There are three sides to every story; mine, yours, and the truth...
There’s no use in resisting, and there’s no use in pondering why. The explanation is simple, it’s because you’re family.
The importance of family is always stressed, in every household. But in yours, in your tight-knit... community, family is everything.
Leaving the family is almost unheard of, especially unscathed and as easily as Kindaichi let you go. You’d been foolish to think you were free, that you ever had a say in any matter. But now, now you understand. Now you see clearly that you never really left, and you never really will.
With blood soaked hands coming to cup your heated cheeks, crimson mixing with a stream of salty tears, you know you’ve learned a valuable lesson.
Regardless of anything else — personal wants, needs, or desires — family always comes first.

— kunimi as your boyfriend.
Tumblr media
just want this man’s hand in marriage. hope you enjoy.
the time has finally come.
we are enjoying the pure goodness that nimi provides because this cutie can do more than just blep and look dead inside.
doesn’t make any sense how people DON’T simp for this cutie enough because whew— i surely do.
kithes for him but you aren’t here for me to simp for your man.
dating akira here is a bit interesting.
but before i go discuss that, let’s discuss a bit of background and the crushing stage.
first of all, he isn’t someone who dates often. may have been in a few relationships or maybe none at all.
the concept of being with someone never really peeked his interest nor does he want to stumble across someone who could potentially want more out of him.
but we could already assume that a bit from his personality. (although i will not consider him 100% lazy here.)
however, gonna add that none of that makes him totally inexperienced in the dating scene.
nimi is somewhat knowledgeable about it to a certain degree so if you think he’s completely clueless at dating or anything.
fairly decent but definitely trips up on some things.
only thing i can say is appreciate him for doing his best here.
as for the crushing stage.
he found himself a bit confused that he developed feelings for you.
not one of those “hm?! what’s this strange feeling bubbling inside me?!?!” type of confusions. more on the “so we’re finally simping..? how did this happen?” side.
but he isn’t bothered by it nor is he going to retrace his steps on how he developed feelings.
it was bound to happen since nimi does spend a lot of time with you and he tolerates you more than any other person who isn’t on his team/friends.
doesn’t attempt confessing his feelings towards you for a while.
but he does tell kindaichi about you. he’s the homie after all and he gotta tell someone about the cutie he’s crushing on.
also akira is one of those people who just observes their crush, waiting for the opportunity to compliment you if you end up changing something about yourself.
“did you change your hair? it looks different.”
“oh yeah! it’s just a small trim but i didn’t think it was noticeable. does it look bad or something?”
“not at all. your hair looks pretty but your hair always looks pretty to me.” he’ll say with a small blush on his cheeks.
literally says the nicest things to you that it’s hard not to swoon over him.
keeps up the act until one day he spots a guy around you trying his hardest to get with you.
it made him jealous that someone could potentially you steal you away from him so best believe when he skipped practice to hang with you (as always), he decided to confessed his feelings for you right then and there.
you already know the rest so it’s time to get into the relationship aspect.
dating him isn’t that bad. of course it’s more on the chill side though.
not because he’s lazy or anything because he’s actually ditches his lazy habits for you. (not completely but we aren’t here to change him. we stan and love this man for being himself around these parts)
gives a bit of his energy towards you than anything else but it’s only because he’s whipped for you, however, he won’t attempt it.
definitely finds himself holding your hand while sleeping in class.
says “he sleeps better that way.” so you just gotta accept it.
even recommends you should try sleeping in class too with him but someone has to take notes and its you sadly.
but ever since you two started dating, both his and yours sleeping schedule are ruined. (mainly yours since nimi is a pro at this)
kunimi is the type of boyfriend who likes to be active with you during the night.
whether it’s sneaking you out so you two can go buy snacks while talking endlessly, on the phone with each other until morning or just generally at each other houses doing nothing but cuddling and watching tv— he’s keeping you awake with him.
but it’s not like you mind since spending time with akira is never bad.
side fact: you once tried to fix his sleep schedule by making sure you both fell asleep early and you truly thought it would work because he agreed for once... but it didn’t work since he still slept in class the next day.
the type of boyfriend who ‘accidentally’ leaves his clothes at your place and then acts surprised when you end up wearing it.
“is that my shirt?”
“uhh yeah you left it here, remember?”
“really? i don’t but you know... i can’t even be mad when you look good in it.”
and if you’re at his, kumini will find a way for you to ditch your own clothes because he likes seeing you in his.
but is he really fooling anyone here? no. will he ever admit to it? never never never.
100% positive this cutie swoons over you.
akira here smiles the most when he’s around you and ONLY YOU.
however if his teammates tease him about it, he’s just gonna stare and pretend he heard nothing.
willing to drop everything for you. don’t fight me on this.
kunimi akira loves you that much.
even loves you enough to share his favorite with you; salted caramel.
and that alone speaks VOLUMES.
pda was mentioned briefly so let’s shift to it.
in public; akira is definitely affectionate but the most he’ll do in public is holding hands with you, occasionally giving small kisses that leave you all warm every time he does (same goes for him too) and requests that you play with his hair during lunch break (because he definitely lays on your lap and listen to you talk about random things).
now when you are alone then he’s definitely more affectionate than before.
loves wrapping his arms around from behind and letting his head get snuggled up in the crook of your neck, his kisses become frequently, cuddling with you (big spoon energy for him) and all the lovey doves stuff.
but something he loves the most is waking up in the morning and giving you morning kisses (after teeth have been brushed and everything.. morning breath exist ya know. don’t kiss with morning breath please.)
overall just super soft with you when you’re alone.
nicknames? ahh nicknames.
top ones for you 🥁🥁🥁 precious, pretty girl, baby/babe, cutie, princess and occasionally he’ll toss in sleeping beauty/princess
side fact about the last name: you called him the prince of sleeping one day and he decided to joke around about you being his sleeping princess/beauty then. proceeded to make another joke that the next time one of you end up sleeping then a kiss be given to wake one another up.
you took the chance to do it a few weeks after that conversation and he couldn’t help but blush and find it shocking you took him seriously (yet he’s not complaining)
now dates. sweet wonderful dates.
kunimi prefers to take you out on dates that are considerably relaxing and quiet so home dates, going to museums, art exhibitions, aquariums and things along those lines are okay with him.
also loves seasonal dates where you to go around try the new dishes out for the season or look at the new outdoor decors being set up.
something to mention, when he takes you out to each... you never see the bill. never ever.
akira doesn’t believe in the concept of you paying for something if he’s treating you out and he also won’t argue with you about it.
not verbally at least but you two do mentally fight about it and there’s always the competition of who can pay faster without the other noticing right away.
as for home dates, he sometimes goes all out and makes a little fort so you two can watch movies inside.
like a little get away from reality.
but let me come myself down because i could go on and on about dating his fool.
in summary; kunimi is best boyfriend. i said what i said and never taking it back.

Team finding out about S/o || Headcanons
Synopsis: Headcanons for Fukunaga, Koganegawa, Kunimi, Konoha. These boys need more love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Tumblr media
Fukunaga:
It was hard to believe for Fukunaga to have a girlfriend, even though he doesn’t talk, he wasn’t shy either.
He is the best boyfriend, he cares about you a lot
He isn’t shy about PDA, if you want to kiss or hug him go ahead, he loves it
He loves cuddling you and even loves being next to you
The team doesn’t know you exist because you are in a different club so you can’t visit him at all, but after practice he takes you home to cuddle but they never see you because Fukunaga always leaves last to wait for you
Whenever you can’t walk home with him, he leaves with his team but always buys extra food for you two when he comes over to your house
What surprises people is that he talks to you more than other people which you don’t mind
you love his sense of humor absolutely adore it
Once he left his team jacket in your locker so you decided to pay him a visit since your club was canceled for the day
Arriving to the gym, his teammates were practicing and your boyfriend was no where to be found
“Are you looking for someone?” Lev comes up to you almost towering over you, “Lev don’t do that you’re scaring her!” Yamamoto pushes him away to smile at you.
“Sorry who are you looking for?”
“I’m looking for my boyfriend” “boyfriend? I don’t-“ you spot Fukunaga coming out from the locker room, “excuse me” you run up to him, “Shōhei” you called him
Everyone turned around to look at you two almost shocked
“Who’s that?” Inouka asks Yamamoto who was equally shocked.
“You forgot your jacket” you hand him his jacket, “I was looking for it, thanks love”
Jaws drop, “damn Fukunaga always getting the cute ones” Kuroo smirks while Kai smiles happily for his junior.
“I’ll see you later okay” pulling him for a kiss which his responds to, “love you” “love you too”
“Smooth bastard” Yamamoto groans
“FUKUNAGA YOU GOT SHIT TO EXPLAIN”
He doesn’t come out alive
Tumblr media
Koganegawa:
He’s an volleyball idiot yet he knows how to whoo a girl
Of course he’s embarrassed and all blushly, yet he had cute charms making it hard not to like him
He‘s a sweet boyfriend and very dumb at times
But he’s loving and very supportive so like your personal cheerleader
He doesn’t like to talk about his private life so that’s why his team doesn’t know you and you don’t come around practice because you know he won’t concentrate at all and will end up leaving with you
After class when everyone leaves, you two stay behind for a bit to be with each other
“We have a game soon do you wanna come and watch?” “I’d love to” you grin ear to ear as he excitedly tells you about his next game
You couldn’t help but pull him into a kiss which makes him instantly melt into your arms.
Little did you two know that Aone and Futakuchi was looking for their setter, “gosh where is this kid?” Futakuchi groans as he searches, Aone stops him by grabbing him by the shirt pulling him close to him, pointing at the classroom.
His captain eyes grew wide like super wide, “what are you guys looking at?” Kamasaki walks up to them before being shushed by the second years, pointing at the class room
They were shocked they thought that Koganegawa was innocent
“Hey um *cough* Koganegawa” Futakuchi was the first one to break the silence
Both of you separate from the kiss, “oh hi what are you guys doing here?” He cocks his head to the side cutely
2nd years and 3rd years stopped working
Tumblr media
Kunimi:
This dude doesn’t even tell anyone or his best friend because he’s lazy and doesn’t want to get into details how he got you to say yes
He’s lazy but a passionate lover
You two just sit in the back of the class and talk shit like it’s a normal some people would think you two are best friends
Your humor combined with his is like roasting everyone who disrespects you
But at home he’s a lovable bear, he loves cuddles and sleeps in your arms when practice was hard that day
You would be playing video games as he rants to you just a regular thing or the other way around
It was your anniversary and he wanted to skip practice because it was on a weekend and he wanted to spend it with you
The funny thing is he didn’t ask Oikawa but asked Iwaizumi instead
Of course he was let go without being asked why
You two went on a date, went to the zoo for a while then got food
You two walked home holding hands as he held your stuff toy he got you while you ate your ice cream talking about the latest anime you watched
Then his team bumped into you two
They were shocked but not really because they have seen those little smiles when he was texting you
Kindaichi is dumb so he didn’t even notice
“Who’s she?” He points at you as you wave awkwardly at them
“She’s my girlfriend stupid” Kunimi rolls his eyes as he pulls you closer to him
“Oh Kunimi you have a girlfriend how cute! You’d should’ve asked for advice since I’m an expert-OW IWA-CHAN!” Iwaizumi hits Oikawa to shut up
“Sorry you two we’ll be leaving now” he pushes the whole team away so you two can enjoy your day out without being interrupted
The next day Kunimi didn’t live it down
He was asked so many questions ti Oikawa almost being killed by Iwaizumi for asking “have you guys done it yet?”
Tumblr media
Konoha:
Super sly, he keeps his private life in check and his club activities in check
Even though his team is like his family and you are his love of his life
You and the team never met officially because of time and schedules
His team knows you exist but never really met you, so like you’re his mysterious girlfriend
You were busy helping out your family store and had club activities
The boys had games and even study sessions because they need their captain to be on top of his game *Bokuto gets distracted with the littlest things*
Whenever he is done with practice he would go over to the store and help out
Konoha loves to tease you on whatever you do because he gets these cute reactions from you
He likes annoying you sometimes even have playful arguments which turns into a make out sessions
He doesn’t do pda in public because he wants it to be private because he loves showering you with a lot of love at home and no one can judge him for it
But he will hold your hand and walk you to class, but you two have to sit far away from each other because you two bicker a lot which your classmates would always tease you two about it
You didn’t see him all day and wanted to see him at least once so you went to the gym to greet him, he was all by himself.
“Akinori” you whisper waving at him, he opens his arms and you jump into them
“I haven’t seen you all day and I’ve sent you texts” he peaks your lips, “sorry I was late today” you kissed him back
“WHOA WHOA WHOA!” Bokuto screams pointing at you, “That wasn’t necessary Bokuto” “DO YOU SEE THAT AGAAShi?”
“Yes Bokuto I see it too” Akaashi sighs
Konoha let’s out a little sigh, holding your hand up, “this is my girlfriend y/n” he introduces you to the team, Bokuto literally bunny hopped over to you two
“You’re pretty” he smiles cheekily, “okay get away from my girlfriend” Konoha hisses at his captain
From that day on you’re now apart of stop Bokuto from getting emo squad

oikawa tooru x fem langa!reader
(hq x sk8 the infinity)
warnings: spelling mistakes, swearing, 2k+ words, u have langa’s blue hair sorry
gen masterlist.            “snow” masterlist.
Tumblr media
"you know, oikawa-san.." she started off with a sheepish hum "yes?" oikawa hummed with a smile
"i thought you were only picking me up so we can walk together." she said
"exactly. that's why im here" oikawa said with a chuckle
"so.. why are you in my room so early in the morning?" she deadpanned as she looked at him, as he sat on the foot of her bed "you're here way too early, oikawa-san" she said with a yawn
"well, i thought i'd get to know your mom too since she's also new to the neighbourhood ya know? shes very nice, by the way." oikawa chuckled out
"my.. mom..?" she sent him a weirded out look
"hey! not like that!" oikawa shrieked out "if anything, you'd be the only girl i'd have eyes for, FYI" he said with a wink. "oh.." y/n said with a laugh. "well, it's whatever oikawa-san." she said as she stood up from her bed.
"did you eat breakfast yet? i feel like you have since you're already dressed up and all.."
"but if you haven't, you can eat with me." she offered as she looked at him expectantly by the door
"i ate already, but we can have coffee together" oikawa suggested with a smile as he followed her out "oh. but you'd have to make it since i suck at making coffee." she said "oh come on, you can't be that bad" oikawa mused as he ruffled her already messy blue locks
"i'll drink whatever you make, don't worry" he said
"okay but i warned you." she replied with a sigh
oikawa sent one last fleeting glance to her room before he closed the door. he took note of the snowboards displayed by her wall and her skateboard so delicately situated by her desk. as well as the slightly messy collage of pictures stuck to her wall, most of them being pictures of a redhead.
"oikawa-san?" she called out, looking back to see him lagging behind.
"oh sorry, i'll be right there, y/n-chan!"
"this is coffee is probably more bitter than a rotten ballsack." oikawa muttered to himself as he reluctantly gulped down the beverage.
"did you say something, oikawa-san?" y/n hummed with a smile
Tumblr media
"i said this coffee is probably better than any drink there is!" he exclaimed
"really??" y/n asked with sparkling eyes "then i'll make you coffee every morning starting now!" she said with an excited smile
oikawa paled as he watched her relish in the compliment with a smile, it's almost as if she was oozing with sparkles."ah.. y-you don't have to.." oikawa stammered out with a quivering smile
"oh.." her smile fell
oikawa mentally gasped and hastily shook his head "no, i take that back!" he exclaimed "you can make me coffee! in fact, you can make me a gallon everyday if you want!" oikawa rambled with in a frantic tone
"okay, oikawa-san" she smiled "that would mean we'd meet every morning too, haha" she chuckled
oikawa froze at the statement and nodded with an accomplished smile. "yup. sounds good!" he said. he then turned away and dramatically cried a single tear. "so worth it.." he muttered as he sipped on the devil spawn of a drink.
"anyways, should we go?" she asked him. "i can leave my board if you want me to walk with you." she said "no it's fine, i'll just keep up" he said
oikawa hummed to himself as he envisioned the two of them making their way to school. y/n was skating while he holds her hand, the both of them laughing and smiling like two protagonists of a shoujo manga.
"let's go, oikawa-san" she called out to him as she puts on her converse instead of her school shoes and grabbed her board.
"right." oikawa hummed as he happily followed behind, watching her get on the board and placing her phone in her pocket. "you'd keep up with me right?" she asks him "i won't go too fast if you want.."
"no, no. go do your thing, i don't mind~" oikawa cooed with a smile
"okay then." she sent him a smile before fully skating away and leaving a trail of dust behind.
"eh?" oikawa blinked in confusion as he watched her skate in a baffling speed and jumping effortlessly over bumps and obstacles. it was so different from what he's seen the first time he saw her skating to school. he was almost certain she was just one of those mediocre skater girls that everyone likes solely because they're pretty.
"oikawa-san, why aren't you following?!" she yelled from atleast a block away
"huh? well i didn't think you'd leave me behind like that!" oikawa whined as he ran towards her with a huff "you said to do my thing!" she yelled back
"right, right, my bad!" he laughed it off as he patted her back "i'll slow down if you want" she offered with a laugh
"yeah, i'd love that.."
from his front porch, iwaizumi watched them with an unamused look on his face. "flirting already?" he groaned "its seven in the morning, when will i ever get a break from this?"
"wow, didn't think you two would get so close so quickly" hanamaki teased as he pointed to y/n who was fixing the nets
Tumblr media
"um can someone help me put this up-"
"oh that? it was pretty easy" oikawa shrugged it off with a smug grin "she just couldn't resist me and my charms, ya know?"
"i'll do it for you, don't worry!" oikawa cut her off as he skipped towards her and proceeded to put the nets up himself
hanamaki sweat dropped as he watched the brunette continue to chat her up while she simply nods along "more like you couldn't resist her.." he sneered. matsukawa joined in as they three in teasing comments to the captain, all while oikawa tries to shut them up.
"hey, let's eat out after practice, y/n-san" yahaba suggested with a flirty smile
"oh, sure.." y/n replied, tilting her head in confusion as his face contorts into one that resembles the handsome squidward. "cool. i'll come." oikawa interjected as he stared yahaba down.
"oh uh- i meant me.. and her.." yahaba sweat dropped
"yknow what, why don't we bring the whole team!" oikawa let out an obnoxiously fake laugh as he announced the plans to the whole gym. "geez. he's down bad" matsukawa said to hanamaki as the latter nodded along
"jesus christ, that dumbass.." iwaizumi sighs as he watched oikawa subtly give yahaba more tasks than the others
"are you free later iwaizumi-san?" y/n asks him as she hesitantly tugged on his sleeve. iwaizumi raised a brow and nodded. "yeah, why? did you need something?" he asked
"i know i said i'll stop trying but i still wanna know how to play volleyball" she said "can you teach me? coach said you're the ace"
"oh sure" iwaizumi gave her a thumbs up "but didn't shittykawa teach you already?"
"it didn't really work" she frowned "maybe you'd be a better teacher". iwaizumi sweat dropped as he heard a dramatic gasp followed by a thud from afar. he didn't even need to turn around to know that it was oikawa.
"sure, i'll teach you the basics" iwaizumi sent her a grin. "thank you!" she exclaimed happily before walking off and doing her work
"iwa-chan, you traitor!" oikawa exclaimed as he tried to tackle him down, only to be blocked by iwaizumi's arm. "shut up. its not my fault you can't even teach her how to hit a damn ball" iwaizumi rolled his eyes
"i can, okay! it's just her..." oikawa chuckled sheepishly "she doesn't know how to hit it properly"
"huh." iwaizumi hummed "maybe she's right, maybe you're just a shitty teacher."
"you'll see for yourself!"
"i can finally play volleyball!" she announced excitedly as she munched down on her food "really? how'd you learn that?" kindaichi mused with a soft laugh
Tumblr media
"iwaizumi-san taught me! he's really good" she said with  sparkling eyes
oikawa spluttered as he felt an imaginary arrow pierce his chest. "ah.. that's.. that's great y/n.. good job" he squeaked out with a quivering smile. "maybe you're right.. maybe i was just a shitty teacher" oikawa shamefully admitted to iwaizumi
beside her, oikawa silently sulked as he gloomily nibbled on his burger. "oikawa-san, i can finally serve too" she told him with a smile
"glad you're aware" iwaizumi snickered. "anyways, i'm gonna go ahead" iwaizumi said as he stood up and stretched. "i have a shit ton of work to do so i'll leave ya guys to it"
"iwaizumi-san, won't you walk with us?" y/n asked him "we're neighbours too right?"
"ah actually, sure-" iwaizumi cut himself off as he caught a glimpse of oikawa looming over her shoulder
the brunette was giving him an exaggerated frown, paired with his 'puppy dog eyes' and even some tears for the effect. its not that iwaizumi was swayed by the expression. frankly, he just didn't want to look at it any longer so he denied.
"actually.. you guys can walk together. i think my mom needs me now. stay safe though" he said. y/n nodded and waved him off while oikawa send him a grateful smile and a wave. iwaizumi simply flipped him off and waved the rest goodbye.
"so, anything else you want, y/n-chan?" oikawa cooed as he watched her chomp down her meal
"milkshake.." y/n muttered with a delighted look on her face. "milkshake it is!" oikawa exclaimed. he then turned to yahaba who was grumbling by the corner and grinned.
"cmon then, yahaba-kun~ she said she wanted a milkshake! chop chop!" oikawa chuckled. yahaba rolled his eyes but pulled out his wallet anyways. "why am i getting treated like this?" he silently sulked
"well you were the one who invited us after all" oikawa mused. "i invited y/n, not all of you!" yahaba whined
by the side, hanamaki and matsukawa simply watched, sneering and laughing to themselves while they ate. "this is gonna be a long night" hanamaki let out a sigh "who cares? yahaba's treating us" matsukawa shrugged
"i never said that!" yahaba shrieked out
"how do you feel?" oikawa asked her. "full.." she replied with a satisfied sigh "thanks for inviting me, everyone" she said
Tumblr media
"no problem, y/n-senpai!" kindaichi replied as he and kunimi waved her goodbye "bye guys!" the rest of them said as the team dispersed to their own routes.
"guess its just us now" oikawa mused as he stuffed his hands in his jacket pockets. "right." y/n nodded as she slowly skated beside him
"sure, oikawa-san. i'd like that" she smiled
"let's walk together tomorrow too" oikawa suggested. "i'll invite iwa if you want"
"this'll be like our routine from now on" oikawa cheered "us three will be best friends in no time" he sent her a  wink
"best friends.." she muttered "i already-"
"-have a best friend, i know" oikawa finished her sentence with a laugh "it's fine to have more than one best friend, ya know?" he mused
"more than one.." she hummed thoughtfully "someone other than reki..?" she muttered to herself
she looked down at her feet and her board, then back at oikawa and the slightly starry sky. it was quite similar to the daily routine she has with reki. skating together to school, eating out, and skating back home. it provided her a strange sense of deja vu.
"that sounds nice." she said with a smile
oikawa smiled back and put his hands behind his head as he walked. "yeah it does." he agreed
"i look forward to being best friends with you guys" she said
sorry for the spelling / grammar mistakes if there are any :<
"me too, y/n."

hq boys: would they go to jail?
headcanons on the haikyuu boys’ encounters with the local authorities... this was meant to be a joke but i put way too much effort into it so now i’m s q u i n t i n g
hinata shoyo: this boy was caught trespassing on somebody’s property after diligently trying to accomplish something as harmless as finding a lost ball or petting a small cat... he’d climbed the fence and spent a maximum of FIVE minutes there, only for the owner to accuse him of breaking and entering without any room to explain himself. imagine: the poor boy being dragged by the ear despite his protesting. he’ll get an earful when he has to ask kageyama to pick him up after the police release him with a stern warning
kageyama tobio: tobio and his tendancies to disguise himself for ridiculous reasons is going to get him in trouble because they’re shitty and VERY suspicious most likely he’ll be one of his investigative escapades with his hat and glasses, only to be stopped and asked what he’s doing. that’ll be real embarrassing for him to explain, though it doesn’t end up getting more serious than that when they realise he’s just a kid
tanaka ryūnosuke: can i say almost? TALKS SO MUCH CRAP, oh my god he won’t ever shut up so one day he’ll bite off more than he can chew. he’d get into a serious looking argument and someone mentions calling the authorities. cue a 180 personality change up where he’s scratching his neck and apologising to everybody that’s stopped to watch. tanaka is no criminal, he just has a short fuse temper and a mouth that likes to RUN faster than his brain can catch up. he’s had a few close calls
nishinoya yuu: he’s DEFINITELY told people he’s been to jail LMAO like it’s something he mentions to girls whilst picking them up thinking that’s somehow attractive, when in reality he’s never even set foot in a police station. he might have once as a child for harmless reasons, but got scared and started crying his eyes out so they had to take him outside. he’s lowkey TERRIFIED of ever crossing paths with the law
tsukkishima kei: he’d never end up in jail or even in a situation that involved the police but he’s definitely not going to answer your call if you’ve ended up there and need a ride home, keep calling and he’ll block you until morning comes
daichi sawamura: post time-skip he’s a literal police officer so that’s out of the question
sugawara koushi: absolutely not. unlike tsukki, he will pick up though. he’d be surprisingly scary when lecturing you all the way back but would ask you if you want to stop and get something to eat, since you’ve had quite the day
yamaguchi tadashi: he wouldn’t. he’s overly cautious about most things and is definitely that friend who tugs on you and asks if it’s really okay to be doing this. par example: wondering into a restricted zone because you’re convinced it’s a short cut. he’d adamant to turn back and if, unfortunately, you did get caught, cue some intense waterworks from this poor boy, begging them not to call his parents. you’d feel pretty bad after that one
bokuto koutarou: i read a post from somewhere else about bokutou not understanding that paying tax as an adult is mandatory and extremely illegal if you don’t and it cracked me up because i can genuinely imagine the bewilderment in his face when he’s told he, a newly turned adult, has to pay the government a certain sum of money
“but it’s my money.”
