“ I had a bad night.” Well Wilson, we've all had to admit that a time or two, although your outing with those hot tub chicks wasn't exactly a presidential debate. On the other hand, your little game of “Who's On First?” didn't leave us in a national quandary – if that's the right word. Before this Shakespearian tragedy the Dems were whistling past the graveyard (no pun intended). But after Joe Biden crashed and burned in the debate with Donald Trump the epitaphs loomed large and left us ever closer to our first felon president. Those funny bumper stickers, “Let's Put A Felon In The White House,” aren't so humorous anymore. But give it time and the MAGA machine will rewrite history. Stormy who? Speaking of bad nights – poor Stormy. No Wilson, we should not review the porn star's courtroom testimony and her positive identification of... well, you know, his thing. But we digress. As it stands, the election is between an aged statesman and a felon with an enemies payback list – not to mention a radical instruction manual, “Project 2025,” brewed up by the sinister Heritage Foundation. Despite urging from many quarters and plummeting poll numbers Old Joe says he won't go. Shakespeare is known for dramatic endings and you know what Yogi Berra said – and it doesn't rhyme with “fat lady.”

SUPREME COURT TO THE RESCUE

Thank goodness the U.S. Supreme Court has made homelessness illegal. The high court's ruling comes just in time as the country is exploding with some 1 million people living on the streets. Now those scofflaws will have to buy houses or rent condos like everyone else. But wait, there's more. The Supremes ruled 6-3, along ideological lines, to strike down a law banning bump stocks that turn semi-automatic firearms into machine guns in order to kill more people at concerts and grocery stores. The Founders would just love it. Moving right along, the six conservative justices determined that it was OK for South Carolina to gerrymander voting districts to minimize black votes, overturning a lower court ruling. The hits just keep coming. Along idealogical lines, the court ruled that federal agencies have limited power to regulate industry impacts on environment, health care, consumer safety, government benefit programs and guns. Then there's the icing on the cake – Donald Trump is at least partly immune from prosecution for plotting Jan. the 6 insurrection and any crimes he committed from the Oval Office. And by a 6-3 vote the conservative court gave future presidents immunity from all official acts. God Bless America and Richard Nixon.

Post script – That's going to do it for another hazy, lazy summer week here at Smart Bomb where we keep track of DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) so you don't have to. DEI is being rooted out of corporations, agencies and taxpayer-funded schools because it's a communist plot to make everyone equal. And we all know that some people are more equal than others. Utah lawmakers did their part by making DEI programs strictly verboten – particularly at universities where leftists push propaganda that diversity, equity and inclusion are somehow good things when they are so evil. Why should minorities, women, LGBT and other marginalized communities get stuff that white men don't get? And then there's this: Congressional Republicans blame DEI for an uptick of antisemitism at colleges and universities. “I think DEI is a fraud and what we’re seeing now on campuses is proof of that,” said Utah's Burgess Owens, chairman of the House higher education subcommittee. If it seems ironic that the GOP blames DEI for antisemitism then you've been paying too much attention. How else can we undercut affirmative action. You're right Wilson, there's always the Supreme Court and its ongoing efforts to get equal rights for white people.

Well shucks, old Joe Biden is having a time of it. His supporters were hoping for a miracle debate, but those things are in short supply these days. Yes Wilson, he does look like an all-star who stayed one season too long. Huge Turnout of Devotees at Ayodhya Ram Temple Following 'Pran Pratishtha'

The highly anticipated opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has drawn massive crowds a day after the grand consecration ceremony, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by numerous political figures and celebrities.

Prior to the temple’s public opening, a surge of devotees gathered at the site, with crowds assembling as early as 3 am. The gates will be accessible to the public from 7 am to 11:30 am and again from 2 pm to 7 pm.

The ‘pran pratishtha’ rituals unfolded yesterday, featuring PM Modi paying homage to the Ram Lalla idol. Distinguished guests, including Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, graced the ceremony with their presence.

Expressing his sentiments on Twitter, Prime Minister Modi stated, “The extraordinary moment of the consecration of Shri Ram Lalla’s life in Ayodhya Dham is going to leave everyone emotional. It is my great pleasure to be a part of this divine programme. Jai Siya Ram!”

Post the rituals, PM Modi addressed a gathering of approximately 8,000 individuals, comprising seers, Ram Janmabhoomi movement affiliates, and figures from various fields. The Prime Minister also visited Kuber Tila and engaged with workers contributing to the temple’s construction.

While the ceremony was broadcast nationwide, senior BJP leaders like JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah opted for live streaming. However, Opposition leaders chose to abstain from the event, leading to political disagreements between the BJP and the Opposition.

Several BJP-governed states declared the day a holiday, encouraging people to witness the ceremony on TV and partake in local temple festivities. Ayodhya’s atmosphere was further heightened by a devotional “Mangal Dhwani,” featuring 50 traditional musical instruments from across the country.

The construction of the Ram Temple concluded a protracted legal battle, culminating in the Supreme Court’s verdict in November 2019 in favor of the temple. Prime Minister Modi, in a national address, heralded the consecration of Ram Lalla’s idol as the dawn of a new era.

Addressing the nation, PM Modi remarked, “I have come before you as you witness the divine consciousness in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum. There’s so much to say, but there’s a lump in my throat. After unprecedented patience, innumerable sacrifices, and penance, our Lord Ram has arrived. I congratulate the country on this occasion.”

PM Modi called for unity, emphasizing that the temple signifies not just triumph but also humility, underscoring India’s maturity in resolving historical disputes. He urged critics to reconsider their perspectives, highlighting that Ram symbolizes energy, not fire, and is a solution, not a dispute.

“The construction of this temple of Ram Lalla is also a symbol of the Indian society’s peace, patience, and mutual harmony. We can see this has not given birth to a fire, but an energy,” he affirmed in a powerful and emotional post-consecration speech, invoking the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam,’ stating that Ram defines the world as a family.

"28 Months, After Long Fight": Kerala Journalist Siddique Kappan Leaves UP Jail

Siddique Kappan was arrested while on his way to Uttar Pradesh's Hathras to report on the alleged gang rape and death of a 20-year-old Dalit woman, which triggered nationwide outrage.

