“I know they don’t which is such a shame because they care so much about others.  They both have passion that shows through in the little things like when Yuki grows special things for Tohru or how Kyo cooks for others or how they both protect her from you.”  She giggled at the thought.  Honestly she knew Shigure would never do anything.  He teased but he was a big sweetheart.  Though he had his secrets.  Everyone did really.  Even she hid things but they were mostly just her feelings.
“Or like in my case you could have a mother who tells you how worthless you are.”  She muttered mostly to herself. She had some pretty deep seeded issues when it came to her home life and self esteem but given her situation it wasn’t that surprising.  She knew her flaws and very much focused on it far too often.  It was one of the reasons she understood what others went through and she tried so hard to build other people up.  She wanted them to see the good because she saw it. Especially in the Sohmas.
She cared very deeply for all of them.  So far every Sohma she met she liked.  Well all but maybe Kagura.  She was always hitting Kyo which put Ray on edge.  it wasn’t her place to be involved but it still annoyed her.  She didn’t think if Kagura truly cared she would have found a better way showing it.  As much as it put her on edge, it wasn’t her place so she always bit her tongue.
“I hope they all come true, Shi-Chan!  you deserve it.”  After all he did take in three kids who needed it and guided them. Even if it was for whatever reason.  She never asked why.  She didn’t need to. Whatever reason he did it, didn’t matter.  he helped them and in return he got something from it.  So he really did deserve the things he wanted and more.
“yeah, but they aren’t alone any more.”  She wouldn’t ever let them feel that way again.  They were stuck with her.  They were her friends.  She would be there for the good and bad.  That was what friends did.  She didn’t think much over it.  She just knew she would be there at any cost.  Even if that meant facing the god.  She wasn’t scared of Akito but she was scared what the god could do to the others.  “He has to be.”  her fists balled up gripping her skirt tightly.  She got a bit more emotional than she intended.
Though Shigure knew just how to relax her.  his comment made her face light up.  She was running through the people she knew and that he could know.  She was trying to picture who would date him.  She didn’t think she knew anyone.  “I have!?  Aya doesn’t count right?”  She joked before she tilted her head.  “is it a boy or girl?”  she didn’t know if he was bi or what.  She got some vibes from him because of his interactions with Ayame but there with other signs too.  “I think you are hetero flexible.  I despite everything you like feeling connected to someone when you want more but sex is just sex.”  She kind of felt the same.  “So it had to have been a female.  Considering the amount of women that likely crossed both are paths is pretty slim when you factor in age.”  She continued.  “And I don’t think you ever dated your editor…  I got no idea.” Though she could make a handful of guesses.  Actually three.  She had three in mind.  None being her teacher.
“It’s good too!  I’m so glad.”  They really deserved this chance.  Tohru was like a little angel. It was impossible to focus on the bad with her any where around.  Ray envied that a bit.  She wanted to be more like that.  However she wasn’t Tohru.  She tended to be way more emotional.  She was learning more every day.  Shigure was surprisingly good at helping her sort through things.
“Lacking intimacy would be hard but there are other ways to be intimate without cuddling.”  She said with a shrug.  “I mean I can rest my head on Yuki’s shoulder and such.  Plus we watch movies together and I mean massages could happen.”  There were a lot of ways to work through it.  The curse wasn’t a curse for a love life.  The fact the cat had a child was proof.  Ray honestly thought about it a lot.  Among other things.  “The last cat was Kazuma-Sensei’s grandpa….”  he didn’t speak about it too much.  “I’ve spoken to him some about it.  he is such a kind man.  He is very handsome too.”  Whenever she brought that up, Kyo would get so upset.
She sadly didn’t know enough about the zodiac.  She had gathered pieces of information but mostly it was just speculation.  She did know about the room.  The one Kyo would be sent to.  And she knew she wouldn’t let that happen.  Neither would Kazuma.  At this point she was sure many people would speak up and speak out against this cruelty.  If they were together then they overcome anything.  She believed that!  She hoped more than anything things would change for the better.  It was what they all wanted.  Each Sohma had their reasons for it as well whatever they were or however selfish they believed it to be.  Ray didn’t think wanting to be happy was selfish though.
“Thank you Shi!”  She couldn’t resist this time.  She hugged the dog happily.  She squeezed him tightly before she pulled back.  She reached over then patted his head.  “you are adorable like this too.”  She couldn’t resist it.  “y’know why you are like this we should do those cute flowers with your paws.”  Also she wanted to play with his paws and such but she kept herself from doing that.
“Sorry!  I’ll work on food give you some privacy to change back.”  She wouldn’t ever make him uncomfortable.  Or at least she tried to.  She cared so much.  But for now she scurried into the kitchen getting busy making a delicious meal for everyone.
It was true, although it took getting to know both of them to see that about them.  Kyo and Yuki both tended to be a bit distant when it came to openly caring about others.  It did seem like they were both growing though and showing that side to them a bit more often.  Even the fact that they had formed friendships at their school was a sign of their growth.  It was a bit amusing to Shigure how neither of them seemed to see that, although it was a bit more difficult to see one’s own growth.  “Ah, they are both quite natural in the Prince Charming role, aren’t they?”  Just like he could be quite natural in the villain role, although he didn’t prefer to see things in such a straightforward fashion.  Things were complex and ignoring that was just naive, although it would make things easier.  The easy way of things tended to bore Shigure though.  They always had.