“yeah, but it’s taxation, you have to pay the government.”
“but the government paid me first.”
once somebody mentions jail, he’s quick to end the argument and just deal with it, much to his dismay
akaashi keiji: he’s the one doing the explaining to bokuto. they’ve had this conversation at least 17 times and show no signs of stopping. akaashi is sensible and seems like the type of guy most his friends reach out to if they’re in tricky situations with the law, he’ll /begrudgingly/ wake up at 2am to come get you
kuroo tetsurou: he likes to do his deviant work when he’s belligerently drunk. like, someone told him shotgunning beers at a public gathering wouldn’t do too much harm. they were severely mistaken. tetsu has absolutely ZERO filter when he’s that intoxicated, picking verbal fights in club bathrooms with anybody over absolutely nothing. though chances are, he’ll end up befriending them and sharing a few more drinks. if not, kenma is there to supervise him. he’ll feel apologetic in the morning
kenma kozume: you have kenma to thank when it comes to preventing things from getting serious. he’s cool-headed and knows how to drag you out of situations. he won’t scold you, he’ll just tell you to stop causing everybody trouble. it’d make you feel bad and you’d probably quit it
oikawa tooru: he’s probably been in a few situations that could’ve lead to getting a permanent criminal record. tooru is convinced he’s never in the wrong for ANYTHING and will not listen to any kind of constructive critism. pretends to be fine when he’s literally screaming inside.
“your car was parked incorrectly.”
“uh, no. i really don’t think so.”
“look at it.”
“i am. i’m looking.”
“it’s covering two parking spaces.”
“that’s simply a matter of opinion.”
asks kindaichi or iwaizumi to help. they straight up refuse, walking away respectively.
ushijima wakatoshi: this man is intent on keeping a clean record in order to reach his goal of playing professional volleyball. states that it also gives him a clear conscience because toshi is for some reason very big on morality. he’ll come get you because -and i quote- ‘it’s my job’ but he’ll try to lay down piece by piece why exactly having run-ins with the police is so crippling to your future. you’re forced to listen for the entire 30 minute trip home
tendou satori: nobody knows where this man is at 3am. he’s just.. somewhere. you’re certain he’s not doing hard crack under some passageway but he’s not at home with his feet up either. he’ll start to mention last night’s escapades and stop himself, mumbling that it was definitely illegal and that he probably shouldn’t tell you. you can’t coax information out of him, though he wishes he could tell you. he just can’t. maybe it’s cult stuff...
miya atsumu: speaking of cars, this man straight up ignored the letter he got from the local authorities telling him his court date for the speeding ticket he recieved a few days ago. thinks it’s utter bs and continues to flutter around it until they knock on his door. atsumu proceeds to ARGUE with them about his speeding ticket until they ask him to come with them.
“yer tellin’ me i have to pay for going a little too fast?”
“sir, you were going fifty-two in a fourty mph area.”
is it his pride? is he just a blithering idiot? he’s one of the only people to probably end up in a holding cell for a short duration of time. none of his friends let him drive anymore.
miya osamu: he likes to use atsumu’s misfortunes to embarrass him. it’s an easy way to one-up himself when things get competitive. at least HE never got caught shirtless and drunk with his friends at the outdoors swimming pool a little past midnight.
atsumu states that it was ONE TIME when he was newly eighteen and to stop bringing it up in every argument. osamu himself doesn’t really bother with recklessness, so you simply won’t catch him in situations like that.
rintaro suna: straight up not having a good time and leaves before anything bad arises. will respectfully hang up on you mid-explaination because he has other things to do than bail you out
sakusa kiyoomi:??????? no
korai hoshiumi: okay, he has to admit that he’s a little curious... like there’s no way he’d want to actually end up in jail but he just wants to know?? like yes, there’s consequences but human existence is temporary.. his friends have to check up on him just to make his enthusiasm hasn’t landed him somewhere troublesome
bonus
yuji terushima: currently in holding for posession of an unknown substance. might be protein powder, might not. he won’t tell anybody.

Random Haikyuu Head Canons I Have
these are all taken from my discord server cause i remember to write them there, if you want to request fanfics, my requests are W I D E open! there is also nO order! these are just all the headcanons i could find tbh
warnings: mentions of blood, and just overall wild times, swearing
Tumblr media
Asahi loves knitting sweaters because his shoulders are broad and he also loves seeing the reactions from his teammates when they get a sweater from him! He says he buys them but he doesn’t
Aone likes knitting socks because he has big feet and he loves fluffy knee high socks but his team will never know
Asahi and Aone regularly hang out and knit together! (after asahi wasnt scared of him anyways)
Nishinoya gives you shiny rocks he finds because “your eyes shine like them!”
Yamaguchi likes to have your head rest on his chest while cuddling!
Aone likes to bake
Aone dressed like a polar bear because koganegawa told him to- halloween was amazing
daICHI HAS A KISS THE COOK APRON
Daichi secretly can make some kick ass steak and is amazing at grilling sorry
Okay but real talk, Kenma and Yaku swear like sailors and it scares everyone because they always whisper the most foul, insulting things under their breath. Hearing it is like seeing a cryptid
Speaking of cryptids, Fukunaga and Shibayama are THE most true crime, mythology, and mystery obsessed fanatics on the team and often fanboy about it together
Fukunaga’s obsession with moth man has gotten to an unhealthy stage
Kenma absolutely had a vampire phase and has read twilight. Only Kuroo knows and has sworn to secrecy via blood pact
Kuroo’s a musical nerd. Knows all of the lyrics to Hamilton, BMC, DEH, Heathers, Rent, Beetlejuice, Etc. Kenma considered dropping him because of it
Iwaizumi tells the worst dad jokes and Kyotani, wanting to beat him, started doing it too and it drives everyone insane
Yahaba and Matsukawa get along surprisingly well. Both are true crime freaks and bond over their forensic files obsessions
Matsukawa didn’t really like his thick eyebrows so he got one of his female friends to pluck it for him, but almost cried and gave up after the first hair. Oikawa called him a pussy for the next year
Hanamaki jokingly flirts with everyone on the team so most of them just got used to it, but it still confuses Kindaichi to the point of mental breakdown
Makki called Kyotani ‘puppy’ as a joke once and now mad dog is truly terrified of him
Kyotani’s dog absolutely ADORES Oikawa and it’s the funniest shit to the rest of the team
Mattsun and Makki play DnD and once convinced Yahaba and Kyotani to join. Kyotani kept rolling to fight everyone and Yahaba was a bard that kept rolling to seduce everyone. They kept yelling across the board so they had to kick them out
Outside of his school uniform, Goshiki specifically wears only plaid
Tendou makes little chocolates for the whole team every once in a while so they don’t think he’s scary
Semi and Shirabu once had a fistfight in an abandoned McDonald’s parking lot while Tendou filmed and Goshiki cheered them on
Everybody makes fun of Shirabu’s haircut but nobody dares to say it to his face. its gotten to the point where they say he got it done by a blind old lady
There’s a running joke about Shirabu also getting his haircut from prison but Goshiki is starting to suspect that it may not be a joke
Yamagata and Tendou are good friends with the mutual goal of collecting as much blackmail on their team as possible
Tendou loves animals generally considered to be ‘ugly’ like rats, crows, reptiles, etc.
80% of Goshiki’s playlist is shit overplayed on the radio. Him, Shirabu, Tendou, Kawanishi and Ushijima have a permanent ban from the aux cord
Nobody watches YouTube with Ushijima because he never skips the damn ads (other than tendou)
Suna once said y’all’dn’t’ve unironically and made a first year cry
Akagi once said UwU unironically and had an identity crisis.
Osamu has one of those rainbow gaming keyboards and is constantly on a discord call. Atsumu always yells weird shit in the background to embarrass him and once pretended to be him
During Seijoh group chat arguments. Hanamaki and Mattsukawa like to drop facebook minion memes in just to piss everyone off even more
mattsun and maki both have separate photo albums in their phones labelled ‘minion memes to piss everyone off’
Hinata carries a pocket knife and no one has no fucking idea why
mattsun and maki both have matching rat fursuits that look like they actually where in a sewer- they chased oikawa around
For all his talk of plant analogies and metaphors, Ushijima cant grow shit
Goshiki’s Bangs are the way they are because his favorite character was Rock Lee from Naruto
Oikawa has watched Ouran High School Host Club front to back so many times and he can quote all of Tamaki’s lines by heart -He keeps bothering Iwaizumi to “be his Haruhi, since you’re shorter than me”
Koganegawa has definitely gone as an Angry Bird for Halloween
Fukunaga has those reflective cat eyes, and he has terrified Yamamoto on several occasion
Hanamaki and Matsukawa have a teddy bear that they pretend is their child and they share custody
Suga always sprays whipped cream straight into his mouth whenever he sees a can
Nishinoya definitely bit people as a kid
Nishinoya would be the guy to wear shorts all year round and even if it's snowing, he'll insist he's not cold
Tendou is still stuck in his emo phase and would fangirl over Creepypasta with me and I appreciate that (me too buddy, me fuckin too)
Kyoutani LOOKS like he’d listen to viking death metal, but in reality he listens to Mother Mother and knows all the words to Ghosting
Sugawara would definitely encourage me to dumb shit and not stop me, and you’re all dumb for thinking he wouldn’t
KENMA IS NOT ‘uwu owo’ SHY, HE IS ‘your fucking gross’ SHY SO LITERALLY STFU
Bokuto listens to Nicki Manaj. And knows all the words. To every. Single. Song.
Ushijima for some reason knows an odd amount of 90′s-2000′s R&B and he will hum along to the songs if they come on the radio (he also loves Dolly Parton) ((he says he relates to her music))
Bokuto once ate instant ramen for an entire month
TERUSHIMA DID TRY TO FUCK A PLANT WHILE SHITFACED AND GOD I STAND BY WHAT I SAID
atsumu let’s you put makeup on him and pretends to eat the brushes (do yk what im talking about- like n o m)
tendou ran for school president as a joke but actually won
i 100% believe that all of karasuno’s third years apologize when they bump into inanimate objects, but when suga is really tired or stressed out, he’ll yell at them instead.
Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Taketora have a group chat called "Bros who want sum hoes" and they send each other hypebeast memes and shit
Sugawara knows how to do a bunch of flexible shit because he sometimes goes to yoga with daichi and asahi's moms, its fucking hilarious
tanaka and noya both breakdance- they work as a team and sometimes go to tokyo for underground competitions- saeko drives them
Daichi knows a little ballet- nobody other than Kiyoko knows because they saw each other at the ballet class and had to work together- dont tell tanaka and noya that he lifted her though
Osamu once put glitter on Atsumu's pillow- he still finds hot pink glitter on shit
kita knits and crochets with his grandma
Kita's grandma knows everyone's names because kita talks shit bout them, her favorite is Aran
Kuroo has burnt his eyebrows off doing an experiment. His goggles didn't cover all his brows,,, so he just showed up to practice like that. No eyebrows and a chemical burn
kenma has played all kinds of games, but he was dared to play corpse party by kuroo. He wasn't scared because of the gore, he was thinking about the trauma the characters went through. Punched kuroo the next day because that game was fucked up
Lev isn't a strong swimmer, so he often grabs people by the head to keep himself up. happened with kenma and lev couldn't walk due to the force of kenmas suprised water kicks
akaashi has those fancy pens that you have to dip in ink and they're so nice
Bokuto has and will eat pencil erasers again
Daichi once almost lost his shit at his team but instead he lost his shit at the door that decided to stub his toe on the way out of the gym. not the best thing to be found yelling to.
Yamaguchi for sure has been dragged to one of terushimas parties because he didnt wanna say no. oh and terushima has like frat boy level parties too. Yams has for sure had some wild nights and doubts anyone other than Tsukishima and the party-goers will ever know
Akaashi can actually flirt very well! He reads romance novels sometimes and has analyzed any and every book in his possession! so he's actually quite charming
Daihsou unironically posted on twitter after mika broke up with him "I still see her shadows in my room"
Mattsun and Maki run a fake oikawa account; its been going ever since twitter even started getting popular and they even started sending messages in spanish. The posts would range from "I love all my fans!" to flirting with them :) Oikawa is pissed cause the account got verified before he did and most of his fans also follow the fake oikawa. Tooru has no idea who runs it JUST IMAGINE OIKAWA JUST LIKE RANTING TO THE SEIJOH 3RD YEAR ALUMNI AND JUST "no Iwa-chan, you dont understand! they run a fake account and pretend to be me!" while makki and mattsun laugh their asses off
Oh, kenma for sure has pretended to be a girl on discord and has gotten someone to buy him stuff. after they do he says in his normal voice "fucking simp" and then hangs up and blocks the other persons discord
Yamamoto, despite his rough appearance, loves kids and has and will be a human jungle gym
suna in middle school had a game with his friends about who could make kids cry the fastest
The twins switched places back in middle school and nobody could tell because of how great they are at acting like eachother
Daichi once arrested coach ukai for public intoxication after a game :|
Daichi has arrested many people from his old volleyball team but the most memorable case was when he arrested tanaka and noya for reckless driving. poor idiots got so scared when they saw their old captains face in their mirror and started to pray
tanaka, while trying to intimidate someone, once said "You dont gotta tell me twice, i may be straight but these hands are bisexual" and he often cringes at night thinking about it
Kageyama, as a comeback to Tsukishima, said "one thing about us royalty is that we love to feast" and he also fuckin hates what he said
the third years made a cult for Kiyoko. they chant every wednesday "i'll do anything for kiyoko, she makes me go loco"
oikawas fangirls are known to be fucking rabid
yAMAMOTO AND KENMA AFTER THEIR FIGHT WERE FORCED BY KUROO TO MAKE IT UP: so they dyed their hair together
Makki and mattsun sang two trucks in front of the entire team. everyone was so confused. Makki: "twO TRUCKS HAVIN SEX!!" Mattsun: "oH yEs!"THEY'D SWITCH OFF AND HAVE LIKE CHOREOGRAPHY TOO LIKE THEY'D DO A TANGO WHILE THE SONG IS LIKE "two beer trucks, making love"
tendou once called Oikawa "mr. no-nationals" and got kicked in the shins before iwaizumi could save him
Tsukishima had a my little pony phase
you work with matsukawa at a morgue and he makes dead people jokes while you fix some dead guys face with wax and makeup he'd be like "so didnt he like,,, stick his head out of the sunroof of a moving fuckin car??" he'd be singing dumb ways to die the entire day
i feel like Kuroo has one crazy accident a year. like it might not be deadly but its fucking crazy like for example: Kuroo for sure has ridden in a shopping cart at past midnight with kenma (who pushed him down a hill) causing Kuroo to get scratched up hella well. he lied and said he spent the night with a girl and kenma fucking hated himself cause he would be the girl if that was true
Mattsun has flirted with the 4th years moms before (AS A JOKE), and because of this: he is known as “fuckin milf hunter” sometimes by the team
Warning, this next headcanon is talking about cannabis, weed, mary jane, the zoink root. so if your uncomfortable, please dont read below :)
dude i wanna get high as SHIT with Asahi
i think Asahi would be one of those mfkers who takes one hit and is gone
ASAHI ACCIDENTALLY GOING TO PRACTICE ZOINKED
IMAGINE HIM SEEING TSUKISHIMA AND JUST "he looks so judgemental,,, im scared"
OR LIKE A MAD DAICHI AND JUST "i'm gonna,,, im gonna go jump out the window now"
Noya and Tanaka would know tho, i feel like they'd have a 6th sense when it comes to weed. they probably get some from Saeko cause she'd rather they do it in the house. they'd smell asahi like fucking dogs and just so,,, big guy had fun without us huh?
DAICHI WOULD KNOW ABOUT ASAHI BEING ZOINKED, SMASH HIS FACE INTO THE WALL, TURN AROUND WITH A RED MARK ON HIS FOREHEAD AND WITH A BEAMING SMILE AND FEUX ENTHUSIASM SAY: "YOSH, LETS WARM UP!"

WEDNESDAY
4:45 PM
“Kindaichi, nice kill!” Iwaizumi’s voice boomed in the midst of the constant squeaking of volleyball shoes against the wooden floor. It was yet another busy afternoon practice session for Seijoh’s boy’s volleyball club for Iwaizumi Hajime. As the vice captain, he has a range of responsibilities to fulfill.
These responsibilities include keeping trouble makers in line.
“Kyotani! You’re late! Start stretching already!” Iwaizumi yelled at the second year student who came almost two hours late. The blonde buzzcut haired boy clicked his tongue at his senior but complied anyway.
Additionally, a vice captain should also help those in need.
“What’s the matter, Yahaba?” Iwaizumi approached his troubled looking junior who was staring at the volleyball in his hands. “Ah, Iwaizumi-san, I can’t seem to set the ball accurately enough in a high toss.” He muttered out of frustration. Iwaizumi being the resident wing spiker swallowed the lump in his throat as he attempted to find advice for the younger setter.
Of course, Yahaba’s worry can be eradicated with a snap of a finger if the club had one of the best all rounder players in the whole prefecture. Iwaizumi’s workload can certainly also be lifted if he had a reliable captain on his side.
If only Seijoh had such a good ace setter as their captain.
In reality, Seijoh did have one. Until that specific player, who happens to be the captain, decided to throw an emo fit suit for a thirteen year old boy going through puberty.
“I’m sorry, I know I should be asking Oikawa-san for advice but he’s just er…” Yahaba quietly said, confused on how to act around Oikawa with his sudden character change. “It’s fine, I’m sorry I can’t really help you with this but I’ll try asking that idiot when I can.” Iwaizumi sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, embarrassed at himself that he couldn’t help his junior.
As Yahaba shuffled away to practice his tosses, Iwaizumi caught the coach signaling him to come over. “Iwaizumi, are you sure you can’t do anything about him? We have a practice match after this.” Coach Irihata sighed, his eyes signalling to the brunette setter sitting absent minded in the corner of the gym. Iwaizumi closed his eyes and took a deep long breath before answering his head coach, “I’ll get him moving, don’t worry.”
Coach Irihata gave the vice captain a sympathetic smile. It has been two week since Y/N last spoke to Oikawa and his performance as a setter and human being in general has quickly deteriorated. Two to three days into the last two weeks, he was still acting normal though Iwaizumi has caught him spacing out a bit too much than usual but now that the two week mark has passed, Oikawa appeared to be a completely different person.
“Oi, Shittykawa.” The wing spiker huffed, kicking the setter’s foot lightly.
“What.”
“Get up.”
“You’re not my mom, you can’t tell me what to do.”
“I said GET UP” Iwaizumi snapped, kicking Oikawa’s foot harder than before. Oikawa rolled his eyes at his best friend but did as he was told.
Iwaizumi gathered the rest of the team towards Oikawa and him with his broad shoulders wide. “Alright everyone, we have Date Tech coming in a few minutes for a match or two so we better get straight sets okay?” Iwaizumi announced to the rest of the team. “Alright!” the array of high schoolers chanted.
“Whatever.”
Tumblr media
4:50 PM
“Oikawa, it’s your turn to serve.” Matsukawa said as he handed the ball to his captain. Oikawa turned to the score board and sighed as it showed the ten point gap between his own team and Date Tech’s.
Oikawa walked over to the end of the court with the ball in his hands, bouncing it up and down before cracking his neck in an attempt to focus though all efforts diminished as high pitched screams filled the room.
“Oikawa senpai! Good luck!” A second year girl who Oikawa doesn’t even recognize screamed from the bleachers. The collection of high pitched squeals filled OIkawa’s ears. Iwaizumi smirked at himself, thinking that his girl-crazed friend would at least improve his mood by a little bit from hearing his female fans’ support but instead widened his eyes as he watched OIkawa click his tongue and gave them a death glare.
The court immediately fell silent from the unexpected gesture of the usually charismatic captain. Hanamaki and Matsukawa’s jaws dropped at the sight of him ignoring his fans he usually fawns over.
Oikawa took several steps back and proceeded to run forwards towards the court, throwing the ball up and slamming his hand hard at the ball.
“Out!” Sakunami, Date Tech’s libero yelled out a second before the ball slammed against the area beneath the white line that marked the court.
“Shit.’ Oikawa swore out loud as the rest of the Seijoh team swallowed the lump in their throats.
Tumblr media
6:12 PM
Oikawa walked home under the quickly dimming sky with his hands in his pockets. His heart was far from content especially after losing to his opponent of the day. His phone was still in his right hand. His fingertips still had a sliver of hope for a buzz or two signifying Y/N’s texts.
“Quit following me.”  Oikawa stopped in his tracks to whip his head back towards the ace of the team who was five steps away from him
Iwaizumi walked over to his friend and put his dominant hand on his shoulder before hitting him on the head. “We’ve been going to the same train station for three years now, don’t get ahead of yourself, Shittykawa.” Iwaizumi growled.
Oikawa giggled, contradictory to Iwaizumi’s expectations. “What’s so funny? Have you finally lost your mind?” Iwaizumi raised his eyebrow at the boy.
“Nothing, it’s just that...Thank you, Iwa-chan.” Oikawa sighed softly, a bittersweet smile on his face.
“Ha? Are you thanking me for hitting you? Cause I can do a lot more after your shitty behaviour today.” Scowled Iwaizumi.
“I know I’ve been such a pain in the ass, I mean, more than usual, and surely if I were you I would’ve ditched my ass ages ago.” Oikawa started as Iwaizumi gawked at his unusual self awareness. “I know it sounds silly but hearing you call me that just made me relieved. At least someone in my life doesn’t hate me, y’know.” He continued softly.
“She doesn’t hate you.”
“She does.”
“You’re right.”
“Iwa-chan’s an idiot! You’re supposed to comfort me more. Boo!” Oikawa pouted, throwing a fake tantrum before starting to walk forward again towards the station.
Iwaizumi jogged to catch up with his best friend, whose head was tilted down once again. Though he couldn’t see his face clearly through Oikawa's obnoxiously big hair, he could tell his facial expression went back to the one he has had for over two weeks.
“What would you say to her if you get to talk to her again?” Iwaizumi started the conversation again after walking in silence for a handful of minutes.
Oikawa hesitated, fumbling his walking pattern for a second. “I don’t know. I just want to see her again. Am I bad?” He asked though it sounded more rhetoric to Iwaizumi.
“No.” Iwaizumi put his hand on the lighter haired boy’s hair and ruffled it.
“But you better have something to say.” he said under his breath, quiet enough for Oikawa to not notice at all.

THURSDAY
6:08 PM
“Goodbye everyone!” You exclaimed to the rest of the team before hopping off the steps of the gym. You ran your fingers through your hair as you began to walk towards the school gates. It has been a while since you walked back home yourself. Kageyama had an english test the following day so Daichi made him and Hinata stay back so Tsukishima could tutor them for a while. Though you insisted on helping them, Kageyama affirmed that you should go first before it gets too dark. Though Kageyama was never the talkative type, not hearing a second set of footsteps along with yours made you feel a little bit lonely.
You skipped your way to the gates, feeling oddly happy before your eyes unexpectedly caught sight of a certain school’s white jacket. Your legs stopped moving instinctively. With the turquoise text printed on the back of the jacket, you had no doubt that it was an Aoba Johsai student.
Though upon further inspection, you sighed in relief as you noticed the back of the person’s head was nowhere close to Oikawa’s hair style. There was just simply no way for OIkawa’s curls to stand spiked up like the boy’s hair.
You quietly began to walk again, not giving the student a second thought before he promptly called out your name with his unrecognized raspy voice.
“Y/N?”
“Y-Yes?” You turned your head slowly towards the Seijoh student. You didn’t know how he knew your name or what business he had with you but you already had a bad feeling in your gut about him.
“Ah, Um, please don’t be afraid, I mean I guess I would be if I were in your shoes.” He said as he scratched the back of his neck, lowering his head slightly. “You might’ve heard of me. I’m Iwaizumi Hajime.”
The hairs on the back of your neck stood up immediately. That name didn’t take you long to recognize. With the amount of times Oikawa brought him up in conversations, only an idiot would forget the Iwaizumi Hajime, despite never meeting him.
Though fear, quickly turned to anger. Your head started to heat up as you balled your fists, turning sharply to face Oikawa’s best friend directly.
“Look, if Oikawa-san told you to come here just ge-”
“He didn’t tell me to! I’m not here for him- well, I am...but whatever you have in mind, it’s not it.” Iwaizumi frantically said, his hands waving in front of him though he retracted them quickly, avoiding giving you the wrong idea.
“Please. Just let me explain.” He started to speak again, but this time much softer. You watched as his thick eyebrows drooped as the amount of hope slowly began to slip in between his fingers.
“Make it quick.” You crossed your arms and prayed that none of the Karasuno team would bump into you and Iwaizumi.
“Oikawa...He really does care for you.” Iwaizumi started, biting his tongue right after to avoid the cringe expression he was dying to show after saying the phrase he just said to you. “And I don’t want to overstep anything, well I guess I already am since Oikawa doesn’t know that I’m here, but I’m not lying Y/N. I-It’s amazing how you actually managed to tame that bastard, actually. I’ve never seen him act like this before in the whole twelve years I've known that idiot.” He sighed.
Your eyes widened at the things the stranger you just met have said. Tame? Acting differently? You didn’t know what he was saying and you hate yourself for even having a conversation with Oikawa’s partner in crime but your curiosity got the better of you.