Lucknow: Siddique Kappan, a journalist from Kerala arrested in Uttar Pradesh more than two years ago while reporting on the alleged rape of a young woman whose death sparked nationwide protests, was released today. He had been in jail for over a month after he got bail in the two cases against him.

"I will continue my fight against draconian laws. They kept me in jail even after I got bail... 28 months after a long fight. I don't know who's benefiting from my being in jail. These two years were very tough, but I was never afraid," he told NDTV after his release from the Lucknow jail.

Mr Kappan was expected to walk out last evening, but he could not be released since the judge of a special court that hears money laundering cases was busy with a bar council election.

He was arrested in October 2020 while on his way to Uttar Pradesh's Hathras to report on the alleged gang rape and death of a 20-year-old Dalit woman, which triggered protests across the country. The police said he was going there to create unrest.

The woman had died at a Delhi hospital a fortnight after she was allegedly gang-raped. She was cremated in the middle of the night in her village by the district administration, sparking accusations of a cover-up and widespread condemnation of the Yogi Adityanath government.

Mr Kappan was accused of sedition and charged under the tough anti-terror law UAPA. In February 2022, the Enforcement Directorate filed a money laundering case against him, accusing him of receiving money from the banned People's Front of India.

In September last year, the Supreme Court granted him bail after observing that no formal charges were filed against him and a document named "Toolkit" recovered by the state police only propagated a call for justice in the rape case.

He got bail in the money laundering case three months later. But his release was held up due to multiple bureaucratic lapses.

The opposition and civil society groups have condemned Mr Kappan's arrest as motivated by the Uttar Pradesh government's efforts to avoid negative coverage over the incident in Hathras and said it was a case of the BJP government trying to muzzle the media.

The police have claimed that the journalist and others arrested with him are members of the banned Popular Front of India and its student wing, the Campus Front of India. Mr Kappan has denied any involvement in terror acts or financing. He said he was on his way to Hathras for journalistic work.

हाईकोर्ट  के फैसले के बाद मु��्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ  के निर्देश में सोमवार देर शाम लोकभावन में हुई बैठक में यह फैसला लिया गया.

लखनऊ. नागरिकता संशोधन कानून (CAA) के खिलाफ राजधानी लखनऊ (Lucknow) में लगे आरोपियों के पोस्टर (Posters) योगी सरकार (Yogi Government) नहीं हटाएगी. गौरतलब है कि हाईकोर्ट ने सीएए के खिलाफ आरोपियों के लगाए गए पोस्टरों के हटाने का निर्देश दिया था. होली के बाद योगी सरकार इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट (Allahabad high Court) के फैसले के खिलाफ सुप्रीम कोर्ट (Supreme Court) जाएगी. हाईकोर्ट के फैसले के बाद मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ के निर्देश में सोमवार देर शाम लोकभावन में हुई बैठक में यह फैसला लिया गया. इस बैठक में अपर मुख्य सचिव गृह अवनीश अवस्थी, पुलिस कमिश्नर सुजीत पांडे और जिलाधिकारी अभिषेक प्रकाश के साथ कई बड़े अधिकारी शामिल रहे. बता दें लखनऊ जिला प्रशासन और पुलिस की तरफ से लखनऊ के 100 चौराहों पर 57 आरोपियों के पोस्टर लगाए गए हैं.

लखनऊ में उपद्रव और तोड़फोड़ करने वाले आरोपियों का पोस्टर लगाए जाने के मामले में इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट से योगी सरकार को तगड़ा झटका लगा. हाईकोर्ट ने राज्य सरकार की दलीलों को खारिज करते हुए लखनऊ के डीएम और पुलिस कमिश्नर को अविलंब पोस्टर और बैनर हटाये जाने का आदेश दिया. कोर्ट ने आरोपियों के पोस्टर लगाए जाने की कार्रवाई को अनावश्यक और निजता के अधिकार का उल्लंघन माना है.

कोर्ट ने याचिका निस्तारित की

इसके साथ ही राज्य सरकार को सख्त हिदायत दी है कि किसी भी आरोपी से सम्बन्धित कोई भी निजी जानकारी कतई सार्वजनिक न की जाये. किसी भी आरोपी के नाम, पते और फोन नम्बर जैसी जानकारी सार्वजनिक न की जाये, जिससे कि उसकी पहचान उजागर हो सके. हाईकोर्ट ने डीएम और पुलिस कमिश्नर को 16 मार्च तक अनुपालन रिपोर्ट रजिस्ट्रार जनरल के समक्ष दाखिल करने का भी आदेश दिया है. चीफ जस्टिस गोविंद माथुर और जस्टिस रमेश सिन्हा की स्पेशल बेंच ने ओपेन कोर्ट में फैसला सुनाने के बाद याचिका निस्तारित कर दी है.

विपक्ष ने कसा तंज

उधर हाईकोर्ट के फैसले के बाद विपक्ष ने भी योगी सरकार पर निशाना साधा, स��ाजवादी पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने लाहा कि पहले पोस्टर लगवाए थे अब उन्हें हटाएगी. उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार अहंकारी फैसले लेना बंद करे. कांग्रेस महासचिव प्रियंका गांधी ने भी हाईकोर्ट के फैसले का स्वागत करते हुए ट्वीट किया और लिखा, ” इलाहाबाद हाईकोर्ट ने आम जनता के अधिकारों का पाठ आज यूपी सरकार को सिखाया. यूपी सरकार को ये कभी नहीं सोचना चाहिए कि कानून उनके हाथ की कठपुतली है.”

Bhagavan’s Deposition on Arunachala - II

In one of his answers Bhagavan stated that verses in the Skanda and Siva Puranas supported his assertion that Arunachala was a manifestation of God in the form of a mountain. After the hearing was over, Bhagavan selected some verses from these two works and passed them on to the court to supplement and support his evidence. Bhagavan entitled this collection of verses Sri Arunachala Linga Pramanya Vakyani, which means, ‘Sentences giving authoritative proof that Sri Arunachala is a lingam.’ The verses he selected are given below.

