Also!! Young Griff's entire upbringing is meant to show how he's "one with the people" . . . but it's still a pretty comfortable upbringing. For one, he's surrounded by people he can trust inherently, people who protect him, who adore him. He's taught to fish with a net because it looks good, not because he'll be expected to do so for survival. Meanwhile, Daenerys has lived as one of the common people. In fact, she's been impoverished for most of her life. Just as some examples, she has gone hungry, starved, slept on cobblestones, dwelled in uncertain spaces, relied on the compassion of strangers, been sold, and later, must hunt and fish with her bare hands out of necessity. The list goes on. Even after she becomes queen, she looks back on all of these experiences to inform her judgement, and she continues to look to the plight of her people to find solutions to make their lives better.

like i don't know what he looks like but i have a sure grasp in my head of what he DOESN'T look like.

not to say i HATE seeing those traits in other humanizations for sure, but i'm like in my heart thats not how my boy looks to ME. it's fine if he looks that way to YOU though i won't mind.

When your birthday falls on Inauguration Day every four years sometimes you don't get a very fun new President as a present. At least when George W. Bush was first inaugurated, it was on my 21st birthday, so I was getting good and drunk anyway.

I must admit that when I woke up this morning, I opened my eyes, looked up at the ceiling while lying in bed and immediately said "Goddammit" out loud because I realized I was still alive for what's happening today. I guess I'm going to have to try to live through this with everyone else.

I don't hate joneyrs, but I feel like the hate for Dany would be reduced by 75% without this ship.

And in terms of shipping, I think there's a huge disconnect between the way they're written, and the predictions made by shippers. George is a non-traditional romantic. He doesn't write relationships without conflict or try to smooth over tensions, quite the opposite. He likes aspects that make these relationships resonate in some way in the narrative and shock up the inner universes of these characters. I don't believe that the revelation of Jon's parentage will serve as a way to undo the conflict or bring them closer together, but rather to expand it and generate complex feelings about the situation. George loves drama, why wouldn't he invest in that?

Jon died, the character we met before won't be the same. He was always a pragmatic young man, focused on duty and family. Even when he fell in love for the first time and was at his most vulnerable. He didn't prioritize his relationship with Ygritte. And he is partly responsible for her death, bc he chose duty. Jon is attracted to Val, but he refuses Stannis's offer because he can't go against his father's old gods. The only time he chooses love is with Arya, the most important person in his life and the one he genuinely prioritizes even over his own safety. And I don't think that's going to change because it is something set out in 5 books. Jon doesn't treat romantic relationships as a priority. I assume that Jon will definitely be much more brutal and angry after resurrection. Not like he lacks anger or brutality prior to resurrection. But, I believe he will have a pack behavior and focus on Winterfell, his family, especially "Arya" since he was on a mission to save her. And all the undead seem to develop some kind of obsession with their unfinished business. I don't see an ambitious and angry Jon being so focused on romance, to the point of treating it as a big thing in his life. The "skeleton" of his arc doesn't seem to lead to this imo. And perhaps this is the explanation for the lack of snowstorm foreshadowing in his chapters. I definitely feel they'll have a relationship, though I think he'll mean more to her than she does to him. Jon already has the things Dany craves for. He has a family, and he knows what unconditional love is. Obviously, their dynamics were not designed to be those of equals. And I don't see the problem in admitting that. Jon, like YG, would have to be her consort, You cannot ignore it. The relationship between them is being built to have some kind of conflict and texture. And unfortunately, I think Dany will give more of herself to this relationship than vice versa. And that's why I feel in the end it will lead to separation. Shippers idealize too much, and they forget to look at relationships in asoiaf. Most of them are unbalanced. And it's unrealistic to expect Jon to be Dany's lapdog. He is ambitious, and his loyalty is to his family. I doubt he will be harmful or bad to Dany or even betray her. However, I think some fans of them forget that Asoiaf is not a romance. Bran will be as important against the long night as they are, and it's more interesting to try to balance this relationship with other relationships that are also clearly written as relevant like Dany's found family. It is possible for them to have a meaningful bond and find refuge in each other and be able to share an intense level of intimacy and vulnerability. And yet have some conflicts, different points of view. And that's fine. Considering the logistics and that they will probably only meet in ADOS, I speculate that their relationship will be somewhat rushed. And perhaps a desperate love in times of war, but which that lately leads to separation. What I mean is that they don't have to be each other's ideal partners, the most epic and transformative romance in Westeros, or soulmates. They just have to be Dany and Jon. Allies working together and trying to ensure the survival of loved ones and that is enough. It is possible to expect a realistic, meaningful romance without making it seem as if these characters' lives revolved solely around each other. And it's a disservice to centralize Dany around just ship material.