“What do you mean by acting differently?” You tried your best to remain indifferent and unbothered though snippets of your true intention probably have slipped out in between your words.
“Where do I even start! Man, Matsukawa and Hanamaki have been going insane after seeing him like that for too long.” Your ears perked up at the sound of two more familiar names you recognised from Oikawa’s conversations. “Well, for a start, all life and light has been sucked dry from him. He has resorted to one word replies and sighs to everything compared to his usual sickening monologues he drops every now and then. He, the guy who checks the mirror as many times as he blinks, shows up to school without even brushing his hair anymore. He has abandoned his pride and joy, volleyball, completely now, not even being able to serve properly without hitting the net or out of the court.” By the time he had finished saying his last word, Iwaizumi was gasping for air which you admittedly laughed at.
“Trust me, I could go on and on and I’m even sugar coating all this shit I’ve had to go through ‘cause of his dumbass!” He sighed.
“Now, I’m not going to force you to do anything but please, could you hear him out just for a while at least?” He begged, the desperation evident in his eyes. You bit your lip as your gaze traveled from the third year to the ground.
Before you could open your mouth, a sudden ringtone filled the surroundings of the deserted Karasuno school gates. “Ah shit, it’s Oikawa.” He swore as he checked his ringing phone. “I gotta get going, he’s not supposed to know that I’m here. Y/N, I’m sorry if I crossed a line, you don’t have to give me an answer now, just think about it, ‘kay?” He calmly sighed after sliding his still ringing phone back into his pocket. You didn’t know how to respond so all you could do was nod and bid him farewell.
The moment you got home, you threw all your belongings to a corner of your room and jumped into bed face first. It was all too overwhelming. You didn’t know what to do or what to say.
To forgive or to not forgive?
Did you want to see Oikawa again? Of course you did. But could you take the truth he would reveal? You knew deep in your heart ignoring him and leaving him without even hearing an explanation was childish and unfair but you knew you wouldn’t be able to take the truth. It would hurt even more if you heard it from his mouth instead of Hinata’s.
You grabbed your pillow and shoved your face into it harshly, drowning all light and letting yourself seep into the comforting darkness.
“I just want all of this to be over.” You whispered to yourself.

TABLE OF CONTENTS
———————————
Hours After You Noticed Aone For The First Time And Had Lunch Together! 🤫🥩
With a very discreet bounce in his step, Aone Takanobu walked into the Date Tech boys volleyball team changeroom after exchanging numbers with you after school.
“AONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Upon entrance, the entire team jumped him, tackling him to the ground while shouting praise and acclamations of joy loudly!
Aone was actually grinning, shoving the boys off of him to pretend that he was annoyed.
But anyone could tell that this mountain man was on cloud 9!!!!
Futakuchi reached out his hand to help Aone up and the mountain man took it. They shared a look that only Aone knew meant his best friend was happy for him. Proud of him.
Actually, Kenji’s look was one of happiness and pride, yes, but it was also full of nerves for his friend’s potential heartbreak. But Aone was too overjoyed inside to pick up on that.
“So Y/N finally knows your name!” Koganegawa yelled as he jumped on Aone’s back.
Shrugging the big boned setter off, Aone blushed. He has never been happier in his entire life and it was kind of embarrassing that the whole team knew why that was.
“I’m very happy.” Aone nodded at his team who smiled brilliantly back at him. “But please, do not get your hopes up. I’m trying with everything in me not to get mine up, in case Y/N decides she doesn’t like me. She and I are just going to start talking for now. And for that I am grateful.” Stomach in knots, Aone bowed to his team in thanks for all the encouragement and praise.
“But Aone-senpai, Y/N asked you to lunch! We all watched you guys, she looked ecstatic talking to you and she even glared at these other girls in the hallway because they were checking you out!”
Aone’s heart dropped. “She did?”
Kenji smiled, patting him on the back. “Saw it with my own eyes too, big guy.”
Aone felt like he was so happy he could sing, but he knew how odd that would look coming from such a big and serious guy like himself.
“Oh. Well... that’s quite nice.”
What a turn of events! This morning, Aone was going through another day with a heavy heart because the love of his life would never like him back. Then, it only took him defending you against the class snitch for everything to change......
✏️ Earlier That Day ✏️
Aone was sitting in class like any other day, doing his work, listening to the teacher intermittently and your daily conversation with your friends. The teacher excused himself to run a club errand for 20 minutes, trusting the class to stay quiet and complete their homework. Like most typical high school classes, the volume raised as soon as the teacher stepped out. Aone glanced over at your talkative self for the 15th time that period and noticed how much you were glowing because your team had returned last night placing second at Regionals. You looked radiant, absolutely stunning with your brighter smile and louder angelic laugh.
In Mountain Man’s daydream, he imagined telling you that you looked beautiful today followed by a congratulations for placing second. You would rush over to him and kiss him in thanks then start ripping his clothes off so that you could—
“Y/N! I am sick and tired of you and the rest of the popular kids not listening to the teachers instructions! What part of ‘stay quiet’ is hard to understand in that pea brain of yours!?!??!”
To Aone’s left, sitting in his row, he looked for the yelling voice. It was who everyone (except Aone) called ‘the class snitch’ and school mascot: Tsume Lian.
Also known as Y/N’s arch nemesis.
Seating looks like:
Tumblr media
Y/N glared at him.
“Tsume, no one was talking to you.”
“I know that, dork!” He fumed. “BECAUSE WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TALKING! I’m trying to do my homework as asked, and you and the popular crowd just ignore everything the teacher says and it’s disgusting! I’m tired of it! I want you expelled!”
Aone noticed Y/N’s startled expression at the prospect of being expelled, because he knew from overhearing your conversations that your parents were this close to sending you to Seijoh to get your grades up and live on campus there. According to your gossip last week, if you failed another class or got another complaint from a teacher then your parents would under no circumstances allow you to cheer again.
Aone clenched his fists tightly around his pencil because he couldn’t stand the idea of seeing Motomu or Kindaichi drooling over you at his enemy school.
One of Y/N’s friends who Aone knew as Kusa, spoke up in defence of Y/N. “Oh shut it, Tsume. Us chatting isn’t bothering anyone else.”
“I don’t care! You cheerleaders think you can do anything you want and that’s that!! YOU WILL face repercussions if I can help it!”
Kusa feigned fear. She turned her entire body toward him in her seat, meaning business. A bitch had time today.
The entire class gave this drama all of their undivided attention when they witnessed that move, ready for the show like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Oh yeah?! And why are you just snapping about this now, huh? Why not before?” Kusa snapped. You put a hand on your friends arm, silently trying to tell her he isn’t worth her energy.
“Because I realized just how selfish, inconsiderate, and deplorable you good-looking, popular women are! You don’t deserve to be bowed down to like I thought! You should be treated like everybody else!”
“What are you talking about?” Y/N interjected. “No one treats us like that. Even if they did, we don’t ask them to nor do we ask to be popular and we especially don’t ask for special treatment, Lian. Why are you so mad??? Get your life.”
COLLECT HIMMMMMM 👏🏾👏🏾
Aone smirked to himself. In all his years of crushing on you he has never seen you look so fierce and he too put his pencil down to enjoy what was a different and fiery side of his crush. It made him want to fuck the shit out of you, you looked so sexy. Aone found he liked every side of you.
“I did have a life. I was a mascot and—“
“—And you were spending too much time looking up our SKIRTS instead of hyping up a CROWD, making the first years uncomfortable and borderline stalking Y/N so badly she asked that we terminate you! You are lucky she kept that to herself for so long! 🤬 And THAT’S why you’re mad!”
The class collectively gasped. Some whipped their phones out to snapchat the gossip. Aone widened his eyes in silence, since he was in between, he was looking back and forth at the fight like a tennis match.
Hahahaha 🎾
Live footage of the classes reaction when Kusa READ TSUME FOR FILTH:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tsume went red with anger, but anyone could tell that he was guilty guilty guilty !!!!
“When the teacher returns, I’m telling him and the principal the truth that you Y/N are a bully and you constantly disrupt the class! Who do you think they’re going to believe?! Their best student? Or their worst?! Say hi to AobaJohsai summer school for me!”
You frowned, scared out of your mind because Lian was right. The teacher’s believed everything he had to say and ever since you exposed him for sending you creepy messages and inappropriate pictures from a fake account that you knew was his, the class snitch has had it out for you. Even if the cheerleaders had your back, your parents would just think they are trying to protect you and never believe it! Tsume Lian was smart and dead set on planning your demise. It was unfair. You wanted to cry. Kusa whispered something to you in encouragement but you could feel the back of your eyes warming due to impending tears.
Meanwhile, with Mountain Man - Today was a day of firsts in his ‘Crushing on Y/N’ book. It was the first time he’s ever seen you glowing because of the Regional results, it was the first time he’s ever seen you so sassy, and now............. Aone notes that today is also the first time he’s ever seen you on the verge of tears before.
Unlike your glowing and your sassiness, Aone decided that he hated the last first more than anything in the world.
It consumed his emotions, how badly he didn’t want to see you cry.
“You really are slimy, Tsume. Wait until Katana hears this.” Kusa spat, rubbing her hand up and down Y/N’s back to soothe you as you willed your tears not to fall.
Seeing you so sad, Aone’s heart clenched.
He knew what it was like to be hurting but he never ever wanted that for you—not ever.
“Hey Y/N-chan, why don’t you show me that video your mom got of our reaction to us placing second yesterday?? I’d love to see it.” Kusa has accurately distracted you because she texted Katana what was happening and Katana knew just what to do until she got there.
You smiled, thinking about the overwhelming happiness from yesterday when your team placed second. You whipped out your phone and showed Kusa, smiling and giggling in a matter of seconds as it played.
Aone was glad you seemed good.
He turned to look at Tsume, who seemed to be raging inside. Shooting daggers at the two cheerleaders because they weren’t crumbling under his threats. They were laughing, in fact. Ignoring him as if he didn’t matter. Aone could tell Tsume was a ticking time bomb with how mad he was. His anger toward you looked severely unhealthy.
You let out a rather amusing laugh with Kusa as you two pointed to your screen and Aone’s heart skipped a beat because he loved that laugh so much. God, he is so fucking whipped.
When you laughed like that though, it sent perverted-snitch Tsume over the edge, bubbling over in anger like a piping hot kettle.
Aone watched him with studious eyes as Tsume took a deep breath to say something else that Aone was sure would stop your harmonious laughter that he adored......
“Y/N—“ Tsume started, but without warning, THE AONE TAKANOBU, DATE TECH MIDDLE BLOCKER, OUR MOUNTAIN MAN, interrupted him! Stopping all speech in the class with his simple, deep-voiced command:
“Leave her be. She’s having fun.”
The class:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The class went silent because they’d never really heard Aone’s voice before. :S
Still riled up, the class snitch took one look beside him (he was too distracted before) as to locate the voice. Once his eyes set on the verrrry muscular and verrrry mountainous man sitting between him and Y/N, he decided it would be smart to not be riled up anymore. A drop of sweat leaving his hairline, Lian scanned Aone’s gigantic body with his eyes, seeing that the volleyball player just barely fit in his desk—he gulped.
Aone had a relaxed expression, meaning to say what he said nonchalantly, but one needs to remember that Aone’s relaxed expression looks like this:
Tumblr media
Needless to say, the ex-mascot almost pissed himself.
Is that Y/N’s b-b-boyfriend now? Tsume wondered to himself in panic as several more drops of sweat ran down his face.
“O-o-ok-o-o-oka-okay-y....” Tsume stuttered out as he turned back to his school work.
Five minutes later when the teacher came in, Tsume had nothing to say. He only had a sweat damped stack of homework to give him before he fled, not waiting for the bell of dismissal.
Did I frightened him? Aone thought.
He didn’t mean to. Sincerely. He was as gentle as giants come (except in bed if you rile him up enough or when someone is bothering you).
The class went back to normal and Aone continued working too.
But one person didn’t—no, couldn’t go back to normal:
You.
You sat in your seat still slack jawed because someone you didn’t know came to your rescue and quite possibly single handedly stopped your expulsion. How have you not noticed him before?! He is gorgeous!
Tall, muscular, handsome. Shiny white hair, beautiful lips. And he came to your defence.
In your opinion , he was a FINEASS mountain man! 🏔🤤
Yes ma’am!!!!
Anyway, while everyone was talking, working and minding their own business—including Aone—you slid out of your desk and bounced over to his happily.
“Hi! Thanks so much for defending me a little while ago!”
Bitch, this was you: ☺️😊😄
lost ass
Aone raised his head to look at you, jumping back slightly because he never even heard you approach. He stared up at you with a heart that stopped beating, absolutely speechless.
WHAT IS HAPPENING? He thought. YOU WERE TALKING................TO HIM? You were NOTICING..............HIM?!
😱😳🤯
You reached over to touch the handsome giant’s arm in his sweater, smiling at him endearingly.
“I’m Y/N! It’s nice to meet you!”
yeah you lost af, bitch 😐
Aone wanted to say something, he did. But he was just too shocked that the girl he thinks about nonstop, the girl he wishes was his, the girl he just had a wet dream about last night, was talking to him and only him for the first time.
Unexpectedly!
Takanobu always thought you two would first speak because of Futakuchi or the teacher but not because of him.
Aone couldn’t fathom the fact that HE made this happen! HE was the reason you were over here!
Aone: 🤯🤯🤯
It was ALL. TOO. MUCH.
He couldn’t speak.
You removed your hand from his arm, silently chastising yourself because you shouldn’t touch people without permission.
Not that Aone minded. That boy would want you to touch him anywhere, on anyday, at anytime that pleased you.
“Sorry.” You looked down shyly, then met his serious expression again, wanting to be sure he knew how grateful you were for his help.
“Um.... you probably don’t know this but you getting that pervert to leave me alone is quite possibly the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. And you did it for a stranger like me, no less.”
A/N: RUB IT IN THAT YOU DONT KNOW THE MAN MORE, WHY DONT YOU ?! 🤬
You tucked your hair behind you ear while holding his gaze. Aone could only nod because his throat was dry. You looked so incredibly perfect up-close and he wanted to make sure he remembered this. He just couldn’t speak.
Feeling a little awkward now because you just tried starting a conversation with this FINEASS classmate of yours to only get a nod in return, you laughed timidly.
“Okay, well I guess I’ll...” you turned on your heels so you could make your way back to your desk with your L. “....see you later.” You finished, telling him over your shoulder.
Much like when he defended you against Tsume, Aone didn’t know what came over him then: maybe it was all the memories of him feeling heartbroken that you’d never notice him or return his feelings—maybe it was the promise he made that he would do something toward pursuing you if you would just notice him first—or maybe is was because his best friend Kenji would have his HEAD if Aone told him he let you walk away right now without trying....... after TWO YEARS.........that compelled him to respond to your “see you later” bravely, FINALLY UTTERING WORDS TO YOU FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS ENTIRE LIFE:
“When?”
^Asked Aone, just as you were walking away from him.
You stilled, feeling excitement in your body because he answered. You spun around and jumped back in front of his desk. You gave him a questioning look.
You responded, “When, what?”
Even though he was melting under your attention, Aone couldn’t give up now. He had to shoot his shot. This may be his only chance.
“When is later?” He elaborated.
Huh? You thought.
You blinked at the stunning classmate. What is he—OH, does he mean.....
“As in...when will I see you again?”
Aone nodded at you, holding his breath.
You massaged your chin, thinking 🤔.
You can admit you wanted to know more about this gorgeous man who came to your rescue. There was something about him that made you feel safe and warm. You couldn’t quite place it. You’ve never wanted to spend time with anyone outside of cheerleading more than this guy—so you owed it to yourself to explore that small feeling, right?
“Okay. Well, how about now? Lunch is after this period. Would you want to have it with me?!” You asked cheerily.
Though he didn’t show it, inside, fireworks went off in Aone’s mind, heart, and stomach...!
Actual footage:
Tumblr media
Aone nodded quickly. Way too quickly for someone who did not want to come across as the most eager beaver in the world.
But he was...... and you noticed. It made you smile.
“Okay. So when the bell rings you can walk me to my locker and I’ll put away my stuff, then we’ll go to yours....then we can go head to lunch together. Sound good?”
Aone nodded quickly again!
You gave him the big smile that made him become a simp for you in the first place and you took your seat again.
Takanobu was so excited he literally almost stood up to spin the hand clock that hung up beside the door himself so that time could go by faster. He couldn’t even move to text Kenji because he knew his hands would shake.
He just sat there, his mind whirling mad until the bell finally rang. You said bye to Kusa and watched as this blonde hottie stood up from his seat, towering over you.
God, he was so freaking HOT! You wanted to jump him.
At the same time students filed out of the class, Aone turned to you as he collected his things then slung his bag over his shoulder.
“May I carry your books for you, Y/N?” Mountain man asked sheepishly in his stern voice.
Your heart fluttered by how cute and sweet he was to ask!
“Umm, sure! Thank you so much!” You smiled and handed your heavy books over.
You two walked beside eachother and Aone held the door open for you. You didn’t know why he was being so nice but you couldn’t lie that you felt very charmed.
“Y/N.”
You looked up at the handsome giant with curious eyes after he called your name.
“My name is Aone Takanobu by the way. You introduced yourself before, but I did not answer. I’m sorry. Either way, I knew who you were already. It’s very nice to meet you.”
Your smiled widened as you bounced on your feet while walking. “Very nice to meet you too, Aone Takanobu. I’ve actually heard of you before.”
Aone’s eyes lit up like 👀
“Wait r-really?”
Omg precious bby 🥺🥺🥺
“Yes. At a cheerleading sleepover. All good things, don’t worry. It’s just funny because I said that night how hopefully I’ll meet you and now here we are!”
Aone chuckled as he held open another door for you. When he did and you two walked down another hall, he caught sight of two very conspicuous volleyball players (one looked eerily like Justin Bieber, the other looked big boned) hugging eachother and slumping down to the ground at the sight of you and Aone. Aone rolled his eyes, thinking that they were lucky you never noticed your surroundings.
“Here we are.” Aone repeated, shooting a secret thumbs up at his friends who were on the verge of crying.
***
Nearing the end of an enjoyable lunch for both of you where you spoke a lot and Aone listened with heart eyes: he pulled your chair out for you, he was responding, he was chuckling, and overall hanging onto your every word, never wanting your time together to end. You became rather smitten.
***
“The bell is gonna ring soon, Aone. I just want to thank you again for buying my lunch and spending this time with me! I know it was super random!”
Aone got lost in your eyes as you said his name, because he’s never taken a moment to analyze how nice it could sound if it was caressed by your voice. Also, he’s never heard his name said by someone so beautiful (when it wasn’t being said in a question). He was BATHING in joy.
Although Aone didn’t answer and he’s maintained his stoic expression the entire lunch, deep down you felt that this man had a thing for you. He was very intense so it was quite obvious. But since you enjoyed the lunch so much and you were starting to have a thing for him, too, you wanted to confirm:
“Also, Aone-san, I’m happy to know that you can say more than 4 words 😲! I asked my friend earlier and she said you basically never speak.” You exclaimed, fishing.
Aone smirked, feeling the need to defend himself on that front. “It is true that that is the consensus of the majority of people who come in contact with me. However, that is because there exists few people, that I feel inclined to speak to.”
Hook, line, and sinker. Your eyes twinkled at his words. He looked like a jock but sounded so eloquent! You loved it:
“Oh wow well you spoke a lot to me today so I guess I must be a little special then, huh.......?” You twirled your hair around your index finger as you asked, causing Aone to almost drool.
listen, you...kind of..... wanted mountain man.
And you were only flirting minimally okay.....minimally, so don’t judge
You just wanted to know if your suspicions were right that he had a little crush on you or if he saw you as a friend
Aone looked down at you, thinking of a way to respond to you asking if you were special to him.
A/N: 😣🤞🏾AONE DONT CREEPY 😣🤞🏾DONT BE CREEPY 😣🤞🏾DON’T BE CREEPY 😣🤞🏾
“This is our first time speaking. So I am not entirely sure if you’re special yet...” He started.
You quirked your eyebrow attractively, anticipating how he would end that sentence.
“...But I hope that even after this lunch ends I can take you out again a few more times, Y/N-chan—somewhere nice and off-campus, perhaps—so that I can truly decipher whether you are or not.”
You quirked your eyebrow even higher, impressed by the smooth way he told you he wants to keep seeing you!
WELL SIS HES ONLY HAD 2 YEARS OF PRACTICE I MEAN—
“I’d love to.” You accepted, making Aone smile.
He was absolutely stunning when he smiled, it was almost unfair.
The bell rang.
“Mind walking me back to my locker, Aone?”
Aone stood on internally shaky legs that he willed to be normal. “Of course.” He took both yours and his tray and dumped it out before escorting you out of the cafeteria.
✏️ Back in the Locker Room ✏️
“We are happy for you, Aone.” Kenji patted his large friend on the back.
“I had your voice in the back of my mind, Kenji-san. I owe this happiness to you and your support. I know you’re worried that I’ll get my heart broken and be crushed but I’m thankful for you supporting me anyway. You will forever be my brother.”

Kunimi confessing to his waitress crush
requested: Read requests are open so could I request hc or scenario for kunimi ? The plot could be that he's been skipping practice more often than usual (lazy ass) and the guys wanna know why so they follow him after class and discover him going to a café. There he observes one of the waitress and they notice, so next day they go before him and interrogate the girl and when kunimi arrives he gets all mad and ends up confessing his feelings for her without aiming to 😂 Change anything you want! Thanks 💜
You gave me a lot to work with so thank you! I tried my best so please enjoy!
Kunimi Akira:
Tumblr media
Kunimi has always been a little... lazy? When he didn’t feel like playing volleyball after school he simply didn’t go to practice, what pissed off the others but frankly? He couldn’t care less.
He always found something else to occupy his mind with - be it homework he just wanted to finish, a new tv series he discovered or simply meeting with other friends.
Or, recently, getting one of his beloved salted caramel frappuccinos at the new cafe just down the street from the school, where you worked from time to time to get some money.
At first he only came for the beverage and some peace and quiet to finish his school work and just chill around, but the second time he came there he noticed you. He knew you from school but didn’t know anything else about you - until now.
He now knew your smile when you greeted your favourite guests, the way you quietly and peacefully hummed to yourself when cleaning the tables and the counter, your cute focused face when you prepared one of the drinks - No, he definitely did not develop a crush on you, absolutely not.
He also definitely didn’t come to the cafe every second day just to see you, hear your cheerful voice and have some smalltalk with you when he ordered his drink. No, he doesn’t do stuff like that (*wink, wink*).
Kunimi just liked your decent demeanor - you were a real sweetheart, not bothering anyone, not being too loud, nice to everyone and your salted caramel frappuccino was the absolute best he ever had *chefs kiss*
He started to care even less about practice, sometimes missing a whole week and the team was really not impressed. Oikawa tends to be a bit too nice with his members so it is Iwaizumi who says that they need to do something about it. Kunimi is a good player and shouldn’t lack in practice.
So the team decides to look into it and observe Kunimi at school, Kindaichi tries to adress the issue but Kunimi just brushes it off. “I feel like I’m gonna get sick, so I don’t wanna risk something by playing.”
Kindaichi actually believes it and lets the topic rest, but the other members still want to “investigate”, so practice falls flat for the day as everyone follows Kunimi down the street.
“He ditches practice... To go to a cafe?” “Well someone’s got his priorities straight.”
They position themselves outside, split in groups. Some sit at tables, others hide somewhere behind trees and bushes nearby. It’s absolutely hilarious, like the parody of an action movie. But Kunimi doesn’t notice them at all - You are the only thing on his mind as he drinks his frappuccino and tries to focus on the book he brought. But his eyes can’t help but wander to you whenever you walk by.
And of course the others notice. “Iwa-chan, I told you there was a girl behind it all~ No need to worry.” “There’s still a lot to worry about, Shittykawa. He clearly doesn’t have the balls to confess so...” “He’s gonna come here everyday, right?”, Matsukawa ends his teammates thought. Everyone agrees, so they make a plan to talk to you the next day and tell you about Kunimi, so maybe you’ll just ask him out and everything will be alright again.
Oikawa, Kindaichi and Iwaizumi take it in their hands and leave school early the next day to talk to you in peace. Your shift just started and it was barely lunch so the cafe was empty. You tried to pass time sitting behind the counter, scrolling through your phone when you suddenly heard the bell and jumped up. “Welcome! What can I do for you?”
“Oh we don’t want something to drink, instead we’d like to talk about something... A friend of ours, he comes here a lot, as we noticed.”, Kindaichi starts, but before he can continue, Oikawa starts talking: “He’s about this tall, has a cute face and an unhealthy obsession with salted caramel frappuccinos and he’s ditching volleyball practice because of you.” Iwaizumi wants so slap him so hard he’s gonna fly to Shiratorizawa, but your face finally lights up.
“Oh! Kunimi, right? I noticed he comes here often.” “Yeah, well, he does because of you.” “He is quite cute, though he seems a bit shy.”
So they talk to you about him and about volleyball and how it is important that he comes to practice because of his talent. They also try to list you as many of his good personality traits as possible so you would go out with him, but that was totally unnecessary. You were definitely willing to do so without all of this, but you weren’t sure how to approach him up until now.
“What the... What are you guys doing here?!” Kunimi comes in, eyes wide as his eyes wander from you to his team mates.
“Oh, Kunimi-chan, how fortunate that you show up here. We were just telling Y/N-chan about ... about...”
“About volleyball practice, that you’ve apparently been ditching lately. I’m sorry I was distracting you from something so important...”, you helped Oikawa out, but you just felt your cheeks getting hotter with every word you were saying. You were so glad a counter table was still between you so you had a little wall to shield you.
