Second time in about 48 hours that I have gone into the search mines to bring out a specific pride flag for my blog only to be met with either long or thoughtless posts about how x flag is the most inferior or y flag is the most superior while shitting on other flag designs. Like, I am all for making as many flags as you want — the more the merrier no monopolies here. I would just like for people to keep in mind:
Which communities (including geographical and cultural!!!) specific flags come from and why they were created.
You do not need to be represented by every single stripe for the flag to be applicable to you.
If a flag is featuring a specific identity there's probably a reason for that, I don't care if it's ugly.
Please cite sources and inspiration! Flags represent communities and usually come from community involvement and influence.
Seriously unless a flag was made purposefully to demean or alienate others it's probably fine. You don't have to use it or prefer it and you can be annoyed with it but it doesn't mean it's the end of the world.
#Apparently the polyam flag was '''''''''“officially'''''''''''' redesigned a year ago and I don't even consider polyamory to be#_inherently_ queer but I don't consider leather to be _inherently_ queer either and like the leather pride flag was like the second ever#pride flag and was used in a Pride parade across the country from where it was designed less than a month after it was revealed.#Anyways it's fine if aromantic or other polyamorous people don't feel like they have infinite love but#a) π is not infinite it is _irrational_ and it's decimal _expression_ is infinite and#b) π is literally just the Greek letter p‚ like the Greek rootword poly πολύς.#If you aren't a Black or brown person from Philadelphia then I don't really think it's your place to reject the Philly Pride flag.#Yes there has previous been a black stripe on a rainbow flag to represent AIDS. Colors can mean multiple things. The spectrum for visible#color for humans is only so broad and we are so good at coming up with meaning and nuance.#People talk about ''Queer is a slur.'' being a TERF talking point but I don't see nearly enough people talking about#''Not all intersex people want to be included in LGBTQIA+.'' as one too. I rarely ever see this coming from intersex people and I have#NEVER seen it on a post actually about intersex rights. It's always a throw-away comment when they're criticizing other queer people.#I'm agender and don't consider myself trans. It's fine if specific intersex people don't consider themselves queer. The I still belongs.#And even if it DIDN'T that would mean the Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride Flag has MORE reason for existing not less.#If intersex people aren't inherently included in the rainbow flag then that means a flag representing the union of queer people and#intersex people has a PURPOSE and isn't redundant.#personal#...I might have used too many tags so that might not show on my blog. I forget if the limit is 14 or 20.#I just wanted to reblog pictures of the πolyamory flag and the 2017 Gilbert Baker nine-stripe rainbow flag and here I am getting annoyed#and irritated.#Ugh this is probably gonna show in search results too because I didn't censor anything.#Well while I'm pissing people off I will give my hot take that the biggest crime of the leather‚ trans‚ and lipstick lesbian pride flags is#all these dang white stripes in the center.#Other hot takes: More people need to take a leaf from the bi flag and vary their stripe widths please.#Also while it can easily be overdone‚ I like the symbols in the corner of the leather ❤‚ bear 🐾‚ and lipstick lesbian 💋 flags.#Also hot take I've posted before: the 8- or 9-stripe rainbow flags and the sunset lesbian flag can be for you even if you're ace and/or#sex repulsed. The flags aren't like... criteria for an identity. Not to bring up something horrible like the US empire but you don't have#to have lived in one of the thirteen colonies for those red and white stripes to still represent you.#I hate that the TERFs use the colors of the suffragette flag in heart emojis 💜🤍💚 and that those colors are so similar to the genderqueer#flag (a coincidence on the part of the creator of the genderqueer flag).