You've put to words exactly how I feel about jonerys/snowstorm! Yes, all the stuff about Dany can't becoming his equal or consort for her own sake, but it's mostly about how ASoIaF romances and the patterns of relationships plus circumstances GRRM writes for his characters. Thank you, anon!

It reminds me a lot of when people gravely miscaharacterized Louis and Lestat from IWTV in order to blame Claudia for all their and her own travails. Sometimes--a lot of the time--rabid shipping gets in the way of recognizing the text when the pair in means something to the audience/fans and outpaces the meaning presented in-text.

BTW, not a "lapdog", a partner who is not her poltical equal as Daemon was not Rhaenyra's...you could hardly call Daemon Rhaenyra's "lapdog".

Tyrion was also being an ass tbh, he knew Aegon was feeling frustrated due to his lack of independence, so he decided to more or less mock his entire life and the very purpose he had been raised for and topped it off with a "haha gotcha sucker Dany >>>>> you btw" (Aegon values trust a lot and has lived all his life in a bubble not of his choosing). I guess the reaction felt disproportionate considering how mild Aegon had been until then, cue the "he may be a Targaryen after all" quote, but the bar is low anyway, and he didn't throw Tyrion in the water (remember when he was the one to help him back onboard when they'd just met?), sic Duck on him or kick him in the face.

And even after this incident, he still valued T's words and didn't hold his family name against him even though he could have irrationally started hating him. I think this says more about YG than a sour moment which he did not in fact handle like a brute, all things considering.

*in fact I think that the subtle humiliation of the fan favourite is what got the readers riled up 🤷‍♂️

not to discourse (i say as i discourse every day) but one thing i find frustrating in the conversation about young griff is that people tend to paint him as some out of control angry spoiled little lordling who hasn't experienced the ~real hardships~ of others. and that's frustrating just because it's like a) what the fuck does real hardship even mean get the fuck out of my face with that shit but b) oh he's a 16/17 year old with a slight temper? are we pretending like jon, dany, sansa, and arya all haven't lost their tempers and fucked some shit up due to that at some point? bran is out here mindraping hodor and we're pretending like yg getting pissy over a game of cyvase is somehow a sign he will never be a good king??

MEANWHILE half the crew of the shy maid is like "tyrion is fucked he swallowed like a gallon of poisoned water we gotta throw him overboard" and don't throw him overboard very specifically because young griff tells them not too. and then spends the entire next chapter in a bad mood not because he's throwing a tantrum but because he's annoyed he's not allowed to go out and do shit while everyone else risks their lives. that feels like a very rational reason to be a brat idk!!!

In all honesty, when I read the book, I used to love the Starks, but the more i get into it, the more i notice how George reduce some characters for their sake. Especially in Lyanna's case. I mean, everyone could talk about how she was a victim or maybe was compliced to some degree. Whatever it is, I hate how Elia is made a doormat even by the author in the books for her. It makes it so hard to like her. Even Jon because I know George would reduce Young Griff and Dany for him. I really used to love him.

Veryy valid feeling. I can only hope time has made him realize Elia being on board with what Rhaegar did makes no sense at all.

I don't know if he would reduce Dany for Jon, as the show did. He seems to really love her as a character so it doesn't make a lot of sense to me for him to do that to her but I definitely see where you're coming from. YG doesn't stand a chance tho😭.

I also dislike where his narrative choices took Lyanna and what it ended up doing to her; he presented a totally different character from the girl he's trying to push as 'in love with a married prince, ran away with him and wanted to give him a baby'.