Kunimi thought he was being transported to hell and heaven at the same time. “You ... You were not ... distracting me!” “Clearly not, Kunimi-chan.” “Your crush is so obvious that it hurts, man.” “Just ask her out so you can focus on volleyball as usual.”
All eyes are on Kunimi as silence sweps through the room. A long minute passes like this before Kunimi looks at his team mates and says “Could you please leave? I don’t need an audience for this.”
Your blood begins to rush through your veins at an unhealthy speed when you’re alone with him and he looks at anything but you. “Your salted caramel frappuccino is really good.”, he begins. “But I think I would drink anything you make me, simply because of you...” You notice how he’s very visbibly struggling to find the right words, fiddling with his hands and hair and blushim himself.
“I’d love to go out with you.”, you blurt out before you can stop yourself, and Kunimi almost jumps at the noise and suddenness. You look at each other in shock, both your heads resembling tomatoes.
“But please something other than a coffee date, yes? I’m getting a little tired of those.”
So in conclusion, Kunimik comes to practice more regularly again and from time to time you even visit him and bring coffee for everyone along!

here I come with another request, if it's okay with you. how about the reader being aoba johsai team manager and are playing twister?Can you also make the reader really into it but Oikawa makes her slip and lose the round?(but not in a bad way, just playing and also because he was losing to her) Thank you
Sure! It was fun doing it :) also I didn’t know if you wanted Oikawa to have a crush on reader or not and you didn’t specify if it had to be a scenario or an headcanon. Hope you like it anyway!!

Twist and shout.
Oikawa Tooru x reader.
synopsis: we all know Oikawa Tooru doesn’t like to lose but flash news either you do.
word count: 1.3 K
tags: fluff
~~~
"Iwa you're stepping on my hand!"
"Oikawa, Hanamaki! I know you're looking at my ass, stop it!" thank god you changed in time and wore your sweatpants.
"You have no proof." the brunette replies you.
You snort annoyed, causing a slight laugh in the two. You don't remember who had the brilliant idea of playing twister, sure is that you curs him now, as well as you curs yourself for accepting.
You should have stopped them as a manager should do, but you have the bad habit of getting caught up by the third-year and getting dragged by their idiocies. The coaches had warned both you, the captain and vice-captain that you would be training alone, as they would be busy all the day in a meeting with other coaches about the volleyball tournament you would have in a few months. They had therefore decided to leave the training that afternoon in your, Oikawa and Iwaizumi’s hands, sure that at least you would not be misled by the boys and supervised the team for them, preventing the boys from being crackheads and skip the training. Unfortunately for the coaches, they put their hopes in the wrong person. Thinking about it, if you're manager of the Aoba Johsai volleyball club there's a reason and it would be that you love to joke and play with them too: you're a dork as much as they are, you love fooling around with these idiots.
It's just you, Iwaizumi, Oikawa and Hanamaki. Matsukawa had immediately given up participating, saying that he’s too tall to play, Watari became the judge and Kyotani had simply ignored y’all, having much more fun seeing you twisting. Kindaichi had lost after a couple of rounds, Kunimi had withdrawn in the first round, claiming he was way too tired to play.
Watari turns the hand again and this time it's Iwaizumi's turn to move his right hand to a blue square. Unfortunately, although the boy is an amazing spiker, he isn’t as amazing when it comes to moving on the board and loses his balance, falling to the ground and being eliminated.
Hanamaki can't hold back a laughter, same for Matsukawa, who looks at you with the rest of the team sitting on the floor; unlike them you try to restrain yourself, not wanting to offend your friend. The ace, not appreciating the comment, moves his leg and with a sort of trip let the other wing spiker fall, eliminating him too.
"That’s not fair! It's not my fault, Iwaizumi pushed me!" protests Hanamaki in vain, but Watari shakes his head ignoring the complaints, while Iwaizumi chuckles.
It's just you and Oikawa left and you know what this means: you'll have to be even more careful; you know that he’ll try in every possible way to make you lose. You're both very competitive and neither of you want to lose to each other.
You go on for another twenty minutes to move your arms and legs, twisting as much as possible and ending up in the strangest positions, most of them embarrassing, provoking the laughter of the rest of the team, who instead enjoys taking pics and making fun of you, trying to distract you and make you lose your balance. Despite the respect you know you've lost from your kohais (or at least definitely kunimi's), you're still having a lot of fun and letting yourself be dragged by the stupid jokes of your friends, making your audience on the gym floor laugh wholeheartedly.
By now you are almost at the end of the game: you feel it as Oikawa tries to keep his balance, failing miserably; you see him wobbling all the time next to you, as he tries to reach the yellow square under your belly. Even though you're having fun, you still hope he falls so you can win and finish the game, clean and tidy up the gym and finally go home. Unfortunately for you, the setter isn’t of the same idea: Oikawa has no intention of letting you win and if he has even the slightest chance to win, he certainly will not let it slip away. That's why, while reaching the square he shoves you, dropping you first and him shortly after follows you on the ground, ending the game.
"Oikawa! You bastard!” you yell at him, trying to hit him as hard as you can, while he is weighting on you.
“It was an accident; I didn't do it on purpose, you know how honest I am.” He claps back, looking at you with an innocent smile, while he's still lying on you.
"Liar! Hope you don't kiss your mom with that mouth." You reply annoyed, accepting the defeat and pushing him away with your hands on his chest, in an attempt to move and breathe a little.
The boy bursts out laughing and moves from you, getting up on his elbows and getting back on his feet, then stretching out a hand to help you get up. You accept it, but with a cunning smile, you pull him down, causing him to fall face-to-face on the board next to you, provoking laughter from the other players.
"Wow captain, you're so graceful even when you fall!" howls Makki with laughter, followed by Iwaizumi.
"I didn't think you could lower the level of your dignity even more Oikawa, and yet here we are." The middle blocker piles on by mocking him and you give them another sincere laugh, attracting the attention of the boys, not used to seeing you so carefree. Sure, you like joking with them, but you rarely laugh so openly, that’s why they are so shocked.
"C’mon Oikawa, we need to tidy up the gym." You tell him with a smile and this time you offer him your hand. He looks at it hesitantly and you raise your eyes giggling, when the captain decides to squeeze it and you get up together.
That being said, you start giving orders and you all get together to clean the court and remove the net that at the beginning of the training you and Iwaizumi had put on, oblivious to what the others three had in mind. Although you haven't used the gym for training, you still keep everything in order, then you make the game disappear in your school bag, deciding to giving it to Oikawa once you’re out of school. When you're done, you go to the lockers and change and finally wait for the boys out of school, pulling out the phone and answering a few messages.
"Y/N-chan, are you still here?" You hear Oikawa calling you by the typical nickname he gave you, you put your phone away and instead grab the game from the bag.
"I wanted to give it to you back so that you can put it back wherever you, Hanamaki and Matsukawa found it." You tell him with a smile that he returns.
"We should play twister more often if you're in such a good mood, Y/N-chan."
"Am I always that serious?" you ask him, curious to know what does he think about you, and seeing him slightly embarrassed you can't avoid giggling.
"A little. It almost feels like you never have fun." In response, you burst out laughing. It doesn't bother you that they have this idea of you, even though you know it's still not correct: in fact, you hang out almost every Saturday with your friends to have fun.
"On Friday night we from third year always organise an evening board games at Iwaizumi's house, why don't you join us? Since you are a third year too." He asks you out of the blue and you think about it for a moment, then looking at him with another sincere smile you nod.
“I’d love to."
haikyuu!! mother mother headcanons
my personal headcanons for which haikyuu characters listen to mother mother! (written as if they were teenagers in 2020)
Karasuno:
Tsukishima - DEFINITELY listens on a regular basis on his cool kid headphones while he’s walking home from school. tries really hard to hide how much he relates to Try to Change
Yamaguchi - listens even more than Tsukki. Tsukki was the one who introduced them to him years ago but now he knows their entire discography by heart. really vibes to Body, wonder why
Hinata - listened to them once because he asked what Yamaguchi was listening to and now he’s just slightly more worried about his friend’s mental health
Kageyama - has never heard A Song ever in his life
Yachi - 100% listens to them are you kidding me. this anxious lil lesbian? the first time she heard the first verse of Dread in My Heart she had a full identity crisis
Nishinoya - if he did he would literally just listen to Hayloft on repeat because he’s the physical embodiment of that instrumental energy
Tanaka - likes some of their rock songs but noT AT 11:00 AT NIGHT SAEKO-
Ennoshita - listens to their self-deprecating stuff more than he probably should. really likes Body of Years
Kiyoko - basically just listens to Love and Truth on repeat
Asahi - absolutely falls into the anxiety category of the fanbase along with Yachi and Yamaguchi. also loves Dread in My Heart and has a whole moment when he hears Yachi listening to it during practice one day. then the two of them and Yamaguchi start bonding over it and it’s cute
Sugawara - yes. you cannot convince me this man doesn’t walk to practice belting out a random song from O My Heart just to annoy Daichi
Daichi - has heard them constantly beCAUSE SUGA WON’T STOP SINGING ARMS TONITE FFS SUGA IT’S THE THIRD TIME TODAY-
Aoba Johsai:
Oikawa - no. for aesthetic reasons this man listens to mainstream pop and mainstream pop only
Iwaizumi - hears the first two lines of Verbatim for a full month every time Makki and Mattsun change and is THIS CLOSE to committing a homicide
Hanamaki - sings Verbatim whenever Iwaizumi’s around and only when Iwaizumi’s around because no one will ever believe that this quiet third-year just starts proudly screaming I HWEAR HWOMEN’S.... UNDERHWEAR whenever he changes into uniform
Mattsukawa - had literally never heard of mother mother before Makki suddenly started singing Verbatim in the changing room. he immediately caught on and joined in without skipping a beat and now they’re just trying to see how far they can push Iwa before he breaks
Kyoutani - yes absolutely. he relates to Wrecking Ball on a spiritual level but his secret favorite is It’s Alright
Yahaba - knows their entire discography. Kyoutani is shocked when he plays Burning Pile out loud and Yahaba starts singing along lyric for lyric. if he didn’t have a crush on him before he does now
Kunimi - definitely a diehard fan. you can’t ask him to pick an album but the weirder the song the better
Kindaichi - mother mother? isn’t that that weird band Kunimi listens to??
Nekoma:
Kuroo - listened to them back in his punk phase in middle school but not so much now. still won’t let Kenma forget that he Liked Them Before They Were Cool
Yaku - swears by No Culture. constantly argues with Kuroo over who listened to them first
Kai - doesn’t actively listen to them but likes what his friends have played for him. you could probably literally play banging pots and pans for this man and if you told him it was your favorite music he would smile and find something to compliment. he’d mean it too
Kenma - still listens to them occasionally because Kuroo introduced him years back. really likes the song Touch Up because he enjoys its critique of superficiality and manufactured identity and Kuroo if you don’t stop talking about how you were already listening to them months before I was I stg-
Yamamoto - loves Get Up with his whole heart. it’s real high on his workout playlist
Fukunaga - has heard them, but he’s more a Lemon Demon type of gremlin
Shibayama - heard Kuroo and Yaku arguing about them one day and listened out of curiosity. now he has a gender crisis to go with his anxiety
Inouka - probably only listens to the Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack. he and Hinata do bond over how they’re starting to worry about their teammates
Lev - Kuroo asked him and his response was ofc I listen to my mother. Kuroo fell out laughing and Yaku immediately glared at Lev because he KNOWS that’s not true
Shiratorizawa:
Tendou - ofc this man listens to mother mother he’s probably been to a live concert too. when he’s not singing his own original compositions he’s singing something from Touch Up. Tendou please stop singing Neighbor you’re scaring Goshiki
Ushijima - yes he’s heard them but he has no idea they’re an actual band. he thinks Tendou is the lead singer
Shirabu - loves their whole discography but the edgier the better. his music must match him in sheer spite
Goshiki - why does Tendou keep saying he can see him through his blinds?? he lives in an apartment complex and his only neighbor is a sweet old lady???
Dateko:
Futakuchi - absolutely vibes to The Sticks and Eureka
Aone - Futakuchi showed them to him one day and he 100% approved. now they listen to them together after practice and Futakuchi screams the lyrics while Aone just sits there and looks Enthused
Koganegawa - doesn’t know why his captain is screaming but butts into their vibing sessions sometimes cause he likes to be included. what’s an Oleander
Bonus/Extra:
Akaashi - definitely knows the lyrics to the MOST concerning songs. Bokuto overheard him quietly singing the first verse to Oh Ana and he had to spend the next half-hour telling him no Bokuto-san I’m not depressed, I’m perfectly fine, it’s just a song
Kita - loves everything ESPECIALLY the song O My Heart. he listens to them constantly while he’s doing his chores. one day his headphones come unplugged while he’s listening to Little Pistol and everyone is Absolutely Terrified especially Atsumu and Ginjima
Saeko - puts everyone else’s love of mother mother to shame. she lives this aesthetic. knew them before they were cool, knows their discography by heart, has or has had a crush on every band member. can and WILL scream the chorus of Sleep Awake at you whether you like it or not.
Iwaizumi, the Cat Whisperer
Summary:
Tooru slams the cat carrier down on the checkout counter followed by his cracked volleyball trophy. Ming meows loudly, annoyed, and sticks one paw out of the bars to swipe at him. The cashier, the same spiky-haired guy that helped him pick out cat food on Thursday, eyes Tooru like he’s gone insane.
“How can I help y-“ “I think my cat is defective.”
(In which Oikawa recruits Iwaizumi, a Petsmart worker, to help him with his problems.)
Aoba Johsai’s volleyball team is barely ten minutes into their evening practice when the usual whispers start.
Outside of the gym, a group of girls are huddled around in a circle, sneaking looks and cooing loudly at each other. The thudding of volleyballs hitting the floor serves as a backdrop to their excited voices.
“Oh my gosh, he’s so cute!” One girl squeals, her voice happy.
“What I wouldn’t give to have him come home with me,” Another girl says with a wink at her friends.
“Tell me about it! I don’t want to think what my dad would say about him though.”
“Adorable~ So adorable!”
The words are familiar to Tooru. He’s long since gotten used to his fan club’s praises - happy smiles and blushes that adorn their faces when he acknowledges them during practice. The girls have made it their priority to attend Seijoh’s volleyball practices, the most loyal of his fans sitting in the stands during every single one, cheering loudly whenever Tooru scores against a teammate in a practice game.
Tooru is used to their excitement as they watch him play, yes.
But what he’s not used to is their attention being directed at something other than him: namely, a grungy-looking stray cat that has been interrupting his volleyball practices for a straight week now. Currently, the thing is sitting outside the gym's main door, causing a commotion as the girls lavish it with attention.
The ugly little monster is purring loudly, loud enough that Tooru can hear it on the sidelines as he takes a swig from his water bottle. He huffs at the display, knowing he probably looks ridiculous but also aware that he can’t push away his thoughts of jealousy and betrayal.
A girl coos as the cat scratches at her leg, meowing loudly like it wants to be held. She giggles and picks the thing up, much to the other girls’ envy. They all crowd around her, holding out arms so they can hold him next. Over their shoulders, Tooru can see the cat staring straight at him. He narrows his eyes, trying to send a telepathic message of back off. This is my turf. The cat just blinks lazily at him, completely unconcerned with the warning.
“What’s got you so worked up?” Makki asks as he plops down next to Tooru, spreading himself out on the bench.
Tooru doesn’t respond, continuing to narrow his eyes at the rival cat who still hasn’t broken eye contact. If he didn’t know any better (and he doesn’t), he’d say the stray looks smug.
“Earth to Oikawa? Anyone there?” His friend waves a hand in front of Tooru’s face and finally Tooru looks away from the cat, eyes focusing in on Makki’s trademark smirk.
“I hate cats,” Tooru says, taking one last swig of water and making his way back to the court. He can practically feel the eye roll behind him.
But it’s true; Tooru has never really understood the appeal of cats. They’re rude, stink up the house with their litter boxes, and spend most of the day sitting like useless bricks, napping by the window.
Once, when he was about six, he had tried to pet his friend’s siamese cat. He had reached out with a tentative finger, merely wanting to scratch it behind the ear but the demon had lunged toward him, claws and teeth bared. The cat had only been able to reach for Tooru once before being pulled away, but Tooru had been left with a light pink scar on his cheek that didn’t fade until weeks later.
Since then, he’s sworn up and down that he’d never approach a cat again.
But the girls must not share that sentiment, because day-after-day, without fail, they go the the stray, bringing him food and blankets and water bottles to pour into fancy cat bowls. And day-after-day that cat keeps purring and offering love and affection along with those infuriating stares at Tooru.
The girls love that damn cat so much that’s it’s becoming a serious problem for Tooru. His fans have even started ignoring his volleyball practices to go hang out with the abomination, deciding that a cat is more important than him. More important than Oikawa Tooru. It’s impossible for him to wrap his mind around.
At his coach’s shout, Tooru gets back to practice but anyone can tell he isn’t fully present. His mind is busy, occupied by cats.
---
An hour later, as he bumps up a particularly perfect set to Kindaichi, Tooru realizes something. There is only one way to beat this cat, only one way to come out on top.
He has to adopt it. There is no other way.
Because if he doesn’t - if he leaves the stray to its own devices - the girls will begin to forget him. They’ll start skipping out on practices, stop giving him the attention he so rightly deserves for his volleyball skills. He’ll fade into obscurity, unable to land a volleyball scholarship because no one will be interested anymore, no one will care. He’ll end up with a boring office job and a wife he hates in a house that’s too small. Tooru will become inconsequential.
That’s not going to happen, not if Tooru has any say in it.
And thus, Tooru does what must be done - he sprints out of the gym the moment that their coach dismiss the team, waving off Makki and Mattsun’s curious glances. Less than ten minutes later, he’s walking into a brightly-lit Petsmart, grabbing a cart and passing through the automatic doors.
He looks around the store, not quite sure where to begin shopping for cat supplies. The place is completely foreign territory.
Scanning the brightly lit aisles, he sees colorful fish swimming around in crowded tanks and birds squawking at each other, arguing in loud voices. There is a dog section filled with food and toys.
Finally he lands in a section labeled, Cats, written in block letters on a huge sign. Next to the word hangs a picture of a striped yellow cat playing happily with a red ball of yarn.
“Okay,” Tooru hums, scanning the aisles. “Where to start?”
---
Ten minutes later, Tooru’s cart is filled to the brim. He hadn’t been sure what to get exactly, so he figured the safest bet would be to get one of everything.
He found a large litter-box, enclosed like a small cave (because he sure-as-hell is not going to put up with the stray stinking up his bedroom), a heavy carton of litter that had taken Tooru an embarrassingly long amount of time to pick up, as well as some other things. The food bowls are his favorite find: two turquoise metal dishes with white fish bones imprinted along the side.
The toys are nice too. He was surprised to see the sheer variety - he’d always assumed cats were too lazy to play or do anything but sleep. A long wooden stick with a feather pokes out from amongst all the others. There is only one thing stumping him: cat food.
Dozens of brands, each with their own specific “flavors” and “specialties” line up and down the food section. Tooru isn’t sure if he should go with the one for indoor cats, or the real-meat based one, or even the natural-organic branded one. Does it even matter which one he gets? It’s just cat food. The stray should be lucky it's getting any food at all.
But then again, he doesn’t want to make it sick.
In one arm he picks up a light blue bag. It has a sweet-looking striped gray cat on the front and is labeled “Indoor formula” so it seems like a safe bet. But then again, the organic one looks nice.
He’s about to just throw both into his cart and be done with it when a deep voice rings out on his left side.
“Do you need any help?”
Tooru jumps a little, surprised, before turning to look at the owner of the voice.
It is a worker - probably about Tooru’s age - wearing an employee vest in the most hideous blue color that Tooru has ever seen. Despite that, he’s nice-looking, with spiky black hair and a mouth turned down in a slight grimace.
“Yes actually,” Tooru says after a pause that is only a second too long. He puts on his sweetest voice, the one that Makki likes to roll his eyes at. “I need a second opinion.”
The guy grunts. Tooru takes it as an ‘okay.’
“Let’s say I’m adopting a scrawny stray. Would this” he holds up the blue bag in his right arm, “or that one,” he points towards the organic bag, “be better for it?”
The guy’s eyes flicker between the two before meeting Tooru’s gaze again.
“How old is the cat?”
Tooru shrugs, not entirely sure. He puts the indoor bag back on a random open spot on a shelf. The guy frowns but doesn’t say anything.
“Probably about this big,” Tooru holds his hands about a foot apart.
The guy nods, lips pursed thoughtfully. “You can probably just get the normal-“
“Wait!” Tooru says loudly, noticing but not caring about the annoyed expression that fall on the worker’s face at Tooru’s interruption. “I actually think it might be a few months old.”
He vaguely remembers seeing the cat hanging around before, back at the beginning of the school year. He never paid the creature any mind, but he is at least fifty percent sure about that at least.
“It sounds like your cat might actually be a kitten. You’ll want some of this food,” he says as he leans slightly in front of Tooru so that he can grab one to his right. Tooru takes an automatic step back to make room.
“Thank you,” Tooru says, genuinely, as the guy pulls back, setting the bag in Tooru’s cart. He takes a second glance at the guy. Raking his eyes over his toned form, appraising. Not bad.
"I'm Tooru by the way," Tooru says, injecting his voice with the syrupy sweet quality that draws people to him like flies. He expects the guy to react positively, maybe swoon or blush a little. That’s the normal response to Tooru’s flirting, and Tooru has come to expect it.
Instead the guy doesn’t react at all. He just begins walking toward the checkout counter. "I can check you out over here."
Tooru blinks, surprised. Odd. Tooru tries again, assuming the guy is just shy and needs extra attention.
"Oh, can you now?" He adds extra sweetness to his voice and even winks at the worker, just to make sure his point hits home.
"Yes. But if you keep hitting on me, I'll get my manager to help you instead."
Tooru blinks again, three times before the words finally sink in. Then he's blushing, mortified, and just nods and follows the guy to the checkout corner.
Wordlessly, the guy rings up his items. Five minutes later...
“One hundred and fifty dollars?” Tooru squeaks, voice unbelieving. “For cat supplies?”
The guy shrugs lazily, face bored and gaze directed behind Tooru’s head. “You bought a lot of stuff.”
Tooru swears under his breath, cursing the ugly cat, as he takes out his wallet and rifles through for his allowance - all of it.
The cat had better appreciate his great sacrifice.
---
The next day, Tooru springs the news on his fanclub just as they’re gathering to watch this evening’s volleyball practice.
"Hello girls~" he trills happily, “how are all of you doing today?”
There is a flurry of movement, the girls are taken off guard. Tooru usually doesn’t talk to them before practice, preferring to keep his focus on volleyball for as long as he can. They are happy for his presence though, their smiles make that clear.
The girls all start answering at once, and Tooru can only pick out a few of the responses.
“We’re good, Tooru!” “Thanks for asking!” “I’ve had a great day!”
Tooru smiles back at them and a few giggle.
“I’m glad you all are doing well. I’m feeling quite the same and I have some big news~ Can anyone guess what it is?”
The fanclub titters, none wanting to be the first to speak out.
“Have you,” one of the bolder girls, Asui, starts, “finally agreed to start modeling, Oikawa-san? We all know you got that offer a while back!”
Tooru laughs, shaking his head. “No that’s not it, dear Asui-chan.” The girl’s face lights up at her name and she steps back, nodding with a smile.
“Anyone else have an idea?”
“No, Oikawa-San,” a chorus rings out. “Please tell us!”
“I,” Tooru claps, pausing for dramatic effect. “I am going to adopt the stray that lives outside of the gym!”
There is a brief pause in which the girls absorb this new information, then chaos practically erupts. The gym fills with loud shrieks of joy, and Tooru catches his coach looking on, annoyed.
“That is so great, Oikawa-San!”
“You are the most generous person, Oikawa!”
“The cat will be so happy to live with you!”
Tooru smiles, his voice carrying over the crowd. “Thank you girls, I am excited too. There is one problem though, I don’t have a name for him.”
“Anyone have any suggestions?”
The girls fall over themselves, trying to shout out cute names for the cat. “How about Noraneko?” One asks. Tooru purses his lips, contemplating. It literally translates to “stray cat”. A little on the nose, but it’s not terrible. He writes it down on a paper list, planning to pick one of the names that his fanclub offers.
A few other names are tossed around but none seem right to Tooru. None stick.
---
Later, when Tooru, Makki and Mattsun are all scarfing down their lunch under a cherry blossom tree, Mattsun remembers the list. He leans over Makki to ask his question. Makki makes a sound of protest deep in his throat, but his mouth is so full of food that it can’t form words. His protesting just comes out as a grumble.
“Did you pick a name yet?” Matssun asks.
Tooru shakes his head, eyes focusing on the last rice grain in his bento box. It falls from his chopsticks. “No. Maybe Noraneko but,” he shrugs, looks up at Mattsun. “It’s so uninspired.”
Makki nudges Tooru with his elbow, cheeks still filled with food. “Ma Mrmhp ma nmeme,” he says, voice unintelligible and flecks of rice falling from his mouth.
Tooru jabs an elbow into Makki’s side. “Eww,” he whines, face twisting into a pout. “Don’t talk with your mouth full, or I’ll make you sit on the other side of Mattsun.”
Makki rolls his eyes and swallows a bit of the rice. His voice is only slightly more intelligible when he says, “why don’t you name him Minikui?”
Minikui? Tooru rolls the name around in his head a coupe times. It literally means ‘ugly,’ and Tooru couldn’t think of a better fit, himself. That cat is one ugly monstrosity. It’s perfect.
“You might just be a genius, Makki. Even if your grades are much lower than mine, there is hope for you yet.”
Tooru is so excited about naming the stray that he graces to ignore the flecks of rice Makki throws at his face.