A small, yet thoughtful frown appeared on the dog’s face.  He was well-aware of the issues parents could cause in their children.  Many Sohmas, especially those with the Zodiac curse were frequent sufferers of those circumstances.  His upbringing wasn’t as bad as some others though, but he had witnessed quite a bit of it.  “Parents don’t know everything.  I’ve watched many Sohma parents be wrong about their children.”  Even his own parents had been wrong regarding him and his sister.  Sure, he was a slob, but he did make an income from being an author rather than just surviving off the Sohma Estate’s funds.  Although, part of that desire to have some money earned by him was more of a screw you to the Sohma’s family head than for independence.  Just another way to toll with someone, as many of his actions were.  A small smile was given by the author, “I don’t think that you are worthless.”
“Thank you~”  It wasn’t often that people reacted that way.  The closest he got was Hatori saying he wouldn’t interfere, but yet he wouldn’t help either.  Of course, the fact that she didn’t know just how much some of his goal would involve others being hurt in the process likely helped.  Still, he wasn’t interested in discussing that.  Even he didn’t like that aspect of it much, yet he had already gone too far to back down now.  Besides, it wasn’t like those involved wouldn’t be able to make it through either.  Perhaps it could push some closer together, even if it meant that he may end up hated.  It also didn’t help that he felt as though he was already far too tainted to be helped or worthy of forgiveness.  Not that his opinion of himself was totally accurate.  He had done many things that weren’t necessarily beneficial to him, but were to others.  Having taken in Yuki and Kyo and giving those two advice was on that list.  Not like he was the best suited to be a guardian to three teenagers, or anyone for that matter, but he did make sure they had somewhere to go.  Sure, he poked at them quite often, but nothing like what either of the boys had put up with from their parents.  And while he wouldn’t admit, they, as well as Ray and Tohru, had begun to grow on him, although the two females did tend to get a kinder side of him than his two cousins.
“Ah, no.  Aya would be far too obvious~”  Spoken teasingly.  Had anything happened in the past between the two?  Between his teasing expression, he wasn’t giving too much insight either way.  It was far more enjoyable for him to leave that much up to speculation.  “It is a female.  Probably not the type of person you’d expect.”  An amused laugh escaped the man as he recalled Hatori and Kana’s reaction to hearing that the two were dating.  It was pretty reasonable considering their personalities and Hatori’s awareness of whom Shigure was interested in.  “I would say that is accurate.  Ah, and that is correct on Mit-chan.  I don’t think she could handle that much of me~”  He was relatively surprised that she had managed to handle being his editor for so long.  It wasn’t like he ever made things easy for her and he had no intentions of changing that any time soon.  As far as revealing his past with her teacher, that may just have to be a surprise for graduation.
“That is true~”  After all, he had watched Hatori and Kana almost make it with a successful relationship despite the curse.  At this point, it seemed like Akito was the true barrier for any of the Sohmas being able to get in a healthy relationship.  Just another part of their lives that the woman liked to control.  Some how though, Ayame had managed to remain in a relationship with Mine, although a part of Shigure wondered if Akito was even aware of that relationship since she seemed to keep less tabs on Aya than other Sohmas.  Not like he would tell her.  While he could be cruel, he had no interest in destroying the happiness of his friends, especially if it would be of no real benefit to him.  Besides, Shigure could still vividly remember how viciously Akito had lashed out at Hatori that day.
“Unfortunately, not everyone is so patient and get tired of a relationship lacking certain intimate aspects.”  It also didn’t help that the zodiac secret wasn’t exactly something that was easy for most to share, especially since everyone knew of either themselves or another being rejected by their own parents for the curse.
A small smile remained on Shigure’s face as she spoke about Kazuma.  He truly was a kind man.  While he was mostly recognized for looking after Kyo and acting as the boy’s father, he played an important role in many of the other cursed Sohma’s lives too.  Although, Shigure couldn’t deny that a part of him was curious how a direct descendant of a former cat had managed to avoid the curse.  Still, he wouldn’t wish that on anyone.  Besides, even not being one of the cursed Sohmas, Kazuma somehow still managed to get dragged into quite a bit of the drama of the curse.  “Kyo must love hearing that~”  Slightly teasing tone as he spoke.  “I believe that Kazuma wishes he would’ve been closer to his grandfather, so it is a bit of a difficult conversation.”  He was only a child at the time though from what Shigure could recall hearing about, but it was always so easy to look back and wish one would have reacted differently in a situation.  Not like it would have saved the former cat from his fate though, but some kindness wouldn’t have hurt him.
At this point, the dog was rather unfazed by the transformation in his own home.  As long as others weren’t around to find out, there wasn’t much harm.  “That would be something, wouldn’t it?”  He could only imagine the reactions from Kyo and Yuki if they were to come home and see his paw print art.  Tohru would probably find it adorable though.  Perhaps that would be something to do in the future.  “Thank you~”  He watches as went into the kitchen.  All that was left to do for him now was wait to change back.