I think you have a point, it's easy to start disliking certain characters when the story is trying to push them down your throat. Especially when it's damaging other characters in the process

THE BEATLES BRODIIII!! Semenjak punya twitter aku udah follow official akun The Beatles karena ya ngefans lahhhh. Biasanya postingannya ya apalagi kalo bukan something nostalgic. And then suddenlyyyyy... Lauching lagu terakhir yg belom sempet "jadi", karena John keburu meninggal disusul George. Iya begitu klaimnya, mreka jg launching kemarin short movienya di Youtube sekitar 12 menit abistu baru semalam launching lagunya.. Update sekali infonya ih akutu yaiya kan follow akun beatles wkwk. Lsg dengerin bareng suami ditengah2 lg Netflix-an. Lagunya ttp easy listening khas beatles, cuma kaya bukan old beatles gt lebih modern. Merinding yaa suara John msh adaaa huhu, berkat teknologi jaman skrg jadi bisa gitu yaa. Tapi aku suka, pagi ini udah on repeat 10x huhu knp mengharukan dengerinnya yaaahh, sad and heartwarming at the same time..

Short filmnya yg cuma 12 menit. Waktu mreka ngerjain bertiga tanpa John (saat itu John belom mau gabung, lalu keburu meninggal.

Apakah aku seorang Beatlemania? Duh gatau jg, aku hanya menyukai tp ngga sampe menggilai.

Band legend kaya beatles mah pasti bapak2 kita jg tau, tp bapakku ngga sebegitunya sama beatles. Dulu tuh yg selalu masuk playlist bapak lagu "i'll follow the sun". Ya akupun jd hafal, setelah remaja ke dewasa baru deh tuh ngikutin beatles, lagu yg tenarnya mah udah tau lah dr kecil, smp, sma. Kaya "let it be", "yesterday", "i want to hold your hand", "obladi oblada", "twist and shout". Mulai dewasa, pas kuliah mulai explore aja tuh sama lagunya nya. Bukan hanya lagu2 ciptaan John & Paul (karena mreka berdua paling bnyk nyetak hits di lagu2 beatles). Dengerin jg lagu2nya George kaya "Something" (my favv), "while my guitar gently weeps". Ringgo juga! Paling suka "with little help from my friend", "yellow submarine" dan mreka berdua dikasih kesempatan jg jd lead vocalnya. Pokonya dari tiap album beatles dr thn 60an udah tau lah 4-5 lagu mah, banyak bgt lagunya dan enak2. Aku paling suka "strawberry fields forever", "in my life" dan masih banyak ituuuu pokonya.

Bahkan selain lagunya aku ikuti film2 yg berbau beatles atau cuma soundtracknya gt. Kaya, "i am sam", "nowhere boy", "across the universe", terakhir nonton "yesterday" ini ada di Netflix. Documentarynya jg, terakhir itu Get Back yg tayang di Disney+.

Dulu waktu masih seneng bola dan cheering for Liverpool FC gegara Xabi Alonso klubnya disana, iya ngefans bgt sm Xabi circa 2006 keatas deh hahaha bodor lah. Bermimpi kalo ke Inggris kudu bgt ke Liverpool, mau ke Anfield dan Museum The Beatles wkwkwk. Such a perfect combo, right!

Nah si sobi gigs ku mah beatlemania beneran dia krn bapaknya jg sama, dari mulai koleksian kaset, cd, piringan hitam dahlah the real beatlemania. Suatu wkt bapaknya dinas ke Inggris, sobiku si rajin lebih memilih kuliah drpd ikut bapaknya kan mayan atuh katanya bakalan ke museum the beatles, hih plis deh ngapa sih u!!. Balik2 bapake bawain oleh2 tas beatles dr enggres. "dah ini aja cukup buat gua mah".. Wkwkwk duh bestie! Oiya waktu resepsi kawinannya ada after party "beatles night". Sumpah seru pisan haha. Abis resepsi ngga ada capek2nya kita smua berjogedh dan bernyanyik.. Tepar tepar u ahhh..

Nah jd akupun tak cukup beatlemania utk ngefans. Cuma menyenangi karya2nya sajalah yaaa. Dan kalo ada band kaya G-pluck (band specialis lagu2 beatles) manggung, mau dengan senang hati nontoninnya. Sempet nonton G-pluck di JRL dulu, salah 1 membernya itu, member band Sore.. Lupa aku namanya siapa hihi. Bahkan mreka dress up like beatles sampe pake wig jg hahaha ngakak tp kami enjoy nonton live nya..