---
Minikui and Tooru begin their relationship in less-than-ideal circumstances, and Tooru will take most of the blame for that, though the cat isn’t completely innocent either.
Tooru had gone after practice to collect the cat, and his fan club had followed close by his heels. After he had finally wrestled the thing into the carrier (it took about thirty minutes and what seemed like a hundred tries), Tooru had waved goodbye to his friends and fan club, optimism ringing bright in his veins. He was happy this had gone over so well, and though there may have been hiccups (who knew cats could hiss that loudly), he was sure that things would go back to normal. The monster would be locked in Tooru’s room, and the fan club would go back to adoring and supporting him no matter what. And the cat itself was the least of his worries. How hard could it be to take care of one small animal?
It was hard, as it turned out. Very, very hard and frustrating.
It had taken quite some convincing on Tooru’s part to convince his mother to let him keep Minikui. She was surprisingly against the idea, thought he had thought she would like it, but eventually she had caved, only after Tooru promised a million times over that he would take care of the cat all on his own. He would clean the litter box, buy food, and most importantly, pay for all medical bills without any help from his parents.
After all was said and done, she had smiled, patted the purring cat’s head - it was currently exploring Tooru’s room and trying to fit into every small space it could find - and left the two to their own devices.
Tooru had bounced on the bed excitedly the moment the door closed and whipped out his phone.
“Smile Minikui~” he trilled as he snapped a few pictures of the cat, adding them to his instagram with a soft pink filter.
In one, she is peeking out from behind his desk, her tail curled up around the leg and her collar a nice pop of blue against the otherwise neutral background. Another find her looking out the window - very artsy and thoughtful. He adds a few sparkles to that one. And in the last, she is on his bed, Tooru holding the camera near his face to take a selfie with the cat in the background. Under that picture, he titles the post: *Found a new best friend. Sorry, not sorry Makki!*
Within minutes, the likes and comments come flooding in. His fans are obviously overjoyed, and the comments are filled to the brim with hearts and cat emojis and a lot of exclamation points. Somewhere hidden amongst the flood of positive comments is Makki’s own: I hope the cat disfigures you in your sleep. But Tooru pays it no mind, spending the next fifteen minutes liking his fans thoughtful messages.
But after the high from positive attention wears off, Tooru isn’t quite sure what to do next.
He stares at the cat, who is curled up a few feet away, its eyes closed and seemingly sleeping peacefully. It doesn’t look that scary all curled up like that. With a tentative hand, he pats the cat on its head, lightly, just once.
Minikui does nothing, just continues sleeping as though Tooru hadn’t touched her at all. Emboldened by her lack of reaction, Tooru decides to push his luck a little farther. He puts his hand under the cat’s belly, lifts it up and sets it lightly down in his lap. The cat does nothing more than open one eye, checking Tooru out before going back to sleep.
Hmm, he thinks. Maybe this isn't such a bad deal. The cat doesn’t hate him, at least not as much as they though. Maybe this can work, Maybe—
In a flash, Mininkui’s eyes pop open and she chomps down on Tooru’s hand as he yelps. He doesn’t even have the time to blink, let alone snatch his hand away in time.
“Fine, leave,” Tooru holds his hands up above the cat’s head so the thing can get up and walk away. “No one is keeping you hostage.”
In response, Minikui jumps upward, hooking his claws into Tooru’s hand, pulling it down so he can bite into it once again. Tooru pushes the cat off his lap and he falls with a hard thud on the ground, complaining loudly. Tooru looks at his hand; it’s marked with tiny grooves from Minikui’s teeth, curved over his hand in a small arc. He holds the hand in front of its face, shakes it at the cat's uninterested stare.
“Look what you did! Now I’ll have to set with imperfect hands!”
In response, Minikui just eyes Tooru’s hands - looking as though he would like nothing more than to sink his teeth in one more time.
You have no idea what you’ve started, Minikui, Tooru thinks as he snatches his hand away, nursing the injured body part against his chest. This means war.
---
Meow ~ meow ~ meow. The string of cat noises wakes Tooru up like an alarm clock. He lifts his head from the pillow to stare at Minikui. The cat is on his chest, sitting on its haunches and staring intently down at Tooru.
“Hi, ugly,” he says, voice thick with sleep. “Are you hungry?"
Minikui dips his head in what Tooru supposes is a nod, meowing once more.
"Okay, okay," Tooru yawns, "Give me five more minutes and I’ll get your food.” He closes his eyes again, wanting just a few more minutes of sleep.
He feels Minikui move on his chest, walking closer to his head. The cat swipes a couple times at Tooru's hair. Claws get tangled in his bedhead.
“/Minikui/,” Tooru whines, batting at him halfheartedly with one hand. The cat meows again and bats back at him in response. “Five more minutes.”
Tooru turns on his side, bringing the blanket up to his chin and snuggling down further into the bed. Minikui jumps off him and lands with a dull thud on his wood floor. He can hear the cat rummaging around in his room but pays him no mind. Just five more minutes, he thinks somewhat deliriously.
Then, he hears Minikui’s voice from a few feet above him, to the right. “Meow,” and the sound holds the taunting edge that he’s come to fear.
Immediately, Tooru's eyes shoot open an he sits up straight in bed, looking for the reason for that dangerous meow. Sure enough, the demon is on his bookcase, one paw held up behind a volleyball trophy (the participation award he received at the end of elementary school.) Minikui looks disinterestedly at him, grooming a paw while still holding the other up behind the trophy.
“Minikui,” he warns, but it’s too late.
The trophy comes crashing to the floor, and Tooru can hear it splinter. From downstairs comes his mother’s muffled, “Are you okay, Tooru?”
“I’m fine, mom!”
But he's not fine, not at all.
He narrows his eyes at the cat. That’s it. This needs to end. Now.
---
Making a beeline towards the Petsmart checkout counter, Tooru is a man on a mission. Minikui tries every few moments to break free from his restraint, knocking his head against the bars of his carrier but Tooru ignores the cat's struggle.
He slams the cat carrier down on the checkout counter followed by his cracked volleyball trophy. Ming meows loudly, annoyed, and sticks one paw out of the bars to swipe at him. The cashier - the same spiky-haired guy that helped him pick out cat food on Thursday - eyes Tooru like he’s gone insane.
“Can I help y-“
“I think my cat is defective.”
---
Tooru picks the cat up, straining to do so. The stray has almost doubled in size since he first brought him home.
“Look at it.”
“Oi,” Iwaizumi starts, frowning at the cat. “How much are you feeding him?”
“How.. much?”
“Yeah, like a cup a day, a cup and a half? How much does the side of the bag say to give?”
Tooru picks up the cat food bag and sure enough, there is a chart on the side, outlining how much to feed according to their weight.
“You’re,” Tooru pauses, eyes the chart. “You’re not just supposed to feed it whenever it meows?”
Iwaizumi groans and places a finger at his temple, like he’s warding off an impending headache. “We have a lot of work to do, don’t we?”
Tooru shrugs. “Probably,” he says, setting the fat cat down onto the wood paneling.
The cat meows in protest and swats at Tooru’s leg like he’s done something wrong before disappearing under the bed. Tooru looks to Iwaizumi, gesturing toward the cat and back at himself, eyes clearly saying, ‘do you see what I have to deal with here?
Iwaizumi ignores him and takes a few steps forward until he’s in front of the bed. Slowly, he gets down on his knees and lowers his head so that he can see into the shadows.
Tooru probably should warn him about Minikui’s tendency to scratch at anyone’s face if they get too close, but Iwaizumi has been a bit awful to him. Maybe it’s best for him to learn the hard way: through experience, aka getting swiped at by feral claws.
“Minikui,” Iwaizumi calls out in a low voice.
As Iwaizumi busies himself trying to get the cat out from under the bed, Tooru bounces on top it, rolling his eyes. Turning onto his stomach, he lays half off the bed, dangling only inches away from Iwaizumi’s annoyed expression. “It won’t come out, it doesn’t matter how much you call for it. Believe me, I’d know.”
Iwaizumi lifts his head to glare at Tooru but the intimidating effect that he is going for is somewhat ruined by the way his hair is all in his eyes.
“Maybe if you’d talk to him like a living thing, you prick, and not constantly call him ‘it’, Minikui would listen to you,” Iwaizumi pops his head back under the bed so that Tooru’s view is blocked. The man starts making weird clucking noises and calling out Minikui’s name in that same low voice.
The words bubble out of Tooru’s chest as his lips curl up in amusement. “Are you a chicken, Iwa-chan? What is that noise even supposed to do?”
Tooru thinks he hears a growl from under the bed but it’s impossible to know if it comes from Iwaizumi or the cat.
Eventually, Iwaizumi reemerges with the cat in his arms. The monster is purring loudly and cuddling into Iwaizumi’s toned chest like it’s the most comfortable place in the world. Tooru tries not to feel disappointed that there’s not a single scratch marring up Iwaizumi’s handsome face.
“How’d you do that?” Tooru asks accusingly.
Iwaizumi smiles down at the cat. “You just have to be patient,” he scratches behind Minikui’s ears and the purring seems to get even louder. “Cats don’t like being told what to do. You can’t force anything with them.”
“Hmm,” Tooru hums as he watches Iwaizumi sit down beside him on the bed, still scratching behind the cat’s ears. The two look so content, and the way that the sun is shining through Tooru’s bedroom window frames the scene like it’s some sort of painting. He blames the weird flutters in his chest at the strangeness of it all.
“Stop hogging the cat, Iwa-chan. Let me try.”
With a nod, Iwaizumi holds out his arms slowly towards Tooru. The cat stays purring, eyes still closed as it is undisturbed by the movement. But the second Tooru lays a hand on top of its fur, Minikui’s eyes pop open and the cat is jumping out of Iwaizumi’s arms and meowing angrily. ‘Don’t you dare touch me,’ the cat’s eyes seem to say and its tail is puffed up angrily like it’s expecting a fight.
“Right,” Iwaizumi says after a brief pause in which both boys just stare down at the angry cat. It isn’t hissing, but the look in its eyes says that one wrong move and there will be nothing but that ugly sound. “I guess we’ll work on the trust issues first.”
---
“No, you’re petting him all wrong. Do it like this,” Iwaizumi demonstrates. He strokes his hand down the cat’s back, and Minikui purrs happily. But when Tooru tries the same thing, all he gets is an angry lunge towards his hand. Luckily, the claws don’t draw blood.
“No, idiot,” Iwaizumi sighs and shakes his head. “Still wrong.”
Tooru can’t help the way he’s growing frustrated. It’s been almost an hour and there has been little to no progress; the cat still hates Tooru and he hates the thing right back.
“Well then, Iwa-chan,“ Tooru says through clenched teeth. “Why don’t you actually tell me what I’m doing wrong instead of parroting the same word over and over again.”
Iwaizumi ignores his tone and takes Tooru hand with a roll of his eyes, placing it gently on Minikui’s soft fur. “Here,” he says, “I’ll show you.”
Tooru’s eyes widen at the skin contact and the strange feeling of Iwaizumi’s rough skin against his own is enough to melt the agitation away.
With careful movements, Iwaizumi guides Tooru’s hands so that he is petting the cat. At first, Minikui stiffens up and growls threateningly but as Tooru continues petting her, she relaxes ever so slightly.
“There,” Iwaizumi says. “Don’t rub her so roughly and you’re fine.” Then he takes his hand away and by some miracle, the cat stays relaxed. After a minute, he even starts purring. It’s surprisingly adorable.
The three sit in silence until Minikui curls in Tooru’s lap - actually, willingly gets into his lap- and falls asleep. Once that happens, Iwaizumi stands up, brushing off some of the cat hair that had settled on his jeans.
“You two look comfortable. I’ll head out.”
“Wait!” Tooru says loudly and Minikui pops an eye open, growling at him before falling back asleep. “Wait,” he says again in a hushed voice. “Can I get your help again?”
Iwaizumi pauses halfway through slipping on his coat. “I guess,” he says but he doesn’t seem very committed.
“I can bring you something in return. What would you want?”
“Money,” Iwaizumi says rather bluntly, but his face cracks into a small smile at whatever expression Tooru makes at that. The expression disappears as soon as it comes. “It’s fine, you don’t need to pay me.”
Tooru makes a pained face. “Yes I do or I’ll feel guilty.” He taps at his cheek in thought. “How about food or something.”
“Seriously, it’s fine.”
“You’re being purposefully difficult.”
Iwaizumi shrugs, completely unconcerned. “That’s me,” he taps at his phone for a second and then looks back up to Tooru to wave goodbye. “Come by Petsmart next time you need help. I work Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
Then Iwaizumi walks out and Tooru is left with an odd sense of loneliness.
---
The two end up spending much more time than Tooru had thought Iwaizumi would tolerate.
Every day Iwaizumi works, Tooru makes it a priority to keep him company, even on the days where Iwaizumi can’t help him with Minikui. He meets the manager of the Petsmart, an older woman who takes a liking to Tooru immediately. She lets him hang around whenever and even baked him cookies once for his ‘wonderful company’. “Crappy, ass-kissing personality,” Iwaizumi had taken to mumbling under his breath, but Tooru pays it no mind.
Tooru learns that Iwaizumi has endless patience for animals but next to nothing when it comes to Tooru. He sees it when Minikui hisses at Iwaizumi and the boy does nothing but smile patiently and back off to give the cat some space. Or that one time that Tooru was a couple minutes early to Petstmart and he saw Iwaizumi in his natural habitat - on one knee next to a happy dog, laughing as it smeared its nasty drool all over his face.
But the moment Tooru says something a little too flirty or makes an innocent joke at Iwa-chan’s expense, the boy is all anger issues.
“Shut up, Assikawa!” Or, “do you want me to whip this volleyball at your face, Trashykawa?” Or that one special time that Tooru had called him attractive and Iwaizumi’s face changed colors to match the red of a traffic light and he’d pushed a giggling Tooru off his own couch.
Tooru thinks that Iwaizumi is a lot like an animal himself - namely, a hedgehog: prickly on the outside but ultimately harmless.
To be truthful, he doesn’t know much about Iwaizumi, but he wants to know more. That feeling is alien to Tooru and it surprises him. Because, sure, Iwaizumi is hot, but Tooru finds himself wanting to see past that handsome face and learn what’s underneath.
“Hey, Iwa-chan,” he asks one day as he sits on a stack of huge dogs food bags, ones that Iwaizumi needs to stack on the shelves. Tooru may or may not have spent the last fifteen minutes ogling Iwaizumi’s arms as he lifts each one on a shoulder. Who can blame him though, those arms are gorgeous.
“Mhmmpf,” Iwaizumi grunts. It’s his primitive way of saying ‘yes.’ Sort of like a caveman or a gorilla.
“Do you have any pets?”
Iwaizumi doesn’t say anything for a few moments and Tooru is about to retract when he finally answers. “I had a dog but she passed a few months back.”
“Oh,” Tooru blinks. “I’m sorry.”
“Not your fault,” Iwaizumi shrugs off Tooru’s apology. He moves to lift another bag. “She died this summer but it feels like ages ago now.”
“Hmm,” Tooru hums, staring at Iwaizumi as he heaves the bag over his shoulder. The other boy doesn’t /seem/ like he was affected by Tooru’s question, but there is this small crinkle between his brows and he hasn’t looked Tooru in the eyes yet.
“What was her name?”
“Molly.”
“That’s a pretty name,” Tooru comments.
“Yes. My younger sister named her.”
“What kind of dog was she?”
“Golden retriever.”
“What-“ Tooru pauses, worries his lip between his teeth. He doesn’t know if it’s okay to ask but the words come out anyway. “What happened to her?”
Iwaizumi doesn’t pause in his movements. He tosses the bag onto the shelf. The metal shelves vibrate under the additional weight, and then still. Iwaizumi’s back is turned when he answers.
“Hit by a car,” he says matter-of-factly. “It sucks but that’s just what happens sometimes.”
If Tooru didn’t know any better, he’d think that Iwaizumi was unaffected. But because he has been watching the other boy so closely these last few weeks, he can spot the difference from his normal demeanor. Iwaizumi’s shoulders are just the slightest bit higher, muscles pulled taught with tension. His head is slightly down turned, his expression is likely taut, though Tooru can only guess that much because Iwaizumi still has not turned to face him. He’s /sad/, Tooru realizes. Immediately, a rush of guilt washes over him. He shouldn’t have asked the other boy so many questions.
“I’m sorry,” Tooru says, his words soft and gentle. They float between the two, and Tooru hopes that Iwaizumi takes them instead of brushing them off.
For a long moment, Iwaizumi’s shoulders inch minutely higher. The tension builds, and Tooru hopes fervently that he hasn’t made Iwaizumi so upset that he will cry. The seconds pass. Above them, the speakers is playing some sort of happy pop song. Tooru wishes a few things - that the stupid music would stop playing first of all, but he mostly just wishes Iwaizumi would turn around so Tooru would see his face.
Then, with a loud sigh, all the tension rushes out Iwaizumi’s body. His shoulders lower and he turns around to meet Tooru’s eyes. Though Tooru thought he expected it, he is still a bit surprised to see the sadness there.
“Move over,” Iwaizumi commands as he moves to sit next to Tooru on the bags of dog food. Tooru complies readily, scooting over a few inches. The plastic crinkles underneath them, the sound emphasizing their movements.
The new position is close, but not uncomfortably so. Tooru can feel the heat of Iwaizumi’s body, only a few inches away, and he feels a strong urge to move his leg out just enough that he can feel that warmth up close.
“Do you want to see a picture of her?” Iwaizumi asks, pulling out his phone from his back pocket.
Tooru nods. He waits patiently for Iwaizumi to search through his photos until he finds a suitable one of Molly.
He catches brief glimpses of Iwaizumi’s life through the scrolling photos. He sees one of Iwaizumi with his sister, their faces close and happy - a setting sun behind them. There is one of Iwaizumi’s...
Four times Iwaizumi said I love you, and one time Oikawa beat him to it.
Iwaizumi is a lot of things. Gruff, tough, strong, brave, but all of that pales in the matter of embarrassing his best friend and he's learned a special trick. If saying 'I love you' makes Oikawa even more of a whiny brat, then that's just what Iwaizumi will do. A series of one-shots following Iwaizumi from confession through his and Oikawa's life together.
It's absolute, complete fluff nothing else.
Hajime glanced down at the purple plush Tooru had shoved into his arms.
“What is this?” He raised an eyebrow up at his best friend, carefully turning the creature around. It was soft but there were spines going down it’s back and it’s smile kind of looked like Kageyama’s.
“It’s Gengar!” Tooru chirped, grinning wildly for some reason. Hajime wondered if the Pokemon was supposed to be something special, he was never a big fan of Pokemon and didn’t really know what a Gengar was. “It’s for you! It’s a ghost type and loves to sneak up and bully people, just like Iwa-chan.”
Hajime grabbed it and chucked it at Tooru’s head, catching it when it bounced off as his best friend squawked and fixed his hair immediately. Tooru scowled at him and crossed his arms angrily at him.
“What?”
“You’re such a shit, Oikawa. Why do I want a Pokemon just for you to make fun of me? It’s stupid, and it’s grin creeps me out-”
“You’re right,” Tooru cut him off, turning away before Hajime could see his eyes and see if he was actually upset. “I should have gotten you Machamp, because he’s a big muscled idiot like you, no brains at all. You would have gotten along with him perfectly.”
“Oikawa-” He called after him when Tooru stormed out, heading towards the ice cream cart across the street. He rolled his eyes with a sigh, gently rolling the purple creature over to look it in the eyes. Tooru had already bought it so he couldn’t exactly put it back, but he didn’t really care for ghosts whether creatures or real. He wasn’t sure if Tooru was actually upset, or just trying to trick him into apologizing for insulting Pokemon but either way a few minutes to calm down would be best.
“Oh hey, there you are.” Matsukawa’s voice came from behind him and he turned to see him holding one of the expensive life size pokemons. He held it up proudly. “I’m going to hit Hanamaki with this and see if I can knock him down in one blow.”
“What the fuck is that?”
“Oh! It’s a Goomy, it was the first Pokemon Hanamaki ever caught when I lent him my game, y’know, when I got him addicted.” Matsukawa frowned for a second and Hajime couldn’t blame him, Hanamaki had gotten way into the game for a few months and almost had to be dragged to practice because he wanted to catch all the Pokemon on Matsukawa’s game. “But I see you have a Gengar, is it for Oikawa?”
“Huh? Why would it be for him?” Hajime said, then frowned at his own protectiveness of the plushy, he was already attached to the damn thing. Stupid thing.
“Gengar is Oikawa’s favorite Pokemon.”
“That’s an understatement,” Hanamaki’s voice cut in as he walked up, a large green dinosaur in his hand. He turned to Matsukawa and gasped, eyes wide. “They said they sold out of him though.”
“I pre-ordered him, just for you.” Matsukawa said, eyes soft and then smacked his best friend with the purple and pink plush. Hanamaki didn’t fall but he did burst into laughter, holding out the green dinosaur pokemon for Matsukawa.
“Funny, I pre-ordered him for you too.” Hanamaki said and Matsukawa cooed, quickly switching the two and squeezing the dinosaur. Hanamaki glanced over at Hajime’s confused expression. “Meganium, it’s the final evolution of Chikorita, the first Pokemon Matsukawa ever got. His game got corrupted so he wasn’t able to transfer her to the newest game where you can play with her, but now you can play with her all the time.”
“Hanamaki, marry me.” Matsukawa said into the plush’s neck and Hanamaki laughed, cheeks red.
“I intend to, but after college.” He teased then turned to Hajime before Matsukawa could say anything about that. “So, is that for Oikawa then?”
“Uh… No, he gave it to me… Why does he like the little gremlin? Cuz it looks like Kageyama?” He frowned down at the purple monster and tried not to feel like he was hurting it’s feelings.
“I mean, maybe. But Oikawa told me that in the old games the Pokedex, the tool that tells you about the Pokemon, it said that Gengar plays tricks because it’s lonely and wants someone to be it’s friend forever. Apparently he felt so bad he decided that he was going to be it’s best friend forever and won’t trade them for anything. I even offered to give him a legendary in return for just one of his Gengar’s and he nearly had a heart attack at the idea of trading them.” Hanamaki explained and Hajime blinked, something warm blossoming in his chest.
He hadn’t thought about it in years, long since forgotten since Oikawa had latched onto his side. How many times as a kid had he purposely harassed Tooru to try and get him to pay attention to him? How many times had he pranked him hoping Tooru would come out of his house and they could play together? How many times had Tooru jumped in front of him to yell at the older kids when Hajime’s pranks had gone wrong and swear he wasn’t going to leave him? When had they switched places?
He smiled at the purple creature, an idea forming. He did promise his mom he would confess before they graduated highschool, and this would get Tooru to forgive him for insulting his favorite Pokemon, it was perfect. He turned to Matsukawa and Hanamaki, rolling his eyes when they gasped at his smile.
“Can you two nerds help me with something?”
“Oikawa!” The tall brunette glanced over at him, two cones held in his hand as he tilted his head at Hajime. So not too upset, and any left over hurt was immediately washed away as he looked at Hajime’s chest.
“Is that a baby carrier?” Tooru squealed with laughter at the sight of Gengar carefully tucked into the baby carrier and held to Hajime’s chest. He didn’t even notice Hajime’s hands behind his back.
“I didn’t want to drop him!” Hajime insisted, frowning down at the little guy. He was way too attached to the little bastard already and he blamed Oikawa. “Come on, shit head, quit holding up the line.”
“Oh right, sorry!” He smiled at the person behind him and skipped ahead with both of their ice creams. “Where’s Makki and Mattsun?”
“I told them we’d meet them at the outside cafe around the corner, I don’t think anyone is going to let them come inside with their child sized toys.” Hajime said, fondly remembering the two walking down the street together and beating each other up with their Pokemon.
“I mean, probably not… I suppose I should forgive you for being mean to Gengar… after all… You are taking very good care of your new child.” Tooru said, glancing back and snickering again. This time his eyes did catch on Hajime’s arms being held behind his back. “What are you hiding Iwa-chan?”
“Oh nothing… Just a gift for someone.” The effect was instantaneous, Tooru lit up like a christmas tree, bouncing on his heels.
“Is it for me?”
“Who knows?” Hajime hummed, turning so Tooru couldn’t peer around and look. Tooru huffed, eyes narrowed and he jumped forward trying to move faster than Hajime and look behind his hands.
“You know! You bully! Let me see my gift.”
“Who says it’s for you? Maybe it’s for Kindaichi. His birthday is coming up.”
“You already bought him a new set of volleyball shoes and tickets for all you can eat Barbecue.” Tooru said, and Hajime paused mouth hanging open slightly.
“How’d you know?”
“Because I know you Iwa-chan, I know everything about you.” Tooru said proudly, head held up haughtily. He smirked down at Hajime who rolled his eyes. He didn’t know everything, but he would in a minute.
Suddenly, doubt formed in Hajime’s stomach. Sure, Tooru wouldn’t throw him to the side and never talk to him again but they were going to different colleges and maybe Tooru didn’t feel the same. Or didn’t feel like putting his career in danger just to…
“Here.” Hajime said before the anxiety could build too much. He held out the silver Pokemon and watched Tooru nearly drop the ice cream.
“Holy shit… Iwaizumi Hajime, do you even know what you’re giving me? Shiny Eevee is a limited edition… She’s so expensive, like… Holy shit Iwa-chan.” Tooru’s eyes were alight, wide and gentle like he was afraid he would blink and it would all be a dream. Then they moved to meet Hajime’s and Hajime couldn’t help but think of how beautiful they were. How beautiful Tooru was always. With his dumb antics and dumb hair and pretty face and his brain that somehow managed to outsmart everyone and yet insisted on aliens. Hajime loved it.