From the SKANDA MAHAPURANA,

Maheswara Kanda, Part Three,

Arunachala Mahatmyam, First Half:

CHAPTER ONE

Sanaka said [to Brahma]:

O Treasure of Grace! O Foremost of Devas! On earth there are Siva lingams which are divine, which are installed by human beings and siddhas, and which are composed of the [five] elements.

Tell me, which lingam in the landmass that contains India is immaculate, divine, of undefilable glory, self-originated and effulgent?

Brahma replied:

Hear how in ancient days the wonderful and effulgent Siva, who is full of motiveless grace, manifested with the name of Arunadri [one of the names of Arunachala].

Narayana and I were born from Him who transcends the universe.

Since the Skanda Mahapurana and the Siva Mahapurana are two of the eighteen principal Puranas, these verses should have been enough to convince the court that Bhagavan’s assertions about the sanctity of Arunachala were backed up by an authoritative scriptural source. Unfortunately, the issue at stake was not the sanctity of the mountain but the ownership of it.

Property disputes in India tend to be protracted affairs, and this one was no exception. The final judgement was handed down in July 1940, more than six years after the original notification. The two parties seemed to have reached a settlement out of court, the terms of which were incorporated in the court’s decision. The Devasthanam reluctantly accepted that the Government was the sole owner of the hill. In return the Government granted the Devasthanam the right to maintain and repair all the religious property on Arunachala and to enjoy all the income from the sale of the grass that grew there. The Devasthanam was also given the right to collect dead wood from the hill and to graze its cattle there. The Government reserved for itself the right to authorise the construction of any new buildings on the hill.

In the fifty years that have passed since this judgment took effect, Tiruvannamalai has grown enormously. The town now has a population of over 100,000, all living at the foot of the hill, with many more living in outlying villages. As the population increased, nearly all the local forests were felled to meet the ever-increasing demand for timber and firewood. Arunachala was not spared. Nearly all the old trees on the hill were cut long ago, and sporadic reforestation projects in the last few years have failed to repair more than a fraction of the damage. The temple, although constrained by a lack of finances, has attempted to fulfil its obligation to the properties on the hill that it has been appointed to maintain. The other party, the Government, was, until the 1980s, quite successful in preventing new settlements from springing up on the hill and spoiling its sanctity. Unfortunately, neither party has been able to prevent or slow down the progressive environmental degradation of Arunachala’s slopes, nor have they been able to stop the annual fires, started by the local grass-cutters, which consume most of the mountain, destroying large tracts of vegetation and wildlife. The forests of Bhagavan’s youth have long since gone. With the local population still rapidly expanding, it will need a minor miracle to bring them back.

Postscript, February 2015

As you can see from the date, this was written almost twenty-five years ago. The ‘minor miracle’ referred to in the last line did in fact happen. Arunachala now probably has more forest cover than at any time since the 19th century. The local forest department has clamped down on illegal grazing and wood-cutting, and also planted many trees on parts of the hill. An NGO, founded by an English devotee, Govinda, has reforested much of the southern side of the hill. This NGO has also made firebreaks all over the hill to prevent the spread of summer fires, and it has a huge body of volunteers who go up the hill to beat out any fires that break out during the summer months. The wildlife is slowly returning. Some of the trees that are flourishing on the upper slopes of the hill have actually sprouted from ancient roots that stayed alive during the century when fires, wood-cutters and grazers were destroying everything above ground level. If this welcome trend continues, in a few years’ time there will be a mature native forest covering almost all of the hill.

How did we get here?

2020 is shaping-up to be quite a year; we lost Kobe an important figure to sports yes, but more importantly a role model for black fathers and especially fathers to beautiful brown skinned girls. Now we have COVID, deaths, social distancing and possibly (and I shudder at this thought) mandatory vaccines in the near future.   

Many people lack the vitality and life-force energy required to participate in a democracy. This is not by accident. It was designed this way. 

There is a long history of manipulation of the human race at the hands of the 1% of the 1%- this is what I predict will happen on the other side of COVID;

Travel will become more of a nightmare than it already is. More abuse at the hands of underpaid/overworked security personnel and undignified body searches. I worked in aviation for over 10 years- if you still believe that Arab men flew those aircrafts into the Pentagon and World Trade Towers you are ignorant of the concept of protected air space. The planet’s only Superpower had comprehensive protected air space before, during and after the “attack” on America. Military and law enforcement of this great land long adopted the motto of “shoot first, ask questions later” long before Bin Laden was a spec in his father’s testicles. Besides, who spends more on their military and the protection of their own country than the world’s Superpower?

Already, we are subjected to unnecessary liquid restrictions- you can’t even bring a tub of hummus onboard with you...pause for reaction. If you choose to believe that restricting liquids has saved your life, I invite you to watch a lighthearted episode of “Adam Ruins Everything” where they covered ‘security theatre’ designed to provide you, the average citizen, with little more than a false sense of security.  And if you look at what constitutes a ‘potential terrorist’-it’s a pretty broad net covering how you wear your baseball cap all the way to facial hair grooming standards. Seems like legalized stereotyping, unless of course you’re a polished white male in corporate America.

But perhaps in the fight against mandatory vaccines- even the average white male may find himself in the trenches with us.

Will it be vaccines passports or vaccines with hardware implanted in our bodies? Will we eventually replace handheld passports for data stored in a fingerprint, retina or swab sample? Is that where we’re headed to already? Let’s keep things in perspective, shall we? Thousands of people died on September 11th. Millions more have died at the end of a gun- but the policy makers are very selective with what tragedies they will amplify and how they’ll pick and choose (based on their own agenda) when to introduce new bills or change laws. So even though innocent children die every single year in the greatest country on earth- purchased votes by the NRA (formerly the KKK) prevent amendments to the Second Amendment. Ain’t that something? An Amendment that can’t be amended. You’d think it was written by God and not men. Illusions of grandeur coupled with idolizing the forefathers of America is the exact opposite of being Christian, spiritual, a person of faith, etc. The is the same type of fandom associated with pre-adolescent girls and boy bands.   

