at onychinus hq for what drama might be going on in my life. so like. i'd just be a running joke to the engineers for being a reason why the bird keeps coming back with a chassis full of food lol
for dolasach:
okay so like. i so CLEARLY imagine myself to meet her because of some art event where she's a guest, like a lecture or workshop or gallery exhibit opening. she'd have such a particular vibe to her, i feel? that would make it shockingly easy for me to actually reach out and ask questions about her craft (if it were a gallery opening) or ask some really thorough questions + start a bit of banter (if its a workshop) even if her gaze would be so intense i might die on the spot <-aroace but not immune to cool hot people.
i think it would go fairly well, i don't think i've ever left bad impressions on more important people i've interacted with and half the time end up befriending them + i want to believe i'd get a genuine laugh from her 😭 that's all i want oml))
#((the intern speaks))#((this made me think of this one professor i had in uni who in hindsight had PEAK dola vibes. insanely put together and polished as a perso#and with that kind of strict intimidating vibe at first? but is actually surprisingly warm and silly lol and now i also think i'd fight#tooth and nail to be in her class. tho at the same time she'd teach something so niche that there would be JUST enough students for the#class to not be dissolved sdhfjksdf))#((and with the crow i think id be considerably more nervous bc i'm another dumbass that thinks its a real bird so i dont wanna fuck up#and have an entire murder remember me as evil forever and gang up on me as punishment for hurting the feelings of one of their brethren))#((bonus: if i ever meet sylus... he has to be the one to speak to me first or else nothing is going to happen sdfhjksfjhsdf#and if he does... either i think he's a creep and try to get away OR we somehow become besties after i introduce him to the joys of#halo-halo and kwek-kwek LMAO he'd have to be on vacation in the philippines somewhere and for some reason#i get random people asking me questions??? and sometimes asking for my twitter to add me shfjksddfjhs))#((anyway omg thank u for the ask >.< took a while + now im medicated so im yapping away like crazy but this was fun thinking!!))

the marriage business | chapter 98
spoiler warning for the end of the series
finally reached the end of the main series T___T i'm feeling bittersweet about this series ending... it handled topics that are different from other manhwas and i just love it so much. i really like how everything turned out.
at first, i was really skeptical about this story because i am not really comfortable reading stories with age gap. even though the age gap itself is not really that big but the fact that it is one of the main concern of the story and the fact that we see how small bianca was when their wedding was commenced is just... it activated my fight or flight mode. the size difference between zachary and bianca didn't really help. but as i got thru it and realized that bianca got way more mature in her personality than she was in the beginning of the story/right after the regression, so it makes me more and more comfortable reading it. also it made me go WHOA when i realized that the story was actually a PSA for the dangers of child marriage. whoa.
and zachary... i literally tried to got thru the beginning thanks to him for being such a precious man. the gentleman we don't deserve. forest lush green man, as green as bianca's eyes, as green as everything that is green in this world. my man zachary. and his knights! (it's the first time i'm so invested in the side couple!! well, aside from yijung x gaeul from boys over flower HAHA. yvonne x gaspard are THAT couple!!!)
and this story just hits different ever since i realized that it's narrated from yvonne's POV. it really mellowed the whole story, as if we're seeing it thru yvonne's eyes and feeling the sympathy with yvonne's heart.
can't forget to mention one of the creepiest villains in historical manhwa world. the trash itself jacob de sevran. love it when the villain is creepy and delusional (only applicable in 2d media)
yeah this will be in my top manhwas now for sure.
#manhwa rambles#the marriage business#marriage of convenience#bianca de arno#zachary de arno#manhwa spoilers#aaaaaaahhhh when will the side stories be uploaded

No bc the more I think of it the more I’m just. floored at Tory of all people being the mirror of Johnny in her relationship with Kreese whereas Sam is the mirror of Daniel in her relationship with Karate I guess? But then Sam is also Johnny with her privilege and Tory is Daniel in having to be the new kid and. I’m sorry I love KC but they dropped the ball on Miguel being the main character, or even Miguel and Robby being the new deuteragonists. And maybe that’s a bad thing, that the show kinda lost who it’s supposed to focus on. I love Miguel and Robby, but I am more compelled with Sam and Tory idk. Their relationship is Lawrusso but different and similar and lovely and.
anyway all this is to say I love your writing and it makes me have Big Feelings about everyone idk idk idk sorry for the rambles
Ahhh tysm and don’t apologize!!! Bc literally you’re so right, like. The focus on Miguel and Robby really stops making as much sense after season 1. Bc in season 1 you have the obvious parallels between Miguel and Daniel and Johnny and Miyagi (and to some extent Robby and Daniel and then Daniel and Miyagi), but after that, the story has grown and progressed in ways that doesn’t really make sense for having Robby and Miguel be The Rivals of the series.
They try to draw certain parallels like the fight at the party in 1x09, which is supposed to remind us of Johnny and Daniel meeting on the beach, but it doesn’t really work bc Robby already knows who Miguel is, lmao, and already has a reason to dislike him. Any attempts to make them seem more like Daniel and Johnny after that just sort of inevitably crumble bc their rivalry/antagonism is so clearly different than what Daniel and Johnny had going on.
Meanwhile Tory and Sam are like. So fucking representative of things coming full circle, of yin and yang, of just!!! Everything!!!
But like. Giving their story the full focus it should have would mean the show would have to admit that they as girls are like. Full people and may even have more interesting inner lives than some of the boys, which; can’t have that, right. (Also, god forbid they have to admit that Sam is actually the strongest fighter of the teenagers, practically and ideologically; bc if she’s the strongest fighter and Tory is about-or-almost on par with her, what does that mean for the guys).
And like, the tension that exists there surrounding female action heroes is not new. It’s been a thing since female action heroes became popular. (I’m literally reading about this rn in Spectacular Bodies: Gender, Genre and the Action Cinema by Yvonne Tasker, actually). There’s a push and pull between wanting to create a female hero for your show/movie bc of what they represent (and the female audience they bring with them) but then there’s a simultaneous inability to fully engage with them, to treat them with the same focus or depth or respect the male heroes get. There’s a tension, an anxiety. They can never just Be. (And it’s an anxiety that is like. Notably still invested in hetero-gender-normative-male supremacy and is basically gnawing on its own arm trying to have its cake and eat it too).
(I should say race is also quite a factor and that characters of color end up getting a similar treatment, which is a problem CK has pretty damn often, but ofc that is its whole own can of worms)
Anyway. Ur totally right to feel that way (much as I love Robby and Miguel). Honestly at times they remind me more of Daniel and Chozen than Daniel and Johnny. And meanwhile Sam and Tory are not only better parallels, but like; their rivalry, their story, is so much more unhinged and intense and overwhelming and feral and just fucking rabid. Miguel vs Robby peaked with the school fight, but bc of the consequences of said fight, their rivalry just kind of. Becomes more cold-and-bitter than the balls to the wall insane shit Sam and Tory have going on, which ofc also means Sam and Tory completely steal the show (especially once Hawk and Demetri have made up).
Overall I think they absolutely could have still focused on Robby and Miguel heavily as characters without inadvertently missing how narratively important Sam and Tory’s Whole Thing is. And that in and of itself is a good reminder that just bc the show chooses to focus on something or someone doesn’t mean they’re getting handled well (oh, Johnny, my man). But yeah. Samtory are just so on their own level tbh