“I know, Hanamaki nearly cried when he saw me go to the register. I think my wallet really did cry.”
“Then why-”
“Because it’s you.” He held out the Pokemon again, taking the cones from Tooru as he gathered up the large plush. “Eevee can evolve into almost any type right? Well, you can be anything you want, anything in the world. You’re special and you deserve a Pokemon as special as you are.”
“Hajime.” Tooru murmured and Hajime’s heart skipped a beat. He angrily told it to shut up, they hadn’t even confessed yet. “Oh she has a collar, did you buy her a special collar Iwa-chan?” He tilted his head as he moved to look at the metal piece.
I love you.
Tooru’s mouth fell open and he gaped at it for a second and Hajime had a flash of pride for finally managing to surprise his captain. He glanced up at Hajime and then back at the Pokemon and Hajime’s heart stuttered at the idea that he would refuse it, or worse, laugh it off.
“I love you.” Hajime said, wishing he wasn’t holding ice-cream so he could hide behind his hands, or even behind the Gengar at this point. “I mean, who doesn’t. But really… I… I know you get a lot of confessions and I didn’t mean to confess today, I meant to do the button thing but then I was thinking about Matsukawa telling Hanamaki to marry him because of the dinosaur-”
“Wait Mattsun said what?” Tooru interrupted, confusion clouding his features and Hajime waved him off.
“I’ll explain in a minute, anyways I realized you’re going to get a lot of confessions as soon as we graduate or even in college and you’re going to fall in love with someone unless you’re dating someone. And I can’t really compete with Daichi-”
“I can’t believe you still think I’m trying to date Daichi that was clearly a ruse to piss off Tobio-chan.”
“Wait what-”
“Duh, I told him I was going to be his new dad and he was going to have to call me Kindaichi and Kunimi big brother, I thought he was going to have a heart attack.”
“Stop bullying him Tooru- Ugh I am trying to confess here! This is terrifying.”
“Sorry, sorry, keep going Hajime. I’ll say yes when you’re done.” Tooru said, settling on his heels, head nestled on the top of the Eevee.
“Thank you- Wait.” He glared at him, watching his best friends lips twitch up despite him doing his best not to smile. “I hate you, I take it back, I take it all back, die alone.” He spun and immediately arms wrapped around his waist and a head was burrowing into his shoulder.
“No~ Keep going Iwa-chan, it’s so sweet and you’re so sweet and cute.” Hajime glared and kept walking, ignoring Tooru’s complaints and attempts to hold him back. He managed to break free after a second, turning the corner and handing the two ice creams to Hanamaki and Matsukawa. Tooru came around a second later, pouting and eyes creased in the way that told Hajime he thought he really messed up.
Hajime sighed and rolled his eyes, this was the man he fell in love with ages ago. He reached up and squished his cheeks and kissed him lightly.
“I’m completely in love with you.” Hajime said, and turned, plopping into the seat and grabbing the ice-creams back from the two stricken volleyball players. He heard the squeal before Tooru was slipping into the chair next to him and pressing up as close as he could, kissing his cheek.
“I love you too Hajime, and I’m going to date you forever so you better be prepared.” He declared and stole a cone before Hajime could lick it, smiling at Matsukawa and Hanamaki’s looks. “So what’s this about marriage you two?”
Hajime rolled his eyes, watching his best friends flush and stutter out excuses. He lifted an arm and wrapped it around Tooru, feeling him lean into his side like he was meant to be there. He smiled softly and pressed his lips into Tooru’s hair to hide it. All this because of a stupid purple monster.
Two
Working in the library really wasn’t how Hajime intended to spend his afternoons after school. Sure, it was fun being able to help the librarian and the students find materials and he loved being surrounded by books. However, it also meant he had to deal with every single idiot who spilt beer, marijuana, and other unspeakable liquids in his books. He didn’t think he could ever be a librarian, which was good because he was studying Aerospace engineering, but the librarian in charge loved him after he threatened a senior who returned a beer covered textbook and they came back the next day with a brand new copy for a ‘donation’.
He closed his own textbook as a girl came towards the desk, a handful of books clutched in her hands. She flushed terribly when he held his hands out to take them and he couldn’t help but be reminded of all the times girls would try to confess to Tooru in school only to squeak and run away. Of course, he’d gotten his own admirers but most of them had been fellow athletes and had quickly realized neither of them had time if they wanted to be the best at their sport.
“H-Hi.” She seemed so small that Hajime flashed back to the manager of Karasuno and wondered if she had gotten lost. Except she had been blonde hadn’t she? She must have been, Matsukawa had teased Yahaba about having a thing for blondes.
“Hi, checking them out?”
“What- no- I mean yes, checking the books out.” She said when he held up the books curiously at her denial. “I… I’m studying Psychology and I have a report due.”
“Oh? Huh, about what?”
“About how society affects how psychologists report their findings.” She said, relaxing as they got to a topic she was more comfortable on. Now that they were talking, she seemed really familiar and he wracked his brain for her name.
“You might want to grab this book too then, it covers a lot of different values at the same time as Freud started his psychoanalyzing.” He said, grabbing a book from the returned pile. “He might have been a bit of a cocaine addict, but his work did change how psychology was used.”
She paused and glanced at him as she flipped the book over. “You know a bit about psychology?”
“One of my best friends wanted to be a Psychologist for a while, before he realized that meant dealing with people and decided to become a baker instead.”
“Those are completely different things.” She laughed, grinning at him and it hit him where he knew her.
“Did you go to Johzenji?” He asked and her face blossomed pink again.
“How did you…”
“You were the manager right?”
“Yeah, Hana Misaki… I know Terushima caused a lot of trouble for you but-” He waved it off.
“Is that why you were nervous? I won’t blame you for Terushima if you don’t blame me for Oikawa getting into a fight with him.” He snorted, pressing down a grin when she groaned at the memory. Terushima had decided to flirt with Oikawa’s so called protege and Yahaba had flirted back, causing Oikawa to go into unnecessary protective mode. He called it ‘Doing his job as a Captain’ the team called it ‘Mom mode’.
“Honestly I think Terushima did it just to fight with Oikawa, I am so sorry about that-”
“Really, really, it’s fine, I think Oikawa enjoyed being able to fight him too, normally Yahaba throws the first punch so Oikawa doesn’t get half a chance.”
“Yahaba always tries to fight people bigger than him and I have to protect him!” Tooru’s voice was half shrill, lips twisted in a pout as Hajime turned to look at the volleyball player. He was always a bit wild when people called him out on his overprotective behavior. “I remember you punching that junior last week for flirting with Kunimi.”
“I remember you shutting the fuck up.” Hajime flushed, angrily scanning the books out and handing them to Hana as she laughed softly. Tooru’s gaze landed on her and twisted from jealous to curious in a few seconds, before she could even notice.
“Hana Misaki? From Johzenji?” He asked, smiling his normal fake smile when she nodded, eyes wide with surprise. Her fingers tugged at the books nervously as if she could sense the possessive feelings roiling under the surface of Tooru’s mask.
“Yes, hello Oikawa.” She tried to give him a smile, glancing at Hajime as he groaned and leaned over the counter to punch Tooru’s shoulder gently.
“We were talking about Psychology, she has a report due.”
“Oh! You mean like Makki was doing?” Tooru brightened immediately, an almost real smile on his lips.
“Exactly, asshole. So quit being a jealous turd.”
“I am not a jealous turd, that would involve anyone being able to take you away from me. And I’m adorable.”
“Yes. You are.” Hajime said simply, a growing smirk on his face as Tooru immediately turned red and started to bluster and turned away, stomping away to a table. He laughed and turned to Hana. “Works every time.”
“Clearly. So you two finally got together?”
“If I had a hundred yen for every time someone said that to me,” He shook his head, eyes settling on Tooru and softening immensely as the volleyball player pulled out his books and notes. Tooru glanced over and stuck out his tongue, childish despite his accomplishments and Hajime knew he’d do anything to keep him that way. To keep him away from the way the world weakened and darkened the souls in it, he’d do anything.
“Yeah, we’re together.” He finally finished, glancing up at Hana’s knowing look and trying not to get embarrassed.
“I’m glad… and a little jealous… Ah you probably don’t want to hear it.”
“Go ahead, I’m curious. Besides, no one else is here and my replacement doesn’t come in for another thirty minutes.”
“Well.. I mean… Just the way he looks at you, he’s looked at you for as long as I can remember seeing you on court. It’s like… you’re his rock and you look at him like he’s your sky. I’ve never had anyone look at me like that… It’s dumb because I mean, I’m only a first year in college, I haven’t even lived that long. But… You two… It’s like someone took a soul and split you in two. You’re your own people, but you fit together perfectly and it’s… just… nice to know that couples like you exist. Meanwhile I’m going to die alone because Terushima has scared off every woman this side of Japan.” Her voice flattened at the end, and she looked tired but also mildly amused as she thought back to her Kohai. Hajime laughed and shook his head.
“Not every woman, uh…” He dug around for a pen and paper, scribbling a number down. “Kiyoko Shimizu, give her a text. Tell her I gave you her number and she’ll introduce you to a few others. There’s a group of us who go out to the bars on the weekend and crash together at my place afterwards, if nothing else you can get a crap ton of free drinks out of it.”
She took it hesitantly and glanced at Tooru who was scribbling at something angrily and broke his pencil, staring at it like it betrayed him.
“He lets you bring a bunch of girls over?”
“It’s amazing how nice he is once he hears the word lesbian.” Hajime pressed his lips together to stop a laugh from escaping. “Ask Kiyoko, she’s put him in his place a few times. She could probably get even Ushijima to bow to her power, she’s terrifying.”
“Sounds like my kind of woman.” She tucked the paper carefully into her book. “I think that’s your replacement, you have a good day Iwaizumi… and if you ever want to talk Psychology I definitely could use the study help.” She waved the books at him and headed out, passing Moniwa as he skipped in and hurried behind the counter.
“Thanks for covering the first part of my shift Iwaizumi, I thought Futakuchi was going to eat Kogane if I didn’t intervene.” He shook his head tiredly and held open the gate that led to the main part of the library. “Go on, I think Oikawa thinks I’m going to seduce you into giving away Seijoh secrets.”
Hajime rolled his eyes, knowing the thought had probably crossed Oikawa’s mind and grabbed his books. He snuck his way around the library, careful not so alert his boyfriend as he laid his books down on the edge of the table. Oikawa was engrossed in a physics book and didn’t even notice until Hajime was sliding his arms around his neck and hugging him from behind.
“You’re a dumbass.” Hajime muttered in his ear, pressing a soft kiss to Oikawa’s forehead. “You were totally jealous.”
“You are gorgeous, of course I’m jealous when a pretty girl comes up to you.” He huffed, looking away but Hajime could see his lips twitching up as Hajime glided soft kisses down his neck. “Stop it, I’m mad at you.”
“No you’re not.” Hajime laughed, quiet and rough, the way he knew made Oikawa shiver and glow with pride knowing he was the only one who got to hear it like that. Oikawa hummed for a second then leaned back until his head was resting on Hajime’s chest and he could smile at him. A real smile, the kind that made Hajime’s heart skip a beat and his brain work ten thousand miles a minute thinking about their futures together.
“No, I’m not. How could I be? You’re perfect, and you quite literally asked me out… doesn’t mean I don’t worry.” He admitted softly and Hajime kissed him. A gentle, loving brush of lips as he reached over and pulled the other chair closer and sat in it. Hajime took Tooru’s hands and tangled their fingers together, pressing a kiss to each knuckle.
“Oikawa Tooru.” He said softly, looking up at him. He thought about what Hana said, about looking at Tooru like he was the sky and he tried to channel that. It wasn’t hard, Tooru was his best friend, his partner, his love and every glance felt like falling in love all over again.
“Y-yes?” Tooru’s cheeks glowed red and Hajime loved it, loved being the one to put that there. Loved that he could take Tooru from his snow-white skin to a cherry tomato and tease him and Tooru would never move from his arms.
“I love you.” He said simply, watching Tooru groan and lean over to hide his face in Hajime’s shoulder.
“You’re embarrassing! So embarrassing!” Tooru insisted, squeezing Hajime’s hands and sighing softly. Hajime just shrugged, letting Tooru hide in his shoulder and humming softly.
“I love you still.” He said, lips twitching when Tooru whined again.
“I love you too Iwa-chan… even if you are a butt head.”
“Sure, darling,” Hajime felt Tooru shudder and knew he was red again at the nickname. “Let’s study huh? And I’ll make dinner tonight.”
“You spoil me… I’m going to get you back for it, just you wait, I’m going to say I love you first one day and you’re going to be so embarrassed and I’m going to laugh.” Tooru declared, but sat up, keeping on hand in Hajime’s and pushing his books over, settling against him.
Three
Tooru was tired, bone achingly tired. Everything hurt. His head, his feet, gods his knee felt like it would be worthwhile to chew off, and worst of all his ass hurt. Stupid Kuroo and stupid Bokuto knocking him down, they never checked to make sure there wasn’t anything they were knocking someone on. Thank the heavens Aran was there to pull them off, Oikawa was sure he was going to die under their combined weight.
Now he was home and didn’t want to do anything ever again. Ever.
He glanced around, pouting when he saw that Hajime wasn’t home yet. He was probably still at the library, getting in extra hours to cover his half of the rent and still be able to afford unnecessary amounts of Godzilla merchandise. Or as Hajime said “Totally necessary Godzilla merchandise.”
The apartment was homey, comfortable with a nice couch in front of a tv with a table that was more footrest than anything at this point. The shelves around the walls were decorated in pictures of the old team and random merchandise, from Final Fantasy Chocobo statuettes to Hajime’s failed attempt at felting a godzilla that Tooru absolutely refused to let him throw away. It was rather clean, considering both of the boys had a habit of dropping everything on the couch and then losing all of their stuff twenty seconds later when they needed it. There was a small desk off to the side, covered in papers from Hajime’s engineering designs and whatever doodle Tooru decided would annoy him the most. (Despite lacking all artistic ability, given a pencil and a ruler Hajime could actually draw decently, as long as it was only technical designs of course.)
Tooru’s own desk was in his room, and was drowning in textbooks and scattered notes and a single volleyball that he had been using as a pillow the last few nights. Hajime’s room was empty except for a bed that was always made in case of a fight, or more commonly, one of them had to pull an all nighter and didn’t want to keep the other up. Not that it stopped Tooru from just wandering in at four am and laying on his boyfriend for an hour until he had to get up. Sometimes it was just nice to be held for an hour, atleast Tooru thought so.
Tooru looked blankly into the kitchen from the couch and thought he’d rather sleep for the next century before he cooked dinner. He let his volleyball bag fall to the floor, barely making his bookbag land on the couch before he turned and stumbled into his room. The floor was still covered from the pillow fight that Hajime had started that morning and Tooru decided that was good enough.
He collapsed onto the pile of pillows, grumpily kicking at the blankets as they caught on his shoes. He barely managed to make it cover his shoulders before he was passed out, snoring happily onto the pillow nest.
When Tooru woke, he was tucked carefully into his bed and his shoes and clothes had been removed. It took him a moment to realize what was wrong and he gently patted his chest and legs, sighing in relief when he found his boxers still on. It wouldn’t be the first time he stripped naked in his sleep and his clothes always seemed to find themselves in the strangest places, like the microwave. Thankfully, if he was still wearing boxers that meant that Hajime had moved him.
He sat up.
Hajime.
He scrambled out of bed, cursing as pain shot up his knee, it was aching again. He glared down at it and swore that as soon as cybornetics were available he was replacing the thing. It wasn’t as bad as earlier and he could walk on it without major pain, but the residual ache was getting annoying.
Tooru took a breath trying not to be annoyed as he leaned against the doorway opening the door and breathing in the rich scent of food. His mouth watered almost immediately and he groaned, stumbling his way into the kitchen.
Hajime was standing there, stirring slowly and reading a book in the other hand. He glanced over and smiled and Tooru felt like melting into a puddle at his gorgeous boyfriend. His brown eyes were shining with amusement as Hajime looked over at him and put the book on the counter, covering the pan with a lid and making his way over. Tooru leaned into his strong hold as soon he was able too, winding his arms around him.
“It’s my turn to cook dinner.” Tooru sighed, nuzzling his neck and breathing in the smell of sandalwood that came from Hajime’s skin. He loved how he smelled, it was so unfair. Tooru had to spend his days around sweaty nasty people (like Bokuto no matter what Akaashi said, Bokuto needed a shower before hugging anyone) and Hajime smelled like a fancy shop.
“You were tired.” Hajime said, fingers gently stroking through Tooru’s hair and Tooru could imagine if he was a cat he’d be purring up a storm right now. Still, he pulled his head back and frowned at his boyfriend. He couldn’t help the guilt that welled up in his stomach and he swallowed anxiously.
“You’ve made dinner three nights in a row… Seriously, you could have woken me up Haj. I’m sorry, I’ll make dinner tomorrow,” Tooru insisted, grumping when Hajime shook his head.
“Tooru, you nearly cried when I picked you up off the floor. You’re tired and you’ve been pushing yourself extra hard these past couple of weeks. I can let you rest a bit more while the season’s going. Now when final’s come and they give you time off, then you can make it up to me.” Hajime teased him and Tooru kissed his nose, smiling at the sprinkle of pink that spread over his cheeks. Hajime’s lips were spreading into a small smile, tiny and unintended and in Tooru’s opinion, the best smile he was capable of. It was one that Hajime never meant to give but it meant he was so happy and relaxed that it slipped out and Tooru would literally do anything to see it every day.
“Pinky promise?” Tooru hummed and Hajime laughed, kissing him and murmured against his lips.
“Pinky promise.” He finally let go of Tooru, just long enough to lower the heat on the pan and stir it a little. Then he turned and gave Tooru a look that made him a little weak. The curve of a smirk on his lips, eyebrow raised, and a dangerous glint in his eyes that made Tooru sure Hajime knew exactly what he did to him.
“I can think of something that you can do to make it up to me right now though,” Hajime purred and Tooru was about to complain about atleast getting a pillow for his knees when Hajime turned and pressed a button on his phone. Soft music echoed from the phone and Tooru let out a peal of laughter, rolling his eyes.
“What?” Hajime asked, arms crossed. Tooru just shook his head, leaning against the door frame as the laughter shook him. Hajime huffed and glared at him until Tooru held out his hands and made a grabbing motion with them.
“You’re just… gods… you’re just amazing.” Tooru laughed, wrapping his arms around Hajime’s neck and leaning in to press their foreheads together.
“That’s why you’re laughing at me? Because I’m so amazing.” Hajime deadpanned, sliding his own arms around Tooru’s waist.
“Because I get to step on your feet.” Tooru said, teasingly tapping his feet with his own and Hajime snorted, pulling him closer and tilting his head up to kiss him sweetly. Tooru didn’t bother to pull away, kissing back as Hajime swayed them to the music.
“Tooru, you’re the world’s biggest dumbass.” Hajime murmured against his lips, smiling when Tooru squawked in fake offence. “And you’re the love of my life.”
“Ugh.” Tooru groaned, burying his face in his shoulder as Hajime laughed. As many times as he’d been able to embarrass his boyfriend and turn him shy, he would never be bored of it.
“I love you. I love you…. I love you.” Hajime said, spinning them slowly and listening to the ever growing groan. He pecked his cheek and said it again, moving to take his hands and kiss them too, repeating himself as Tooru whined and kissed him to shut him up.
“Stop it, you’re a bully… I love you too.” Tooru said after a minute, pouting cutely and Hajime couldn’t help himself.
“I love you.” He whispered, looking him in the eye and Tooru rolled his eyes, a smile on his lips.
“One of these days, I swear. I’m going to make you a mess, just like you do me.”
“You make me a mess every time you smile. It’s like the world disappears.”
“Who is giving you lessons!” Tooru blurted, whining and collapsing into his chest as Hajime laughed and rubbed his back. “You are too smooth, you’re going to get so smooth you break up with me and marry someone just as smooth… like… like Akaashi! Or Suga-chan! Or or…” He frowned then looked at him, eyes wide.
“You’re going to fall in love with Kai-chan and Kuroo is never going to let me live it down. And I can’t even be made because he’s adorable and sweet and I love Kenma-chan so much?” Tooru gasped, and Hajime wondered if Tooru was purposely being a shit or if he genuinely was concerned that Hajime was going to run off with Nobuyuki Kai. Then he decided he didn’t care.
“Tooru, do you love me?”
“What? Of course I do. Completely in love with you.”
“And you know I love you right.”
“Well yes, right now-”
“Tooru.”
“Yes you love me.”
“You remember what you said when I confessed? I’m going to date you forever. I agreed. I’m not going anywhere idiot. I’m going to love you forever and you’re going to be sick of me by the time we get to the afterlife you’re going to beg me to marry Matsukawa so you can hang out with Hanamaki.” Hajime said seriously, lips twitching when he saw Tooru trying not to laugh at him. Tooru shook his head, then sighed and smiled, leaning in and kissing him long and deep.
“How is it that even when you’re saying something ridiculous like that, you’re still able to make me fall even more in love with you.”
“Duh, I’m your partner. We’re meant to be, like the stars in the sky, fish and water, Daichi and horrible teammates, snow and antarctica.”
“Oh I’m so telling Daichi you said that- Wait does that include me?” He gasped, offended and Hajime kissed his cheek, letting go and moving to the stove to stir the pan. “Oh nice try, get back over here and finish my dance and tell me the truth.”
Hajime just laughed, blowing him a kiss and focusing on the meal.
Four
Hajime considered himself lucky, most of the time. He had a great boyfriend, amazing friends, a nice apartment, a decent job, and he was well on his way to graduating at the school of his choice. Then, Tooru got ahold of alcohol.
Tooru wasn’t the worst alcoholic. He was just… worse.
Tooru had three moods when handling alcohol. Clingy mother, slutty, and marrying Hanamaki. Out of the three, the clingy mother mode was probably the most dangerous. If he didn’t have someone to pay attention to, he would often have to be wrestled from his phone before he called up whoever his thumb hit first and started asking about their dinner.
It wasn’t too bad the few times he’d dialed Bokuto or Ushijima, both who were willing to humor him and discuss a proper meal. Kuroo on the other hand got so much enjoyment out of the panic that Tooru caused when he thought he was without dinner that even Kenma and Yaku had to get involved.
Slutty was just Tooru’s normal mood, ramped up. Hajime really didn’t mind that one, especially when half the time Tooru passed out before anything happened and Hajime could seduce him into going home before they reached the clingy mother mode. Or, if someone else was the designated driver, he got to have fun with his boyfriend.
Marrying Hanamaki was probably the most troublesome. Of course, if you asked Tooru, he’d remind Hajime that he was notorious for drunkenly buying plants and crying through a divorce statement when Tooru took away his credit card. If you asked Hajime, he’d tell Tooru to shut up about that.
Hanamaki and Matsukawa were great friends, and they only harassed Tooru a little bit after any drunken misadventures. However, during the misadventures they were almost as bad as he was and it was in their nature to harass and bully Hajime at any moment. They claimed that it was their duty to protect Tooru as their captain, but Hajime just knew they got off on watching him suffer.
Tooru, on the other hand, absolutely adored his friends and despite the constant bullying of his boyfriend and teammates Tooru considered Hanamaki and Matsukawa to be the best people on earth and refused to bully them. Hanamaki and Matsukawa were well aware of this and abused it.
“Babe, we should get a cat.” Tooru stated one night when they had all gone out to drink, staring at the empty shot glass in his hand.
“I don’t want a cat,” Matsukawa grumbled before Hanamaki laughed and ruffled his hair.
“His other babe, the one he goes home too.” Hanamaki teased Hajime, who just stared him down as he drained the beer in his hands. Hanamaki blinked in surprise before giggling and leaning against his boyfriend.
“Tooru, why do you want a cat?” Hajime finally sighed, waving down the bartender for another beer. Tooru hummed and flopped onto Hanamaki’s shoulder, pouting at Hajime.
“Because. Cats.”
“That’s not an answer.” Hajime frowned at the beer, the fuzz in his head making it a little hard to think. He was pretty sure it wasn’t an answer, he wasn’t completely certain but if he let Tooru know it then he would lose the argument. Which argument that was, he’d already forgotten.
“But babe, I can name her princess and-”
“Who said we’re going to get a girl?” Hajime interjected and Tooru gave him such a look of disbelief Hajime was almost sure he’d sworn or said something insulting.
“The only dicks I’m touching are my own and yours, not a cat’s.” Tooru said dryly, blinking in surprise when Hanamaki and Matsukawa both jerked with laughter, Matsukawa spilling alcohol on his lap. “Iwa-chan why are they laughing?”
“... Dicks.” Hajime said simply, leaning backwards unsteadily as Tooru’s hand smacked at his face.
“Don’t be mean to them, they’re your friends.” He complained and Hajime batted his hand away.
“You said a dick joke! You’re such a brat.”
“I did? Huh…” He pouted at Hajime, reaching over to tug petulantly at his shirt. Gods, he was cute. He was so absolutely adorable and Hajime didn’t know how he’d gotten the cutest damn boy in the world. He couldn’t help it, leaning over and sloppily kissing his forehead.
Tooru turned a brilliantly beautiful shade of pink and giggled, tugging Hajime’s shirt and trying to turn away when Hajime tried to kiss him again.
“No~ I’m trying to make a point Hajime!”
“You’re beautiful.” It slipped out before Hajime could quiet himself and he could hear his friends mocking him to each other. Then Tooru’s eyes met his and he decided he didn’t care. “You’re the most beautiful person in the universe.”
“H-a-j-i-m-e.” Tooru complained, shaking his head. Then he paused and leaned in to kiss him lightly. “You’re distracting me, besides… you’re absolutely stunning… I’m lucky you decided to love me.”