An inside job designed to illicit fear of a common enemy (and weapons of mass destruction) became justification for us giving away many of our personal freedoms (i.e. fingerprints scans, eye retina scans, mass surveillance by our smart phones, email providers, search engines, CCTV, etc.). Does this sound familiar? It’s happened before and millions were executed as a result. Hitler wanted complete control of his people- unwavering compliance and that’s exactly where we are headed if The Gates Foundation and the WHO have anything to say about it. China is already practicing this type of population control with their face-recognition software and social behavioural grading system that assigns citizens a credit score that impacts your ability to navigate everything in your life from career, to housing to who and how one travel. Is this what we want? Who benefits? Not you, not I. 

There is growing evidence that COVID is a man-made (military controlled) virus. To many this may seem utterly ridiculous. I would invite you to research this information as discovered by numerous holistic doctors (who have been censored on Google but are searchable on Qwant, a reliable search engine free from the prying eyes of Google surveillance. If you’re wondering why the government would allow for something like a manufactured virus to be unleased on it’s on citizens let me help you. It begins with big pharma and ends with decreasing the human population.

As it stands today over 300,000 people have died- not from COVID but from underlying health issues. Like an episode of Black Mirror- doctors and health professionals are threatened if they don’t adhere to naming COVID as the cause of death. It doesn’t take a genius to observe that the overwhelming majority of people that contracted COVID recovered because they did not have underlying health issues. The Italian Parliament recently went viral for stating this. I’ll say it again, the COVID virus does not kill. Ask any self-respecting health professional/scientist that is not on the receiving end of grants issued by big pharma.  Even the CDC has been corrupted, pick-up a copy of Marcia Angell’s book; The Truth About the Drug Companies: How They Deceive Us and What to Do About It. Marcia Angell was the first woman to serve as Editor-In-Chief at The New England Journal of Medicine, the most influential science journal in the world. She’s done her part to warn us of how drug companies collude not for the benefit of the public, but for their own gain. History will show unequivocally that the real tragedy was not COVID- but the mandatory vaccines that have polluted our bodies for years with unsafe levels of heavy metals, formaldehyde, MSG and more to render your well enough to stay alive and on medications until you die. Newer vaccines will also render you sterile. That is the pandemic we’re headed towards.

Big pharma is greater and more powerful than any government on the planet. And what’s more, they’ve purchased almost every single politician there is to be purchased. In medicine, the first rule is ‘Do no harm’. In Aviation the first rule is ‘if we don’t know, we don’t go’. Thousands of people have had their lives permanently changed when their once healthy children were exposed to vaccines that left them autistic, some children have even died. Unless you can prove without a shadow of a doubt that vaccines are not harmful and toxic (which they have not proven) why do we agree to subject perfectly healthy, clean bodies to foreign matter? And no, vaccines did not eradicate polio- you can still catch that shit. The difference is more people have access to clean food and water today than ever before. As more and more countries develop, more of the planet’s population can practice better hygiene. Vaccines have cured nothing. Measles, malaria, hepatitis are still around!

Fun fact: the US government actually owns more patents of the measles virus than anyone else. Something to chew on.

Are we going to roll over and pretend that the supposed benefits of a vaccine for a non-lethal virus outweighs the damage is can have to the nervous system and reproductive functions of millions of people? We’re already dying a slow death with pollution in the air, water, food and soil we’re consuming. A great portion of the population is already unable to conceive naturally- which is your body’s way of telling you your currently too sick to create new life. So, what do we do? We employee fertility specialists to implant us with embryos instead of addressing the foundational causes and habits for our body’s rejection of bringing new life to our sick planet. 

The world’s population is nearing 8 billion- very few people have died during this pandemic relative to deaths associated to lung cancer, breast cancer, heart disease, medical drug overdoses, etc. It’s sad that we lost anyone. I live in Brooklyn, New York so I’m not removed from the collective loss we’re experiencing. Let’s also take a moment to step back and take a deep breath. This was never a reason to make us anxious, depressed and fearful of each other. This is how they separate and then conquer us.  And it’s certainly not a reason to change our way of living and give away more personal freedoms (that were fought and paid for).

I’m calling on citizens of the world. Stand-up! We are many in numbers- they are few. Don’t let them violate you or anyone else in a way that is not humane.

One last interesting fact to research- the United States Supreme Court or Congress (depending on which article you come across) that vaccines are ‘unavoidably unsafe’. And the kicker? If you or a loved one are damaged from a vaccine you can’t sue the vaccine manufacturers. How’s that for democracy?! Look it up for yourselves, but not on Google.

And it wasn’t for this handstand either. _ Apparently picture and handstands are fine but deep discussions about the moral character of the judiciary branch are not. I was asked to leave because I dared to ask whether the actions of the court will be seen as moral and just years down the line. _ Since Supreme Court Justices are elected for life, their moral, ethical and legal views influence and perhaps even codify the character of a generation. They outlive the politicians who appoint them and continue to rule, sometimes for decades. The court has not been without fault. It declared “separate but equal” in the morally bankrupt Plessy v. Ferguson case which essentially made racism the law of the land. The court upheld the internment of Japanese citizens like my grandfather during WWII. It took a generation before new judges were in place who looked at the egregious actions of America’s past and sought to rebalance the laws towards liberty and justice for all. _ It has often been the courts that have staked out the moral high ground, holding an apolitical place in the three branches of government. But now as the appointment of judges becomes polarized like so much of everything in our society, trust is the sovereignty of the judicial branch to uphold the values outlined in the U.S. Constitution is eroded. _ It makes me sad bc I love America and its dream of freedom. I’m a patriot even though I am not always proud of my country’s actions. I nearly cried today when I read the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson. On Samyukt Kisan Morcha's call last night, asking for protests from 10am to 1pm today all over the country to press for four key demands, protests have been organised at DC/DM offices and other locations in many places. Reports have come in from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and other states about these protests. There was also a silent protest march organised at Singhu Border also. Citizens who participated in these protests questioned the impunity and violence with which BJP leaders are operating, and their anti-farmer attitude and behaviour. They demanded immediate dismissal of the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, immediate arrest of the Minister's son and his accomplices, a probe by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court, and also the resignation of Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar. Reports indicate that FIRs have been lodged against Ashish Mishra Teni and 15 others. However, no arrests have been made. SKM has appealed to all citizens to maintain peace and non-violence, as is the norm of the farmers' struggle, and asked protestors not to fall into the trap being laid by BJP to derail the movement by violence and communal politics being brought in.