Hello! Happy June! It's Pride and I have another question (5/30)
In the very first ask, I talked about the original Rainbow Pride Flag (designed by Gilbert Baker), but today let's talk about some other ones (sexuality/romantic orientation today, gender tomorrow):
Aromantic: The Aromantic Pride flag consists of 5 horizontal stripes. [Top->Bottom: Green, Light Green (aromanticism/aro-spec), White (non-romantic forms of love), Grey, and Black (the sexuality spectrum)] The flag was designed in 2014 by Cameron Whimsy (cameronwhimsy on tumblr).
Asexuality: The Asexual Pride flag consists of 4 horizontal stripes. [Black (Asexuality), Grey (Grey-Ace + Demisexual), White (Allies<- this has been debated/ talked about being changed), and Purple (Community)] The flag was created by an Asexual Visibility and Education Network user standup in 2010, as part of a community drive to created on.
Bisexuality: The Bisexual Pride flag consists of 1 broad stripe, 1 thin stripe and another broad stripe. [Pink (Sexual attraction to the same sex), Purple (the overlap colour representing sexual attraction to both sexes), and Blue (Sexual attraction to the opposite sex)] The flag was designed by Michael Page and introduced on December 5 1998. There is also a symbol of a blue and pink overlapping triangle that can be used to represent bisexual pride.
Lesbian: There is no one accepted Lesbian Pide flag, however the currently most used one is a 5 striped variation of the 7 striped Orange-Pink lesbian flag. (The 7 striped flag was created by tumblrina Emily Gwen in 2018. [Dark Orange (Gender non-conformity), Orange (independence), Light Orange (Community), White (Unique relationships to womanhood), Pink (Serenity and Peace), Dusty Pink (Love and Sex), and Dark Rose (Femininity)]
Pansexuality: The Pansexual pride flag consists of 3 horizontal stripes. [Pink (Attraction to women), Yellow (Attraction to non-binary genders/other genders), and Blue (Attraction to men)]. This flag was introduced in October 2010, again by another tumblr blig ("Pansexual Pride Flag").
Polyamory: Originally this flag was desing by Jim Evans in 1995, and it consisted of 3 horizontal stripes of Blue, Red, and Black with a gold Pi sign in the middle. However, this ended up being more confusing than anything else, and so a committee came together to vote on a new flag. The new flag was designed by Red Howell in 2022, and it consists of 3 horizonal stripes of Blue, Pink and Purple, with an off-centre White chevron on the left and a Gold Heart in the chevron.
Progress Pride Flag: The Progress Pride Flage evolved from the Philadelphia Pride Flag, and was created by Daniel Quasar (xe/xyr) in 2018. It consists of the traditional pride flag as the background, with a triangluar stripes of white/pink/blue (for thr trans community) and brown (people of colour and their contribution to the movement) and black (previous and a nod to the thousands of individuals were lost to the AIDs crisis. [There is also a variation of this flag which includes a triangle with the Intersex Pride flag addition and this was created by Valentino Vecchietti in 2021] [There was/is a little controversy with the Progress flag as Daniel Quasar did decide to copyright it]
Queer: The Queer Pride flag consists of 9 horizontal stripes. [Black, Light Blue, Blue, Green, White, Yellow, Pink, Dusty Pink, Black](The pink and blue shades represent same-gender attraction, orang and green stand for non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals and the balck and white stripes symbolise the asexual/aroamntic/agender community. It was created in 2015.
And so my question today (and yes it is late, I moved and vastly underestimated how many clothes I own, whoops), if you could design a flag to describe everything that makes you feel proud, what colours do you think would work best? (you can give as much or as little detail as you want, give an actual design or just list colours, or whatever, this is completely open ended and up to you)( i know it would probably take thought for people, so like don't feel pressure to answer instantly or whatever, take however long you need to be satisfied)
Happy Pride 🌈 🎉
i can't help but feel as though a flag top represent /me/ would comprise what my roommate calls the 'indi palette' (<- in reference to my middle name, which is what i go by irl). those colours are a bright green, bright purple, and bright blue. hard to say if they'd really be representative of anything, but . i love that combination so much that i feel as tho it'd be the best way to capture /me/ ... tho i think the design might be more circular stripes than horizontal or vertical ones. like a radiating pattern ? just for funsies