“No I’m-”
“Okay, you two, I love you both but don’t start that again.” Matsukawa interrupted, arm reaching around Hanamaki to gently push Hajime’s face away from Tooru’s. Tooru scowled immediately, crossing his arms and turning to glare at Matsukawa. “Cats, Tooru?”
“Oh! Iwa-chan! We should get a cat! I can name her Princess and hold her and love her and brush her and feed her… and her name will be Princess because she’ll be perfect like me… and a Princess… like me!” Tooru said, obviously proud of himself for that string of thought before he was grabbing Hanamaki’s drink for himself. Hanamaki didn’t mind, only occasionally sipping at Matsukawa’s drink.
Hajime sighed and shook his head, taking a drink of his beer and vaguely wondered why he hadn’t gotten wine like Matsukawa. Then he caught Tooru greedily drinking Hanamaki’s sweet liquor and remembered that Tooru was addicted to any sweet alcohol.
“Tooru, we can’t get a cat.” He finally said when Tooru started to wiggle unhappily in his stool.
“What? Why not? We’re adults, we don’t have to ask my mom.”
“We don’t have anything for a cat, you don’t even know how to clean a litter box.” Hajime said logically, but he knew he was fighting a losing battle when Tooru steeled his gaze.
“I can learn anything I need to, and I can be a perfect owner.” He insisted and Hajime sighed, not particularly against a cat but deciding to get an animal while drunk was a terrible decision.
“You can ask Kindaichi!” Hanamaki said and both Matsukawa and Hajime shouted as they heard the name. It was too late. Tooru perked up immediately, his foggy gaze the clearest it had been since they started drinking. Mother mode activated.
“Kindaichi? I haven’t talked to him in so long, I wonder if he’s doing alright. He was really worried about that history final and of course trying to be a captain, and he’s so cute when he’s all huffy and worried about Kunimi- Haj, Hajime, where’s my phone? Baby, where’s my phone I want to call Kindaichi.” Tooru asked, reaching over to check Hajime’s pockets. Hanamaki grabbed the phone that was on the bar and started to offer it to Tooru before Matsukawa snatched it and shoved it in his pocket before Tooru turned around.
“Oh!” He turned and without even blinking at the rudeness of the action, stuck his hand into Hanamaki’s pocket and pulled out the pink haired man’s phone. “Thanks Makki! I bet Kindaichi really misses us, he always worries too much… He needs a hug, Iwa-chan, you should hug him more… We should all hug him more, and then we can hug Kyoken-chan. Yaha-chan says he doesn’t bite people when they hug him anymore, oh and Shi-chan says he got a new boyfriend and I have to make sure he’s being treated right.”
Hajime leaned to the right and caught Matsukawa’s gaze, mouthing “Shi-chan?” Matsukawa just shrugged. There were three people that could be, and knowing Tooru he could mean all of them.
Hajime licked his lips, watching Tooru chatter as he tapped away at Hanamaki’s phone. He needed to intervene before Tooru started randomly harassing their kohai and terrifying them, but without upsetting Tooru who was emotionally unstable when drunk. He might have been the most badass person Hajime knew while sober, but after a few drinks that went out the window faster than a demon out of hell.
Hajime blinked when Tooru flipped the phone upside down and then turned to quietly lay it on the bar. The three of them watched him curiously as he stared at the device and said seriously.
“I have no idea how Makki’s phone works.” He pressed his lips together looking pouty before his lip quivered. Tooru blinked rapidly, turning to look at Hajime as tears built up on his eyes and panic built in his chest. “Did I lose my phone because Kindaichi doesn’t want to talk to me?”
Hajime had no idea where he got that, but was mentally banning Tooru from anymore of Hanamaki’s drinks. He reached out and took his hand, patting them as his drunken brain tried its best to kickstart itself into thought. Matsukawa, more sober than all of them, had the absolute worst thought as he grabbed Hanamaki’s phone.
“Tooru! Iwaizumi will get you a cat.” The curly haired accountant blurted and Tooru gasped excitedly, his mind too intoxicated to focus on more than one thought at a time.
“I am not getting him a cat, Mattsun, I’m drunk.” Hajime blurted and Tooru’s face crumpled as Hajime realized Matsukawa was trying to help.
“Fine, then I will buy you a cat!” Hanamaki blurted, wrapping both arms around Tooru. The other two looked at Hanamaki in growing apprehension, Hajime mentaly swore he was never going to drink with these two again, as Tooru hugged Hanamaki back and nuzzled his shoulder like he was a cat himself.
“Iwa-Chan, I’m breaking up with you. Me and Makki are going to get married because you’re a butt head.” Tooru declared and Hanamaki blinked numbly before shrugging. Hajime cursed quietly, marrying Hanamaki mode active.
“Can we bring Mattsun too?”
“Yes! We and Mattsun, Iwa-Chan, me and Mattsun and Makki are getting married… You’re not invited! Because… Because…” The words tangled on his tongue and Hajime sighed.
“Because I’m a butthead?”
“Yes!” Tooru reached over and patted his cheek and Hajime glared at Matsukawa who shrugged at the turn of events. “We are… broken up! I love Makki now and forevs… and Mattsun too, I guess.”
Mattsun twisted slightly in his seat at that and wrapped his large arms around both of them, head resting on Hanamaki’s shoulder. Hanamaki giggled and kissed him, only to break away and let out a snort laugh as Tooru planted a kiss on his cheek. Tooru brightened at the laugh and did it again, starting to giggle with him.
Hajime glared harder at Matsukawa who just stuck out his tongue and slid off the stool, holding a hand out to the other two. He gave a flourished bow and both of them dissolved into laughter, teasingly patting his hand and pretending to take it.
“Well now, my darlings, the time has come to head home, may I lead you to the car?” Matsukawa asked and Hajime had to give him props for managing to capture both of their attention at the same time.
Hanamaki nearly fell from his stool as he stood and tried to take Matsukawa’s hand. Matsukawa just stepped forward and held him steady, pressing a kiss to his forehead. Tooru gasped and pointed.
“Hajime, did you steal Matsukawa’s move and use it on me?” Hajime debated informing him that he and Tooru had gotten together first so any moves Matsukawa was using, he had learned from them. Unfortunately, Tooru had already decided he was heart broken and turned away, stumbling off his seat and Matsukawa was quick to catch him before he tripped. Both of them were leaning against Matsukawa’s chest, trying not to sway and even he was starting to be affected by the weight of both of them.
That didn’t stop him from teasingly stick his tongue out at Hajime as he gently guided both of them around to head toward the door. Hajime knew from experience if he didn’t stop them, not only would he have to pick Tooru up from their apartment but also that Tooru would be upset that Hajime didn’t have his back while he was inebriated. Hajime had long since given up the battle of explaining that Tooru was just as safe with those two as he was with Hajime himself. Tooru just got grumpy anytime he didn’t wake up in Hajime’s arms, which was flattering, but annoying when Hajime was too sober to not just follow Matsukawa and crash with them. Not even mentioning that Hajime was already lonely with Tooru gone, he wanted his best friend back to lay on in bed.
So now he had to find a way to get his boyfriend back. Then it hit him, the perfect way to get Tooru back.
“Tooru!” He called, throwing a few bills on the counter and moving after them. He stopped as they exited the doors, Tooru turning to him curiously as he tried to get his phone back from Hanamaki. Matsukawa looked just as curious, if a bit smug that he hadn’t managed to lose his boyfriend to his buddy. Hajime was going to kick him.
“I love you, Princess.” He said, holding his arms open. The effect was almost immediate. Tooru let go of Hanamaki and jumped into Hajime’s arms, giggling when Hajime stumbled slightly before holding him, happily kissing him. His lips tasted like liquor and cherries and he kissed back.
“I love you too Iwa-Chan! Forever and ever and ever and ever.” Tooru declared, letting himself be lowered to the earth and hugging him tightly, happily cocooning his boyfriend. Hajime snorted and stroked his hair, rough fingers sliding through the soft brown curls.
“Thought you loved Hanamaki forevs.” He teased, sticking his tongue out at Matsukawa when the accountant flipped him off. Tooru hummed and nodded but tightened his hold on Hajime.
“I do~ but Hajime is my heart! And my boyfriend and my bestest friend and…” He paused as if considering something before he kissed Hajime again. “And I’ll always be Hajime’s.”
Hajime’s heart melted immediately and he kissed back, waving off Matsukawa’s taxi. They only lived around the corner, and Hajime didn’t mind a little bit longer trip home if he could hold Tooru a while longer.
“Hey Tooru?” He asked when they were close to home and Tooru was cuddled up against his side, half asleep as they waited for the final street sign to turn green. Tooru hummed and blinked blearily up at him.
“If we get all the supplies, we can get a cat.”
“And name her Princess?”
“And name her Princess.” Hajime agreed, leading them home.
And One Aain
Tooru loved to surprise Hajime, but more than anything he enjoyed beating Hajime at his own game. Especially the one Hajime had been playing since he confessed. The one where Hajime did everything in his power to trick Tooru into thinking he was going to be an ass, and then said he loved him and destroyed Tooru’s ability to do anything but think about his stupid boyfriend. Or said he loved him first just so he could point and laugh about his bright red cheeks and Tooru was going destroy him now.
There was only one thing Tooru had left in his arsenal after years of dating, well, okay. There were two, but Hajime probably wouldn’t be able to get off the ground laughing if he caught Tooru in tutu again and Tooru still had flashbacks to getting stuck in the damn thing even after nearly twenty years after the incident. So he had one thing left to do, one thing he knew he had to do before Hajime got the jump on him and made him cry.
He planned it for the one event he knew Hajime definitely wouldn’t think about doing anything else, a celebration for the acceptance of Hajime’s designs and employment at the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency.
Hajime had tried for years to finally get this and Tooru couldn’t be more proud of him. They’d put nearly everything else on hold, even moving halfway across the country (and Tooru had the worst four hour commute to his team) so Hajime could apply for an internship and gain the experience he needed to come back to Tokyo and get his dream job. Tooru almost teased him about being more excited to get into space than he was, but decided it could wait a few more days.
Tooru and Hajime were both dressed up nicely. Hajime was in a soft navy blue tuxedo with a small purple lily tucked in his breast pocket and Tooru wound his arm around his waist. Without even thinking about it, he leaned down and nuzzled his cheek until he could whisper in his ear.
“Do you think Nishimoto would notice if I ate all the oysters before he could get to them?” He murmured, a proud smile growing as Hajime pressed his lips firmly together to quiet the laughter building in his chest.
“You’re horrible.” Hajime murmured back, but Tooru could see the light in his eyes. They were bright under the stars, almost glowing amber and Tooru pressed a sloppily dramatic kiss to his cheek. Immediately the gorgeous eyes were narrowed with false annoyance and Tooru yelped as Hajime’s hand dug under his suit jacket and grabbed his boxers, yanking them up into a wedgie.
“Iwa-Chan!” He howled, shoving his boyfriend forward and hiding behind him as he fixed his pants. He kneed Hajime’s ass, glaring at the tongue sticking out at him and focused on fixing his mint green jacket.
“What, idiotkawa?” He purred innocently and Tooru rolled his eyes, kicking out at him again until Hajime grabbed his arm and yanked him too close to kick. He reached out and snagged something before his hands were in Tooru’s hair.
“What? Iwa-chan! No, don’t put bugs in my hai-”
“Tooru,” Hajime said, his voice the silky loving way that made Tooru’s knees weak and his stubbornness melt away. “It’s not a bug, you wouldn’t let me buy you a flower on the way in.”
He held up his phone, snapping a photo before Tooru could school his features into a less sappy look. Then he turned the phone around, showing Tooru the soft white petals of a gardenia that now were tucked carefully into Tooru’s brown locks. Hajime pulled the phone back before Tooru could snatch it and delete the compromising evidence of his own weak heart, and promptly saved it as his background erasing the previous picture of Princess splayed out on her back on their pillow.
Tooru almost cooed at how sweet his boyfriend was, but he was on a mission. He wrapped an arm around his waist and tugged him forward, pulling him towards the food table. Hajime went willingly, rolling his eyes at Tooru’s eyes narrowing on the food like a dog’s.
A flash of silver hair made Hajime spin, eyes trying to find them.
“Did that waiter look like Yahaba?” He asked curiously, looking over at Tooru. For a second, panic flared behind brown eyes before it was smothered with a cool neutral look. Tooru shrugged and turned to grab a plate.
“Now now, Iwa-chan, I know you miss our kohai but why would they be here of all places?” Tooru teased and Hajime narrowed his eyes on his boyfriend but this time he could have sworn he saw pink hair and he twisted.
“Was that Hanamaki?” Hajime asked, then glanced over at the muffled answer. Tooru’s cheeks were stuffed with milk bread and he looked genuinely curious. There was a moment where he fought the way his throat didn’t want to swallow, then Tooru coughed and swallowed.
“What baby?” He tilted his head innocently and Hajime decided he probably was seeing things. He knew Yahaba had been taking odd jobs and he might have signed up for this event and didn’t want to appear in front of his senpai, but there was no reason for Hanamaki to be here at all.
“Forget about it.” He shook his head, grabbing his own plate and filling it up. The speeches and ceremony had already ended so now it was just a meet and greet between Hajime’s new coworkers and the ones financing his plans being put into motion. Most of them had been heading home when Hajime had seen them earlier, but the event still seemed well packed and the catering service was bringing out fresh foods.
It wasn’t a bad thing, but Hajime really wasn’t sure when it was going to end and when he could go home. He really just wanted to lay on the couch with his boyfriend and his cat and watch some dumb drama that would leave Tooru gasping in surprise and unable to comment on his boyfriend studying his face.
Speaking of his boyfriend. Tooru was still stuffing his face, somehow managing to look decent and wonderful even after his eighth pastry. His eyes were alight almost unnaturally, dancing over the crowd as if dissecting each one of them. He leaned back, settling against Hajime’s shoulder and leaned up to whisper in his ear, the sugary sweet scent on his breath making Hajime want to ban him from sweets.
“She’s having an affair with the waitress.” Tooru whispered, and Hajime almost smacked him. Then the waitress came by again, a hand gently sliding over the woman’s waist as her husband turned away.
“No.” Hajime gasped and Tooru grinned.
“Oh yeah. And the husband is the one me and you walked in with that dancer, remember in Kyoto?” Tooru purred and Hajime looked away before he gave it away. He did remember the man and how much he’d begged Hajime and Tooru not to tell his wife. Well…
“Oh, this is the best.” Tooru giggled, leaning down to nuzzle at Hajime’s cheek. “I haven’t been surrounded in this much drama since I helped my Dad at his business parties. You have to take me to every event now, babe.”
“Who else am I going to take dumbass?”
“.... Koushi.” Tooru said after a long moment and Hajime had to think it over before finally nodding.
“Yes, okay, if you and Daichi were both working, I would take him with me. But only because you said I couldn’t bring Kai.”
“Because, he. Is. Beautiful. And. a. Good. Person. I can’t compete with that, Iwa-chan. We both know I’m a bitch.” Tooru said dramatically, blinking down at him like he couldn't believe Hajime had forgotten that very important aspect of their relationship. Hajime honestly couldn’t believe that Tooru thought he’d want anyone else.
“You’re a dumbass.”
“Iwa-chan! Stop being mean!” Tooru yelped, tugging petulantly at his jacket as Hajime wrapped his arm around his shoulders and pulled his head down enough to kiss him.
“Never. You’re stuck with me forever, dumbass.” Hajime murmured against his lips, almost breaking into a smile at the happy cheer Tooru let out before stealing another kiss.
“Oh! Iwa-Chan, let’s go sit down.” Tooru said, bumping their hips together and almost losing Hajime’s plate. Hajime turned to snap at him before catching sight of blonde and black hair behind Tooru. Kyoutani?
He was so distracted he didn’t even notice Tooru pulling him along and putting their plates down at a table. Tooru’s hands were poking and prodding him but Hajime didn’t notice, looking around and staring at the suddenly much thinner crowd. He could only recognize two or three people and they were heading to the parking lot, however the catering service was switching out plates with fresh food and they were lighting candles at the long table in the middle of the field.
Something was going on. Knowing Tooru, he might have decided to marry Tobio off against his will again. Hajime almost turned to ask Tooru, but there was another flash of bumblebee hair and he spun, eyes widening as he took in his old team. Their team.
Every single one of them. Matsukawa, Hanamaki, Yuda, Sawauchi, Shido, Watari, Yahaba, Kyoutani, Kindaichi, Kunimi. And they were holding a giant banner that read ‘Turn around, Ace.’
He turned but Tooru was missing. Until he looked down and saw his boyfriend on his knees. His breath caught as he stared down at his best friend, his partner, the love of his life before him.
Tooru gave him a smile, the real kind that set Hajime’s heart on fire and made him want to kiss him senseless. Tooru was opening a velvet box, holding out a ring for him.
“Iwaizumi Hajime. You are the beat in my heart, my best friend, you’ve been my partner since the moment I was born. Every time I wake up with you is like a new promise of a lifetime together, a thousand lifetimes wouldn’t be enough to show you how much I love you. But I do. I love you, Hajime and I want to spend the rest of our lives together showing you. I want to see your smiles, your frowns, I want to soothe your anger and drive your passion, I want to be the one you turn to always. Will you, Iwaizumi Hajime, do me the most amazing honor of marrying me?”
Hajime’s mouth didn’t work and his eyes were blurring with tears as he mumbled uselessly. All he could see were those eyes staring up at him with understanding and so much love. They were completely full of adoration and Hajime couldn’t do anything but cry for a second. He pulled himself together and took a breath.
“Of course… Stand up, idiot.” Hajime managed to push out, waiting until Tooru managed to get the ring on his finger before he was tangling a hand in his hair and pulling him down into a kiss. He kissed him again and again, holding him as close as he could and laughing when he felt Tooru’s own tears of joy hit his face.
“I’m so glad you said yes,” Tooru said, kissing him softly. “Shi-chan said he would beat you up if you said no.”
“No I didn’t!” Watari’s voice called and that was all the warning they had before they were being tackled by the team. Arms were everywhere and Hanamaki and Matsukawa were doing their damndest to kiss both of them. Yuda was openly sobbing into Shido’s arms as he hugged Tooru and Hajime laughed, bright and loud. He didn’t even try to stop as he took in his team.
They had grown up so well, from accountants to vets, they were making their dreams a reality. Yet, here they were, before him at one of the most amazing times of his life. His team and in many ways, his family. Even when they had pulled away, they would always come back together. His family.
He scooped up Kyoutani and Kindaichi, hugging them tightly even as Kindaichi squeaked and Kyoutani patted his arms. There was only a second before Hajime’s arm was being forced away from Kyoutani and Watari was diving in for a hug too, laughing at Hanamaki’s loud insistence that it was his turn.
“Actually! He’s mine!” Tooru said above the din but Matsukawa and Sawauchi both tackled him to rub his hair and coo about the sweet proposal.
“As fun as this is, I’m hungry. Let’s eat.” Yahaba said once he and Kunimi had disentangled themselves from the pile. Kunimi’s gaze was soft and there was a smile on his lips and Hajime considered that a bigger win then Tooru managing to propose before him.
Hajime laughed, rubbing the top of Watari’s head as they started to stand. The team broke apart for a moment, hurrying to the buffet table and moving to sit at the long table. Tooru screamed for Watari to stop and nearly tackled him down before rubbing his head.
“For good luck.” He explained, grinning when Hajime shoved him off the ex-libero.
“You don’t need luck, you’ve got me.” Hajime said, grabbing his jacket and pulling him down into a kiss again.
“And you’re all I need.”
[SASO2017] Haikyuu!! - those days are dead and gone (but we're still here)
Title: those days are dead and gone (but we're still here)
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Pairing: Matsuhana
Summary: For SASO2017 Bonus Round 3.
“Prompt:
La La - The Cab     On Melancholy Hill - Gorillaz     Magic - Olympic Ayres”
Also found here on AO3.
Word count: 1,649
The end comes suddenly for them. One day they are kicking back for another day of volleyball practice and riling up the Grand King (name courtesy of one Karasuno shrimp) and then suddenly the graduation ceremony that marks the end of their short three-year high school life is today. Hanamaki suddenly feels a gaping void in his life where high school, volleyball, and the friends who come with it used to be. It is a lot like having the floor under your feet all the time only to wake up one day, roll out of bed, and realise that it isn't there anymore. He doesn't want to get out of bed today. The void is going to suck him in. "Makki!" Something bounces off his window, startling Hanamaki out of bed anyway and he goes down in a flurry of blankets. He lands with a thump on the floor, which is still there and not gone, and it takes some expert manoeuvring to get him up and to the window. "What?" Hanamaki shouts, punctuating that one word by throwing open his window with as much force as he can muster. Matsukawa blinks back at him, his arm raised in the act of throwing another rock at Hanamaki's window. Then he grins. "You're going to be late to your own graduation!" "That was the plan," Hanamaki mutters under his breath and Matsukawa squints up at him, trying to see what he is saying. "Be right down!" he yells out of the window and Matsukawa drops the rock and gives him a thumbs up. It takes him less than fifteen minutes to shower, change into his school uniform, and bound out of the door with his breakfast half-stuffed in his mouth like some kind of shoujo heroine—or a barbarian, his mom had yelled at him as he passed her on his way out. "Hey," Matsukawa says, half-leaning against his front gate, and it is a good thing he still has his school uniform to protect him from nosy neighbours who might take it upon themselves to report the suspicious-looking person harassing the Hanamakis because that is what he looks like exactly. Tall, dark, brooding, and throwing rocks at the window of the Hanamakis' only son. Tall, dark, and brooding usually looks good on Matsukawa but it is also all the identifying characteristics of a possible stalker and he won't have the school uniform to protect him after today. "Hey," Hanamaki says, shelving that line of thought. Matsukawa falls into step with him as they head down the road. "Deep thoughts?" Hanamaki shrugs while chewing through his makeshift sandwich of bread and pork cutlet. Of course Matsukawa had picked up on that pause. "Just thinking about you heading down the life of crime." "Am I good criminal?" "The best. You've already got the looks down." "Shame. I don't think they offer crime as a major where I'm going." Hanamaki stuffs the rest of his breakfast in his mouth and mutters something incoherent around the soggy bread dangerously close to choking his windpipe, and Matsukawa nods seriously like he gets it even when Hanamaki doesn't even know what he is saying. --- Graduations usually happen on bright, sunny spring days and theirs is no exception. Only that Hanamaki feels like he has swallowed a storm cloud and it is growing inside of him, expanding ominously with every classmate that pulls him in for a photo or when his parents show up for a quick "congratulations" and "we're so proud of you, son". He kind of wants it to end, kind of doesn't want it to end, and he smiles reflexively for every camera aimed his way. He photobombs Oikawa and Iwaizumi's photos, pats Kindaichi on the back when he starts tearing up at the sight of his seniors graduating, and generally gets everywhere and nowhere until the crowd starts thinning out, trickling out of the front gates to wherever. "Hey, the team's going out for lunch," Iwaizumi nudges him as he rounds up the other members of their volleyball club. "Ready your wallet. We're giving the juniors a treat." "Can't we pin this all on Oikawa?" Hanamaki asks. "If you and Matsukawa come up with something, I'm all ears," Iwaizumi tells him, already leaving to grab more juniors. "He wasn't actually saying no," a voice in his ear points out. "He'll split it with Oikawa on their way back anyway," Hanamaki says without turning around. "He's too honest a soul." "Unlike us," Matsukawa says and Hanamaki can feel him hovering just by his shoulder like a second shadow except warm and tangible. "I love the kids with all my heart but my wallet isn't as big as my heart." Hanamaki is weak, so weak, but he finds himself leaning back against Matsukawa just the slightest, turning to look him in the face as he raises an eyebrow and asks, "Got a plan in mind?" Matsukawa raises an eyebrow back and with eyebrows like his, that is a whole lot of expression. "I do." --- They end up at the nearest McDonalds, skipping out on the team lunch despite Iwaizumi's repeated reminders to show up at the gate in ten minutes. Hanamaki hadn't felt up to it anyway and he is somewhat thankful that Matsukawa's "plan in mind" had simply been not to show up. It is probably bad for team morale and Hanamaki feels slightly guilty thinking about the way Kindaichi had cried over their graduation the same way one would mourn a deceased dearly beloved. He'll make it up to them one day, take them out to lunch or dinner or something and drag Matsukawa into splitting the bill with him, but he just needs to be away from all that today. "Are you feeling better?" Matsukawa asks as he picks a fry out of the giant pile of fries between them. "Who me?" Hanamaki asks, frozen in the act of dipping his fry into ketchup, all deer in the headlights when he is trying to go for nonchalant. "I don't see anyone else around that I know so yes, you," Matsukawa says. "For someone so pink, you've been really gloomy today." "Gloomy how?" Hanamaki lets his shoulders drop, tired from holding them up all morning, as he slumps back in his seat. Matsukawa shrugs. "Not the usual you." "Not pink?" "Like thirty percent pink. Maybe less." Matsukawa chomps into his fry without dipping it in any of the four condiments available before him, the heathen, and asks, "What's eating you? Graduation blues?" It is Hanamaki's turn to shrug. "Something like that." He licks the salt off his fingers and reaches for his milkshake, holding it without really making an effort to bring it up to his lips as he tries to shape the storm cloud brewing inside him into a question. "Mattsun," he starts and finds the rest of it along the way, "aren't you sort of, kind of, scared about the future?" "Terrified." "You don't look it," Hanamaki says and then remembers Matsukawa from the morning, tall, dark, and brooding against his front gate, throwing rocks against his window when he could just let himself in like an honorary Hanamaki. His mother would probably feed him too. He's an idiot. "Oh." Matsukawa smiles and it is a small, subtle thing but it is there. "Yeah." He's such an idiot. He isn't the only one graduating today, isn't the only one struggling through scary thoughts of the future, isn't the only one heading irrevocably towards the future. "I just never thought that high school would actually end, you know," Hanamaki admits, tightening his grip on his milkshake as he lets it all spill out of him. "It felt like one of those things that dragged on and on forever and then suddenly it's over and we've got our certs and the teachers never want to see us ever again." "To be fair, the teachers probably didn't want to see us during school either." "Point," Hanamaki says and slumps further down in his seat, dangerously close to sliding right down to the floor. "Volleyball's not going to be the same without you guys. You're probably going to pick it up in university and I'll join the alumni club or something." "I wish we had the chance to play with the guys a bit longer," Matsukawa admits, tapping a fry against the tray distractedly, and the raw honesty in his voice makes Hanamaki's heart clench. "To the Inter High finals, to Nationals and beyond." "I wish we had won against Karasuno." "And Shiratorizawa." "And Inarizaki and Itachiyama and all those other bastards out there," Hanamaki says loudly, fixing his eyes on the ceiling and trying not to mind the way his eyes have started to prickle uncomfortably. "Maybe if we'd gone far enough we wouldn't have to stop." "That'd be nice," Matsukawa says contemplatively and Hanamaki can hear the smile in his voice. "Eternal high school. Think of all the tests, day after day after day." "We'd ace them all if they keep us there long enough." "You? Ace anything but Japanese?" "I'll pass them all," Hanamaki amends, sitting up properly before his butt slides off the edge of the seat. "Moderately well. Good enough for eternal volleyball." The fries won't eat themselves and the milkshake won't taste as good melted so he eats and drinks and fights Matsukawa for the crispier fries as Matsukawa's hand inches forward on the table. "Sounds like a good start," Matsukawa remarks and steals a fry right out of Hanamaki's hand. --- "Wanna go crash the team lunch?" The fries are gone and Matsukawa shows his phone to Hanamaki. "Iwaizumi put the address of the ramen place in the group chat." "Sure. It isn't like we have anything else to do now. Besides, I think Oikawa's still broke from the previous ramen place so we better go rescue Iwaizumi."