There were spontaneous protests in response to the unfortunate developments in Lakhimpur Kheri from last night itself when candlelight marches and rallies were taken out in some locations like Ambala, Kurukshetra, Chandigarh and other places. In Puranpur and other locations, highways were jammed by protesting farmers. Thousands of farmers poured into Tikunia today, at the site of the violent incidents, where the bodies of the martyrs were kept, and negotiations held with the administration.

Today, an agreement was reached between SKM leaders along with local protesting farmers and families of the deceased, and the state administration, which paved the way for the final rites to be performed of the martyred farmers, after postmortem is performed. The bodies of the four farmers had been kept in an overnight vigil by hundreds of farmers and their families in Tikunia's college ground. The Government will give 45 lakh rupees each and a government job each to the families of the farmers who were killed yesterday. The injured will be given 10 lakh rupees each. FIR has been registered against Ashish Mishra Teni and 15 others under Sections 302, 120B and other charges, and the government said that it will arrest all the accused within a week. A case has been registered against Minister Ajay Mishra Teni also, under Sections like 120B. The Government has also agreed to get a retired High Court judge to probe the matter. The demand with regard to Ajay Mishra Teni's dismissal from the Union Government is pending, of course.

Eye witness accounts reveal how the murderous attack seems to be pre-planned, facilitated by the UP police. It is reported that Police removed barricades to allow the vehicles of the Minister's son, who himself was driving the Thar vehicle, to mow down protestors indiscriminately, and the farmers retaliated thereafter. The Police protected Ashish Mishra Teni in escaping from the scene, and it is reported that he fired as he escaped. The specific targeting of SKM leader Tajinder Singh Virk was narrated in eye witness accounts.

Reports through the day indicated that the Uttar Pradesh government tried numerous undemocratic ways of preventing various people going to Lakhimpur Kheri, whether it was social activists, or political leaders. Sec.144 was imposed, and internet services were suspended. UP Government went to the extent of disallowing certain people from arriving into, and leaving from particular airports, and had also written to Punjab government, asking that no person from Punjab should be allowed to enter Lakhimpur Kheri. At the time of release of this press note, reports indicate SKM leaders like Gurnam Singh Chaduni and Buta Singh Burjgill were being prevented from reaching Lakhimpur Kheri by the UP Police. In fact, it is reported that Gurnam Singh Chaduni has been arrested in Meerut. The prevention of leaders of the Opposition, including the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and two sitting Chief Ministers (of Punjab and Chattisgarh), and disallowing the landing of a Deputy Chief Minister clearly shows that the UP Government has something to hide, and is protecting the culprits. Such draconian measures are unprecedented and raise numerous valid questions. SKM condemns all these undemocratic measures of Uttar Pradesh BJP government.

Samyukt Kisan Morcha clarifies once again that it has never approached the Supreme Court or any other Court for resolution of the core issues of the farmers' agitation - about the 3 anti-farmer central laws or MSP statutory guarantee. SKM has always believed that the three central laws which reflect the anti-farmer policy directions adopted by the Union Government have to be repealed by the government itself. Towards this, SKM has also written to the President and the Prime Minister asking for dialogue to be resumed and demands to be fulfilled. SKM did not approach the Court even on the constitutionality matter - while it is important that state government's constitutional authority over agriculture has to be restored and strengthened, it is equally important to realise that the issues with the farm laws are not just about constitutionality, or lack thereof. It is about the implications of the farm laws on farmers and the death blow to their fragile livelihoods. While the laws might have been suspended from implementation for now, SKM realises that the Stay can be lifted any day. Therefore, the movement has insisted on a full repeal of the laws. When it came to organising a Kisan Sansad at Jantar Mantar too, SKM did not have to knock on the doors of any court, and fulfilled fully the conditions with which it obtained Delhi Police's permission and cooperation for organising the same. Therefore, there is no question of the farmers' movement entering the Courts and seeking justice, and protesting at the same time. The petitioner in this case has got nothing to do with SKM. On the matter of blocking the highways, it is reported that the Supreme Court has issued notice to 43 leaders. Samyukt Kisan Morcha has always maintained that farmers did not put up any barricades or blockades on the roads. It was the Haryana, UP and Delhi Police which did so. Farmers have in fact kept the roads clear for traffic on both sides at the morcha sites. Public inconvenience if any is being caused by the police which has barricaded the highways. Farmers have also maintained that the agitation can be resolved, if the Union Government does not behave in this egoistic, adamant and unjustifiable manner. The resolution is clearly in the hands of the Modi Government which has not been able to give any convincing evidence as to why it will not repeal the anti-farmer laws, or why it will not enact a legislation for guaranteeing remunerative MSP for all produce and farmers.