This is going to be long omg hi hi 🌈
I think my flag for myself would have triangles to make up a rectangle ▶️🔽🔼◀️ like this if that makes sense so that all the tips meet in the middle with the colors being purple green yellow and blue with each of the colors matching up with the triangles above and there would be infinity symbols of the other colors over the quadrants to kind of symbolize balance or kind of invoking ying Yang okay I gave up on describing and drew a really crude sketch on my phone look ⬇️ imagine this was filled in and neat. I like that it kind of looks like a kite and the infinity is a symbol that I really treasure besides it kind of being seen as basic. The infinity symbols also are kind of like clips holding the triangles together and I like the idea of the flag being a mismatch of different unique parts that are just barely held together. Just like I’m shaped by distinct areas of interest and parts of my life. I think triangles are strong shapes which I like better than rectangles that most flags are made of and I should probably talk about the symbolism of the colors a little bit but I’ve gone on long enough so here thanks for this question 🌈

ok ive stared at this for a long time and like looked through different colors and their potential meanings and like. it's hard man 😭 thank you for listing out the ones you did btw i only knew about a couple of them, i think flag design in general is really special but also kind of hard and not really for me i kept making weird ones and it's just not pretty. but i think above all else i'd want a flag with colors that can mean acceptance (like . both self-acceptance and just the concept of acceptance in general?), community, maybe some to do with the spectrum of sexuality and romantic attraction and gender kind of like the aro and ace flags. :)

Happy Pride 🌈 🎉
hello!
i think my personal flag would be a rainbow flag with hyper specific colors to it. the red of the barn my grandparents owned, orange of the sunrise on the beach, yellow the shade of one of my childhood rooms, a green from dream and a green from the mlm flag, blue from the first laptop i bought myself, a purple from the ace flag and a purple from another childhood room, pink from cupcakes my grandmother made me for my 5th birthday, black for my cat, and brown for all of the baked goods my dad and grandma made. if i have the time i’ll throw together this flag at some point.
this was such a fun question thank you!

wow thanks for all the pride flag info omg 🏳️‍🌈 i already knew some of that information but a lot of what you said i didn’t fully know!
and AWE stop i think that’s such a fun question lol. i know that online pride flag discourse can get very exhausting very quickly, BUT just for this cute little question, well … i’m bi and asexual/aceflux so … i feel like if i could design a flag to represent how i feel it would probably look something like this i guess? LOL, which i like tbh, i like the colors of my flags 😊

okay this is really hard, because i love the lesbian flag and i do feel like the colors represent my identity but my favorite color combination is basically the aroace flag. If i have to make one for me it's probably be a small change visually on the lesbian flag, colors standing for community, happiness, devotion, love and sex

okay i know this wasn’t really what you were asking but i love the sunset lesbian flag soooo much. its so pretty and i love the colours so much like that flag was the reason i started considering pink and orange to be one of my fav colour combos. its so perfect and i wish i didn’t live with my parents so i could be cringe and have it on everything i own.
so yeah ig it would just be the normal lesbian flag 😭 i think flags with stuff other than just stripes are fun tho. maybe id like purple and like greenish blue.

Happy Pride 🌈 🎉
anon can I just say I ADORE the amount of research and care that goes into every single one of these asks like I love opening my inbox and reading your insight it's so cool to read thank you so much for doing these
as for your question, I've always disliked how muted the combined aroace flag is. While I understand that it has meaning to someone I just never really liked the orange-blue gradient it had :( but as someone whose favorite colors are green and purple I LOVE the separate aro/ace flags so I would think to combine the two at the black stripe on both, maybe add a lighter shade of purple next to the existing one to both balance the green and to mirror the idea of the lighter shade representing the ace spectrum!!

Hello!
[Dark Orange (Gender non-conformity), Orange (independence), Light Orange (Community), White (Unique relationships to womanhood), Pink (Serenity and Peace), Dusty Pink (Love and Sex), and Dark Rose (Femininity)]

first of all! this question is awesome, so thank you <3
I don’t know how well I can explain it, but I’m bi and demi, and after thinking about it, this is what I’ve come up with:
Tumblr media
preferably it would be almost like a gradient, so that the separations between the stripes aren’t so sharp, but yeah! nice soft shades as a kind of metaphor for my demisexuality, and the white and grey apply to that as well🥰