Summary:
"Your soulmate is coming?"
Fuck. "Ah...yeah...He'll be here at the opening ceremony. I hope."
"That's nice." Kageyama looks wistful as he stares at his bandaged left wrist. His right hand twitches as if itching to see his numbers, but it stays by his side.
"Hey, don't worry about it. Your soulmates must be watching wherever they are, right?" Kuroo ruffles his hair playfully and Kageyama blushes in embarrassment.
9:08pm, 1200 meters
Tobio: We're boarding our bus now. We'll get to Tokyo around 5am.
Akira: Have a safe trip.
Yuutarou: When does your first game start?
Tobio: Two days from now. We have a day for sightseeing and one for training.
Tobio: Do you want me to bring home anything?
Yuutarou: the Nationals trophy
Tobio: That's already a given
Tobio: ...
Tobio: I really wish you guy could come with me.
Yuutarou: We want to
Yuutarou: But we still have school. I don't think our parents would want us to skip just to head to Tokyo.
Tobio: :(
Akira: Cheer up. The finals is on a weekend, right? We'll be there.
Akira: For now we'll cheer you on from here.
Yuutarou: Oikawa-san is gonna bring his laptop. We can watch the live stream during breaks or after training.
Tobio: Oikawa-san's gonna watch?
Akira: Kuroo-san is participating, isn't he?
Tobio: Ohhhh...
Tobio: That's nice.
Tobio: Thank you.
Tobio: Good night, Akira.
Tobio: <3
Akira has logged out
Tobio has logged out
9:30pm, 1200 meters
Tanaka arrives last, muttering something about his sister and dramatic goodbyes, and they finally make their way to Tokyo.
Kageyama looks out of the window at Karasuno High School with its closed lights and empty hallways. Under normal circumstances, tomorrow would just be another day for weekend training. However, tomorrow they would be miles away in a different city, participating in a tournament that could make a mark in the history of the Karasuno VBC.
"What'cha thinking about Kageyama?" Hinata asks next to him. Despite the darkness of the night, his eyes are still bright, still full of spark and ready for the next challenge.
"Nothing," he answers, but Hinata catches him fiddling with his cellphone.
"They're not coming?" Hinata asks, understanding immediately.
Kageyama sighs, turning away to look out of the window. The bus has exited the school now and is slowly rumbling down the hill. Their teammates are absorbed with talking to each other or trying to sleep. "Our first game is on Monday. They have classes. Of course they can't come."
"Do you want them to?"
Kageyama lowers himself in his seat-he is still unused to someone asking about his feelings-but Hinata's eyes are bright and patient. He'd be lying if he said he doesn't trust him after all they've been through together.
"I miss them," he says, finally putting away his phone. His wrist itches the farther they go. "It hasn't been that long since we got back together again. We promised each other in middle school that we'd go to Nationals together someday. To go there without them...it feels...it's just...it-"
"It doesn't feel right," Hinata finishes for him.
The bus finally arrives at the foot of the hill. It passes by Sakanoshita Store and Ukai-san looks out the window with a faraway look in his eyes.
"Yeah."
Silence passes between them. The bus passes by closed houses, closed shops and cafes, an occasional open store and quiet, empty streets. Everyone is still wide awake, talking in hushed voices. It hasn't quite sink in that they're on their way to Nationals.
"I think they'd go if they can, Kageyama."
"I know."
In a few minutes, they're out of Miyagi and Kageyama feels the distance stretch between him and his soulmates. His wrist burns.
In their world, soulmates are marked with numbers on their wrist corresponding to the physical distance between them.
Kindaichi and Kunimi both lay in bed, watching as one set of their numbers steadily increases and the other one remains the same.
Kageyama watches as the both sets of his numbers rise until he falls asleep, slumped against Hinata.
11:37am, [0m] [365000m]
The Aoba Johsai Men's Volleyball Club had a tradition that every two weeks they'd meet up and hang out outside of volleyball practice. Today they're at a ramen shop they always frequent after games and the owner jovially greets them and ushers them to a long table in the corner. Everyone's being loud and cheerful, the pain of losing semifinals only a memory behind them.
The noise distracts Kindaichi from looking at his numbers as he joins in cheering on the arm wrestling match between Kyoutani and Hanamaki. Next to him sits Kunimi who is frowning down at his wrist. While Kindaichi seems to be able to distract himself, he can't stop thinking about his numbers and worrying about Kageyama. Being a poly bond, all of them have two sets of numbers. While him and Kindaichi have a set saying 0m, Kageyama has both sets showing the enormous distance between them.
Oikawa, who has been unexpectly quiet the whole afternoon, takes a look at both of them, at the upset look on Kunimi's face and forced smile on Kindaichi's. It prompts him to make the announcement.
"I won't be going to school tomorrow."
His voice is loud enough to carry over the entire table. The arm wrestly match abruptly stops, the cheering dies down as the team looks at their captain and Iwaizumi scowls.
"Where the fuck are you going then?" Iwaizumi asks, concern masked under the gruff statement.
"To Tokyo," when he says this, he looks at Kunimi and Kindaichi as if the knew the exact effect his words will have on them.
They're distracted by the arrival of their food. Iwaizumi waits until everyone is tucking in before bumping Oikawa in the shoulder. "I'll cover for you."
"Don't you always do that anyway?" Oikawa smiles, genuine. Iwaizumi snorts and starts eating his ramen. "There's a problem though."
"What's that?"
"If you're covering for me-" Oikawa levels a look at Kunimi and Kindaichi, a knowing look on his face. "-who's gonna cover for  you two?"
It's one of the few moments Kunmi is convinced Oikawa is a psychic.
11:32pm, 365000m
Tooru: Find a way for Tobio-chan to cover up his soulmate marks tomorrow.
Tetsu: ???
Tetsu: Okayyyyy
Tetsu: y tho?
Tooru: just do it
Tooru: And why the fuck are you still awake anyway?
Tooru: jfc go to sleep it's Nationals tomorrow!!!!!
Tetsu: says the guy who gets 2 hrs of sleep on game days
Tetsu: But yeah, ok. Ill sleep in a min.
Tetsu: y do you need me to get kags to cover up his marks?
Tooru: because I'm an awesome senpai
Tetsu: stfu im better
Tooru: prove it
Tetsu: I got lev and shiba to realize why their numbers are always the same
Tooru: Well, I'm driving Yuu-chan and Sleepy-chan all the way to Tokyo to see their bf
Tetsu: Fukunaga and Tora got me a 'World's Okay-est Captain' shirt
Tetsu: Daichi got a '#1 Captain' mug smh
Tooru: wtf i want one
Tooru: I locked Yaha-chan and Kyouken in the supply room until they confessed!
Tetsu: Kenma says I have better hair than you
Tooru: LIES
Tooru: SCREW YOU TETSU-CHAN
Tetsu: get to tokyo and we'll see ;)))
Tooru: GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP ALREADY
Tooru: AND SEE YOU TOMORROW
Tooru has logged out
Tetsu: Love you too~
Tetsu has logged out
8:17am <unknown>
"Kageyama-kun are okay? Why is your wrist bandaged?"
"Kuroo-san says Kenma-san and Akaashi-san do this before games for good luck."
"You do know that's a load of bull—mmph!"
"Shut up, Tsukki."
"Wait, isn't that Tsukishima's line?"
"Sorry Yamaguchi."
"What's with the role reversal?!"
6:00am [0m] [363400m]
"Sleepy-chan, Yuu-chan. Get in."
Kunimi eyes the light blue Cadillac dubiously. "Um..."
"Don't worry! I have my license already. We'll be fine."
"That's not very assuring, Oikawa-san." Kunimi says as he climbs in the back seat with his and Kindaichi's bags. Kindaichi tries to join him but is stopped by Oikawa.
"Go ride shotgun, Yuu-chan."
Kindaichi pales. "Do I have to?"
"Of course." Oikawa steers him to the front seat and all but pushes him in. "That way I don't feel like a Mom chaffeuring her two kids to their first date."
"You'll survive," Kunimi says in consolation, patting his shoulder. Kindaichi gives him a withering look as puts on his seatbelt.
Oikawa slides in the driver's seat, checks all the mirrors and puts on his seatbelt. "I got Kuroo-chan to convince Tobio-chan to cover his marks. That way it will be a surprise."
"Thanks Oikawa-san," Kunimi says and Kindaichi echoes his sentiments. It's not just about the surprise, it's for everything—lying smoothly to their parents about their whereabouts, getting Iwaizumi to cover for them at school, driving them in the first place.
Oikawa understands what they mean and looks fondly at his two juniors. "You're welcome. A captain has to look out for his team, y'know?"
The tender moment lasts for about two seconds until Oikawa shoots out of the driveway and narrowly misses hitting a trash can on their way out.
10:02am, 9500m
Kuroo stares at his numbers. They've been steadily decreasing since morning. A flutter of anticipation washes over him at the thought of seeing Oikawa again. The last time they saw each other had been last summer when Nekoma went to Miyagi for a practice match and he snuck out to see Oikawa for a few minutes.
"Um...Kuroo-san?"
Kageyama is standing in front of him, fidgeting with the bandage on his wrist. "Can I take it off now?"
"No!" he bursts out, starlting both of them. "Not until they get here."
"Not until who gets here?"
Shit. "U-Until Kenma or Akaashi gets here. You can ask them when to take it off. I don't really know. Must be a setter thing." Kuroo laughs nervously, scratching at his cheek with his index finger. Kageyama follows the movement, eyes zeroing in on the numbers on Kuroo's wrist.
"Your soulmate is coming?"
Fuck. "Ah...yeah...He'll be here at the opening ceremony. I hope."
"That's nice." Kageyama looks wistful as he stares at his bandaged left wrist. His right hand twitches as if itching to see his numbers, but it stays by his side.
"Hey, don't worry about it. Your soulmates must be watching wherever they are, right?" Kuroo ruffles his hair playfully and Kageyama blushes in embarassment.
If Kageyama was Oikawa's kouhai way back then, that makes him partially Kuroo's too, right?
10:34am, 4897m
"Shit." Oikawa looks out into the sea of cars before him. They were already inside Tokyo, but the stadium where Nationals was being held was still far away. To top it off, they were stuck in traffic, squeezed between a truck and a minivan and the noise of Tokyo's streets pounding through the windows.
"Are we going to make it?" Kindaichi asks worriedly, scratching at his numbers. They haven't changed for a while now. "The program starts at 11."
"We'll get there," Oikawa promises. His grip around the steering wheel tightens. "We just have to...get in front of this line somehow."
Oikawa glances at Kunimi in the mirror. He is rubbing at his wrist restlessly as if it would make the numbers change faster. To his side, Kindaichi sticks his head out of the window to look at the traffic light up ahead. Oikawa looks down at his own mark. The number marked there is practically mocking him, telling him he's close but it's not enough.
"Kindaichi, get back inside. Kunimi, seatbelt now."
The use of their real names prompt his two juniors to scramble for their seats. Up ahead, the light turns green and the cars start moving forward. When the truck in front of them moves he turns to face both of them, an intense look in his eyes.
"Do not tell Iwa-chan about this," he stresses. They nod furiously.
Oikawa floors it.
10:40am, <427meters>
"What the fuck?!" Kuroo exclaims as he watches the number on his wrist rapidly decrease. "What is he doing?"
"Your soulmate must be excited to see you." Kageyama comments, unknown to him that his numbers are doing the same beneath the bandage. He removes his eyes from Kuroo's decreasing numbers when he catches sight of yellow and white jerseys down the hallway. "Oh, I see Akaashi-san. I'll ask him about the bandage."
"Kageyama wait!"
Hurry the fuck up, Tooru.
10:42am, <157m>
Kindaichi has done suicide laps until he fainted, he went sky diving from a plane on a dare, he experienced a forty feet drop off a roller coaster.
None of that could compare to Oikawa Tooru's driving.
The scenery blurs outside the vehicle as Oikawa weaves through the traffic and goes through the smallest of spaces as if he is simply looking for cracks in a blocker's defense. Kindaichi yelps as they almost crash into an electric pole if not for Oikawa making a sharp turn that almost lifted one side of the car.
Kunimi has his eyes closed in the back seat, trying to ignore all the chaos. Kindaichi itches to hold his hand for comfort but it's currently busy holding on to the safety bar above his head for his dear life.
And if he somehow broke said bar during the ride, he'll apologize to Iwaizumi later.
Assuming Iwaizumi won't be too busy killing Oikawa for this.
10:44am, <unknown>
"A lucky charm for setters?" Akaashi raises a brow, confused.
"Kuroo-san said you and Kenma-san do it before games." Kageyama raises his wrist to reveal the bandage wrapped around it. "When can I remove it?"
Akaashi looks behind Kageyama to where Kuroo is making cross motions with his hands.
"You can take it off now, if you'd like," he says, smile borderline sly.  Kuroo's jaw drops. "I don't know about you, but I don't like hiding my soulmate mark."
"Fucking hell Akaashi!"
10:46am, 110m
Kunimi staggers out of the car, dropping on his knees on the asphalt of the parking lot.
"Oh sweet land, I am never leaving you again," he mutters, pressing his cheek on the ground.
"Now's not the time for a nap," Oikawa says. His hair still artfully styled after the ride. What the hell? He's helping a pale Kindaichi out of the car. "I'm calling Kuroo-chan!"
10:47am, [15m] [15m]
"Huh?"
Kageyama stares at his numbers in disbelief. This morning it was 365200, but now it was only 15?
"Looks like your soulmates are nearby. I'd go find them if I were you. The ceremony starts in a few minutes," Akaashi says before walking back to the clustered Fukurodani players.
Kuroo pulls out his phone at an incoming text.
Tooru: We're here!!! Lobby, near the player's entrance. Hurry!!!
"Sawamura! I need to borrow your setter for minute. Yaku, keep an eye on the team!"
Ignoring their indignant shouts, Kuroo grabs Kageyama by the arm and bolts.
10:49, 3.3528m
Kunimi is someone who values his sleep. Few things hold rapture over him than the bliss of a nap. However, included in those few things are his boyfriends. It's why he let Kindaichi burst through his bedroom door at 5am in the morning. It's why he willingly skipped class just to drive four hours to Tokyo. It's why he's standing here right now.
Kindaichi's heart has just returned to its normal pace after Oikawa's driving from hell, but the sight of Kageyama appearing in the lobby makes it speed up again. A large smile fills his face at the look of surprise and utter happiness on Kageyama's face at the sight of them.
Kageyama stares at them. Is it really-?
He starts running.
He launches himself at Kindaichi who catches him in his arms, laughing as he twirls them around.
"You came! You're here! You're real!" Kageyama says, excitement on his features and his eyes bright as he looks at them, their ruffled hair, their tired eyes and the happy smiles on their faces.
"Of course. There was no way we're missing your first Nationals game." Kindaichi brushes their noses together, earning him a breathless laugh.
"But school--"
"There are two hundred days in a school year." Kunimi says, stepping up and cupping his cheek. "But only one day for our boyfriend's Nationals debut."
"But how--"
"Oikawa-san drove us." Kunimi buries his hear in Kageyama's black uniform jacket. "We had to wake up at dawn to make it on time." He nuzzles against him, letting out a soft yawn.
"Are you still sleepy?" Kageyama asks, running a hand through his hair.
"Worth it. You're always worth it, Tobio."
"Unlike you, Kunimi is not good in sleeping in a moving vehicle. Especially if it's Oikawa-san driving." Oikawa makes an affronted noise a few feet away but it's drowned out by his giggles as Kuroo peppers his face with kisses, arms wrapped around Oikawa's waist.
Kindaichi tries to pull Kunimi off Kageyama. "Come on, if we get inside now you can take a nap before the opening ceremony."
"Wait." Kunimi pulls away but he still has a hand gripping Kageyama's jacket. He pulls him down by the fabric and presses a kiss on his cheek. When Kunimi lets go, there's a smirk on his face. "Go kick some ass."
Kageyama grins, feral, determined and beautiful all at once. "Count on it."
Kindaichi kisses the top of his head. "Show the world what you can do."
"So I'll just show you two then?"
They look at him in confusion.
Kageyama smiles. "You two are my world after all."
Forget Oikawa's driving, it's Kageyama's smile that kills them in the end.
Season 2 Episode 1
A new season, a new hope (to be crushed eventually because we all know how everything ends).
As a Seijoh fan, I know this season is going to be the worst, but also the best. And since this is my favorite season, I will probably have something to say about every episode, so be ready for 25 posts on me crying about Oikawa. I hope you’re ready, because I’m not.
At least he doesn’t appear in this episode, so I won’t be screaming much.
Tumblr media
…Well, I was wrong.
I thought that, after the painful episode 25 of season 1, the kids would be over the trauma and everything would be nice and everyone would be happy again.
I wasn’t expecting the episode to start like this. Opening old wounds right as it begins.
Tumblr media
Whyyyyyyyyyyy.
(The background music kills me slowly.)
At least we open with the same “problem” in season 1 (“a tall, tall wall…”), except this time Hinata has Kageyama by his side and he knows that he might see the view if he’s not alone.
New opening (with its corresponding new ending) <3 I must say I’m in love with the openings and endings in season 2.
Tumblr media
Poor Kageyama. He knows what’s coming.
Tumblr media
He tries. Seriously.
Tumblr media
I LOVE IT WHEN TSUKISHIMA DOES THIS
Tumblr media
My aesthetic
Tumblr media
Bless this guy.
Tumblr media
Red looks good on him.
So, this match took up more or less 4 minutes of the episode but it was really nice to see. It does two things for the entire season:
1- Remind the audience of the players’ weaknesses
2- But show how they have been working on those weaknesses and are slowly improving
Plus, it’s nice to see a match in which they’re not stressed and under pressure. The mood is completely different and I am thankful for this after the end of season 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, wait, Ukai says it only a minute later.
Tumblr media
#PoorAsahi
Ah, yeah, practice matches. I wonder what’s going to happen in this first half of the season.
And then Takeda arrives and says they’re going to Tokyo. Surprise, surprise.
Tumblr media
Kuroo, stop being attractive.
Tumblr media
YAAAAAASSSSSSSS
Tumblr media
So cuuuuuuute
Tumblr media
WELL, I WASN’T EXPECTING THIS
Tumblr media
Tanaka really can’t stand him ahaha
Tumblr media
SUGA SAID THAT
Tumblr media
I’ve probably said this already but I fucking love that saying and I relate so much.
(Also, I love him. Because you probably hadn’t heard it today.)
Tumblr media
I LOVE EVERYTHING HERE OKAY??
BUT ESPECIALLY
ESPECIALLY
SUGA’S FACE
OMFG
Tumblr media
HE’S SO DONE
Tumblr media
I’m completely, absolutely okay. :)
(No, I’m not.)
Tumblr media
I’M DYING OMFG
SUGA PLS
AHAHAHAHAA
I LOVE SUGA SO MUCH
Tumblr media
I’m just going to pretend I’m putting this here because the baby crows are talking about Ushijima going to nationals and all that stuff and they have to defeat everyone but, in fact, I’m just putting this here because ~Oikawa~.
Tumblr media
HE’S SO CONVINCING, HOLY SHIT
IF I HAD DAICHI AS A COACH I WOULD GO RUNNING TOO
Tumblr media
SOMEONE SAVE TAKEDA-SENSEI OMG
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS IS LEGIT THE MOST RELATABLE THING I’VE EVER SEEN
MY TEACHER SELF IS CRYING OMFG THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY ACCURATE
Tumblr media
Oh no, these two are going to run (we all know how this ends all the time).
Tumblr media
THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CHILL
THEY HAVE NO SENSE OF SAVING ENERGY
THEY WON’T STOP SCREAMING
Tumblr media
They’re already past their goal
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just some healthy competition, am I right.
Tumblr media
IDIOTS
Tumblr media
That feel when you mention Ushiwaka and Ushiwaka appears
Tumblr media
KAGEYAMA PLS
Tumblr media
That feel when even Hinata has more common sense.
How has this Kageyama child survived so far?
(Honesty hour: I love love love how Kageyama is this genius at volleyball but otherwise he’s just… a huge dork. In any other show you’d have a genius who is good at everything, but not Kageyama.)
Tumblr media
CHILL
Tumblr media
You messed with the wrong people, Ushiwaka
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PRECIOUS RAY OF SUNSHINE
Tumblr media
KAGEYAMA PLS
Tumblr media
Best scene in Haikyuu. Ever.
(I love how excited Hinata is.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Serve” as in “be devoted to” (here the Spanish translation does it better and I think it kinda loses its meaning in the English translation).
I’m going to link this to episode 25 in season 2 because THIS GIVES A WHOLE NEW MEANING TO “YOU SHOULD HAVE COME TO SHIRATORIZAWA” .
I already knew this but this only confirms it further. Ushijima only wanted Oikawa to be his servant. And nope. Oikawa knew better and avoided playing in a team in which he would be subjected to someone else. And that, my friends, is NOT arrogance. I think Oikawa really values every member of the team. He refuses to play somewhere where he’s only allowed to toss to one person. A team where the rest of the players mean nothing. It makes me so sad that some people don’t see this when Ushijima confronts Oikawa at the end of the season, and I think that, in that moment, Oikawa did a very noble thing. Oikawa deserves so much better and he fucking deserved to win against Ushijima.
Tumblr media
Bless Hinata.
I wanted to wait for this screencap to talk about what it means for Kageyama to be a “servant”. Kageyama really wanted to go to Shiratorizawa, which kinda fits the way he thought before going to Karasuno. He just wanted to have the fastest, strongest spiker to hit his tosses. So, in theory, Kageyama would have succeeded in Shiratorizawa.
And yet, he was too much of a king to become a servant. Hinata knows it well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, I’m glad they actually mention Oikawa, since, as I said earlier, he’s also involved in this thing.
Tumblr media
He has everything to do with this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I’m laughing so much omfg I had forgotten about this “foreshadowing” of You Should Have Come To Shiratorizawa.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What makes me so sad about this is that Ushijima is quite right here. Seijoh was never good enough to beat Shiratorizawa, that’s obvious. As much as Oikawa tried, he never won a single match against Ushijima.
But, while victory is definitely Oikawa’s goal, it can’t be with just any team. Oikawa deeply values his teammates and I think that, in the end, he would put them above victory. That’s pretty much why he chose to play in Seijoh, plus the fact that he just doesn’t share Ushijima’s (and Shiratorizawa’s) views.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will fight you on this, Ushijima. That’s just not true.
I love that Hinata immediately thinks of: Shinji Watari, Kindaichi, and Iwaizumi. Pretty much the players I thought of as well.
Now get ready for one of the most epic scenes in Haikyuu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
KAGEYAMA IS SO PROUD
I’M SCREAMING
EVERYONE IS SCREAMING
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OH YESSSS
(The music playing here is my favorite ever.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I KNEW HE WAS SALTY ABOUT THAT COMMENT
So they leave Shiratorizawa with the determination of winning so they can go to nationals. The typical stuff.
Except that…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WELL, RIP EVERYONE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I LOVE HOW THIS SHOW CAN TURN SOMETHING LIKE THIS INTO THE MOST DRAMATIC SCENE EVER
And that’s it. That’s the end of this first episode.
Bonus:
THAT FEEL WHEN YOU TRY TO SKIP THE ENDING BECAUSE YOU ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME AND ACCIDENTALLY SEE OIKAWA’S EXTREMELY CREEPY FACE
Tumblr media
I SWEAR TO GOD HE LEGIT SCARES ME SOMETIMES
HE COULD BE THE VILLAIN IN A HORROR MOVIE, I KID YOU NOT