Reports indicate that Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi criticised opposition political parties sharply in an interview, alleging that the opposition parties are indulging in political deceit and moral dishonesty when they oppose the farm laws. He has reportedly said that parties who promised certain reforms in their election promises and even their manifestos, have taken a u-turn later on and did not have the boldness to carry through their promises. Samyukt Kisan Morcha would like to remind the Prime Minister that these so-called "reforms" are not beneficial for farmers, irrespective of which party is proposing these. These "reforms" are meant to facilitate the business of agri-corporations at the expenses of millions of farmers in the country. Farmers did not ask for such reforms. Moreover, SKM would like to remind Mr Modi and BJP that what the farmers are demanding today is very much in line with promises made by the BJP itself, and perspectives supported by Mr Modi and BJP in the past. It was in 2011 when Mr Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and as the Chairperson of a Working Group that he recommended that MSP enforcement should be mandated through statutory provisions, in the "Report of the Working Group on Consumer Affairs" of the Government of India. Further, earlier to this, it was in 2002 that the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government obtained a report of its "High Level Committee on Long Term Grain Policy" that recommended that CACP should go strictly on the basis of C2 cost of production. The Committee also recommended that MSP should have statutory status. This Committee was asked to set out principles and guidelines for long term grain policy by the then BJP government. It is also well known that Mr Narendra Modi and BJP canvassed for the party's election campaign in 2014 on the MSP plank, promising improvements for farmers. In 2018, the Modi government in fact made a commitment on the floor of the Parliament that MSP will be made a reality for all farmers. None of this materialised. It is high time that BJP looked into its own political dishonesty in making direct promises to farmers and reneging on them. More importantly, it is important that farmers demands be met in the current agitation, since the implications of not doing so are a matter of life and death of millions of anna daatas of the country.

The Champaran-Varanasi Lokneeti Satyagraha Padayatra that started in Champaran on Gandhi Jayanti, is on its third day of journey. & Our New National Anti-abortion Game

Here in the family values state, it's nice to know our congressmen are standing up for religious freedom, which means, of course, that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people can't have the same rights as others. Our beloved and sacrosanct Republican congressmen Rob Bishop, John Curtis and Chris Stewart voted against evil legislation, called the Equity Act, that would prohibit discrimination against LGBT people in housing, financing, education and the work place. Only mean, old Democrat Ben McAdams voted in favor of the civil rights measure. Many religious people, including the big wigs at the Mormon Church, came out strongly against the legislation because... well, you know why. Fortunately, Chris Stewart was on hand to explain why LGBT people can't have equal rights: “Yes, of course we should treat each other with fairness and with dignity,” he said. But “people of faith, who are also good people, deserve to have the right to express their sincerely held religious beliefs without compulsion from the federal government...” Dam faggots and weirdos. Remember, the Republican Party is the party of Lincoln — and he never said queers should have equal rights.

OK, lookit, the Trump administration would never raise a ruckus with Iran just to take our minds off the Mueller investigation. Of course not. Taunting the Iranians with a little saber-rattling is a matter of national security. Just ask John Bolton, our warm and fuzzy national security advisor. Here's the thing: Since we've done so well in Afghanistan and Iraq, maybe it's time to bomb Iran. Everybody knows those ayatollah guys are bad news. Like Trump said, it's time for a little regime change. So, what to do? We've already pulled out of the multilateral nuclear agreement we struck with Iran along with the Europeans. And we've already called a boycott of Iranian oil exports. What's left? Ah, that's it, we'll send a carrier battle group to the Arabian Sea and scare the bejesus out of them. Then, the ayatollahs will begin preparing their defense mechanisms and our intelligence network will detect their aggression and we'll have to neutralize the threat. Remember when our Commander-In-Chief called Kim Jung Un “Rocket Man” and promised to blow North Korea to kingdom come? Well, as Trump said in his State of the Union address: “I saved us from a world war.” OK, so here's the game plan: create a crisis, then back off and declare victory. But remember what Yogi Berra said: “You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you're going, because you might not get there.”

The All New Anti-abortion Game

It's time to play that exciting new socio-political game, Our Abortion Law Is More Draconian Than Yours. It's a game that tests the Shakespearean skills of white, male Republican legislators from state to state. One red state passes a law that says no abortions after a heartbeat is perceived. Another Republican-dominated legislature says doctors will go to prison for 99 years. Another holds that 12-year-old girls who are raped by their uncles must give birth — but can't have food stamps. And yet another proclaims that a zygote is a person with First Amendment rights. And Second Amendment rights, too — don't forget the guns. The anti-abortion movement is spreading like a fever. Right to lifers are selling T shirts on Amazon that say things like, “Quit Killing Embryos” and “Sperm Are People, Too.” The excitement is palpable. Which laws will make it to the federal court of appeals? And which one will get all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court? The grand prize? Overturning Roe v. Wade and the end to women's reproductive rights. As Yogi Berra once said: “The future ain't what it used to be.”

Young people who show an interest in socialism don't understand how lucky they are to be living in a capitalist society. So said Utah Gov. Gary Herbert at the 13th annual Utah Economic Summit. “Socialism doesn't lead to shared prosperity,” the guv explained. That's right, young people just don't understand the free-market system, where all the wealth goes to the top 1 percent. Just because household spending power has remained flat since 1980, is no reason to whine. Sure, education and medical expenses have skyrocketed and for many housing is just too expensive. But that can easily be overcome if they'd just get off their duffs. “They worry that free market capitalism is failing them and that it's a win-lose system,” Herbert surmised. Man, this guy is practically clairvoyant. Since 1980 the top 1 percent has been gaining wealth at such a high rate that it has skewed data to reflect a healthy economy. As the keynote speaker, Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, said, “Everything is great.” Yep, from the rarified atmosphere at the Utah Economic Summit, everything is coming up roses. What are those young people thinking? And where is Yogi Berra when you need him?

Post Script: Pinch yourself — it's true, a Republican has called Attorney General William Barr's misrepresentation of the Mueller report for what it really is: Bullshit. Michigan Congressman Justin Amash said Trump's actions constituted obstruction of justice and are impeachable. WTF. Doesn't he know that telling the truth is anti-Trump. Don't look for his Republican colleagues to back him up. And don't be surprised if we soon see Amash's head on a pike in front of the White House.

Parliament passes Bill restoring States’ right to maintain OBC lists

Parliament on Wednesday passed a constitutional amendment aimed at restoring the rights of the States and the Union Territories to maintain their own list of socially and educationally backward classes (SEBCs), commonly known as Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2021 was passed unanimously by the Rajya Sabha, a day after the Lok Sabha passed it. In a break from its protests on the Pegasus issue and farm laws, the Opposition joined the discussion and supported the Bill. While the Bill received support from across party lines, at least 10 parties, including NDA’s Janata Dal (United), called for a caste-based census and 12 parties demanded the removal of the 50% cap on reservation.

