@Regrann from @theyoungempire_ - MEET TONY Hansberry, who, at 14, created a new surgical technique that lowers risks after women undergo hysterectomies. . As a schoolboy, Tony attended a high school with a program geared towards medicine gave him the chance to intern at the nearby UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. . Once there, he was challenged to improve how the vaginal cuff (the top of the vagina) is sutured after a hysterectomy. . Typically, the cuff is sewn together with a horizontal stitch to decrease the risk of infection after surgery, but Hansberry suggested that a vertical stitch might be faster. . After reviewing several surgical closing procedures, including ones involving hysterectomies, the young genius came up with a simpler way to close the wounds. . His ideas will help surgeons complete hysterectomies in 1/3 the time it previously took to complete an operation. It will also help newer surgeons with less operations under their belts. . When demonstrating his method on a mannequin, he was able to suture the area three times faster than the traditional method. It proved so much more effective that the supervising doctor still uses his method today, having nicknamed it the “Hansberry Stitch.” . Now 21, Tony is studying chemistry at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He hopes to become a surgeon someday, and make a difference in the lives of others. . #YoungEmpire 👑

#congratulations #IntelligentKing Regrann from @theyoungempire_ - #DarrellKelly had little time to bask in the honour of his #Graduation from the #UniversityOfCincinnati #CollegeOfLaw on Saturday. . Kelly and his family had to race from the #LawSchool #Ceremony at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington to the Cintas Center in Evanston so Kelly could get his #MasterOfBusinessAdministration from #XavierUniversity #WilliamsCollegeOfBusiness . Kelly got two advanced degrees from #TwoUniversities on one day. And he’s only 24 years old. . “Some kids do great. Some kids do wonderful. But when you go past great and get your master’s and turn into a lawyer, you do like the Bible says: exceedingly and abundantly,” said Richard Layson, who has known Kelly for most of the young man’s life. “That’s where he went -- exceedingly more than we ever asked for.” . How Kelly got there is a story of hard work and determination, to be sure. But it’s also a story about the power of family, community and, above all, a mother’s love. . “I was born to five generations of love, and I passed that on to them,” #LisaKelly said of her son, #DarrellLandonKelly and his older sister, #Jazmoné who is in #MedicalSchool “If he’s tall, it’s because he’s standing on tall shoulders. He’s big because of the village, because of the friendships. He grew up with love.” . Kelly said he appreciates every bit of it, especially all his mother has done for him. . “It’s time for me to stand and leave the nest,” he said. “She’s instilled me with all these tools and has guided me for so long.” . The 12-year-old from Atlanta took home the prestigious MasterChef trophy as well as a $100,000 grand prize. “This is the biggest moment of my entire life. Jasmine was among 40 talented kids between 8 and 13 who were selected from a nationwide search for the best junior home cooks across the country. . “Some of the highlights of the show was winning, of course,” Jasmine told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “But I did love it when I got an apron. @Regrann from @theyoungempire_ - WHILE MANY of his peers may be playing the latest video game or watching TV, 11-year-old Rudy Washington is walking the streets, flanked by his parents, handing out socks to the homeless. . Rudy, dubbed ‘the sock man’, started the sock drive in 2015, by collecting boxes of socks. . His mother, Starr Washington, said that they stopped counting after receiving 3800 pairs. . There were times when Rudy Jr. would pressure his father, Rudy Washington Sr., to get up and help him load their car with socks, so they could hand them out to the less fortunate. . The schoolboy then walks the streets of his Detroit neighbourhood, whatever the weather, with his parents handing out pairs to the homeless. . “It’s so cold, but it’s worth it,” Rudy, who convinced his mom and dad to leave their warm house to go outside, told the Detroit Click. . As he interacts with those living on the streets he realises why his sock drive is so important. . “I saw this one dude, he didn’t have socks on, his shoes were too small,” Rudy Jr. said. “He had a sign that said, ‘Help, I need shoes.’ I said, ‘I have a box of socks. I might as well give him some.’ It really crushes me to see people without stuff -the necessities – to stay alive.” . #YoungEmpire 👑 - #regrann

This is phenomenal !!! #Repost @theyoungempire_ with @get_repost ・・・ A teenager raised $20,000 in the hopes of helping to send hundreds of girls to the upcoming science fiction film "A Wrinkle in Time," according to the fundraising website GoFundMe. . Taylor Richardson, 14, is no stranger to fundraising for a good cause. At age 9, she raised enough money to send herself to space camp and moved a step closer to her dream of a career in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). . She also raised more than $18,000 and hosted multiple screenings to help 1,000 girls see "Hidden Figures" last year in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. . In an interview today on "Good Morning America," Taylor said she came up with the campaign for "A Wrinkle in Time" because "representation matters." . "I wanted all girls, especially girls of colour, to know they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up and also can struggle and have flaws and still be successful in life," Taylor said. . This time around, Taylor had an initial goal of $15,000 to buy movie tickets and host a private screening of "A Wrinkle in Time," starring African-American actress Storm Reid, so other young girls could see a black girl like her in a strong leading science-fiction role. . "It has a female protagonist in a science fiction film," the eighth-grader wrote on her fundraising page. "A brown girl front and centre who looks like me in the role of Meg, a girl traveling to different planets and encountering beings and situations that I’d never seen a girl of colour in." . "Most impressive and importantly," she wrote, "it’s a fantasy film that is not about some white boys fighting evil, but about a black girl overcoming it." . Taylor's goal in all of her fundraising endeavors has been to use her voice to bring girls of color from across the United States and abroad to the STEM field. . "I want to continue my mission to bring diversity and gender equality to the STEM field, by running various projects and initiatives to make this happen," the teen wrote. "All funds raised will go towards projects, events, and scholarships to meet those ends." . #YoungEmpire 👑

Amazing! Depression needs to be taken seriously. #Repost @theyoungempire_ with @get_repost ・・・ When Hannah Lucas was diagnosed with a medical condition last year that caused frequent fainting, she felt scared and alone. . “I started passing out more and more often and I was terrified of going anywhere,” Hannah, 15, told ABC News. “Because what if I passed out and no one was around or what if someone took advantage of me?” . Hannah, a high school sophomore from Georgia, became anxious and depressed and started to self-harm, she said. . From that dark point in her life, Hannah and her younger brother, Charlie Lucas, 13, created an app to help people in distress. . The idea for the notOK App came from Hannah, who told her mum she wished there was an app she could use to quickly alert her family and friends when she needed help either physically or emotionally. . Charlie heard his sister’s idea and used coding skills he learned in summer camp to design the app. . “I helped illustrate it out so he would know what to do,” Hannah said of her brother. “He looked at my drawings and he coded it to tell the coders exactly what I wanted and how I wanted it to look.” . Charlie said his motivation for building the app came from watching his sister spiral into depression. . “I saw Hannah depressed, and she told me about her idea, and I started wire-framing it,” he said. “Making this app made her feel better and that made me feel better.” . Over the course of five months, Hannah and Charlie worked side by side with the developers, often over Skype, to see their idea for the app turn into reality. . NotOK was launched this week in both iOS and Android versions. The app, which comes with a $2.99 monthly fee, allows users to press a button that sends a text message to up to five preselected contacts. . The text, along with a link to the user's current GPS location, shows up on the contacts' phones with the message, “Hey, I'm not OK. Please call me, text me, or come find me.” . #YoungEmpire 👑