Maratha reservation

On May 5, the Supreme Court held that the Maratha reservation granted by the Maharashtra government was unconstitutional and that the President alone was empowered to identify SEBCs. In his response to the discussion on the Bill, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar said the government understood the concerns over the 50% cap and that it should be revisited as it was decided 30 years ago.

From the Opposition, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi was the first speaker. He said the government was congratulating itself for correcting a mistake it made in 2018, referring to the 102 Constitutional Amendment that said the President, in consultation with the Governor, would notify SEBCs. The select committee had pointed out that the language of the Bill could be open to misinterpretation. This Bill was an empty promise since there was a cap of 50% on reservation and this cap couldn’t be changed till the caste census was done to reveal the actual numbers, he stated

“Why are you running away from a caste census? Your Chief Minister in Bihar, another Chief Minister in Odisha and your woman MP said you are going to do this. Why is the government keeping quiet today” he asked.

Plea for caste census

The Samajwadi Party’s Ramgopal Yadav forcefully argued for a caste census. He said there was a speculation that the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh would delist Yadav, Gujarat and Kurmi from the backward list. The BJP government, he said, was not bringing in the caste census only so that it could amend the backward list as per its wishes. There was need to raise the 50% cap on reservation, he observed.

The RJD’s Manoj K Jha said the speech by BJP’s lead speaker in the Lok Sabha Sanghamitra Maurya was no “Freudian slip”. “Every person who thinks for the welfare of the backward classes will make this demand,” he noted. The entire Bihar Assembly, he stressed, had sought time from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to urge him to bring caste census. “It is essential to know who are the ones who are forced to come to the cities looking for minor jobs? Who are the people who have to lift mud to earn a living.”

The TMC’s Derek O’Brien said the Bill was a result of incompetence of the government. “This government is not in the habit of listening to anyone. When legislation on GST was brought in, the Opposition had warned against the possible problems in its implementation. He added, “376 changes were made in GST!”

Shiv Sena member Sanjay Raut welcomed the Bill, but said it was incomplete, as the issue of 50% cap on reservation was not addressed.

The CPI’s Binoy Viswam said he supported the Bill, but opposed the “government’s politics”.

Former Prime Minister and JD(S) member H.D. Deve Gowda welcomed the Bill. He asked the government to see that reservation for women, which he had moved in his tenure, was provided.

Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge also appreciated the Bill, but said it was unfortunate that the discussion in the House had been less about the Bill and more about “what Modiji did and what Nehruji did”, referring to attacks on the Congress by the treasury benches. “You must remove the 50% cap if you want to implement this. Just add one sentence that the States can give reservation over 50%. That will solve the problems,” he added.

Residents of Majha Barhata, a gram panchayat in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya district, were elated with the Supreme Court’s judgment to construct a Ram temple at the disputed Babri Masjid–Ram Janmabhoomi site in November 2019. But their joy turned into despair in late January 2020, when the office of Anuj Kumar Jha, the district magistrate of Ayodhya, released a notification stating that 85.977 hectares of land at Majha Barhata was being acquired for constructing a statue of Ram. Further, according to residents of the area, in August that year, seven or eight administration officials visited the gram panchayat and told them that more land from Majha Barhata than what was previously delineated in the notification would be needed for constructing the statue. Residents said that based on what the officials told them, it appeared that the statue would effectively subsume four areas in the panchayat locally referred to as Nyoor ka Purva, Nyoor ka Purva Dalit Basti, Dharmu ka Purva and Chhoti Mujhniya. 

Almost one year before the Ayodhya judgement, Ajay Singh Bisht, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had announced the plan to erect a grand statue of Ram. Initially, the state government had selected Meerpur Majha, another village in Ayodhya, for this task but the plan did not materialise—locals reportedly protested against the proposal and a technical audit team of the Ayodhya administration gave the location a negative report. By July 2019, the media reported that the proposed Ram statue would be the tallest in the world, with a height of 251 metres. Bisht, popularly known as Adityanath, envisioned the statue premises to be a tourism hub which should have a “digital museum, interpretation centre, library, parking, food plaza, landscaping based on the theme of Lord Shri Ram.”

The January 2020 notification stated that the selected land, a part of Majha Barhata, was situated between the national highway and an embankment of the irrigation department. It said that this land will be “bought” with “mutual consent.” But residents of Majha Barhata said there was no mutual understanding, only confusion about the matter. They told us that even though the administration officials who visited them in August had said that land beyond the notified 86 hectares would be acquired, they had not been given any document in this regard. The residents said they could not identify the officials, but knew that they came from a “survey department.”

According to Arvind Kumar Yadav, a resident who filed a case against the acquisition in the Allahabad High Court, the move will impact a thousand families. Most of them are extremely poor, from backward-caste groups and work in the agriculture sector. “When a grand temple of Ram is being built now, what is the need for this statue? Is it okay to uproot farmers from their work?” he said. “We will do jal samadhi”—submerge ourselves—“like Ram, but not give our land.”

Majha Barhata is about ten kilometres away from the Babri Masjid–Ram Janmabhoomi site. Everyone we spoke to said that they had been rooting for a Ram temple to be built at the site of the Babri Masjid. Arvind said he was 12 years old when karsevaks, or religious volunteers, had reached Ayodhya in 1991 to dismantle the Babri Masjid. “Our school used to shut down for months at a stretch. We used to go to Ayodhya to shout slogans,” Arvind said. “At that time, thousands of karsevaks lived in our village. They would stop by, and we would arrange refreshments for them. No karsevak would sleep hungry.” Arvind said that when the Supreme Court verdict in the case was announced last November, “Drums and dhols were played. We celebrated with gulaal”—coloured powder—he told us. “But now that the temple is being built, we are being destroyed,” he added. “If we give our house land to this statue, then what will our children do, how will they live?” 

Arvind appears to be leading the fight against the statue now. Shortly after the notification was released, he approached the high court. On 28 January 2020, the Allahabad High Court directed the state government to act in accordance with the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act of 2013, relying on a precedent set by an order passed in a similar matter last year. The July 2019 order had said, “In case no consent is arrived, respondents will take recourse as provided in Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.” The 2013 act states that compensation for land is decided on a host of factors, including market value and how the acquisition would affect the original land owner’s earnings. Based on this, Arvind said, “We should be given a house in exchange of house, land in exchange of land. And the residents who are landless, they should get a job.”

Arvind said that a case had been registered against him and fourteen other villagers for holding a sit-in protest about the matter on 14 February. The first-information report in the case mentioned that 200 others were also present at the protest in violation of rules invoked under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which allows certain administrative officials to pass orders imposing restrictions on the assembly of persons. A second FIR was lodged against Arvind and Avdesh Kumar Singh, another resident, in September. The two were booked under four sections of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, punishment for assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation, assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty. Arvind said the police told him, “We will get the administration to lock you up,” “We will get you killed an encounter.” 

Residents said that they had lived on this land for decades. Arvind told us that his ancestors had taken this land during the British Raj. He said till date, the administration had not resolved other issues that the residents were facing concerning their land. “Our land-record operation has been pending since 1984,” he said. “The Sita Rampur village,” in Basti district, “is next to us—even our border is not demarcated. How will they manage to take the land?”

Multiple people from the Dalit community told us they got the land as a result of the Bhoodan movement of the 1950s, which urged communities and individuals to give some of their lands to the landless. The land distribution that began then carried on over the coming years. Ramjit Gautam, a member of the Chamar community, was among the people who received this land. “We were given the patta”—a land document—“for this land during Indira Gandhi’s time, in 1976. The Modi-Yogi government wants to dismiss this. The administration is believing that ‘These Dalits will not be able to do anything,’” Ramjit said. He told us he thought that the government intended to dislocate them without adequate compensation—this could be possible as they did not originally purchase the land, it was donated to them in the Bhoodan movement. “They want to occupy it, for free. This is an upper-caste government. They are not thinking of us,” he said. “They want to drive away Chamars and Yadavs.”

Residents told us that erecting the statue at Majha Barhata by displacing poor people was unnecessary. Sanjay Kumar Yadav, a resident and a sugarcane farmer, was one such resident. “Now when the temple is being built, there is no justification to install a statue also. It will not be worshipped either. His face will be placed so high that he will not be visible properly,” Sanjay told us. “We are already oppressed,” he said. “There are anyway several issues that people from backward castes and farmers face. Farmers get paid for sugarcane years later.”

Villagers said that the administration had ignored several other locations which appeared to be viable for erecting the statue. Arvind said, “If the administration wants land, it should first take the thousands of acres of non-agricultural land lying with sants and bhagato”—referring to saints and their followers. “If you want land, many matts have more land than us,” he said, referring to monasteries. According to him, the akhadas—ascetic orders—in Ayodhya are also known to own a lot of land. “If that is not enough, we will give our land,” Arvind added. Anara Devi Yadav, a resident, also said, “There is a river embankment nearby. There is an empty piece of land there, they can install the statue there as well.”

Lack of clear communication by the administration appeared to be fuelling residents’ anxieties. Anara said that the administration is not willing to give any clarity about whether the 86 hectares of land which was mentioned in the notification was being acquired or more. “No one from the administration is even talking to us, or telling us anything properly—if they will take our house or land or what,” Anara said. “They don’t talk to us. Even if old people ask them, they scold them and drive them away.” Sanjay reiterated that there was a lot of confusion about the administration’s plan. “Sometimes they say our farmland will be taken, sometimes they say both our land and house with be taken,” he said. “A new notification should be issued saying neither our house nor our land will be taken.”

Anara emphasised that the residents did not have any say in what happened to their land. She told us when the officials came to the village to measure the land, “Hundreds of families were standing here, with folded hands, saying, ‘Do not measure our house.’” Last year, Majha Barhata was made a part of the Ayodhya Nagar Nigam, or municipal corporation. Anara said, “There was no hearing. Our village was made a part of the Nagar Nigam by force.” We emailed a questionnaire about the villagers’ allegations to Jha, the district magistrate of Ayodhya, and Deepak Kumar, the Deputy Inspector General/Senior Superintendent of Police, Ayodhya, but did not receive a response.

Anara said that it was a struggle for her family to live in Majha Barhata. “No drain has been made in our village, no bulb has been installed till date. This government has done nothing for us,” she told us. “Whether foreigners come here for tourism or a temple is built or a mosque is built, what benefit will we get?” she said. “Drowning with our families would be better than this. After that, they can put up this grand statue.” Her despair did not appear to shake her resolve to stay put in Majha Barhata. “I was married into this village, and I will die here,” Anara said.

This Sunday, he will hand over property cards like Aadhaar cards to 1 lakh 32 thousand people living in rural areas. Documents relating to these properties will prove their ownership of the home. No such reform has been seen in the rural areas of the country before.

Land disputes have been raging for so many decades

Land disputes in rural areas of the country have been raging for so many decades. And in the absence of any documents, the settlement of this dispute would not have been possible. Moreover, it was not possible to take a loan by mortgaging the house. But all this is going to change in rural India this time. For the first time, the people of the village are going to get their property documents.

Property cards will be given to 1 lakh 32 thousand people in 63 villages of the country. It has been learned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hand over property documents to 132,000 people in 763 villages of the country on Sunday. These properties have been identified by drones. Later, the property will be identified in the same way in 640,000 villages across the country. The center is moving towards completing this work by 2024.

Trying to create ownership rights

Meanwhile out of the 763 villages where the property card will be issued on Sunday, 221 villages are in Haryana. There are 346 villages in Uttar Pradesh, 2 in Karnataka, 100 in Maharashtra, 44 in Madhya Pradesh and 50 in Uttarakhand. Unfortunately, even after so many years of independence, no attempt has been made to restrict the ownership of the land or to create the right of ownership.

What will happen with the new card?

With the help of this new card, local representatives of the revenue department and representatives of other associate departments will create records of property ownership in the presence of the residents. This arrangement provides for the settlement of disputed property matters. Previously, there was no property rights issue, so any dispute had to go to court. Now it is hoped that the problem will be much removed.
